Golf at Thunderbird, Pizza at Sandbar. This is what a local establishment should be -- not some dreadful chain place in a mini-mall off the main highway, but off the little roads, back by the water. It's pizza was the inspiration for the way I cut my peppers and onions, diced, and almost integrated into the pie. Wasn't it called "Duke LeGrande's" at some point?

I had a great experience here. Last October I flew to New Jersey from Chicago to buy a used car. On my return drive home, I planned finding a restaurant that served fried Lake Erie Yellow Perch. Those who live near Lake Huron may not think this is a big deal, but since I live in Chicago, you cannot get this here. In fact, it is nearly impossible to find any Lake Perch in Illinois. I showed up on a Monday afternoon around 2:00 and the regulars sitting at the bar made me feel at home. I ordered a perch basket and it was absolutely fantastic. I cannot say anything for anything else on the menu as all I wanted was the perch. For a fish fry, I highly recommend the Sand Bar.

Good food but the slowest, and I mean slowest service in the world!!!! Been here three or four times, love the food but man the service really sucks!!! Wish they would fix this problem.

We came here on a suggestion from my mom. We started off with the Artichoke Dip which was one of the best I have ever had. We then got the rosemary pizza, and added tomato. Also good. This pizza comes with a side of pesto. The only downside is that the place is on the small side and is very busy in the summer. We got seated right away, but it was a weekend evening around 6pm in the winter/spring time. Prices are good, lots of menu options besides their much praised pizzas. Also, Lots of TVs for the sports fans.

The pizza used to be awesome now it's like frozen pizza out of a box. Don't know why they changed the pizza but it's HORRIBLE now!

Okay, I'm not a bar-goer. I understand the type of food that resides there and that's mainly the reason I'm not interested, so just know that that's where I'm coming from. However, for some reason, my parents like this place and I accompanied family last night for a visit. It was unfortunate. Everything on the menu had to have over 1000 calories, so to err on the side of caution, I ordered salad and a panini. The salad was a salad (nothing to write home about), but the food that came was not what I have established in my mind to be a panini. Their "panini bread" was actually just regular white bread that looked like it had been soaking in butter and oil for three days. It was so heavy and greasy I couldn't even eat it. Do they seriously think this was a panini? It didn't seem incredibly clean either, the front door was absolutely glossed in greasy hand and fingerprints, and the waitress left something to be desired. But hey, if you like slightly brash service and food that is either fried, battered, or cooked in whale blubber, be my guest!

People in Erie County used to be either Sand Bar people, or Marconi's people, when it came to pizza. We were Marconi's people, but when I was out drinking with high school friends, we'd occasionally get Sand Bar pizza. You had to go down in the dark, off-the-beaten path part of Huron to find this bar tucked away near the docks and shore. The pizzas were big, sprawling things with lots of cheese and toppings. It was like a trip to the dark side for me. I was always happy to retreat to the security of Marconi's, but in a few months I was always ready to flirt with danger again.

We drove considerably far out of our way to try this well-rated joint. Unfortunately the kitchen closes at what sounds like a strange time to me --- 9pm on a very busy Sunday --- so we couldn't even sample so much as an appetizer. I'm less worried about all the money they're losing because of this, but somewhat empathetic to the room full of people drinking, socializing, and watching Sunday NASCAR on an empty stomach. We went to the 24-hour restaurant Blue Sky in Amherst and traded our money for a satisfying meal there instead. Caveat emptor with regard to Yelp's hours.

Nice little sports bar off the beaten path. My parents are from the area, and my grandparents still live in Huron. Every time we visit the town, Sand Bar is always within the itinerary. We all usually get the perch because it's "right here from lake Erie" my pops always says.. we also get the great lakes beer. A lot of history, close to the lake, overall great place.

Tried Sand Bar pizza for the first time last night. Upon picking it up I found the Sand Bar to be very clean and kept, the people friendly, and the atmosphere relaxed. As for the pizza, it was fantastic! I really liked the crust. I think it's one of the best around. It tasted very fresh and Had a substantial outer crust while not making the covered part too thick.
