If you ask the locals (in the county to the north), this is the place to go for a nice dinner out. I recently accompanied family here for dinner to celebrate birthdays. It was, what I expected in this neck of the woods. We waited about 20 minutes upon arrival for a table. Each in our party ordered an entree which came with breadsticks, a (iceberg) lettuce salad, and choice of side. All in all, it was less than $20 a person for supper. Our server was friendly, but did seem busy, and didn't offer us dessert (the tray did look tempting). The dining room is one large room which was perfect for the small town attitude of wanting to see everyone in the place and who's eating what. There isn't anything in particular I would change about this place for what it is; it's just one of those places that illuminates my 'city' lifestyle and pallet. If you're in town and looking for a sit-down restaurant that's not a chain, this is a solid choice (they have $4 glasses of wine on their drink list, a literal brick of fried onions as an app, steak, pasta, and seafood-something for everyone). But, if you're looking for something that is "uniquely Lima," go to Kewpee.

All and all this place is excellent. The only thing I wasn't a fan of was the chicken in the chicken alfredo. I'm not sure if it was canned? Other than that the margaritas are on point. I definitely recommend the spinach dip. It's different from any other I've had before. The server Amanda was perfect. Very attentive and happy, she knew her menu and drinks well and was very helpful with her recommendations. I will come back for sure.

I travel for business and eat in some of the best restaurants. I have been to fancier places, but I have not been to friendlier. Niki was my server and she is awesome, friendly and helpful. The food was great, the breadsticks are delicious. I had the breaded chicken breast meal, which included salad and those awesome breadsticks. Parmesan Peppercorn dressing with my salad was delicious. The chicken is a new item to the menu as indicated by the add in half page to the menu. The chicken is served with your choice of sauce on the chicken or at the side. I chose the sweet chili. When my meal arrived the chicken looked so good I tried it without the sauce. Tender, juicy, delicious and just the right amount of seasoning. I hesitated to try the sauce, the chicken was just perfect without it. The sauce was also amazing. The food was outstanding, the service was second to none. Niki is a treasure.

I have given this place too many last chances. It never fails, you will wait to sit, your steak will be over cooked and service will be bad. Last time in my wife sent her steak back for being over cooked. The second steak brought out was not even the same cut she ordered and the server knew it, mentioned it and set it down anyways. I confronted the owner as we left and told him this was the 3rd strike and we would not be back, he did nothing and didn't seem to care. Go to Dicks in Kalida if you want a good steak!

I can remember going here as a kid and it being a great place to eat. Either my taste buds have changed or most of the food is GFS/prepackaged. They do still have some good food though. The best meal available is the ribeye. I have never been disappointed; that is why this is a 3 star and not a 2. Please bring back the homemade sauces I loved them.

This Italian place on Lima's northeast side is popular; the wait on Friday night was 20-minutes. Waiting is fine but Casa put little thought in their waiting area, leaving a crowded and awkward experience right from the start. There is much I dislike about this place despite it mass appeal, although overall I found it mediocre--take my rating to be 2.5 to 3 range in a world where Yelp has fractions. There is no lobby to wait other than the space by the door. There is a bar, but the waiting customers spill onto it, and as a family joint that means children sitting at the bar. The bar itself is weak, nothing interesting on-tap. Forgoing the standard check process that has your server collect the payment, Casa has patrons walk to a register that is behind the bar. This creates a mess of people bumping into you, lots of being in the way, noise, and 7-year olds looking at you as you drink beer. They need to work on that. I ordered chicken alfredo with a salad. The salad was fresh but not exactly tossed completely even. There was too much lettuce and not enough other ingredients. The dressing, ranch, was standard middle-of-the-road restaurant quality: just a bit better than you can get at the supermarket. The chicken alfredo was not good, not even in the top 50-percent I've had. It was mostly sauce, and the sauce tasted like it came from a can. The Broccoli did not taste fresh at all. The chicken was unnoticeable under the thick soup of the alfredo. If the dish had the olive oil, Parmesan cheese, and garlic that it must have my tongue did not notice. My dinner mates though ordered fried pork. I had a bite, it was excellent. I ordered the wrong thing. Service here was great. The decor was so-so: earth tones, some still-lifes on the wall, some fake vines. This is a family restaurant not a hifalutin romantic stop, so the wine list is not extensive. One last thing that turned me off. The check paying process, the lack of a workable waiting space, the seemingly lack of quality in my dish, all seemed to to hand-and-hand with what was on the tables, beneath a protective glass--advertisements. On every table and every bar space were ads for local business and services. I get that the point of business is to make money, but from a customers point of view, his patronage is not to make the business money, it is to have the experience. But when a business is so blatantly about it as to put advertising on tables makes this reviewer flinch. Don't come off that greedy Casa. It ruins the experience and makes this reviewer not want to return.

I was born and raised in Lima and I've worked in the restaurant business for 23 years. Cas has been part of my life since I was a kid. That said, the Italian breaded pork chop I had was delicious, the salad was cold and crisp but the breaded shrimp were store bought and the only down spot in the trip. Katelyn was our server. She was busy and had what was a 10 or 12 top that ordered right when we got there. A couple tables down was a guy who seemed miserable and complained about an up charge of 60 cents for cheese. Not only did our server do a great job with us but she had the human version of grumpy cat eating out of her hand. Overall GREAT experience...oh, and get the German chocolate cake!!!!!

What a great place to have dinner! Whether you want a romantic meal, or taking out the family, this is the place. The owners are good people. The staff is friendly and quick. I never had ameal here that wasn't delicious!

I actually really like Casa Lu Al. We've been going there for quite a few years. Ask any local and they will tell you great things about this place. My food has always been good (not outstanding, but pretty good for what you pay). I usually get lasagna, but have also gotten chicken parmesan, tortellini, ravioli, and a few other dishes. I have been pleased with all of those dishes. They also come with salads (with house thousand island!) and delicious homemade breadsticks. Prices run around $10 per meal, which is pretty good for the food you get. The service is always great. We like some of the waitstaff so much we request them by name, and we'd hardly be considered regulars. They're always very attentive and easy to talk to. The atmosphere is okay, a little dim. The biggest downside is the advertising on the tables, which doesn't bother me too much -- it's almost kind of interesting to see what places are around that maybe I wasn't aware of. Overall, I think Casa Lu Al is a very good place, and definitely one of the best local Italian places in Lima.

Bless their hearts, they tried. I was in Lima on business, and the culinary landscape looked pretty bleak. A client suggested Casa Lu Al, probably because I have an Italian last name. The first bad sign when I walked in was the advertising on the table. When I'm in a restaurant, I'm really not looking for a place to get my transmission fixed, or find a reliable pest control service. The clientele also looked like they were waiting for a bingo tournament to begin, with the average age of about 75. As for the food - their homemade sausage was actually passable, if a little bland. Their pasta, however, was overcooked, and the house red sauce was an abomination. Their wine list is limited to what comes out of a box. Service was attentive and friendly, and probably the high point of the meal. Sadly, from what I saw, this may be the best Lima has to offer. If you don't go in expecting much, you'll get an OK meal, but not much more. I'd suggest keeping it simple, and maybe going with the oilve oil and garlic for the pasta instead of their other sauces. And don't be afraid to ask for al dente pasta, and explain what that means.

Casa Lu Al is a family operated restaurant and bar on Lima's north side, across from a correctional facility. The eatery is spacious and served by a staff of varying ages and attitudes. The food comes in huge portions and at very reasonable prices. I had an appetizer, salad, breadsticks and spaghetti with two meatballs for $17. The appetizers, dubbed The Italian Scallion, is a giant block of fried onion served with a peppercorn dipping sauce. Delicious. My spaghetti was just how I like it: saucy and hot. And the complimentary salad came with loads of sliced egg and shredded cheeses. The bar features one of Lima's few flat-panel TVs, and drinks are reasonably priced. A fellow diner had four Grey Goose-and-sodas for $18. One complaint is the music. We head everything from the "Grease" soundtrack to old Kylie Minogue to Steve Miller Band to Jennifer Lopez. It all was godawful, and I wished to God they would just shut off the music and let us hear the NBA draft. Or at least pipe in some schmaltzy Italian mood music or Sinatra.

Food was ok, but nothing special. Everyone in the area raves about this place, but I think it is because there is nothing better around Lima. I ordered a ribeye steak, and it was thin and overcooked. I would not go back there if I had a choice.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
