My review is as valid as it is at your sister property. I was told the 2 stores were owned by different folks...turns out, they are not, and the food is just as bad in both locations. Your claims that I am a competitor are false...nothing more than a reaching fabrication to attempt to diminish my honest review. I have no vendetta against you either, rather just posting an honest review. I also did NOT respond "nasty" to Chad as you claim...it was him being rude and immature. It was he who claimed my review was slanderous, it was he who accused me, it was he said he would be pleased I wont be coming back...very unprofessional...and much like you. All, take the extra 5 minutes and go over to Smokey Bones or Logans Roadhouse for *AUTHENTIC* BBQ, and even if you dont like the visit, you can count on the managers/owners not attacking you, and making false accusations.

I really like this place. I was looking for places close to where I live that we could take my parents when they were in town and we finally got to go a few weeks ago. Everyone enjoyed the place and we went back again today, just me and my fiance, to have dinner again and enjoyed it just as much, if not more. I like that it's a local place and not a chain, but also not pretentious or trendy. I like that this is not a pick-up scene and there are families and elderly people there, but also some couples as well. Everybody wins, and there's no line of hipsters out the door. Always a bonus in my book. The food is very good as well and pretty much everything on the menu sounds good to me. It's straight up American steakhouse fare, nothing fancy, just good. The ribs my fiance ordered were some of the best he ever had, and they have 2 different kinds of mushroom appetizers for me. Good stuff.

We reserved this place for a friends' bday (party of 8) we were pleasantly greeted by 2 waitresses who asked what we would like to drink there weren't any suggestions made such as "u should try this drink or appetizer" the service was simply "what would like to have?" The food was meh... I ordered the ribs n chicken combo; the ribs were fall-off-the-bone but seemed like they were boiled and quickly grilled and then BBQed. I expected it to be smoked on hickory chips for several hours but that wasn't the case, there wasn't any indication of a smoke ring. Most importantly I was in great company. A slice of cake was brought out to my buddy and noticed there wasn't a desert recommendation before serving. I got the impression the servers wanted to finish their shift( we left at 9:30). This was just my experience I suggest everyone to just experience for yourselves.

Generally I have to have a bad sort of anger or illness inducing trip somewhere to rate it a two. That isn't the case with The Hickory House. We've had two bad experiences at this plate but the staff handled it very politely and so they would get top marks. Except. On my first dining trip here I had a dead bug in my salad. I suppose it could happen to anyone, but still ewww. If my food had been tremendously good I might have considered rethinking my stance on the place (Basi Italia could put a toad under my Eggplant and I'd still come back for more) but the food was meh at best. Still, the family gave it another chance and it was the husband next time who ended up with the tip of a rubber glove (we hope) in his fries. The manager was apologetic but again the creepiness factor was too much. So I wouldn't recommend The Hickory House and I would never go back. Sorry kind staff! You all were great but your food wasn't.

FABulous ribs, in fact any time we're in town from California, this is our first stop. They have a real way with quality and service, highly recommend the catfish too. Baked potato to die for. Ty was our server - incredibly fun and gracious. Big kudos to Jimmy Torchia on this one!

My family and I had just landed after a long tired flight and we were ready to eat our fingers we were so hungry so I picked out the hickory house. It was interesting when we walked in since there weren't that many people working there. The hostes smelled like she bathed in cigerattes. I ordered a casear salad and chicken wings which were tasty. My dad got a salad but it was iceberg so it wasn't very good. The food was fair, but if you need a bite hickory house is a good place to go.

Great steak, awesome ribs! Twice now after getting disgusted with the crowds lines, and not altogether great prices of the Jazz and Ribs fest, I made the trek to Hickory House, and those trips like many others, didn't leave me disappointed. Sides, salads, and deserts are rather good Now that I have you out of the way, just go for the meat, its too good to waste your time on anything else. Steaks are great, but their baby back ribs are the best. Not only do you get the best quality, but they're bigger too (an extra bone or two). Eating healthy, get a half rack, but you only live once, and be a pig! Get the whole rack (it's half a pig of baby back ribs)!

It's been a while but I have eaten here several times always with a good experience to tout. I love the decor of this place and the prices are very reasonable. I am always happy to support local restaurants vs chains (Olive Garden, etc.) and this was no exception. If you don't happen to be a meat lover, not to worry, there is something for everyone. The Hickory House has been in business since 1979 and must be doing something right! I have always been impressed with every facet of this place including the beautifully kept outdoor area! These guys are incredible and are worth checking out. Support local business!

Good simple food done very well. Steaks and ribs were great. Nothing fancy but the food was delicious. Service was exceptional. We eat out frequently and this restaurant is underrated for sure. Of course if you are looking for fancy plates and garnishes, this is not for you. If you want good food done well, then go to The Hickory House.

In hindsight I've probably been a little rough on reviewing BBQ joints outside of Kansas City. But there is a reason,,,,, they all suck, and the Hickory House is no different. Salads are good, sides are ok, but if you use Hickory in your business name shouldn't you use it.

If you are going on a saturday night, definitely make a reservation. We had to wait over an hour, which was odd since there were PLENTY of tables available. The hostess didn't seem all that smart, or organized, and she wasn't very friendly. Food was good. I recommend the filet and ribs. I didn't care for the coleslaw.

I've had this place 'bookmarked' since a few months after I moved to the area. Finally, a year later, I make it here for dinner.... WHY DID I WAIT SOOOOOOOO LONG?????? SHAME on me!!!! And shame on you if you don't try this place either! For dinner I decided on the full rack of ribs (see my pic) with the green beans as my side (see additional pic). And they were literally on a side plate.... no room on the dinner platter because the ribs hogged the whole plate!! And mind you, it wasn't just a side of beans, it also was a whole plate of fresh, crispy, flavorful, green beans!! Before this glorious dinner, the server brought out the most wonderfully warm and fresh loaf of bread!! Then I chose the Caesar salad - OHHHHH SOOOOO GOOOOOD dressing made on site!! Then of course came those most beautiful ribs!! Yes, beautiful!!! See my pic if you don't believe me!! The menu says "Award Winning".... well I should say so!! They were absolutely wonderful. I can't find the words to describe... all I can say is they were some of the best ribs ever!! Our server was great... oh so friendly!! But then she had the nerve to offer desert... Of course I had to pass... I'm sure I'll regret that.... maybe next time if I only get a half order of ribs... LOL... yeah right!!!

Ate here the day after Valentine's Day. Ordered a Cesar salad and broiled salmon. The salad came and was drenched in dressing. Overpowering. Then the salmon came out, and as the waitress was putting the plate on the table I could smell the stench of the salmon. It had grill marks on it like a steak, which broiled salmon (as stated on the menu) does not. My friend who also ordered salmon had hers blackened. When she asked me why I hadn't eaten my fish, I said it has a terrible smell to it. She said "now that you mentioned it, mine did too, and I hope I don't get sick." I should have sent my meal back, but I was too tired to make the effort. I saw good reviews on this restaurant, maybe this was an off night.

One of my friends had this place bookmarked for about a year. We finally decided to go and check it out since BBQ had been on our minds! From the photos I saw on Yelp of the Hickory House, it looked more like a bar-type, casual dining experience. However, we pleasantly found out differently! Our waitress was a sweetheart and said she had worked there for 7 years. I ordered the porterhouse steak (which is a specialty) and it was amazing!! I very large piece of meet! Take my advice....make sure you order sides that are smaller, like a veggie or rice. I got the steak fries and it was way too much food! (unless you want to take it home). My dining companion ordered a full slab of ribs. Let me say.....they were the most beautiful BBQ ribs I've ever laid eyes on!!! (as funny as that sounds!) I tried a few of them and OH-EM-GEE..........fantastic!!! The sauce has a bit of a spicy bite to it, but not over the top. It was a perfect flavor!! Next, I think I'll try the ribs myself (of course) or the BBQ glazed meatloaf! The prices aren't too bad...average for a steak house. But you certainly get what you pay for! Deliciousness!!

My kind of place this is not. My husband however left saying this is the most satified he's felt from a meal in a long time. The man had been working hard and wanted me to find a place that has a good Porterhouse. All he told me is that he doesn't mind spending $20 on a steak, he's tired however of paying $40+ for one. Well that knocked out the options of Hyde Park, Mitchells and so on. He had been dissapointed with the steaks at J. Gilberts, Ruth Chris,Smith & Wollinsky... hell pretty much everywhere we went in Columbus. I found the Hickory House, Porterhouse $20 and I also found a $7 off coupon, score! With that we went that evening and the Gahanna location seemed much nicer than the old dark one on E Main street. We got there at 6pm, it was about halfway full and by the time we left the place was packed, good sign for a tuesday night. The service was very fast, although the server was horrible. She was hostile and asked everyone around us several times how they were enjoying their food and if they need anything, us-nothing, Oh well, also though the location is spacious and clean, its still somewhat not inviting, I refused to spend $20 on salmon so I went with the BBQ chicken salad. Their famous house dressing is nasty, oil, cumin and onions, so I sent it back and asked for balsamic. Well it turns out they already dressed my salad and put more on the side, so I had a very greasy, oily salad, it was large and fresh just that turned me off. They bring a large breadbasket which is fine, nothing special. My son had the chicken tenders from my salad, the chicken was fine, their homemade BBQ horrible, we all agreed way too tangy and just off. The man was very very happy with his steak, cooked to perfection, the dinner salad he got with it was also large just a bit off with chinese noodles in it, WTH?!! In all, he was very satisfied, so I'd go back for him whenever the steak craving hits, me not so much but for the price and his happiness gladly.

Ok usually I like the place but not good at all I got 6 pc shrimp w/baked pot. For $18.50 not worth the bucks. I could have gone to Kroger and got FRESH SHRIMP for that price. Will not be going back I will UNCHECK IT ON MY BOOKMARK PAGE.

I had a full rack of ribs take out. The ribs were excellent- meaty and flavorful. There was a nice charr to give a smoked flavor and the sauce was not too sweet and had a bit of spice. For traveling through, I was happy with a large portion of reasonable priced and delicious ribs.

It is really tough to find a casual restaurant with better food than Hickory House. Best ribs I have ever had and filet is very very good as well. A must go to if you are in the area. Perfect for families.

The food is excellent!! the only reason I rated a 3 star is because we had a large party of 8 and we each had coupons for $ off two entrees but they would only allow us to use one per table.

I ordered the glazed meatloaf with a side of sautéed mushrooms and home fries. The staff was quick an friendly and there was a very nice atmosphere. The meatloaf and mashed potatoes it rested upon are the BEST I've ever had at a restaurant! The food was just epically awesome. Only downside comes 2nd hand from one of my lunch mates who indicated the bathrooms coulda been better, but I don't come to a restaraunt to do anything but eat, :), so there's that.

First time eating at The Hickory House, and it was pretty good. It feels local without being too ghetto--whoever owns the place clearly spent a lot of money on the building and cares about the way their restaurant looks. The staff was friendly and service was fast enough, too. On the downside, the awesome breadbasket came after I already had my food, and fries without salt kinda suck.

In Columbus, Hickory House is superior to Montgomery Inn ribs. I think Montgomery doesn't even cook their ribs in Columbus. They taste reheated. Had the ribeye tonight and it was yum. Can't go wrong with the Hickory Chips, they are a must. Bread is always fresh and the house dressing is delicious.

I swear that the filet was baked not grilled. It was very tender though. Overall it was a decent value. Nice selection of draft beers. I would eat here again if staying close by.

Simply the best damned steakhouse in the area. The quality of the meat can easily be compared with the alleged best and overpriced restaurants in town. The service is extraordinary. We eat there at least a dozen times a year and have NEVER been disappointed. I had the rib eye tonight and it was huge and cooked to perfection. Kudos to Jimmy and his staff. If you are lucky enough to get Ty as your server, be prepared for an extra special evening.

Just finished eating here. Excellent rib filet combo dinner and cobb salad with blue cheese dressing. High end meat for non high end prices, cooked to perfection, served with a smile, in a pleasant atmosphere. What a great find near CMH!! I will be BACK!

They have offically lived up to the hype. I had rhe porterhouse and it was better than the steak I had while in Texas a few weeks ago. Try the house salad with the sweet onion dressing, nice surprise.

I travel for work almost every week and am always looking for a local restaurant and not the chains. Saw the sign so thought I would give a try. Excellent!!! Amazing Ribs, suburb service, comfortable environment and reasonable prices. Well worth the stop.

Came for dinner on a Thursday night. It was busy, but we were seated right away. Our waitress, Michelle, was awesome! She made sure to keep our drinks refilled and the bread coming!! (Mmm!! My favorite!) We had onion straws as an app and the bbq dipping sauce was delicious. We shared the porter house and it was cooked to perfection. We are sure to be back!!

I stayed at a hotel nearby, and when I asked the hotel clerk for recommendations, he said he had eaten here once and "it was good", so my expectations were not great. I got the half order of onion straws... really good. Then ordered the special, a ribeye with 3 grilled shrimp, baked potato, salad with blue cheese. All of the food was cooked perfectly, and I couldn't have been happier. I was also blown away by the service. Tasha was amazing. The meal was about $30 (including the soda), but there was so much left over, including most of the "loaf" of bread they served with the salad, I had lunch and dinner the following day. Eating while on a business trips gets to be a grind after a while, but this place made me glad to be "on the road again".

Ok, so the service was great, the food was excellent, and the pricing was not too bad either. But the 45 minute wait for a table for two,, hmmmm...

Went here at a local's recommendation, was able to get in right away. Resturant is supposed to have a log house feel, but it didn't quite pull it off, came off a bit cheesy. Had the Gooseneck Seasonal beer, it was a nice ale. For starters, we had onion straws, which were also good, not overly greasy. it was served with a BBQ sauce. The house sauce here is a sweet sauce, which is not usually my preferred, but I found it to be very good. They also served some bread, which was very good. For my entree I had the ribs and chicken plate. It came with a dinner salad, which was your typical iceberg salad. Nothing special about it. The ribs was very good, literally fell off the bone. The chicken was average, just slightly dry. Same sauce for both, which again was a sweet sauce. Not any options for any other flavors that I could find. My side was brocolli, which was average. Not the best BBQ I've had, but the ribs were very good. Worth a visit just for them.

This might become our new go-to spot. We've been twice to each location and both were awesome. Great staff and service. The BBQ is the real deal. You can taste the hickory and the ribs are incredibly tender....even the next day. The ribeye is wonderfully marbled and cooked to perfection. The money shot is in the BBQ cheesy, chicken bacon nacho's. They are pure decadence!! You can make a meal on them alone.

I've heard good things about this place and it didn't disappoint! The steals were flavorful and juicy! My wife and I had red potatoes for a side and they were also great and flavorful. Hell, even our salads were great! ( I had a Caesar salad and my wife had the house specialty) more importantly, our service was great. The guy (don't remember his name) was nice and funny when bringing out our salads. Our waitress, Rachel, was top-notch! She had recommendations about food items, she was knowledgeable, and she wasn't over bearing. Overall, we will be coming back!

We usually love this place. Great food! No complaints there! But it seems as if you are not someone who frequents at least once a week you are not treated the same. Upon arrival my husband mentioned to me he would love to have a 16oz ribeye that is NOT usually on the menu. So when our waitress Tara came over he ordered the porterhouse. The table next to us arrived shortly after. Tara greeted them with small talk and proceeded to tell them about the specials for the evening, one being a 16oz ribeye. My husband and I were never told the specials and were treated as if we were a burden to her as she worked the regulars for a tip. I was truly disappointed with our service this night. Tara and the staff at Hickory House need to remember how those regulars came to be "regulars" TREAT ALL YOUR CUSTOMERS THE SAME! Boo for you Hickory House!!!

This place is near the hotel I'm staying at so I decided to check it out. I sat at the bar and ordered the "ultimate" sandwich which was pretty good. The coleslaw that comes on the sammy was very good. The fries were fresh and crispy. I also ordered some peach pie for dessert which I was pretty disappointed with...it was cold, not fresh tasting, and had a side of cool whip instead of real whipped cream. Overall it was a cool place and I will definitely be going back while I'm in town.

First off let me state that the food was REALLY GOOD!!! My son ( who has special needs) had the shrimp and loved it!!! To be able to go to a new restaurant is not easy with my son!!! I have the slab of ribs and they were great also. The bread was nice and warm but it looked like it had been sat on. We will return and take friends price was good, we used the YELP coupon and our bill was below $50 for everything. SO you ask why I only gave it 4 stars... Well like I said in the beginning I have a special needs son and the waitress was snippy and not very pleasant at different points in the meal!!! That does not go over well with me since she also rolled her eyes when I asked her if I could change my sons dinner choice. We went at 5 pm so as to not be trouble and be able to not be rushed and she just really kinda blew it. So we will go back for the food but not for her service!!! P.S. I ended calling and speaking to the manager. He was VERY NICE and REALLY upset about his staffs behavior!!! He ended up sending me a gift card so we would come back. I made sure to tell him that being given a gift card was not what I was looking to get, I wanted him to be aware of how one of his staff members was treating people.

Still the best BBQ ribs in town! Fall off the bone everytime. The steaks are also good. Alittle pricey for normal dinner out, but great for special occasions. My gf loves their salads and onion straws.

Hickory House has great ribs - they practically fall off the bone. The ambiance is a little lacking but the food makes up for it and is a great value. We also take advantage of their quick carry out.

First time I came to Columbus I had no idea if I'd ever be back. To Columbus that is. Fortunately I have been back numerous times and I never, ever, never miss a visit or two to the Hickory House. In fact, I now purposely stay at the Candlewood next door so I can walk here. Tonight, I'm going with Filet and Ribs Combo. Ribs are a must here and always consistently amazing. Service is top notch at the bar too, where I always sit. Even the salad with the blue cheese dressing is uniquely great. So, I don't recent when my last visit or review at HH was but I've had ribs elsewhere in many cities. These are still the best in the country in my opinion. Tonight's Filet was wonderful and my green beans perfect. My ribs? Well, you know how I feel about them...

It is a journey to get to this place and then you can't even tell if its open. All you see is this and some trees around you.. So at night it can seem pretty creepy. Inside is the typical low lighting that you can expect from a steak house. Although it seemed to be lower than what is comfortable. The food overload that you get from this place is worth checking out. I would skip all the fried stuff on the menu. It wasn't done so well and it was just plain extremely greasy. The steak was presented very nicely but it was so tough and lots of tissue to chew through. The saving moment of that was the apple sauce that went along with the steak.

I finally went to check this place today. I'd known about it for almost two years now from people at work since it's right by us, but I had just never got around to trying it. When I went over there today to pick up my takeout, I don't even think I'd ever been in that area before. The restaurant itself is in an odd spot in front of some office buildings with no other retail (that I could see) in the area. The inside was nice, clean, and spacious, and there were a few diners in there. The hostess was very nice, and my food had only taken about 10 minutes to get ready, so keep that in mind if you ever order ahead of time, so you don't pick it up cold. I ordered a lunch portion of ribs, which is 5 bones with a good amount of meat on them and a side of fries. I read that the blue cheese was good too, and it's made in house, so I got a side salad. The ribs were fantastic. They fell right off the bone and were juicy and tender, and the BBQ sauce was great, but they didn't completely smother them, making it just right. I could definitely eat a full slab of these any time. The fries on the other hand were pretty pretty bad which was disappointing, because I love steak fries with ribs. They were a bit cold, which isn't really a problem for me, but they had a really bad taste and after taste that I couldn't put my finger on. I'm not sure if it was something from the fryer, or maybe I'm just unlucky, but I'd steer away from these. The salad was pretty great too. The homemade blue cheese was delicious, and it looks like you can actually buy it by the jar along with their BBQ sauce and Sweet and Sour dressing. I will definitely be back to try other items, but it'll be hard to not get the ribs. They also have a Reynoldsburg location that's not too far from this place if you're in that area instead.

I was in need of a food adventure, something new. I was in the area and did a yelp search. I was totally enticed by the scrumptious looking photos. The steaks and ribs looked absolutely delicious! I also discovered a check in special - $5 off dinner for two. With an overall rating of four stars this must be a winner I'm thinking. Mediocre or maybe meh is the best word to describe my experience. Absolutely nothing popped. Nothing jumped out and made my taste buds happy. My oysters were perfectly fried blandness. Thank goodness for the sauce, it helped. The crab cakes were ridiculously small and underwhelming for the price. My family of three ate fish and chips, full rack platter, and a ribeye and 1/2 slab combo. No drinks and no desserts, we're cheap like that. Thrifty sounds better. Our bill before the $5 off special was $91. When I spend this amount of money I want to be satisfied and impressed. I was neither. My combo meal looked good but was bland, tender but bland. My husband's fried fish was pretty average. The full slab of ribs were very saucy, fall off the bone mediocre ribs. The food is cooked right but lacks flavor. I must say the service was good, prompt and friendly. If you don't mind being called sweetie or baby you'll be fine. Seven times, I actually got called those names. Really I did, I counted. I didn't mind, our waitress was good, plus she was training a new waitress. So, no we won't be back. Not horribly bad but I think I could have had this quality of food at a buffet.

I would give this place NO stars but Yelp won't let me. I came to dinner with a group of nine people. They said the couldn't accommodate us for at least 1.5hrs unless we wanted to split the group into three tables. They also said they can only seat four at a time and can't add extra chairs to booths. Might i add that the booth directly next to the hostess had an extra table and two chairs attached to the booth! They made us wait 25min and meanwhile kept seating people ahead of us even though we had agreed to be seated separately. I'm sorry but I have to say this...all the white people were accommodated quickly and we were not. This is the most subliminally racist restaurant I have been to in Ohio. In fact all the white customers coming in made estranged faces when they walked into a lobby with nine people of color waiting to be seated. If you are a person a color DO NOT come to this restaurant. They will not welcome you.

It has been three straight days that I have been driving by this restaurant, as I drove back to my hotel. It is located about a stone throw away from my hotel. Because of the tornado warning and I didn't want to drive far , I figured I'd give this one a shot. As I walked in, I was a bit confused with the ambience. Initially, I thought it was a formal setting because of the dimmed lights. I decided to sit at the bar since I was by myself anyway. This is when I realized that it has a casual atmosphere. Okay- on with the food. I wanted to try the grilled shrimps from the appetizer menu as I was not that hungry anyway. I gave my order to my server / bar tender. To my surprise, my order came and it was humongous !! Veggies, side salad, rice pilaf. I then realized that he actually thought I ordered the dinner grilled shrimp rather than the appetizer portion. My bad- I should have known when he asked me what dressing I wanted for my salad. Anyways, as I took the first bite of my first shrimp, it did not disappoint . The fresh shrimps were grilled to perfection , seasoned well and the presentation was good. He was attentive to me, asking me for water (and/or wine ) to be refilled, the entire time I was sitting at the bar , as I was literally typing this review. The veggies -- so so. I would have given this one a 4- star but because of the lack of inattentiveness of the server for getting my order right to begin with , I dinged it one star, and one more star for the price. The appetizer portion was 8.95 and that's just the shrimps and the tartar sauce, but the dinner was about $21 for additional salad, a small portion of rice pilaf and green beans. Other than that, it's a good place with good food!

Recently dined there with some business associates and had a sirloin steak which was delicious. The service was good. Others at the table had ribs and raved about them. Very satisfactory meal and recommend the Hickory House

My wife and I came here for dinner for the first time and had the pleasure of being waited on by Jeremy. Honestly probably the best service since moving to Columbus about 6 months ago. The food was great, and the service was even greater. Props to Jeremy for going above and beyond!

Really is the best Porterhouse steak for $21. Nicely seasoned. Though the steak knife was pretty dual, it was so tender you could actually tear the meat off in peaces. I had the veggies as the side dish. The broccoli-cauliflower mix covered in cheese (and garlic) were fresh and not over-cooked. So, what kept it from being 5 stars? The garlic was a bit overwhelming for my taste. The steak was rare instead of medium rare and the waitress never came by again to ask how things were. I would definately try them again if I'm ever back in the area.

Good service. Nice atmosphere in the bar area. Cold beer at $5.50 for a glass. The bread was really good! I got the rib dinner ($18.95) and was not impressed. I'm pretty sure the ribs were boiled or par-boiled at best. As one who loves to both eat and cook ribs, I think this is the lazy, flavor losing way to cook ribs, especially for a BBQ joint. I would not recommend the ribs. The onion straws were good but a little soggy. A friend enjoyed his porterhouse steak.

Greeted by a very friendly hostess. Seated and quickly welcomed by my sever. She was so nice and helpful. Ordered the ribeye baked potato and salad. The sweet and sour salad dressing is wonderful and gave the nice salad a wonderful flavor. The baked potato was fresh and tasty. Had not been siting around all day ! I ordered my ribeye medium rare. And that is how it was cooked.... Medium rare. Juicy, flavorful with no added seasoning to mask a bad steak. Good job Folks !!!!

Conceptually, the menu is intriguing but it stops there. Bleu cheese dressing is either 1) great or 2) not worth the calories. I blew just blew 300 of them. Don't serve unripe red tomatoes - they have 1) lousy texture and 2) no taste. And worse, never serve them fresh out of the fridge. Folks, unripe tomatoes, served cold, ain't a good thing. Very unappetizing. So is the grated, obviously pre-packaged, and pardon the guess, cheap cheese thrown on top. Steak on salad was good. Properly prepared. But chilled. Precooked. Atmosphere is fun. Service is ok. Servers seem to be low energy. Could be a likable place - just buy better quality product. You're shouting out "we're in this for the $$$, not the love." I did not bother trying any BBQ, self proclaimed to be award winning or not. I've learned. Can't smell it then avoid it. Years ago I read some words of wisdom in William Least Heat-Moon's "Blue Highways" (you'll need to ask him about the name but the book is a huge ***** for me) about plastic menus - avoid places with them. Yep. Walking to my car, I noticed the kitchen exhaust fans were nearby. Walked by. Not a hint of smoke. Much less hickory smoke. Figures.

The Porterhouse was large and perfectly cooked. The bread was fresh. I was double-teamed with the most efficient wait staff I could ask for. If you love sauce, and "fall off the bone" meat, maybe this place is for you. It's not for me. I mean, I like sauce too, and tender meat, but I want more from my barbecue. I want smoke, and other flavors in the meat. I want texture, and a variety of flavors. These are saucy tender bland ribs. Meaty, and flavorless. Don't get me wrong- the ribs aren't bad, just, well, mediocre. There's plenty of meat, and plenty of sauce (they give you extra napkins and a much-appreciated supersize wetwipe.) It's just... there's no flavor in the meat. The flavor comes from the sauce, fairly sweet and with an unexceptional blend of spices (but no heat,) and from a short char on a grill. I'm guessing the ribs are actually cooked by boiling, then finished off with the grill and sauce. Hickory House has been on my to-do list for a long time, and I think subconsciously I knew the ribs would be like this so I avoided it. It's a local institution, but just as with Montgomery Inn I'm not real sure why it has succeeded. Back when Damon's was the only competition, maybe these were better. Honestly, Damon's is what I thought of when I ate these. And that's not a good thing. Now that we have so many options, I don't see the draw of places like this. I had the half slab, which came with a salad and side. The salad was pretty good, and the house dressing was tasty. The bread was nice- warm and doughy. I chose their famous onion straws as my side, and was disappointed. They came piled up on a small plate, overflowing so they touched the table. Yuck. And they were, well, fried onions which I like, but with little seasoning. Plus they got cold quickly. Okay, but not great. It's tucked away off the road; be sure to follow the signs, and park in the back. Service was decent, if a little slow. Prices were high. Barbecue is expensive to make, and I'll pay more for better food, but not for this. I mean, portions were large but for the quality if you compare to other barbecue places you get similar portions of much better food for a bit less money. Who knows, maybe their steaks are better? And the place is nice enough- dark, woody, comfy. Maybe that's the draw. Overpriced, bland, and forgettable.

I went there with a group of co-workers for dinner about three weeks ago. I give this place a five because there's no reason to give it anything less. The service was above average, the food was cooked to order and it was really tasty. I had the filet and really enjoyed it. The filet was better than any of the typical steakhouse chains such as Outback, or Black Angus. I'd say it was similar in taste to a steak you'd get at The Keg but I think it might have been better quality meat. It might be that they source it locally. I really love onions so I enjoyed the onion straws as well.

I travel a lot for work, and have a hard and fast rule, "no chain restaurants". I try and stick with this mantra. Tonight, after a long day of driving, phone calls, customer visits and a four mile run, here I sit. Cold glass, cold draft, blue cheese dressing is made in house and great. They could sell the recipe! Ordered the Porterhouse. The steak that made the famous. For $22 it was huge, cooked to order and tasty. Onion ring was the side. Better Tiffany pedestrian but not noteworthy. All in all, makes me proud to eat local! This place is worth the trip.

I was in town for work and was staying at the Candlewoods, the 10% off the meal using my room key was cool! I ordered a NY baked potato and salad. Everything was really great no complaints. It was a slower night, I would have liked to see my server more but it is what it is.

Must say, I was pleasantly surprised. The decor is nothing to write home about, rather generic. I wasn't very impressed with the cleanliness of our table as well, though it was difficult to see as the lights were turned down so low my 80 year old mother-in-law had to read the menu by my cell phone light. Plus, in a pretty strange location- kind of difficult to get to. That being said, the food was excellent, the service prompt and respectable, and the bill was very reasonable considering the quality (and quantity) of the food. My salmon was perfectly cooked and the green beans were some of the best I have ever had at a restaurant. I don' t know if I'd make a special trip to go here again, but I was definitely impressed.

Came for dinner on a Thursday night. It was busy, but we were seated right away. Our waitress, Michelle, was awesome! She made sure to keep our drinks refilled and the bread coming!! (Mmm!!

Had the porterhouse and I was perfectly cooked (not an easy task). Decor is old, but homey. Prices were very reasonable and salads were fresh! A new go to place for steak or ribs for me!

Hickory House has great ribs - they practically fall off the bone. The ambiance is a little lacking but the food makes up for it and is a great value. We also take advantage of their quick carry out.

Excellent service. Excellent menu. Prices are a little higher than I expected, but we stayed anyway. Good thing, too. The portions were huge. The apps we got were enough to feed an army. No complaints!

Not a bad place to grab a BBQ sandwich and a beer to unwind after a long day of work. Friendly staff, decent food, and close to the hotel will keep me coming back.

The food is excellent!! the only reason I rated a 3 star is because we had a large party of 8 and we each had coupons for $ off two entrees but they would only allow us to use one per table.

I swear that the filet was baked not grilled. It was very tender though. Overall it was a decent value. Nice selection of draft beers. I would eat here again if staying close by.

Just finished eating here. Excellent rib filet combo dinner and cobb salad with blue cheese dressing. High end meat for non high end prices, cooked to perfection, served with a smile, in a pleasant atmosphere. What a great find near CMH!! I will be BACK!

Good stuff.
