I ordered Szechuan Cottage 2 times, which was roughly 3 times too many. It get's major perks for being a place that delivers, a trait which is incredibly sparse in the Chinese food department of Columbus, but it loses all those and more when you get the food. Words I would use to describe the food. Mushy Overpriced Oddly flavored Tasteless Disgusting Why did I think this was a good idea again? Ewww Overall, I would say that this is among the worst Chinese food I have ever tasted. and I have tasted alot.

Most of us had that one little dive in college that, for whatever reason, scratched us right where we itched. We ate there faithfully and religiously, sometimes feeling that we were the only customer keeping them in business, and praying to the culinary gods that it would still be there the following morning. For me, Szechuan Cottage was that place. The place used to reside in south campus, and when Campus Partners razed block after block along High Street, I was sure they would be one of the many silent casualties, but they relocated north, just south of Dodridge. Before I gush, let me first be clear: there are a number of potential reasons why people would want to steer clear of this particular choice. The menu is limited. The cuisine isn't really szechuan style but more of a frankensteined version of it. Parking is a nightmare as it is typically limited to permit-only side streets. They don't cater or have a wait staff. And I can't speak on the dining room ambiance because there isn't one -the surroundings are just shy of depressingly sparse (Nong's in Grandview is the same way). Okay, gushing time. The food may not be culinary masterpieces, but in my humble opinion it is delicious. Very flavorful, even to the point where I rarely have to add any additional seasonings or even soy sauce (perhaps the best egg rolls I've ever had). The portions are generous, as you would expect with most Chinese places, and the staff (if you want to call the quiet married couple who run the place a staff) is very friendly in spite of their shyness and broken English. It's hard to gauge just how much business this joint gets, because in spite of their dining room, it seems to exist strictly as a carry-out/delivery operation, but I hope it's a lot, because it's still a standby for me and I still pray for them to the culinary gods. Is my enthusiasm and potentially slanted review based solely on simple college nostalgia? Perhaps, but while I don't trust many people, I do trust my palette implicitly.

Tried it twice, but didn't like it. Mostly cheap fast Chinese food although it offers delivery.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
