I LOVE this place! I HATE places like chipotle/qudoba, so when I was dragged here by my boyfriend I was ready for the worst experience ever.... But I was saw the light! I have returned here so many times, and will continue to. Fusian actually takes care that it's ingredients arent rotten and are taken care of before customers order them. The staff has always been friendly. The dining area is well kept and clean. Fusian is definitely a place that is great for those new to sushi! They can pick what they want rather than being stuck with something they're not sure of. Please please go here if you're wanting a new sushi place! It's hip! And it's way better than sumera!

This is a fusion Japanese restaurant that focuses on sushi. The method is similar to Chipotle: Choose a wrap, protein (tuna, salmon etc), vegetables and topping. The staff was friendly. One person, perhaps a manager heard me say this was my first time and they gave us free drinks. They have different types of cold tea drinks. I sampled 4 or 5 before selecting one and they were all great! the food quality was good and I loved the tea. The environment was modern and the service friendly. The only downside was quantity for price. Since its sushi its not filling and for $7-$8 for the sushi itself anyone other than light eaters may leave hungry. I am a large eater so we went for a sub after, see the next review ha ha. But the place is great and should be tried. Its located next to the University of Dayton and parking is in the back and plentiful.

As my review, I have to brag on the consistently awesome staff, they really make the entire experience so much better. I do love the sushi, but the customer service is just phenomenal. This is the letter I just wrote to the manager. Jon, I patroned your restaurant this evening and I had to ask for your contact information so I could brag about how wonderful your employees were. I brought a little girl with me (my next door neighbor) so she could try sushi for the first time. Coco waited on us, she took 15 minutes (as there was no line and the establishment was about to close) to carefully explain all the ingredients she could put in her roll and made her two custom rolls with different combinations of protein and veggies so she could "try everything". It made this little girl's day. It was all she talked about the rest of the night. (And she loved the sushi) she even reminded me to "thank coco and God bless her". Coco even paid for the roll herself. Gordon also came over to check on us several times, gave us another fantastic roll., and was exceedingly nice. No one even rushed us out although we realized (after the fact) that the store was closed. The entire staff was a delight. I've never written a thank you to a business before but this truly warranted thanks. I have not been to many Fusian locations but I am a customer for life now. I will be writing the same in the review I leave on yelp, and I guarantee I will be back with more of my friends soon. Thank you for hiring such wonderful staff.

-1 star for being a chain. But honestly. I love it. The food is high quality. I'm never sad with my roll. I love customizing it. Sure it's pricier than regular fast food but it's not regular fast food. The sides are delish. Cucumber and seaweed salad alik

I am not a huge sushi fan and I expect if you ARE and know really good sushi, you may not think this place is all that awesome. It is essentially like Chipotle for sushi where you go down a line and create your own roll. I think it's nice that they have cooked meats in addition to raw so if you're squeamish about it, no worries. I have been here a few times and it is always packed with students but it moves pretty quickly. The workers are friendly and it was started by some local UD grads which I think is pretty cool.

  • Benjamin D.

I cannot believe that I have never reviewed Fusian, seeing as how I went there once a week while in grad school at UD. Basically the Chipotle of sushi (I am sure they hate this comparison). This is a good thing though, as you hand pick everything that goes into your roll. Also, some girl mentioned it on The Valley once so there's that.

I just moved to Dayton a few weeks ago and heard nothing but amazing things about this place. So naturally, I had to check it out! Definitely did not disappoint. I love the concept of "create your own sushi." Simple, fresh ingredients that taste great. This is a good spot for those who are trying sushi for the first time. I loved the agave lemonade and the cucumber salad. And of course, the staff were very nice and attentive. I'll definitely be stopping by again whenever I'm feeling a sushi craving!

  • R B.

Don't go here if you're a sushi snob. As a mere commoner (who appreciates good sushi but also occasionally lowers myself to appreciate a good deal), I'm all about the quality and amount for the price. One roll fills me up. No soft drink machine, just a variety of house-made lemonades and teas. The person comparing this place to Taco Bell must eat at a much better Taco Bell than I do. But regardless, no one goes to Taco Bell expecting authentic Mexican. Or complains on Yelp about it. At least I hope not.

  • Mark C.

First time here and loved it. It is just like Chipotle for sushi. I had tuna roll and a salmon roll. After you pick your protein you pick all the veggies you want and sauce for topping. Price is not bad, $7.50 a roll, and it was as good as what I've had in finer restaurants and paid allot more for. Will definitely be back. Hope they open more locations.

First time here after hearing some positive things from co-workers and yelp reviews and I'm glad I tried it and will probably go again since it's kind of the only sushi-ish option around. Like other posters have said, it's basically a sushi roll chipotle. It's fast, good portions, decent flavors but fairly utilitarian. I ordered a shrimp tempura and salmon roll. I was surprised by the machines. I didn't even know they had a machine to layout the rice and cut the rolls. I'm trying to figure out if it takes away the magic or not. Anyway, they have a decent selection of additions including avocado, blanched asparagus, carrots, scallions, jalapenos and more to go with your protein. Their wasabi has a kick and their ginger is a nice palate cleanser. The only thing that wasn't great was the shrimp tempura which had been fried earlier and was not crunchy. It really doesn't take long to fry a piece of shrimp or to refry it to crisp it up but it's not my restaurant. I'll be back but there's not much room to experiment or try anything new.

I come here at least once a week, good food great people

As a sushi fanatic, Fusian is to sushi as Taco Bell is to REAL Mexican food. It's sushi for the masses who don't know what real sushi is. The nori is chewy. The rice is bland and obviously needs more work. They don't get sushi grade fish because they have to marinate the heck out of it to even make it safe to eat. Steer clear of this chain. I'm disgusted about how many people have fallen into Fusian's trap.

This place was great! Such a great idea! The people were so nice and the restaurant was open and bright and very welcoming. Parking is around back so go to the end of the block and its behind the strip of restaurants! You can even enter from the back if you want. It was very similar to a chipotle, choose your paper (rice or seaweed), choose your rice, choose your poultry (I chose tuna), and then choose all the veggies you want (I had avocado, green onions, cucumber, cream cheese, and carrots), and then they roll it up and cut it with this nifty tool and then you can put sauces and some toppings on it. (I put spicy mayo, sweet soy, crunchy tempura, and added crab mix for an extra $1.50). I also had the agave gingerade. Everything was delicious and worth the $10. Very filling!! I will definitely come back!

Fusian is a great place to go for a quick bite! I used to go between classes or even for a quick dinner before spending the rest of the night studying. The fish and vegetables are always fresh and the staff is super friendly. They are always in a good mood and making jokes. Going to Fusian always makes my day better.

  • J W.

This is a great place for those who are new to sushi. You get to pick exactly what you want in your roll from meat to veggies to sauces, so you'll always get something you know you'll like. A nice alternative to a fast food lunch. Restaurant is clean and located in a beautiful area on University of Dayton's campus. Staff is always friendly and even though I'm sure they see thousands of face a week, they always seem to remember my name. Highly recommended!

  • Brad L.

For those who do not like sushi, don't fret, Fusian is the place to go and start! I hate myself for not eating here more and can't wait for more locations. Great environment with great workers. I recommend the crab mix, with any veggies they have, avocado, cucumber, jalapeños, cream cheese, carrots, etc. They always have a veggie of the month so keep an eye out on their Instagram or twitter for updates each month! The Sweet Soy sauce on top of the sushi is a great choice and i always hit it up with a side of Spicy Mayo.

  • Monica S.

Yum yum yum and yum. This place is incredible. This was my first experience and it was phenomenal and if I lived in Dayton, I'd eat here every day. No joke. They use a completely different, clean station to cut vegetarian sushi to not cross contaminate. This is the first restaurant I've not had to specifically ask to use a separate knife or get weird looks or sass for being vegetarian. The staff is so friendly, kind, and helpful. Not to mention the sushi is best I've ever had. My mind is blown. Please come to Cleveland!!!

  • Ross N.

First-time visit, had no idea what I was getting myself into, ordered the tuna sea-weed wrap with a friend. Added a bunch of veggies, avocado, cream-cheese. I thought I was getting a sushi burrito. Then they cut it with the machine... OH, I see. It's a Chipotle-style sushi roll. Topped it with eel sauce and spicy mayo and it was actually really good! I was a little skeptical as they were making it because it looks like you're not getting much but this was awesome. I would totally eat here again.

  • Meag H.

I absolutely love this place and a trip to visit my family isn't complete without a stop here! My only complaint is that I wish it'd come to Chicago!

  • K M.

Good if you're new to sushi. Not good if you know what sushi is supposed to taste like.

  • Allison K.

So proud to know that UD grads started this joint! I order every veggie they got, add the crunchy tempura and spicy mayo, and scarf it down just as quickly as they put it together for me.

    (5)
  • Danielle I.

I do not consider this real Sushi. The rice was not right like normal sticky rice, so it ruined the roll for me. It just has a rushed atmosphere all together.

    (2)
  • John K.

Pretty neat concept for sushi preparation the likes of which I have not seen. Perhaps there is a reason for that though as the meat was not fresh, even considering the location, with a hard sushi wrap but okay sauces. If you know sushi, well, you will have a difficult time eating here. All that being said, the staff was very pleasant and the store was well laid out. I would say try it if you are new to sushi, but only to know that there is much better sushi in the world. Of course, you can't really expect greatness for $7.50 per roll. Bonzai!

    (3)
  • Chris W.

Excellent sushi, large portion. Many toppings if you want. Excellent for lunch , they work through the line of customers very quickly.

    (4)
  • Doug S.

Don't forget to ask for wasabi and soy sauce or you may deliver $50 in sushi to unhappy coworkers. I think their food is usually pretty good but I was disappointed when I called and they told me I should have asked for the basic ingredients that come with every other sushi I have ever ordered! I gave them 2 stars because I didn't want to come across as the raging hater....that I was when I hung up the phone.

    (2)
  • Megan V.

Super great if you want a bite of sushi without a sit down restaurant. A very user friendly ordering style though if you are a sushi lover there is limited choice. I frequently order the tuna roll with the seaweed wrap and masago topping. (Which is piled on and only one dollar to add!) Not to mention the ginger lemonade tea is absolutely amazing!

    (5)
  • Dan H.

Good, quick, design-it-yourself style sushi. I recommend the tuna, cucumber, avocado seaweed roll with sriracha mayo, eel sauce, masago and tempura crumbles. This is basically a Japanese chipotle. Not the best sushi in the world but a great, cheap, and quick option.

    (4)
  • Ryan M.

If I had money for a franchise, this would be it. It's like a subway except the bread is rice/seaweed and the meat is fish etc. amazing idea, cheap and delicious.

    (5)
  • Taylor S.

Always impressed with the level of service and the quality of the sushi they serve. There is a broad selection of proteins, veggies and other things you can have on your sushi and it is all delicious!

    (5)
  • Rafael M.

love this concept. it is the chipotle of sushi, with you choosing your ingredients and the way you want yours done. aside from the great food, i especially appreciate the environmentally conscious incentives that the place takes. and they have some legit beverage options too. greatly recommend, would definitely return

So many things to cover on how awesome Fusian is. 1) Make your own rolls - and it doesn't have to contain fish! 2) Even if you don't like sushi, you can eat at Fusian. They have cooked protein options for non-sushi eaters (steak, chicken, shrimp, etc.) 3) Great tasting items in the "bar" to add to your roll 4) They have compost and recycling bins...no trash cans. LOVE that. 5) Community table setting in the middle of the dining area is an awesome idea! Fusian is similar to the set up of Chipotle, but with rolls. A couple of my old roommates were turned off by the fact that this is a "sushi" place. We convinced them to join us and when one of them tried the shrimp roll that we made, she was sold. The roll that I came up with ended up being delicious - a huge surprise, considering I have no idea how to match things together when it comes to sushi. I tried the shrimp tempura on one half of my roll and salmon on the other half. (Loved the flexibility of that, too!) Good sized pieces of salmon and shrimp too, for those that are concerned with being shafted on their amount of sushi in a roll. Plenty of options for what to add to your roll on top of the protein piece, and even the sauces and other toppings had a great selection. Living in Chicago, I can't wait until one of these opens up here! I will certainly be back to eat at Fusian whenever I visit Cincy or Dayton, and I can't wait for that day.

This was an awesome surprise. Lots of great, fresh ingredients. Very speedy. Good options for vegetarians. Loved it so much, I actually came back the next morning before leaving town to pick up a to-go roll!

this was the first time I had sushi, and I tried the steak, it was not bad. I thought it was defiantly different from anything else I have tasted.

  • Bethany B.

Love this place!!! The sushi is tasty and a nice variety (including vegan)! The tofu is roasted and seasoned to yummy delicious perfection that even the non-vegan palette would enjoy. I stopped in with a friend that has seafood allergies and they accommodated her by preparing an allergy free roll (that she LOVED). The staff were young, knowledgeable and super friendly!!! The beverages from the teas to the lemonade were just yum yum yum !!!! Oh yeah .... I'll be back !!!

Ok, typing this from my phone, bear with me. :) Anyway, I will occasionally drive out here from Richmond, Indiana, where I go to school. Like the other reviews say, it's essentially a chipotle...but for sushi...which may be the best idea ever? Hence the near perfect score they have on yelp. There are many health-friendly options(vegan/vegetarian too!) and I believe everything in the restaurant is compostable. Wow. Excellent. Cheap, fast, delicious, healthy, sustainable- excellent combination. But, the main point of this review and the 5 stars, is for the excellent service I've received the handful of random times I've been here. People working here could be crappy and people would still flock because of the reasons listed above. BUT the people have been really excellent and kind and funny. Seriously. It's ridiculously refreshing. I can get really sick and fed up with these transactionary (not a real word ;)) and/or fake interactions. But, the people I've talked to seem really nice. There is one guy in particular asks how people's days are and strikes up conversation. But like, genuinely. Haha. I mean it. It's so awesome. I hope your manager reads this and tells you it's greatly appreciated! Yeah, yeah it may be a small gesture, but enough to significantly brighten one's day- especially in a world that seems to be zoned out and disconnected (under the guise of hyper-interconnectedness). Keep it up! :) Thank you!

Best sushi this California/Hawaii native has had in Ohio. Don't let the 'fast food assembly line' turn you away from trying this place. We tried 3 of their 'Suggested Rolls' (California, Shrimp Tempura Roll w/Crab, and Surf and Turf). We also had the edamame, miso soup, and all the sauces they offer. Everything was fresh and full of flavor. They are also very 'eco friendly'.

  • Debbe T.

I went here for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. My husband dubbed it Build Your Own Sushi. This is done in fast food style of standing in line. You pick your wrap seaweed or soy lined with rice. Then you choose your protein choice, and vegetable options. They roll it, cut it then you choose your sauce preference. Add some wasabi and ginger on the side and you are good to go. It was amazingly good. They have a limited alcohol selection of sake and beer. All rolls are under $10 and are a decent size of 10 pieces.

I come here often. The staff are very friendly. My fav rolls are phildaphia roll ( smoked salmon) and shrimp tempura. I tried their caviar once it wasn't pleasant experience. The prices are ok. This restaurant is what i call chipotle sushi they have the same concept. They just add drinks to their menu , i tried to mix lemonade with cucumber and mint it was bit watery and tasteless.

  • Jamie L.

What a great concept! You build your own sushi and they are made in front of you. It's fresh and delicious with sesame seeds topping and no dressing, just the way I like it! I would definitely visit it again when I visit Dayton again.

  • Kevin Y.

This place is pretty awesome, choose your vegetables, fish/meat, they wrap and slice it right in front of you... All for about $6. Great lunch

  • Amar M.

Really great sushi and experience. I had no idea what to expect and they helped me with what to choose. I also was starving when I ordered and didn't think it would be enough food but it was really filling. I will be back

  • Michael R.

Assembly line sushi? What a simple but unique concept! Went to the Dayton location craving a tasty meal without a wait & Fusian was the perfect choice. The staff was amicable, accommodating & fun. The options were numerous but not overwhelming. We got three rolls and the fish was fresh, the asparagus was crispy & the veggies were all on point. I'm not a fan of tofu but even the tofu looked good. They were generous with the imitation crab and the sauces. I could go on & on but they have every sauce you could possibly want! Overall, it was a great experience and we will be back soon! Recommendations: wasabi mayo, asparagus, any of the fish... Boom!

Such an amazing concept, the Chipotle of sushi! The ingredients are insanely fresh, super friendly staff and laid back environment. I eat here at least once a week and crave it all the time...it's that good!

    (5)
  • Rick C.

Very nice way to have a quick roll. Every roll is made in front of you so you can customize it to your tastes. The ingredients are fresh and the staff is informed and outgoing when it comes to suggestions. No shushing or sashimi for sale, just rolls. Prices are reasonable.

    (5)
  • Taylor B.

Not the best sushi I've ever had, but it's very good for cheap sushi. It's like the chipotle of sushi. You walk in, chose what you want and not want. They roll it, cut it, place it and yum! Lol

  • Elizabeth H.

Went here today for the first time and was really impressed. I made two rolls and got a seaweed salad. I threw out the salad, I did not like it at all. Both rolls I created were a better version of what I can pick up at Kroger. If I want excellent rolls I'll stick to Cho's or Thai 9, but for a quick dinner or lunch at a reasonable price this place is great!

  • Leanna L.

If you're not a sushi snob, you'll probably like it. Great place for a quick sushi roll and you can customize it however you want. They occasionally have special limited time menu items, I had a roll with cranberries once and it was tasty.

Tonight was my first visit to Fusian. The staff was very friendly when they found it was our first visit. They took time and showed patience in walking us through all the yummy options available. Almost too many to process. But really enjoyed the "pick your own" approach to the ingredients and had some fun with it. The seating area was pretty clean, but there were a few tables that needed a good clean cloth to wipe them down. Luckily there were plenty of other clean tables. The food did not disappoint all the hype from friends. Both my daughter and I took one bite and we were hooked! The fish was flavorful and fresh! The other ingredients were just as fresh. Overall, very happy with our first visit to Fusian, but definitely will not be our last.

  • Danny D.

Incredibly fresh, tasty ingredients at an unbeatable price, what's not to like? You build your own "sushi" roll, who knows what you like better than yourself? Tons of options to fit anyone's taste. I love to eat and one roll is beyond filling. A must try!

  • Tonya R.

This place is wonderful!!! The staff was very pleasant and helpful. Everything was so fresh. I had the seaweed wrap, tempura shrimp, cream cheese, cucs and asparagus with spicy mayo and it really hit the spot. It is set-up very similar in set-up to a Chiptole. It surprises me to see anything less than 4 stars for this place. Nice setting area, tons of fresh veggies, which I prefer. My only disappoint is that it is about 45 mins. away from where I live. I wanted way to long to try this place out. Go there today don't delay!

Vegans sometimes get the short stick when it comes to sushi. I can't tell you how sad I am when I go to a new restaurant and my options are cucumber roll or avocado roll. However, as soon as I heard about Fusian, a Chipotle-style sushi cafe, where you can pick all the items you want on your roll, I pretty much dropped everything to go there. First of all, I was VERY happy with my roll, mostly because IT WAS HUGE! I chose all the vegetables, which included asparagus, cucumber, carrots, avocado, jalapeno, and green onion. The seasonal veg was radish (free). I was very sad to hear that I missed the last seasonal veg -- sweet potato -- but I am sure that it will come around again. These get changed from month to month, and they update people about the pick of the month on facebook. Tofu is an option! It's great. Definitely try it. Quick tip: my request for extra avocado was accepted without hesitation or upcharge! We vegans have the choice of four sauces: sweet soy, sweet chili, yakisoba sauce, and Sri Racha. (For those of you unfamiliar with Sri Racha, it is a slightly sweet hot sauce with a cult following). The sweet soy sauce was pretty good but I want to try the others ASAP. I opted for sesame seeds as a topping, but I could have gotten tempura crunchies too. The sesame seeds were really amazing! Freshly toasted and just amazing. The wasabe and ginger were pretty standard and were good. A vegetable roll is $5 and is very filling in my opinion. Tofu adds $1.50. I added a side of seaweed salad for $3, which was good and fresh -- not fishy tasting at all, like old seaweed salad tastes like sometimes. If I wanted more protein, I could have added a side of edamame for $1.75, or spicy edamame for $2. My husband got the miso soup for $1.75, and he said it was good, and pretty much the same as anywhere. You can't see it in the picture, but the soup has seaweed and tofu in the bottom. I was so relieved that Fusian doesn't use fish sauce in their miso soup, and I will be back for some, especially at that price. Other side items of interest may include carrot ginger salad and cucumber salad, but I have not inquired about the veganness of these items yet. I will ask about them the next time I'm in. I didn't mention the wrap options yet... you can choose between nori (seaweed, traditional), or a soy wrap. Don't get too excited about the soy wrap, though... because it's not inari. It's a green square of soy... a little unnatural-looking. I haven't tried it yet because I love seaweed so much. No offense, soy wrap. You might be magically delicious! If anyone tries it, please let me know. I am very curious. I wanted to let you know that it's not inari in case you're an inari girl like I am and had your hopes up just a little. The staff is very friendly, the decor is smart and urban, and the location was upscale (in the new building on Brown Street). I was really impressed with the environmentalism of Fusian. Their cups for side items are compostable, as are the dipping cups that hold soy sauce. We were able to recycle my water cup and my husband's iced tea bottle in a bin next to the trash slot. The spoon was even compostable. I really applaud the ecofriendliness! Another bonus: the owners are local: they only have two Fusians (Dayton and Cincy). All in all, we had a great meal for under $20, which is my price point. With the added bonuses of supporting a small local chain and the green packaging, I'll definitely be going back again soon.

Great place to eat. This is the second time I have eaten here and both experiences have been very good. It is basically the sushi version of Chipotle. The staff has been very friendly both times I have been here as well.

  • Shamie D.

Chipotle style sushi rolls! I am a fan. They use quality ingredients and the service is fast and friendly! I agree with all of the other comments and would recommend this place for both the ambiance and quality of food. Hey, if you don't like the roll -- it's your own fault!. I recommend the salmon roll with avocado, cucumber, carrots and lots of Sri Racha and the sesame chili powder. Wow! The Spicy edemame is basically teriyaki-style sauce spiced up with chili and sesame seeds. Park across the street behind Panera if you arn't walking. (not sure if this is allowed technically).

This place is great! The food is fresh, tasty and quick! I eat here every time I'm in Dayton or Cincinnati (love the new downtown Cincinnati location!) I haven't b Hope you keep growing and make it out to Colorado some day. Thanks for opening a great, new, fresh and different concept!

I am a super duper fan! Who would've thought that my favorite sushi in the whole world would be from Dayton, Ohio? Not this Hawaiian girl, that's for sure. Coming from Hawaii I have had sushi a million and 2 times and ya know what? This place can throw it down! They have an array of fabulously cool sushi making gadgetry manned by the coolest cats in town. Everything is fresh and oozing with tasty treats galore. Eggplant, cream cheese, fish eggs oh my! Now don't tell anyone but...I hate seafood. I am from Hawaii and detest it. The nice thing about this place is that you can have fabulous sushi rolls that consist of more than cucumber and rice. Steak, chicken, tofu...the possibilities are endless and fabulous to boot. This place is so wonderful that we drive a half an hour to dine here. You should too. You won't be disappointed!

  • Elizabeth R.

Great service here - everyone was incredibly nice, smiling and seemed to be enjoying themselves. The sushi was pretty good! You can pick your own wrap (choice of two), proteins, vegetables, sauces and toppings, like a Subway for sushi. The rolls were nice and tight, and the different options were great - not too many raw options, but they have a spicy tuna and yellowtail, which are the two I often get anyway. The miso soup was the only thing I didn't like - way too bland. The spicy edamame was nice - like a chili oil and sriracha mix over edamame. $21 for two rolls, soup and edamame - not bad! The rolls are pretty big too. Quick in and out, and I'll definitely be back! Oh, and they have beer and sake as well!

I give this mildly negative review for the sushi lover. I like sushi. I like high quality sushi--and by this I mean raw fish. I stumbled across this place on Yelp when I was looking for high-quality sushi in Dayton, and this restaurant is really well reviewed. I went back and forth for a final verdict, but ultimately, I really don't think i am in a rush to go back because I wanted sushi and saw chunks of raw fish in a cafeteria-style metal container like you could find at Subway. I am not eating raw fish out of a container like that. No way. No how. Raw fish is to be served packed in ice from behind a counter lightly wrapped in cling wrap. I still tried a roll, and my fear of the fish led me to a tofu roll with all the veggies. It was good. Plenty of food and I felt comfortable afterward--not too full and not hungry. Another problem, though, is that I don't think it is a great value. You can get a roll at a reasonable price, sure, but the base price is 5.00, so that is basically the cost of a veg roll, and I think that is a little steep. but it fills you for lunch (eh, with dessert), so I guess it is one of the few remaining $5 lunches--assuming you don't want protein, which you should; it is a building block of life. I get the appeal of this place just the same. It is an interesting idea to have more control over one's sushi roll contents. I liked that I got to jam pack it with veggies. You can explore flavors through the sauces and a very limited selection of sushi ingredients. One last thing along these lines: I didn't see an option to make it with brown rice. If you are giving me control over my sushi, let me make it better for my health with whole grains. I know it can be done. I have seen it elsewhere. Ultimately though, I have to rate it badly because I am not rating well a sushi restaurant where I didn't want to eat the fish. This is DEFINITELY a sushi restaurant for the sushi scared, not the sushi savvy.

Fast food is usually associated with poor quality and service but not so here. If you want a quick sushi fix, then this is the place to go. I appreciate the mostly locally sourced ingredients as well.

Very good, uncomplicated sushi at a great price. The yellowtail and eel were very fresh.

I know it's not a 'real' sushi restaurant. But, here is why I gave it 5 stars. We were in Dayton on a college visit. We walked in with no idea of how the Chipotle-type line worked. We were greeted by 3 of the nicest workers I have had in the longest time. The explained the process. There were 4 of us and we each had something different. We weren't expecting much but it was actually quite good. The place was clean. I thought the food was cheap. The service was also fast. I can't wait to go again.

for the price and quality- you can't beat this place. It's fast- fresh- and always tasty. Definitely not the fanciest sushi around- and their rolls are super basic- but you can build them to your likes and dislikes- and they'll always be tasty! such a great place to learn to love sushi. You can even go with chicken- or steak if you don't do the fish thing.

Staff is friendly. Food is fresh. Really good sushi rolls. 10 pieces per roll and almost enough for a hungry regular-sized man. The miso soup might be hit or miss. It was really good the first time, got it again, and it was still good, but not oh-so-good like the first time. Worth a 25 minute drive for me.

Dude, ate here today-first time ever-some worth it. I absolutely have NOTHING bad to say, environment/customer service/quality of food/recycled materials all 100% worth going (and supporting!) thank you for the experience!!

Great "fast-food" sushi! Set up just like Chipotle and Subway where the rolls are swiftly prepared right before you. Love that you can customize every step of the way from the type of wrap to the toppings. Wrap: traditional seaweed nori or soy paper. Protein (if you so choose): cooked - chicken, crab mix, crabstick, shrimp, steak, freshwater eel; and the raw - tuna, salmon, smoked salmon Veggies: asparagus, avocado, carrot, cream cheese, cucumber, green onion, jalapeño seasonal veggies Sauces: spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, sweet chili, yakisoba sauce, sriracha sweet soy Toppings: crab mix, masago, sesame chili, sesame seed, tempura crunch They also had the raw salmon available mixed with their house marinade, possibly a mix of rice vinegar with sweet soy and black sesame seeds. It wasn't bad, but I thought the marinade didn't enhance the flavor much and maybe took away from the salmon. The rolls were very good sized, each one ten pieces. One roll was enough to satisfy a lunchtime appetite. We ordered four rolls and two sodas which totalled only 28 dollars, not bad for two adults and two kids. For being fast-food sushi it was pretty good, it's definitely not the best I have ever tasted, but it was very fresh and the customer service was top-notch. The server making my roll was very personable, asking if that was our first visit (it was) and how we'd heard about them. I think he may have been one of the owners of the place, he told of how when he and his buddies would go out for sushi, they were always still hungry since the rolls were so small, hence making Fusian rolls larger than average. Also my daughter ordered a standard California roll which comes with sweet soy sauce drizzled on top, she wasn't digging that sweet soy. The owner/server asked how everything was (he checked on us several times) and I asked if he could make another Cali roll without the sweet soy drizzle. The replacement Cali roll was promptly made. I went up to pay for it, but he wouldn't accept the payment, I thought that was really cool. So while the sushi itself was pretty good (not the best, but darn good), the customer service was exemplary, hence five stars. Thanks, Fusian, hope you'll be opening a branch in Richmond, Indiana one day!

Y'know, I really didn't want to like this place, but, bottom line: it's reasonably priced, delicious, and quick. The perfect lunch place. I'll be honest, I didn't want to like Fusian because the whole idea of fast food sushi didn't sit right with me. Also, the place looks, well, trendy and the owners seem like a bunch of the "bros" I went to college with. I know -- that's shallow and irrelevant and totally presumptuous, so I put my personal feelings aside and was pleasantly surprised. Someone else compared this place to Chipotle and that's totally accurate. You'd think it's a bit harder to order sushi the way you'd order a burrito, but my sushi was delicious and all the flavor combinations of the rolls my friends ordered worked well too! The spicy mayo and sweet soy that I added to mine were mouthwatering. The portions were large -- I couldn't finish my entire roll. I paid $7. Perfect! One thing I will mention -- don't trick yourself into thinking this is a healthy place just because it's sushi. With all the free extras they offer (sauces, toppings, etc.) the calories add up. With the nutrition facts section of their website, I figured that my roll was nearly 540 calories -- roughly as much as a Big Mac. This is the kind of place that people eat at all week, gain ten pounds, and then say WHY DID I GAIN WEIGHT?! ALL I'VE BEEN EATING IS SUSHI!

I love this place. Always fresh. Staff friendly and willing to answer questions. No eye rolling teenage genius order takers. Unlimited combinations. Great seaweed salad. Not your normal stuffy sushi bar. Can eat lots of sushi while not spending a lot of cash. Located on campus of University of Dayton. So you will see a lot of college students.

Sushi meets Chipolte. Quite fine. Sushi snobs might be disappointed as it is not that adventurous, more like sushi for the masses. A great place to take someone new to sushi, they have soy wrap instead of seaweed, chicken, fake crab. This is a great place someone new to sushi can get their feet wet. The salmon and tuna were very good quality, and you get to choose your own accompaniments. The miso soup was ok, but the seaweed salad was very good. I'd certainly go again, but if a sushi aficionado wanted to go, I'd recommend one of the the more authentic sushi places in town. But I wouldn't complain, and plan on eating here again.

FUSIAN has grown to be a favorite Dayton dining spot of mine. I love the convenience, reasonable prices, fun atmosphere, and most importantly the fact that they deliver all these qualities while exceeding customer service expectations. It is owned by Dayton natives and exudes passion and creativity. Having an eye for good marketing, the brand goes above and beyond, the brand is engaging. Who knew sushi could be such a personal subject? I think it's a great initiative, adds flair to the community and gives people an opportunity to try something new. Working within minutes of the store with a job that requires me to host people in Dayton, this is now the first place I recommend.

Highly recommend. It's sushi, a la Chipotle style. Essentially you walk up and construct your own roll starting with the wrap, the meat, veggies, other ingredients, and finally with the toppings. It's a flat out Americanized sushi so don't expect much authenticity here. But it's great in a pinch and for a quick meal. The vibe is good and it's a very small chain with 3-4 locations (if that). Even more appealing is their environmentally sustainable attitude.

Today was my first time to Fusian. I love sushi, so I thought that I would give it a try. First of all, when I first walked in, I thought the place was closed. There is just a disconnect. The setting felt empty. I wasn't not greeted when I first walked in. There weren't many options to choose from, I don't care if you are able to watch them make it. I thought the price was a bit steep. It was $8.75. After eating the food, I noticed that the food was tasteless. The only thing that I remember about the food was that the food was really crunchy. So I just decided that I wouldn't eat there again. But after about a good hour, I felt terribly sick. At first I just thought it was a upset stomach, not big deal. But after going to the restroom like 4 to 5 times, I started vomiting. I was constantly vomiting! I just don't know what to make of the place, besides, I won't be going there again. I may call the health inspector!

This is a great little place for Sushi since you get to make your own. Think Chipolte for Sushi. Loved it and will go again!

if your taste for sushi is marinated fish (to cover the fishiness of the fish), rice that is crunchy and pressed to non existent by a machine, then Fusian is the place for you. Just mind blowing that they have such a high rating on Yelp. I will give credit to the staff...very friendly service..just like Chipotle. and the place was clean. Just wish the sushi was at least half way decent. A no go.

An ex coworker told me that I needed to hit 'Fusian' up b/c it was 1. Right around the corner from work 2. Inexpensive 3. GOOD sushi Today is a chilly October day so I decided to try this place on my lunch hour. It's conveniently located on Brown St(near UD's campus and right near 5/3 bank). The restaurant is nice and open and has the meal line style like Chipotle. You pick your wrap (seaweed or soy) and your meat (choices such as tuna, salmon, smoked salmon, shrimp, etc. They even have chicken and steak options (YES the chicken and steak are cooked!) for sushi newbies. After you pick your wrap and meat, you pick your veggies. They have a great selection of veggies (including asparagus, avocado, cucumbers, carrots, green onions, etc). After your veggies you pick your sauce(s) such as yakisoba sauce, spicy mayo, wasabi mayo, etc and then any toppings you'd like (I was especially fond of the tempura crunch topping) The only thing I don't particularly care for is the house "sweet soy sauce". It has a really thick consistency. It was a pain trying to mix my wasabi w/ it. For $8 I got a smoked salmon roll (w/ green onions, avocado, and cream cheese. I topped it off w/ spicy mayo and yakisoba sauce and tempura crunch) and miso soup. It's safe to say I will DEFINITELY be back!

As a vegetarian I was hesitant to try this, until a family member informed me I can choose Tofu as my "meat". I also expected it to be more expensive than it is as well. Overall it's a nice treat, and definitely something different from the typical chains popping up. In a two block area there's three burger joints (Five Guys, BK & Smashburger), three sub shops (Jimmy Johns, Subway & Sub House), two sandwich shops (Potbelly & Panera), and two burrito joints (Chipotle & Hot Head). Fusian stands out on Brown Street as unique, if nothing else. While I felt the portion may have been smaller than I was accustomed to for a similar price, I was still satisfied with the amount of food I got. I didn't leave hungry, but I wasn't bloated and ready for a nap either. While enjoyable and tasty I don't see this as a regular stop for meals, but more as an occasional treat.

I am not a sushi fan, but I really enjoyed this place. My husband convinced me to try something new and I'm glad he did. This place is like subway - you go down the line and tell them exactly what you want on your roll. They have several veggie and meat choices (including grilled tofu). The put it all on a pre-made wrap (choose between seaweed and soy), roll it up right in front of you, and put it in a big slicing contraption. You end up with a roll cut in 10 slices and they have perfect packaging for it. Most people got sauce drizzled on top, but there were so many sauces to choose from so I got several on the side and loved every one of them. We also tried the carrot ginger salad which was awesome. I want to try the seaweed salad next. The service was great, everybody was patient and kind to us newbies (who were holding up the line a bit with all of our questions). I'm looking forward to going back.

A lot of posts rip this place for not having super-quality sushi and not being fit for the sushi savvy. Well, that's not this places' intent. This place is intended to be a hip hangout that offers good food with a twist. It's a great place to meet and greet. Did I expect the best sushi when I first visited? Of course not, the prices alone will tell you that. The food is decent, yes maybe a little steep for the quality and amount, but decent anyways. Don't go there expecting the most incredible sushi you have ever had, you will be disappointed. Go there expecting to have a great time with friends while enjoying some tasty grub. If you have that mindset going in you will be satisfied. The staff is friendly and the place is clean.

Fast. Cheap. DELICIOUS. I take my non sushi loving friends here also as they have chicken, steak, tofu and cooked salmon to choose from. The sweet chili sauce is amazing! You can't go wrong with whatever you order and it's a much better alternative to other more expensive sushi options for lunch in downtown Dayton.

Interesting concept: a design it yourself sushi restaurant. Fresh ingredients, incredibly helpful staff. Fusian is definitely worth a try.

A unique sushi roll concept restaurant. It's kind of like a Chipotle; go through the line and create your own sushi roll. There is something for everyone here, even those who "ew" at the word sushi. You can make your roll as authentic as you want with eel, tuna, and masago; or if you don't care for sushi but you want to try to be cool, you can get chicken, cream cheese, and veggies. Lots of options for sauce and toppers too- tempura crunchies! The rolls are a good size; one makes a big meal. If that's not enough though, you can get a side of seaweed salad or edemame. The staff is friendly and helpful. Super cool atmosphere. Definitely a place for you to try.

For what Fusian is, it certainly deserves a 5/5 star rating. Think about it: where else can you make your own sushi, make it fast, make it environmentally consciously, and get it, a beer and a side for as much as you would pay for just a mediocre chef's roll at another Asian restaurant here in the city of Dayton? I love love LOVE Fusian. It has replaced the average fast food run for me.

I really have mixed feelings regarding Fusian. I love sushi and I love the idea of Fusian but as far as flavor it can't compare to having a trained sushi-chef prepare something fresh with top of the line ingredients. Although, if you are looking for quick sushi on a budget, I suggest giving Fusion a try.

Does Fusian have the best tasting sushi? No. Does Fusian have fancy special rolls with world class presentation? No. Well then, what does Fusian have? Fusian has a unique build your own approach to sushi that has turned sushi into a fast food instead of a sit down restaurant. The best way to describe this place to people that might be unfamiliar with it is that it is like Chipotle, only with sushi instead of burritos. The price for sushi at Fusian is right - you can get some very large and filling rolls for much less than I would pay at a typical sushi restaurant for the same thing. If you are looking for a filling a roll on the cheap, I would definitely recommend getting all the veggies, as the only thing they charge you additional for is extra meat. It also makes a great tasting roll with a lot of flavor to it.

Nice place to get fast, fresh, and good tasting sushi. I was very impressed by the service as it is always helpful and friendly. I like to get the crab mix, cucumber, and avocado combo. Not very adventurous, but it hits the spot after a long day of punting gnomes on wow.

before fusian came to dayton the only place you could find decent sushi was either at the grocery, a fine dining restaurant, or this place at the mall that you'd only want to get the sushi to go because the interior is creepy...so props to mr. harman and mr. weprin for giving the dayton people an inexpensive, quick and refreshing way to eat enjoy sushi! not only are the create your own rolls fresh, they are big! 1 roll and an order of edamame will definitely fill you up! oh and the employees are friendly and they play good music!
