Eating here used to be the Sunday afternoon ritual when I was in high school. Their lunch menu is so cheap for the quantity/quality of what you get. It's definitely not hard-core Chinese food, but it's great gateway Asian faire. The place is consistently packed and the parking lot is a victim of the institution's own success.

Great food. Good presentation, excellent tea. There may not be better Chinese food within 50 miles. The service was superb. The servers don't hover at all, yet it took all of five seconds to place my order after I'd closed the menu. Not once did I have to ask for a refill, and the food was out quickly. Lacking is nice atmosphere. It's fairly typical for a Chinese restaurant, and I hate to say it, but not bad for the local standard. I might just be upset that there doesn't seem to be a nice restaurant in Lima. Maybe I'll try the Olive Garden tomorrow. If you aren't like me and longing for a nice restaurant, highly recommended.

Nothing special about this place. Food was OK, kind of like Panda Express. There were not many choices in this area so I guess that's why it has such high reviews.

After living and working in Findlay for over six years, Hunan Gardens was by far and away the best Chinese restaurant in the area. Their lunch specials are a great deal, and they offer a wide variety of options.

I am not a local to Lima, just in town visiting my guy friend. I'm a fiend for Chinese food, so I thought I'd give this place a try. It definitely hit the spot for me! Definitely better than the average Chinese take-y out-y type restaurant! The waitress brought us water AND hot tea upon seating us. I had the Empress Chicken and my guy friend had the Sweet & Sour Chicken. The dinners came with one egg roll, one crab rangoon, and a bowl of [delicious] egg drop soup. Everything was very, very satisfying. The server was nice. And the overall atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant. I will definitely come here again if I come back to Lima.

I was traveling with an orchestra and we stopped in this area for our lunch break. A few of us were feeling adventurous so we decided to try Hunan Garden instead of the fast food places nearby. We were very pleasantly surprised. The tea and crispy strips with sauce were awesome to get. I got the Mongolian beef lunch special and it was great. The beef actually was real beef compared to what other restaurants use. My friends got the Kung Pao shrimp and Szchewan shrimp and both liked their dishes. The crab ragoon are different from what I'm used to, but they were fantastic. The fried rice was also great, not too heavy. I really had to go to bathroom right when we got there, three hours on a bus will do that, and they were amazingly clean. Also, the waitress was very attentive and helpful when we were ordering. All in all, a great afternoon stop.

Obviously I'm visiting from out of town. I am here on business from San Diego and had a craving for some chinese food. My expectations were probably not set too high because Lima is pretty small. But I read the reviews for this restaurant and felt it would be a good gamble to check it out. First - I took my order to go. The people who took my order were in the middle of dinner and seemed a little put out by my need for dinner (giggles). But they were efficient and thats fine. I ordered the Garlic Chicken and had them make it with white meat instead of dark, and they were accomodating without argument (unlike some restaurants when you want it "your" way). It was pretty decent when I got it back to the hotel. I also ordered the crab rangoon but no sweet sauce came with it. Additionally if you order it to go, you dont get the cool crisps and sweet sauce that everyone else raved about :-( So overall it was a decent experience but I dont think it was 5 star. Maybe it requires eating in to raise it up a few notches.

This is a great Chinese restaurant! Staff is friendly. This restaurant has won the "Asian Food Award" for the area several years running. Don't let the dinning room or the building scare you off. If you like sushi, you may not like it here... Fast for lunch and you can eat for under $5!!! Oh... They are fast getting it to you.

I love their food, when I can get what I ordered. The oldest waiter has a habit of ordering on her own regardless of what one orders. Make sure she "Gets it" or she'll give you this funny look as if it was your fault she didn't get it right. Their food is good, although I don't get their egg roll. Our eggs rolls back east have ground pork in it too, theirs is just cabbage. I would skip them unless you are desperate for an "egg roll"

Sushi is very authentic and a lot of flavors to choose from. I'm from Taiwan, and this is the best place I like to get sushi in Lima area. Oh, and they also have a lot of dishes that are not on the menu. Eg. Steamed fish, crab, lobster, fried rice-noodles, tofu, Asian veggie,.... Just ask the waitress. BTW, my favorite food are lo-men and Moo-Shu beef.

Not much to look at on the outside but the parking lot was full and usually that's a good sign so we took a chance. So glad we did. The food was delicious and our service was great! Would definitely go back again if passing by.

When you're first seated, you're greeted with some crispy wonton wrappers, almost like a Chinese tortilla chip, to dip in a sweet sauce. I highly recommend the hot tea, it has great flavor. I'm a creature of habit whenever I eat here. The Szechwan Shrimp is my favorite. It comes with a decent amount of perfectly cooked shrimp, tons of water chestnuts, and onion in a spicy red sauce. Order the dinner special and get your choice of soup, crab Rangoon, and egg roll for $8.95.

Great lunch time specials for $5-7 that includes soup, appetizer, entree and rice. Way too much food for one meal and I always have left overs. The decor is similar to the 1960's style gold and red Chinese decorations. The Szechuan shrimp is excellent!

I was visiting my friend in Lima, OH and I was craving for some good Chinese food. Its is a small town and I was not very hopeful to find any awesome place like the ones we have here in WA, but I decided to give Hunan a try... Like: the prices are great! I got half size dinner, 1 appetizer, and wonton soup for less than 10 dollars. Dislike: It was the worst fried crab wonton I ever had. There was NO filling at all!! it was like 10% of a teaspoon, that was it. It was also over fried and was very hard to bite. I throw everything away. The wonton soup was just ok, more like seasoned water. For dinner I got shrimp with lobster sauce (my favorite). I was not impressed at all. The amount of shrimp was good, the fried rice was ok, but the lobster sauce had giant pieces of vegetables, I mean really giant. it was not very good at all. If you are in a small town craving for Chinese food, It might worth to go there, but if you had tasted the really good Chinese food or if you are picky, do not waste you time. I don't think I would eat there again...

Very pleased to find a better than average, non-chain dining option in Lima. That they deliver super fast to my hotel across the street is a bonus. Every time I drive by, usually weekday dinner time, the parking lot is busy. A good sign. I've eaten in, gotten my food to go, and, most recently, tried delivery. Each time, I've been impressed. Their Hot and Sour Soup is quite good. Their Salt and Pepper Shrimp is also pretty tasty (I'm trying very hard NOT to say 'especially for mid-Ohio').

I have stopping here for dinner the last couple of years and have tried something different each time. Always fantastic! Each time I'm impressed with the egg roll, crab rangoon, and the hot and sour soup! Of course the entrees are delicious too. This is the place that you can try the item you always wondered about but were scared. They always do a good job.

I picked this restaurant completely on the reviews noted by our friends on Yelp. I was seated immediately....water and menu followed...what to choose? I decided to go with the recommendation of Y.C., and picked the Moo-Shu Beef, and went with the dinner special. It came with soup (I picked the hot & sour), and either steamed or fried rice (I went for the steamed rice). It was perfect. It is also enjoyable to watch the restaurant fill up and the waitress to be singled out by returning patrons, all with warm greetings. This tells a lot about this business. I will be back..!!!

I stay in Lima often but had missed this place. Not the place to get Sushi (no tuna, no saki) but great apps and main dishes at reasonable prices. Mo shu beef was great and didn't even need the pancakes( like thin flour tortilla) to enjoy. Will definitely come back .

Honestly, it was ok given the chain choices surrounding it, it was fresh and service and food were quick and fresh. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to find it again.

The Place: Hunan is a reasonably small place - I'm going to guess there are 10-12 booths and 10 tables or so. The decorations are your typical Chinese kitsch - pretty much what you'd expect for a mid-priced eat-in Chinese restaurant. The place is clean and comfortable, and the bathrooms are clean, although very utilitarian (not that that matters to me). The Food: AMAZING. This is my favorite Chinese food on the planet, and I've tried quite a few places in my time. Each meal starts with free hot tea and small fried pieces of flour that you can dip in a sweet sauce - a nice paring to hold you over until the food comes. I nearly always order the Hunan Pork, but I've tried some of the other dishes, and they're all perfect. The meat is high-quality and cooked to perfection. The vegetables are cooked though but crunchy. The sauce is exceptionally good. The rice, both fried and steamed, is good as well. Long story short = all of the food is absolutely delicious. The menu contains all the normal Chinese fare you'd expect, with plenty of beef, pork, chicken and seafood dishes, as well as appetizers, combo dishes and desserts. The Service: I almost always get top-notch service at Chinese restaurants, but this place is the epitome of great service. You're sat immediately, you're order is taken as soon as you're ready, you're order is ALWAYS correct, and you're drinks are always full. As good as it gets! The Price: Couple the amazing food and the amazing service with the rock-bottom prices, and that's what takes Hunan into the stratosphere of the Chinese food world. Big meals can be had for between $7-8 (the lunch/dinner specials include the main dish, as well as an egg roll, crab rangoon, and a bowl of soup served as an appetizer). I can't tell you how many times I've paid $10 (including a drink and tip) for a fantastic meal, and then had to get a to-go box because of all the [delicious] leftovers. Overall: It's really hard for me to put into words how much I love this place. This is one of my favorite restaurants on the PLANET, and I literally have ZERO COMPLAINTS about this wonderful place. I cannot recommend this place enough. It's fantastic. I stop by every time I'm in the Lima area - even making sure I take US 30 back from trips to Chicago so I'm near enough to Hunan to grab a meal. PERFECT.

Best Chinese food in LIMA. Not to be compared to larger cities Chinese food.

When going in I noticed no buffet - good sign. Also notice that most of the people appeared to be regular customers - another good sign. Hot & sour soup, egg role, general taos chicken - all very good. Would eat here again.

I know you shouldn't visit a Chinese restaurant for sushi, but I read in The Lima News that Hunan Garden had introduced sushi to its menu, so I had to try it. Awful. Flavorless, stale and about $7 a roll is the recipe for bad sushi. I ordered the rainbow, spicy scallop and a third roll I thankfully can't remember. Each was worse than the previous. On the bright side, the server was kind and accommodating. Perhaps I'll return to try the Chinese offerings. Hunan Garden's lunch and dinner specials are tempting and cheap.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
