A truly amazing place to eat! All of the food I've tried has been amazing. My favorites are the giant pretzel with cheese and the fish and chips. All of the food tastes fresh and not frozen, even the fish. They offer plenty of alcoholic drinks to choose from. And the sweet tea is some of the best I've had up north. The place is usually full but they have plenty of seats both indoors or outdoors so you never have to wait long. My fiancé and I have taken many people here from out of town because it is one of the best places. If you are in town it is a must visit.

If you like Schmidt's you will love Wurst und Bier. They have lunch specials that include 2 sides( one of which is fries and you get to choose the other)This is a great deal as it's the same price as a normal lunch but you get an extra side. Not all of the sides are included but the choices are still good. The food was fantastic, and our server did a great job. Order: Laugenbrezel $3.99 Five ounce fresh baked German soft pretzel. Mustard is hot, mild and sweet. The mild was good, the hot had too much vinegar, but the sweet was the best Farmer's Bratwurst (Hot) $6.99 Topped it with caramelized onions & German sauerkraut. Sides: Fries - these fries are the best Berlin Style Potato Salad -sliced imported German pickles, shallots, parsley, vinegar and mustard in a light mayonnaise dressing. German Potato Soup

Service is slow, tables are sticky, and the condiments at the table needed cleaned off. ( dried on the caps and down the sides of the bottle) I just felt gross being in here. Potato salads were very good, but other than that, good luck. Yuck.

Excellent food and wonderful service. The most uncomfortable seating you'll ever experience but still 5 stars.

Food is good, waitstaff friendly, competent, but busy. We stop here each year on our way to visit family in the Midwest. It's a sports bar so expect loud music and lotsa folks cheering some team. But they're all nice and polite--just loud. And the food is worth a try --maybe more than one. This year our server Norma was especially memorable. Friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had a very nice time.

Stopped in here because we had a craving for German food (and didn't feel like cooking it ourselves). Atmosphere: it sits at the end of a row of restaurants right near the movie theater. It's set pretty far back from the primary roads, so you have to know how to get back there (or use GPS). There is a lot of exterior seating available (though it was far too cold for us). There is a large entry area with all the seating off to the left. I really like the bench/picnic table style seating in the main dining areas. It gave a remotely beer hall feeling to it. I noticed a bar in the back left of the restaurant with some seating around it. Overall, the restaurant felt like a combination beer hall/American sports bar, with German-themed decorations. Staff: they were polite, attentive, and professional. Our glasses were never empty and our food brought promptly. Food: we ordered fried pickles (non-German appetizer), which were exceptional. It tasted as if they pickles were at least German. I ordered the Fladenbrot, which appeared and tasted as if it were inspired by Flammkuchen. My girlfriend ordered sausage plate which was German-inspired as well and she enjoyed. The portions were more than enough to fill us up and the price was definitely low for the amount of food we received. Overall, we were pleased with this restaurant. It is definitely German-inspired, which makes it fun and enjoyable. If you're looking for authentic, I would choose this place first, but for what it is we will definitely return.

My favorite new place! Seriously...I love it! So #1 - cheap as hell! #2 - they have this fellow working there named Dean - LOVE him! He is wonderful.... he makes spot on suggestions, educates you on German cuisine and has a great sense of humor! #3 - BEER #4 - MUSTARD #5 - BRATS #6 - SAUERKRAUT #7 - REUBEN #8 - Did I mention beer? Oh yea...yes, I did! This is, for sure, my new go-to for nights I dont want to cook!

In one sentence. Server was great, food was good, food was slow. The beer selections are certainly authenticate and quite delicious. I personally ordered the sausage sampler and the sausage was filling and tasty. I especially liked the sauerkraut as well. A couple of other people in our party had the schnitzel and would not stop talking about it. Kids were happy, parents were happy. Decor is a little odd. Doesn't really come together but they are certainly trying. Looks like a fast food joint from the parking lot but promises a lot more.

I'm of two minds about this restaurant. While I very much enjoyed the food and beer selection, the service was very slow. It took approximately 45-50 minutes for us to receive our food and then it took several more trips by the waitress for us to get all of the side dishes and dips that we had ordered. Had the restaurant been busy, the slow service would have been understandable, however the restaurant was barely half full. I do hope that aspect of the business gets better. Now, on to the food. I had their fish and chips, which was very good. The potions were generous, the fish was tasty and flaky while the chips were crisp and not soggy at all, which made me very happy. I did enjoy ordering from their extensive beer menu, which is clearly a strength with this restaurant. They have so many good options for beer, you shouldn't be bored with their selection. The prices for food and beer are also very reasonable. All in all, the food was good, the beer selection even better, however the service on that night could have been better.

This place was decent, I give them props for having a real accordion player. Lots of TV's with sports on sort of took away from the whole 'German' atmosphere. It really didn't feel authentic. Food seemed a little small for the price, but the servers are hot (men and women.)

To cut to the chase, skip the schnitzel. The place is called "Wurst und Bier" and that's what anyone visiting here should stick with. Visiting Columbus on business, I waned to sample some German fare that this city is known for. My boss and I headed to Wurst Und Bier for dinner. I was afraid it was just another loud, themed sports bar, but we visited on a Saturday evening, and the noise level was not bad. There was even a musician on an accordion entertaining the crowd, and it made for pleasant atmosphere. The restaurant serves families and sports fans, judging by the decor and the number of TV's around the room. There's a great selection of German beers on tap, local Ohio craft beers, and run of the mill American beers. I had a Hoegaarden and a Paulaner Doppelbock. I was daring and decided to get the veal schnitzel dinner, with a side of red cabbage and potato pancakes. Food came out relatively quickly, but neither apple sauce or sour cream were offered for my potato pancakes, and my veal schnitzel was naked- no gravy, no nothin'. The cutlet was very salty, too. Server brought out sour cream upon request for my potato pancakes which were not bad. My boss got a traditional currywurst, and said he enjoyed it. We ventured into dessert and got two cream puffs. The first sign of trouble was when I poked the filling with my fork and it sprung back. I tried to cut through the pastry with my fork and was denied. This "cream puff" was rock hard! We then resorted to forks and knives to attempt to get inside the dessert, but after all that work, we were greeted with a cold, tasteless pastry. The waitress didn't seem too concerned when she saw us attacking dessert with our tools and we told her about our experience. "Oh, I'll tell the kitchen that we should get new ones, I guess." New ones?? For a town with a huge German heritage and influence, this place didn't impress me. Like I said, ignore the rest of the menu, stick with the beer and sausages.

Since this place opened I have wanted to try the exotic "Rattlesnake and Rabbit" bratwurst but they've never had it so I'm not sure if it's just a menu talking point or what. I usually just go with one of the brats and top it with some sauerkraut and ketchup and maybe some good german mustard if I'm feeling it. Fries are okay but not great. The tap list is good if you're into German Bier's, but their bottle list is better for the craft aficionado. This used to be a BW3's, so it is huge and has a great outdoor area. They are never really that busy, of course I only go here for lunch because it's close to where I work sometimes and it's cheap. Service has always been excellent.

Slow service. Sauerkraut balls as an appetizer were good but took 20 minutes to get & small plates were promised, not delivered. The waitress did come by to ask if the appetizer was good, still no plates or explanation. Drinks requested to be delivered with food arrives early. Food was good didn't arrive all at once & had to ask for extras that meals came with like 1 plate was missing tarter sauce for the fish. I would come again but I would know to expect slow service.

I would say going here was a great start to 2015. The husband and I went out when we realized we didn't have any sauerkraut and the pork wasn't fully defrosted - have to stick to traditions! We went for an early dinner, and considering it was also an OSU game day, the place was pretty empty when we showed up. Our waitress was also tending bar, so while she may not have been as attentive as she could have been, she was covering a lot of the restaurant by herself. After perusing the menu, I decided on pork Schnitzel with a side of the Berlin style potato salad and steamed broccoli. I also ordered a side of potato pancakes as an appetizer. The husband ordered the sausage platter with the German brat and the Farmer's mild brat. It came with mashed potatoes and sauerkraut (yay!) and he ordered an extra side of red cabbage. The food came out fairly quickly. My potato pancakes came out first, with a side of applesauce. They were really tasty with not too strong of an onion flavor. There were also a lot of them, and not much applesauce, but it was really tasty. Our meals came out next - everything looked really good. My schnitzel was awesome, cooked perfectly. The potato salad was some of the best potato salad I've ever had, and my have to find a way to replicate the recipe so I can have it more often. The husband's sausages were really tasty. The German brat was a bit spicy and the Farmer's mild brat was very mild and smooth. I wasn't too impressed with the sauerkraut, but he said it was good for what it was. The mashed potatoes were very excellent and the red cabbage was amazing. We got dessert to go, I ordered the apple strudel and he got the Kaiserschmarrn. The apple strudel was amazing - seriously amazing. The Kaiserschmarrn was also really good, but I preferred the strudel. The beer selection was really good, a nice choice of German beers on tap and in a bottle. The only downside was the couple questions we had about the beer, the waitress wasn't able to answer. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely be going back for good German food.

Love the Pretzels!!! So much so that we had to do a quick stop on our way to Dayton! Pretzels are very reminiscent of Germany.

Let me tell you what you have here is great beir-beer .It was the largest glass of beer I've yet to find in Columbus. They were very friendly & helpful. The waiter Dean suggested a beer & my wife had 2 lol. We had the cabbage balls with the best mustard, I was informed real mustard. My son had the burger with brats on it, delicious! My wife a speciality veal brat dog, myself the spiciest brat dog. It was a great time, can't wait to go back for the Rueben yummmm!

Uncomfortable seating and not a fan of the ambiance. Stayed because Yelpers said there are good German sausages to be had here. Ordered a Becks bottled beer and it was stale and had a funky skuny smell and taste. Tried to catch the waiters attention to send it back unsuccessfully. Then someone other than my waiter brought me something I didn't order. I asked her to please get my waiter. She did and I explained the problems and left for dinner elsewhere. Three strikes-environment, stale beer, wrong order.

Tried Wurst Und Beer instead of taking the drive downtown. The place is very large and full of "German style" picnic tables. The service was really very slow and inattentive. If not for the service this would be 4 stars. The beer selection is very good and the beers were delivered in specific steins and mugs associated with the brews. Very much like in Germany. For the most part we ordered different wursts. Curry Wurst was authentic although a little sweet. Munich Bratwurst was outstanding and the mashed potatoes and sauerkraut were acceptable. The Farmers Brat (hot) was pretty good and the pork schnitzel was surprisingly good and very, very tender. The pretzel appetizer was excellent and the mustard were very nice, but serving them in plastic to go containers was cheesy. All in all, good beer and some great brats.

Food is good... Prices are reasonable... Atmosphere is what you would expect.... Right down to the accordion player in the corner playing "roll out the barrel" ... Staff is friendly but a bit slow considering the few people here... Overall a good time...

I really like German food. What's not to like, really? Carbs on carbs on carbs with some meat thrown in. Sounds like my kinda party! Wurst Und Bier is always a good bet. They are never really super busy, at least not the times I have been there, and that is awesome because some other German spots around town can have a long, long wait. I think the food here is just as good as any other German restaurant in Columbus and they have a great selection of beer and wine. If you get the giant pretzel (which you should), I recommend getting the cheese spread that comes with it (which I can neither spell nor pronounce). It is awesome. I would also recommend the currywurst, which is a sausage sliced up and covered in a red curry sauce that is a little spicy, a little sweet, and a lotta good. It comes with a side and some bread for sopping up that sauce. It's my favorite thing I've had here. I also liked the pork schnitzel. It's another solid choice. If you come here at the right time, they also have an accordion player, which is really fun. The waitstaff here is always really nice and friendly too, which helps make for a good evening.

Columbus in February is cold! Really cold. I don't like cold--I live in Southern California. I thought to myself, "Germany is cold. How do Germans keep warm?" Only two answers came to mind: building complex machinery and drinking beer. Not being much of a handyman, I headed to Wurst Und Bier with my buddy. The German beer selection here is quite varied and full of breweries that I recognized, like Hofbrauhaus, and others that I can't even pretend to pronounce or remember how to write. Service was quick, attentive, and the prices were very reasonable. I can't comment on the food since I had eaten before arriving for drinks. So I guess technically this place was just Bier to me.

Interesting place. Kinda half-Biergarten, half Applebees? Regardless, we were happy to find a place open at midnight when we pulled into town. Our server was very nice. We ordered to-go and the burger was ok, currywurst was a bit hot-doggish, but not bad.

Decided to try this spot for lunch wanted something different. Not bad inside it will meet the needs of people just needing to grab a bite to eat. The menu is not too extensive about the size of applebees maybe, but they have some "exotic" meats which consist of Alligator, Rattlesnake, and Rabbit all in brat form. I decided to go with the rattlesnake. For some reason it took awhile for the food to be cooked (maybe they were going out back to catch it who knows). Anyways, after a good wait they brought me out the rattlesnake, I took a bite and it was pretty good. Not a bad place to go.

Went back at lunch and got my Nurenburger wurst and it was wonderful. Served with terrific mashed potatoes and sauerkraut. Truly reminded me of time spent in Bavaria. Can't wait take family...they will love it too!

The food and service was good. The waitress was very friendly. I visited during off-hours (3pm or so) so there weren't many other diners. The bench seats were hard as a rock, not a place you'd want to spend several hours. The combinations of sausages are a little hard to understand but the food is interesting and good tasting.

Atmosphere was relaxing. Great selection on beers. Love there selections of brats and sausages. They have this cucumber salad that is yummy! Potato salad with bacon bits was good. Pretzel with their cheese ball is a must!

Only been here once. With my fiance and best friend. We all liked the food quite a bit. Only thing we didn't like was the pretzel appetizer. Was not very good. All of the salt was on one spot of the pretzel. Very dry too. But the entrees were all good. We are planning on going back.

It's not in German Village, but don't let that deter you from coming here. Much more beer options here than Schmidt's. We had pretzel and cheese for appetizer and it was delicious! I ordered curry wurst and loved it. Not sure about their spatzle- you can get better elsewhere. My boyfriend had the sausage dinner and cleaned his plate. What also sets this place apart from others is the live music. What a treat!

I decided to give the restaurant another shot since I was in the area. I went to the restaurant with my dad after we saw a movie. The restaurant had a fairly small lunch crowd, which was probably good because it seemed to be understaffed. The waitress mentioned the bartender called in sick, which I can only assume meant he or she was celebrating the Buckeyes' win from the previous night. The waitress was very friendly and she provided prompt service. I didn't order a beer during this visit, but my dad enjoyed the Bitburger Pilsner. I ordered the chicken philly sandwich and this sandwich tasted great. It was loaded with mushrooms and bell peppers. I asked for no onions and my request was granted. I also got a salad instead of the french fries. The salad was pretty good with fresh lettuce, tomato, peppers and some other items.

I came here recently with a friend for lunch. The great part about Wurst Und Bier is that it is super inexpensive and the food is usually pretty good. Also, you and your friends get to take turns horribly mispronouncing German words on the menu. Best thing to do is try to say it as fast as possible and sound angry. We both got the Farmers brat which was good. I had the bratkor... the bratkortoff... the bacon potatoes thing. In past experiences, I've had 3 or 4 different sausages/brats and they have all been pretty good. I think Hot Italian Brat is my favorite. Each sausage comes with two toppings and I typically go with hot or sweet peppers and sauerkraut. Other menu items I would recommend are the Reuben, the Pretzel, Currywurst, and the Schnitzel. As for beers, they have a pretty large selection of German beers and otherwise. The waiters and bartenders are typically great at making a beer suggestion if you tell them what you are looking for. If you aren't sure, they will almost always suggest the Hofbrau Original as it is light and probably pleases most everyone. Occasionally, there are legit German people inside wearing lederhosen and those green hats with the feather singing drinking songs and playing accordions. If you are into that sort of thing, you probably love it. If you don't, well, hopefully it's warm enough to sit outside. My biggest complaint is the waitstaff sometimes disappears never to be seen again. I've had to order food from a different waiter or the bartender several times before. Also, the place is in a dilapidated strip mall so the patio doesn't really offer a plesant view of anything but of the car you drove there or if you play your cards right, construction vehicles. I don't think you would stumble across this place without GPS or unless you happen to go to the movie theater next door. Also, the spicy level of the mustard seems to vary which makes me think it gets watered down occasionally. Somewhere a German is weinen. All in all, cheap decent eats and good beers make this a place to check out.

My wife and I were in search of a late dinnet (around 10pm) that didn't involve a drive through. Wurst and Bier seems to be the only German themed sports bar I can think of. Our server was very friendly and helpful with recommendations. Between the two of us we had a German brat (excellent), a beer and cheese brat (decent), and a spicy farmer's sausage (outstanding). We also had a pretzel (very good), spetzel (very good), mashed potatoes (ok), and sour kraut (fine). We also had apple strudel for dessert (not so great). I'd definitely like to go back and sample more of the sausages. There must have been around 20 on the menu.

Came here for two of three nights I was in Columbus for a weekend . Ive had some of the beer and food both occasions and found both good among some of the competition . My favorite food there ? can't go wrong with a Reuben sandwich which is what i recommend and just stick with a good beer recommended by the servers and you'll be good . Can we honestly go wrong this way ? Nope !

Pretzel was awesome. Ordered a Blue Cheese Sausage and it was Meh. I couldn't taste blue cheese at all. The GF got the traditional German Sausage and I thought it was better.

Große Würste macht Doc ein fröhlicher Junge! Rolled up to this place by the Crosswoods theater around 4:30 for my meal du jour after reading about this place from other Yelpers. This place is is my neighborhood so I was excited to get German food without having to drive all the way down to G-Village. Walked in and was immediately seated since I was the only customer in the place except for a dude sitting at the bar at this time. The decor is your typical biergarten setup without being too kitschy, seating options are dark wood tables with unpadded benches in the dining area and padded barstools in the bar. Plenty of flatscreen TV's dot the place so there's really not a seat without a view of one. I took some time to read over their menu/newsletter/beer list and the many options for some traditional biergarten fare. I wasn't really in the mood for beer (I know my friends are saying to themselves at this point WTF?) even though they have a 3-7 happy hour with $1 off all German Drafts & also the appetizers. I finally decided to try their Sauasge Plate, a choice of two of their sausages, served with German sauerkraut and mashed taters. My order came out within 15 minutes and was plated very nicely with a good size serving of mashed taters, kraut and the two snausages I chose grilled to perfection. Each table table is set with a container with forks, knives, napkins and ketchup and yellow mustard. At my request I asked for the hot German mustard and was brought a bottle of Löwensenf, one of my favs! The Beer & Cheese sausage was a finely minced texture but the beer flavour just wasn't there for me. The pork German Brat was a whole other world, coarse ground pork with a tasty mix of spices, this was as close as you can come to the brats from Carle's without driving up to Bucyrus! The mashed taters were decent and the sauerkraut here is VERY mild which was kinda nice since it didn't overpower the rest of my meal. My server was very nice and took time to answer my questions, to say the least my glass never went dry during my visit. Overall my first try of this place was very positive and I am so happy to have my own German biergarten down around the corner, I'll be back for more. I sure hope they do better than the other tenants in this location in the past. Bier trinken, gut essen!

I wish we still had a place like this in Baltimore (that means you Degroens!) The location of this authentic Bavarian restaurant is kind of creepy/sad/depressing as it is basically in what looks like an abandoned 1930's Art Deco shopping center. I fully expected zombies (a la 28 days later) to come running out any moment. But I digress. While the area was uninspiring, the restaurant and the food was not. I loved that they had an outdoor picnic bench area and the inside was interestingly decorated. We had the sausage platter, of which there were many varieties from which to choose. I got the authentic platter that has the veal, beef, and I think pork? They were soooo delicious and juicy! The Potatoes were juicy and good, especially with the authentic mustards (direct from Germany). The kraut that came with the platter was a little raw for my liking, and seemed like it was from a can and not slow cooked- a C- on this one. The kraut bites were inventive but a bit flat- more fried dough than anything. I was in love with the mustards (they are super hot) and we learned that they have them shipped directly from Germany. They are also stolen more than the authentic beer glasses they use for their vast selection of beers. I was skeptical at first of this place due to the very weird location, but I'm sold! Next time I'm in the area, will be stopping in for more German food!

Food? Great. Great place to come and get German food if you don't want to drive downtown. Pretzel, sauerkraut balls, and our Brats were on point. $1 drafts from 11-6 is pretty nice, too. Service? Awful. We were told about appetizer and braut specials, only to be told "Whoops, I got the times wrong." Prices were not fixed for server error. I'll try it again to see if they can do better, maybe.

Our monthly dinner club went here for October, which was great for Oktoberfest and the beer selection. They had a number of available beers, which were good. We arrived about 30 minutes earlier than we had our reservation so we could take advantage of the happy hour. When we arrived, one of our members immediately ordered the sauerkraut balls thinking they would come out while we were all standing at the bar. They didn't come out and we asked about them... they still didn't come out and we asked again... we were then seated (again, 30 minutes after they were ordered) and they still weren't out. We let our server know about them and she put the order in again and brought them out in a timely manner. We only hoped we would still get the happy hour pricing on them when we got the bills. Once we were seated, everything went pretty well. They have the long tables with long benches that can seat 2-3 people. We went on a Wednesday night when they have live music. Aside from teh sauerkraut balls, we also ordered a couple pretzels with the dipping sauces. The pretzels were really good and I was pleased to see they weren't covered in salt, only the lower portion of the pretzel had salt on it. The dipping sauces (Obazda), were great. There was a hot and mild mustard - most of us preferred the hot (it cleared your sinuses...). We ordered different dinners, including the chicken Schnitzel sandwich that came with fries and a number of club members ordered the sausage of some sort. The chicken schnitzel sandwich was okay, it didn't have much flavor to it and I ended up adding a good deal of mustard to the sandwich. A few of the members LOVED the potato salad and that was one of their favorite items they ordered. In the end, they did give us the happy hour price for the sauerkraut balls. We even had a coupon (buy two entrees and get an appetizer free) and thought they would take the cheaper appetizer off the bill (i.e., sauerkraut balls), but they didn't, they took off the pretzel and sauces, which was about $9! I thought this was pretty nice of them. Overall, our experience was decent. There were a few ups and downs, but the end was good. The restaurant is a little out-of-the way for most of us, so it probably isn't a place we would go out of our way for, but if we were up that way again, we would try it a second time...

Beer and brats...what more could you ask for? Loved the beer...loved the brats...there are like ten-fifteen German beers on tap! the sides...meh...I would not recommend the spatzle...it had some weird cheese sauce on it? What? the patio...yes! the service...Eddie made lots of good suggestions...came around a lot and didn't seem to mind all my questions... the company and conversation...five plus stars! Thanks Paul F. Oh yeah...and german accordion music...mmmm hmmm!!

After being fairly down on W&B when it first opened, I decided to give it a wide berth, but several people have told me to give them another shot. I was in the area for lunch today, and I will tell you that I had a much better experience this time. The giant pretzel appetizer was actually available, and was a nice treat to split at our table, and the farmers' bratwurst was quite tasty. The sauerkraut and caramelized onions weren't too much to write home about, and the fries still seem like they come from GFS, but service was good and the food came out a lot more promptly. I suspect I may go back for dinner at some point soon to see if some of the other issues we ran into have improved as well.

While the service isn't amazing, the beer selection is amazing, and the list of German imports is one of the best in Columbus. Definitely would suggest someone go here to get drinks with friends.

I personally think this is the most authentic Bavarian restaurant in Columbus all the way down to the mustard at each table. This place brought me back to the bier garten that are a staple around Bavarian Germany. Seating is at long wooden tables and benches. The decor is reminiscent of Oktoberfest beer tents. There is even live accordion music to get you in the stein raising spirit. Beer is served in one or two liter mugs and is very reasonably priced. We loved the Obazda, A fresh baked pretzel with a cheese spread. If you like sausage this is your place. They have every kind of sausage you could ever imagine including some adventurous flavors like rattle snake and alligator. They also have a traditional American burgers and pizza, but I have only had food from their German Menu. Our Waitress was also extremely helpful. Judging from her accent I think she was from German. She was able to tell us where to find the delicious mustard that was at our table. If your looking for an Authentic Bavarian experience, this is your place. PROST!

This was my first visit to Wurst und Bier but surely won't be my last. We stumbled on this restaurant while visiting the Marcus Cinema next door. Wurst und Bier has an excellent selection of GERMAN (yes - authentic German) beer and a fair selection of other non-German beers. But - hey this is a German restaurant and it's all about German beer and German food. The menu offers a good selection of sausages, sandwiches (including burgers) and German dinner entrees. They also have some excellent appetizers including large German pretzels with various toppings. We thought the Bavarian pretzel with the brie cream cheese and various mustard dips was outstanding. My wife had a Reuben sandwich which shes aid was quite good and I had a Wurst und Bier sausage platter that was exceptional. We both had German beer to go along with the food. The atmosphere is loosely akin to that of a traditional beer hall and is very loud. We were there on a Saturday night and there was an accordian player for entertainment. Surprisingly, however, he finished up and was done before 9:00. Overall - if you're looking for a good selection of German beer and German food, you need to give this place a shot. Also - it's open late (2:30 AM on Friday and Saturday) which means you can stop after seeing a movie.

Although they have a great sports bar area at times, it seems whenever there is a girl behind the bar they kind of forget that. Often times they have infomercials on or CSI for example. It isn't because anyone has asked for that either. When you order a large draft beer the top 2 inches are saved for an inch of foam and an inch of nothing. My large beer last night was $10.50 plus tax. What a rip off! The food is great but the beer prices can be staggering.

German themed - feels like a chain ( but Googling it - it does not seem to be) - Good German beer selection. OK menu. Went with pork schnitzel(a little too greasy), red cabbage and spetzle, really like a home made mac-n-cheese) -- this was good but I was hoping for fresh made spetzle and cheese on it this was just too heavy for my taste. Good, and yes all made in house, but each element could be fresher / lighter.

The bartender was the only saving grace here. We walked in and no one acknowledged in any manner. No eye contact... Basically just ignored even though the saw us walk in. After we stopped one of the waitresses she told us we could seat ourselves. We sat for 10 minutes while they walked by us never even say "I'll be right with you " or anything. Finally my husband went to the bar. The the barkeep was great. Could not be more personable and professionable and likeable. My husband was impressed with his knowledge of his biers that he served. As we drank our biers we waited another 15 minutes before we decided they were never going to acknowledge us. We moved over to the bar where most of the people were. Did they know seething we didn't? Apparent so. We talked to the the barkeep, ordered our food, explained what we went through( he could not be more apologetic and ticked off ). He kept an eye on us and talked with us. The waitresses suck. I'm sorry. I rarely use that word. But they need better waitresses and keep their wonderful barkeep Jay. I have never written a yelp review but this place deserved one. Kudos to Jay the barkeep and brickbats to the waitresses.

-Got lost getting here using the GPS. It's back in the cut in a shopping plaza/mall which we had not expected. Upside, plenty of parking. -Hostess was either rude or distracted, couldn't tell which one. -Is there such a thing as too spacious? If so, this

Wurst Service Around :( I really wanted to like this place. Cool beer menu and yummy German foods....I sat at the bar for 20 minutes before getting offered a beer. There was only 1 table of guests, so where were the staff? My friend and I then spent almost an hour on the patio waiting for our food. A sausage and a pizza_style flatbread. Again, there was only a handful of people sitting down, and when the order did come out, it was wrong. It took another 10 minutes for the flatbread. And our second round never arrived, despite the empty mugs. Blah. Save yourself the the time and go somewhere else.

I rounded out a night at Wurst Und Bier, recently. It was my first time in, and they hadn't quite hit their stride. The place sits in the old BW3 location. They've outfitted it with big tables and benches, in the expected style. It was warm out the night we were there, but inside it was freezing. The lighting seemed very dim, as well. They have an interesting beer selection that focuses on Germany, served in appropriately großer Stein. They have a friendly staff, including some Eastern European accents, which is cute. My favorite late night European street sausage is the curry wurst. (Did I really just type that?) I was pumped when I saw it on the menu. Interestingly, they were out of both the veal and beef sausages. So, pork it was. A tip for the owners though: if your place has sausage in the name, make sure you are stocked up. The curry wurst turned out to be only OK. Like a curry ketchup mix. Not my fave. The double-kraut side that we ordered was great though. Decent late night spot. They might squeeze out another star with some polishing.

We ordered online, got there to pick up the order, and had to wait 30 minutes after it was supposed to be ready to get our food. Upon getting home we realized that we received a side of spaetzle instead of the appetizer we ordered. We also ordered the vegetarian flatbread. Here is what the menu says it is: "tomato sauce, mozzarella, grilled zucchini, olives, sun-dried tomatoes and chile peppers." Here is what came on it: tomato sauce, mozzarella, grilled zucchini, olives, regular tomatoes (not sun-dried tomatoes), mushrooms (which I hate), and no chile peppers. Very disappointing.

Terrible service, really awful. Inattentive and not friendly. They messed up two out of three orders, brought the appetizer at the same time as the meal, and the one meal they got right was cold. Oh, and they overcharged us. I won't be returning.

I went to Wurst Und Bier last night for dinner and was joined by Karen M. We had a marvelous time and I hope we do it again! I had the sausage platter with two sides and have one of the sausages in the fridge for lunch today. All in all, a great meal!

Personally, I love this place. The food is good - the cuban bratwurst was the best bratwurst i've ever eaten, hands down. The beer is great. Happy hour specials aren't the best, only offer $1 off german beers (perhaps only on fridays though, will double check). Seating has always been immediate, lots of tvs to watch. Just a great place.

Incidentally I ran into Paul F at the bar when I stopped here yesterday. I think my experience merited an extra star though. I got the standard pretzel (they called it small, but it was enough for a light dinner for me), which came with awesome super spicy mustard. The decor isn't overwhelmingly german like schmidts, and I actually think they have more kinds of sausages on their menu. The other winner is the beer selection. They let the liters flow here, and I enjoyed a half liter Radeberger for only $3.50 on the happy hour price. The only thing taking a star off for me is the location. It's set back deep within crosswoods, and not really in an area of town that's convenient for 2/3 of Columbus. Parking is ample though, and seating is as well.

    (4)
  • Jessica H.

It was A-ok. I had the pretzel with brie spread - I think I would have liked it better without the brie and just the spiced cream cheese. $9 for that one. It came with the big pretzel. Beer in a Litre is always A-OK. It's a nice place, but still (as others have mentioned) feels like a BDubs. Veg head alert - all the potato salads have the potatoes boiled in a beef stock. Counter-intuitively, not veg friendly. It seems more like a regular German pub - what you'd get at a bar there than perhaps the full out Oktoberfest we've come to expect in Columbus.

My husband lured me in with the promise of big pretzels and käsespätzle (similar to a mac&cheese). I studied outside of Munich so I'm always on the lookout for authentic German food. (And Schmidt's--is not authentic German food!). We arrived on a Friday at 6:30. The place was packed. They definitely need a pager system or a better system for taking names. Every time they needed to seat someone they walked around to all waiting asking if they were that party. We saw several tables sit open for 10-15 minutes bc of this. A large table sat open for 20 minutes and we were told it was bc of a reservation--frustrating since we were a party of 6. This place should not accept reservations. The menu is organized very poorly. Think they should redesign to better highlight their menu item. Have a large variety of sausages made in Bucyrus. Ordered: Obazda-Pretzel with Cheese Dip-Very good. Served on a cutting board. German Bratwurst-Very good flavor, but served on a hoagie. Germans normally eat with a hard roll, but think they Americanized this. Käsespätzle-Completely underwhelming. Missing the browned onions. Cheese wasn't incorporated, was just a hunk of melted cheese. Munich Potato salad-good vinegar flavor, missed the bacon. Schniztel-The cutlet should've been thinner and I think they need to serve this with a gravy or sauce because it is was very dry. (Shouldn't have been if prepared properly). Kolsch-Popular beer from Cologne. Love this beer! Overall, they have some kinks to work out. Will try again in a month or two.

We were turned off so badly by the greeting we turned around and left. Hostess was pleasant enough but we were shocked when she informed us we would have a twenty minute wait when the place was half full at best. We asked if we could sit in the bar which was also half full, and she said her boss told her the bar area was reserved for the night--wtf??? Not how you score new customers--lotsa luck. Too bad--we were looking forward to giving it a try. Hope your experience is better.

Just ate here on a Tuesday night. Great service since it was dead, there were maybe 10 other people in the bar with us! The American beers are served by the pint (16oz) but the German beers are served by the liter ($8.50) or half liter ($5.75). Beers are $1 off drafts during happy hour, and most beers are $8.50 for a HUGE liter/stein of beer. Try the Paulaner Hefeweizen!!! It is a very sweet wheat beer and it is soooo good! We got the fried pickles for half price ($3.25) during happy hour. They are whole fried dill pickles, not pickle chips. I thought they were good but they aren't as good for snacking as pickle chips. We waited around until 7pm for the $4 gourmet sausage deal on Tuesday. We got the Jalapeno Popper sausage and the Cajun Sausage. The Jalapeno Popper has jalapenos IN the sausage, and we topped it with jalapenos and banana peppers, this sucker is SPICY. One of the spiciest things you will eat. The Cajun Sausage is very good topped with mild peppers and onions. Had just a little kick to it but it mellowed with the peppers and onions. There's also 3 types of mustards at your table you can put on. The mild mustard was delicious! Overall, two sausage sandwiches with fries for $4 each, 3 liters of German draft beer, and half price fried pickles came to $45. Not bad considering a liter is about 2 pints, 3 liters = 6 pints. As for atmosphere, there are tons of tvs all playing sports channels. I would love to come back for Monday Night Football or some other sports occasion.

We have gone back here for supper the last three days. I am putting 5 stars but earned 4.5. Great staff and waiters. I read the other reviews about poor wait staff, maybe they fixed it, because everyone was super cool and good at their job. Almost all the food here is delicious. I recommend the hot italian brat, it was super juicy and full of flavor. Mash potato, red cabbage and sauerkraut, was also great. If you make it there before 6, order the flat bread pizzas for 50% off. They have daily specials and stay open late. The selection of German beers on draught was pretty sweet. My wife loved one of the haufbrau hefeweizens, I had one of the dunkles. Before 6 they are also a dollar off. As far as negatives. The fried food was a little too greasy, our co-worker didn't care for the cream puff for dessert, and I did not care for the curry wurst, the sausage had a thick hard leather skin on it, seriously over cooked, it seemed liked they put an already cooked sausage in the microwave for 5 minutes.

was pleasantly suprised by the menu variety. Only to be disaappointed that they were out of 3 things we ordered AND we drank the last of one of their speciality biers. I didn't penelaze their points because what we ate was good; they'll learn how to stock as time goes by. The restaurant was very true to Munich bier tents full of wooden tables and benches. We were treated to a group of patrons singing during our meal. We'll return during football games to take advantage of the great TVs and variety of food. (sorry BDubs, but I get tired of wings by week 3 of the season) And they need to add Handicapped parking. I used the ones at the neighboring restaurant.

back to back nights of litre hefeweizen for $8.50 per litre. so excited, i can barely hold my pee in! german pub with sports bar tendencies, it's strange but i'll take it. service was slow despite it being empty, the first night i went, but at the bar, the bartender takes close attention to you. along with my hefeweizens (hofbräu and paulaner), i had the jalapeno peper sausage with sauerkraut and red cabbage, mild bratwurst with sweet peppers and sauerkraut, and their home sauce (asiago cheese, garlic and hot sauce) chicken wings. despite its popularity here, the wings were the most underwhelming food i had. i would skip the wings in favor for the sausage. the jalapeno was a pleasant surprise in terms of spice--just a slight hint of spice, but it's great! the toppings were great as well. i don't know what else to say except their killer tuesday evening dinner deals where the sausages are $4. happy hour includes the wings and the flatbeards to be half off and their german drinks $1 off. would i come back here again? hell to the yes. maybe i'll go once more tomorrow before i fly back home to new york!

My wife and I gave Wurst und Bier another shot, and I don't think we'll be going back a third time. We came for lunch an hour and a half after they opened and we sat at the bar for about ten minutes before anyone bothered to come over to us, and she seemed very annoyed to have customers--it's not like we came too early or they had just opened. My wife's sausage was burned to an absolute crisp. The positives of the place are nice, but aren't enough to overcome the negatives.

I feel like a list post is the only way to review Wurst and Bier: Pros: 1. Close to my home 2. Fantastic selection of German beers. Tons! I've been there twice and the servers have all been knowledgeable about the beers as well. 3. Very good service (see point 2, above). The chef came by and chatted with us our first time; the second time I came with a large group for a birthday and the servers were both attentive and patient. 4. Good food. I've only had sauerkraut and sausage but I'm told that I need to try the Obazda at some point. Cons: 1. The atmosphere. It's like an authentic German restaurant took all its food, cooks and staff and transported them into a giant BW-3s. Therefore, this place is a little odd. It's too mainstream-sports-bar-y to serve as a destination restaurant, but it the food and beer are too destination restaurant-y to serve as a mainstream sports bar. With that, I'm realizing that perhaps a list wasn't necessary after all and that the con paragraph sufficiently captures my experience. Anyways, I like it, I just wish it would decide what it wants to be.

The name really says it all. Tucked away near the Crosswoods theater near Sushi-ko and Lotus Grill, W&B serves up a range of tasty wursts and offers a large selection of beers in a dark sports-bar with touches of German/biergarten kitsch, for prices that won't break the bank. The main focus, of course are the various wursts and brats of which there are a wide range to choose from, including a fascinating "exotic line" including rattlesnake & pork, smoked duck, and alligator, all of which I hope to try at some point. For my visit, I decided to try the veal curry wurst, which was very good. The meat, tender and smooth, is cut up and smothered with a tangy sauce. Served with fries and a chunk of sweet white bread, it made a very pleasant and filling meal for ...I think about $6. If sausage isn't your thing, W&B also offers a variety of burgers and sandwiches, as well as a few entrees like schnitzel and fish & chips. There is also a selection of flatbread pizzas and some decadent sounding desserts. Prices are reasonable for the most part, as I recall, and the portions ample. I was not "stuffed" with my meal but sufficiently sated. Other notes... this might be a pretty good place for a group as there are a number of rather large tables. Also, if you really want to have a party, there are large towers to pour in a large amount of beer built into the tables. I myself was driving when I visited so I can't really comment on how the beers are, but there is a pretty good looking selection, focusing on the German brews, and I admit I would be quite tempted to partake if I could convince someone else to drive :) Also, the place is open pretty late, which is wonderful for all of us night owls. Anyways, I definitely plan to get back here at some point to try the rattlesnake wurst if nothing else. It's a good place for a fun night out, even better if you bring all your drinking buddies.

Good place to grab a drink (or a few) and some snacks. We didn't try any food when we were here, we had just eaten dinner and wanted a place to hang out for a little bit. They do show a lot of sports - and even had soccer on one tv, despite it being the playoffs! Selection of beers are good, and we did indulge in one pretzel.

I'm a fan of good food and this did not qualify. The sausages and sauerkraut were barely passable the only good portions were the noodle appetizer and the fried potatoes. The setting of the restaurant had nothing to do with Germany and the staff seemed exceedingly disinterested in helping us with ordering. The rest of my party was all over the scale in giving stars from one to four stars. For those who are curious my opinion of Schmidts is not much better. To get a good German dinner try the Oktoberfest at Epcot .

There are many positive review posted for the wurst sausage I've eaten in a while. They didn't have the German draft I wanted. The cucumber salad was sub par. I was especially disappointed in the Munich brat. Bottom line ill eat here again. Schmidts is a 100% better.

After friends of ours gushed about how great this place was, my husband and I were eager to try it out. Either we caught them on a bad day, or our friends went on a particularly good day, because we did not enjoy ourselves. The pork schnitzel was very dry and served without any type of sauce or gravy. The mashed potatoes were also dry and, I suspect, cut with instant potatoes. The pretzels seemed to be of slightly better quality than movie theater fare, the fries were cooked from frozen, and the currywurst tasted like store-bought brats soaked in store-bought curry sauce. The bratwurst sandwich was served buried in saurkraut on an over-sized, cold, store-bought bun. In addition to the less-than-stellar food, the service was bad, and the waitstaff seemed unfamiliar with the menu. The menu itself was printed on cheap magazine-style paper, and mine was stuck together at one corner with some sort of food remnant. My food was brought to me without the sides I ordered. When the server tried to correct this, she came back with a dish of cucumber salad, meant to be served cold, in a warm dish. We overheard staff talking about how they were out of several menu items, but we were not advised of this when we ordered. Also, our table was without silverware except for butter knives, and our food was served without forks. After all this, we were not offered a discount on our bill. On the plus side (?), the beer selection is extensive and the remodel of the former BW3 is unique, featuring large, purpose-built wooden "beer hall" tables and German-(ish) crests in the rafters. There is an ample bar and a lot of HD TVs. I imagine that this would be a great place to go if your aim is to get betrinken with freundes while watching sports, as long as you're not expecting an authentic or unique culinary adventure. I'll give Wurst und Biere about six months. If it's still in business, I may try it again. I think that this place will have to improve or maintain some kind of consistency if it's going to survive. Robert Irvine could teach this place a thing or forty.

I am four-starring this place not for fine-dining. I am doing so because I threw a party here and they were great. It was a mid-day affair and we had about 25 people. The set up was ready prior to arrival so there was no waiting. The service was on top of the deal from the minute we arrived. Food just kept coming. Every special request was filled right away. We liked it all beer und wurst. The long table thing actually was kind of fun for the party thing. After we ate people wandered around and visited and that was all good. The price was very reasonable. The restaurant could use a massive dose of ambiance, but on the other hand, the stark blandness is kind of a thing. I'd definitely recommend for a laid-back party thing. Not so much for stuffy people all worried about perfect culinary experiences.

The most authentic German beer garden I been too, I did some research about this place before I visited, found out that all all their food product is imported from Germany. I have been so impressed with the food, Nd their beer selection. Service was also top notch. I will be visiting this place again.

Only place in Columbus that I've found CurryWurst, a classic German street food that is awesome. The sauerkraut balls were not very good and I will not order them again. I tried a couple of the other sausage choices on a subsequent trip and did not find the famer brat or cheese and beer to be very exciting. The Munich potato salad is very good. The selection of German beers on tap is solid but unfortunately I have only been here for lunch during the week and have not been able to partake. The beer would likely increase the review to a 4 star. As a side note this place is has a terrible location and if something sinks them it will be choosing a fomer BW3 and former Jed's location. the choice meant less in start up costs (the layout might look very familiar if you went to either previous establishments) but as someone who deals in real estate site selection everyday, the couple of extra dollars in rent and buildout costs associated with a higher profile location would add up to much higher (and faster) revenue generation.

Having just been in Germany on my honeymoon, I saw this spot and was interested in getting some more sausage on. I can't say that I was disappointed, but I can't say that I am a raving fan. I had a traditional pork sausage and one of the "hot" sausages, and they were tasty. The authentic German mustard was a nice touch. Unfortunately, the sauerkraut and the red cabbage left a little to be desired. The sauerkraut almost tasted like it came out of a can. Other than that, the "biergarten" atmosphere was definitely there. A large beer selection, complete with many authentic German brands (Hofbrau, Weinstephan, etc), and large volumes (1/2L, 1L) was appreciated. The only thing missing were the Radlers and Russ'ns. If I find myself in this part of Columbus again, I wouldn't mind stopping in.

wanna have some German experience? sorry need to correct; Bavarian experience...go there...a lot of good German beer, German food and German singers...the whole nine yards of German Bavarian culture....been there with some colleagues and friends...had a nice afterwork...unfortunately almost no gluten-free products...no gluten-free beer, switched to a cider which was not bad at all...and we managed to order a burger without the roll and the cheese...yes, eating a burger with a fork/knife is odd...but it works :-) guess not my last time at this location as my American friends are big fans and I'm where my friends are... :-)

Heard a lot of great things about this place, so I stopped in for a quick lunch thinking I'd have a chance for authentic German food. Lots of sausages to choose from, so I got a brat, a pretzel, and the spaetzle. The brat was OK, a bit bland in taste and texture. The pretzel pretty good. The spaetzle, however, was basically macaroni and cheese. Good selection of mustard and beer, but couldn't try the beer.

Last night I attended Wurst Und Bier's soft opening for friends and family, and I have to admit, I enjoyed myself quite well. I haven't actually ever been to Schmidts [but have had a sausage from their Oktoberfest stand] so I wouldn't treat this review as any sort of comparison, this is a general review of the restaurant. So this place is unique; owned by Albanians, I wonder what made them want to open a German-inspired restaurant, but they did a pretty good job so far. However, this place isn't what you would necessarily expect out of a German place. It doesn't have fat servers in plaid, it's more of a sports bar feel for sure. It has many flat screen TVs and the music was something straight off of CD101 [which is my favorite station so we were really happy about that]. We started with an appetizer; a giant soft pretzel and a soft Brie cheese dip, also served with two types of mustard. This thing was out of this world. The mustard was so flavorful and pungent, it was a real hit. And the cheese dip. OH heaven! I could go and just order two of these. Chives, brie, and whatever else man, it was working. Very generous amounts too, it was a perfect value. Wurst Und Bier also has a great selection of beers. We had a Shocktop to start but then opted for a Paulaner Oktoberfest at the bartenders request. It was so good! I hadn't ever had one before, and let me say, I will be ordering these way more often. They also have one of those big beer tube things on each table and some sort of sampler platter [kind of like CBC or Gordon Biersch has] of beers to try. I think that'd be a cool thing to try sometime. On to the main dish. We both got the same thing [cute...right?]. We got the German Pork Bratwurst with fries. It was tasty. It was loaded with flavor and the bun was crispy, chewy, and soft all at the same time. It was a tad salty, but I feel like that comes with the territory. I think Wurst Und Bier is doing a lot of things right. I think the atmosphere is unique and the food is casual and fits perfectly with the beer selection. The server we had was SO nice and helpful, and the bartenders knew their stuff as well-I think they have a great staff going for them. I also heard they are trying to get a patio, which would be super great for summertime. There are some things they still need to work on [I mean, come on, it was the first night!] though. They're mostly small like, different menus...They were really hard to read, I'd like some explanations on each German beer, because we had no idea what to get. I also think they could organize the menu in a better way. It took me til after I ate to realize they had spaetzle, that's a huge German thing and should for sure be highlighted! Also, I felt like the mustard they served with the pretzel should come with the bratwursts. Nobody in Europe puts Ketchup on their Bratwurst [in my travels at least]. They all use mustard. And this mustard was killer, it'd go perfect with the brats! I think the menu could explain the types of brats a little different, as well. I didn't have much of an idea of what each one was. Like what's a nuerneburg sausage compared to a bratwurst, knockwurst, etc. I don't even know if I'm spelling that right. Anyway, the menu organization is really the big thing that got me. I hope this location does well. Winking Lizard is right next door so I feel like there may be a lot of competition for beer-glory here. Their food was definitely cheap and downright perfect for pairing with a beer and the game on the tube. I will be back in the near future to keep exploring their menu! P.S. If you don't want German food they do have a wide selection of normal American grille/bar type food. Flatbread pizza, burgers, sandwiches, fried appetizers, soup, and a kids menu.

I stumbled upon this restaurant a couple nights ago after eating at Bob Evans. It's not particularly easy to find if you're not looking for it. I've been to this location years ago, when it was BW3's. The decor has not changed significantly inside. It's primarily a sports bar, with some German touches. That said, I don't come to a restaurant to look at the walls. I come for food. I'm a lifelong Columbus-area resident, and as such I revere the only German restaurant in town, Schmidt's. I love the food, but the German Village location is tough for a North side suburbanite to get to for a family dinner. Since Schmidt's closed their Westerville and Henderson Rd. locations years ago, Schmidt's has become but a few times a year place for me. Ok, back to the food...If a place is called Wurst und Bier, the Wurst better be the best. I tried two Bratwurst--the Smoked Beef, and the Veal. Both excellent. Better once (as mentioned in other reviews) you ask for some hot mustard. More on that later. I ordered the platter with two sausages, and two sides, for about $11. The sausages were huge, and I had the Berlin style potato salad (served cold, basically small chunks of potato, mixed with bits of gherkin in a creamy sauce and topped with chive--Yum!) and sauerkraut (not QUITE as pungent as Schmidts', but still very good). My better half had the Garlic Knockwurst for $5. It didn't mention it in the menu, but it comes with a side of fries. You can also add a couple of toppings, such as kraut, sauteed onion, or sweet peppers. The Knockwurst is excellent, and served on a slightly crusty hoagie-style roll that is excellent. Not knowing the sandwich was served with fries, the wife ordered onion rings on the side. Big, thick, probably beer battered--very good, could probably use a bit more salt, but very good nonetheless. Here's one little gripe--the kid's menu is sparse. Two items, if you're not creative. My little one had the Nuernburger--basically two thin but long (12" maybe?) sausages, not very spicy but decent, served with fries. The other option is chicken fingers with fries. I wish there were a couple more options for the kids. Remember what I said about being "creative" with the kids? Well, my oldest is hooked on mac-and-cheese. I spied the Kaesespaetzle on the appetizer menu. $6.50 nets you a large plate of cheese-smothered Spaetzle that is VERY good. The cheese is also covered with crunchy bread crumbs that I liked, but the picky ones did not care for. Next time--we order without crumbs, and the girls will share the one plate. We didn't get to dessert--too full!--but the Kaiserschmarrn and the Apfelstrudel sound wonderful. No bier for me, alas, but they have at least a dozen German brews on tap, and at around $8.50/liter, the price seems decent. Good selection from Schneider, Erdinger, Radeberger, Paulaner, Warsteiner, and Hofbrau. Good service, too. I talked to a manager, who told me the sausages are all made locally to the (German) chef's family recipes. Regarding the mustard issue--they're working on it, he says. The heavenly Lowensenf that was brought to my table is, of course, imported. They are working on getting a good supply. Schmidt's, it's on. Wurst und Bier has offered up a worthy challenge.

OK ... this place is like a cross between a German pub and a sports bar. There was an accordian player in Bavarian garb playing a combination of German "Oompa-band" favorites along with other tunes. He was quite good. They have music on Tuesdays through Saturdays. There are big TVs all over the place showing sports. The walls are decorated with German biergarten posters, steins, etc. The tables are like the picnic tables and benches you'd find in a biergarten, but there are enough of them that you don't share like you do in Europe. Service was quick, friendly ... our waiter was happy to answer all my questions about the menu items, the beer, the accordian player. He knew the food, and the beer on tap. They have 27 taps, about half of them German beer, most of the rest decent American or imported with a couple of the requisite standards. They also have a decent bottle list, about a third German. I tried the Hofbraeu Oktoberfest and the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale on tap. Both were fresh, served promptly in an appropriate glass. OK ... if you are a vegetarian, this is probably not the place to go. Other than some of the appetizers, a couple of salads and the flatbread pizza, there isn't much on the menu for you. My wife tried the flatbread pizza and it was pretty good. It wasn't the Pfanne pizza she fell in love with in Hamburg, but it was good. Actually, I'm reading the online menu and it says "additional vegetarian options available" so perhaps they have a few other options. The highlight of the menu are the sausages. They have burgers, they have sandwiches, they have schnitzel and leberkase (my sister warns that their "meatloaf" description really doesn't work for her, she said it was more like Spam loaf). But given the name of the place, and the way the menu is arranged, you really want to go with beer and sausages. I had one of the exotic sausages -- rattlesnake, rabbit and pork sausage. It was delicious. I don't think it's an authentic German thing (do they even have rattlesnakes in Germany, other than as crazy pets?) but it was quite tasty. Point me to weird food and I'm there. The food is served in paper-lined baskets. Cutlery and napkins are at the table. You are offered a selection of sweet, medium and spicy mustard. Be very, very, very careful of the temperature of food that is served. My wife bit into a fried mushroom that was fresh out of the deep-fryer and squirted hot oil all over herself. The wurst was also piping hot. But really good. I was sorely tempted to order another sausage, but that would have been [pun intended] a little piggy. I really enjoyed this place, and when I am in Columbus, I will be back for more. I wish they had one in D.C. -- I'd consider moving our monthly beer meeting for computer geeks there.

Utter disaster! Horrible food with no taste. Potato was ok but was so hot it took literally 20 minutes before could be eaten. Service was not very good also. You could feel they didn't care and just see it in their face it was no good. Bit into something hard in my mashed potatoes like sand from a scallop!! Just nasty, probably first time in a long time I couldn't finish my dinner. My recomendation is don't waste your time. Just go to Schmidt's and avoid this place...

Stop in for a pint or two. Good beer selection and not your run of the mill bar food. Atmosphere could be a bit livelier, but all in all good experience. :)

After living in Germany I wasn't expecting much in the way of authenticity but it actually resembled a bier garten with the picnic tables and rustic atmosphere. Greeters were rather unprofessional but our server was excellent, considering she had to yell over the accordionist we were sitting right next to (who was great by the way). The beer selection is outstanding, including German and craft beers but they were out of many of them. Permanently. Think they should probably redo their menus. Also surprised there was no German wine. We all ordered different forms of bratwurst which were helped immensely by the curry sauce and German mustard. Otherwise they were just boiled and pretty bland. Cuke salad and potato salad were very good sides. The large pretzel appetizer with cheese spread was excellent but pretzel pretty salty. And it's $9. All in all, I would go back and try different food. It had a fun atmosphere, service was very fast, food was hot, beer was ice cold and it made me miss Bitburg. I would say it's the most authentic German restaurant in C-bus. Schmidt's is good but definitely not authentic. Just don't sit next to the accordion player if you want to have conversation.

Food was good. Service was good. Problems were that two menu items we ordered weren't available - beef sausage and duck - and the tomato on the otherwise excellent beef bologna was disgusting. Pretzels were excellent too. Room to improve but worth a second try.

Nice beer selection, especially if you are into German/European lagers and such...

Food is uninspired, wait staff is uninformed, and the management is clueless. Order by 3 people was fd up, and the excuse was "we aren't officialy open yet", but I paid menu price for half rate service. I will never return, nor will I recommend to anyone

This place is like a German BW-3. They have a solid selection of German beers on tap. I wish I was hungry, because the currywurst sounded intriguing. This is part of a surprisingly decent stretch of bars well north of town.

Went with the family for fathers day... Enjoyed the place a lot ... Was a great change of pace from the traditional cut and paste restaurants .... Seeing how I lived in Mannheim Germany for a couple years I've missed curry wurst .... So of course that's what I ordered... It was very good... The fish and chips were also very good along with the kids chicken fingers.... I will definitely be headed back to try other items... There was also a huge beer selection if your interested...

i had the rattlesnake here but was disappointed as there was very little venom in my schnitzel and i only got mildly hallucinogenic episodes from it. the sauerkraut balls were really good as well as the barkeep's

Surprised by the variety of German food and draft beer on the menu, although I felt that most everything I got was slightly overcooked and a little tasteless. Also, the atmosphere was a little odd. Everything felt very far apart, and the decor was like a BW3's gone slightly German. A side note: they serve jars of mustard. I listened to the couple at the table across from mine complain about how unsanitary this is first to a server and then to a manager for half an hour, trying to earn a free meal, no doubt. If you are too stupid to figure out how to spoon mustard onto your plate from a jar, or if you are scared of a few germs, just stay home. Alternatively, if you don't like the mustard situation, don't use it.

Good brats and sausages. The schnitzel was awesome. Numerous German beers on tap. The place is an old BW-3 and it looks like it. Sports bar theme, lots of flat screens, but missing all the sports memorabilia. And that's the problem. With the exception of a few German beer promotional items, the place is pretty barren. Service was average, not great but not bad either. I fear this place will be short lived and that's a shame because the food is great. But they really need to define themselves somehow.

Decent brats ...curry brat very good. Fish and chips were good. Fries are crispy. Apple strudel with ice cream was ok. We ordered two - one was crispy and the other was not. Still tasted good. Prices reasonable. We will go back to try other menu items. one negative was some of the menus had food on them. Positives aside from the good food - wasnt crowded and even though TVs were on along with overhead music, it wasn't noisy. We're able to have conversation across the table. Oh and if you like soft pretzels, order the Oktoberfest pretzel which is bigger than your head.

Decided to try this place to save driving all the way to German Village. Big mistake! The service was excellent but the food was bland and disappointing. The German bratwurst had very little flavor, the Leberkaese tasted like fried bologna and the wings tasted warmed over. The sour kraut was almost tasteless. The one thing we all liked was the spaetzle mac n cheese, but the noodles bore no resemblance to spaetzle. Definitely won't go back.
