Diabetics at Village Inn

Village Inn is a tough place for diabetics, and you must be extra cautious while ordering food at the Village Inn, especially if you're a diabetic. The food items low in sodium are high in sugar or cholesterol at Village Inn which makes it difficult for diabetics to choose the right food at the diner.

Foods to Avoid at Village Inn for Diabetics

Village Inn offers very few items edible for diabetics without any threat. You can avoid sandwiches and burgers at Village Inn and try the light breakfast items on the menu. You must also skip the shakes as well as other juices from the beverage menu. Almost all the dinner items on the menu are high in sodium except Grilled Tilapia and 6 oz. Top Sirloin & Toast. Avoid Soup bowls and opt for cups instead at Village Inn.

No handicapped Parking at 6pm? Loved the salad, but No pepper? What kind of establishment can call itself a restaurant without fresh pepper? Great croutons and home made dressing begin to make up for that situation. But, the portions are wasteful--too many breadsticks. If we need more, we can ask. As for the staff--watched Four staff standing around the carry out station, gossiping. But, there is so much copper and brass in this place they have created a Faraday cage so that your Phone doesn't work and no wifi to compensate! On the whole, the food is good but they have so many minuses...

My husband and I just moved to Worthington and had been wanting to try Villa Nova. What a disappointment. The food was absolutely awful. I ordered the fettuccini alfredo and my husband chicken parmigiana. The alfredo was like paste and tasteless. The chicken for the chicken parmigiana tasted as if it was a frozen chicken patty, fried and served onto of bland spaghetti. The parking lot is always packed and we can not figure out for the life of us WHY. This was absolutely the worst food I have ever had at a restaurant.

Nothing fancy but it's easy to love coming here. The wait staff rarely turns over and the service is great. Still family owned and they make their own meatballs and sausage. Give it a try and you'll be very happy.

Ran across this place several years ago. Introduced to restaurant by business associates. It has become a staple for our family. We try to go every couple of months with whole family. My wife and I go as often as we can. We get pepperoni and bacon pizza every time. I keep asking the family to try something else. They keep refusing, guess that's as good a recommendation as it gets. I have had other pasta dishes and they were all good. We have taken many other couples there and all like the food.

A great place to visit with your family, large or small. The prices are reasonable and the service was friendly and attentive. The parking and restaurant seemed a little tight. I visited a few times and it always seemed busy. We have yet to try anything other than the pizza so my review may not be the one for you. The pizza is crispy throughout, even the middle pieces. That is important for me! The sausage is crumbly and not in chunks, i enjoyed that. The pepperoni was fabulous, they curl up, sign of yummy! The sauce was savory not too sweet. Decent beers on tap and wine selection to compliment. Will keep coming back and will try something new.

Horrid food, incompetent service. This experience crystallizes my conclusion that there are atleast 2 distinct group of restaurant goers. There are those who love and those who hate the same place. So you may want to check out several reviews from the same person to see if your taste profile matches theirs. THE FOOD Mediocre to plain awful. The stromboli was huge but insipid, the individual ingredients seemed bottom shelf [I'll discuss the incompetence part later]. The Veal Parm was fairly overdone and way too much parm. The tomato sauce was plain bland. The seafood fettuchini and spaghetti carbonari was just as awful as everything else. The wedding soup was not all bad, a bit too salty...and oh, and the bread basket was worse than Olive Garden [if that is possible]. THE ATMOSPHERE The place reeks of parm, but otherwise cheesy but kitschy decor. THE SERVICE SO I give very explicit instructions that I want no cheese other than mozzarella in my stromboli, especially no parm. When I begin to eat, I realize the crust is brushed with a seasoning that is mainly guess what - PARM. I finally manage to beg the waitresses attention and while containing my frustration inform her of the issue. She asks me "Are you sure? I think it is just oregano"!!!! WTF, I'm not sure which part of that sentence was more infuriating. I'm not sure, but I think there was an apology somewhere, but sure didn't feel like it.

I have always loved Italian Everything- art, food, music, wine, culture- so I am surprised it took me this long to try Villa Nova. We drive past it frequently- I think it's low profile windowless building caused me to overlook it. What a mistake. We dined here last night, no reservation, and the polite host told us to expect a 15 minute wait. We wandered over to the bar and got a cocktail and then sat back to people watch. My first impression was that this was one of the friendliest bars I'd ever been to. Multiple patrons offered us seats at the bar, started friendly conversation, and offered helpful information about what seems to be the best happy hour in the city (free subs, pizza, wings, popcorn, and more with great prices on beer and cocktails). One gentleman said to me "This is like the Cheers between Columbus and Worthington." Truly, everyone did seem to know everyone else's name. After a quick 15 minutes or so, our table was ready. My husband and I could not get over how cheap everything was. The kids' menu has three dollar meals on it! There are a lot of options, both "traditional" Italian foods and non (bacon cheese potato skins, that sort of thing) so you really shouldn't have trouble feeding most people here. My husband got the chicken parm, his go to order at Italian or even vaguely Italian establishments. I got a steak, which came with soup or salad, and steamed veggies, rice, or french fries. I chose the steamed veggies. Guys, this steak was 8 ounces and cost around 13 dollars, and it was cooked PERFECTLY. It was tender, juicy, visually appealing- it was something I would expect to pay much more for usually. My husband cleaned his plate and had no leftovers, though he did say the red sauce on the pasta wasn't his favorite (he tends to prefer very sweet sauces, this one was on the thin side and had a stronger tomato taste). Our bill was somewhere around 36 dollars- and 20% of that was alcohol. So it's a very reasonably priced menu. We have already made plans to go back. I am so happy to have finally woken up to this gem of a restaurant.

Really great dining experience here. Very cozy and busy on a Sunday around 1:00. We had reservations and were seated promptly. As soon as you walk in there is an overwhelmingly awesome aroma of pasta sauce. Our party mostly ordered pizzas and salads and one had steak. Long wait for our food and a very busy waitress led to some waiting- they could have used some more staff, it was busy and they had a party of at least twenty while we were there. The pizza is delicious- thin, crispy, and generous toppings. All other food coming out looked delicious also. They have a huge menu with lots of options, even beyond Italian traditions. We will certainly be back.

We came here several years ago for the great happy hour and coldest beer in coilumbus not to mention some pretty damn good food, but come back weekly because we have developed some really good friendships and people we see at the bar. Thanks you Nova, you've been a good addition to our life.

Villa Nova is a locally owned family business that has been around since 1978. It is quite a popular restaurant and bar. So, you are likely to going to have a wait at peak meal times. Drop in and they'll put your name on a list, hand you a paging device then step over to the separate bar area to imbibe in some adult beverages. The wait is not too unreasonable, maybe 30 minutes. The décor on the walls is a mixture of pictures and collectibles of copper pots, license plates and gauges. The decorations have been around for quite a while and might even use a good dusting. The bar has its own separate area that is usually standing room only during peak times. They do serve meals at the bar, if you don't want to wait for a table, and has TV's for watching the news or a game. Restaurant seating is separate from the bar area, but can still be quite noisy. It's good for groups and families. Seating can be quite tight, however, as they try to make the most of the available space. Their menu has a wide sampling of traditional Italian faire, (i.e. soups, subs, pizza's, pasta dishes and main entree's). I recommend checking out their specials of the day. Overall, their food is "okay". It's good comfort food. Portions are quite filling. Side salads are out of a bag with some croutons tossed on top. Soups are more broth as opposed to being hearty. Garlic sticks are out of a bag and not warmed. Usually ample sauce and cheese on their pasta dishes. Their pizza's usually have a good amount of toppings on them. Menu prices are competitive and quite reasonable. The service on the restaurant side is rather hit or miss. They are often efficient and fast, but too many times I leave the restaurant feeling like the wait staff simply just does not want to be there. That carries over to how welcome I feel as a customer when I walk out the door. A typical experience has been that when they bring out your salad they will just "drop" them right in front of you. All the wait staff are not like this, but my experiences are the staff are more like this than not. It can be a challenge to get your server's attention when you need him or her and they are not always responsive for keeping your drinks full. Villa Nova is quite a local popular place. Their menu is mostly Italian, reasonably priced and good place to take the family or hang with a group. Service could be more personable and attentive, but is efficient. I likely will return again when out with friends as I have been here a number of times over the years, but there are so many other good Italian restaurant options available that I likely will go for more of my own first choices.

This place reminds me of an old school Italian restaurant where you see all the older folks eating meatballs and sipping wine around 5:00 for dinner. I like everything about this place except how long you have to wait to get a table. This place is a hit in the neighborhood and no matter what night you go, it takes quite some time to be seated unless you go around 9:00. The food is really good. There's nothing special about it, just good. They give you salad and breadsticks before dinner so by the time you eat your meal, you're stuffed! I've had their pizza and chicken parm the most and never have a complaint. Just plan ahead on waiting for a seat and you'll be happy you did!

Villa Nova is an old Italian restaurant and has been in business at this location for many years. The decor is sort of kitschy with lots of old copper kettles and old pressure gauges lining the walls. At dinner time, there is almost always a wait for a table - regardless of day of the week but especially true on weekends. It's much easier to get a table at lunch time. I've been here both for lunch and dinner (several times for dinner) and the place is always busy. The menu is a typical Italian menu with lots of pasta options plus a dinner menu that includes steaks, chicken and seafood "dinners". They also have a wide selection of sandwiches and an excellent pizza selection. My personal favorites are the lasagna, the rigatoni and chicken parmigiana. Dinner companions have praised the eggplant parmigiana, the gnocchi and the tortellini. Service is always good, the atmosphere is that of an "old Italian restaurant" and the food is great.

I love this place. I have fond childhood memories of eating here as a kid and I still love it as an adult. My kids also really love Villa Nova. Villa Nova offers old school, Americanized Italian dishes. I've never had a bad experience with anything I've ordered here... Pizza, manicotti, fettucine alfredo, house-made sausage, chicken parm, boom boom shrimp... All are delicious. They've also got a great happy hour (i.e., it's dirt cheap!) if you can find a spot at the bar. You can't go wrong here!

  • Matthew S.

I've been here many times, and the food is consistently really good. Honestly, there's nothing spectacular about it, it's just good food. The kind of thing you get a craving for about once a month, and when you finally go, it's just as good as you remembered and hits the spot every single time. They have a really good baked ziti that's not on the menu, but they've never not had it when we've asked the server. My favorite is the veal parm. Expect to wait to get a table though. It's always packed!

I've been eating here since I was a kid. Great family owned restaurant that hasn't changed in 30 years. One of my favorites. Very reasonable prices and great food. My favorite is the shrimp scampi special. Yum. This is not fancy but it is very kid friendly and always good.

  • Amber S.

I've been here several times to pick up pizza or eat in. The bar area is said to have a good happy hour price on food and drinks. The daily specials are posted on the board when you enter. I don't recall any of the wait staff mentioning any of the specials during dinner hours but they have been mentioned when I've been there for lunch. On a busy night it can be awkward to get a pizza for carryout. The pickup area is behind the entrance and you need to dodge wait staff in the aisle. My usual order is wedding soup and pizza. The soup is always hot and never salty. The pizza has a thin crust and is cut into the squares so people can get corners or middles.

Villa Nova is like a blast from the past. I get this nostalgia vibe like it was a place your Grandparents probably went to grab some Italian grub and chew the fat with friends, or the owner. The place is ecliptic and almost dive worthy... The decor lets itself be known with it's kitschy collection of what has to be over 100 copper kettles, all shapes and sizes. A collection of Pressure gauges, and bad Italian restaurant knick-knacks litter about the walls. It's a curious collection to experience at least once.. I suppose. The lighting is on the darker side, which will have you rubbing your eyes feeling as if you were a bear awakening from a long hibernation once you open the front doors as the bright light of the outside world pours in. The food in my opinion was A-OK. Going back to the notion that this place is OLD and reminiscent of your grandparents... then you'll get what I'm saying. Just picture the 1950's-60's and people looking for what they thought was "Italian Food", and Villa Nova fits the dish perfectly. It's nothing new, nothing exciting, nothing really fresh, or trend setting. The pizza is worth a mention. I really enjoyed it. I ordered just a plain Cheese pizza, but could see where adding meatball and other toppings could make it a hit. It's a nice crispy Ohio square cut pie. Right up my alley, and Villa Nova makes it well. Meatballs are the big winners here. I saw so many of those traveling past my table that I was pretty disappointed I did not order one for myself. Perhaps in a future trip. Prices here were high in my opinion for the quality of food with each small dish averaging around $7 and going upwards from there. So... to Sum up Villa Nova... think no frivolous and non changing, and that's basically what you'll get. Is is the best Italian Columbus can offer? Heck, no, but it's a nice place for families and groups to get together and have some American Italian food and support the small Mom and Pop's instead of the Olive Garden's and Bucca Di Beppo's. Taste wise.. it's slightly above those, but nothing to write home about. Worth a try. You decide.

  • Phil A.

Mixed. Pizza crust was nice and thin, sauce was not too heavy, sausage full of flavor. Salads were nothing worth writing home about--mostly iceberg. Before ordering, I asked the waiter if the gnocchi was made in-house. I guess he didn't realize that I was asking if it was homemade (what else would I mean, right?). It definitely was pasta out of a package, not freshly made. Homemade gnocchi is SO much better, but I guess I got what I paid for. I would say that this restaurant was the best of Italian-American cuisine from about 50 years ago. We've come a long way, people. Time to let this tired remnant go and look at some REAL Italian cuisine.

Restaurant was busy when I went, but the food was excellent! I got the pasta sampler dish which is a little of everything and all of it was very good! The ravioli was especially good! Definitely a good place to grab some dinner if you're not looking to break the bank. About the same price as going to an Olive Garden or something of that nature.

Oh how I love you, Villa Nova. Granted I've never had the pleasure to eat in the dining room, only the very odd and entertaining bar area. First off, beers are HUMONGOUS and very cold. They have a decent amount of drafts, and they're always priced well. The bartenders look like they've been working there for quite some time, little rough... But that's the way I like 'em! They're great at what they do. There's always free popcorn in the machine, and certain days they have pans of free pizza and wings next to the machine on warmers. Onto the food... 99.9% of the time, I get the pizza. It's a very thin crackery crust and they load, I mean load the toppings. It's fantastic. On the rare occasion I haven't gotten the pizza, I had the italian sub which was great and the house salad, which is basic but their house italian is really good. So far, I have nothing bad to report. Can't beat the ambiance of the crazies in the bar or the wall decor. You will meet some of the biggest characters there for sure.

This seems like a very nice mom & pop traditional Italian place. The food is very traditional, definitely comfort food. I've tried the gnocchi and the manicotti and I would get them again for sure! Lots of cheese and the bread sticks make the meal. The house salad isn't too fancy either but its yummy! What a fun place to visit for a simple meal.

If you're looking for old school, American-Italian food, this place does a pretty good job. I had a very standard side salad with tasty homemade dressing, and pasta with red sauce and spicy Italian sausage. I'd get it all again! For dessert, however, I had the bread pudding, of which I could only eat two bites. It tasted like soupy French toast. That was the only disappointment of the night. This place was very busy, and there seem to be a lot of regulars at the bar, which is usually a good sign. If you're not looking for high-end Italian, and you want a good value, check out this place.

I liked this place. I haven't been to an Italian restaurant in a long time and my friend suggested it so Villa Nova it was. I liked that they made their own sauces, salad dressings (most) and soups....I was disappointed that they didn't make their own pasta or bread. I had the gnocchi and asked if they could use a sauce that was on the special menu instead of the normal tomato sauce. While looking at the menu, I was perusing the yelp reviews and saw one (was it you Tammy R.?) that said the sauce was too heavy...I didn't want that so I asked for the creamy tomato with red pepper sauce, this also had mushroom and onions, it was delicious. The gnocchi was fine, a little to heavy, I think for gnocchi to be good it has to be fresh made, I've never liked it all that much when it's not. The one thing I didn't like was there was cheese melted on top, I'm not one that's much for a big mess of cheese on my pasta, a little is fine but this was overkill, to me it just takes away from the meal not enhances it. OH...this dish also had two big Killer meatballs, those were great. And speaking of big...the portions are huge, I have enough left over for two more meals. I also had the house red wine...$ 4.50 for a glass and it was dry and full flavored and yummy just like I like my wine!

So... I came here specifically because it had some pretty good reviews, but I left really not impressed at all. Went with my bf, and the fact that there was a decent wait when we got there made me feel this place was going to live up to the hype. First I had the cheeseburger soup. I could've had the wedding soup, but I'd never heard of cheeseburger soup (especially not at an Italian restaurant) but it sounded so intriguing I couldn't help myself. It was OK. I wouldn't order it again. But I said had high hopes for the food... I figured the cheeseburger thing would be a gamble anyway. Then our food came. I had been deciding between a few things that sounded good and went with the homemade sausage and fettuccine alfredo at the waitress' suggestion. I love sausage, but I was not impressed at theirs. Also, the alfredo sauce tasted a bit... off. Hard to say, but it wasn't like any other alfredo I'd had before. My bf had a pizza of some sort and said it was really good. He pointed out that a lot of people around us were having pizza. So I dunno, maybe I would've found the experience more amazing if I'd done that too. Although I did see good reviews here of the pasta, so who knows. I doubt I'll be going back to try again though. The only reason I even give it as high as a 3 is because the bf really enjoyed his food.

This place has great pizza and Alfredo sauce. If you go on Tuesdays it is $11 dollar pizza night. Atmosphere is cool, place is usually crowded though. If you love enormous collections of tea kettles then you'll love this place (you'll see). Service is great too.

what an absolutely fantastic meal we had tonight! i had the pasta sampler and the roommate had the venetian sampler. we each ordered a soup with our meal, i the wedding soup and he the stuffed green pepper soup. both are to die for! i have had their wedding soup before, but never the green pepper soup...mmm...it tasted like chili. too bad the soup bowls aren't bigger! the best part of our meal though was max, out waiter. MAN, does he deserve a raise. probably the best server i have had at any restaurant in years! couldn't forget an order if he tried, never let our glasses go empty [or the breadstick bowl!], and a total cutie pie! the restaurant was packed, but somehow he managed to make sure all of his tables were happy, AND he hustled around with smile. hats off to you, max, and thank you.

The only bad thing I will say about Villa Nova is they typically have a long wait, but their food and service is well worth it. Been there twice, loved their pastas and salads, good serving sizes. They're great with large groups and their decor is super unique (walls covered in tin kettles and barometers, funky lamps and a lively atmosphere). Ordered a carafe of wine, which was enough for three glasses each between my boyfriend and I. Reasonable prices and a friendly waitress. Plan to return soon!

Liter. Of beer. Yes. A liter. Of cheap, domestic swill. For you. For cheap. It's my first experience, and my ex-brother-in-law gave me a little tour of the place, and it was such a bizarre place. Brass utensils on the walls. Tons of gauges. A packed bar next to a packed dining room. The place *looks* like a dive. I half expected to find a back room with a bunch of Italians plotting their takeover of the city. It's just got that deep mob vibe. Maybe that's why I like it. I've only eaten here once - I ordered a small pizza at the bar. My friends ordered pizza as well-and it was cheap, and delicious. I mean, the kind of cheap and easy pizza that goes great with a LITER OF CHEAP BEER. I want more excuses to come back.

So we wanted to try this place because it had gnocchi, and I was in the mood for italian. This places is VERY sauce heavy. But the food just wasn't good. Frozen ravioli's, mini hot dog buns for breadsticks reminded me of the stale bread you feed to ducks, soup tasted canned, not fresh. The gnocchi was the biggest let down. They were more dry then tender and buried in think red sauce that completely drowned out the flavor of the gnocchi. A vodka sauce or a light fresh tomato sauce would have been good, but it was this thick almost pasty pizza sauce, and VERY salty. I would rate it lower but the atmosphere was very inviting, and they had a wonderful collection of copper pots. The second star was the price, it's cheap but you could make everything for much cheaper from the frozen food isle honestly. The third star was because of the service our waiter was nice, prompt and attentive. With all that said though, we probably won't return.

Chicken parmigiana was great! Nice atmosphere. Staff was friendly. Complimentary breadsticks were delicious.

Been coming here since 2000. Really love the food. It's a family kind of place and the prices are really reasonable. The bar attached is kinda of separated so two different types of diners can coexist. My favorite is the pizza. Best in town. Thin crust. If you don't know what you want try, the pasta sampler is your best option. It's not 5 star dining, but it is 5 star go to family kind of place.

Came here for lunch and got a large pepperoni. This place doesn't deliver but it was packed at 1:30. The pepperoni had a good flavor to them, the sauce had a special taste to it, and the dough tasted fresh. It was one of the best pizza places in Columbus and it was only $13.50. I took the pizza to go in and I'm not sure if I'd want to dine in because everyone there looked like they were in their 70s and 80s.

This place is great! I love the decor. The wait staff was fantastic. The service was good. We went there for lunch. We ordered 2 side salads, garlic cheese bread and a pizza. We had thin crust cut in a pie and it was delicious. We will defitinely be back!!! THANK YOU!!!

Don't make the same mistake I have made for years, and neglect the great pizza VN has to offer! This is a first rate thin crust pie, and now one of my favorites in the city. Try the deluxe with all the thin-sliced goodies!

This place is a classic in Worthington. It's not much to look at from the outside, inside probably could use some updating & it's a bit overwhelming with all the nic-nacs. The food is good, nothing spectacular, good pizza, crispy thinner crust. The new pan crust is super good. Pastas are ok, fettuccini Alfredo w/chicken really has no flavor, but still good. Now, the breadsticks & their homemade Ranch are delectable! I always buy a "soup" pint of ranch to go, this is my comfort food. Service is decent, I never feel rushed & most servers have a good sense of humor. Place can be a bit loud so hopefully you don't get a soft spoken server. Unless you go late evening 8-9ish, the place seems to always be packed. They even had to expand their parking lot, which I still have to park on the side street sometimes. I recommend trying this place. This is my go-to place when in need of good comfort food at a reasonable price.

I 2nd Heather's review. Villa Nova is a great place to go with a group. It's a social and party atmosphere with positive vibes. Their Deluxe Pizza is one of the best. If you are looking for a quiet spot to eat, don't go there before 9:00pm. The decor keeps your eye busy if you are dining alone. It's a popular neighborhood place that's always happy!

Nice local Italian restaurant which is family owned and suitable for good, medium priced food. It is what it is so do not expect high quality, genuine Italian food. Before the meal, I did like the rolls but felt the salad was non descript although the dressing was very good. I hesitated to get the chicken parm when the server told me is was made with chicken tenders. I did so and found the dish very tasty and to my satisfaction not deeply fried and greasy. The pasta was just okay, did not have a home made taste and was luke warm. My server was friendly and did check in to see how I was enjoying the meal.

My friends and I love this place! Any of the pasta dishes are great, but the pizza is mouthwatering! So much cheese and sauce...just the way it should be! If you're eating in, the atmosphere is a little old-timey, stereotypical Italian, red and white, with copper trinkets scattered on the walls...but there's something oddly comforting about it all! It's like your at Nana's house for a family reunion and everyone is eating together!

This. Place. ROCKS. The food is awesome and quick and affordable. Sunday night they have a great spaghetti dinner with bread, salad, main course and dessert. Oh. And the BEER. It comes by the liter. You read that right. LITER. Ice cold and delicious. Seating can be rough at dinner time on weekends, but I've never had a wait so long I considered leaving.

Villa Nova has been a staple in the Clintonville area for a while. There is typically always a wait for this place, so if you have a big party, make sure you make a reservation. Whoever decided to install the new parking lot deserves mad props, cause parking at this place used to be horrible. If you are into bronze tea pots then you are visiting the right place. The back room of the restaurant has a huge collection of various sizes of bronze tea pots. I feel bad for the person that has to shine those things. The food is always good. I enjoy the pizza and spaghetti, especially with meatballs. There is also a large bar attached to the other side of the place, but I've never visited it.

Upon entering Villa Nova, you have a serious decision to make. The door to the right leads into the bar. The door on the left takes you into the restaurant. I suppose there's really no suspense here. We all know which door I took. The Villa Nova decor alone is worth a visit. On one wall you have a gazillion pressure gauges. On another wall you have old posters with a mix of William "Buffalo Bill" Cody, Gene Autry and Frank Sinatra - not exactly the rat pack or the old west, just a hodge podge. Toss in some license plates and Spuds McKenzie, and you get the picture. The bar appeared to be inhabited by nothing but regulars. Villa Nova's tap beers come in two sizes: the 12 oz and the aquarium (good value on the latter). Okay, so we're here for the pizza. VN serves up your traditional Ohio, edge-to-edge pie. The peps come out nicely curled and are very flavorful with a little kick. The shrooms were cut a little thick for my taste (not sure they were fresh). The crust was nice and crisp without being too crackery. The sauce had a nice zing to it. All in all, while Ohio-style pizza is not my favorite, Villa Nova makes a pretty darn good one. While not technically on the menu, I also obtained our traditional side of meatballs ($1.50 a pop). Damn those were good! The sauce was truly robust - nice and thick with awesome herbiness and a slight sweet note on the finish. The meatballs themselves were also nicely herbed and not too dense. So, I'll go a solid three and a half stars on the pizza with the meatballs and ambiance pushing this to a definite four star experience.

Great mom and pop type hole-in-the-wall Italian place. I love central Ohio thin crust party cut pizza and this is one of the places that does it well. The gentleman and I usually split a tossed salad (their's has radishes, yum!) and a 15-inch with pepperoni, mushroom, and another veggie. The crust is delightfully thin and the pepperonis are appropriately cupped up and crispy. The lasagna is solid. Would like to try some of the other pasta dishes, but the pizza is so good that we end up ordering it more often than not.

We love this place. Great pizza. Great chicken parm. Cold beer. What more could you want. Friendly wait staff too. Half of it is a bar, half family restaurant. Bar side is strictly a bar. Not sure if you can even order food.

I absolutely LOVE Villa Nova Ristorante! My boyfriend and I had our first date here and I had never eaten here before then. Let me tell you I didn't just fall in love with him. I enjoy this place every time we go and since that first date we have gone often and spend every anniversary there. My favorite dish is the eggplant parmesan. We have also shared pizza and the fried cheese ravioli bites before, everything has been delicious!! We also have experienced the Bar section of the Ristorante and thoroughly enjoyed that as well. The bartender was friendly and the drinks were nice and strong. Also I really love the decor as cluttered as it may seem it gives a lot to look at and I love the homey almost "dive" feel of the place. We are definitely lifetime customers and will continue to come here and bring our family.

Wow. The reviews for Villa Nova are all over the board. And I can understand why. This was our first trip here (we were meeting friends who live nearby) and I came away with mixed emotions. First, this is an old-style family restaurant. If you don't like fairly noisy, large parties with children, you will not like this. The decor is non-existent (no, a large collection of brass teapots is not decor). The tables smallish and the chairs hard. It is dark-ish. "Hole-in-the-wall mom and pop" one reviewer wrote, Yep, that's it. However, at least this past Friday, the food was very, very good. Surprisingly so to someone (me) who can act a bit snobbish occasionally. The salad was boring, truth be told but my wife's soup was excellent. Chicken and pasta soup with chunks of moist meat and excellent broth. Unfortunately, they called it Italian Wedding Soup, which it is not. The waitress said it was their version. That is not acceptable. If it is chicken soup, call it chicken soup. My wife was disappointed. I loved it. I had the home-made spicy sausage in tomato sauce. It was very good. Hearty. It came with a a side of spaghetti ( actually fettuccine) and I asked for herb/garlic sauce. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the sauce was excellent. Very tasty and not at all overpowering. My wife had the eggplant Parmesan. She loves the version at Basi Italia and likes how they crisp the eggplant so it isn't a soggy mess. She asked if they did that here and the waitress replied they did it "kinda" crisp but that the kitchen could do it longer if she liked. She ask for it that way. It came crisp in a very good tomato sauce. She ate every bite. I liked that personalize touch and the unsolicited offer from the waitress. One friend had fried perch, which was very simple and, he said, very good. The other had a small pizza which she loved. All in all the food, on this visit at least, was very, very good and all seemed home-made. And the prices were extremely reasonable. We would go back happily based on this visit. It seems you take this place for what it is; a friendly neighborhood family-friendly place of no ambiance but good food and very fair prices. A great alternative to many higher-priced, less satisfying Italian choices. And the waitress was very friendly, very helpful and very efficient. The food and value would give it four stars usually, but the atmosphere keeps it at three. Think a strong three and a half. Note: I read many comments on the fettuccine Alfredo. Why would anyone ever order this anyway?? Except in expert hands this is a hoary cliche of bland nothingness. It is the last thing I would order (which is why the menu's listing of Spaghetti Carbonara as "pasta, bacon, and Alfredo sauce was not only an inaccurate incarnation of Carbonara (which I love) but almost made me gag to read it). C'mon, people, move beyond the fake Italian at Olive Garden.

I love Villa Nova. I could seriously eat here every night of the week. The scene reminds me of someone's basement, but I wouldn't want it any other way. I feel right at home in the dark paneled dining room adorned with a huge collection of gauges and old-timey Italian culinary advertisements. I've actually never been able to get a seat at the bar. We've stood over there for a Happy Hour drink while we waited a few minutes for a table. Everyone always looks like they're having a good time--looks like a lot of regulars. So I always end up ordering the same thing. Manicotti. It's the best. I've tried the stuffed shells, lasagna and raviolis (which oddly come with a side of spaghetti...) and I always come back to the manicotti. Their pizza is delicious as well--the crust is crispy, but not paper thin cracker mid-westy crisp. It is cut in squares, which saddens me, so I've asked for pie cut slices, to which they're accommodating. The fried veggies--particularly the cauliflowers--are a big hit at our table, but what really keeps us coming back is their Ranch salad dressing. BEST RANCH DRESSING IN THE WORLD! Put it on your salad. Drizzle it on your pizza. Dip your breadstick in it. Do shots of it. Go crazy! Thankfully a tossed salad or soup comes with each entree, so I can get my fix of Ranch every time we go. Why the Olive Garden still exists when there are family-owned independent Italian restaurants like Villa Nova serving up way better fare? I'll never know.

Love this place. Once you walk in you have to make a decision. Turn left and it's the restaurant with good food, drink and great service. Turn right and you are in the bar with a huge touch jukebox, popcorn machine, ice cold beer, good food and great bartenders. This is a local mom & pop shop with a ton of regulars. The pizza is outstanding.

I've had issues in the past here with slow waiters, bad food, etc. Management doesnt come over when you have a problem and you should expect them to care when you're upset or give you any type of discount. That said, I really enjoy their pepperoni & extra cheese pizza. The cheese is perfect. It's Columbus style pizza so keept that in mind. Best Columbus pizza I've ever had too. I wont get anything else here anymore since I dont trust it. I had shrimp one time is was so sour and clearly rotten that I complained; which gave us nothing but 'oh alright.' No apology at all, and we asked to see the manager who were were told was too busy to speak to us.

I'm thrilled I work close to this place so I can keep going back for lunch. It's cute hole in the wall Italian place, I have never experienced a wait yet I have only gone in for lunch (haven't experienced the dinner rush) the service is good, food is great and it's inexpensive. I will definitely keep going back when I'm in the area.

This restaurant is within walking distance from my home. We used to eat here often. When our son (the chef) started going out with us and didn't like their alfredo sauce we stopped. He got married and we go where we want and decided to go back. Jim (husband) had pasta nova pasta with a red pepper cream sauce and I had 6 cheese lasagna both were delicious. I forgot my phone so no pictures. I'm thinking we will be back more often.

Not Olive Garden, certainly, but it's also not the kind of Italian food you dream about going into an all-out carb coma for. Don't get me wrong, it's tasty...tasty in the sort of way that Kraft dinner is tasty. It's familiar and cheesy and saucy and doesn't rock the boat. You know what you're getting when you order it. This is not a bad thing. Basically, what I'm trying to say is, if you want Italian food that rocks the boat a bit, surprises you, and lets your tastebuds understand in an instant the passion and creativity of a truly wonderful chef, you won't find it here (though there are other places in Columbus that will provide this). If, however, you want Italian food that you understand and know and reminds you just a bit of the way your not-chef mom would have made it, go here.

I always enjoy my experience at Villa Nova and I haven't had bad service yet which is always a plus. If you love a lot of cheese, this is your place. The salad that comes with the pasta dishes is above average for most restaurants because the lettuce is fresh and the dressings I've tried have been pretty good. It's nothing fancy, but it's better than what I've had at other similar restaurants. The only negative I've encountered here is the alfredo sauce, but maybe it was just the one time I ordered it. It was pretty bland and flavorless which made me sad because I love alfredo sauce. I think the pasta is great as far as that goes and everything I've tried with marinara sauce has been tasty. They also have some great desserts, but I'm usually too full to order one. The inside decor is kind of quirky and I don't quite get it, but I like weird so that works for me! I recommend this place if you're looking for some mid-range priced Italian food that's of decent quality.

The reviews for Villa Nova boggle my mind! A lot of great reviewers have rated them well, and usually I agree with them, but OH MY GOODNESS do I dislike Villa Nova! 1) The smell. Walking in the door makes me want to pull my shirt up over my nose. It smells like stale pizza. Like skating rinks in the early 90s sorts of pizza. I can't get past it. 2) The food. It isn't for me. It's all sort of mushy and bland in my opinion. There are so many robust flavors that can come out in Italian food but most of this tastes like Chef Boyardee canned pasta sauce to me. 3) The decor. Now this is nitpicky, and honest to goodness, I did not deduct any stars for it, even if I don't like it. I felt like I was sitting in an episode of Hoarders: Tea Kettle's Revenge. It was creepy and I don't understand why other people don't think it's creepy! The one plus (and thing that made me laugh) was the "World's Largest Teapot" with its computer printed sign, looking all shady and malevolent tucked into one side of the dining room. There's nothing quite like a sinister, giant tea kettle to start good conversation at a table. Specifically a conversation about how there's no way in hell that teapot is the largest in the world. Lots of smartphone googling ensued. I'm going to upload a picture in a minute, so be sure to check it out. (The picture, not the restaurant.) This place isn't far from work, and it would be a cheapish and convenient meal if I liked it, but I just plain don't. And if you have similar tastes to mine, you won't either.

I can't say I was either disappointed or overly thrilled by Villa Nova - thus making it a solid 3-star in my opinion. Our waiter more than rushed us - he pretty much wanted our food order as soon as we sat down and had just cracked open our menus. I'm not exaggerating here either. I usually like a prompt waiter, but feeling pressured to make a decision immediately during my first time at a restaurant was a bit much. Our food itself wasn't bad. We each got a variety of things (I believe a sampler was even ordered) so that we could try a bit of everything and see what we liked best. I think my favorites were the gnocchi and the cheese ravioli. I keep reading that the bread sticks have good and bad days, so I hope the day we went was a bad day because I could have played baseball with them. Despite the initial pushiness of our waiter, the promptness of service there-on-out was appreciated because our glasses never stayed empty long and our food quickly found its way to our table.

Our server was wonderful and listened to what we wanted. We were fortunate that they still had fresh basil for a Margharita Pizza, and the outcome was delicious. The wine was lovely but the beer list is limited. In the end we all enjoyed the food and beverage in a very nice family relaxed atmosphere.

Ugh... really guys? I gave it an extra star for the COLD beer, but that's all it's getting! The pasta is bland and mushy, pizza is just ok, and everything else is so so. And c'mon... an order of pasta with a side of pasta? OK, yes, I'm being a snob. But sometimes you just have to be snobby about food. It's not worth the calories.

Villa Nova is our go-to place for special ocassions w/ family or when we're in need of some good comfort Italian food. The little bar is very cool. Their pizza is what they are known for, but I recommend the spaghetti and gnochhi dishes. Yumm-o! Their subs are pretty good too. Friendly staff, as well! Villa Nova will always be our favorite!

Wow! I was told this place was good by friends and finally tried it. It is SO GOOD. Had a veggie pizza, super yummy! My date had a meat lovers pizza and loved it. Service was very good and quick. There was a wait because it was so busy, but it wasn't that bad of a wait and they sat people as quickly as they could, cleaning tables off as soon as the parties left the table. The prices weren't too bad, either. And the decor is definitely memorable. We sat in the room with tea kettles everywhere. EVERYWHERE. It's very cool!

Staple. You are only cheating yourself if you don't try this place. They have coldest beer in town. Must add the house sausage to your dish, trust me you'll thank me. Any place that buys the building next door to tear down and build a parking lot because they need more parking must be doing something right.

AMAZING FOOD! The best chicken parmesan I have ever had. Also the fettuccine alfredo is wonderful! I am upset they got rid of their shrimp scampi that was to die for! It is always crowded when I go, but the wait is never too long. ORDER AHEAD OF TIME TO-GO! Call, place your order, pick it up in 20 minutes, go home, and enjoy! Enjoy the great taste at home without waiting too long for it!

The Italian wedding soup is some of the best I've had. The pizza is pretty good: crisp crust, tasty sauce. The baked pasta is very filling. It's $7.25 for a plate of pasta, meat sauce and mozzarella melted on top. You can add soup/salad for only $2. The ambience is casual with copper pots lining the walls. The service is excellent with a wait staff that's quick and attentive. I highly recommend Villa Nova.

I was hungry for pasta & working in Cclumbus. On my way back to hotel, I found Villa Nova Ristorante on Yelp! Ordered Takeout: Spaghetti with Meatsauce. It came with salad & 3 breadsticks. Order was ready in 15 minutes, hot and delicious. Great choice. Restaurant was clean, quaintly decorated and the staff was very nice.

Do you like massive amounts of melted cheese? Of course you do, who doesn't? Well then, if you are not overly pretentious then you'll probably enjoy Villa Nova. The food certainly isn't the most amazing Italian I've ever had, but I still like it. I've never liked red sauce, but for some reason (possibly the massive amounts of said cheese) I find myself ordering it here every time. My favorite dish is gnocchi with meatballs. The gnocchi is nice and soft and the meatballs are really flavorful The breadsticks are tasty, but the accompanying salad is a bit underwhelming. Great wine prices, although the selection isn't really that spectacular. The staff is always friendly and warm. I've sat at the bar, in the restaurant and ordered carry out and have never had a bad experience. Villa Nova certainly isn't a place to go for gourmet food but if your looking for a friendly, neighborhood place with inexpensive comfort food this is it. Seriously, they bought the pie shop next door just to tear it down and build a bigger parking lot. That should really tell you something.

If your mom made lasagna in the 80's and you're yearning for that nostalgia, go here. We got the lasagna (which for some reason seems to be to old school for many italian restaurants to carry these days?? Don't get it) and it came with garlic breadsticks and a large iceberg salad with the tiny croutons. There were a lot of older folks and kids there including a waitress who brought her kids to work...they were quite...audible. We liked the lasagna and said we'd probably go back if we had that childhood italian craving. You're not going to get a fancy schmancy dining experience and you know what, that's okay. Sometimes you're tired of snooty restaurants trying too hard and failing and paying out the wallet for it. Our server was a nice guy, the atmoshere was kitschy and the only suggestion I'd have would be to make sure they clean off all of the tables and seats because it didn't look like ours had been. We'll likely be bringing my grandparents here because they can be picky about their food and this is right up their alley.

    I. Could. Live. Here. This is my most favorite place to eat on the weekends. I love the casual atmosphere, the friendly staff, and the FOOD. OH THE FOOD! I really like the feel of Villa Nova. You get there and there is ALWAYS a wait. Which sucks, right! NO! Because the entire right side of the place is a cute townie bar, that has all my favorite beers on tap. So you get a buzzer and throw back a huge goblet of beer while you wait. And over in the bar they have free appetizers and popcorn. It is always filled with locals and it gives the place such a homey charm. I always love sitting there enjoying the atmosphere and the music. But then....your buzzer goes off, and you're whisked away! Villa Nova has downright fantastic food. Reasonably priced, too. You always get a starter of the most amazing bread sticks, and I personally always opt in for a bowl of Italian Wedding Soup. This soup...ohhh this soup. I want an IV of this 24/7. They use chicken instead of meatballs, and I don't know man, but it's working. It is delicious. I tend to almost always order the pasta sampler, because I can't get over how amazing it is. You get a huge plate of lasagna, then another plate of ravioli, a huge meatball, and gnocchi. THEN you also get a side of their homemade spaghetti [which is freaking buttery, rich and amazing.] The soup and breadsticks come included with all this for $14.95. I usually end up taking more than half home. I will update this once I go to try the alfredo, but I have heard from some friends that it is hands down, the best alfredo they have ever had. I have only had their pepperoni pizza, but the flavor is awesome. The pepperoni is just phenomenal and flavors the whole pizza. All around this is just It a good joint. So if you want to support local small-business, and enjoy a kitschy environment and good italian food, you NEED to check this place out!

Kick ass Italian food - better quality than your usual Buca, etc, really great prices. I had the tortellini and meatballs. Garlic cheesy bread as an appetizer. It was great. And this place is ALWAYS packed, and I'm pretty sure they don't take reservations. Worth the wait though!!

Just moved to this neighborhood and decided to try Vila Nova This food had nothing to do with Italian food- just because theirs pizza served doesn't make it Italian! The restaurant also looks like a cell, not having even one window in the restaurant. I felt so out of place, the youngest customer in the dining room was about 90 years old! I'll be back in 40 years!

A client actually took me to eat lunch here yesterday. The atmosphere was really nice and quiet for a late lunch time crowd, which I really appreciated. Our waitress was really attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. I always think a good sign of a waitress is when you don't have to signal them for more of your beverage. They're paying attention when it gets low and offer to fill it. She definitely did this and asked if we were enjoying our meal. Really great service. I ordered the Fettuccini Alfredo with chicken, which is optional. It was okay. The sauce was a little thick for me and I would have liked my noodles a little softer. I've honestly had better as far as Fettuccini. What I did appreciate was the fact that they gave you a lot of chicken. I hate it when you order a pasta dish with meat and there are like 2 pieces of meat in a sea of pasta. Overall I'd rate the experience as okay. I'd visit again but maybe try a different dish.

My snobby Italian tastebuds make an exception for Villa Nova. I don't know why, but the gnocci at VIlla Nova is among my favorite gnoccis in the city. I also really dug the Italian dressing that comes on the salad (shut up, you and I both know not all Italian dressing is created equal). The breadsticks can be amazing or meh depending on who's manning the oven that day. Also, this place defines kitsch to me. What is the deal with all the tea kettles? Why is there a Ms. Pacman machine in the entrance way (that my boyfriend eviscerates me on, but I'm not bitter or anything)? I have no idea, but that's part of Villa Nova's charm. I don't even mind waiting when I know Ms. Pacman or the huge bar on the other side of the restaurant are options for my cooling of the heels. And once you're at a table, service has been a snap in my experiences, even when I was here with a huge group. It's not going to be gourmet, but order a glass of house wine(it's cheap, you can TOTALLY AFFORD IT), stare in wonder at all the tea kettles, and relax. I doubt you'll be sorry.

Can't beat the value of this hole in the wall Italian restaurant. It is basic Italian done very well. I loved the Veggie lasagna. I suspect many of their pasta dishes would likely taste the same as they are smothered in sauce and lots of cheese. This is a great place to take a large group that may include kids. They also have non italian items incase you have a picky member of your group.

I love this place. Discovered this place because I seen a packed parking lot and lines outside... worth it! LIke Grandma used to make. Plus super sized beers for super cheap too. I love the staff, food and bar.

The decor is insane, and it's very brightly lit, although the bar looked nice and dark. It's all a little confusing if you're going for the first time with other people who have never been there. Also, expect to see a lot of old people. Our group (including my Mom) had the youngest people other than actual children or grownup adults with THEIR parents. We ordered a small pizza, and my meal came with soup or salad. I opted for the wedding soup. I was really impressed with it--dark meat chicken tells me it's probably at least semi-homemade (I know that's not for everyone, but I prefer dark meat)! Also, the appetizer was a huge bowl, not a cup. I had two bites of my entree after two small squares of pizza because the soup was such a large portion. I ordered the gnocchi. It came with two massive meatballs. It was not the best pasta I've ever had, but it was pretty good and I liked the sauce, especially for the price. Our server was fun, nice and attentive. We had an awkward moment when I asked for a "Hoster" and he thought I asked for a "coaster" (apparently I pronounced it incorrectly). Anywho, he was funny and I am happy to say I really liked the Columbus brew. The pizza was really good. I love thin crust pizza cut into squares, so that was my ideal pizza. For anyone who's ever had the pleasure of eating Casano's--it's sort of like that. Salty-bottomed crust with spicy pepperoni and a pretty good sauce. I will definitely go back. I loved the soup and the pizza was delish. It's inexpensive and the service was good. Also the beer was priced really well and it was deliciously ice cold in a frosty mug!

I have to give Villa Nova four stars. The wait is usually pretty long to get a table and the bar area is always crowded, but I've never had a bad trip to this Italian restaraunt and bar. The food is always very good. I especially like the chicken parm and the spegetti with meatballs. The waiters arn't always easy to work with as there is usually such a large crowd and the restaraunt is pretty small for such a large crowd, but that has added to the fun at times. Parking can be kind of a hassle if there is an especially large crowd but the prices for food and drinks arn't sky high or anything and the bar is very well-stocked. The decor is also pretty fun with their huge collection of brass tea pots covering everywall of the eating area. The bar also has some cool decorations as well. It's usually a fun trip in all.

Have lived in Clintonville for three years and went to Villa Nova tonight for first time. Had lasagna. Damn that is good lasagna!! Now I know why their parking lot is always full. I will be back, Villa Nova!

Hands down the best pizza in COLUMBUS. Try the spaghetti too...but the champ is the double meatball pizza. Your life will never be the same ate you try the pie at this place.

Homemade spaghetti and sauce are so hard to come by nowadays, and Villa Nova does a fantastic job at it! Wow, I was pretty blown away by a simple bowl of noodles! I had the pasta sampler, and have to say that the spaghetti and gnocchi were teh stars for me. I just wanted more and more! The lasagna was intense - huge portion with generation cheese (minimal ricotta which was nice). If you like burnt cheese, you will love this dish. I've honestly never been much of a ravioli or cannolini person, so those were just ok for me. The salad was fresh and plentiful, though it was just above average. If you go, get the gnocchi (perfect texture if I ever had a perfect gnocchi) and spaghetti. We ate so much, that we had to roll our ways out of the restaurant because it was just so delicious! The server was so good too! It was really busy that night, and we always felt like we had what we needed. The decor was really cute too between teh pressure gauges (I am an engineer so appreciate that) and the copper pots. Did I mention this was affordable too? This is probably half the price of similar (maybe lower actually) quality food I've had in Cincinnati. If I somehow walked out of here loving ravioli and cannolini, I think this would be a definite 5 star. For sure, the gnocchi and spaghetti were top-notch and at that level though.

Villa Nova is on the south end of Worthington and makes for a great dinner stop if you want some local flavor. The bar was recently voted (Columbus Alive, I believe...) to have the "Coldest Beer in Town." The atmosphere of the bar is cozy and quirky, with license plates lining the walls and the bar staffed with friendly bartenders. From what I hear, if you get your timing right for happy hour, they have free pizza. But don't hold me to that, because I haven't been lucky enough to get there early enough. I've paid for pizza in the dining room, and it's quite delicious. I'm a fan of the white pizza. Yum! The dining room, which is through the door on the left when you walk in, looks like it's been the same way for about 20 years. With the exception of the flat panel TV mounted on the back wall. The servers are all extremely friendly and the service has never failed me. Breadsticks and wedding soup/house salad accompany most all meals and blow Olive Garden out of the water (not that it's hard). My favorites on the menu are the Shells Florentine and the Gnocchi, which comes with a meatball and happens to be the best part. The portions are large enough to share, or take home your extras for lunch the next day. Villa Nova is a hidden gem sandwiched between Worthington and Clintonville. It's great for families or large parties. With great service and friendly staff, I'm a fan!

This is the best mom and pop italian place I have ever been to! They make everything from scratch, including their noodles and sauce. I could come here once a week just for the bread! I recommend the fettuccine and the lasagna. I have heard their pizza is really good as well. The prices are great too!!

I tried to find a reason to give VN something other that 5 stars, but I was left staring at my wall. The rundown: The place: VN is a little south of Worthington proper, a little north of Beechwold/Clintonville on High St. There's a decent amount of parking in the restaurant's lot, but it's almost always full anytime around dinner time. Inside you'll be forced to make a quick decision: LEFT to the restaurant, RIGHT to the bar. Maybe for most this is a rather easy decision, but I often find myself unconsciously wandering towards beer taps, so I had to stop and think about which way I should go. SO the restaurant is very warm and COZY (as Italian restaurants are prone to be). The light's a bit low, the walls are covered in this-and-that (mostly copper teapots of some sort). There is a decent amount of seating - off the top of my head I'd estimate 20 tables or so. The bathrooms are clean - no complaints there. The bar is small-but-not-tiny. It's cozy as well, which is really appealing on a rainy night (as was the case last time I ventured up High St.). The Service: We were served promptly, competently and efficiently. Our waiter was knowledgeable and personable - a very nice guy. The Food: In a word: DELISH. I had the chicken parm. with a side of spaghetti. My meal also game with garlic bread and a salad. Everything was great. My girlfriend had the seafood pasta (with scallops and shrimp), and she loved it. We shared tiramisu for dessert, and it was delicious as well. The Drinks: I got a tall Bud Light. (AND NOW WE STOP: turns out the tall beers at VN are ONE LITER mugs - SCORE!). The liter mug was $4.00. Entirely reasonable in my book. My gf got a couple dirty martinis, and she liked them (she's super picky when it comes to martinis too, so there). They were around $5 a piece, if I remember correctly. The price: Dinner for two with dessert and drinks was around $50. Granted, our drinks accounted for about $20 of that. Thus, I imagine you can get dinner for two for around $30 if you get soft drinks or water with your meals. Overall: Since moving to Columbus a few months back, Villa Nova has become one of my go-to-restaurants. It's not a fancy place, but the food is great, the atmosphere is super comfortable and laid-back, the staff is great, the beers are huge (and COLD (they recently won Alive! magazine's award for "coldest beer in columbus.")) In sum: VN is always a good dinner pick. I'd recommend it to any and all who like things that are great (and who the heck doesn't?)

This is a pretty good restaurant. Not too pricey but just enough. Tonight I had the lasagna, and that alone was enough. They do have a lot of other dishes I'd like to try.

I should probably give three stars because of the overall experience each time I've been there, but the food is great and the portions are generous when dining-in, so I'll be generous with the stars. The restaurant has its own parking lot, but finding a spot can be challenging, especially on weekends. What they don't have is a waiting area, which is especially annoying for anyone who is disabled or doesn't like to stand outside when it's very hot or very cold. Be advised that this is a casual restaurant and it's not conducive to a romantic Italian dinner. It's quite loud when there's music playing in the bar, and I have also seen miniature humans, whose parents obviously lack the knack for parenting, wandering about and being disruptive. The quality of service has been hit or miss for me; I've encountered more than one waiter/waitress with an attitude problem, as well as those who've failed to refill drinks. I've also called ahead for carry-out a handful of times; they sometimes skimp on those portions. Once, I was told that the food would be ready in 20 minutes, but I stood there for another 40 minutes after I arrived, because I lacked motivation to fight my way out the door and go elsewhere. Overall, you'll love this place if you're a low-maintenance diner who likes great food. If, however, you're the kind of person who expects an overall A+ dining experience wherever you go, this probably won't be the place for you.

The food is great and reasonably priced. The pizza is some of the best in town, and their noodles and sauces are very distinct and delicious! They have amazing happy hour specials. The atmosphere is very casual and the decor is outdated. It is hard to find parking during busy times.

I have mixed feelings about what to write here, because some aspects I really liked while others were a big disappointment. Three of us went in at 7:15 on a Saturday night. 40 minute wait, no problem. We wandered into the bar and got some giant mugs of beer. The bar was pretty charming. A big round bar dominating most of the kitschy room with the booze and bartenders in the center. When our turn for food came, we were seated in a cozy little booth in a room filled with copper kettles. Cute. The menu looked really good and I debated for a while between cappellini with vegetables, cappellini spaghettini, seafood alfredo, chicken fettuccine alfredo, and pesto pizza. I finally settled on the chicken fettuccine alfredo, which comes with garlic sticks and a side salad. My companions had pesto pizza and chicken parm and we got bacon cheddar potato skins for an appetizer (kind of a strange offering at an Italian place). The appetizer was delicious, as were the greasy garlic sticks. My Caesar side salad was the best part of my meal. It was complemented by large shreds of Parmesan and a halved cherry tomato along with plenty of croutons. Then the dinner came. Maybe I should have been expecting bland with fettuccine alfredo, but I've had it elsewhere and it's been wonderful. Here, it looked like something my little brother would have gotten when he was a picky 10-year-old. It looked like something from a cafeteria! The chicken was pale and flavorless. The alfredo sauce also had practically no taste. The noodles were overcooked. No amount of cheese, pepper, or salt was going to improve this meal. I took two bites and left the rest. My friend who got the chicken parm was similarly unimpressed. Perhaps their pizzas are the way to go; the pesto looked pretty tasty. I thought overall that it was a cute place with good prices. If only their food were better.

Villa Nova has a local feel that is welcoming both in service and food. I have eaten here a few times at different occasions and have come up with similar favorable results. The lunches specials are inexpensive with about $10 even with a beer. The dinners are not bad in price and quality, and the portions are more than generous, especially if you count the fresh bread sticks and salad. The pizza I had one time was good with the right mix of sauce and cheese and generous pepperoni and sausage. I have also tried a couple of pastas - lasagna and manicotti - with more filling than savory results. The specials are also worth a try though nothing mind-blowing. The ambiance is quaint, though I could see it overbearing some. Too much of everything and too little on the lighting. The bar area is also nice, though it seems the seating inches to the walls during busy hours. All in all - the place comes recommended, not for anything special but for a bit of everything. Cheap and good food, nice people, but not anything to run to during your one special night in town.

Great local place when you want real Italian food surrounded by family. We were fourth in line to be seated on a busy Friday night. Everyone was talking about the day's specials, looking over menus and the next thing we knew our table was ready. This small family restaurant is crowded with families, and children. Copper kettles line the walls and the place is chaotic but the service went off without a hitch and the food was very good. Super thin crust on the pizza, loaded w/ yummy toppings. We will definitely go back!

This restaurant feels very comfortable, like a warm, dark, and cozy place right out of the 1970s. Because it seems to be packed every night, we usually get carry-out and are able to bypass everyone who is waiting for a table. Food is ready is about 20-30 minutes after calling for carryout, and it has always been very hot and delicious - lots of baked pastas loaded with cheese and sauce, and always exactly the right texture. I'm addicted to the eggplant parmesan and also really like the lasagna. Spaghetti noodles are slightly flattened and kind of yellow-orange, and it is really the only spaghetti that my kids will eat. The side salads are a bit average, and the broccoli cheese soup is pretty good. The restaurant has lots of parking, even considering how big the crowds get.

Went to Villa for dinner. I love just love this place. I love their pizza. This meal we got wedding soup (to die for), salad, garlic bread/cheese and pizza. Everything was so good. This is a good old pizza joint. I love the staff and the warm enivroment. People who talk about the decore - who cares about the kettles or weird pictures. I think it makes it kind of fun and different. I don't want Villa to ever 'sell'. Their appeal is warm comffy boothes, popcorn at the bar, big tv playing the latest sport game.

The Denny's of Italian food. Allow me to reflect the same disappointment several other people's reviews show. I too had heard good things, only to be let down. The place is very clean, and I will say all the brass on display looks nice; also our staff was very courteous and prompt. My complaints boil down to poor food quality. I had a bowl of Italian wedding soup, some bread sticks, the side salad and their version of chicken parm. The wedding soup was actually chicken noodle soup that tasted like it was out of a can, the bread sticks also tasted like they were leftovers from a high school cafeteria. The side salad was about average but the big let down was the chicken parm. Imagine you have three small chicken tenders from the Walmart lunch counter, now cover it with a bland red sauce and throw two slices of low quality cheese on it charge ten dollars for it all and congratulations, you've got yourself a Villa Nova dinner. No one else at my table bothered taking their leftovers home either.

I knew it was going to be a lonnnnng night when I saw the bartender pull the jug of Reunite out from behind the bar when I ordered a glass of the house red. Frankly, I never came here expecting a five star meal or award-winning winelist, but that made me laugh. I wasn't bothered. Just learned my lesson early on. Now, I can't knock this place, because I quite like the food and the general atmosphere. I have a warm place in my heart for bars that cover their walls with license plates and cookware. Villa Nova is just your standard neighborhood Italian restaurant. Nothing fancy. People don't drive across town to eat here, but the locals are faithful followers. I've been coming here since about 1997 or '98 and the menu has evolved a bit after changing owners once or twice, but otherwise it has remained more or less the same. It's affordable. The restaurant is family friendly. The bar can be festive and rowdy. Prices are great. I can't give it more than 3 stars though, because I'm comparing it to a few other Italian places where i like the food better.

I've been coming here for a little over a year. it's always good. I get the eggplant parm and it comes with a side of spaghetti and a salad + breadsticks. I've had other dishes here, as well, and everything's been great. If you like ranch dressing, try that on your salad; Wow! The service is phenominal and they have a full bar.

Not a bad neighborhood restaurant. Gets most of my stars from the casual and fun atmosphere, with lots of character (esp the bar!) Pastas and pizzas are good, but not memorable. Everything is a little bland and very simple: Pasta, sauce, meat. Not a lot of veggies here; just iceberg lettuce salads. The breadsticks are yummy and buttery! Yes, the wine is cheap, both in price and quality, but it just works at this place. My advice: Order take-out and get a big glass of cheap wine while you wait at the bar. Eat your big plate of spaghetti in the park!

The only way this place got as high a rating as it did HAS to be because the drunk carnies that I was surrounded by wrote them. The glass of Chianti i got at first was definitely opened a long time ago and had gotten a bit vinegary. The bartender was polite at the time and replaced it. The 2nd glass was better. I ordered fettucine alfredo and the pasta was cooked fine but the cream sauce was abominable. It honestly looked like they microwaved the sauce because it was separated with clumps of parmesan in it. I took one bite, and a second to be sure it sucked as bad as I thought and it sure did. I immediately asked for the check and the bartender asks if I want to take it with me. I said no and he promptly took the plate and got the check. He didnt ask if it was ok and when I asked if they microwaved the sauce he said "they shouldnt be". He should have taken it off the bill. Instead I paid for a heap of garbage (because I dont have the gumption to make a scene) and went looking for a proper eatery. Thats the last time i ask any hotel staff for recommendations.

Good food and atmosphere, but don't expect cell phone reception. The walls are covered with hundreds of copper pots. The current going theory is that they are the reason for the lack of cell phone service in the restaurant. I have no idea if this is intentional or not, but it sure is nice to be able to eat an excellent meal and not have someone chattering on their phone behind you. The waiters are sweet and tend to have great senses of humor, and the food is positively droolworthy. I second Fettuccine Alfredo and bread sticks. Say goodbye to your diet.

It's amore! Villa Nova Ristorante is good Italian food that's not that expensive. You can easily get a meal under ten dollars. Here I thought this place was my little secret. Guess I was wrong. But that's a good thing! People should hear about this place. I think they've changed it a little, though. When I first went to Villa Nova a few years ago, I remember them serving popcorn instead of breadsticks but since then they've stopped serving the popcorn. I thought that was interesting because I'd never had popcorn at an Italian restaurant before. The ambience is homey. I don't know if that has to do with there being a lot of people packed into a little place or those infamous copper pots hanging all over the walls making it look like your Italian grandmother's kitchen. I am a big fan of lots of tomato sauce, and they put more than an adequate amount on their food. Eating the stuffed shells is like finding buried treasure. And what delicious treasure it is!

First time eating their pizza an I can't lie.....between two people we ate a whole large with everything...maybe we were just really hungry, but it was really good. Enjoyed the thin crust with the square cut pieces, and it was a fight to the finish for the outer edge pieces (which is the best pieces).

Villa Nova is a neighborhood place that has been around forever. I really shouldn't like this place. "Ragu" (meant in the jarred sauce sense) buried in cheese Italian is almost always disappointing endeavor. Don't expect to find brascioli, ossobuco, carpaccio, scaloppini offerings or any sophisticated items on their menu. There are lots of Italian/Pizza joints that use the same 4 ingredients (canned sauce, pasta, cheese, and pizza dough) to make an entire boring menu that won't offend anyone, but also won't win any awards. But dammit, Villa Nova some how is .... good. The sauce is surprisingly good, they do silly touches like mix a little balsamic into a generic italian dressing to make a rather good house offering, their house wine is cheap and quite good. Sure things are deep fried more often than not. Seafood is often from frozen. In light of all this, really, I should hate this place. But I don't. It is quality comfort food. No pretense and prepared well consistently. Sometimes that's all you need.

  • Claire B.

We go here lots. The place is so laid back and we're hooked on their fresh pasta. Delicious! Love their spaghetti, gnocchi, and wedding soup. Not a big fan of their alfredo sauce or their sad sad salads. The pizza has super super thin crust and is goood.

  • L B.

The atmosphere is quirky, if not almost creepy, but the pizza is consistently delicious! I haven't tried a wide variety of their menu items, so i can't speak for the other dishes. If you're looking for a casual place to grab pizza and cold beer, you can't go wrong here.

For several years this was my little hideaway. I moved away but still miss the place. While you won't find them winning any 'best meal ever' awards, they serve comfort food like no one else and you get a good bit for your buck! They drown absolutely everything in heaps of cheese (which is probably the reason for my addiction) and serve it with a smile. The wait is usually less than 5 minutes, the atmosphere relatively calm and private. All in all, a great place to drown yourself in a pint along with a bowl of their delectable fettucine alfredo and bread sticks. Yum.

I went here around 8:30 on a week night and the place was packed... only 2 tables left...to me, thats a good sign! I'm a vegetarian so I ordered the spaghetti with plain sauce. I wasn't a fan of the salad, as it tasted like it was out of a bag, but the breadsticks and spaghetti were delicious. The staff was very friendly too. I think I found a new place to frequent!

this place never disappoints. Warm, friendly, great service and good food. This place is so comfortable and we always go there when we want to feel stuffed and happy! My husband is from Cleveland, and this is the closest we have found to the family establishments he grew up with. Yes the salad is just standard (love the house dressing though) great pizza, veggie sub and eggplant. Bar is always fun too, but is definetely a place for the "usuals."

Wow! This pizza was very delicious. My wife and I ordered the pepperoni and cheese and was extremely satisfied. The customer service was top notch as well. I'd like to get extra topping next time I go. If you're in the area, give it a try!

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
