I've got to raise my rating an extra star for Chef's house. If you're searching for breakfast in Hilliard, then this is your spot. Once again I got suckered into my usually 'Breakfast Pita' or Breakfast Gyro and it was pretty filling and had me going 'Mmmmm.' What bumped it up for me is their unusually cooked style of hashbrowns. They were't the typical out of the bag shredded/grated potatoes so many places and chains use. You could tell they prepped them in-house. Service was prompt and the food came out hot and in a timely manner. The tab was fairly cheap and around average, but cheaper than a trip a Bob Evans. File this under a good, cheap place for breakfast in Hilliard.

I'd been living in Hilliard for well over a year before I somewhat nervously decided to check out Chef's House. From the outside, it really does not look anything special at all. Even when you venture inside, it still doesn't look very appealing. But this place just proves you can't judge a book by its cover. CH offers predictable diner fare, but also a few Greek-inspired additions such as gyro sandwiches and salads. The star attraction, however, is their breakfasts which are EXCELLENT value for money. The gut-busting Big Man breakfast (NOT for the faint-hearted) is outstanding, and will keep you going all day. The omelettes are hearty and filling (if rather greasy) and the crispy homefries are fantastic too. The coffee isn't the greatest but it's hot, fresh and refills are prompt. The service is outstanding - the owner's kids work there, and are so friendly. With a lick of paint, some nice pictures and printed (not hand-written) notices and signs, CH would be much more appealing. But I guess who really cares when the food is so good?

I've only ever been here for lunch, but from what I've heard, breakfast is what they're known for. I found this place after getting sick of all the chains on Hilliard-Rome Rd. It is definitely a family restaurant. The food won't knock your socks off (standard diner fare), but it's pretty good. Reminds me of a home-cooked meal. I don't make it here as much as I used to, but when I do, I'm never disappointed. The staff is friendly and when they're not crowded, the food is served quickly. They have daily specials and the food is reasonably priced. If you're sick of chain restaurants, give this little diner a shot.

Stay away from this place if you have a food allergy!!!!! After telling the waitress twice I have a severe food allergy she served me a traditional gyro and within ten minutes I have to use my epi pen and be rushed to the hospital I was going through anaphaxis. When I called this morning to speak with the manager I was told they were to busy and I spoke with the owner son. He didnt seem shocked this happened. This place is not safe for people with food allergies. I watched the owner cut a cake with nuts on it then cut a sandwich with the same knife.

This diner is very close to my house but this was only my third time eating here. The first was many years ago, for lunch, I think. No real memory of the food. The second time was about a month ago and I got the fish 'n chips special (I think it was a Friday night). The fish was terribly overcooked and the fries were forgettable frozen. The service was fine. The owner lady who runs the register was confused by the 10% off Yelp check-in coupon. She got another woman to help. The third time was yesterday morning for breakfast. Another diner in town was very busy and we didn't want to wait so we stopped here and although it was full, we only had to wait a few minutes for a table to be cleaned off. My breakfast was very good. They apparently like to serve "double-yolk" eggs because it is on the menu a few times. I had eggs, home fries, bacon (which I removed from the plate for my husband and granddaughter to eat), and french toast. Our server was sweet and very efficient. My husband warned me not to bother with the 10% Yelp check-in offer (which popped up again) because it wasn't worth the hassle. :-) I think I would return for a good, traditional breakfast.

Well, I have only been here once and I can tell you that the biscuits and gravy were an abomination. There was something just "wrong" with the biscuits like they were microwaved or from a can or something. The gravy tasted like salt water mixed with flour and its pretty obvious they didn't use fresh crumbled sausage. My wife's breakfast wrap was "OK" and the potatoes were edible, so there is that. Saving graces were that it was overall clean and had a bit of that dive-y charm to it. Service was good enough. Don't think I will be back here for a second chance though.

This is a nice little joint for breakfast. They "specialize" in double yolked eggs - which is the best part IMO. The corned beef hash is special and very good. Our waiter was attentive and friendly. The only complaint was that the coffee was a little weak.

I have been going to this place for 14 years. I grew up with my Grandmother slicing whole potatoes into a cast iron frying pan for breakfast and the Chef House breakfast potatoes are every bit as good. If you like sausage links look no further for the best I have EVER had and go back specifically for them. All eggs are double yolk and always cooked to order. I had lunch there a few times and the cheeseburger was great, fries were crispy and hot. Nothing not to like here.

I don't know if the Chef's house has always been lacking or this bad. I'd like to think not. However I have no basis for this hope. The place was opened in 1989 by a Greek family, however the menu is anything but Greek. That's not the problem. Who is not a fan of breakfast, and American brunches?. Other reviews talk about great food. I haven't seen it here. Lets say I picked the bad food. For whatever its worth, I used to be a Hilliard resident so naturally I gave it a shot. I ordered the $12 steak entree which looked like a cheap wal-mart cut for a buck fifty. It was so thin and chewy with a fat bubble towards the edge, a sign of not so good quality of meat. I ordered it medium but it came rare or more like undercooked. Actually it was so bloody I'd describe it as uncooked. They put it back on the grill and came out well done. The problem is it's too thin there's no such thing as medium option. It's either raw or burned. The service was also lacking and the whole place had one waitress who did not seem to be in a hurry. I was not convinced that it was this terrible so thought to give it another shot on a weekend brunch. Walked into the restaurant at 1:40PM (sign says it closes at 2PM) and they refused to seat me saying that they're now closed (20 mins before actual closing time). Patrons were still seated eating. I was not mad or anything. i simply thanked them and walked out.... So there goes their opportunity to be redeemed. I like supporting local independent shops and mom and pop businesses but Chef's House needs to brush up their Chef's cooking skills.

When you watch travel shows there are always these unique places that makes a great meal that makes you wish you had a grandparent who could cook like this. Chef House is like this and provide a really wonderful menu along with crave-able daily specials. Not only is the food great but the staff who works there is friendly and attentive. Comfort food is a wonderful thing.

I've been to the Chef's House many times since I grew up here in the Hilliard area. Most of the times that I've eaten here have been for breakfast. The omelets are good and worth the money. I've stopped in a few times for lunch and dinner, but the food doesnt seem to be that good at that time of day. The atmosphere is somewhat ok - I didnt expect it to be too fancy, but it was kind of a homey feeling. I would definitely recommend this place for breakfast only.

Awesome place to grab breakfast or a burger! Love the mom and pop places! I've been here three times now and had nothing but great service. The bacon burger is really good! My fav is breakfast, fluffy pancakes, eggs bacon and hashbrowns!! You can't go wrong!

After a long day at the Columbus zoo, We were looking for something different To Eat. We saw this place and decided to give it a try. We are very glad we did. Amazing food, everyone in our party complimented how good the food was. All the entrees came out HOT and were delicious! Highly recommended!

I'm not sure how this place has so many five stars? I guess compared to a frozen meal or an MRE it might be good. This is the only place I've been served sausage gravy that had the consistency of chicken noodle soup. Obviously food standards are very low these days.

Stepping into this place with its wood paneling surrounding a sea of booths is like stepping back in time. Right now I'm giving it a four with the perfectly cooked Liver and Onions I got. YES! I order liver. Many places (if you're lucky to find it) can't cook it right. Chef's was soft and buttery. Great mashed potatoes and gravy too. One friend had breakfast-perfectly cooked over-easy eggs. Another a Greek Salad. The small was pretty big. They have a dessert case and I THINK it's full of Just Pies slices, with a few other desserts mixed in. I did not indulge for I hopped across the street to Crumbz Cakery and got a cupcake. This hidden Hilliard gem with it's extensive menu and friendly staff is definitely worth checking out.

My visit here this morning with my gf was a bad experience, food was luke warm, took about 45 minutes for our breakfast to get to the table. We were both starving, so we ate it, but it would have been a 2 star visit, but my gf was being blinded by the sun, so she asked the waitress to close the blinds a bit. Waitress goes over to the blinds, looks at it puzzled and leaves, never shut them. Needless to say, we wont be spending our $ here again.

We waited one hour for a Reuben and a hot open faced roast beef sandwich. We watched nearly every table turn and waited and waited. Complained to the manager and he did nothing. No discount. No comp dessert. Just said they made it from scratch. A roast beef? Really? Tasted good but not worth the wait and the management needs to learn how to delight customers.

our family enjoys eating here for breakfast (although their lunch is good, too). staff is friendly and the food is tasty. my favorite dish is the breakfast gyro. the only thing I would change is their coffee; it tends to be on the weak side.

Went here on a snowy winter night, ok more like freezing I hate Ohio night but still. Got the cheesy breadstick appetizer which seemed more like those round breadsticks you get at Olive Garden with some melted cheese on them, definitely not worth the $6 price. I got a cup of chili and the gyro salad, the salad was really good. I would definitely get that again. He got a chicken dinner which was also quite tasty. Overall, not bad, the breakfast menu looked really good so we will for sure be back for that and probably lunch.

I slept in this morning and was once again on the prowl for a place that did breakfast after noon. I found Chef's House online and called only to find out that they serve breakfast all day! Elated, but lazy, I drove over about an hour later. The restaurant is located inside of a strip mall at the corner of Hilliard-Rome Road and Roberts Road. It is actually well marked and very easy to find. The interior is interesting, almost like a talentless interior designer came in and tried to make the place classy. Even still, they had plenty of tables and the server got me the seat of my choice. The menu must have been designed by the same designer because it too was poorly done. All I am saying is if you are a diner, it is OK to act like one. Anyway, skip opening the menu and just turn it over because that is where all the breakfasty goodness is located. Before I get to the food, let me just say that the whole 'double yolk' thing they have going is a sham. Double yolks are a genetic oddity and it is impossible to get them en masse. When the menu says 'double yolk', just translate it to 'two small eggs cooked side by side'. Still delicious, but not true double yolks. Because this was my first visit I decided to try a bunch of food. I got the "Big Man Breakfast" which included 3 pancakes or 2 slices of French Toast, 2 'double yolk' eggs (aka 4 small eggs), home fries, and choice of meat. I went with the French toast on the recommendation of the server and ham because it is my fav. The eggs were cooked perfectly, over medium, just like I like them. The home fries were fantastic, not overcooked or over spiced, true potatoey goodness. The ham was a nice think cut seared well and yet not greasy like it so often is. The French Toast was nostalgically good, it was prepared exactly like every breakfast place in the 90's used to make it; Texas toast, light batter, powdered sugar, they even gave me real maple syrup (it tasted real). How much did my practical buffet of food cost? $9.99. Well played Chef's House, well played. My only real complaint was the coffee. We live in a world that celebrates big, bold coffee and this was not that. If anything, it tasted like they didn't use enough coffee grounds. Just weak, thin, not good. Now, it only cost me $1.49 compared to the nearly $3 I pay elsewhere but I would rather pay extra for high quality. Perhaps that is something the Hilliard crowd just doesn't care about. Food= 5 stars, coffee=2 stars, ambiance=3 stars, overall=4 stars

Nice serving staff, and it looks like a family restaurant they keep clean. Like a fool i got the chicken parm dinner special, and it was tragic. I've had better microwave dinners. The chicken felt like rubber with bread crumbs that accidently got stuck to it, the noodles were mushy from being over cooked and the sauce might have been ketchup. There might be a sweet spot for this place, but i clearly missed it.

The food here was good. It gave a very homey atmosphere, but it felt a little tight. I would like more comfortable booths. Also, the restroom was disgustingly dirty. The staff was friendly, but nothing to write home about.

This is my go-too place for Liver and Onions. Not a bad job. However, their service is very slow and as others' have posted, you sometimes feel ignored. It's not like they have a packed house, either. A good, basic restaurant with good choices.

It was ok in a pinch. I only went here since starliner diner didn't open until 9am (wtf?). I got the corned beef hash, was made with chopped up lunchmeat, but otherwise was better than most hash I've had. Coffee tasted like it was roasted in the burlap sack it came in. Toast was a bit on the burnt side. But it's a cheap and quick breakfast place with a pretty convenient locale. It's indeed A-OK.

Always great service! So friendly and nice. The food is great - their tzatziki sauce is the best. I love the Denver omelet with feta and tzatziki. Very good gyros as well. Love this place! The coffee could be better, with such a great breakfast menu though!!

Ended up here because of long wait at a few other breakfast spots in the area. The hostess took us to a table that was "ready" however it was still dirty, we stood there waiting for her to come back to clean it, she never returned. Finally the waitress came over after we stood there in the middle of the restaurant for what felt like forever and took the dirty dishes and left over food away. Never mind the bad service, it was also hands down the worst meal I've ever had. The fries were obviously from a frozen bag and way under cooked. Our meal took over 40 minutes to arrive and was not warm, we both order basic breakfast staples (eggs, toast, my boyfriend got sausage) the sausage patty tasted like it was spoiled and was brought out cold, the eggs were rubbery and probably from a a box. To top off the dinning experience when I asked a waitress to lower the blinds because a glare from a car outside was shinning in my eyes I was basically ignored. I will obviously never go back again when there are so many amazing places to eat in and around Columbus that also have amazing service.

This is your "typical diner" from an ambiance standpoint, so know that ahead. That said, the food is excellent! They have a Greek influence to the menu and the gyros are the best. They have a pretty expansive menu with options for all tastes. The service is great. I have seen reviews that reference poor service and that HAD to be during times they were slammed. I have never had bad service. Try it and thank me later!

When I moved to Hilliard this was the first place that caught my eye because it is right down the street from where I live. Let me say this....I SO wanted this place to rock...so I could have my own local "place" eat. So lets start with what I loved. This place is CLEAN!!!!! I mean they seem to take pride in this place, which I love. Secondly the wait staff was super friendly and nice! Third....the hasbrowns here are homemade, fresh and they are just awesome! Now the bad...the burger sucked....I mean not good....frozed patty sprinkled with herds....and it just didnt work! My wifes was ok, I could make the same kind at home. I will be giving this place a second chance. Most likely for breakfast as the other reviewers suggest.

Dont get anything here unless its breakfast. I made that mistake the last time i was there. I got the chili....well when they brang it out it was campbells chili with the hearty meat. Each piece of meat was uniform in size. I grew up on this chili so i know it wasnt homemade as they said on the menu. I felt like they baited then switched me with nasty chili. So dont go here unless its for breakfast.

This is a nice clean comfortable place to sit at the counter and order lunch. I wish the food were a little better, however - i.e., the lettuce in my salad was turning brown from being old. The staff is nice, and it's a family business. It reminds me of a larger version of the NY diners I used to go to.

I've lived in Hillard for awhile but never went here until recently. I was pleasantly surprised. The breakfast is great, especially the sausage. The people are friendly. My kids loved this place. I will definitely go back.

I pretty much agree with the other reviews, but I will give them 4 stars at breakfast for the following things: Double yolk eggs - I don't know how they can get so many double yolk eggs - my suspicion is they are feeding you 2 medium size eggs and calling it a double yolk...any ways you order 2 eggs you are getting 4 medium sized eggs - yolks and all. Homemade sausage - it's delicious - full of sage - 3 2 ounce patties cooked thoroughly with out being flattened to death like Bob Evans. Real potato hash browns - these are real spuds - either left over baked potatoes from the day before or roasted for that day - they are fantastic - none of these pre-made, over seasoned "breakfast potatoes" or dehydrated shredded hash browns. Good coffee - it's Superior's restaurant blend, but it is fresh ground and tasty...I wish the coffee cups were bigger because you're constantly in need of more coffee. Also real half and half - no non dairy nonsense... Pancakes - they're not the best - that goes to Perkins, but they are tasty and firm - better than Bob's Accommodating - they will meet your requests - like cheese and onions in your hash browns or egg-whites only since they don't have egg beaters Family run - this restaurant is owned by a family - Mother, Son and Daughter wait on tables - their Father opened the restaurant but died too early in life - they carry on his vision. I do wish they'd upgrade their jelly and OJ (jelly from Superior Restaurant supply and OJ from Kroger's), but the quality things above make this a great diner for breakfast!

I have lived in Hilliard for over twenty years and have been to Chef's House countless times for breakfast and have never been disappointed. The eggs are always perfectly cooked and you get plenty thanks to their "double yolks". The pancakes and french toast are also great, and they definitely cook to order...I always ask for my bacon extra crisp and they come through every time! I went today for lunch for the first time and can't believe I waited this long! I had the tuna melt and it was great. Maybe a tad more mayo than I would like if I made it myself, but not so much that it deterred me from enjoying it. The rye bread it was served on was delicious, and grilled perfectly with a nice crunch to it. My dining companion had the tomato stuffed with tuna salad and it was served with a wedge of cantaloupe and some other fresh fruit, he said it was great. Service was excellent, waitress checked in another us and offered regular drink refills. Prices are reasonable, a good value for the meals we had. I am glad I tried lunch, this place is not just a breakfast spot for me anymore. It's nothing fancy, a family owned diner type of place with good quality food.

The wife and I went to Chef's House this morning for breakfast and it was great! We love little family-owned places with real food, and that's what Chef's is. It may not be the classiest joint, but it is clean, the sausage is homemade and wait staff is friendly and fast. I had the chopped steak and double-yolk over easy eggs and the wife had scrambled eggs and sausage. Both meals were as good as a diner breakfast gets.

Good breakfast, wouldn't have thought it was Greek, but the Gyro omelette was pretty good. The tzatziki was brought on the side which was a little strange...and it was hard. Tasty though. Good for a quick breakfast.

Ordered reuben for lunch. Picked up order and they left off the dressing. Course now I am stuck at work with a reuben that is not a reuben. Out come the ketchup packets and mayo. This made it worse. On top of that I called ahead and the order was not ready. I ended up being 3 minutes late. Happy Friday.

This is a great local restaurant that has great food! Don't waste your money on chain restaurants who's food tastes like plastic, come here and eat great food for a great price with Great Service! The staff smiles and are very friendly. You're served fast and the food is amazing. I'll definitely be coming back here often. I wish I could give it 100 starts!

Friendly diner fare with large portions and interesting combinations including a breakfast wrap with many choices of meat including even sliced gyro lamb. The yolk of my over easy eggs were perfectly cooked but the whites were dry and rubbery. All of the eggs are double yolk... I saw it mentioned in the omelet description but was surprised when I had 4 yolks staring back at me... I've had my fill of yolk covered bread for awhile :-). The coffee was hot and the refills were quick and friendly. There is only 1 table that can accommodate a large group but wheelchairs could get to the center tables without too much trouble.

I went for lunch - against other Yelpers advice - but had a perfectly fine experience. The gyro was big and definitely a solid choice. I ordered it with the home fries instead of fries. The regular fries appear pretty average. l did like their home fries though- lots of little crunchies. The vegetarian gyro was very generous with the kalamata olives - so beware if you're not a fan. The restaurant is pretty large and felt clean and well maintained. Lunch for 4 came out to be $40... the drinks are $1.99 so I guess that adds up. Prices are ok, not super reasonable, but portions are large. I noticed the homemade baklava only after I paid. Again, looked like a large portion. I will probably try that when I come back.

Good. The price is about average. Personally, I thought their breakfast was limited. The coffee was pretty good (I know because I drank about 8 cups). It's right on the corner of Roberts & Hilliard-Rome; so it's a solid location. Just a small side-note: The front doors are awkward. The double-yolks are cool, but I didn't find them absolutely amazing. Good, but better in title. I'm still excited to try dinner though. It's a small restaurant with nice staff. It reminds of something that'd be in a smaller, cozy town.
