Louie’s Grill Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Hit up LouiE's for breakfast today with the Ukraine Brain and a few other work friends as part of our "Open Breakfast Initiative" (OBI). The group had everything from Omelets to Huevos Rancheros, to simple pancakes, so we ran the range of "fusion" from traditional American to full-on south-of-the-border fare. I wound up getting the Machaca with Eggs. This dish is beef brisket with scrambled eggs, peppers, cheese mixed together, served with a generous helping of black beans on the side, and a handful of tortillas. The dish was excellently done, and service was good. Their coffee actually surprised me at how good it was-- it was not served at the temperature of the sun, and it was not overpowering. Overall, a tasty, quick, relatively inexpensive ($9.00 entree) breakfast that will at least last me until lunchtime.

We headed to Louie's for breakfast and left with a "Meh" rating. When there is a place as great as Starliner right up the road, it's hard not feeling cheated out of something awesome with mediocre food. Also, this review is about breakfast only - I have not yet been for lunch or dinner. I was shocked at how big and new the restaurant felt - it was HUGE, and was one big room. It was nicely decorated, but empty at 10am on a Wednesday. I guess that's not so surprising. The signage at the door and VERY prominent bar made me feel like it was more a sports bar than anything. The main menu seemed really intriguing, and I wouldn't mind going back to try it for lunch or dinner, but being married to breakfastwithnick.com , I was there to scope out the morning meal. The breakfast menu was much smaller than I was expecting and was less inventive than I had hoped. I ordered the breakfast quesadilla with chorizo, my sister ordered some breakfast taco things, I forget what they were called, and we got the rainbow pancakes for my son. Our food came out quickly and was piping hot. My quesadilla was fine, but there was so much cheese on it I couldn't taste the chorizo. I dismantled the tortilla and scraped off about 4 ounces of cheese just so I could eat it. I also thought there were supposed to be eggs on it, but I couldn't find any. Maybe they were so mixed in they disappeared. My sister loved hers, and it was smothered in a spicy queso that I ordered a side of for my dish. My son's pancakes were standard, if not a little tough, and the only thing that made them "rainbow" were colorful sprinkles on top. The portions were giant, and we ate most of our meals, so that's saying something, but there was nothing special about it. Pretty standard, good, fare. The service was great - and the server was very nice. There was no indication of how to pay, whether to leave it on the table or go up, but we eventually went to the register. I'm not sure if I'd go back, but it was not a bad experience. When Starliner is up the road and I crave that place 24/7, it's hard to not drive the extra 1/2 mile. A note on their website, which I checked out before going (I usually like to do that). It. Is. TERRIBLE. When are restaurants going to figure out that Flash is NOT a good option for dining sites, especially when people are wanting to get quick info fast? Their menu is incomplete on the site, and OF COURSE cannot be read on an iPhone. (BTW - the people that have iPhones that are looking for restaurants to go to at the last minute will NOT go to restaurants whose sites they cannot read!!!) Please, for the love of all things good, take the Flash off your site and move into the 21st century!

Very good food experience Just driving around the neighborhood of Hilliard and happen to see Louie's Grill so stopped in. I was unaware that they served South American foods, but I am usually game to see what I place has to offer if I have never been. We were seated immediately and helped by our very speedy waitress (she was moving VERY fast, not a problem for me). I went with the breakfast enchilada with egg whites and Plantains. It did not take long for my food to come out and it was hot. The enchilada was served with home fries which did not have much seasoning, but a little ketchup solved that. The enchilada was very good, there was sour cream and lettuce on the side to cool down the chorizo sausage inside. These were all soft texturally so I put in a some of the crunchier home fries with the enchilada, sour cream and lettuce. This gave a dynamite bite! The perfect texture and flavor mix. The plantains were also extremely good, some of the best I have ever had. I will definitely be back again.

I got a fusion chicken sandwich. Cajun spiced grilled chicken breast with pepper jack, lettuce tomato avocado and a spicy ranch. It was really good, and I will be back very soon to try some other things. Highly recommended

I love Louie's and frequently choose to go there over Starliner diner. The owner and wait staff are extremely friendly and personable and they remember you when you come in. My favorites are the fish tacos, plantains and for brunch the sweet potato omelette and veggie breakfast burrito. I've taken many of my friends and family there and they are always impressed.

I really enjoy this place. I haven't had a bad meal yet, but really tend towards their jumbalaya. Its reasonably priced and I can usually make 2-3 meals out of it. I've been there 6-7 times and most of the time we get really great service. Our cups are always full and the food service is prompt.

Small, standard diner type restaurant with decent to pretty good food. Not fine dining, but the ropa vieja I ordered was decent and definitely more authentic Latin American cuisine than any chain.

Great service, good margaritas, and fantastic plantains with special sauce. I enjoyed the Cuban chicken. Breakfast is another treat.

Only made one visit to Louie's Grill. I will NOT be back. I went during the summer and it was hotter inside the place than outside. We commented on this to the waitress and she just shrugged. The food was ok....had better at El Mariachi. I usually like to give places a second chance....but it will be a while if I do here, if ever.

Born and raised in Hilliard and this is always one of my favorites! Decor and atmosphere is nothing special but the food and service has always been great and I've been here MANY times! Chipotle crab chowder is always a must, I literally get it every single time. Always check out the specials menu! It's by the bar hand written on the white board, that's where I seem to get the best stuff. Definitely recommend for a causal meal!

We met friends here last night. It is very similar to the Starliner, although the decor is not nearly as funky. The food was amazing. Everyone loved what they had. From burritos, to tacos to slow cooked Cuban style brisket. Even the grilled pizza bread salad. All amazing. They do have more seating and can handle large parties. I say check it out.

Apparently, Louie was the head chef at Starliner Diner and took his recipes and opened his own restaurant, Louie's Grill. Great mix of Cuban, Mexican, Cajun.

There are such wonderful options here. They have the Cajun Pasta dish that has noodles with chicken, shrimp, and sausage in a cream sauce. It is very flavorful and is my favorite dish they make.

Reading other reviews of this place made me leery... Especially the weird service part. I must have been here on a good day, because my brunch was not too shabby and while the service was very blasé.. I don't think it would deter me from not coming back. The ambiance of the place is very open. There's really no intimate areas to this restaurant, so probably not the best for a date night... let's be honest. However, for Sunday brunch it does the trick. There was plenty of seating despite an atrociously full parking lot. I thought the breakfast here was a hell of a lot better than Starliner, and I made a point to order things close to what we ordered while there. The breakfast quesadilla was on point and not some massive cheese gorge-fest. The potatoes that were served were freakin' amazing. They were cooked to perfection... again, unlike my experiences with Starliner. The husband got the breakfast burrito, but didn't realize they used red sauce on top of it, so it kind of ruined it for him, but we switched plates and both of us ended up pretty happy and content for the most part. I can't speak for lunch or dinner, but what I've seen doesn't look all the terrible, but stranger things have happened. I'll make a point to come back for lunch/dinner to see if my mind changes about this place, but so far Breakfast is where it's at. So, I guess get here early before the servers turn crabby. All in all.. a decent Sunday morning breakfast spot. I would gladly return for the time being.

I ordered a shrimp quesadilla. The shrimp was very undercooked. The nachos we got as an appetizer were decent. This review started as a 3 star review for undercooked food. I sent my entree back. When the waitress brought me the check it showed $47. I questioned the waitress because we had one entree, an appetizer and a kids meal. No way those numbers added to $47. I added them up and they were $24 and change. She then argued with me until she added them up and realized her error. No apology or anything. The food really wasn't anything special. I won't be back.

We stopped by Louie's when Starliner Diner was estimating an hour wait. No thank you! I was actually surprised there weren't more people at Louie's, there were plenty of open tables around noon on a Saturday. The space was open and bright, definitely good for larger groups or kids. Overall the food was good, but nothing mind-blowing. We started with chips, salsa and queso ($4.50), which were all pretty good. Bummer we had to pay for chips but whatever. The salsa was good and had chunks of tomato and onion. Tasted pretty fresh! Bf opted for a burrito, which came with a super tasty salsa verde. Definitely good (and huge for around $9). I went with a small Veracruz salad ($5) and the Chile Rellenos from the appetizer menu ($8). The salad was very refreshing and bright, with lots of tartness coming from the lime vinaigrette and chopped tomatillos. The Chile Rellenos were good, but I was unprepared for the amount of cheese. I couldn't tackle both of them. I'm not a huge fan of smoky sauces (which this came with) but that's me, not them. Luckily we had a $5 off coupon from the Entertainment book, so we cashed that bad boy in. Overall an enjoyable casual and quick lunch, may stop back in if we're ever in the area but I doubt we'll ever go out of our way.

My wife and I get into arguments over whether to go to Louie's or Starliner Diner, but Louie's wins more often mostly based on convenience. They lack the kitchy cool interior and sometimes I'm just jonesing for the Creole Mac that I can only get at Starliner, but Louie's has them beat on size, cleanliness, parking, and patio seating. The food is generally about equal. Ropa Vieja is my go-to dish and it is always excellent. Almost every time the inlaws are in town, we go here for brunch and it never disappoints. From omelets to chilaquilles to hash, everything gets praised. Definitely, this is a place you should check out if you like good cuban food.

Was a nice wrong turn! We were heading to the Rusty Bucket but given the one way entrance- we missed the turn- needless to say we ended up here- and what a great surprise- no wait on a Friday at 7... I got the chicken fusion sandwich and it was literally a perfect combination of flavor not to mention the unique sweet potato fries on the side!!! The chicken was juicy and had a great mesquite flavor. My husband got the fajitas with chicken steak and shrimp and they didn't skimp- also- a rare feature these days... It actually came out sizzling! We will definitely be going back as there are several different options on the menu to pick from! Worth a try for a unique surprise!!!

This place is supposed to be owned by the same folks as the starliner diner. I see very few similarities. I've been here probably a dozen times - food is almost always cold. Last time the cook put our food up, rang the bell, and the waitress continued her conversation with a friend who had stopped in for a chat. Five minutes later I had to ask her to go get our food. Guess what - it was cold. I don't care what the wait time is at the starliner - STAY THERE!

Chipotle Crab Chowder and Plantains are the two reasons to come here. I have been here numerous times and enjoy those two menu items the most. I tried a Cuban and my wife tries the Fusion Chicken and we both were very pleased with our meals. I would order this meal to go again. The to Go service was pretty quick for a Friday night as the food was ready in 15 minutes. I have eaten inside a few times too and I have liked it. I do remember that the service wasn't quite so quick inside on all occasions but that could be true of many places. We have ordered a few things here that I would not order like the Mofango Chicken which is very dry. That is the one I would say was the most memorable let down for me but I know one or two other things were a let down too. They have a decent brunch/breakfast to hit up if Starliner is packed. This place is almost never full so you can get in and get out faster than other restaurants as long as service is on its game. I have noticed that they are very strict with their coupon policy as they use to have a BOGO then in the middle of the year they switched it to only $7 off. Even though the coupon did not have the same limit on it and it was for the whole year. So I can see where other reliable Yelpers have complained about service could be true.

A day later and I am still furious about this place! Outside it looks nice, inside more like a cafeteria with no thought or love put into it. Our waitress was nice and saved me from totally losing my cool but the "manager" a total b*tch! I ordered the Louis salad and my husband the bacon cheeseburger. My salad was not a salad at all, it was sauteed veggies, thats it! I tried it and while it was nice totally disgusting, it was not a salad, it was a fajita without a shell and not what I wanted. I brought ot back to the kitchen and said I was expecting a salad and got into a huge discussion being told it was indeed a salad. I ordered the Veracruz and when they brought it out to me they said I would still have to pay the $9 for the first salad. Then it was on! I couldn't help but get loud, I refuse to pay for something I took one bite out of and sent back so I told them I didn't want the second salad, they told me now its made I will pay for both. Finally when the "manager" left our waitress said not to worry, to enjoy my salad and I would be charged only one salad. The veracruz was extreamly tiny, very sour and not a meal at all, it was simply lettuce, one strip of avocado and a ton of lime juice. Then on our bill was the $9 for the salad I didn't eat instead of the $7 for the salad I did eat. She told me she couldn't change it and that I should be happy I wasn't charged for both. Then We sked them to break a bill for us and she kept the change. We asked for change and she calculated her own tip and gave us change. So we asked for the tip back as well and left extreamly aggravated, what a horrible dinner, I really hope they close down, I saw them try to rip all the tables around us off by asking if they wanted chips and salsa, and only one couple caught on and asked if it was free, nope the rest of the patrons would be charged $2.75 for each bowl they get. Greedy bastards!

I've been here twice and the food was delicious both times. Especially the ground beef nachos. The service is pretty attentive as my drink never got low and my order was taken quickly, however my fiancé asked for no tomatoes on her salad and it was brought with tomatoes, might have been a language barrier with the waitress.

I should have known, I really should have known better. The mere word fusion frightens me but over the years I have had many pleasant experiences in restaurants where they truly fuse various cuisines to come up with something really unique. This experience was fusion at the opposite end of that spectrum. Fusion at Louie's means trying to offer a variety of dishes from each of their 4 acclaimed specialties - Mexican, Cuban, Italian and Puerto Rican. Oh and while we're add it let's add in some burgers just in case the other 4 cuisines don't strike a fancy. I stuck with a Mexican'ish theme based on Mexican having more offerings on the menu. I ordered the stuffed poblanos with chipotle sauce. No discernible chipotle flavoring in the sauce and the peppers themselves seemed to have an obvious pre-frozen flavor to the breading. I'm not claiming that they ARE frozen, just saying that they tasted that way to me. The first plate came out raw in the middle and I had to send it back. Contrary to other reviews, I had excellent service. They were prompt, polite, even genuinely friendly and very apologetic over the first plate being undercooked. The atmosphere was pleasant, if somewhat sterile - but clean. I guess based on the references to cross-pollination between the Starliner and Louie's I was expecting something a bit more eclectic. I wish the owners and the staff well because they were so friendly but they really need to figure out what they want to be when they grow up.

Sorry, but I have one recommendation for any prospective or current business owner: "the customer is always right." When we received a chimi that had shrimp in it instead of chicken we promptly sent it back. A few minutes later, our server came back and proceeded to tear open the chimi, poke around with her fork, and show us that it was indeed chicken! I know what I ate and I know that it was shrimp, whether it was inadvertently put there or not is irrelevant. There was no need to humiliate a first time customer (she knew this because she asked us earlier) by eviscerating their food in front of them and trying to prove them wrong. Now that I have that off my chest, we should move on to the food. The one shining star of the meal was the fried plantains and whatever the dipping sauce was. They were excellent. Second on the list was the chicken quesadilla which was plump and tasty. The "fusion chicken" sandwich was as my friend put it "just a chicken sandwich." Nothing special going on here. The two kids meals were definitely not "made from scratch" as the waitress suggested all the food is. My "eats anything" kid couldn't finish her spaghetti. Alas all things must end, and at the end of this sad story was a case of sticker shock. The server didn't charge us for the chimi and the bill still came out to over sixty dollars (what?!). Sixty dollars for 3 adults and two children is, in my opinion, quite a stretch for a place like this. We didn't drink any alcohol and one person only had water. We were charged for some extra fries that I told her we didn't want. In conclusion, I live 5 minutes from here and drive by here almost every day. I am sad that I have no desire to visit and support this local business again.

This is my old standby! I have eaten here 40 plus times and have had work related catered events about 10 times. This is one of the ONLY places in the 270/Cemetery Rd Mill Run area that has fresh, delicious food! I highly recommend the Vera Cruz Salad with chicken on top for a healthy, fantastic lunch. The lettuce is fresh and green, topped with avocado, tomatillos, tomatoes, and cucumbers. The lime vinaigrette is made in house. Try the authentic Cuban Sandwich too. It is layered with thick slices of pork and ham (not cold cuts). Don't forget the sweet plantains! This is a small business and family owned and operated. I think this is a hidden gem on the west side.

A solid, slightly upscale Mexican place. Fusion? Okay, fine. But mainly Mexican, and it has a few other things on the menu. I had the chipotle crab chowder; a pretty big portion for a cup, and a fine chowder though I didn't get much heat from it. Followed with the Louie burger. I expected a blend of hamburg and chorizo, but the sausage was actually a little layer on top. Fine, but not amazing. The burger overall was solid, and though a bit smaller than a Thurman one, a good meal. Service was... slow, considering how empty the place was, but friendly. Definitely worth trying again, but nothing to cross town for.

I'm convinced that good things come in strip malls. Another case-and-point at Louie's Grill. My lunch counterparts and I planned to hit up Starliner Diner, but alas, it's closed on Mondays. Instead we moseyed over to Louie's where we found the most delightful fusion of Mexican/American/something else equally as delicious. The dining room is wide open with diner-esque style seating. No fancy pants chairs or tables here. Service was wonderful and the waitress gleefully led us through the menu and offered her suggestions; which also included the daily specials etched on the dry erase board hung on the center pillar. Louie's has been open for a little over a year, according to our waitress, and even has a live piano player providing music for diners on Wednesday nights! Killer open patio with 'serene' views of Cemetery Rd., too. I ordered the soup special, a creamy Jalepeno, and the Veracruz Salad. Can we say unique and delicous!? I devoured every bite. The soup had cornmeal texture, which I LOVED, and the salad was tossed in a light and tasty vinaigrette. Yum! Put another point on the board for strip mall gems!

I wanted to like it, heard there was a (former) tie to Starliner, so decided to give it a shot. It was passable, but not exiciting. I had the grouper, and, to be honest, I've had better fish on US Airways. The beer was cold and the chips and salsa were good to very good. In the end, maybe I made the wrong menu choice, but all I can muster is 2 stars.

Last Friday for lunch I visited Louie's Grill in Hilliard. Louie's is built out of a small end portion of a strip center and has OK visibility from Cemetary Rd. There is a patio in the front yard and the entrance is in the back. Upon entering the restaurant around 12:30PM I was fairly quickly greeted by my soon-to-be server and was seated at a booth by myself. The interior reminded me of a cafeteria or plain diner, with carpeting and a bar with one television. The specials were written on a board next to the bar. On the menu, these specials were not mentioned, but then I noticed they were just regular parts of the menu. About four other tables were present in the fairly open large dining room. I started off with an iced tea and soon ordered a cup of chipotle crab chowder. The chowder soon arrived at my table. It appeared to be more of a bowl and I dug in. A creamy rich broth was surrounded by potatoes, celery, and onion and a hint of chipotle and real crab meat. There were no chunks of crab and the chipotle was not too spicy. A very hearty and tasty soup. After perusing the menu I ended up ordering fish tacos grilled. A few minutes later it arrived. I was given three corn tortillas filled with lettuce, red onion, a melted white cheese, grilled Tilapia and something that appeared to be a thin sour cream. On the side black beans over white rice finished off the plate. Upon eating the tacos I noticed that the Tilapia had a somewhat cajun seasoning on it and were a little salty. Some fresh cilantro and homemade salsa would have been a good addition. The dish was just OK. All-in-all I give my experience three stars. No lunch menu and the items added up for me. $2.25 for iced tea, $4.50 for chowder, and $9.99 for tacos, $21 with tip. Never offered any chips (which I didn't need anyway) and it was a little warm inside the dining room with the outside doors open. Good service, OK food, just an average overall experience. Nothing bad enough to send back, nothing good enough to really rave about.

I'm still not sure yet about this place. I've eaten there twice. So far, I've not been blown away. The staff seems nice enough, minus the lady who sat our table the other night, she seemed to maybe have something stuck in the back of her head and figured she'd look at it a few times. (Eye rolling when she found out there was about 5 or 7 of us). The food honestly I have had better. The first time I got a chicken chimi, it was decent. I split it with my friend and he also enjoyed it. The nachos are decent, and the chicken wings are good. The plantains are also pretty good. I ordered a cuban sandwich the next time though, blah. I do not like it. Bland, boring, and just blah. I can't come up with a proper description of how disappointed I was. I have had some really wonderful cuban sandwiches in my lifetime but this was not one of them. The fries were decent though. My friend got the fiesta chicken sandwich, i tried it, it was decent but not like WOW! but I would've traded him gladly from what I had. Will I return? Maybe for a burrito if the place up the street isn't open and I'm having a craving.

The owner/cook came from the Starliner Diner to start off on his own. I was excited to hear this, but after 3 visits, I was very disappointed. Trying to make it his own, he basically took menu item from the Starliner, and added different spices and ingredients, that end up not balancing out. I like Cuban food, and have a very open mind when it comes to fusion, but this place misses the mark all together...I wont be going back. Also, it just so happens, his family moved across the street from us, and have had nothing but trouble from them. They are not good neighbors...rude, inconsiderate, being outside very late at night, drinking, and being very loud. The police have been called at least twice on them. I know this has nothing to do with the restaurant technically, but it may show some character references that some might like to know, before spending money at their establishment.

I was hoping for an excellent meal at Louie's fusion Grill. I did not eat good food or drinks. The food was not good period. The first time went I took a group of people to try. I can tell you that the Margaritas there might be the sweetest worst authentic tasting drink in Columbus. I wonder if they are putting orange juice in them. The best thing we had were the fried plantains. I had the overpriced fajitas, people in the group ate shrimp dish, and jambalaya. The service was very poor and the food took forever. When you have a two year old child you kinda want to get in and out. To top it off they would not accept my Groupon off of my telephone. I did not lean my lesson the first time and went back. The main reason is that I spent money on two Groupons. Shame on me for taking another group to this place. The food again was just not good. I had the Cuban sandwich thinking it was a no brainer, it was no good. The bread seemed stale and I was hoping for some pickle on the sandwich. The flavor was very bland. The rest of the group was wondering why I had brought them there... I told them because I was foolish enough to buy the Groupon. We did have one outstanding women working on staff. Now I have on unused Groupon and I will be heading back. I hope they can impress me this time so I can log back in and change my review. Currently I would not waste your time or money at this establishment.

A very disappointing experience. The drinks were unbelievably weak - I had three margaritas and they did nothing for me. The chips and salsa cost 2.79 when most places give them to you free. It wasn't even a chipotle level salsa but just pureed tomatoes with vinegar, cilantro and onion. I used a groupon but my bill was higher than expected. The waitress said that groupon is not good for alcohol. I asked if that was on the terms of groupon i used and asked to see it. she said no it is not listed as an exclusion on my grouppn but it is on the groupon website. I went to the website and it explicitly states drinks are discounted! She was either incompetent or lied to me. After reading how they have treated other coupon customers I suspect they are going under and trying to hang on. Not worth mentioning the dinner... Dry overpriced chicken.

My husband and I decided to try Louie's last weekend. It's not far from our house and we wanted something new. I have to say, I was impressed! The decor is nothing fancy, but it has a nice, diner feel. They also have a full bar, which I did not expect. It was a weekend afternoon, but the restaurant was fairly empty. We were greeted promptly and chose a booth by the window. The servers were all very friendly, even offering suggesstions when we said it was our first visit. We started with chips and salsa. The salsa was very fresh tasting and we ate it pretty quickly! I chose the Ropa Vieja- one of their "most popular" choices according to the server. It's a cuban shredded brisket meal with beef, onions, peppers, black beans, rice and tortillas. It also comes with a few fried plantains, which were sweet and delicious. My husband had the Louie burger, which had chorizo and a guacamole spread and came with fries. The fries were standard, but hot and tasty. The burger was yummy and you could really tase the chorizo. I can't wait to go back and try some other dishes. I'm also going to stop back and try their breakfast one day!

Louie's Grill is a spin-off of Starliner Diner (also in Hilliard), so if you like SD, you'll probably enjoy Louie's. And vise versa. Definitely a connection in the taste. Got the Ropa Viejas, a reliable Cuban shredded beef dish. The service was nice and the waitress catered to the fact that our group has one more person coming and kept that plate warm. There is a surprise live keyboard player as you walk in from the back.

When Louie says "fusion", he really means it. Louie's is certainly a mixed bag of American, Southwestern, Cuban, Mexican, and even a little Mediterranean fare. It all melds together though into a great menu which has something for everyone. As others have commented, the dining room is no frills. It's quite large, with plenty of seating. Service was great. The staff is courteous and will provide samples if you ask them. As I mentioned, the menu has tons of variety. Their are usually at least a half dozen daily specials as well. For appetizers, I recommend any of their soups (crab bisque, chili, and the awesome Creamy Jalapeno soup are all recommended). Also, try the fried plantains which are made to perfection...no sogginess here! Prices are reasonable, figure about $10-15 a person. Entrees have generous portions and often include a side of rice and black beans. You certainly won't leave hungry. Others have said Louie's is a step below Starliner, which I find hard to argue with, but it's a small step. When Starliner is packed I don't hesitate to drive down the road to Louie's.

Very similar to Starliner (LouiE's is run by two brothers from the same family that runs Starliner), but something in the Starliner magic was lost in the attempt to upscale the fare. The food isn't bad, but there's always something that it seems to be missing with the slightly higher prices. It's not a bad place, and if Starliner wasn't there I'd probably be over the moon for it, but I can't help but wonder if they'd be better if they were a bit farther away from their sister restaurant.

I loved that our waitress addressed us as Amigos! Made the long haul out to Hillard to give this place a try since Cuco's is closed on Sunday's and I wanted a mexicaney breakfast. First off, I thought it was strange that you had to turn down a street to get to the parking lot behind the restaurant and the back door was the front door. Anyway, it was a pretty large place and me and my boyfriend got the last of the booths that morning. We were greeted warmly by the host (maybe the owner) and then our waitress. She was sweet and did a good job, only one small miscommunication due to a language barrier that was quicly remedied. They were quick to refill coffees which is always nice. The menu wasn't extensive, but covered all the bases. I got the mexican breakfast burrita and he got the huevos rancheros. Both looked great. Mine came with well cooked hashbrowns. My burrito wasn't as flavorful as I would have liked it, but it was good a filling. I always expect so much flavor from chorizo, but I'm learning that some forms can be rather mild. So the vegetables in the monster burrito were cooked perfectly, not too soft, not too mushy, and it had corn, which i am totally into. I did not like either hot sauce they offered on the table. Both tasted funny to me (I can't remeber the brand) But, if you can, bring a bottle of Tapatio from home. That'd be perfect! Over all a good breakfast, but just not a WOW breakfast. My boyfriend enjoyed his rancheros, but also decided on 3 stars for his dish. I like Louie's alot and I will go again once they open in Upper Arlington (in the old Zuppas at Northwest and Zollinger), but I don't think it's worth the drive out to Hilliard again. Know what I mean??

From the outside you would never guess this is a Mex/Cuban place. Its more of a sports bar that anything else. the food and service was average. nothing to brag about.

My wife and I have driven by Louie's a hundred times and always said we should check it out. I have to be honest, I'm reluctant to try things that are located in strip malls but after this experience I should be more open. We arrived around 8:30 on Saturday and was pleasantly surprised that they were not busy. At first this concerned me about what I was in store for as I am usually expecting long waits for anywhere decent on a Saturday night. We started with an order of the Fried Plantains. They were good but could have been a bit warmer. My wife had the fusion pasta and I had the Southwest Linguini. Everything came out very quickly and was absolutely delicious! My only issue with my meal was the peppers could have been cooked just a little longer. My wife was full about half way through her meal which is awesome because that is what I get to have for lunch on Sunday! This was a very pleasant surprise and I can't wait to go back to try some of the menu items that I passed on this time! We may even hit Louie's II in Upper Arlington for lunch sometime soon!

In general, I've always found fusion restaurants to be overpriced and underwhelming. Perhaps it's because I can't quite appreciate the artistry it would take to blend food and tastes from a number of different culinary cultures--unlikely--or far more likely, it's because by attempting to combine different styles, what is served ends up falling between two culinary barstools. (Apologies for metaphor) Went to LouiE's today because I've been hankering after a cubano sandwich. The experience was fine, as the waitstaff were decently attentive and kind. However, the food was not quite up to snuff. My Media Noche Sandwich--essentially a cubano-style sandwich--came with fried plantains and a sauce that appeared to be a cream-based pico de gallo. The plantains were quite good, but appeared to have been dipped in too much syrup before fried. A combination of lighter frying/lighter syrup would have been helpful. As for the sandwich, it was disappointing. First of all, the pork loin was dry and in two thin layers. I would've preferred a thicker cut, moist, and with some garlic seasoning. Moreover, I couldn't taste the mustard and the cheese was American, not pepperjack as specified on the menu. Finally, the bread was a touch too thin, though this wasn't a huge problem. Overall, my feelings were mixed. LouiE's could be great for groups of 6-10 friends, but if their other dishes are as underwhelming as my sandwich experience, I'll be rather sceptical about going back there again.

We've been going to Louie's for a few years now and have always loved the food there. Prices can be a bit high but they do give you a good portion. Their burritos and pastas are very good, the fried plantains are good as well.

LouiE's has a new menu, which worried me at first. I am a devoted fan of certain menu items...like the Southwest Linguini...and would have been disappointed if I couldn't get them any more. Lucky for me. All of my old favorites are still on there. Thus reassured, I was able to venture away from the SW linguini and try some new things. Last week was the LouiE burger. It has the addition of chorizo and pepper jack cheese to an already good burger. I am a firm believer that chorizo makes everything better...and I was right! Delish! They let me substitute the house salad for the fries. Definitely a fan of the dressing...sort of a "ranchish with salsa" thing going on... and it looked and tasted very fresh. This week I tried the Caliente chicken. (Hope I spelled that right.) This is a pasta dish and boy did it pack some heat! It was very tasty and filling, but unable to top my other favorite pasta dishes. If I had to rank them, it would be: *1* Southwest Linguini; 2 Fusion Pasta 3 Creole Pasta and 4 Caliente chicken. Would you believe that not everybody agrees with me??? My 17 year old son rotates between the Creole Pasta and chicken burrrito. CANNOT believe his lack of discernment. This totally disregards the "chorizo makes everything better" rule. But you know what they say, "different plates for different palates". Well, we say it at my house. As usual, the plantains were wonderful...fried perfectly. I'm already planning my next meal there. Think it will be either the pizzabread salad or the fish tacos.

I was taken by my gf's family, but I would never go again, especially if I was paying. -The mexican music was annoying, not atmospheric like at places like El Vaquero. -The service was poor; the lady forgot many things, and the wait for our food was awfully long given the little we ordered and the small crowd eating there. -The food wasn't nearly up to par with other mex or texmex places i've eaten at. To be honest, I got a Louie Burger and it tasted like a bad combination between hamburger and sloppy joes; and the fries were old. Oh, and not to be a negative nancy, but the salsa tasted like they put more cilantro and vinegar in it than tomatoes lol worst salsa i've had since i made my own and put too many habeneros in it. -Don't get me started on prices....happy hour wasn't applied for drinks and apps, they double charged for a refill on the salsa and chips (really?) and the bill was just outrageous for what little we got. I will not return, and I wouldn't suggest so for any newcomers to the place. Unless you like nasty food and bad service.

The food is usually good but the people that run the place are some of the greediest restaurant proprietors ever. OK.. first off they have an entertainment coupon for buy one get one, up to 7 dollars off. Ok fine but then they have a small sign in the entry way that says it is now reduced to 4 dollars. On top of that, they force you to order at least one entree from the most expensive section (during lunch) before they will honor it and you can't order from the specials even they aren't on the menu at full price. So are they really specials to begin with? Oh and forget about substituting anything they will up-charge you any chance they get. I wanted to trade my black beans and rice for just a side of veggies and she wanted to argue about that and charge me more. Forget it! I WILL NOT GO BACK.

Had breakfast here this morning. Sat at bar. After several minutes, I got up and helped myself to a menu. Waitress finally noticed me. I think the only choices were written on the chalk board - but later I saw a breakfast menu that had lots of choices??? Ordered country omlette, and a "OJ". Waitress did not know what "OJ" was. Omlette came with suasage gravy on top and a muffin in the middle - wish the description would have included this - I would have ordered something else. Waitress finally brought the OJ when I was 3/4 done with the omlette - she said she was busy, but the place was only 1/4 full. VERY DISSAPOINTED!!!

This place is phenominal. Great food! Good prices! Great staff! BETTER THAN STARLINER. As people have stated it's similar to Starliner Diner. There are a few differences between LouiE's and Starliner, though: The wait staff is much friendlier at LouiE's (Starliner's wait staff generally consists of angsty teenagers that in my experience aren't very attentive), the prices are lower at LouiE's, and most importantly, LOUIE'S IS MUCH CLEANER THAN STARLINER. I work at a nearby company and everyone I know from work stopped going to Starliner because STARLINER HAS FLIES IN IT, EVEN IN THE MIDDLE OF WINTER! (That means starliner is actually breeding and sustaining flies) The staff at LouiE's remember me everytime I go in, no matter how long it's been between visits. I order take out a lot and the order is always correct, and it's done in under 10 minutes. As long as LouiE's exists, I will never go to Starliner. Starliner is dirty and nasty and anyone with the good sense to actually look around their restaurant will notice their disgusting carpets and flies buzzing about.

We went here because I was told it was the same food as the Starliner Diner as the cook was the same. The Starliner was closed so we tried this place. The service was not good! When we asked for water our waitress left and disappeared forgetting all about our request. That happened more than one time that the waitress forgot to come back. I was not impressed with the food either. The restaurant looks kind of like a cafeteria with large rectangular tables around just in a big room with a counter and bar right there. Not impressed!

Delicious. Very happy we found a new restaurant. Went on a Saturday afternoon...service was great. They let our kids order from the breakfast menu even though we were beyond breakfast hours. Our meals were wonderful and we can't wait to go back again.

I recently went back with my in-laws and nieces. We sat on the patio. I had the most amazing soup -- I think it was a crab bisque -- it was out of this world. I also had the steak salad, which was fantastic. I have upped my rating because of my recent experience. And once again the prices were fantastic.

When I heard Louie's was opened by a long time chef at the Starliner, I was excited, however, after 3 visits, Im let down. It seems he tried to put his own flair on the dishes, but the resultsare are horrible. A mixing of spices that dont go together, dishes that are just mushed together and resemble dog food. Add that with smallish portions, and you get a culinary nightmare. You should pass on this place...just keep going down the road another mile, and hit the Starliner.

I've visited the restaurant twice since moving to Hilliard a few months ago. Each time, the food has been phenomenal. The burritos are amazing-extremely flavorful and more food than I can eat in one sitting. There's a live band on Wednesday nights, which makes the atmosphere fun. Its a great place to drink margaritas and catch up with friends.

Second trip was horrible. I was seated by a woman who could barely speak english. I ordered the shredded beef chimichanga for 11.99....it was flavorless and the red sauce on the outside was almost unedible. I gummed it down with the white rice overed in black beans. They were bland and needed a dose of salt and pepper and yet still tasted flavorless. My son's kids spaghetti tasted better than my food and this is supposed to be a mexican restaurant. I will never go back to this place. If i have a need to eat mexican food again in Hilliard I will go to Fiesta Mariachi on Main st. Its cheaper prices, free chips and salsa unlike here were its tacked on your bill and it is better quality on every dish. So avoid this place at all costs. And im saying this when i used a groupon on this dinner and the final bill was 37 dollars....so with my 20 dollar groupon it was 17 dollars i paid,. And yet it still was sub par and wasnt worth 17 dollars......Taco Bell would be a better choice than this place.

6 Months and unfortunately, I believe they will be gone. I heard several people say how good the food was so my family and I decided to check it out. To say that we were disappointed is an understatement. Now, mind you we didn't have any true mexican dishes because we asked our server what she recommended and she said the burgers and pasta dishes. My wife and I both had burgers. They weren't awful, just nothing special. One of our kids got the kids macaroni. It tasted like the macaroni from Aldi's (which is located behind the restaurant). Our other child had two pancakes which had the taste of tostitos. All in all, our food was not awful as I said, but it was nothing special and there was absolutely nothing to bring me back. The clincher was that our meal was $35.00 for 2 burgers, fries, pancakes and macaroni. The food was WAY overpriced and nothing special. I still give them 6 months until LouiE's comes to an end.

I just had to submit my opinion after reading the last review. this place has great food and nice people. Unless I have an awful experience I always like to give a place another chance. Not the case here though, I've had great food and service the three times I've been there (I tried their burger the last time I was there and it was one of the best I've had in a while!). As a business owner I know it can take a little time to iron out the kinks. Until you open your own be a little lenient on the new businesses as long as they seem to be doing their best. I hope these folks experience much success because they seem like geniunely nice people and they DO have great food. I also want them to stick around so I can continue my patronage...

I feel bad panning a local independent restaurant, which my husband and I like to support, but this one just isn't worth your time and money. I was excited to see many interesting dishes that seemed like Starliner Diner fare on the menu and hoped that it would at least be as good, but LouiE's Grill didn't make the cut. In a location where the last two or three restaurants have gone under in just a couple months, LouiE's might not last long either unless they pull thing together. Despite being a slow weekday night with only two or three other parties in the restaurant, our table had rice on it when we arrived, which is not usually the best way to start off a meal. The service was very slow and at many times there wasn't a staff member in sight to wave over if you needed something. The food we ate was okay, and my husband liked the ropa vieja, but I thought it was missing something acidic to brighten the taste and tried to wait patiently until we could get some lemon before eating. The sweet potato fries and plantains were not as good as Starliner, with too little flavour in the sweet potatoes and a somewhat unripe taste to the plantains. While there is a chance that this is not related to the restaurant's food, my stomach was sour for about the first half of the next day- not an enjoyable experience. Overall, I thought it was expensive ($25 for a shared appetizer and entree, no drinks) for what we got. In the end, I'd rather wait for a table at Starliner or go for a different type of food.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
