The Spot is one of our favorite places to eat in Dayton, especially breakfast. Super cheap, cash only, home style cooking. The pancakes are the fluffiest I've ever had, the biscuits and gravy are just delicious. The sandwiches are great too! Hospitality is second to none, you feel like a regular there. Great neighborhood experience (even though it's in the hood), and I'm glad little dive places like this still exist.

Dirty, Gross, and Cheap So, this place is a total dive. It's rough looking, a little dusty and crooked, and I'm talking about the building, the staff, and the patrons. The food is cooked right in front of you, home-style, and sans hairnets (which led to me finding some hairs in my food). The breakfast specials are very affordable (5 dollars for eggs, toast, meat, hash browns, and a drink). My eggs were not cooked to order (big difference between the over-easy I asked for and the over-hard/scrambled mess I got). The hash-browns were greasy and my orange juice was clearly not anywhere close to fresh or even juice. The coffee was also terrible.

My first trip in here. I was not real impressed with the place. The service was friendly but very slow. I ordered the double cheeseburger, fries and cottage cheese and a Diet Coke. My order was prepared to order but shortly after it arrived I had to go up to the counter to ask for a fork. I was a little put off with the fact that the Diet Coke came to table in a can which was one thing but it would have been nice if it came with a soda straw and a glass of ice. My daughter ordered the chicken cordon bleu and onion rings. The order took a long time to arrive at the table. When it finally did arrive our waitress told us the chicken takes a long time to cook. Seems to me we should have been told this when the order was placed and not when it was delivered. Food actually was fairly good. Had the old time diner flavor I was looking for. About half way thru our meal all 3 of the personal decided to take a lunch break together without any regard for the customers. When our dinner was served I told the waitress to keep the tab open in case we wanted to order dessert. My daughter order a root beer float and I ordered a bowl of banana pudding. The root beer float consisted of vanilla ice cream in a green plastic soda fountain mug with a can of A&W root beer on the side. I thought (this is where I made my mistake) the banana pudding would have vanilla wafers in it. Instead, it had torn up bread slices. Who the hell puts bread in banana pudding? Pudding is supposed to be smooth and creamy. This came out in chunks like it was previously frozen. This pudding looked and tasted like something that should have been thrown out last week. Overall, the food and prices were pretty consistent with each other. My late grandmother used to live on McReynolds St. so I am no stranger to that part of town. Food was pretty much what I expected but there was no excuse for the service. I will not be in any hurry to return. Just bear in mind this is a cash only business and it was chilly in there and when somebody opened the door it became that much colder.

You get what you pay for here. You are paying people to make you what you could have made at home. really cheap.

Definitely a mom and pop hole in the wall. Great prices and the breakfast was definitely done right. It's down home country cooking. Beware: cash only and in a shady part of town. Luckily there is a convenience store across the street.
