This has been a favorite stop of mine since I was a child. It has not changed much. I love the foot long dogs, and of course the frosty mugs of root beer.

Serves was excellent! Atmosphere was cool and the Rootbeer floats were awesome! I had the big t, which lived up to its name! My wife had a BLT, she wasn't happy with it because they used a bread heal on half her sandwich! Who uses the heals on a sandwich?

Everything was great the food was great service was awesome . She was very peppy and nice. I had a foot long Coney with onion rings and a root beer. Mmmmmmm classic yet simply elegant. I love these types of restaurants, I'm not a safisicated man and this food is better then a filet mignon to me

Is the harbinger of Spring really the robin? Here in Southwest Ohio we think Spring is heralded by the annual opening of the Root Beer Stande. The Root Beer Stande actually opened a few weeks ago (that was stealth!) and perhaps we didn't notice it because of all the wintry weather we have been having. It has indeed been a hard winter! And you know that means cabin fever is everywhere, and on the first really good weather day we had a few days ago, people were out and about in force. We decided to open the car windows and sunroof and enjoy this (brief!) bit of mild weather to kick back our heels and enjoy some really casual fast food for a snack at the stand. It is obvious at once when you drive in here that no hipsters will be found, unless they have been locked away in the storage shed at the rear of the property. And all the customers here are as happy as the staff (unless they lock surly customers away in one of the many mysterious doors on the rear of the building!). It is a common summer hang-out, and often during warmer weather you will see many classic car cruise-ins, especially since this place invokes for many of us memories of the past and our childhood. It has been such for us as well, and we brought our daughter here many times since we first moved to Dayton back in the early 1990′s. She cut her teeth with an appreciation for the retro. And while this is not haute cuisine by any means, it does scratch an itch. I hope you come to enjoy the food here as much as we do. The root beer is top notch. And if the food isn't necessarily healthy, being fried and whatnot, it does make for a tasty treat once in a while. For our order we got 2 mugs root beer, 2 footlong coneys with chili and cheese, fried cauliflower, and fried pickles. The scores are as follows: Read full review here: palatablepastime.com/201…

What can I say I love the root beer stand!!! Their food is beyond amazing and their service is great!! I way all year just to eat a foot-long there! And I get sad in the winter when they have to close. Great place great memories can't wait to go back in spring!

nice little 50's-style drive-in. +1 for friendly service +1 for 5-star root beer floats (girlfriend-approved) +0 for average food on-par with most fast food joints +1 for good fries +1 for above-average fried pickles +1 for accidentally giving us an extra sandwich. score! -1 for being CASH ONLY. +0 for our food taking a while to make. recommended for the experience and root beer floats, not necessarily for the food. we'll probably return on a summer afternoon for floats.

We thought this was a great throwback to the 50's type of place - the waitress/car hop was very nice and the food was good - reasonable prices as well and really good frosty mug root beers! I would recommend the Texas Tenderloin and the onion rings and fried pickle were good also!

Been coming here for years. A Dayton original classic drive in with curb service. The root beer and coneys are the BEST !!

How awesome is this place? There just aren't any drive inns left. And I love to eat in my car. Everything is yummy!

While the kids wanted to give it 5 stars, I think it gets 4. We ate outside on the picnic tables and the owner brought us a bunch of sidewalk chalk and bubbles to use while we were waiting. The food was your typical drive-in food. A fun time was had by all! Super family friendly! We'll be back.

After driving by this my whole life, I finally stopped by the retro drive up style place known as The Root Beer Stande today. My boyfriend and I both got root beer floats and they were fantastic. We didn't get any food so I can't comment on the food. But if you want a super good root beer float in the Dayton area I would go here.

They're root beer floats are the classic, refreshing floats from my parents' generation. Outside isn't much to look at, but the service isn't that bad for what you get. Definitely recommend if you are looking for something to do after dinner.

Not many old style drive inns like this left around, a dying breed that sonic is trying to keep alive bit without the soul of the original. The root beer stande has been around for as long as I've been in Kettering and has gone through an ownership change a few years ago. I've been here numerous times over the years but this is my first time helping it. First impression of the place is that a few gallons of paint would do wonders for the place, second thing I noticed was that the two carhops were not sufficient for the amount of cars to service. The root beer was outstanding and the food was ok, the tenderloin would have been a better choice, should have known better than to stray from what I know to be good! The carhop shorted us one cup and one other food item, took forever to get her to come back out and then even longer with our missing items, we were pretty much finished eating when the missing food came out. Hopefully the owners will improve upon these simple things, I'm sure we'll be back and hope we have a better experience next time!
