Mel is what makes this place great! She hands down brings character, class, charm, and love into this tiny diner. Go on Sunday brunch for a great menu containing vegan French toast -- don't forget the seasonal fruit. Mixed berry is the best!! Cinnamon apples too are scrumptious. The wait is well worth it. Go early if you are impatient. Don't bitch. It's a great place with great people. Delicious food.

Stopped here on our recent pass through Columbus. Came with 3 kids during Sunday brunch. Thankfully we were there early enough to miss the rush. On top of having PLENTY of delicious vegan optons, our waitress, the one from Rhode Island, was so kind, She was fun, attentive, quite possibly one of the best food service pros I've interacted with. I spent years as a waitress and she really was the best. She made, what could have been a stressful dining experience (3 little kids in a mostly adult restaurant) really great. Food A+, Service A +++

Today was first visit to the whole foods cafe. I wasn't sure what to order so I read Yelp reviews and asked the cashier what she recommended. I ordered the Seitan gyro and the cashier supported my choice by Saying It was her favorite item on the menu. I enjoyed the gyro and did not miss the meat at all! I would definitely go back and have one again. I am looking forward to visiting again to try something new on the menu before my visit to Ohio is complete.

Oh my gosh. This place is so delicious. Marty and I have lived so close for months now and I only just ate here this past week. I foresee many meals here in the future. The server was really sweet and helpful. The food was delicious and FULL of flavor (I had the 'Red Lentil Burger' and 'Five Bean Soup'). Lastly, the baked goods were so tasty ('Vegan Peanut Butter Chocolate Cookie and 'Trailmix Cookie'). I am hoping to get back soon and can't wait to enjoy some more delicious food!

Love this place! The seitan gyro keeps me coming back every time. Also the baked goods are delish (though I prefer super soft cookies & these tend to have a more of a crunch). I brought a couple of skeptical omnivore friends for brunch & they were extremely pleased!

Great staff. Good food. Never have a bad meal. It gets 5 stars for the type of food it serves, casual. It is food I could perhaps replicate at home but it is nice that we can rely on them without the hassle, and they do a good job.

I came here on a Sunday a little after noon, at which point it was busy, but I was still able to get a table right away. I ordered the Greek salad, and it was fantastic - quite large with plenty of each of the ingredients that were listed in the menu, including the feta. Service was excellent. I'll definitely go back.

Veggie burger, vegetarian nachos are awesome. So are the cookies. I wish i thought of going there more often. Only downfall since the last time I was there was the service which is typically really slow. Not that I am in a huge hurry.. But it's probably the deciding factor of going there vs other similar places in the area.

My friends call it Slow World because it takes a long time for food to be prepared, even the daily specials. The dishes are a hit or a miss. Sometimes bland. When they're on it's fantastic. And they have a great variety of dishes.

Just had lunch. Very good food. Loved the vegan gyro. This place was a great find for a newbie vegan.

Went with three other friends for Sunday brunch last weekend. It was my first time at this place (definitely not a place for large groups, good for a group of four, no more) I have no problem eating vegan food, even though I'm a carnivore. I was in the mood for something sweet. It was a toss-up between the pancakes or the french toast (they came with fruit of the day- black cherries). I went with the pancakes, since one of my friends got the french toast. I figured I'd have a bite of her french toast. I love sharing dishes! While waiting for the main meal, I went up to the counter and got two cookies- the thumbprint and the coconut. The cookies were crispy, and I liked both, but the coconut was my favorite of the two. Our meals arrived after some wait, and my pancakes were light and fluffy. The black cherries were good. It came with a side of syrup. The dish wasn't overly sweet. My three other friends had the french toast, the broccoli burger, and hummus. I had some of the hummus, and the hummus was good (more of a solid texture than creamy), but I don't think that's a dish in itself. Had a bite of the french toast after seeing my friend wasn't going to finish hers! I liked the french toast better than my pancakes.. I really liked the flaky texture. Didn't get to try the broccoli burger, but my friend liked it. Next time I'm getting the french toast! For lunch, broccoli burger. I added pictures too.

I don't want to get too much into it. I'm going to keep this very short. After I made a complaint about a waitress in about October of 2013 I started getting sick from their food. It happened twice in a couple months or less period. I had never gotten sick prior. Even when I was pregnant! So coincidence or not I sadly had to stop going there. I haven't been there in almost 1 year. It's a very very unfortunate thing for me. You don't even know.

I've been here twice. My bf is vegan and I'm trying to be the nice bf and try to eat less meat and he has brought me here. The broccoli burger may sound and look weird but is actually pretty good. Also the eggplant meatball sub actually tasted like real meatballs. Pastries are little pricey but they are dang good!!

I had a vegan meatball sandwich. Very good, but needed more of the yummy sauce. My friends got a burger and quiche and they said they were very good. Hummus plate was shared by all and was excellent. Pizza was not available on Sundays. Bummer. The staff were very slow and appeared very unhappy/grouchy. They didn't check on us often and didn't say thank you when we paid. Maybe an off day.

We came across this place when trying to visit a new restaurant for after my son's swimming lessons. He loved it. The food is great and you can tell easily they prepare their food fresh. I ordered a broccoli burger and white bean spinach soup. The soup was a bit bland for my taste. A touch of spices would have made a world of difference. The burger was pretty good, but because of the bland taste of the patty, it was overpowered by the red onions. The waitress was very nice when we went on Sunday. She even gave my son a cookie on the house, which will ensure that we return when it's his turn to pick Sunday dinner.

I came here with my boyfriend's parents. They don't do vegetarian. They loved the Oregon apple pizza. I, the vegan, and my flexitarian boyfriend loved the eggplant meatballs and the tofu sloppy joes. The bread on each was delicious but it didn't hold up well to the sauces...got a bit soggy. The fudge and snicker doodle bars were awesome. The Mexican chocolate cookies were hotter than I've had before. But the cookies containing peanut butter (many awesome varieties) were too crunchy for my taste. Overall I'll be back and next trip to Columbus will include a weekend morning for brunch.

Two words, Avocado Croissant. This place truly makes me happy. Wait staff is always on point. Cookies and treats galore. Iced black tea, so refreshing. I recommend this spot to all my friends, veggies and staunch meat eaters. Do yourself a favor and check it out, you'll be glad you did!

I love this place. If I lived close I could eat here nearly every day. I saw a review of someone who wasn't a fan if the hummus. I really like it and I've work at several from scratch places and While World's hummus stands out to me. My roommate whom hates hummus in general enjoyed it very much. So to each his/her own. The pizzas are some if the best hands down even without meat. Vegan option on almost everything as well. Give it a try!

I went here the other day and I really, really wanted to like Whole World. However, my experience was middling. To begin with, thy DO provide table services - it kind of looked like an order at the counter place, but that is just for to go orders. My server was very busy, totally on her own, and very, very nice. When looking at the menu, I noticed that this place, like many vegetarian places, leans heavily on onions as a part of their meals. Unfortunately, I'm allergic to onions and most of the food that included onions looked like the kind where it would be pre-mixed in during prep. This necessarily limited my options. I ended up going for a seitan gyro and an iced tea. The tea was delicious. The pita wrap on my gyro was actually great - fluffy and light. The tzatziki was pretty good, though could have used more spice. The lettuce was lettuce. The real disappointment came from the seitan - it had been cooked once, but not pan-fried again, so it had that kind if chewyl brainy-type mouthfeel, which I really don't like. It also seemed like it could have used more seasoning. In general, it wasn't a bad experience, but I was disappointed. Maybe my hopes were just too high for vegetarian/vegan comfort food.

Came here once on a double date and had a good time. My wife and I came back a few weeks later and were so disappointed we hardly ate. I watched the chef cook our nachos in the microwave (you can see into the kitchen from the wall booths). The chips came out hot and flimsy. We sent them back and waited for our entrees. Once again not impressed. The tofu on my sandwich was thin and slimy tasting. Long story short, we order the vegan gyros to go at least once a week. They are perfect. Haven't had a bad experience recently.

Usually a super awesome place. Last time I went I had a rueben which came with a side and a pretty nice server. The server tonight was rushing people out of the restaurant and closed an hour early. What bothered me most was the server's rush attitude, even telling a customer who came in an our before close he could only get take out. The food was so-so this time, having a tofu sloppy joe with barely any sauce. Bummed out.

My vegetarian friend wanted to try Whole World last Sunday after having their 'famous' broccoli burger at Comfest. I went along, reluctantly, as I thought the broccoli burger looked cheap and smelled gross. I went online before hand and was disappointed to see they do a Brunch only service Sundays until 2 where they mostly serve pancakes, eggs, and tofu. Thankfully, we were able to order off the regular menu at 1:00! Our waitress was OK. Really nice, but not very engaged. I almost died of thirst before I got a refill and she seem surprised I needed one after getting a tiny juice size glass of iced tea. The food was what really stood out. You'd think; what can they do to really make veggies stand out? Well, fresh house baked breads and homemade dressing really make a difference. I ordered the veggie foccaccia melt and it was outstanding. Great salt, pepper, and herb foccaccia with lots of sauteed veggies, cheese, and mayo. Excellent. I opted to avoid he sides and it came with a tad bit of fruit for about $7.50ish. My friend ordered the, for lack of remembering the real name, Big Salad. Elaine Benice would have been pleased. It was huge and looked super fresh. Tahini dressing looked great. My only critique would be smaller pieces of lettuce and toss everything together before plating. Since the salad takes up the whole plate, there's no reasonable way to toss it yourself. Salad was $8.50 ish. Fresh food, great flavor, average value, homey ambiance, so-so service. A great place to go if you are not adverse to veggies. Desserts in the case looked great, but my sandwich was too filling to induge!

It's been a couple years since I last ate at Whole World, and I regret not coming here more often. Even though I am a caveman meat eater, I do enjoy the local eateries around Columbus that are vegetarian/vegan friendly. My understanding is that Whole World's was the first in Columbus to serve vegetarian/vegan food, and IMO the best (from a meat eater's perspective). 2 out of the 3 items we ordered were huge. Let's begin with the non-huge. I ordered the seitan gyro. Looked great, flavorful, oniony and meaty (tasting). You could still tell it's seitan, but it was a great substitute. Now before the seitan gyro I was starving, so I ordered dessert first. In their display case I picked a raspberry/chocolate bar. This "bar" was really a brick. I would guess it measured 5X5X1 in size. A dessert brownie in every sense. Dense, hard and sweet. You couldn't tell the difference. My fiance ordered a salad. Have you seen the movie "The Great Outdoors" featuring John Candy? Well there's a scene in there where he enters into an eating contest. He has to eat "old 96er", a 96 oz steak (with the gristle). Well this salad is Whole World's version of "old 96er" for vegetarians. It was huge and it could have easily fed 4 adults. My fiance ate maybe 20% of it. We took the rest home and I had it for lunch the next day. Tasted great the next day too. Even though this is a vegetarian restaurant, it will definitely satisfy the hunger of the staunchest meat eater. BTW, they have a great mural on the back wall.

It took almost a year for me to make it back here. WIth the promise that the man would get to try the new chicken truck across the street I got my chance to eat at Whole World. I got the broccoli burger and the vegan sloppy joe since I had a BOGO coupon I paid $7 for both which was great. Unfortunatly the taste left much to be desired. I had the sloppy joe first since I had herd it was dry and not all that but being a huge fan of the real thing I had to try it. It was super dry, the bun could have been toasted and it really needed sauce and flavor. The broccoli burger tasted exactly like broccoli and cheese rice a roni which was pretty strange. Again the same stale thick bun, and mixed with the rice a roni taste it was just dry and hard to swallow. The girls working are nice and it was pretty full but there are alot of other places to get vegatarian meals with flavor where you absolutly don't miss the meat or notice that you are eating healthy, this was a real let down.

I wasn't extremely impressed by Whole World. I got the broccoli burger, but it fell short of my expectations. There was not a whole lot of flavor, and it was dressed with only lettuce tomato and onion- not very creative in my eyes. The sandwiches don't come with anything either, you can pay $2.50 extra for chips, but no other sides available. I was hoping for more creativity and flavor!

Pros: There are a few really awesome dishes on the menu. Try the eggplant meatball sub or the herb and guacamole pizza. The staff is friendly. Great location. Cons: Though there are a few standout dishes on the menu, it's mostly generic stuff, nothing special. Not a lot of presentation goes into the food. Most dishes don't come with any sides. Not a lot of ambiance in the restaurant... could use some updating. When it's busy, they usually need another person working the floor, so service can be slow. Pizzas are very slow and usually take more than an hour to cook.

I bought a pineapple coconut cake to go. Cake was delicious. I would go back for a meal soon. I felt guilty, but it seemed like the staff was in a bad mood after I bought the cake. I'm hoping I didn't upset them by just buying cake to go.

As a lifelong vegetarian, I've had the opportunity to try vegetarian grub around the country, and I think the food at Whole World is just ok. As others have mentioned, it's a super small space, and depending on when you go in, you might have to wait. I stopped in for lunch with my mom while on a road trip at an off time and was able to get seated pretty quickly. Service was a little slower than I might have expected or maybe I was just really hungry? Dunno. My mom ordered a big salad. It's nearly impossible to mess up a salad, so she was pleased. I had a shitake and barley soup that was ok. Seemed to be missing something to me. I also got the eggplant sub. It could have been really good if it came with more sauce. If anyone had checked on me during my meal, I would have asked for some, but alas, no one did. Oh well. I still like Whole World and appreciate that they're the oldest vegetarian restaurant in Columbus. But...I do think you can find better vegetarian grub around town if you know where to look.

This has become one of my boyfriends and my favorite restaurants since we first moved up here about a year and a half ago. We always make sure we take enough of an appetite to get some bakery goods after our meal. The gluten free peanut butter fudge is to die for! I enjoy this restaurant because every time I go I have tried a new dish and I have enjoyed every single thing. They have vegan options to serve any craving you may have! The food alone deserves five stars! However I have to give this restaurant four stars because I have been unsatisfied with the service I've received from time to time. The servers don't really refill your water glass.

I've been to Whole World once in a while over the past bunch of years, and I keep hoping I'll like it more than I did the previous time. It's decent and it's reliable, but I usually find the quantities just a teeny bit small and the food just a teeny bit (or sometimes a teeny bit more than a teeny bit) bland. This evening I ordered off of the specials board. The butternut squash soup, I'll acknowledge, was really good. They served it with toast that was equally tasty, and surprisingly so. I forgot to ask what kind of bread it was, but I'm still curious. The Louisiana burger was described as a burger patty made from beans, rice, red bell pepper, and some other things, served along with some Cajun-inspired aioli and a whole wheat bun. (Digression: I always forget to ask places to hold the raw onion on sandwiches. Always. And then I pick it off and leave it on the side and think, "Why didn't I just ask them to hold the onion?" There have probably been a bushel of onions wasted for me over my lifetime because of this. /Digression) The aioli was tasty and the tomato and lettuce nice and fresh (I'm sure the onion was, too), but the bun didn't do the meal any favors. It was one of those buns whose sole function is to provide a vehicle for the rest of the sandwich without enhancing it at all. A bit dry and floury-tasting. I wonder what the burger would have been like on that toast that had come with my soup. The burger itself tasted like lost potential. Yes, if you've ever wondered what an abstract concept tastes like, this burger would work. It could have had a lot more seasoning. And considering this was supposed to be a Cajunesque dish, a little bit of spiciness wouldn't have hurt. And this is not great vegan cheese. If I weren't aware that great vegan cheese existed, I might not have been disappointed. But it sure does. Just not here. Very sweet servers. Prompt, attentive, knowledgeable. But the place overall still just falls a little short for me.

Here's another place to add to the list of why Clintonville is such a cool 'hood, if you're willing to dig beneath its layers. As I mentioned in my review of Pattycake Bakery, a customer's experience lives and dies with service, and the friendly lady who served my friend and I - I wish I could recall her name but can't - could not have been more personable. Granted, we pretty much had the place to ourselves, but nonetheless, she greeted us promptly, guided us through the menu and gave us plenty of helpful recommendations when we needed them (I am not acquainted with many vegetarian restaurants and admittedly do not find a lot of vegetarian meals to be filling), without being cloying. I hadn't even eaten but already I had a good taste in my mouth. I ordered the broccoli burger, which was creamy and moist and mimicked the texture of an actual beef patty while still maintaining a good ol' broccoli flavor. My friend got the eggplant meatball sub, of which I ate a third. We topped it off with an apple streusel that radiated from behind the counter. I don't remember whether it was vegan, but I do remember that it was heavenly. Also giving high marks for having heard The Cure's Disintegration playing somewhere in the background.

I'm typically not a fan of the natural, vegetarian-centric fare, but holy moly this place serves up a mean breakfast. The vegetarian sausage links have a savory flavor and succeed in not trying to be something they're not. English muffins from scratch, delicious potatoes and veggie hash. Eggs cooked correctly. The ambiance is a good dose of hippy, and the service can be a bit surly, but the breakfast here is outstanding.

I love that there is a vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant in Clintonville with really delicious options. The daily specials are always abundant and I have had items that I wish were on the regular menu. There was a Black Bean and Sweet Potato Quesadilla special and now I make that combination at home. I have had the Focaccia Melt which is a great medley of flavors but the bread is what really makes the sandwich. The only thing I don't like about Whole World is the dairy free cheese, not sure of the brand. I still love the restaurant though and pick different items without the weird cheese.

I have only eaten at Whole World on two occasions, both of which during a 24-hour visit to Columbus. The food, service, and atmosphere were so nice, I had to visit twice! I've been vegan for 20 years this month, and I always worry that a "vegetarian" establishment, that is not *strictly* vegan, might prove to be too "cheesy" for a strict vegan. NOT THE CASE HERE! Their vegan friendliness is unsurpassed! I am hoping for the opportunity to visit again, so that I can enjoy more vegan treats! The vegan scramble is an excellent way for me to fill myself up prior to the long flight back to Seattle.

As a vegetarian, this is my favorite new restaurant. Finding a place that accommodates vegetarian and vegans is hard to find, but this place specializes in it! I went here on Sunday around 10 AM to experience breakfast. I got the vegan pancakes (with syrup) and my wife got the scrambled tofu. Both dishes were delicious. My pancakes were quite large and certainly more than enough food for anyone. The moment I bit into the pancakes, I could tell they were a much lighter/healthier option than what you would find in most restaurants. They definitely weren't the heavy, hi-calorie whoppers that you usually find. They were right up my alley and I was very happy with them. My wife's scrambled tofu was delicious. She enjoyed it and mentioned that it was so much better than Whole Food's version of scrambled tofu. Both of our dishes had small pieces of fruit that accompanied them; that was a nice touch. What you won't find on Whole World's website is their really large selection of regular and vegan baked goods. They have a lot of products! As a matter of fact, I'm certain they have a greater selection of baked goods than Pattycake Vegan bakery, which is right down the street. I tried about 6 different types of vegan cookies and they were absolutely delicious! While the cookies are not as large as Pattycake, they are substantially less expensive. In my book, this place is a triple threat: they have breakfast, lunch, dinner AND an awesome baked goods selection. Downsides? None, that I've seen. The restaurant has about 8 to 10 tables, so unless they're slammed, you should be able to find a seat. We parked off of the street and didn't see any dedicated parking for the restaurant, so if you drive there during peak-hours you potentially might have to hunt for a parking spot. Final verdict: this is my favorite new spot!

Best-ever Vegetarian restaurant I have ever eaten at in my whole life!!!! God I wish they had a spot like this one out here in California! I'm not even a Vegetarian and their food was AMAZING!!! For an appetizer we ordered the Hummus Platter. It was by far the best Hummus I had ever had! The bread at this place is so fresh and delicious I almost want to call it a "loving-melt-in-my-mouth enjoyment". I couldn't stop over-eating everything we ordered because it all tasted so darn good. My cousin ordered the Herb & Guacamole Pizza which was huge in size so we all got to have a slice or more and it was delicious!!! My sister ordered the Greek Salad. All ingredients were definitely fresh and delightfully tasteful. The salad portion was easily sharable. I ordered a sandwich they had on special that day which was to die for! I think it was similar to the Foccacia Melt with some kind of sauce on it. I wish I could remember exactly what was on it. It was the best meal ever!

Wonderful fresh and healthy food. Only had a soup and salad for lunch but both were really delicious and filling. Just the right sized portions. Only visiting from out of town or I would definitely be a regular and back to try many of the items listed on the menu or to taste the yummy baked goods on display. Very laid back and friendly service.

Been going for years, mostly great! The burger patties (menu or special) tend to be on the bland side. The raw sandwiches (not advertised as such) including the veggie croissant, Debs on Black, Focaccia melt are great for a light Sammie with fresh basically raw veggies. Don't know where else in town you can get one. The more expensive specials tend to be quite sizable and could possibly satisfy your open minded carnivorous friends and family If you want pizza be ready to wait The flour they use is supposed to be unbleached. The cookie selection is the best in town- Vegan and Gluten Free options too! They are great about subbing cheese for more veggies! They serve meat pizza at ComFest which ticks off some of their vegetarian clients who don't get it. (Me) Their ingredients are not organic in the least, the eggs are just the same crappy factory farmed ones as everyone else- Which puts a damper on their brunch, for me. Orange slices are served with each main course.

Great little hole in the wall. Refreshing vegetarian food that makes you walk away feeling healthy, not loaded down. Super friendly staff. Declined to sample the desserts on this visit. I forget what I ordered...some kind of veggie sandwich on focaccia. I felt like there was a lot of bread to eat around, but the bread was tasty. I really enjoyed the sprouts on the sandwich. They were green, crunchy and alive. If ever I'm in the mood for a healthy lunch, I'll be sure to stop by again.

Solid vegan options, family-friendly, with dedicated regulars. Everything was very well-made, but I would have liked a little more seasoning/spices, it was a bit bland for me. That being said, with the great menu options and being a vegan, I would definitely go here again - places like this are hard to find!

Awesome place for lunch and dinner. We went for my wifes birthday dinner and had a blast. Its a bring your own alcohol type of joint and they were fine when we walked in with two bottles of wine. Service was friendly and helpful. Food was very tasty with lots of vegan options. The place is vegetarian and serves some cheese but has a lot of vegan dishes and they are all yummy. The restaurant is small so I recommend groups of 4 or less.

Whole World is one a few vegan / vegetarian options to consider when dining out in Columbus. I've eaten here a few times now and had some memorable experiences. The food and service has always been superb and although I have never tried any, I've heard other customers raving about the baked goods in the display case. The only problem with Whole World is the building they are in. The dining room is very small and fills up quick. If you venture down stairs to the bathroom it looks as though a one armed, cross-eyed, crack head built it without using a tape measure and ran out of nails. I recommend this place for breakfast, maybe even lunch, but if you've had a long day and are in need of a quiet dinner you might want to skip this place. It only takes one patron who doesn't know what an "Inside Voice" is to ruin a pleasant dining experience. Also make sure you've got a plan B, the oven likes to stop working occasionally and they frequently run out of essentials like Tempeh or Tofu.

Whole World is a simple, small vegetarian cafe with mostly American foods, but a smattering of Asian and Mexican and Middle Eastern dishes as well. I came for Sunday brunch and had a vegan version of the "Big Breakfast" ($8) which consisted of tofu scramble, two homemade sausage patties and vegetable hash. I also had a single "special" vegan pancake ($3) which was just your basic fluffy pancake, albeit with a berry compote on top. Let's break down the individual components. The tofu scramble was dry and could have benefited from some fresh basil, diced tomatoes and chopped jalapenos to the mix. I think Whole World allows you to add ingredients to the scramble, but not on the Big Breakfast plate (at least, the option of modifying the dish wasn't offered to me). The homemade sausage patties weren't bad, but they too could have been slightly more moist (or maybe topped with a mushroom gravy?). The vegetable hash added some freshness and "wetness" to the dish and consisted of corn, carrots and some other simple veggies. It wasn't really seasoned but it complemented the rest of the dish well. The pancake was decent; Whole World's pancake is spongy, whereas I like mine firmer, but it was still tasty enough. For dessert I had a mint carob cookie ($1) which was both clever and tasty. It could have been softer (my guess is that it had gotten hard from sitting out for a while), but it still tasted good. Whole World strikes me as a rock-steady, no-frills cafe that, while not spectacular, will offer you a hearty meal for a low price. The service is friendly and I will definitely return.

This place is crunchy. Like, your weird aunt's unkempt gray hair, thick-socks-in-sandals crunchy. And yet, also charming like your weird aunt's fascination with monkeys. The menu is extremely old-school vegetarian. No Asian-fusion here, just basic sandwiches, soups and hummus plates. However, everything I've had here is very solid and tasty, stick-to-your-ribs style lunch fare. You can't go wrong with their quesadillas (which you can get with fake cheese that is actually tasty), homemade daily soups or the panini. They have a huge case of baked items which are uniformly dry, but nonetheless sweet and tasty enough to buy and crumble into your mouth as a lark. The best aspect is the huge, ultra crunchy mural, and the service which is very aunt-like. Everyone I've ever had wait on me here has been very kind, knowledgeable and caring. I also like the intimate atmosphere. I'm glad a place as weird as this has managed to keep going strong in Columbus all these years.

My vegetarian alter-ego has taken over again! The soup was Verde, 5 green veggies, pureed with chunks of red potato and wheat toast. A broccoli Burger, vegan option, with spinach, sprouts, tomato n onion. Oh, freakin yum. Iced green tea topped it off. Despite being very busy, the feast was delivered in a timely manner. Healthy vegetarian food, vegan options. Cozy atmosphere. Moderate prices. If your sweet tooth is acting up there are goodies in the case by the register that won't disappoint :)

After dinner here on Sunday, I was surprised to think that I'd never written a review. I've been multiple times, for lunch and dinner, starting with my first visit to OSU with my mom in 2005. (Side note: this might have been my first all-vegetarian restaurant visit! A milestone and a mecca, since that I'd navigated Applebees for vegetarian fare through junior high and high school. It might also mean I harbor some nostalgia for this place.). The menu is fairly small and hasn't changed, but they offer daily specials and generally four soups everyday. Soups are very tasty and always seem freshly homemade. I love the crunchy cucumber sandwich. It's nothing crazy or super complicated, but the homemade bread, toasted cheese and fresh veggies are a killer combination. Service can be slow and sometimes food takes a while to come out, but if you look at the size of the staff and the kitchen, it sort of makes sense. Often, there's one waitress for the whole place, that, while small, is still ten tables to serve. I'd say call ahead and order to-go if you have 30 minutes for lunch, but with an hour you'd be good to eat-in. I haven't had too many of their baked goods, but I'd say it's hit or miss. For such a small restaurant, they do way too many things at a time. Five bars and a dozen kinds of cookies seems to mean that they couldn't possibly bake fresh daily, and if you get a creation from earlier in the week, it can be sort of disappointing. I'd be just as happy, and much more likely to order, if the selection were half as big but twice as fresh.

Broccoli burger, oh man this sandwich is so good. I always add a little hot sauce, but other then that it's perfect. I love this place, don't know why I don't make My way there often enough. They have super delicious baked goods also.

Whole World had me at: "Make any sandwich a platter with blue corn chips and a dill pickle spear for 2.00" Clintonville is my favorite area of Columbus and Whole World may be my favorite lunch destination. When I became a vegetarian oh so long ago, my mom gamely took me here when I was visiting the ol' homestead from college. I think the avocado croissant sandwich almost (almost) turned her into a vegetarian. In addition to the avocado croissant they have at least 10 other sandwiches, ranging from a relatively simple grilled cheese to the seitan gyro and an elegant eggplant meatball sub. When most restaurants toss a veggie burger on the menu and call it a day, this is just really nice. And they have more on the menu besides sandwiches -- pizza (soy cheese optional), soup, brunch - and lots of vegan options. The prices are so reasonable that I could easily eat regularly, feel good about what I'm eating AND how much I'm spending. While I haven't lived in Columbus for some time now, I always make a beeline for Whole Word when I get the chance. I've never been let down in all this time.

What can I say? Excellent food (no I am not a vegie or vegan) served in generous portions, quickly, by a great staff that KNOWS the menu. NEVER had a bad meal here. The daily soups are heartwarming. It is really hard to order food when the cookies and tarts are staring at you-they are wonderful! EAT HERE even if you aren't vegan.

This place is a total gem. Good food and friendly service. A vegetarian's total happy place. Had the best lunch and vegan cookies (omg, the chocolate choco chip was so good!!). I had the southwest wrap because it was recommended and it did not disappoint. :)

  • Not Your Average ..

I really enjoy the area around the restaurant, and the restaurant itself ( apart from the basement) is nice and cozy. The food quality isn't really the greatest, it's priced reasonably but I think their menu can really be improved upon. We had the pizza and the hummus plate and it was so mediocre. You can have a better meal for less at whole foods buffet ( even just the vegan options). Meh.

This is a classic old school vegan casual restaurant. The decor is straight out of the 1970s, and the food options were awesome and excellent, and at reasonable prices. Nothing about this place is pretentious or stuffy, just down home veggie food done right. I will definitely come back again.

Eggplant sub is one of my faves. The seitan gyro is pretty good too. Broccoli burger is hit or miss. Lots of tasty vegan or non-vegan treats!

Love both of their croissant sandwiches (one is veggie and one is avocado)! Great for dining in with my family or taking home. We try not to get a cookie every time, but they're pretty hard to resist.

Bad service will cause me to leave a otherwise good restaurant. I attempted to take my wife to lunch at Whole World. The small restaurant was busy and we waited for a table to be clear. Not a word was spoken to us, after a couple of minutes other people walked in and where immediately greeted and told the table would be ready in a second. Snobby vegans? Well we left and will not return. There plenty a no meat options in other restaurants in our great city. Whole World rude and over priced snobby food.

I gave up meat this year and this place is an amazing place to eat because it has so many options. I wanted everything on the menu. I had the Focaccia Melt with avocado which was amazing. My friend got the sweet potato and black bean burger which was pretty good as well. (We decided the best to handle trying everything was to split and share what we each got lol) Go here and embrace the veggies!

One of the best experiences I have ever in a restaurant was the first time I came here. We received a warm welcome when we walked in the door and, even though we had to wait, they kept us informed. We brought our 1 year old, at the time, who they offered a plate of fruit to; even bringing her extra. For kids, I suggest the (tofu?) sloppy joes. Our kid loved it. Thank you Whole World!

"PUSH! Push harder!!" No, we're not in a vegan-friendly maternity ward, but at the somewhat challenging-to-open front door of a perennial favorite of mine: Whole World. After many years - and two previous reviews - there's really only two things I mumble about when I visit: how hard the front door is to open, and how time seems to slow down a little once you push through that first barrier. I find myself wondering: If they were to adjust the tension, is there a chance that the door would keep blowing open, making the guests inside hot or cold depending on the season? When paying for heating and cooling, you don't want it all going out the door. So maybe the high tension spring on the door is there for a reason? Or maybe the employees only come and go through the back door (and therefore don't notice), and customers are too nice to complain? For a little entertainment, watch the door as people try to come in. It's like a test-your-strength machine - only it's free, and it's barring entry to one of the best restaurants in Columbus! Of course, it's a lot more funny when it's someone else trying to open the door, not you, so make sure you enjoy this - you've earned it. Is the service still a little slow? Probably. Do I always seem to go in when they're jam-packed? Yes. SO...although the speed of service hasn't appeared to have changed much, at least it hasn't gotten worse. I saw a help wanted ad on the front door, so maybe they just need a person or two to round out the team? This is a great place for vegetarians and vegans to eat - it's a vegetarian restaurant. At most places, if you ask for something vegan, and they bring it out with cheese or meat or something, you're made to feel like a pain in the butt customer. Not here. You say vegan, they write down vegan, and if the kitchen messes it up, you get a decent apology. Not that this has happened many times to me in the past, but when something non-vegan slips onto your plate, it's taken care of pronto, with no guilt. Speaking of food, let's talk about it.... Many know Whole World as a great place to get Broccoli Burgers at ComFest each year. Obviously, they have a much greater selection of veggie burgers at the restaurant, if that's your thing, but recently I've been trying some of the other vegan specials. Oh, and the specials are written up on a glow-board near the kitchen entrance, so you can peruse if you have good eyes, or just let them tell you what the specials are. The folks here know the difference between vegetarian and vegan, so just tell them what your requirements are, and they can usually accommodate. Listen to the buzz around you, and you'll hear people asking about vegan, gluten-free, you name it. Most (all?) of the food is made in-house and fresh. This means they know all the ingredients, and can tell you about the food if you're curious. Now, you might be asking: "Sean...why are you writing a third review update for this place, when you still have a huge backlog of places you've visited that you haven't reviewed?" The answer is simple: brunch. Brunch at Whole World is inspiring, and having just gone here recently with a party of four, I can speak to the experience with a clear mind and fresh memories. Do you like pancakes? Who doesn't like pancakes?! How about -awesome- pancakes? Awesome pancakes with maple syrup, real fruit topping (sometimes berries, sometimes apples), and a side of seasonal fruit (e.g., cantaloupe)? Yeah, then these pancakes are for you! Probably the best vegan-friendly pancakes I've ever had. Prefer fresh french toast made up just like the pancakes above? They do that too! And, the best part of eating with a table of four, is that you can share, and try everything out. It can be a tough call for some folks to choose between pancakes and french toast - so go with a friend, or go back multiple weeks. When I go, I never get pancakes or french toast - I just do the sharing thing - because I'm a big fan of the Big Breakfast. As a vegan, you have your tofu scramble, your choice of vegetable hash or potatoes, some form of bread (I usually get an english muffin), and vegan sausage patties. Yeah, it's big. If you have a big table, and no one else is getting a meal with potatoes, you can even get the vegetable hash on your plate, and get a separate side plate of potatoes - they're yummy. Standard beverages: coffee, tea, water and juice (apple, orange and grapefruit), and a huge selection of desserts in the bakery case - save room! Clearly marked "vegetarian" and "vegan" with white and green cards. I love places that make vegan dining out easy. Thanks Whole World! Oh, and I've upgraded this rating to a five-star, because it's truly my favorite vegetarian restaurant in Columbus thus far. The wait for food is probably because the food is so fresh, and they're always so busy when I go. The front door will probably just remain one of life's great and comical mysteries....

Whole World is a charming little vegetarian friendly spot in the heart of Clintonville. Their food is really delicious. The depth and richness of flavors in a wide variety of dishes at Whole World make it one of my local favorites time and time again. I've been a handful of times with family and friends and each time we go I get something different and it's all been deliciously yummy. My personal favs: ***Greek Salad*** TONS of fresh veggies: carrots, cabbage, artichoke hearts, tomatoes, cucumbers, sprouts, red onion, & kalamata olives. The dressing is DELISH! ***Avocado Croissant*** I think what makes this so wonderful is the croissant. It is light, flaky, and you can tell it's not from Sodexo or Sams. ***Seitan Gyro*** This flavor-filled little gem is always a hit at the table. It has lots of veggies and I personally love the tahini sauce on it. Oh, and it would be a crime to visit Whole World and not try one of their amazing bakery items. I am not going to lie--sometimes I go to eat lunch there just so I can hit up their dessert case afterwards. :-)

Cute little diner full of great food! I was a little disappointed with the service. It was very slow and not the awesome even when I was addressed...maybe it was just an off day. The food made up for it though! There are a variety of foods for vegetarians and vegans! They even have a huge selection of vegan cookies. Yum!

If you want the vegetarian experience from top to bottom, head into Whole World. It's not upscale, it's not high-brow, it's crunchy-granola, big cookies, seitan and lots of nutritional yeast and vegetables (of course). The wonderful mural is a backdrop to a small, fun, homey space. Local artists' creations line the walls (this most recent visit, it was the artwork of our waiter). Depending on how busy it is, you may need to wait for a table or be waved in by the staff to sit wherever you'd like. The daily specials are listed on a chalkboard, and everything is noted as to whether it is or can be made vegan. Onto the food. If you eat anything at Whole World, it's gotta be soup, with their homemade bread. I crave this stuff when I've been eating badly and need to reset my taste buds. Anything from Mexican barley to tomato basil to kale and potato - the specials usually include at least two soups each day. A slice of toasted bread and I'm set. Their menu has not changed much over the years. Huge salads with plenty of veggies (and homemade dressings that are to die for), unique sandwiches with creative ingredients - an eggplant-"meatball" sub, seitan gyros, veggie croissant, and the Deb's on Black - whatever you're craving, it's there. They also have pizzas which can be made vegan, and a delicious hummus and veggie appetizer. You will leave feeling full, and happy. And if you are still craving something sweet? Whole World is the original natural bakery! A display case at the counter shows off their big cookies, brownies and other goodies. Nothing over the top, just really, really good. No schtick, no gimmicks, no "chik'n," just deliciously-made healthy food.

Having eaten here a couple of times now, I can tell you I will be a regular! Everything on the menu I have tried has been fantastic. I love that many of the items are vegan or are vegan optional. I recently had their reuben which was one of their specials and I am all but begging them to add it to their menu as a regular item. They also did a TVP chicken salad wrap that was to die for. Yes, it is a bit of a summer time food but I want it year round. We went in early today for brunch and shared the big breakfast (again... all vegan options!) and the french toast with apples. SO GOOD. I would recommend arriving early and be prepared for a wait if you are coming around lunch time. It is busy and well deservedly so!

I went with a friend at a fairly slow point - early dinner/late afternoon on a Sunday. We got the hummus plate and B.L.T.s. The BLT? What can I say? It was the worst bit of food I've ever purchased at a restaurant. The bread had a strange aftertaste and the "bacon" came in thick rubbery, room-temperature slabs that had an odd, lingering vinegar flavor. I ate the tomatoes and left the rest. Meanwhile, the hummus plate ordered as an appetizer showed up after our meals and only subsequent to my having to prompt the non-plussed waitress. There was practically a "Harrumph!" when she said she'd go check on it, no apology. I was a server for ages so believe me I'm not being harsh when I say the attitude was pretty ridiculous. And the hummus? The same hummus plate served at every casual dining place in the '90s. Complete w/rubbery microwaved pita. Never going back.

5 Stars!! Vegetarian's dream!! The only thing I'm upset about is that I have lived in Columbus 9 years & I haven't been eating here the whole time! I ordered off of the Sunday brunch menu (Big Breakfast) & off the lunch sandwich menu (vegetable croissant)... Both were delicious & fresh! I cannot wait to go back next weekend!

Ate here this afternoon. There's a great mural on the wall and a very charming woman with a great accent who works there. I had a burger with vegan cheese. The bun was hot and homemade. The vegan corn chowder was delicious. There was even a chocolate peanut butter bar for dessert. I'm from Hamilton, but if I lived in the area, I'd be sure to eat there often... I might just make a return trip for more baked goods.

This place is an institution and I would heartily recommend to anyone that doesn't need parts of the carcass of an animal for their lunch. The people are so nice, without exception. The seitan gyro is my latest obsession. The ambiance is so comfy and classic. The mural is so 1996--right down to the glorification of Celestial Seasonings' Red Zinger tea. Yeah try it. You can't go wrong.

I came here with a friend today and she had introduced me to the restaurant and I was very pleased. The menu looked so hearty and healthy. I ordered the cream of cauliflower soup and it was hearty on this cold day to warm me up. It came with their fresh made bread that they make themselves. The bread was flavorful as well. The menu is so easy to go through, I ended up going with the Eggplant Meatball Sub, it was so good that I couldn't finish it all. Don't blame me, I had ran 3 miles and done a 30 minute circuit prior to this meal so digesting that much food is not that easy for me. I finished the meal and looked through their dessert counter and got the snickerdoodle bars and hopefully that will be a great treat since I have yet to try it. I will definitely be back here soon! At least with my husband too!

I'm a total fan of Whole World. Sure, they are not always consistent. For example, their vegan sweets have been pretty crumbly and dry lately (throughout the early part of 2014) but overall, WWNRB is a really great place with kind staff. They have a variety of specials everyday but I usually stick with the vegan BLT. I've even begged to buy the tofu-bacon in bulk. They don't offer that option but the waitress kindly gave me some to take home. How sweet is that? We've ordered the greek pizza on numerous occasions and even served it to some avid-carnivores and they loved it. They have plenty of vegetarian & vegan options and serve up the most amazing vegan pancakes on the weekend. Street parking is always easy to find. The only thing this place needs is free-wifi.

If this is what vegans eat, then count me in :) For those of you who are afraid to step out of your comfort zone and try, let's say a brown rice burger, broccoli burger, tofu sloppy joes, or an eggplant meatball sub please don't be afraid. Go towards the vegan light!! This place is fantastic! Everything is fresh and good. And the bread, omg the bread!! It's magnificent all by itself, let alone with something on it! I just love this place. I love the food, the quaintness, and the service. It's a great Saturday/Sunday to have lunch here and then walk around to all the antique shops in the area. It makes for a fabulous day!

I'm not a vegetarian. Not by a long shot. But I think I could swing that way if every place made non-meat dishes the way Whole World does. The Southwest burger was on special. The brown rice, black bean, corn, and red pepper patty was grilled until it was moist and juicy throughout with a tasty crust on the outside. Topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion, and avacado ailoi, and served on a fresh house-made whole wheat bun. This may be a contender for best burger in the city....meat or otherwise. My wife had the cucumber sandwich with sprouts, mayo, and some other stuff. Equally awesome. We also walked out with four or five delicious homemade cookies. Some vegan, some not. Can't tell the difference honestly. All this for only $21. I think we would have spent around $40 at North Star for the same type of meal, and although their burger is similar and delicious, it's been edged out by Whole World.

I wanted so badly to love Whole World. Hole in the wall vibe? My favorite. Oldest vegetarian restaurant in Columbus? Now you've really grabbed my attention. I was unfortunately nothing short of underwhelmed. Maybe it was my bad as a novice, but when I first went in I was fully under the impression that this was a "order at the register and someone will bring you your food" kinda joint. Wrong. Save yourself the 10 minutes of just confusedly standing around looking at the scenery and sit down when you first walk in. My friend and I had such a nice waitress who was really pleasant to chat with...but she needed help! Poor girl was working the entire restaurant by herself while it was packed. But then, the food. I got the "B"LT that everyone seems to rave about. But it was just...meh (to my palate, at least). It seemed to be drenched in that bottled "smokey" flavor and it was just incredibly overpowering and not very tasty with nothing else to balance it out. My hummus was unfortunately bland. Now, the baked goods really saved this place for me. The cookie that I got to go on my way out was soft, delicious and the perfect end to a not-so-great meal. I'm definitely going to come back to Whole World to try something else on the menu and see if it was maybe just the "B"LT that I couldn't get into...but, if I had to make a recommendation? I'd just say get some yummy baked goods to-go and avoid the savory entirely.

Definitely worth a 5 star!!! As yelp says vegetarians truly go nuts in here :) The menu contains salads, soups, burgers and pizzas only. The restaurant has a very basic but yet pleasing decor. The staff are very nice and friendly. Definitely ask for a guidance if you don't understand anything on the menu. We tried the vegetable and the avocado croissant. The ingredients felt very fresh. The taste was phenomenal. The choc chip cookie and raspberry bar were a bit on the down side, maybe the chef was not feeling good that day(who knows). But that doesn't stop us coming to this place again! Must try for vegetarians and for fresh and delightful experience.

Stopped here for a light dinner, after a walk through Whetsone Park. The restaurant itself is across the street from SoBo Style and Cottage Street. It's a very small, quaint place with perhaps 10 tables. Our server greeted us right away, and provided us with water and menus. We chose the Greek hummus platter, which was delicious. It was so fresh. I could've ate two of them to myself. I picked the crunchy cucumber sandwich, and I loved every bite if it. I am in no way a vegetarian or vegan, but I would definitely order it again. The bakery items were behind a big, glass case. I was so full after our meal, so I didn't try anything, but they looked so good. I will definitely be back. Speedy, friendly service, and great food--even for the meat lovers.

Who needs meat? Not I. Clintonville is just full of awesome brunch places. Between Jack & Benny's, Nancy's, and now Whole World, I'm convinced that some of Columbus' best and unique breakfast experiences are in this district. I rarely order omelets, mostly because the standard eggs, bacon, toast, and hash browns/home fries fare is usually my go-to. Omelets are something I make at home or order at a specialty restaurant because they're too often oozing with cheese, but lacking in vegetables. Instead of a meagerly filled omelet, this one was practically exploding in veggies! I ordered a mushroom, broccoli, and tomato omelet with pepper jack cheese. Oh my goodness. This omelet was huge, too, but relatively healthy and extremely delicious. Whole World is small, but the staff is friendly and you'll be served quickly. If you're looking for a vegetarian and vegan brunch spot, or anywhere serving healthy breakfast fare, look no further.

I didn't really know this was a sit down establishment until a few weeks ago. I thought it was one of those funky new age health stores. I am so happy I was wrong! Side note: If I could, this would be 3.5 stars. I had the crunchy cucumber sandwich and it was off the wall amazeballs. It was salty and crunchy and earthy and delicious. The avocado was a really nice touch. I had a bite of my friend's southwest burger, it was also amazing. I'm not sure where they get the bread, but it was definitely the highlight of both sandwiches. My only request would be that the sandwiches come automatically with more than two tiny orange slices. Totally worth the $8-$9 for the veg. sandwich at that point! Get there at an off time or right before you think a crowd would start. It's really small. By the time we left, our vacated table was the only free seat in the place. Another tip: service was slooow. I'm sure it has to do with quality/homemade/etc. but don't come here if you're in a hurry!

Great food and a pleasant atmosphere. Fresh baked breads, cookies and such. Vegan, gluten free and vegetarian options. It is small, as others have said, so getting there when there isn't a rush is a good idea. But, you can always take it with you if you don't want to sit inside. I have never been dissapointed by their food. Sure, there are some things I don't care for, more from a personal taste perspective, but nothing has been "bad". The soups are great, the hummus is mmm mmm good. With summer approaching, it's a great place to get some fresh and refreshing food.

You know a vegetarian dish is good when (if you're not a vegetarian) you crave it, but have meat-filled options. I finally got the chance to try the broccoli burger everyone raves about and it's true - its pretty amazing. I actually felt semi-healthy eating it! When can you say that while eating a 'burger'?! I tasted the broccoli, which was strange but delicious, and the mayo, onion & cheese combo made it all the better. Seating is cramped inside but it didn't really seem to detract from intimate table conversation. I didn't notice the dessert case until I paid my bill but everything in it was telling me I should've saved some room. I hear the brunch is stellar so I'm thinking a return trip is in order on a weekend that I'm feeling particularly unhealthy and wanting to avoid the temptation of bacon.

I've been here a couple of times as I only live a block away and the food has always been good. However, after this last experience I doubt I will be going back. The service my wife received when she went in to grab our pickup order was something out of candid camera. She called in and was told the food would be ready in 20 to 30 minutes, so after 15 minutes she went in so she could get the food as soon as it was ready. She waited and I stayed out in the car with our 1 year old, we were on our way home, and he wasn't happy I might add. After 45 minutes my wife asked how much longer would it be, she was told it would be another 5 to 10 minutes because they "were slammed." Okay, then why initially say it was going to be 20 to 30. So my wife waited... and waited... and waited. Meanwhile I had been circling around the block for 25 minutes because our 1 year old was crying. My wife asked again at the 1 hour mark and guess what they told her, another 5 to 10. She FINALLY got the food 1 hour and 10 minutes after placing the order, remember they told us 20 to 30 minutes. But wait, the order was wrong. My wife asked for no mustard and they LOADED her sandwich with mustard and it would take another 5 to 10 to make her a new one. You've got to be kidding me? My wife was visiably upset at this point, the only thing they would do is refund the cost of the sandwich THAT MY WIFE COULDN'T EAT BECAUSE THEY SCREWED IT UP. The girl did offer to tape a note to the register with my wife's name giving her a free meal. Kinda worthless if you ask me because it will be a loooooooooong time before I even considering going back, and what are the chances that note survives two weeks. I don't know if I've been more disappointed, I generally will support local businesses, but after this experience I don't know if I'll return. I gave them 2 stars only because I really like the eggplant meatball sandwich. Stay away from this place if you have any time constraints because you'll never know how long it will take.

We split the veggie mushroom burger (one of the specialty items, which I subbed mayo for spicy mustard) and the broccoli burger...and I have to say these were two of the best veggie burgers I've had! The broccoli burger was truly unique and had a ton of flavor. The heaping helping of carm onions on the mushroom burger made it mouthwatering. Cute restaurant. Enjoyed the atmosphere: hole in the wall, family owned, "indie" place.

I've eaten here several times and I just wish that it wasn't so tiny. The food is fine, but the seats are hard and there isn't a lot of space if you are waiting for a table. You kind of just hover over other diners' tables, which is kind of weird. Whenever I go they always seem to have some issue in the kitchen - one time the oven broke during brunch; another time, they were out of pretty basic ingredients. I'll keep coming for the food, but that's the only reason.

Before Pattycake, before Benevolence, before North Star, even before Whole Foods started slinging tofu and busting unions in Austin back in the 80s, there was Whole World. It's not flashy. It's not hip. It's not fast. It is, however, a Columbus institution. Back in my vegan days this was my go-to breakfast spot. Even now that I'm back on team animal-product it's still one of my favorites. I missed it terribly when it was closed by the fire. (Am I the only one who secretly hoped that the mural had been destroyed?) With a few exceptions, everything I've ever had here has been good. Things are rarely great, though there are some exceptions there, too. The vegan sausage is definitely something I'll pass on, but the red lentil burger I had tonight was in the same league as the now-legendary Northstar burger. As a bakery Whole World holds its own, too. Many of the desserts here are as good as some of the stuff at Pattycake (though I'm not sure they're ALL necessarily vegan) and, frankly, I trust the folks at Whole World to put good stuff into my body just a little bit more than I trust Pattycake (vegan does not equal healthy), though I've never done any real label comparisons to confirm that. The bread is awesome and before the fire they used to sell it by the loaf, but tonight the young woman working the front of the house wasn't sure if they were going to start doing that again. If you're an omnivore-supremacist Whole World definitely isn't going to please you. But if you're okay with a meatless meal, are in the mood for something healthy, and willing to take a gamble on slow service, Whole World rarely disappoints.

This isn't a place you (I) would wander into because it looked like a yummy hipster vegetarian/vegan bakery that happens to serve a solid Sunday brunch... but that's why we have Yelp! It turned out to be a much better experience than the Bob Evans we abandoned down the street, and without the twenty minute wait! Between the eggs/tofu, the pancakes (vegan option), the french toast, and the biscuits n gravy, something should hit the spot here even for dedicated meat-eaters. My friends and I all got three-egg omelets. I'd get something else next time, as the toppings were just piled inside... although I suspect the very quick prep time can be attributed to the latter. I also had the biscuit with a side of vegetarian black pepper gravy. This was the star! I'd go back just to get that gravy. As for the bakery, I tried a vegan snickerdoodle to go. I wanted to love it, because I really want to believe vegans can have delicious moist cookies too... but this cookie was HARD. Like, old-biscotti hard. If you like your cookies crispy - really crispy - it might be OK... otherwise, keep searching, vegans. Flavorwise it was delicious, and I'd be willing to experiment with their other offerings.

Since moving here, my eyes have been opened to a whole new world (no pun intended) of vegetarian/vegan fare. Whole World has been a delicious gift to my taste buds. The brunch was great - I had the veggie hash and eggs. Their hearty garden salad was delicious (buttermilk dressing I could drink by the bucketful) and I recently tried the Deb's on Black (had it on their GF bread) and it was super tasty. Excited to try more items on their menu.

This is my idea of a greasy spoon. I have so many favorites here. Keep in mind that it is a small place so finding a seat at a busy time may be difficult. So if you have extra time, wander around the area as there are many shops to stop in. The brunch is quite good. This place has an excellent selection of vegetarian options, a wide ranging menu, lots of great specials, and they will make substitutions. The pizzas take a little while, but are worth the wait. The salads are huge, so maybe consider splitting one. The sage burger is excellent but I have a hard time resisting their avocado and cheese croissant sandwich. They also have some amazing desserts. Their herbal tea selection in impressive and all their other drinks are good as well. They offer filling and satisfying feel-good food in an unassuming manner at a price that represents a good value.

Whole World made me think of a European fairy tale all because of the furniture and the mural on the back wall of the rabbit painting on an easel with an artist's palette and French beret. It's not that sleek modern and trendy look of places like Northstar Café and Panera. The building is clearly an older one and it kind of shows. None of this is actually bad, mind you. Come to find out, Whole World is a vegetarian restaurant that's been around for quite a while. Since 1978 to be exact. The menu is of interest. I tried the broccoli burger and I liked it pretty well. Of course, I haven't had too many veggie burgers before. Despite being completely meatless it was a hearty burger; it stuck with me all afternoon rather than leaving me hungry a couple hours later. If you're an avocado fan you might like this place because quite a few of their sandwiches are made with the vegetable-fruit.

Vegan restaurant choice #1. This place is fantastic, though a little higher priced than some other places, you can taste the difference in the quality of the food. Great sandwiches, their quiche is pretty good, and the plantain quesadilla rocked. The place is really small, maybe 7 tables, but it's always so quiet with some good alternative music coming out of the back that the cooks are jamming to.

I ate at Whole World this afternoon and was blown away. I love hippie places like this - your tummy feels like it got something yummy and your body feels happy from all the health and nutrients. Win win. Whole World is tiny and quirky. Some would call it cramped. I call it intimate. The food is awesome. I split the herbed foccacia sandwich and the broccoli burger. The bread on both sandwiches was incredible. They make all their bread in-house and they sell loaves frozen if you want to take it home. I am definitely buying some of their bread this week for home. The broccoli burger was wicked good. I mean, WICKED good. So good, in fact, that I am attempting to re-create it at home right now as I type. I may have to come back every week just for that burger. We also split a salad. The salad, while simple, was immensely enjoyable. I loved the sunflower seeds on top and the housemade tahini dressing. The prices were definitely right too. Something tells me that this is going to be my new go-to spot.

I don't think my bright pink tank peaking out under my dark blue shirt and green scarf was approved of at Whole World. The moment I walked it, everyone stared at me. I felt so awkward! I didn't go for a meal, but instead to check out the bakery selection. I was thinking it would be all natural and healthy. I was disappointed to find out that almost every item was baked with margarine instead of butter. I also expected the ingredients to be readily accessible or at least instantly known by the employees. I was told what they thought was in each cookie, not necessarily what actually was in them. I did purchase a wheat-free, fruit and nut cookie. It contained oats, raisins and pineapple-which I thought was a clever touch! It was very soft, and bit heavy. It wasn't tasty enough to buy again. I did notice the variety of soups on the menu. Although the baked goods didn't impress me, I am interested in trying some of the daily specials.

I love Whole World, especially the brunch (big vegan breakfast). All of the soups are vegan, and most everything can be made vegan. The dishes are simple, and honestly I could make better food at home, but it's delicious nonetheless. There is also a huge selection of (vegan) desserts. The place is very tiny (including the booths) and cramped, and they almost always run out of items, especially at brunch.

Service is achingly slow The mushroom burger was decent, but the bun kinda sucked. I support the vegan/homegrown mission, but the long wait for the food made it harder to enjoy the meal.

I love vegetarian places as a matter of course, so my liking this place isn't really a huge surprise-- but Whole World is also even more delicious than most veg fare, has a cute atmosphere, and is pretty inexpensive. No complaints from me! I had the Focaccia Melt, which was very good; the bread in particular is excellent. I've also had their Broccoli Burger before, and it is every bit as praise-worthy as others here are making it out to be. In general, the food is both flavorful and filling, and the latter quality in particular is sometimes hit or miss with American-ish veg food. It's only street parking and the cafe itself is quite small, but the overall impression is cozy and intimate versus tiny and cramped. I don't know how restaurants manage this, I'm assuming some trick of lighting, table placement, and interesting brightly colored murals on the wall. If there were a big crowd it'd be pretty packed, though. Our server was also really great; friendly and efficient, and not minding that, as late dinner eaters, they basically had to close the place after us. I didn't get the chance to try their baked goods, but that is on my list next time I go!

Last time I was in (not reviewed) I had a Deb's on Black sandwich. It was great--good, interesting combo of tastes and textures, nice crunchy bread, fresh ingredients. Today, I tried the black bean soup & a sweet potato and black bean quesadilla special from the board. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was only ok. The soup had no depth or flavor other than black beans and salt--very watery and spice-free. The special was messy, very unrefined--like something you would make at home in a great hurry-- and although I detected a little more flavor and spice than the soup, it was totally forgettable. Nothing in this special was special. The chunks of veggies were too big, there was not enough cheese to bind the pile of veg, the tortilla was dry. Why go to a restaurant? It seems that the things WW does well are very good, and everything else is a sloppy afterthought. Restuarants should make food better (or at least more interesting/complex/fresher) than we can make at home. Specials should be special. Put a little love into it.

After reading a review of Whole World in a local paper a little over a year ago, I couldn't wait to go try a broccoli burger here. A veggie burger that didn't involve me nuking it in the microwave piqued my interest. I promptly looked this establishment up on the internet only to find that a fire(!) had temporarily closed it down. I was more than a little bummed. Apparently the fire was minor and the restaurant eventually re-opened. I ventured in yesterday for lunch(finally). The delicious smell of pizzas in the oven assaulted me as I opened the door. The food-smells of a restaurant upon entering are a big indicator for me of how my experience is going to be. I was not disappointed here. I ordered the broccoli burger sans mayo. They do have a lot of vegan options here also, but I appreciate that it is only optional. I drank iced green tea and all in all, I left wondering why I never ate there before? Vegetarian or not, this place is delicious. A slight detraction is that the dining room is SO small, but if it's that busy, you can get carry out also.

I give this place major props for serving only vegetarian food with vegan options as well. However, I've found it to be lacking in a few things, namely flavor and service. The food here is not bad by any means and is definitely healthy, but I felt like the dishes I tried could have had more flavor to them and they were somewhat bland. The service has also been hit or miss when I've gone. The last time I went, my friends and I were not treated to very friendly service, but I've had a lot worse. So, overall, I like Whole World and appreciate it for giving me some vegetarian options when I eat out. I just wish I could feel more excited about my experiences I've had there...

The place was packed when we first arrived. This was a good sign. I'd been to whole world in the past, but this was my first brunch experience there. A table left and our super nice server quickly cleared and washed it. I got a coffee, must have been in the works as it took longer than most places to make it's way to me. I had also requested soy cream and was brought half and half (I tried some to make sure before I ruined my whole cup of coffee and the dairy coated my throat, gross!). It wasn't a big deal though, it was loud in there and I mumble. The meal was outstanding. We both got the vegan big breakfast. The highlight was the vegetable hash, awesome with a little hot sauce. Vegan sausage was yummy too. It got to our table super fast too. I will definitely return to whole world. Very good Sunday brunch, all the staff was quite friendly, and the began cookies are a steal compared to other places.

4.5 stars....but gotta go 5! So you are looking for some vegetarian fare made of your liking in a simple and cozy atmosphere...then Whole World is your calling! For vegetarian fare, I take this place over Northstar any day. The atmosphere is 'boutique,' cozy and colorful! The staff try hard to create a more "personalized and intimate" dining experience crafting a different menu each day. The day I went (a few months ago), they offered this really good spinach quiche. While the portion was a bit on the small side, the flavors were nicely balanced and the quiche itself was soaked to a flowery crisp. In addition, I had the chilled gazpacho soup. The flavor was refreshing and the soup itself was nice and chunky! The iced tea was to die for. This quiet and unassuming place is a gem in vegetarian dining. The prices are also nice and cheap!

Just a FYI, from Whole World's website: "Due to a fire we will be closed for few weeks while the fire damage is repaired. Check here for updates and reopening information. If you wish to supply your email address for future updates, then please do so at Wholeworldrestaurant@gma… . We're hoping to reopen by mid January, but a specific date has not yet been determined. Thanks for all of your support over the years and in future years." Get well soon Whole World!! We miss your vegan big breakfast!!!

Everyone who knows me, and who I am, know that I adhere strictly to the five major food groups: Beef, Pork, Chicken, Fish, and Cheese. I preface my review based on those qualifications: please feel free to take my comments with a grain of Nu-Salt (That's potassium chloride for all those keeping score at home). It was not my first choice to go to Whole Foods for a business lunch -- it was that of my partners. But being someone who enjoys a good adventure, I wasn't about to turn down the chance to enjoy a new cuisine. So off to the limbo between Clintonville and Campus I ventured, to visit The Whole World. Nestled against an antique mall, finding the place was an adventure indeed ... followed by crossing High Street, which is never fun at its dead hours. The small, intimate settings makes for a very nice break from the business that Columbus can be. The local, reasonably priced art is very visual and adds to the coziness of Whole World. The first thing you will notice is your menu in front of you ... and the lack of meat on it. Everything in the store is vegeterian or Vegan, and is considerably better. Furthermore, you won't hear any of the great terms processed with many restaurants here that are bad for your health -- the restaurant and bakery take a completely health- and earth-concious approach to everything, including the baked goods: they are cooked with Margarine instead of Butter. Despite my whining that there were no meat items on the menu, my server was surprisingly polite and even gave me several selections that were here favorites. Among them, were the Mushroom-Swiss Burger, the Foccacia Melt, and the Avocado Croissant. I ordered the hearty salad. After getting the salad, I wish I would have gotten the Avocado Croissant instead. Our contractor ordered the red cabbage soup. It looked thick enough to eat with a fork; he commented that it had more of a beet flavor than the cabbage flavor, making me long even more for something outside my salad. Don't get me wrong -- I like a good salad. But I must admit that I was a little dissapointed about this one. It reminded me of a regular garden-variety salad that you can buy in a bag at a store for $3.49 (plus tax). And the overuse of chickpeas was a little dissapointing. The honey mustard dressing was good...but between the cost of those two items at a grocery store, I could have had salad for three days at home. My partner had the Greek Salad, which looked a lot more delectable than what I had ordered. They did have one item on the menu that impressed me to no end -- the 100% Knudsen Juice Spritzer. The different flavors they had sounded even more delicious than what I had -- and if I just happened to be in the neighborhood during regular business hours and had an extra $2 to spend, I'd consider walking back in for a boysenberry spritzer to go. While the meals were a value, I don't know that I'd consider going back to eat. Or if I do, I'll reconsider what I order from the menu. They did offer a tofu sloppy joe...but I'm not usually a fan of bean curd. Now, if they put on a potato soup on the menu, I'd be much more inclined and interested to go. Long and the short of it: if you like vegetarian or vegan food, or want to partake in something somewhere on the adventerous side, I would recommend Whole World to you. The staff is friendly, the decorum is cozy, and it offers several health-concious options for lunch, dinner, and desert. Just be forewarned that you may be dissapointed if you order the salad. But if you're like me, who enjoys meat...I can't say this would be a pleasant dining experience for you.

Don't let the vegan-friendly status of this Clintonville bakery and café fool you- the food here is actually edible. Not only is it edible, but it's also pretty darn good. Sure, the menu has its fait share of bland piles of sprouts and cucumbers that are passed off as sandwiches, but is is indeed possible for a carnivore that has no concern for the environment or their health to find an item that's both tasty and filling. For me, it was the Sloppy Joe sandwich on a homemade ciabatta roll. It's a pretty simple dish, consisting of little else but ground up tofu in a light barbecue-esque sauce. Believe it or not, it actually tasted like an honest-to-gosh Sloppy Joe that I used toe at on summer afternoons back when I was a kid. They could've played up the sloppiness a little and added more sauce to the mix, but overall I Was very satisfied with the results and would recommend it to anyone that's eating there for the first time. The group I was with also shared a plate of black bean nachos as an appetizer, which was inhaled within ten minutes and was enjoyed by everyone. With the food aspect out of the way, there are only a couple of gripes I have with the rest of the Whole World experience. The café itself is absolutely tiny, and the chairs and tables follow suit. Being 6'3" made it very hard for me to get in and out of my booth without feeling like I was going to knock the table over every time. I understand that they strive to fill the space as efficiently as possible, but the tables here are only suited for half as many people as there are chairs around them. To put it simply: don't come here with more than 2 people. I can't imagine this place ever getting terribly busy, which is a good thing because the service here is pretty bad as well. It's not that the servers aren't friendly, as they are some of the friendliest Clintonville hipsters I've ever run across, it's just that there's no one else running the show to keep them in check and remind them that the customer is more important than whatever's going on with their iPhone. When we went up to pay for our food, I poked my head in the kitchen ad saw that both of the servers, as well as one of the two cooks, were on their phones and were completely oblivious to our presence. I seriously stood at the counter for ten minutes while our server walked by us twice without even saying anything to us. It got pretty annoying. So I guess the final verdict here is that the food is decent for a vegan place, but the staff here seems like it'd be incredibly hit or miss. Like they care anyways, right?

We stopped here during our cross-country move, and the broccoli burger totally made my day. The prospect of driving into Iowa that day seemed less annoying after scarfing it down. Delicious. Ditto on the mushroom burger. And the desserts! Please try the cookies. I have absolutely no reason to ever go back to Columbus, but I might just have to find one now.

I had been here before for brunch on a weekend and was really disappointed because they were out of almost everything. We ended up leaving and going to the dube! Last night, though, I had dinner and had a much better experience. I had the 5 bean soup, crunchy cucumber sandwich and a molasses cookie. Overall both were good, nothing mind-blowingly good but also not awful. And probably a tiny bit healthier than the dube. The menu options are varied and most seem really tasty - it was difficult to make a decision because a lot of options sounded good. That is always a plus. One thing I did notice was that my sandwich and the toast that came with the soup REALLY tasted like margarine. It wasn't too off putting, but I didn't love it. Everything did seem fresh though. The molasses cookie was pretty good - I am not a huge fan of vegan baking because it just doesn't taste the same - but once i got past the initial crunchiness of the outside the inside tasted chewy and delicious. Service was polite and somewhat prompt. I was surprised how long everything took to come out of the kitchen because there weren't many people in the restaurant, but it wasn't unbearable. Overall, a good experience. I'd do it again for a quick soup/sandwich dinner or lunch. I don't know if I'm ready to test the waters on brunch again.

So I'm kinda surprised by all of the negative reviews on whole worlds service. I've been to here quite a few times in the past few years and every time it was great. The last time we were in it was starting to get a bit late for us so my son was tired and in a mood but we needed to eat before our trip back home. So I can only imagine the wait staff were not terribly happy to see us walk in, if I was a waitress I know I wouldn't have been. However if they were unhappy about it you would've never known. Our waitress was so nice and even brought over some kids books for my son to look at and some cut up fruit and veggies for him to snack on while they made our meal. Our food came fast and was super tasty as always. We also grabbed some cookies on the way out and they were oh oh so yummy. We had a chocolate spicy cookie that was breath taking! I wish whole world was in Cincinnati because I like it a thousand more times than melt.

The food here is made fresh, using quality ingredients. I believe they bake all of their breads daily in the back. They have a small display case full of cookies, brownies and the like if you prefer something sweet on-the-go. I've tried several of their sandwiches and soups and they are always delicious and filling. My only problem with this place is that the staff has been slow and borderline rude every time I've visited. Two of the four times I've been there it's taken the server about ten minutes to greet us, and another several to return with our drinks. If you're in a hurry, or want to eat out where you'll enjoy friendly service, I suggest going somewhere else. If you can tolerate apathetic servers, you'll enjoy the vegetarian options.

This place is waaayyy overrated. How does this place have four stars? Come'on, three and a half at best. Order: 2 sodas = $2/each Hummus Platter = $6.50 9" Greek Spinach Pizza = $11 InfamousBroccoli Burger = $6.50 The pizza "crust" was just bread, don't expect doughy, baked, crispy goodness that you would anticipate from anywhere else. It was just...bread. I expected real freshness from the vegetables or some kind of punch from a sauce or herb or seeds or SOMETHING!! Instead it looked like something I could have made in my kitchen. It was sloppy with olive oil to mask the lack of flavor. I think next time I'm looking for a veggie pizza with flavor I'll be going to HoundDogs. Hummus was decent. But you can get better and cheaper in the store. The Broccoli Burger was okay, the price was reasonable. However, it tasted like broccoli and cheddar soup, well if you watered it down and put it into burger form. Bun wasn't bad, but I guess I expected that sucker to have been toasted. Instead it was more like an untoasted, lightly warm, bun. I sat there wishing I had gone and tried Northstar's Black Bean Burger instead. I felt like I was at one of my hippie friend's homes in SF, where they just threw something together for me. Except my friends wouldn't have dared charged me $30 to put that together and in the end I would have been grateful. Oh and it took 30mins for our meal to come out. Pretty slow.

Ah, Whole World.... one of my favorites! I would give it 5 stars, from a personal standpoint, but the lack of space and the slow service compel me to give four instead. The food is wonderful - soups, sandwiches, daily specials...you really can't go wrong. Now that I don't live within walking distance, I tend to come most often for Sunday brunch; the vegan "big breakfast" is quite possibly the most happiness-inducing meal ever created. The scrambled tofu is perfectly spiced and a healthy shade of yellow from turmeric, the vegetable hash is incredible - full of vegetables and spices and wholesomeness, the vegan "sausage" patties are heaven with a hefty dose of sage, and the black bread toast and fruit are the perfect accompaniments. Seriously, I adore this meal! There are other options with the breakfast; I think you can choose potatoes instead of hash, and different breads, but I described what I eat. The decor is quirky and cozy - fresh flowers on the tables, rotating artwork on the walls, and the adorable mural above the counter. Sometimes I wish this place was bigger, but it is what it is, and there is a lot to be said for smallness done well. Service isn't fast or particularly attentive, but it tends to be friendly and entertaining. We went for Easter Brunch this year, and all the staff were wearing those cheap Easter bonnets with ribbons and flowers.

Whole World boasts that it's Colmbus' first vegetarian restaurant from back in 1978. Even today it's a good option to go for vegetarian & vegan items and I've been happy with a number of sandwiches and soups there. Worth noting is that they make their own bread. What boosts it to four stars are the desserts, like the pecan chocolate chip and lemon bars. Just remember that it's Mondays when they close.

I'm in love with vegetarian restaurants. They make my life so easy! When I went to Whole World, I was in love with the crazy mural and the food. I had "Debs on Black," which is basically a veggie sandwich on black bread. It was great! I've also had their broccoli burger at Comfest, which is fantastic. I see a lot of people say that they had to wait awhile for their food, but I didn't have that problem. Great food, great place!

I have come to this place a few times. The food is always decent, but I continuously have mediocre service from the staff. One time I was there and I asked what the specials were, and the young lady pointed to the board with tiny words across the room. Instead of being able to tell me what they had, I had to go and read the board. I felt sort of jipped because it was clear the waitress was just being lazy. She could have just said the main dish and then if I was interested I would ask more detail perhaps. It wasn't busy at that time either. The bakery part of this restaurant is great, food could use some more flavor and the wait staff could be a lot more engaging and friendly. I had the eggplant meatball sandwich and it was pretty dry, could have used extra sauce or something added to make it just right. I also called once to ask for a specific person that works there to be put on hold by Katy for nearly 10 minutes just to be told that the person I requested was not there. I actually hung up and called back and she said she just got "busy". It was not very considerate as it would have taken just 20 seconds to tell me that the person was not there in the first place and save a customer from being on hold that long for no reason! I am pretty disappointed with the service, needless to say.

Yum. In terms of vegetarian restaurant options, Whole World does not disappoint. It's nothing fancy, but it's consistent and has a great bakery selection to boot. Thank God it's back after the fire--I was ready for my Whole World fix!

So, I frequently drive through Columbus on random road trips to wherever roads may take me. I discovered Whole World a few months ago when I actually had a meeting in Columbus, and was staying for a few days. I, personally, get very excited when a restaurant even knows what a vegan IS let alone have the vegan-friendly labels on things! The first time I went was for Brunch. Go.for.the.brunch.on.Sundays. When I was little I used to go to this place called "The Depot" in Sandusky (grungy smokey place) and order "The Sunday Special" long after it was taken off of the menu (Regular Americanish breakfast: Home fries, bacon or sausage, eggs, toast). They have a VEGAN Sunday special here! I, quite literally, called my Dad when I left to tell him. The blueberry pancakes are really good, too. Mmm. However, their lunch left a little to be desired. We were aiming for brunch but missed it by about an hour on our way back from Louisville. I've only had the Cauliflower burger and the Tofu-sloppy-joes, but they both left a little to be desired. Not bad, but I didn't call my Dad after that one. The "sloppy joes" were more like tofu ricotta, and the (Maybe it was a broccoli burger...) was a little mushy. DESSERT: I've had the Forest Bar and the Banana Chocolate walnut somethingelse cookie. Both are really really good. If I had to pick, it'd hands down be the Forest bar. Tangy cherries, chocolate chunks, all that other stuff. I like the place, though. They play good music and have a nice, intimate atmosphere. They're not hugely talky, but they get the job done. There is also a great thrift store a few doors down called "Rag-o-Rama". Cool place. .....go for the brunch. (Get there before 2 on Sunday)

I love this vegetarian restaurant in Clintonville! So many things that I wanted to try. I had the B(tofu)LT. That was the first time I had veganiase! It was perfect for a Sunday lunch. We also got the black bean nachos for an appetizer. The nachos could have been a little more fresher though. I loved the vibe, but we did have to wait awhile for our food. I will definitely be back sometime!

As a bonnie wee youth, I would eat Pizza from this place and marvel at the taste. Flash forward about 19 years, and I'm eating vegetarian food from this same place, served by some of the hottest ladies in the land. Saying that I'm biased would be an understatement. The service is laid back, but the waitresses are universally adorable which makes up for it. If you are in a rush, this is not the place for you. ever. This is the veggie restaurant where I take all my friends. Why? Good grilled cheese sandwiches, and pizza. You have to love the Whole Wheat Crust option. I know I do. I recommend the Tofu Joe on Black bread, or the big fresh Garden salad with the Asian Sesame Dressing. Bombay Burger. Tofuno Sandwiches. Black Beans and Cornbread( dear batman, yes!) Also, the Peanut butter chocolate chip cookies are the kind of thing I dream about finding.

My daughter has been a vegetarian for over 10 years, and she is used to choosing a few side dishes and calling it a meal we we have the occasional meal out. I decided to go a different route when she was home for winter break, so we ventured out to Whole Foods Natural Restaraunt. The place was much smaller than I envisioned, and seating was a bit cramped. My daughter and I are tall, but not freakishly so, yet our knees bumped in the tiny booths. We moved to a table where the leg room was more ample. We shared a hummus platter. The hummus was flavorful with fresh lemom and garlic. Quite good, and served with cherry tomatoes, cucumber and carrot slices and the most the most out of this world pita bread. Warm, soft, and oh so good! We then shared a broccoli burger. The patty had an interesting smushy consistancy but tasted oh so good! I definately recommend this if love broccoli. We also shared a cheese pizza topped with guacamole, onions, tomatoes, and alfalfa sprouts. By the time it came out I was pretty stuffed from our other fare, but did manage to down one slice. My only criticism was that the alfalfa sprouts were a bit overpowering. Our check came to $27 dollars, we left happy, and my daughter friended me on facebook that evening. I know she will be back whenever she is in Columbus, and I will happily accompany her when asked.

It could have been a poor choice on my part or it could also be due to the fact that I had discovered Northstar Cafe's Veggie Burger prior to Whole World Restaurant's Broccoli Burger, but I found my broccoli burger to be a little on the bland side. I also found it to be a little pricey, when you can get an equivalent of two of those burgers for $2 more at Northstar. Minor gripe aside, the atmosphere was okay, certainly not great. As mentioned by earlier reviewers, this place is small with about 4 booths and 5 or so tables. Limited parking and the long wait time are both downfalls to WWR. Being the first customer there, I was surprised at the 15 minute wait for my burger. However, the artworks strewn around WWR are aesthetically pleasing, and I found myself staring at them as I was killing some wait time. I lack the wit to express the awesomeness of the seasons (I've come to conclude) mural painted by Linda Apple that can be found above the cash register. Another option is to ogle the tantalizing desserts in the bakery's display case. I couldn't resist bringing home an Almond Joy Brownie, and I'm glad I did. Right amount of sweetness, richness, and chocolatiness. Oh-so-addictive! It's a huge brownie bar so I would suggest sharing it with someone.

Whole World is an unassuming little vegetarian/vegan cafe in Clintonville. The dining area is pretty small, and it's appropriately warm and cozy. Whole World is the perfect place for a lazy Sunday brunch. Just make sure you are there before 2 PM, because they switch to their lunch menu after 2. Although I've only had items from their brunch menu (the omelets and quiche -yum!) I would imagine that the rest of their menu is just as delicious as their brunch. Oh - and their vegan molasses cookie are to die for! I can't wait to go back.

god this place is as good as i remember if not better. they were so ahead of their time it's unbelievable. everything here is really fresh and healthy (save their baked goods, although even those have carob/vegan options too). i highly recommend the debs on black sandwich. it involves vegetables i could hypothetically put together on bread at home myself, but they do it so much better--sprouts, dark rye, mustard, avocado, tomato, zucchini--so yummy! their soup is always good (comes with bread beware if you are ordering something else). their bread is pretty good considering i don't usually eat bread. salad is very good. very fresh. homemade dressing--ranch is to die for. the place is small and quaint. dress warmly as it can be drafty in the winter as every table is by the door. the mural on the wall is worth the trip and the people watching here is never boring.

Stopped for brunch yesterday while visiting my brother and was very satisfied, and very full when I left. All vegetarian with lots of vegan stuff, and I thought the service was fine. Surely not someplace to go if you're in a hurry, but my water and coffee were both refilled and the server was pleasant albeit a bit goofy and eccentric (which if fine by me for brunch at an all veggie place). Small, cute, and crunchy, you should definitely stop by for some baked goods or a slow meal. The veggie hash really is good, it's always nice to have some more veggies with breakfast.

Although I will not contest the quality of food at Whole World, I don't think I've ever had worse service. I worked near the restaurant for quite a while, and tried on several occasions to go there on an hour long lunch break. Never got any food. Most times I would go sit in there and wait for a server to come over, and after 20 minutes or so, I would leave. This is not an over-crowding issue. Sometimes there would only be one other table filled. Since I have gone to the counter to get cookies and coffee, and they were both very good, I am giving two stars.

I went in here after a Chi Kung workshop a few years ago (isn't that perfect?) and consumed one of the most wholesome meals i can remember. The menu is an expression of someone's passion for fortifying food made from varied and high quality ingredients. It's been a while since i've gone there, but plan to go back soon to see what Whole World has been up to.

In the small constellation of Columbus's "natural/organic/veggie" restaurants, Whole World is probably made most distinctive by its casual, homey atmosphere. The cozy restaurant only has about 8 or 10 tables/booths, which can sometimes be insufficient for the Clintonville crowd anxious to get their hands on veggie comfort food. The menu itself is fairly unremarkable but essentially satisfying. Most menu items come with dairy as a default (usually cheese), but most of them can be made vegan with a substitution or two. The menu is mostly sandwiches, both hot and cold, including their famous broccoli burger (yum) and things like veggie croissants and tofu sloppy joe. Their sandwiches are complimented by a selection of salads and several daily soups served with toast, but they also offer full-sized pizzas with a variety of toppings (including soy cheese, for a significant surcharge). Daily specials fill the "meat-like entree" niche, with things like "BBQ tofu burger" and "seitan shepherd's pie." Their weekend brunch is also very good, featuring items like pancakes and french toast, eggs lots of ways, tofu scramble, veggie biscuits and gravy, and a very good impression of sausage patties. Their vegetable hash (potatoes, broccoli, corn, carrots, some other stuff) is a very yummy side dish. There is also a really lovely array of baked sweets in the display counter for dessert, about half of which are vegan (and are labeled as such). Overall, a satisfying place to visit, even if the food isn't so much remarkable as it is comforting.

We had a great dinner at Whole World last week. The portions are ample, the prices are reasonable, and the food is tasty. Vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike will find something to enjoy here. We'll be back!

The food is awesome. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan this is the place to go. I've come here with friends and lovers that are not vegetarians and they've enjoyed the cuisine as well. The service is a bit slow but if you're not in a hurry, just come hang out, bring a book! They have great pizza, but it takes awhile to bake so it's best to call ahead. Also they have amazing desserts.

If you like vegetarian or vegan food definitely come here for a casual meal. Lots of vegan meal choices and plenty of vegan baked goods too. I ate here 2 or 3 times the last week I was in Columbus on business. Service was relaxed but very friendly. Relaxed does not equal bad, at least not for me. Maybe because I'm relaxed?
