Well, the frosting is bad and the cake is horrible...not a good start for a cupcake shop. My biggest mistake was expecting large cupcakes like you get in NYC. Unfortunately these are more on par with Giant Eagle's packaged bakery offerings. I will not be returning unless they really change their cupcake options.

Just too expensive, too rich, and it's too bad because the cupcakes here are pretty awful. That being said, if you like Xanax and white wine, you'll probably love Main Street Cupcakes.

These are good cupcakes. I have no complaints. The frosting is sweet and light, the cake is moist and fluffy. I'm not a cake person, but I like this cake. The flavors are good. They always have something unique to offer. My favorite so far has been the Strawberry Champagne, but the bellini was really good and I am a sucker for anything vanilla. Their chocolate offerings are very good as well. I'm not a chocolate person, so saying that is kind of a big deal. I would buy a chocolate cupcake here. I don't think that I would buy in bulk, I looked into it for my sissy's bridal shower and it would have cost me a small fortune. But, to just buy one, not a big deal. They're worth the price. Delicious.

These cupcakes are very dry. Big disappointment. The frosting was crunchy and sweet so some might like that. The flavors weren't very strong. A cake mix would be just as good, maybe better if it was moist.

I really don't get it....I can make better cupcakes at home with a cake mix....not worth $3 a cake for tough dry cakes.

Ordered 3 dozen mini cupcakes for my husbands birthday. Went over my husbands favorite, chocolate with vanilla buttercream with sprinkles. Got two other kinds as well. Picked them up before the party and got them home to find they made double chocolate cupcakes with sprinkles instead of what I ordered. I took the frosting off the white wedding cake cupcake and switched it so my husband could have one of his favorites. While the flavors were good enough, the cake itself was tough, chewy. Not impressed at all.

I'm actually surprised at some of the bad reviews for this place. We stopped by recently, afternoon time, and really enjoyed the cupcakes we got. Being afternoon, I think 3-ish, they were about 90% sold out - evidently they open early and sell out quick like a donut shop. Anyway, my two daughters and I stopped by while we were walking around Hudson and shopping, and we each got a different cupcake. First off, the cupcakes are big, but not huge. And the flavors are very unique. We thought all 3 cupcakes had rich, creamy frosting, and the cake was very moist. No complaints about quality at all. I got the Pina Colada cupcake, and it was so good! I find it amazing how much they can actually get a cupcake to taste like a Pina Colada. Yummy! One of my daughters got the Red Velvet cupcake - Red Velvet cake being her favorite, and she liked it a lot. I tasted it, and it was very, very rich - the cream cheese frosting was delicious! My other daughter got the Pink Lemonade cupcake, and that was really good too. It tasted just like pink lemonade. Very cool and refreshing, even while being rich at the same time. She really enjoyed it. Overall, we left very happy, impressed and satisfied. We intend to go back again. The only problem is that they told me that they close when they sell out of cupcakes. So that could be 4:00pm, 3:00pm, 2:00pm, noon, who knows ...... So kind of hard to plan a visit when you never know if they're going to be open or not. I would recommend getting there early or at least call ahead to see if they're open. Like I said, they're similar to a donut shop, so keep that in mind. Really good, unique cupcakes though! :)

I'm going to list the flavors that I ordered just to make you love this place as much as I do: Mojito Irish Car Bomb Pineapple and Coconut Red Velvet Pumpkin Spice Wedding Cake Lemon Chocolate French Toast Berries and Champagne Oreo Cookie Root beer

Here's a good idea: start a cupcake store. Just sell cupcakes for a lot of money. Close the deal by NOT frosting the entire cupcake. See, that's how you know it is a gourmet cupcake. Just spin a little gob of frosting on the top and your customer will see the cake part underneath because there isn't any frosting around the edge. That's gourmet. I went here and got me a mess o' red velvet cupcakes and oh you should have seen how the cupcakes were frosted in the middle. The cake was chocolate but it was red. My mouth was really dry but I said, "No way. This half-frosted cupcake that looks red is actually chocolate." Milk helps get them down.

I live within walking distance of Main Street Cupcakes and have been there about a half a dozen times since it opened up. Over the years I've found the best approach with Main Street Cupcakes is to lower one's expectations before entering the blue building. Want a larger than normal sized cupcake found in cupcake shops in NYC; nope not here. Want elaborate top/frosting adornment worthy of a bakery whose sole mission is cupcakes; nope not here. Want a cupcake produced with perfectly moist cake; nope not there. Want anything remotely close to the cupcake shows that can be viewed on the Food Network; nope not here. That pretty much sums up MSC. If you change your expectations to want none of the items above, you may actually have a decent experience going to Main Street Cupcakes. I even gave MSC another shot for Valentine's Day 2012 and purchased their special four pack. My wife and I sampled each of the cakes and came the same conclusion again; small, dry, and unexciting frosting/adornment. The red velvet was especially poor, with terrible taste, super dry, and nearly unedible. So why have I continued to return to MSC? Well it's close (we are in walking distance), there is a lack of competition, and it is a nice stopping point when on a walk to the Hudson farmer's market and around First & Main. Returning each time to MSC, I think my wife and I secretly hope that the cupcakes will become dramatically better, but over the years they never have. How does this place survive, I don't know; novelty I guess. In summary, two stars. When I'm with the family walking around Hudson, I don't mind stopping in and picking up a couple of cakes for the fun of it, but I also have lowered my expectations to tolerate MSC. However, there is no way I would ever use Main Street Cupcakes for any sort of event as I would never place guest experiences on the line with cupcakes that are only tolerable.

These cupcakes are delicious enough that we drive from downtown Cleveland out to Hudson on occasion to buy them. My favorites are the Wedding Day White and the Birthday Cake (love sprinkles!) but I truly have not tasted any that were bad. I've always found them to be moist with a little too much of that delicious icing. So why only 4 stars? Because sometimes after the 30 minute drive, we arrive to find that Main Street Cupcakes is closed (3-4 hours early) or are sold out of almost everything.

I normally don't pay so much for cupcakes, but a friend saw that Main Street Cupcakes had one of the best cupcakes in the country and demanded we go. I grew up in Hudson and didn't even know a cupcake shop existed, let alone such a famous one. I've tried red velvet, cookies n cream, and strawberries and pink champagne myself...but my friends I've brought have tried other flavors and we've never been disappointed. he cake itself is average, but the icing is delicious and the cupcakes are pretty big! I probably wouldn't go here on a regular basis for myself, but they make cute gifts and surprises that I would pay to give to others. I was really impressed that once when I went they even made Team Edward vs. Team Jacob cupcakes for Twilight fans because Eclipse was coming out! If you have your eye on a flavor from their menu, don't expect it to be there around early afternoon if it's even there that day. Their cupcakes sell so quickly and I've been disappointed a couple times by wanting to "stop by" only to find that they didn't have a single cupcake available.

Recently I had to do a 48 hour fast for tests to be run but had a craving for cupcakes, didn't have time to go to Campbell's in Cleveland so I figured I stop by Main street in picturesque Hudson, Ohio. With all the hype I knew they'd be great. I decided to buy wedding cake and red velvet, since my husband loves red velvet. While I was starving I encouraged him to try the $2.50 cake so I could picture myself enjoying it the following evening two bites later and washing it down with a bottle of water he offered no feedback. The next day when I was ready to try it I found out why he was speechless, they were as dry as a Sahara desert and extremely sweet with no flavor. The icing on the red velvet was the same as the wedding cake...I did not taste any cream cheese, which seals the deal for a red velvet cake...disappointing and definitely not worth the money!!!

A while ago, a friend surprised me with a box of assorted cupcakes from Main Street Cupcakes. They were amazing. I never thought cupcakes could taste so good! For my mom's 50th birthday party, I decided to surprise her by bringing cupcakes for all of the guests. I had high expectations, but I was sure MSC would meet them. I was so excited to finish dinner so I could enjoy a pricey, pretty little cupcake myself. I was so, so disappointed. I thought my cupcake was dryer than the ones you buy at the grocery store that have sat out for three days. Then a guest turned to me and commented on the cupcakes. "These are gross - where are they from?" I asked another close friend and she said she was trying to be polite and didn't want to say anything, but she, too did not like her cupcake. She said it tasted like gravel. You'd think out of the 4 varieties I bought, one would have been good. I called MSC the next day and after giving me the runaround, they finally agreed to give me a gift certificate for my purchase price. They were a snooty bunch to deal with, but I finally got the gift certificate. Not that I plan on ever using it... The worst part is guests are still commenting on the cupcakes! I'm giving them 2 starts because at one time, I enjoyed their cupcakes. Other than that, they deserve no stars for how my party's cupcakes tasted or for their customer service and manners.

This was my first trip to a cupcake only shop. The cupcake were really good, but not amazing. The icing was way better than the cake portion of the cupcake. I would go again, but my expectations would be a tad lower. Staff was friendly, but allowed a rude customer to cut us off in line without letting him know he was not next. Facility is very clean with appeal ling simple decor. One item to note, the hours are limited, and when they run out of cupcakes, they close for the day, so get there early if you want a good selection.

Cupcakes I ordered: *red velvet *strawberries & pink champagne *classic chocolate *chocolate chip They are delicious! My favorite so far is the strawberries and pink champagne. It is subtly strawberry with just the slightest touch of champagne flavor. The sugar crystals are just the best little touch on top! I was also surprised at the prices. All the ones I bought were under $2 each. They had some on the menu that were more expensive, but there were quite a few with the under $2 price. This was the first time I've been in the shop and will be sure to return!

I love sweets like a fat kid loves cake. (No offense to any fat kids who happen to not like cake...). I had been saying for MONTHS that I was going to go get these cupcakes, so I made a special trip out to Hudson to get some to try, and some for a family dinner the next day. I ordered just over a dozen, in different flavors: Classic Vanilla, black & white, french toast, white chocolate cheesecake, wedding day white, carrot top, and buckeye. We also had another one that was chocolate cake with chocolate frosting and nuts inside, but I can't remember what that one was called. I was able to sample several of the flavors. Carrot top was my favorite - I think it had more of a cream chees frosting. Classic vanilla was...well...vanillla. I think it had a little too much vanilla. The cakes are just the right size, but like some others said, I thought there was too much frosting. Actually, everyone at the family dinner said the same thing. Additionally, just about every flavor is made with some variation of buttercream. I'm not a huge fan of regular buttercream and tend to like the french buttercream better (it's a little lighter), or something with a slightly lighter texture. As others said, the place tends to close early, especially on the weekends. If you want the worm, you'd best be an early bird. That is one reason I didn't give a higher rating. If they sell out early so often on the weekends, shouldn't they be making more cupcakes on those days? Expect to pay about $2 or more per cake. I'll probably go back, but not because I was blown away by it...just because I haven't found another place to try yet. Suggestions welcomed! :)

The cake part of these cupcakes is just OK. Well flavored and not too sweet, but little dry and insubstantial. It is weird, though, because I had one of their cupcakes that they make for Playhouse Square. The cupcake was much bigger and the cake more dense and moist. The frosting, on the other hand is the best frosting I have ever tasted. Rich, flavorful, sweet (but not overly sugary), smooth, decadent. The flavor combinations are fantastic. Try the special cupcakes that have a little sweet surprise in the middle of the cupcake. So try this place for the fun flavors and really good frosting! I hear they are opening a store in Rocky River soon. Very cool.

Short and sweet. Main Street is ok. Not as good as A Cookie & A Cupcake Boutique. Why? The frosting isn't as good. The cake isn't as good. So the 2 important peices fall short.

Ordered some gourmet cupcakes from Main Street Cupcakes for the staff at Generation Model Management (Maddie's agent) in New York on Monday to be shipped UPS 2nd day. They charged me $33 for "shipping and handling" and then shipped them UPS ground on Wednesday. As of today (Saturday) they weren't delivered and by Monday they'll be stale and likely fit only for the trash bin. If you want friendly, fast, affordable service the I strongly recommend you shop elsewhere. Customer service isn't anywhere in the owners vocabulary either. Her staff proved to be rude and untrained. Run, don't walk away from this establishment.

My husband and I knew we wanted something a little less traditional for our wedding when it came to "the cake". Enter Main Street Cupcakes! We made an appointment with MSC to check out all that they have to offer - for a small fee (like $15 maybe?), we were able to choose 6 cupcakes to taste test, and discuss our options on ordering a bulk amount of cupcakes. Let me just say, between the two of us, we could NOT finish those 6 cupcakes - they were very large and so delicious, we wanted to savor some later! I always enjoy going to small businesses and meeting the (95%!) friendly, down to earth people who own them and are employed by them. MSC was no exception. With the ease and flexibility of choices in cupcakes and delivery, this was the easiest part of our wedding planning. We ordered either 9 dozen cupcakes in 6 different flavors: Strawberries & Pink Champagne (my favorite and the one we saved for our one-year anniversary) Mint Chocolate Chip Pumpkin Spice Cup of Java (espresso bean on top!) Chip Overload Classic Chocolate We got married on a Sunday afternoon, meaning the cupcakes were made the previous night and delivered to us at about 11 a.m. about 20 minutes away. The delivery went very smooth and none of the cakes looked like they'd even left the store! Being from rural Ohio, cupcakes haven't really caught on as the 'trendy' thing to do in weddings as of yet, so everyone was pretty impressed and thought they were really cool ... everyone kept asking, when do we get to have cupcakes? There were quite a few left over (you can't order too many!) so people were taking some home for other family/friends who couldn't make it ... my new uncle-in-law said the next time he comes from Tennessee to visit, he wants another one of those cupcakes! So, I can't recommend MSC enough. The Hudson area in which it is located is also very nice; a great place to just stroll downtown whilst munching on a delicious cupcake!

Everything is still true from my first review however, I wanted to bring the rating down to 4 stars only because, while all the cupcakes I'd say are at least good. They don't always have my favorite flavors which are a safe bet to put me in the mood to give it a 5 star rating. Some are just very rich, too rich and others lack the powerful flavor I'd expect from it. I'm still in the process of trying all the different ones that sound delicious to me. You shouldn't let this review sway you from trying it, its just that I felt to get 5 stars I should be able to go every time and have something outstanding and its just not always the case.

You could kill a man with these rock hard inedible disasters of pastry. Hard icing. Dry cake. Ruuuuuude employees. Even more snooty of an owner. After being ignored when i walked in, I was told that I had to buy 6 cupcakes and could not try just one first. Fair enough. But if you dont give individuals or samples make sure they taste good. I got 6, yes 6!, different cupcakes and all of them were hard as if they were sitting out for days or even weeks. I get giant eagle cupcakes for$3.50, these were $13 dollars for 6. So, they should hold up. They do not. From the very first day i bought them, they were terrible, hard taste bad etc. I cant believe they are in business. Store bought cupcakes, like giant eahle stay moist for days if not an entire week. Whats erong with these? Furthermore, I called the business and the owner was not in. Two days later she called me back. She started off immediately with a snobby and defensive attitude. She told me that I must have put them in the fridge or Im lying. Neither of which were true. I started off kind and said they were not fresh, maybe someone left them out by a heater. She said she was there that day and that wouldnt happen. She saidshe wouldnit refund me fir 12 measely dollars. Then, i said i wasnt gonna say it but they were inedible and i deserve a refund. She said she would talj to her partner ( her husband prob whipped) and said she would gey me a gift certificate. I dont want a gift certificate for inedible rocks when i purchased cupcakes as a gift for my boyfriends bday. She said i would have to email my personal credit card info to get a refund, the refund she said she may not even give me. So, instead of wasting my time. Shes getting this glowing review. Dont waste your time. Snooty people. Rock hard " cupcakes ".

For some reason unremembered by me, we were driving through the small shopping district of Hudson known now as First & Main when I spotted Main Street Cupcakes. I had been craving a really good cupcake for some time; being a pseudo-baker myself I have almost unobtainable standards as to what is a really good cupcake but we still turned the car around and made our way into Main Street Cupcakes. The bakery itself is quaint yet modern as bakeries go. The walls are brightly painted and a small section hosts a dozen or so small light oak tables; the maybe two feet long case displays a vast assortment of picture-perfect fluffy cupcakes. We ordered a half dozen of various flavors: chocolate peanut butter, vanilla buttercream, and red velvet - off the top of my head. Each was more exquisite than the previous. The frosting was rich, creamy, sugary - it tasted of fresh, quality butter, minute superfine sugar crystals and real vanilla bean. The cakes themselves were light, with a moist crumb - the perfect balance to the frosting. The ladies at Main Street Cupcake certainly know how to please this picky cupcake consumer. I just wish I lived closer so that I could sample more of their wide array of flavors!

I'm a Hudson resident. This place is never open. Also, WAY over priced. Great marketing skills to sell Duncan Hines cupcakes with "gourmet" frosting.

I'm at a loss for words how anybody can dispute the quality of the product at Main Street Cupcakes. I do agree that the selection rotates, but the flip-side of that is they'll make any flavor you want if you call them the day before. This is anything but grocery store quality.

I was so glad to read that someone else had a bad experience here. I bought six cupcakes, two each of three different flavors. They were horrid. There is a place in Chagrin Falls (a small counter inside Stash, which is next to Joey's) that has fantastic cupcakes. They are pricey ($4.00) but wonderful. I would agree with Matthew and only give them one star- but a friend likes their cupcakes. I guess there is just no accounting for taste!

Main Street Cupcakes is a phenomenal cupcake shop located in Hudson's Historic District. When a place receives awards such as Best Cupcake in Cleveland from Cleveland Magazine, in addition to national recognition from Ellen Degeneres, you know you've got something good. The bakery itself is pretty small with only about 5-8 tables. There is only one batch of cupcakes made daily, meaning that when they're gone, they're gone for the day. My tip would be to hit the bakery as early as you can so you can have the best selection of cupcakes. When I made my first, and unfortunately only so far, trip, it was about 4pm on a Sunday and the selection was pretty reduced. Unfortunately, the non-alcoholic Mojito wasn't available, which was Ellen Degeneres' pick from the bakery. I ended up going with the Hazelnut, which was excellent. The cake part of it was perfect. It was spongy and flavorful, which is what you want in a cupcake. The homemade frosting was excellent, much better than any grocery store bakery. Overall, if you are in need of a cupcake fix, Main St. Cupcakes is the place to go.
