My previous review from 2012 was at a time when Big Plate offered Supper, which they did away with a long time ago. I believe they are open till 3 p.m. now. I have been to big plate probably over 25+ times now, and consider it the best restaurant in Galion. The service is typically good (a little slow occasionally), the atmosphere is good, and the food is VERY good. Everything is cooked from scratch as far as I can tell, including mashed potatoes, beef and noodles (Friday only), Coney dogs, cheese burgers, wraps, fresh fries, hand breaded fish sandwich, and many other delicious offerings. A word to the wise: do not question the owner as she appears to be easily irritated. We recently asked to speak with the owner regarding not being able to substitute an item, and was told "you better make it quick because I'm the only one in the kitchen, and I'm trying to provide food to all of these customers" - very, very poor customer service. Given that this is Galion, and there aren't many other dining options on this level, that wisecrack won't be enough to keep me away, but it could've been handled much better on her part. The company that I work for has given this establishment *thousands* of dollars of business since they opened, and it didn't sit well with several people in our party. Seems to be a lot of turn over in help too. We have a different waitress every week it seems.

Had to update, unfortunately... Went back to Big Plate several months after my initial review. I had been having dreams of sweet pancakes and those home fries. The wait took forever this time, but I usually don't mind waiting for food if it's worth it. Ordered the pancake big plate with eggs and a side of homefries. I asked for my eggs over easy (always) and then onion with my homefries. The food came out finally, but my eggs were scrambled (ick) and the lady brought out the homefries prefacing that they were onion-less but that they were bring some onions out in a minute (huh??). I never did see these ala carte onions (freaking weird anyway), and the homefries were underdone and bland as heck. Not good! The pancakes were salty, dense, and too buttery - just average at best. The sausage appeared different as well from my last visit. I didn't complain about the eggs, they were okay and I didn't want to make a fuss. I did check the bill and she had written my order up correctly, apparently the kitchen crew can't read. I don't know if I caught Big Plate on an off day but it was brunch time on a Sunday so one would assume that they would have their 'A' crew working the kitchen. Based on this last visit I don't think I'd ever go back. It was mediocre at best. Very disappointing especially given the awesomeness I had my first visit. This doesn't speak well for consistency and quality.

3 egg florintine omelet was one of the best I have had in a long time. Great service, friendly people. Serves breakfast all day. Breakfast and lunch only. Will be back!

Fair food, very nice but not well trained waitstaff but a very nasty owner that treats the customers and staff very rudely. I am sorry to say, she will not be seeing any of my hard earned money anymore.

It is a MIRACLE! This is based on the home fries alone - they were golden brown and delicious! You know, the way that all diner or mom and pops used to cook them? Oh wait, ARE SUPPOSED TO! Eggs came out perfect (over medium = whites cooked, runny yolks), bacon too, crisp and perfect... Liked the friendly gals of the wait staff!! Even sat at the marble counter in front of the Coke syrup thing! For some reason all the small independent places cannot or do not know how to cook breakfast - under cooked eggs and cold, droopy, greasy home fries and of course, never seasoned. These guy do it right. Got to try lunch sometime! I was with my son and he had biscuits and gravy and grabbed a forkful and wonderful! I did need a band aid as a result, he was chowing down and i maybe should not have done that.... Last time had Eggs Benedict with spinach - made me think i was wandering around the diner circuit in eastern PA. Been here twice and high marks! Will the third try hit the skids, don't think so.... Besides, i am not going to be the passive aggressive pU$$y and bang away on the keyboard after the fact, i am sure they would fix anything that was wrong. For sure they deserve the biz!!!!

I was back in the Buckeye State to watch my 97 year old Grandfather be honored as one of the first members of the iconic "Script Ohio" during the Ohio State - Wisconsin game. The morning after, a group of about a dozen Reids gathered at the Big Plate Diner for breakfast. What a wonderful experience! First off, the service was outstanding! Our server was ebullient and made us feel at home. I ordered the stuffed french toast (I will post pictures when I can) which is a beautiful combination of strawberries and cream cheese. Delicious. My cousin Bob ordered the "Garbage Omelette," which took up the size of the plate. When the sign hanging over the place says "Big Plate Diner," believe it. Those plates are big! Come with an appetite and high expectations. On a side note, this is a locally-owned business in a great little small town of Galion, Ohio, so if you are in the area or passing through on the way for a ball game or to visit Cedar Point or something, please give them your business.

I wasn't blown away by the meal (I got the meatloaf special), but I was looking for some small-town, home-cooked food and found it at the Big Plate Diner. The gal working the counter was very friendly, even though she was clearly getting ready to close the restaurant for the day (they close at 3pm, except one night a week--Thursday, I think). My hunch is that they're known for their breakfasts. The portions seemed generous to me. The space is actually very cool. Kinda retro/old-fashioned. If you're a food snob, you may not be impressed, but if you're looking for some down-home food in a neat little diner, check it out. Chances are, you'll enjoy your experience.

Stopped there for lunch today. Service was quick and friendly. Had the soup, sandwich and salad combo, all of which was tasty and a good choice for the indecisive. Pancake breakfast looked good too. My only complaint: it was a little cold in the restaurant.
