My husband and I have been going here for 20 years, but no more. What once used to be pretty darned good, has now turned into an "eewwww, get it out of my mouth, it's Gross!!!" experience. The last two times were an experience. We ordered the dumplings (steamed), and got fried. When we mentioned it, the owner's daughter who's taken over came out and yelled at us. (Lady, the picture is right there on your menu), when coming over for our orders, we asked for more time to make up our minds. She just stood there staring at us until we ordered. Very uncomfortable. Shoot forward to tonight. The noodles in both out dishes were cooked to the point of mushiness where they were disintegrating. My shrimp and pork sate soup with clear rice noodles turned out to be pretty disgusting and not what I ordered. It was not sate, but clear, flavorless broth. Mushy chopped up pork, missing bean sprouts and cilantro. It took everything in me not to throw it away. (Take out). Instead I doctored with cilantro from our garden, salt, and red pepper flakes. It made it palatable after I picked all the slimy overcooked mush called noodles out of my soup. My husband got a used to be favorite. The noodles are supposed to be fried. Instead, they arrived clumped in an overcooked mush pile. Gross. Everything just has gone way, way down hill since Mama has left town. The tight ship is now sinking faster than the Titanic.

I have family in Dayton, so whenever I make my way eastward, I frequent Little Saigon. She ain't a looker but I don't go for the looks. I go for what's in store inside. I like all the food I've tried. I could eat the goi cuon (spring rolls) for days. Pho, mi, veggie duck (highly recommended), rice dishes, bun, you name it they're all good. Little Saigon is 100% authentic and the owner is very sweet. She'll become your friend if you're a regular. IIRC, no tax if you order take-out.

While this little shop doesn't look like much on the outside, the food makes all teh difference. There are a selection of appetizers and fried noodle dishes, but the real stars are the soups. Ranging from the chicken and rice porridge to the duck and mushroom weekend special, these are packed full of flavor and will leave you questioning your definition of comfort food. The there are a variety of meats (or veggie options), noodles, and soup bases. Some soups are spicy and some aren't. The owners will give you a funny look if you suggest making a dish spicy that doesn't come that way. I always say that the chef knows best, so I eat it they way they tell me too. One word of warning: the spicy food here is the spiciest i've ever had, so try this with caution. Also, if you have cash, the would prefer you pay with that.

The one star I give is solely for the authenticity of the food. The owner or the cook is Vietnamese. I figured it out from the taste of the Pho. But to many negatives add up and take over these positives. I will NOT go back to the place again. The quality of food material is beyond UNACCEPTABLE. I ordered Pho with beef. The noodles in the Pho tastes INTERESTING. It probably came from kitchen leftovers. The size of the food is too small. The size of the pho was half of the size in other Viet places. And they don't have the coffee on the menu. So why don't tell the customer in advance?? Why don't you remove it from the menu? The presentation of the food is horrible. My friend ordered curry with beef. Well, except onions, we did not see many beef. DONT GO TO THAT PLACE UNLESS YOU WANT TO EAT BAD FOOD!'

I love Little Saigon like nobody's business. It was my first love. Ok, so it wasn't like I hadn't consumed mad quantities of various other asian cuisine before, but it was the first time I had Vietnamese food - and it was fantastic. After my first trip here I was a regular for months and months on end before leaving the Ohio area. I've had more than my share of Lemongrass Chicken and Bun with imperial rolls courtesy of Little Saigon. I'm now living in California and I still eat Vietnamese food regularly. Would Little Saigon hold up to San Francisco's impressive list of Vietnamese power houses (i.e. Tu Lan, Dragonfly, that cafe off of Clement Street near Green Apple Books?)? Honestly, I don't know - but I know that Little Saigon will always hold a special place in my heart. Long live Little Saigon!

Great food. Tonight I had the shrimp cakes as well as the Pho (Shrimp and Pork). At first glance the pho looked a little bland, but the clear broth was packed with flavor and I couldnt stop eating it. The portions were huge and the price was right.

Excellent. Love to eat here, but have trouble finding dining mates. I think it may be the language barrier on the menu. It is confusing for we Americans and is intimidating. The food is great.

I love eating here! The food is fresh and is good portioned. I love eating here with friends because there is something for everyone, hardcore carnivore or strict vegan. The restaurant is a little sketchy from the outside, but don't judge a book by it's cover! The food speaks for itself! It is one of the only restaurants i crave here in the Dayton area.

This is the best little "hole in the wall" restaurant around for Vietnamese food! It is authentic and the servers are very accomidating and nice. We go there at least every other week or once a week to dine in or carry out. They are not open on Sundays, so be careful of that. Their soups are fantastic and their chicken w/ veggies w/ spring rolls are great. My husband loves their soft rolls.

Let's just put it this way....looks can be very deceiving. When I first saw Little Siagon on my way to school, I thought that this was visually the most unappealing restaurant that I have ever seen. The outside is very unsightly, but as I said before, looks can be deceiving. The pho at this whole in the wall is amazing. It brought me back to Philadelphia (If you have read any of my previous reviews, I talk about Philly a lot and the fabulous food there). I have had the beef, shrimp, and pork pho (I have been there 3 times now in the last 3 weeks). The soft shrimp rolls are the perfect appetizer and the pho is just the climax to a wonderful lunch. The staff looks to be all family and they are very kind. I think the woman is starting to recognize me because she pretty much knows what I order now. If you happen to be in Kettering (Lord knows why you would under normal circumstances), but this is definitely a restaurant I would recommend. Don't let the outside deter you in any way....the food makes up for the appearance.

Small restaurant. Good service. Food is very good, not quite as plentiful, bright, fresh as lihns. Vegetarian cold spring rolls good. Crepe very good.

I probably couldn't live without Asian food at this point in my life, and Little Saigon most definitely has its place. A huge selection (it's own menu in fact) of vegetarian food and a lot of authentic stuff. The veggie satay is my favorite, and try some of the spicy chili sauce on the table, it makes everything better. They are friendly and although my fiance did have a dispute with one of the women over thick vs thin (which evidently is fried vs not) noodes, this is a place we love. The veggie soft rolls are the bomb.

Oh, how I love Little Saigon. The restaurant is tiny and the atmosphere leaves much to be desired, but the food is outstanding. A requirement for any vegetarian or vegan!

Thanks to Yelp. I found this restaurant that's only 1 mile from my office. Went in and ordered a shrimp roll and a beef & meatball pho. It was so delicious. Their pho is different from the pho I am used to but it was all good. The price is very reasonable and the owner is definitely friendly!! Would definitely go again during my next business trip.

Friendly service and a huge, veggie-friendly menu put this small "hole in the wall" Vietnamese restaurant a bit above most of them, for me. I can't speak for the meat-containing dishes, but the braised veggie duck is great. This is one of my top choices for vegetarian-friendly dining in Dayton.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuummy ! Had a great meal today it was a crispy spring roll, sweet and spicy soup , and spicy beef and vegi dish that was excellent . Portions were large. Very small dine in area. The staff very friendly . I recommend this place for any one wanting to try Vietnamese food . Loved it !

Good food and good service. Their soups are wonderful. Decor is not quit as nice as it could be but it is by no means horrible.

Well after reading all the reviews I figured this place deserves a chance. My Vietnamese girlfriend and my self enjoyed the meal. The two ladies working which I'm assuming are mother and daughter were friendly. And made sure we were enjoying our time. The bubble tea is made fresh which is a bonus. There's a large selection of dishes to chose from. One star is just because the mother kept telling my girlfriend I'm handsome in Vietnamese.

I love this place. It is a real hidden gem. Get over the decor and eat some damn good Vietnamese and Chinese food. Egg drop soup- excellent. Soft shrimp rolls- excellent. I always get this amazing thick rice noodle dish as my main course, I could eat it every day.

Like everyone says dont judge this book by its cover- the outside is not impressive but the food sure is. Recently they updated the decor and got new silverware and plates etc, this really helps with the feel of the inside now and there's nothing I can complain about. The food is always, consistently delicious, it has a freshness and homemade taste that's great. I love the soft shrimp rolls, egg rolls are great, egg drop soup is better than any Chinese restaurant in the area. There are literally dozens of entrees to choose from, I love the stir fried noodles. They're just as good at the Chinese dishes as their Vietnamese dishes which is quite impressive. Also I can't write a review of this place without saying how friendly the service is every single time I'm in. It's a family business and you can tell they truly value their customers.

Went here for a date and was completely surprised. Food was amazing. Atmosphere I don't believe really matters. Its nice but you can tell most of their energy goes toward the food not an interior decorator. Fantastic all around mom and pop place.

It's ok. Restaurant was recommended by a local person I met on the plane. She raved about the spring rolls. Well, she was right about the spring rolls - very simple and light. Get one of those! My entree was the vegetables with tofu in sate over thick noodles. Noodles were really yummy, tofu was pretty well prepared. Bot the veggies were just about all cauliflower and onions and the sauce was just so-so. Even Thai hot, it was kind of tame. Not bad, just ok. Will try something else next time I'm in Dayton, I believe.

This place was hard to review. I wanted to give it 4 stars, but i cant. Here's the atory. The place is this ugly green buildinf, you cant miss it. This doesnt really matter though. Just makes it easy to find. At 1145 i was their only customer. Not too surprising, but still a little odd. You can order the rolls one at a time, which is great. The fried roll was like an egg roll wrapper filled with almost cha gio innerds. The fish sauce was sparae and overly filled with carrot. Way too much carrotness. The shrimp summer rolls have ahrimp and pork, which is great, and the insides were pretty good. A good bit of noodle, shrimp, and greenery. I got the pho bo tai. I was confused for a minute. Wasnt sure what i was orderinf, as ive always seen it referred to as pho tai. Maybe its the well done flank version, i thought. I asked for the meat on the side, as i always do and got an odd look in response, making me feel sure it waa the well done flank. To my pleasant surprize they brought out a pho tai with the meat on the side. A few things caught me by surprise immediately. That meat is very thick and large slices, those noodles are odd, and that broth tastes...different! The noodles are oddly thick and flat, not like normal pho noodles. The broth, i nailed it down, has lime juice in it by default, instead if just kn on the side. Finally, no basil is given on the fresh side plate, or jalapenos. So this is good to fill a viet fix, but just didnt quite make the yay category

I just moved in town and wanted to try some of the local Pho. I dated a Vietnamese girl for over 2 years so I wasnt expecting much from some place in Dayton. Well I was wrong, this Truly mom and pop place blew my mind. The food is authentic and traditional. The Pho was tasty and number 96, I have no idea what it was, my gf ordered it, but it was amazing! The only maybe downside was the noodles they choose to put in the Pho. The were flat and thick. Not like the normal pasta I'm use to with Pho. Ether way, the service was great. I will return over and over again! PS it's a hole in the wall place. The outside makes it look dirty/shady, but man oh man! You are in for a delight!

UPDATE: I went back to have an order of cold rolls and Pho with beef. I walked in and the place was empty and there were three or four buckets placed around the restaurant catching water from a leaky ceiling. Of course, i was seated right next to a bucket so hearing the intermittent water drops was like Vietnamese water torture. Luckily I had my earbuds with me so i was able to listen to a podcast to block out the drips. We had just gotten hit with about 6 inches of snow the previous day so I assume that was the culprit for the massive leaks. The napkin on my table had dirt on it that had fallen from the ceiling. The cold roll was inexplicably served to me piping hot from the microwave (wtf?). ever tasted microwaved rice paper? It was hard as a rock and inedible; I still have no idea how that was sent out like that. I had it taken off of the bill without issue. The pho itself was ok but the thinly sliced beef was about a quarter inch thick which is too thick. I wasn't given enough bean sprouts to add to the soup and the lime I was given to squeeze into my pho was dried out and clearly left over from the previous day's service. I've eaten here probably 5-7 times since living here but I can't see myself going back. What a shame.

If it wasn't for some of my friends raving about Little Saigon and going twice in as many days I would have never thought of eating here. Hell I bet I wouldn't even know for sure if it was open or not. Thank god for friends and good taste in food. My girl and I split an order of noodles with chicken and shrimp and it was plenty for both of us. The sauce was tasty and had a nice little bit of kick to it and the veggies were crisp and fresh. The chicken and shrimp were cooked and tasty but what put this dish over the top were the noodles. They get crispy in parts but are still soft in others and are some of the best noodles I've had anywhere. I can't wait to go back!

I have sentimental attachment to Little Saigon. For a long time the only viable Vietnamese joint in town. I had my first soft rolls here...bean thread noodles, shrimp. Fresh herbs wrapped in softened ricepaper. My fav here is still the vermecellI lemongrass salad...layers of chicken, onion, noodles, bean sprouts and lettuce served with nuoc mam, the condiment of Vietnam. Be prepared for a small living room like dining area...really. More like Saigon than Ohio. There are recent Viet restaurants that I think are on a bit higher level than this, but I still come here once a month...comfort food.

I got the standard pho here and it was good, but not great. As another reviewer mentioned, there is no basil with the pho and there is something else that's missing in the broth. The beef wasn't as tender as I've had in other pho. The service was great, I was in a rush and was in and out in a half hour. Hot tea came with the meal, nice touch.

I wasn't a huge fan of this place. It is a little dirty. The food was ok but it was authentic. The service is great. Very mom and pop.

In the Dayton area, this is hands down the best place to go to for Vietnamese food. The outside does look a bit shabby to the point where I initially wondered if they were a closed-down business, but once you step in, it's actually pretty decent inside. Our server was very nice and friendly (a refreshingly different experience from the other Vietnamese restaurant in the area). Their spring rolls appetizers are super crunchy and very tasty--it makes me want to try their vermicelli with mini spring rolls dish next time. For my main dish, I had pho with beef slices and meatballs. I do miss the tendon and tripe and all those extra pieces that I'm used to getting with pho at Vietnamese restaurants back in the northeast, but I guess not many people around here would eat that kind of stuff. The quality of the beef slices and meatballs, however, make up for it--these beef slices here were more flavorful than I'm used to, and the meatballs were absolutely amazing. They were seriously the best meatballs I've had in pho anywhere, including Vietnamese restaurants in major cities like NY and Boston. I'll definitely be back.

A tiny building, I almost felt like I was sitting on top of the person at the table next to me which was a bit uncomfortable. I was all set to try something on the menu besides the Pho but the waitress later came out and told me they couldn't make it. Ended up getting Pho anyways, it was okay but I've had better in the Dayton area.

I am married to the world's pickiest eater. He was strictly a meat and potatoes man until we went to Little Saigon. I couldn't believe he was actually eating vegetables and loving it! One of my favorite appetizers is the shrimp on sweet potatoes then deep fried. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. We got to visit with the owner, and she is charming and has a great sense of humor. We can't wait to go back.

If you happen to be in Dayton and you're jonesing for Vietnamese, this will do. It's not great, but it's okay. The place looks like a dump on the outside, but the inside is clean. There's a nice variety on the menu and the service was excellent. It was the food that brought me down. Everything was decent, but nothing was as good as other Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. The fried butterfly chicken and butterfly shrimp appetizers were bland (and the shrimp was overcooked). The fried shrimp cake with sweet potatoes was okay, but not outstanding. My Pho showed promise, but the noodles were NOT the normal rice noodles you get in authentic restaurants. The noodles were too wide and too tough. We passed on dessert. My expectations for Vietnamese in Dayton were pretty low, so from that perspective this place succeeded.

My friend and I were out and thinking about going to Lihn's. But. From where we were, it was far and we were hungry. She said this was a pretty good place. Key word: WAS. We began our journey there with glasses of water, which the waitress/hostess picked up by the tops of the glasses to move them before she brought the appetizer. We didn't have straws, so I found myself trying to drink from a spot she didn't touch. You just don't do that. The appetizer was lacking. There was some pork thing on there (I don't go to these places of my own accord, so I rely on my partner's assessment) that should have been grilled, but it was fried to a toughness that is indescribable. The spring rolls were good. She touched my glass. We shared an entree, as usually we go to places like this and if we order individually, it's way too much. Oops. Wrong call here; good thing we had a semi decent appetizer. I can see where there could be some charming atmosphere. I can see where the food could be good, though it was not busy and there seemed to be no rush to get us our food. The entree had beef, pork and shrimp. We could not eat the beef, becasue honestly, it tasted as if it were past spoiled. A very sour, nasty taste. We left that, fought over the few noodles that were on the plate and decided never, never again. Next time we're thinking about Lihn's, we'll just keep driving until we get there. The best part is....there's a sticker on the outside window proclaiming that it's a yelp favorite. I would love to meet THOSE people.

Shrimp summer roll should use cucumber instead of lettuce, peanut source is ok. Meatball soup is too sweet and I would like herb (basil) being serve as a side dish. Overall, it is ok

This place is pretty good! Good enough that I might just be back. The food is very nice tasting and the service is very friendly. They have a rather small menu, which is actually a good thing as far as I'm concerned. It's certainly not the best Vietnamese food I've had, but I cannot be too choosy in this part of the world. My only complaint is that it seemed like the food had a bit too much MSG--we were feeling a little woozy and recognized the sensation.

Rated G for being too glorious!!! Highly underrated, excellent service and glorious food! Everything tastes authentic and home made. I've been here many times and I'm just fortunate this restaurant is only 4 minutes away from work. The only thing that would make it more perfect is if it was walking distance of 4 minutes. The lady is super sweet and she does everything she can to make sure you are taken care of. She almost feels like an aunt - it's unreal how much she cares about ensuring you're happy with the food. IMO I think their iced coffee is fantastic and is the only thing I look forward to besides pho while working in this area. I love this place and I'm glad I found this restaurant on yelp. If anything, just give this place a chance! :)

Hello magical banh mi sandwiches... I didn't expect to find such good Vietnamese food in this location. I'm not fond of Lihn's bistro, and this was my second time here. (The first time was years ago and I don't remember my experience.) The inside is a bit old looking. But I knew from the smell of the restaurant as I walked in that the food was going to be good. Most everyone in our group was vietnamese, so the waitress kept with that dialect. Unfortunately for me, I can't speak it despite being so, so there was a bit of a disconnection there. :'( When I ordered my banh mi #28 she suggested that it was dry and asked if I wanted some soup. I said yes at first...but then realized she was upselling me. When I questioned her about that, she laughed in broken English and told me it was her job. It was quite hilarious. But I didn't get the soup. Nice try. Everyone else ordered pho. ...I tried a sip of my boyfriend's and it was flavored quite nicely. Ginseng... lemongrass... it was very good broth. I can't get over how delicious my sandwich was. I finished well before everyone else and looked around at their food... realizing I was still hungry. So I ordered another one. And yes, it was just as delicious as the first! That's how I know it was good... I didn't slow down until it was completely devoured. If this restaurant was a bit closer, I'd probably order this sandwich SO much. At 4.95 each, they're also very cheap. Yum. ^.^

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
