Yamato Steakhouse of Japan Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

The food was average- scallops were chewy, filet mignon wasnt cooked to order ( medium), noodles did not have enough seasoning/ tasted old. The chef did some alright tricks, but acted nervous, wasnt social. My boyfriends brother didnt even get the chicken he ordered, and they had to cook it for him in the kitchen after we were all done eating. The place was just about empty, except for about 2 other parties sitting with us. Overall, food was okay, service was awkward... Not worth the money in my opinion.

We went to Yamato for anniversary. It was lunch time and not busy at all. We were seated immediately, drink orders taken and quickly delivered. They didn't wait for other people to fill our table before they began our meal presentation. (out was nice not having to wait!) I ordered the lunch scallops hibatchi (double scallops and the hubby ordered the beef tip hibatchi luncheon. We also received a free appetizer for the yelp check in! I was also impressed that they served noodles as well as fried rice with the meal! Our chef was very entertaining and skilled. Typical presentation, but still entertaining. And the best was how tasty the food was! Simply delicious. It's amazing how quickly you get the whole meal when there are only 2 meals being prepared. We enjoyed every part of the meal together rather than item by item. The cost of lunch compared to dinner is quite a savings too and there was plenty to eat. Lunch is the much better deal! Loved the quiet, private, fast meal presentation. Will definitely go back more often!

After living in big cities for most of my life and becoming accustomed to high-end sushi restaurants, my expectations were pretty low, but I was very pleasantly surprised! Personable staff, reasonable prices, and great food! All the ambiance of much more expensive Japanese Steakhouses/Sushi Joints without paying an arm and a leg.

Delicious hibachi.....had the steak and shrimp. They serve it with noodles, fried rice and stir fried veggies. The photo posted by another here is absolutely accurate.... ton of food. We all shared the Jalapeño sushi roll appetizer....don't be scared off. Only has one jalapeño slice on each piece so wasn't too spicy....we all loved it and highly recommend. All ordered hibachi and it's a ton of food....fried rice, noodles with grilled vegetables and filet and shrimp.......VERY GOOD.

We were there to eat for our first time on 11/8/14 at around 7-7:30. The place was almost empty with the exception of the hibatchi tables. We were wanting a hibatchi table but was told it was at least an hour wait if not longer. We opted for a regular table. Our server was nice but didn't know the menu very well or what was included with each meal. It took forever to get our appitizers and a mixed drink. The staff was more interested in singing happy birthday to everyone in the place. I don't think I will be back here anytime in the near future.

I have been to the Yamato on Elida Rd twice now and have nothing but excellent things to say about it. The food is absolutely wonderful, the cooks are 100% entertaining (way better than some other locations like this I have gone to), the price isn't that bad. My kids and I cant wait to go back!

The staff acted like they just opened yesterday and didn't know what was going on. The bocce chef needs to worry more about practicing how to cook things without drying them out then working on his tricks with a spatula. I think Yamato is Japanese for average.

Some coworkers and I stopped in here for dinner one night and chose to go with the hibachi table. It was just the three of us at the table and it probably would have been more fun and entertaining had there been other people with us, but overall, the restaurant was not very busy on this particular weeknight. Our waitress was great and took very good care of us throughout our dinner, even providing recommendations when we asked. We started off with the calamari, which was really tasty, although a bit peppery and could have used a little dipping sauce to go with it. Each of us went with the chicken and filet meal, which came with soup and salad. I passed on the soup, as I'm not a fan of miso soup and the other choice, clear soup, didn't sound that appetizing. One of my coworkers got the clear soup and said it was very peppery. As it turns out, the pepper comment was a reoccurring theme throughout our meal. Our chef did a few standard tricks that I've seen at other hibachi places and in general, I would say he did less than what I usually see. The food itself was good and plentiful, but again, there was clearly a note of pepper in most everything we ate. With regards to dessert, it seems their menu was completely out-of-date as pretty much nothing on the menu is what they offer anymore. Our waitress gave us the new choices and a couple of us went with the lemon raspberry cake while another went with the chocolate dessert. All in all, the desserts were pretty good.

Went here for Valentine's Day with a friend and had a great meal! The Dragon roll is BOMB as is the Hot Lover and the Friend roll. We started with Gyoza, which was pretty good (a tad crunchy but the inside was dope and that's what counts) and edamame. The serving size for the edamame was HUGE! We didn't finish it all. Also, the rolls are a really good size. Like, almost too big. Can't hate that. Everything tasted fresh, and they have a nice variety of sake to choose from, as well as Kirin Ichiban (which any reputable sushi place should have in my novice opinion) and Sapporo. TIP: They almost always have tables open for the dining area, but DO make a reservation if you think you'll come on a crowded day like Valentine's. TIP: There are two Hibachi stations each seating around 12 patrons, snuggily. You can sit at the hibachi station if you aren't ordering a hibachi meal, but it will cost you $5 (which we didn't pay, we just asked to be seated elsewhere since neither one of us was ordering hibachi.) Service is about what you'd expect from Lima, nice, accomodating, but somewhat aloof. Maybe that was just our server though. All in all, I'll certainly be returning! UPDATE: I forgot that they give you soup (miso or another that I forget) and salad (DELICIOUS!) no matter what you order. Still, you'll love the appetizers. kthxbai

Great in theory, but mediocre in execution. I've been to a few hibachi and sushi joints in my time, and this one is pretty average if not slightly below. I am not sure if I am giving this place 3 stars because it's in Lima or because I thought it was that good. Overall, pretty mediocre -- or a work in progress :) I think by far the thing that stood out the most was the service... or lack thereof. I have to say that one member of the waitstaff was particularly awful (luckily she wasn't our server). We were seated and moved -- no big deal, but then this lady realizes we are in her zone and looses it, presumably because she couldn't handle another table. Long story short, another waiter ended up serving us while running around trying to tend to a million other things. He did a good job, but I wouldn't use the word attentive to describe our experience by a long stretch. In his defense, he did apologize and brought us thousand-island salad. The food -- also mediocre. When I order Gyoza I am looking for dumplings that are steamed and then seared a little on each side, for just the right balance of crunch and swishiness. These were deep fried and similar to something I could heat up in the microwave at home. Pass. The warm house sake was subpar and tasted like apple cider vinegar, but should I have expected more? I am no sake expert, so I chuck this one up to experience and learn not to order sake from someone who says they can all be consumed hot or cold. The basil fried rice with chicken was rice with soy sauce and some grilled chicken. Vegetables? How about Basil? it says it in the menu! If you don't believe me, check out the picture. Anyway, if you want rice and chicken this is your dish. The serving size was generous to share as a side for 3 people. The Rolls: We ordered the Orange Dragon Roll and the Kamikaze Maki (see pictures) Both were eh, ok. It would have been nice if the server remembered to bring out the little dishes for soy sauce, but too much sodium is bad for you anyway... The fish seemed fresh and the rolls were well... rolled. Sushi chef seemed like he knew what he was doing. The Kamikaze roll looked like the salmon threw-up its guts on top.. but it tasted pretty good. Over all, I don't think I'll be visiting for the sushi anytime soon, but I might give the hibachi a shot next weekend -- just out of sheer curiosity. If I could immediately address two things, it be the service and for goodness sake add some GARNISH! Although I am sure there are better ways to spend $50 on a dinner for two in Lima.

When our server suggested we order our maki rolls by number instead of name, I had my doubts. Lima hasn't had a great history with sushi. And the massive, sports-bar atmosphere with big-screen TVs and at-table speaker boxes didn't help. But the sushi was amazing. We ordered a snow mountain roll (Shrimp tempura, king crab and mayo), a buckeyes roll (Spicy king crab, mango, avocado topped and seared tuna) and a sweet potato roll. All three were good. The snow mountain was incredible. The total came to $31, which is very reasonable considering the freshness of the seafood and the generous size of the rolls. An extra side of spicy mayo was provided at request with no extra charge. My only worries about Yamato: 1. It's too big. The Japanese restaurant took over what used to be a huge sports bar and restaurant. There just aren't enough patrons to fill the place up, so it looks desolate. 2. Lima doesn't seem too keen on sushi. I'm an addict and will keep coming until I'm turned away, but half the people I know in town refuse to even try sushi. I guess I'll have to change that.

Yes, I did it, I risked it all and had sushi in the Midwest, in the middle of Ohio of all places. I also had the filet mignon and shrimp hibachi grill with fried rice. Believe it or not, the sushi was better than the hibachi. Both were a bit plain, which sounds better than bland.

I was never a sushi fan, Orr so I believed, until this place came to Lima. How was I to know that there was a hidden sushi lover inside me. I don't have many other places to compare this to, but the staff is friendly (and sometimes slow) and the food has yet to disappoint. I am soooo happy Lima is getting a bit of variety in their food. If you are looking for a fun place to take the family to eat, the habachi tables are always entertaining for the kids.

Stopped here for a friend's birthday. It wasn't very busy for a friday night but that didn't seem to matter to the bar staff. Five friends and I waited at the bar waiting to be seated while the staff walked right by us several times while not asking if we wanted anything. Once we finally flagged one down, the bartender was very nice and made some solid sake recommendations. Dinner was pretty good - you get rice, noodles, vegetables, meat. Pretty standard for hibachi restaurants. The waitress seemed pissed off the entire night. Apparently she had been wronged by her previous table filled with high school kids on the way to a dance when it came to her tip. She was very curt and rude. Then came the tip. It's pretty standard that for parties of 8 or more, there is an automatic gratuity added to the bill - which is fine. But apparently, if you sit down with a table of 8, you're automatically getting charged for gratuity. So, if four unrelated couples sit down with each other, you're getting charged. This just irked me, especially because the waitress was such a bitch. I would probably go back since the food and atmosphere was good, but I'd avoid the old crochety waitress like the plague.

We thouroughly enjoyed our dinner at Yamato Steakhouse tonight. We had the maki rolls with salmon and they were excellent. We also had the Hibachi Scallops and Hibachi Chicken. I will edit this post when the hibachi tables are open. Currently, they are under construction. The sushi is as good as any I have had. Tommy, the sushi chef, came from New York. He as several "signature rolls" that are not all on the menu that are 5-star. Shane behind the bar is a seasoned veteran. The hibachi food and bento boxes off the menu are superb. But my biggest compliment to this new restaurant so far is their eagerness please, and they listen to the customers. I'm really looking forward to the hibachi tables coming soon.

We've enjoyed Yamato twice as a family (of 6) and both times were amazing. The lemongrass chicken immediately set my taste buds alight with gorgeous rainbows of flavor. The teriyaki chicken in my bento box was arguably the best teriyaki I have ever had. The kids LOVE the chicken soba noodles. We had the lobster rangoon (oh my yum!) and the gyoza dumplings (the baby scarfed these as did we). They make their own salad dressing, aptly called Yum Yum Sauce and I just bought some to take home because it's outstanding. Husband got lots of sushi and raved about all of it. I didn't care for the miso soup, but that was also my first time trying miso. The desserts we tried were: fried ice cream (very good), cheesecake (amazing beyond belief) and fried bananas (very good but needed more chocolate sauce). The best part of the experience was the bill - Yamato is VERY affordable compared to the other Japanese steakhouses we have been to (lunch prices are even better!) yet the beautiful atmosphere is top notch. The service was good. We will definitely be back many times.
