Maybe it was just a bad day. The service was slow and spotty. Silverware came 5 minutes after food. The chicken was tough and not at all flavored. I would consider the menu to be your typical Mexican restaurant options.

A fun fact about Oxford: since this is a college town, everything here is cheaper except the alcohol. They recently moved locations because they wanted a liquor license and since Oxford has so many licenses, the license had to be tied down to the location - something like that. It's incredibly stupid why they moved, but the new location is really decadent - perhaps the best atmosphere for Mexican food in all of Butler County. They've got murals and Mexican columns, giving it an authentic look. The food here is, as I alluded to, inexpensive. It's cheaper than Mexican food back home in Akron, at least. Cheap does not equal bad here. The food, ever since a Mexican immigrant bought the place a few years ago (as I was told by somebody who worked there), has become substantially better. Hannah P. is right about the place being packed nightly with hungry students, but I respectfully disagree with her on the quality of the food. I ordered chimichangas, and asked the cooks to make it "extra hot". They did so, and it tasted delicious - much better than I would expect Mexican food in a college town to taste. The quality of the food was as good as my favorite Mexican restaurant back home, which really took me by surprise. I am glad I decided to come Uptown to check out Fiesta Charra. This gave me hope that there can actually be decent food options in small college towns such as Oxford.

Good frozen daquiris... and great portions, while we're at it. The service is fast and friendly, though the atmosphere can get quite noisy with all of the college students that come in. Definitely worth the price, and much better than El Burrito Loco.

We went here for a "birthday" dinner (in parenthesis because my wife makes amazing homemade Italian for my real b-day dinner, but this was on my actual birthday so we'll count it). We went in not expecting too much. My in-laws are in TX and when it comes to my wife, you're working against many many years of consuming south-Texas Mexican food. It didn't take me long to hop on that bandwagon, either. That said, Fiesta Charra is good. Not great, but come on! You have to know what you're getting yourself in to when going out for Mexican in Ohio. As one of the other reviews noted, the shrimp here is surprisingly tasty. I had a quesedilla. My wife had bean and cheese enchiladas (I think, anyway - that's what she always gets). We were full and satisfied. Best part - I got one of the giant 46oz margaritas (it WAS my birthday, after all). It was delicious, strong and cost more than either meal! We'll be back.

I love this place absolutely!!! Especially the TXS Fajita ( one fajita is enough for two girls, as lunch) hope you guys would enjoy it!

GREATEST MEXICAN FOOD. Oh man, i miss this place so much. I still crave is and I demand to go back all the time when I'm in Oxford. So incredible.

Great atmosphere, location, and service. Food is delicious! Love to sit with chips and queso.

Just had the worst lunch ever! Used to be our favorite Mexican restaurant in Oxford, but today's lunch and the LONG BLACK HAIR caked in our cheese dip (that we didn't find until the end of the meal!) made our stomachs turn. To make matters worse, both the server and manager were very rude and were incredibly reluctant to take the dip off of our bill. They even tried to say the hair was ours, and neither of us have long black hair! Yuck. I am very grossed out. We will never go back.

A great place. The food is good and plentiful. The servers are attentive and friendly. The prices are very family friendly. Since opening they've expanded to two or three times the size of the original. What more need be said??

I've been to Fiesta Charra a couple of times and the food has always been great with quick service and staff is always friendly! I definitely recommend going if you are in the mood for some good Mexican food.

Fiesta Charra is your average Mexican restaurant. Definitely not authentic. We used to come here a lot for their Margaritas, which are pretty good. The service was hit or miss depending on the day. One of the good things is that your food comes out really fast, and they give you chips and salsa while you wait.

This was my first week back in the office after the most relaxing vacation and with the beach and daquiri in mind I chose Charra as my stop to relax and get a daquiri. I was excited for the pitcher. Do not get the pitcher unless your plan is to be obliterated by the first sip. I couldn't take a drink without holding it in my mouth for ten seconds, contemplating spitting it out and wanting to swallow it so I could get drunk enough to drink it and not care about the 16$ purchase for a bottle of crappy tequila, basically. This is my 4th time being dissatisfied with Charra and I downloaded yelp to finally leave my review. Do not ever order on the phone with charra and expect to have delivery service available and do not expect to get what you ordered!!! The servers are definitely biased towards age and service at Charra and the fact that I am under 25 always implies I am a bad tipper, so why serve me? I was a server for 4 years and am now a manager for a corporation with enough money and a good attitude to deserve your attention and at least a refill of water to wash down the awful taste. One star for being the best of our pitiful Mexican restaurants in Oxford, one star for the food and aesthetics being always clean, and one star for giving me insight to go to get intoxicated after my next break up or failure.

I came here with my son for dinner. He ordered the fajita burrito and I had the enchilada combo with rice and black beans. While waiting for the food, we had the Chios and salsa they give everyone. The chips were warm and the salsa, with the addition if the habanero sauce made it a good start. The burrito and enchiladas were good. The service was prompt and food comes out very quickly. For those that need to split the check, I saw it was not a big deal here. Plus it is cheap For me, it was a 3.5.

Love the steak and cheese burrito. The guacamole is pretty good. Would like to See more avocado in it. Delivery is a huge plus.

People will tell you how cheap the margaritas are. That's beacuse the food sucks.

Okay food, good drinks. Not sure what they're trying to do with the new revamp which completely removed the traces of Mexican culture that were scattered about. The staff is pretty unprofessional. I had a birthday dinner there, and brought a cake. Throughout our dinner, waiters kept coming up and asking for cake. They were so pesky that we just left the restaurant and gave them the cake.

Took 8 people here after graduation this weekend. Great frozen margaritas! The food was pretty tasty and the service was ok. There aren't a lot of options in Oxford, but this was pretty good.

Overrated to be sure IMHO. This place is a cash cow, and a "safe" place for locals, students, and their parents to try "exotic" food. I'm not sure it'd be as popular w/o a liquor license lol. Chips passable, but most of the food is not to my liking and all kind of tastes the same. But like the other Mexican restaurants in the area, it's geared for a midwestern palate. And god bless them for it. But it's not for me and I wouldn't recommend it for any reason. Go to Hamilton and go to the taqueria on Dixie Highway. Make your own margs at home. Salsa isn't that complicated, message me for a recipe...

  • Joshua F.

Salsa is amazing as someone who can not tolerate chubky. Authentic (run by people of the nationality that the food produces nothing more or less) and puts Chipotle to shame!

  • Mackenzie B.

The food was 3.5/5. The chips and salsa were not the best out of all Mexican restaurants. However the margaritas were great and only cost us $1.99 before 9pm on a Tuesday! Good atmosphere, typical Mexican restaurant.

Fantastic spicy, cilantro, onion, garlic, jalapeño and tomato salsa. Servings are generous and yummy. This flavor really reminds me of Southern California Mexican cuisine. Wait staff is friendly and polite. I ordered a la carte-- a side of refried beans, rice, and a crispy beef taco. With the complimentary chips and salsa and a bottled Bohemia beer served in a frosty mug with a salted rim and a lime, I was beyond stuffed! I forgot to ask, but I wonder if they sell their salsa. If you are not a fan of spicy salsa, be sure to ask for a milder option. Next time we are in town, this will definitely be on the list to visit!

Mmmm... Fiesta Charra brings back so many good college memories... including the moment I fell in love with enchiladas! This place is great. As other reviewers have stated, it's not going to live up to Texas or California Mexican food probably, but it is damn good. My husband is a salsa connoisseur and he LOVES the salsa here (as do I!). The service is fast and friendly, and the food is outstanding! I still long for Fiesta Charra all these years later! And for what it's worth... I think it's WAY better than El Burrito Loco!

  • Alyssa F.

Chips and salsa abound- and the chips are really good! I had the taquitos, two chicken and two beef for $8 with guac and sour cream. The chicken ones were better, but they were really good! The menu is extensive and really overwhelming- but the people I was with said that everything is really good.

I stopped in while visiting Oxford and loved the atmosphere! The walls and decor were fantastic! The food was wonderful as well: came out hot, was inexpensive, great variety on the menu, and generous portions. And the leftovers were still good hours later. I think sometimes college towns have the best Mexican restaurants. Free chips and salsa is always a must, and this was no different. Critique: We never had the same server come to the table, different guys getting drinks, taking the order, bringing out the food, and bringing the bill and take out box... if that's the worst thing I can find about a place, that's pretty high praise.

This is easily one of my favorite restaurants in Oxford. I eat here at least once a week because I always feel satisfied and the food is well-priced. My favorite is the grilled chicken nachos on the appetizer menu. The order is large and my boyfriend and I usually split it and still have leftovers. I am also a fan of the arroz con polo, and my boyfriend is always pleased when he orders a spicy cheese enchilada. The chips and salsa are delicious, the waitstaff is friendly, and the food is always quick. They also now have a rewards program that gives you $5 for every $50 you spend.

I was never a fan of this place until recently (El Burrito Loco for life!) but it's only a couple blocks from my apartment so I find myself here more often than not. Super cheap margaritas on Tuesday and Wednesday -- and their margaritas have gotten SO much better than they were one year ago. The food has also improved a ton and it's actually pretty on par with Burrito Loco now. This place gets very busy during the school year, so you might have a little wait during mid-week.

First, Fiesta Charra is no longer located at 19 West High Street in Oxford, OH as Yelp.com indicates. They moved down the street and are now 2x as big as before. Their new address is 25 West High Street, Oxford, OH. Next, my husband and I LOVE this place! This is a family-owned, authentic Mexican restuarant (everyone is either a brother, cousin or uncle to everyone else) and the food is delicious, plentiful and inexpensive. The service is fast and reliable and if there is a problem (rare), it is immediately remedied. We often share dishes because the portiions are so large. We usually spend less than $12 total for a huge dinner. To be frank, we prefer this place when the Miami University students are gone, because when school is in session, this place is completely packed (but we've still never waited longer than 20 minutes for a table) and the noise level is pretty high. But despite this, we still eat here at least 2x/month.

Service is fine. Wildly popular, but tastes like the midwest, not Mexico.

Wow, I can't believe this place has 4 stars! The food isn't bad. It won't make you sick. It's filling. It looks like Mexican food. . . but, it does not taste like Mexican food! The food is best described as mid-western style, mexican-like food product.

I love the food here,, better than the other Mexican restaurant in Oxford which I like too, but I like the food here better. It's inexpensive and the staff is very friendly you get allot for your money here.....

A greta place for good cheap Mexican food. I would say that really the food does not seem particularly authentic to me, but I have always enjoyed it. Lots of vegetarian options as well. The service is quick and friendly. The food is reasonably priced and free chips and salsa. I would recommend this to anyone in Oxford.

Best frozen margaritas in town. Great place to hang out with friends and eat greasy (and cheap) Mexican cuisine. Free wi-fi and bottomless chips & salsa. The only downfall? You walk out smelling like the place. Plan your wardrobe and shower schedule accordingly.

Jim Gaffigan jokes that if you want great Mexican food, go to Indiana. Funny, but maybe it's kind of true, though? I know this is Ohio and not Indiana, but you probably can't tell the difference. And I know you're going to say, "But what about California and New Mexico and (God forbid) Original Mexico?" To that I say, "Pah!" I'm looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food; you know, the kind that is 90% cheese. The kind that come as a numbered combination platter that marry tacos and burritos and quesadillas in the best possible way. The kind that has some actually pretty great shrimp, but you have to wonder where they came from. I have tried Mexican food in many states in many restaurants, and I do not know one that does what this place does as well as it does.

The food is ok, but the margaritas are premixed and weak. The service is sometimes dodgy, but the atmosphere is fantastic. El Burrito Loco is the superior choice at the moment.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
