I hadn't been to this theatre for many years but generally speaking, I liked the experience. Went to an afternoon show though and didn't have a full meal but I generally stay away from paying a lot of money for non-restaurant food. Small seating area - I thought the chair was comfortable and they have a lot of appetizers to choose from that are better options than buttered popcorn if you don't want to get a full meal. We had the pretzels and queso which was a solid snacking choice. I will say the movie sound was waaaayy too loud - like blow you out of the theatre loud. We actually found ourselves admittedly stressed coming out of the theatre. The screen was also way too big for the room. You can snag some passes pretty frequently on Groupon, it's worth the visit once in awhile.

Go-to theater for a quick movie I'm honestly surprised at how bad so many of the reviews are, but then again I had never been to the old Arena Grand, so I don't have that comparison. I've seen probably a dozen movies here and have always enjoyed a great experience. The staff have always been friendly, whether in the box office, at the bar, or in the theater. I like the atmosphere in the lobby, with the bar and seating upstairs, and the theaters are clean, if a bit old. Sometimes if you're seeing an older film on its way out, the theaters are in the back, and you have to walk through hallways that seem employees-only, which is a little weird. I usually just get popcorn, but their pizza is good, too, and we love the daily drink specials, especially $5 big beer can Wednesdays (love Foster's oil cans!). They also usually have a small local draft selection. The service is consistently timely and friendly. I think maybe one time we didn't get the waters we asked for? There's usually a Groupon deal for $5 tickets, so make sure to check before buying your tickets. I guess I'm okay with the bad Yelp reviews if it means the theater stays less crowded, but I'd be really sad if they closed.

I've never been a fan of dine-in theaters. Like others, I don't enjoy eating in the dark. Popcorn and nachos are one thing, trying to find the one spot to place your fork and knife is another. So, when I take a star off this theater for not having traditional movie fare, know that it isn't personal - it's just my own personal preference. Other than that, I really like the small theater experience. It's really cozy to have a movie playing on a screen with just 28 seats. Additionally, I think the seats are just fine. They're not tiny (ahem... Continent) and they are comfortable. And really, that's all I need. I do, however, have an issue with the smallest three screens being a very long walk (practically a 360 degree circle back to the ticket booth) from the rest of the theater. If you have to go to the restroom, it's almost easier to exit the theater to the right and take the few short steps left and into the front again. Too bad you can't come back this way. Overall, not a bad place (believe me, I have seen much worse), but not a must-go spot either.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I don't love the restaurant /movie theater concept because it is very distracting from the movie when everything smells like food (not popcorn) and there are waiters running around everywhere. The food is really good though, so I can't complain about that. The parking situation also bothers me though, and it automatically makes this a more pricey option for movie watching, because there are very few people who would be able to walk here from where they live. Overall though, the re-design created huge theaters, a cool bar, and brought in food which I guess is cool sometimes. I miss the tiny more intimate theaters, but that's just me!

We hadn't been here for years and it seems that it has changed somewhat. Again we went via the Yelp Block Party and the food was awesome. We did not even know that the little bar level even existed. Love the party atmosphere, the bar itself is not huge but it does have other seating available that is very comfortable. We usually only go to movies twice a year. I have seen a Groupon for this spot and have not gotten it due to financial issues, but now that things are looking up for us, I will be purchasing some Groupons and we will be back. I love movies and my man does like them when he can stay awake. He does much better at a theater compared to home so it will be a win-win for both of us.

Cheyenne is the best bartender ever. He makes an absolutely amazing Old Fashioned. Which is not an easy drink to master. Love this place for movies and dinner and drinks all in one place.

Well, that was a horrible experience. Came to see debut of the Minion movie. Asked for a water, nothing. Ate my meal all the way thru, asked for it a second and third time. 30 minutes into the film I had 3 waters delivered to me. The service is distracting, and the whole place smells like an Applebee's. That's not a good thing. Overpriced for sure, and the steak Cobb salad had no dressing, and cucumber and tomato which I wasn't expecting per the menu. Also, who wants to eat something they can't see in the dark? Odd. Also no connection to the server because you don't want to talk during the movie. I felt so annoying asking for what I wanted.

The movie theaters are modern and nice but the service and facilities need work. I went to the bathroom at 9 and came back 2 hours later and it was worse. Clogged sinks, disgusting stalls, etc. Makes you not want to eat here let alone sit and watch a movie. Yuck

Super excited to come see a movie tonight while enjoying dinner because I have free passes from work, so I figured eh it's free, even though I read the bad reviews. Whomp whomp. 1. Staff is apathetic and robotic. 2. Saw a girl in the kitchen (which is open area from the bar) using her acrylic dragon nail to itch her head, then grabbing food to serve. 3. The place IS in fact disgusting. How it manages to look dirty after being newly renovated escapes me. Gross. I feel bad giving these tickets to anyone.

Saw a matinee here today. I got my ticket and heading to my assigned seat. When I arrived at my seat I found dirty glassware with a ticket from the night before. I sat a couple of seats down and rang for a waiter. The waiter apologized and took the glasses away. He did not wipe the tables off though so I remained in the seat two seats down. In the theater I was in not only did we have waiters coming in to wait on the patrons in my theater but there were waiters cutting through our theater in what appeared to be on the way to another theater. It was kind of a distraction since it was my first time here. Overall the seats were comfortable and the waiter was nice but I'll probably be sticking with some of the theaters more out in the suburbs since I don't live in downtown.

THE GOOD: The theater feels fairly modern, which is nice, and it was clean. The seating is comfortable and the sound system is great. You can order beverages and sandwiches that get hand-delivered to your seat, which seems to be turning into the norm. I'm not sure on the quality of the food, as I had eaten a huge dinner before my visit. You can also reserve which seats you want at the kiosks in front. Very nice. THE BAD: The movie we went to see was supposed to start at 10:30pm. At 10:20 the usher told us that the theater was not allowing people in yet. At 10:30 the theater was still being cleaned. Finally at 10:36 the usher motioned to us that it was okay to go inside the theater. The trailers didn't start until around 10:50. I realize I may be nitpicking, but if you're on a strict schedule of any kind be sure to allow yourself an additional hour to be finished with your movie. THE UGLY: Some of the ushers and other employees were still in their uniforms sitting at one of the lobby tables while eating dinner. Again, I may be nitpicking, but this does not look professional whatsoever in my opinion. THE FINAL VERDICT: If you require a theater with a great sound system, definitely give this place a try so long as you can ignore some of the shortcomings of the way its being run and you aren't on a strict schedule.

Definitely not the greatest movie theater but they offer $5.00 movie tickets on groupon and $5.00 popcorn. I can't think of another theater where you can get that deal now a days. The food and service are both mediocre. We ordered the nachos which is pretty difficult to eat between 2 people in a movie theater. We asked them to split it and put it on two separate plates.....pretty easy request, and they refused. I live down the street from this theater so i will continue to go hear due to the easy convenience and low cost of tickets. I'm actually heading there tonight to see Avengers. Crossing my fingers it's s good experience.

Great concept for the area and SO WELL-PRICED! Beats all other area theaters. Have been many times, different nights of the week and also Sunday matinees. Food and drink specials are a great price value, and offering parking garage validation makes the downtown location not a deterrent! Menu is nothing fancy but there's variety for everyone and food tastes great to go along with your movie. SMG always gets the new releases right away too, so it's a weekly go-to for us!

I was not happy with the whole concept and execution of this establishment. First off, I'll comment on the decor. After parking in the attache garage, and walking to the entrance and got my ticket at the box office, I decided to peruse the place. I haven't been here for several years, thus was curious to see what the recent remodeling had done for the joint. Sum it up in one word? Blah! Greyish blue painted walls; a bar and stools area that was too small (too much empty, unused space); very little seating options, while waiting for the theater to open. This place has done a thing or two right, however. Main highlight: Comfy leather chairs! A friend and I decided to order some food before the flick started. I rtied the Mushroom Swiss Burger (comes with fries). It took a good 20-25 minutes to serve it. It was ok - nothing good, nothing bad. The burger's taste slightly stuck out (not bad seasoning). The fries were of the thick cut kind (not a personal favorite), but lightly salted to taste. The biggest thing that erked me was the service concept. The lighting is left on - down low - so the servers can see where they're walking, and where the patrons are sitting. It caused distractions when the people next to us were having conversations/ordering, smack dab at the high points of the movie. Also, our server said he would bring the check halfway thru the show. Ha :( He brought it at the pivotal, shocking conclusion and I MISSED IT. I was filling out the bill, so I wouldn't have to wait after the show was over. UGH!!! I have no intentions to attend future movies here. Of course, there are bound to be exceptions, but... Definitely did not leave on a pleasing note.

Great place to see a film, but with several odd circumstances worth noting: It is a maze on par with that Maze Runner film that was ironically showing while we were there. I don't mean mildly confusing. I mean I was concerned about letting a child in our party go to the lobby restroom because I was certain he would never have found his way back. Signage, please. The recent massive renovation seems misguided. The gray scale interior prompted a visitor to Columbus to remark, "This place looks like an Eighties airport." Indeed it does. And it seems grungy. Not sure why...it's all new, but the appearance was oddly filthy. Every seat has a call button for food service, which is great. But inside the theatre, we only saw a bar for walk up service. If there was a snack area, we sure didn't see it. Of course, we were navigating a maze. The personnel, from the ticket booth to the servers were fantastic. Super helpful and happy, but you could tell they were frustrated that most of their time is spent guiding folks through the building while they'd rather be getting their work tasks done. For movie theatre food pricing, this place was not bad. Also, still $1 parking validation at the attached garage. I will return, but I may leave a trail of bread crumbs to find my way out.

It seems like everyone else has had a bad time here, but I've been here twice since the remodel and have no complaints really. I don't care about the decor of a movie theater, because I'm there to see a movie. The first time I was here, I drank and ate at the bar, because the theater wasn't ready yet. Then we moved inside. Everything was fine, service was good from the bartender and the wait staff in the theater. As far as the seats go, I thought they were perfectly normal theater seats. I'm small so I guess a tray that moves doesn't really block me from getting in and out. I could complain that the margaritas I had were not strong, but I really didn't expect movie theater margaritas to knock me out. The last time I came here it was on a Sunday. So, free meter parking on the street, and only about two other people in the theater. It was perfect.

My heart is broken. I loved the Arena Grand before it closed down to convert to SMG. It was easy to get to (still is), everyone was friendly (they still are), and the theaters themselves were great (they kinda still are). So - why is my heart broken? Well, I guess the magic that was the Arena Grand is lost. SMG has taken the spacious seats out and replaced them with cramped little things that are hard to get in and out of. Simply put - the seating is awkward. You have to move the tray out of the way to get up but then have to move it back to get out... which means you are standing in front someone. It certainly doesn't compare with the experience of other dine-in movie theaters in the area. Then, everything feels a little cheap. The seats do not feel high-quality and the "push button for service" box looks like an after thought carelessly screwed on at the last minute. On two occasions, the table squeaked so loudly that I was embarrassed to move it during the movie. I'll be fair, I haven't seen a movie in either of the two largest theaters yet... just the ones in the back and #3 which is right as you come in. Going to the theaters in the back require you to pass by the open kitchen. You feel like you are invading their workspace. The hall to the back theaters also has carpeting left from the original Arena Grand. Talk about making a guest feel like they don't care about you... this carpet says "we cared so little about these back theaters, we couldn't bother to replace the old, dirty carpet when we remodeled." I'm sorry that I am not there to see the movie in theater 5... but I do believe I am paying the same amount for the ticket, right? The service is a bit awkward. Everyone is nice... but it often feels like they do not know what is going on. When you order something, the person bringing it often seems like they don't know exactly where the person is who ordered it. Which is odd since each seat is numbered. They should know exactly who ordered it. The bills are usually odd too. For some reason, they don't ask before about checks... then assume a group of friend together is on one bill - which feels odd to me. Wouldn't it be easier to either a) ask before the movie starts or b) just bring each seat a check? I feel like I need to end this with positives - their matinee prices are awesome. The sounds is great. And the projection quality is what you want it to be. I love that I can get in and out pretty quickly - even though the experience is a shadow of what it used to be. RIP Arena Grand.

We stopped by SMG last night for the Yelp Arena District party and felt that this place more than any other participating restaurant in the area really rose to the occasion. Other participating restaurants seemed less interested in the event almost like it was a burden whereas SMG was very excited to have the exposure and again very much rose to the occasion. The entire staff was extremely welcoming - even doing the little things like opening doors for guests, thanking people for stopping by, and guiding everyone upstairs to the complimentary food and drinks. These sound easy, but we didn't experience anything else like this at other stops. Our group all agreed that our experience at SMG was good enough to warrant us stopping by in the future to catch a movie especially with the Groupon specials they seem to run fairly frequently.

I was very hesitant to go to this theater after reading some of the reviews for 3 main reasons. (1) I am very picky about my movie experience, (2) I am very picky about service, & (3) I am very picky about food. Nonetheless, we were downtown and it was convenient, so I went. The theater was clean. The seats were very comfy. I am 290 pounds and played collegiate football. If I am comfortable, then anyone should be. I will say that the tables that are attached to the seats could be bigger. I definitely like the fact you can pick your seat when you buy your tickets. The service was perfect. Our food was brought out in a timely fashion and any special requests were catered to promptly. I had zero issues with the service. The staff was polite from the first person we encountered coming in the door, to the last one who thanked us for coming as we walked out. The food was good. Nothing extraordinary. My wife and I had pizza and it was good. Not great, but they are a movie house, not a pizza shop. So it was good. Our 3 year old had chicken tenders that were great. She also had fruit that was fresh and delicious. The food is a bit pricey, but it was at a movie theater, so we expected that. Overall, it was a fantastic experience. I can't wait to go back.

Just went to a movie yesterday and was shocked on how bad this theater has declined! Arm rests were ripped up and cup holders had some kind of build up caked in them. Servers and bartenters were nice but food took over 30mn to be served. Also, bathrooms were disgusting! This used to be one of my favorite theaters to visit with my kids. Not sure that I will be back...

There is too much activity at this theater. Food being ordered, eaten, dropped, etc. I just want to watch the movie. Also, they are rude. They sell Groupons all the time and suddenly changed policy to you can't use them on Friday or Saturday. I heard, "We changed policy. It is in the fine print now." Avoid if you can.

Been here a couple of times without incident. Went for a free screening of a movie which they completely overbooked. People were upset. I get that it's not their fault but they should be prepared to handle the situation. The manager was REALLY REALLY rude to the lady in front of us and then us. Super bad attitude. No one should be treated this way. I won't go back.

We used to enjoy the old Arena Grand movie theater, and we like the whole dine-in movie concept (we frequent the Movie Tavern), so a brand new dine-in movie theater in downtown Columbus? Sounds good. On top of that, we snagged a discount on Groupon. You would think that we'd love it. Unfortunately, their horrible staff ruined the whole experience. My review is going to be kinda long and ranty, so for those of you that want a quick summary: TRUST ALL THE OTHER REVIEWS THAT SAY THE STAFF/MANAGEMENT HERE IS HORRIBLE! Some of the rudest, most unprofessional staff I've ever encountered anywhere. For those of you who live in an apartment complex where the office manager is a total jerk, it's a very similar, painful experience. Save yourself the pain and go to the Movie Tavern if you want a dine-in movie experience. Now my full review... first the good: Their theaters are nice, and the seats are comfortable. I'm not really an audiophile, but their sound equipments sounds great too. Their food is what you would expect from a place like this. The price also seems on-par with Movie Tavern though, which is surprising given their higher-rent location. Now, the bad: The "tables" that they have in the theaters are similar to the desks that you sat in high school/college. As in, totally not big enough considering you might be ordering a meal and a pitcher of beer. Parking is $1 if you get your parking ticket validated... not much, I know, but still, no other theater in town charges for parking, so that's a negative. They have assigned seating. On the surface, this seems like a good idea. Then the girl at the box office assigned us to a seat closest to the entrance/exit door. Even though the theater was half empty. My wife didn't really like that, so she went back out to the box office to request a seat change but was denied. Apparently, you need to show them your Groupon again before they'll change your seat. Except the girl at the box office forgot to tell us not to hit the "redeem" button on the Groupon until after the movie. Having purchased our tickets already, we had already pressed redeem, making it impossible to bring that particular Groupon back up. My wife tried to reason with the girl to no avail (I mean, it's obvious we paid for the movie one way or another, considering the ticket stubs that we possessed), so a manager got involved. The manager wasn't very helpful either. He refused to switch our seats (once again, despite the half-empty theater) while the cashiers at the box office audibly snickered at my wife in front of other customers. In the end, my wife returned to the theater in tears. Great start to the movie. Despite their stubborn refusal to switch our seats, they did nothing to police random guests (who just got out of other movies apparently) from coming in and out throughout the entire movie. And of course, our seat being by the entrance/exit, they would walk by/in front of us every time and disturb us. Their servers seemed to come in and out a lot more often than they do at the Movie Tavern as well. Kinda disruptive... once again, especially if you are forced to sit by the entrance/exit door. After the movie ended, we left feeling pretty disgusted. Could we have ignored the assigned seats and just moved ourselves to a different seat? Probably. I wish we had. Does this theater punish rule abiding patrons? Definitely. We don't plan on coming back here anytime soon. SMG probably should realize that they're not the only game in town, and they can't compete with such an incompetent, unprofessional set of staff working it.

I bought some groupons for this place because I liked the concept and heard it was cool. It was terrible every time I went. The food was slow, wrong and expensive. Once the sound was messed up and they never fixed it. They generally come with the check at the climax of the movie, it's very distracting. One time we ordered French fries and they charged extra for ketchup. We ended up getting a lot of free tickets from them as apologies for our bad experiences, but we gave them back because we couldn't take it anymore. It's terrible. Don't go there.

I came here today trying to catch the new X-men movie but arrived too late. I had been told this theatre had closed but come to find out they had apparently re-vamped instead. I like this theatre quite a lot although I think it gets overlooked sometimes. I used to live within walking distance of it. It used to have a cafe that you could order food and take it into the movie with you but now it's updated to where you can actually order while inside the theatre! This is perfect because I'm hungry and thought I would have to settle for just popcorn lest I miss the trailers. Ok now that I have tried the seat side service at the theatre I went ahead and added a star to my original rating just because they literally deliver everything right to you. Including your popcorn. No more waiting in line for popcorn and jujubees!! I will say the quality of the food was about bar level( good bar, like Applebee's or something not dive bar) There is also a super extensive adult beverage selection including something called an adult milkshake that sounds absolutely yummy! There is also wine( another plus ) and the regular beer although I do believe most of it is at least tap instead of canned or bottles.

The idea of movie theaters now serving full meals and alch. to your seat is amazing! The seats them selves are extremely comfortable too. However, last week I did order food for the first time, soft pretzels with queso cheese, and the pretzels were SO stale I could barely bite in to them. Understood this is a move theater first, and food secondly, but I was still expecting something edible... As for the beverages, they have a ton of options but can be a bit pricey! But they do have great promotions daily.

My experience here was...mixed. The food was decent, the seats were comfy, and the movie (Guardians of the Galaxy) was great. However, the theater I was in was having audio issues during the entirety of the previews, which not only led to us missing out on the previews but also caused the movie to start late. I understand that tech glitches happen sometimes, but the part that was really off-putting to me was the lack of communication from those in charge. We all basically just sat there for fifteen minutes or so doing nothing while they presumably were trying to fix the issue without any real acknowledgement. That being said, I imagine (or at least hope) that sort of thing doesn't happen too often, and I would probably go back in the future.

If you're not a fan of movie dining, you won't like this theater any better. But if you've ever been to Movie Tavern in Hilliard and hated it, this will be a breath of fresh air. Unlike Movie Tavern, YOU CAN SEE YOUR FOOD. There's no extra lighting, but unless you are watching a pitch black movie you can clearly see your food from the light of the movie screen. The chairs are insanely comfortable, and along with a tray with button for waiter service there is also a cupholder. Go on a weeknight for the best experience, and if you can go to a movie that has been in theaters for awhile you will have the entire theater to yourself. The ticket prices are very reasonable. Most entrees are $9-12, alcoholic milkshakes are $8, regular milkshakes about $5, and there are daily drink specials ($5 margaritas on Mondays, $5 big beer cans on Thursdays, etc.). The food isn't anything spectacular, the meat and veggies probably come frozen and precooked in bags but I think they make their french fries fresh. The cheesy fries are sooooo good. Only other downside is that it can take a long time to get your food. Expect at least a 30 minute wait.

  • Michelle S.

I had good customer service here, the waiter and the ticket person at the window was nice. There's a lot of cons here. The food is plain, it's not horrible but not yummy, the tables are tiny, and space is tight. It'd be easy to get up and move your swivel tray and knock the person in the next row up the head. I would come back but I prefer Hilliard movie tavern and amc.

It's not the worst, but I have been to better. The idea of dinner and drinks with the movie is great, but the execution is just awkward. The food is not the best, suggest eating before and the drinks are a little pricey, but comparable to other restaurants in the Arena District....so expensive. I go to this theater because of the location and not much else.

This is my first and probably last experience at any Studio Movie Grill. There were only 9 people in our theater total. All of the people in my party (4 of us), ordered before the previews had even started. It took over an hour to get my meal after asking twice about the status. Everyone else already had finished their meals way before I received mine. The manager did make it right by comping the meal and offering free movie passes. We appreciate his actions.

Good concept. Reasonable matinee price. Food was decent...BUT, server put her finger in our spinach dip, said she'd bring a replacement but never did. Also, another server spilled our margarita pitcher on my fiancée's lap. Lastly, they tried to give us someone else's bill (with their credit card) for payment.

The theater is updated, clean, comfy seats. Ticket prices are reasonable. I don't recommend eating popcorn here or ordering anything of the alleged "fine dining" menu. It's all awful and pricier than a typical AMC theater.

Went to see the latest X-Men movie at SMG on a weekend afternoon last week. It's the first time I'd been back to the old Arena Grand since the remodel. In the main hall, there are some cosmetic changes, new bar, etc. Otherwise it looks like most of the theater rooms are where they were before, although ours (#4) was down a back hall that didn't appear to be remodeled; looked more like a service entrance. Theater: Assigned seating is both a blessing and a curse. In our case the place wasn't crowded, which was good b/c Rojo Grande must have some elbow and leg room! The seats themselves seem unusually small, and the seat table does not nothing to help this when deployed in food/drink mode. There are some *big* film fans in Cbus, and I have to question whether they'd be able to fit in these seats. Movie display/sound quality was very good; they must have at least upgraded the sound in our theater. Food/Drink: No complaints. Beer selection is decent, not too far to the crafty side but should be enough to suit anyone. The food menu seems ambitious, and since I kept it simple for my food selection, can't really comment. Maybe an update next time out. There are a few inexpensive selections; compare the small popcorn here to other movie joints. Food service happened in a reasonable time but again the place was mostly empty; unlike Hilliard's Movie Tavern, they actually encourage you to 'push the button' (see pic). Parking: The old validate-for-a-buck thing with the garage has changed, but not sure how. The ticket girl said to just present the parking card at the gate; and when we left, they said "thanks!" and didn't ask for money. So... hmm. Overall, I'll probably be back to SMG, but it may not be my first choice with those scrunched seats.

Went to the yelp event a couple months ago and had a great time stopping by this location. Coconut chicken tenders was good. Queso dip was yummy. Bar upstairs was good and clean. Bartender downstairs provided great service. Haven't checked out a movie here for a year now but would go back if I was in the area - just not convenient for where I live.

Update: Have to pay $2 at the register to valeted parking. Yes it does add up but with a groupon deal it's still more affordable than then the big name theaters. The leather chairs are super comfortable and swivel table with cup holders this my preferred theatre in Columbus.

It's fine. Pretty comfortable, not a ton of leg room for tall people. Overpriced beer but it IS a movie theatre after all. It was fine. Nothing great.

By far one of the worst movie theater experiences ever. I had to wait at least 15 minutes to order my soda and that was wrong. The popcorn was over cooked and there was not butter in sight to put on it. The only reason I'm giving it a 1 star is because there is not an option for 0 stars. Worst theater in Columbus and the people working there seemed incompetent.

PROS: My refund was received without any teeth pulling. CONS: Literally everything else. I went to see Guardians of the Galaxy opening weekend and the theatre I was put in was the smallest screen in the entire building and had aprox. 14 seats. The seats were designed by a leatherbound masochist with no regard for comfort. They also reworked the layout of the seats so that there is a row directly next to a sticky, sugar rubbed walled. When I left the theatre an usher tried to explain that the well is perfect for laying my head on - I would have accepted this except I have dignity and I'm not going to rest my head on some disgusting theatre wall to make some dude happy. None of that even compares to the general feel of the whole thing which is essentially the "Microwaved Hungry Man Dinner" of movie theatre experiences. You sit in what is essentially adult versions of a baby's high chair, complete with a sticky, unclean "table" that rotates around in front of you. There is a stupid button that you push and some "waiter" enters the theater and takes your order VERBALLY. Let that sink in. "Hey you're watching Schindler's List and trying to pay attention? Too bad. Joe Schmo wants a Double Fat Burrito and here at Studio Movie Grill we lack foresight." Before the movie they played a message to turn off your cellphones so you don't disrupt the movie for others, but they forget the fact that their entire business model is built on disrupting the entire experience so some slugs can get their mediocre Chicken Florentine Pizza. Not only that, but 40% of the wait staff had their cell phones out during the movie because they can't be assed to remember someone's popcorn order. I don't know who this theater is for, I really don't. It's as much of a movie theater as OSU Campus is an Amusement Park. The basic functions it fails to do (give me a huge screen to watch my dumb movie on during opening weekend) and yet the higher functions (serving food to a bunch of expectant yuppies) fail nearly as hard. Worst movie theater experience I've ever had. I'm easy to please. I never ask for refunds but this whole thing was so stupid and the execution was so inept that I couldn't in good conscious give them fifteen dollars. I immediately went to Gateway and was satisfied because I was able to watch a movie on their biggest screen without some tool yelling his burrito order. Support Local Theaters, don't go to this chain.

This place rocks. I walked in there and had four huge chocolate chip cookies and a mint chocolate ship milkshake during a movie in a super comfy chair. Night made

Seeing a movie and eating a meal sounds like the best idea ever... But I would suggest keeping those two separate! This theater is great, but while eating and others around you are enjoying their dinner.. Things become very distracting. The servers walking around and your neighbors chewing- just isn't meant for the movies in my opinion. The food wasn't bad (nothing special) if you do choose to combine the two but I suggest keeping your dinner and a movie separate!

We finally go to see the new iteration of a theater we went to alot in the old days. The movie we wanted to see was sold out, front row seats only; so we left. After chatting up the very friendly ticket window staff, they told us to "buy online the next time. Choose your seat, like an airplane and you can use coupons and get the senior discount, a very generous 55". So we do that next time. All was seemingly flawless until we check out and we noticed the 1.50 per ticket fee! Come-on, on a 5$ ticket, that's 30%. Give me a break. Counter productive to move people to the website then gouge them on fees. That's why we hate Ticketmaster. Anyway, the place is bright and sparkly as you can imagine. Lots of friendly staff all over. We had trouble finding our theater, and quickly asked. We were escorted by a staff member. We walked by the kitchen on the way to our seats. Since the signage is poor, I'm not sure we would have found it on our own. Service is gentle and quick in the theater. Prices for food and drinks are not exorbitant and it was interesting to be served. I'm not sure I liked it, but it is different. Years of going to a theater will have to change, I think I can do that. The seats are huge and comfortab But can you do something about those stupid fees!

This was absolutely the worst theater experience I've ever had. I understand that the place was packed, however, if you can not handle to properly serve every individual in your theater, perhaps you should rethink your maximum capacity. We ordered the 2 for $25 and never received our food! We did get the appetizer, an hour and a half into the movie, and I'm pretty sure the pretzels had been sitting out for that entire 120 minutes. They were cold and hard and the cheese was dry. I couldn't tell you how the entrees were because we never received them. Had to go to Boston's next door since we were starving. Go to Movie Tavern or AMC Easton.

This place appears to be running a scam!!! A friend and I came here for movie night... we both ordered chicken tenders and drinks. In the middle of the movie I was given a bill, and without looking I simply handed over my check card. They ran the card and I added the obligatory 20% tip. It wasn't until I got home that I questioned... How the F did two chicken tender baskets, a soda and one bar drink total over $60??!! Of course my receipt had no breakdown of the bogus charges the server added to my bill, so I called the theatre. I was put into the manager's voicemail. Then again, again and again... When management refused to return one single phone call, I went to the theater with my receipt in hand and asked to speak with the manager. The manager of course apologized, took my receipt and phone number, and promised me that he would correct the charge within a day. That never happened. So bottom line, if you do go here... Make sure they aren't adding someone else's food or bar tab to your bill. And keep in mind that management at this theater is a complete failure. Clearly incapable of doing their jobs like returning a phone call, responding to customer complaints and fixing billing errors. There are way better theaters in Columbus. (The Gateway probably being my favorite.) Stay AWAY from this disaster!!!

Studio Movie Grill has turned my favorite theatre into a heaping pile of chaos. The upset and emotional side of me wants to immediately give this place one star, but the pragmatic side knows it really isn't all that bad. Here's the deal... Arena Grand was my *favorite* theatre in Columbus. It was a quick, five-minute drive from my house, the people were always friendly, and everything was really local--especially for a movie theatre. I mean, c'mon, they had Jeni's. Well fast forward eight months or so, and Studio Movie Grill has taken over. I was so hopeful for the best, but alas... Let's talk about what's not working: *The interior - What the eff? It's a big gray blob. Don't get me wrong, I love gray and modern, but this place just feels cheap and cold. I mean, it's a movie theatre. Something should resemble a movie theatre, right? And they kept the crappy old carpet in the back! How does a company take ~8 months and make a place look worse? Well, SMG has succeeded. *The theatres - If you're like me and think dining theatres look similar to AMC's, then you are going to be in for a rude awakening. The chairs are uncomfortable, and they're super tight. The dining trays are tiny, but they are hugely obstructive when you're trying to escape your seat. Everything about it screams "CHEAP!" *The food - No local here. How hard would it have been to carry something local? Maybe some Watershed? Maybe some Jeni's? And if you're not going to offer something local, then the food and drinks need to be killer. I had the coconut chicken tenders and fries, and they were pretty horrible. I couldn't even eat them. They were so sweet! I came with 4 friends, and everything was pretty hit or miss. Well, I should really say everything was okay or miss. *The cleanliness - How does a brand new place already seem dirty and unkempt? How does the men's room have a gigantic sea of urine for more than an hour? Okay, bitching aside--not everything was terrible: *Service - Everyone we encountered was very sweet. They were a hot mess though. Everybody was running around like chickens with their heads cut off, and nobody seemed to know what they were doing. Almost everybody's food order in my party was wrong, and some were so bad that their meals were comped. I actually felt really bad for all the staff--I know they were really trying, and they genuinely wanted our experience to be good. #sadness *Price - $7.50 for tickets? Yes, please. Sign me up. *Parking - It's still great garage parking that's only $1 with validation! Ugh. I'm so disappointed in SMG. They took a beloved, local theatre and kinda ruined it. They had such an opportunity to enhance the experience, but they totally detracted instead. I will probably give it another shot since it is so close and it's pretty inexpensive.

So, I've been here twice. I think it's a very nice looking theatre. It doesn't smell like another food-serving-theatre that I know of. And staff is very nice. It's just that... delivering food during a movie is distracting. Smacking and scraping dinnerware for the last bits of food is also distracting (you ate it all- let it go!). So... I dunno... the idea of dinner and a movie together needs to be re-worked. But the theatre itself is great. And parking at the nearby garage is free with validating parking. I just wish the garage was attached to the theatre. I tend to get a little lost and it's kinda scary in there.

I have been to their Charlotte location and looked forward to their new location in Cbus. Opening wknd: I brought my 2 canned goods & enjoyed a movie. I want them to succeed but comparing this location to my previous SMG experience - oh boy. .. lot to strive for. Prices: $7.25 for off peak evening shows. $10.25 regular evening showtime. Reasonable and fair! Food: N/A on this visit.. sorry yelpers - I let you down by not sampling food. Service: Partly driven by patrons showing up minutes before showtime, food kept arriving 15 min into the movie which was distracting because at least 40% of the orders went to the wrong people. At least 2 orders had entrées came out before appetizers. Fixtures: If you are sitting in rows I or J, bring a flashlight to read the menu. There are no lights back there. Seats are thin slimline with width of an airplane seat and cushion like an office chair. Again, big downgrade compared to their Charlotte location where seats are 25% larger. Scheduling: They have to get better at timing their movies and as patrons have better understanding that they need to arrive early, it will get better. But it should not take 10 min for someone to come take orders before the previews start.

So bad, I am surprised there was not a riot. 45 minutes to get a drink, and at least 80% of the theater never received food. The servers just disappeared and two poor guys - not the servers - tried to collect payment for the undelivered food. Many, many upset people. Complete failure.

Everything Tim and Bryant said is spot-on. I want the Arena Grand back. It was our favorite place for a movie night and the new place is just not good. I was uncomfortable during the whole movie. The seats aren't great and I felt blocked in with the trays. There were a few things on the menu that sounded good, but we only got popcorn and beer. The popcorn comes in a basket and was super salty. The couple in front of us got a bottle of wine, which was served with nice stemless glasses, but we can get that at home. :-) Tickets are pricy: $10.25 each plus a $3.00 booking fee. It appears that weeknight tickets are cheaper than weekend night. One thing I didn't think about when I chose our seats online is that if you get 2 in the middle, that row ends up with single seats on each end. The guy next to me came with 2 friends and they had to sit in front of each other instead of next to each other. There are a lot fewer seats in these new theaters. I also think it would suck to be a server here because you have to crouch down coming and going during the movie and work in the dark. The pros: It is nice to reserve seats online, our server was personable, and they kept the $1.00 parking, a great perk.

  • Jym S.

I made reservations and purchased 2 seats. Unforseen circumstances prevented us from using them. I called for 4 days straight and left messages for both the manager and the box office. Finally, I did what I should have done in the first place and researched the answer. I found out that they were non refundable, I understand that. What I don't understand is why I was totally blown off. Spend millions on rebuilding the theater yet, the service isn't as good as the dollar cinema. I use to go all the time but, the lack of service convinces me that my business and also movie night for my company won't be at SMG. If you want service go somewhere else.

Some good, some not so good. Staff was very friendly, if not always actually very helpful. The theatre was nice, comfy seating, but the tiny tables were pretty awkward though, with no option of folding away so you had to kind of squeeze in. The movie screen and sound was awesome, and the 3D was incredible as usual. The food was surprisingly good, and not as overpriced as I feared. (Check out their entire menu online.) We did 2 for $25 - split an appetizer and two entrees. You can get any burger with a black bean veggie patty which was awesome, and their seasoned fries were yummy, too. Not so great - the restrooms were completely out of all paper towels, so women were left wiping their hands on their pants or shaking them off. Most of the stalls were out of toilet paper too (thank god I checked!). And this being a Wednesday, I just thought - how busy could they be?! We arrived early and ate dinner at the bar which I highly recommend. They were a bit scattered and didn't seem to know how to handle the large screening crowd, which I don't fault them for. I don't know why they didn't let people right in so they could begin ordering, instead of making us wait in line for an hour and then go in with only 15 minutes before the movie started. People were looking at menus with flashlights, it was kind of silly. Also, with a packed theatre (free screening) the kitchen was quite backed up and I never received my water. Bonus - the parking kiosk was broken, so that was free (but would have only been $1). Don't forget to bring your ticket inside to get it validated though - if you forget its like $7!

I've been to Studio Movie Grill in another state many times before I moved here. I really enjoyed it, so I thought the Columbus Studio Movie Grill would be the same. It's not. I will say that the movie quality itself is good, and the price is good, which is why I have given two stars instead of one. But everything else was terrible. Upon walking in, the layout is chaotic. The service was abysmal. In my entire life, this is probably the second or third time I've given a very small tip for poor service. We had already eaten dinner, so my family and I ordered drinks, popcorn, and dessert. The drinks and popcorn came, but we waited on the dessert for close to an hour. My husband had to ask about the dessert, and the waitress looked very confused and said it would be out. It was probably another 20 min, and the movie was almost over. We didn't get our bill until the movie was about to end and had to sit and wait for it to be processed for 10 min after all the lights came on, as did half the theater. This was never, ever a problem at the other Studio Movie Grill. Lastly, when they brought the receipt, they didn't leave a pen, so I had to dig in my bag and find a crayon to sign the receipt with. Terrible. I'm not sure if we will give it another shot or not.

Worked here for about a month as a server and was generally humiliated and disgusted to be a part of something so horribly unprofessional and unsanitary. Wouldn't eat or watch a film here again if they paid me.

The only reason to go here are the cheap tickets on Groupon, which people have already mentioned. Went to see a movie this past weekend, there were maybe twelve people in our theatre, definitely not what I would call an overwhelming crowd. My friend ordered a burger and a glass of wine, I got an adult milkshake. Luckily for me, they forgot my tab altogether, which is the only reason this is getting two stars instead of one. The burger took 45 minutes to come out - it was decent. The wine never came. We asked three different servers about it, they all replied they would check and never returned. The glass of wine finally came an hour and a half into the movie. They brought the complete wrong tab, which we also had to ask three different servers about, and the issue wasn't resolved until after the movie was over. The waitress seemed brain dead. Only come here if you're looking for a bargain, otherwise skip it and head to one of the many other dine-in theatre options in town.

Movie and theater itself were fine, food was ok. Poorly trained server took order and then came back to explain order "disappeared" when he swiped my card. He redid the order and assured me the manager cancelled first order. SURPRISE--I was charged double!! Management still hasn't returned my phone call so now letting the credit card company handle it. May visit again for the movie, but NEVER making a food purchase again.

What a unique and stellar experince we had at SMG arena grand. Its a re do of the old arena grand movie theater and they really steeped it up. New arcitecture and super hospitable staff. The interior is cool with a upscale feel. The "vibe" was pretty hip for a movie theater. There was a dj and lots of people eating and drinking in the lobby and upstairs bar. I can honestly say it I never thought a movie theater could be a place I would hang out at. I was wrong. As for the movie experince it was very comfortable in the leather chairs and service was prompt. The food was way better than we expected. Kind of like casual restaurant fare. Overall great experince. We will definently return.

I found the food and drink service distracting. I want to enjoy the movie experience with surround sound, comfortable seating and big screen. I DID have all that in addition to people talking about wanting pizza and whether the drinks they ordered were frozen or on the rocks. And when then got to hear them complain about the wait - which was not long at all. This is not my ideal movie experience, but may be someone else's.

Reason for Visit: Movie. :) Strengths: - They have Groupon deals frequently. Opportunities: - Box Office needs to open on time. I like to get my tickets early. - Serving staff are harried and inconsistent. - There are four seats per sections. Inconsiderate couples will take the two middle seats in hopes that nobody sits next to them. Please prevent this.

My experience was terrible. They seated the movie 5 minutes before it started so the wait staff was trying to take orders well into the movie. Most of the staff struggled visibly (and sometimes audibly) to find the right patron. I also got to witness the staff struggle with the iPhone app they use to take orders (mentioned in other reviews). When my food order came I realized I needed some sauce with it. I put on my light and someone said they'd have it out soon. 20 minutes later no one showed so I lit my server light again. This time it took the staff about 20 minutes to get to the light. My food was officially cold. I again asked for sauce, they took the order. Later they started handing out checks. I saw 2 undelivered sauces on my bill. After leaving the (not great) film I talked to the bartender about my bill to find out they've been out of the sauce I asked for all night. Eesh! Aside from that stuff, the alcohol is waaaaay overpriced and under-poured, the overhead house lights are on medium for the whole movie, and I don't get the impression that this was just an 'off' night. I won't be using the free tickets they gave me (in leu of the refund I should have gotten instead for the food) Go to Movie Tavern instead.

The movie theatre is definitely up to speed with the rest. I thought it was kind of different when we bought our tickets, we had to choose where we were going to sit in the theatre. Kind of like having assigned seating. Hmm. Anywho. We were in the front section, but not too close not to be able to see. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. Will go back again.

Food is great! It's a little pricy, but almost all movie theaters are. The chairs aren't as comfy (not recliners), but overall servers are nice and it's a good experience.

Before the renovations, this was a pretty decent place to catch a film. But now, not so much. The walls of the place are now rather sparse, like they didn't finish setting up the place. Our movie was set to start at 11pm, so we did the usual: arrive 20 minutes early to purchase tickets and find seats. BUT, we weren't allowed to go in yet (still cleaning?) despite the film starting in ~5 minutes. It's now a "pick your seat" system like the new AMC's, which I didn't mind. I don't usually order food/drinks at theatres, so I don't have much to say about that. The patrons who sat around us were enjoying the food service, but the problem with that was it made the servers walk back and forth every 5-10 minutes....seriously, like they provided a constant stream of distraction. Probably won't come back here again. I'd rather save the money and head up north to AMC Dublin where the seats are sofas and I can enjoy the film without seeing silhouettes of heads walking back and forth.

Horrible experience. We told them it was our first time there and they left a terrible impression. We waited over an hour before receiving our food, and we had to ask two servers where our food was. Service was very disappointing. As soon as our food was delivered, 20 mins to the end of the movie, we were presented a check at full price without any kind of apology. I will definitely stick to Movie Tavern from now on, the food and the service are great there.

Great first experience at the new Studio Movie Grill! The remodel is nice - lobby is smaller to make room for larger kitchen, I think. The theater seats are comfy leather with cup holders that keep you drinks cold, and swivel desk tops (not a ton of space for food). We experienced excellent customer service from beginning to end - multiple people told us about the food/drink specials, bartender brought water over to us while we waited for our theater to be ready (we were early), friendly, informative employees everywhere. The food was delicious, which was honestly a pleasant surprise. I expected it to be mediocre and over priced (like another dine-in theater in town) but it was hot, fresh, and great! I had the coconut chicken sliders which were crispy, a little sweet, and super flavorful, with French fries - loved it, and will be craving it again soon. Husband had the chicken quesadilla which he said was delicious - classic, with the perfect balance of bell peppers and cheesiness. We also had popcorn which was pretty good, not the best theater popcorn I've had - could be fresher. My husband is a stickler for sound and picture quality and was pleased with both (I agree, I just don't care as much as he does). Overall I have to give it a 5 even though the popcorn was just ok. I was wowed by the customer service which what moved me to write a review - just had to rave about it! Note from reading other reviews: yes, the servers walk around in the theater and have to talk to the other patrons occasionally, and that is just how dine-in movie theaters work - in case you've never been to one. If you are worried about being distracted during a highly anticipated film or one that requires your undivided attention, maybe don't choose a dine-in theater (this is truly just meant to be a helpful tip - hope it doesn't sound snarky or sarcastic).

Well the movie was supposed to start 5 minutes ago and they have all of us sitting in the lobby because apparently the theater isn't clean. The communication from management to the people waiting is very poor. Also the bathrooms were pretty gross. One sink with plumbing just laying inside with a scrawled note about it being out of order. Seats were comfortable though

While the food here is OK for what it is, it is rather annoying with the constant movement of the servers. I think I'd rather get my own popcorn and not have people walking in front of me throughout the entire movie.

I'm still up in the air with this place due to this being our first visit. Upon arrival, it was nice to know that if you park in the garage and bring your stub into the theatre, they will give you a stamp of approval to receive $1.00 Parking that you just show when exciting the parking garage. HUGE plus! When we walked in, everything was great, we picked out seats, got our tickets and walked towards the bar. One of the Managers checked our tickets, directed us where we needed to go, and took the time to provide us menus and tell us the special they had for that evening (Drink & Food). The atmosphere was pretty bland, just grey walls, but had a very terrible smell. It smelled like a cross between paint and puke. It was very strange and obviously by my description was not enjoyable. A smell like that made me feel the place wasn't clean, but I didn't see too much problems cleanliness wise. They had a DJ playing at the top of the stairs by the lobby/bar area, which I did not fully understand. It felt like I was in a bar in the Arena District not a movie theatre. I'm still not sure if I enjoyed the bar like feel in a movie theatre. Once we got into the theatre we were escorted to our seats by an employee, which was great. I have never been to a theatre where you have to choose your seats in advance. We began looking at the menu and pressed the button to ask for assistance/ordering. We were immediately helped and ordered our drinks first. My husband ordered a Margarita and for once in his life... Said this was the worst margarita he has ever had! I ordered one of the Mudslide Milkshakes; very very good, but I don't think there was any alcohol. Maybe a shot or less with a lot of ice cream, etc. (Over priced for the amount of alcohol). Once we found we were ready to order food, we were helped very quickly again. We ordered the Quesadilla and Chips & Salsa and the Coconut Chicken Tenders with Sweet Potato Fries. They place all the orders on a handheld device and then have specific/other people serve and bring it to you. Which sounds very efficient, but when all you want is a side of ketchup to dip our fries in... is where this becomes a problem logistically. I requested a side of ketchup and they put it into their device.... JUST got a side of Ketchup. This could have been handled in a matter of 3 minutes or less by the person I spoke with. Well... it took 30 minutes! By this time, I had asked 3 different times for a side of ketchup with 3 different people. I FINALLY got the ketchup, but comically... I had a girl show up 45 minutes later with ketchup! As we left, we had many employees (At least 5) tell us to have a good evening and thanked us for coming, which was great and very appreciative. I'm hoping these are just kinks since they have not been open long, that will eventually be worked out because I don't live far and this would be a good place for us to continue to go to for movies (No movie theatre in German Village).

I want to like the place, but they failed to train our server. He struggled painfully with the app on the mobile device they use rather than pen and paper. The runners brought the wrong food FOUR times. No silverware. The food was poor at best (how do you make a bbq bacon cheeseburger flavorless?) and mostly cold. On their defense, when I talked to the manager afterwards he was very apologetic and made a significant adjustment to our bill. So...maybe let them work out the kinks? I do want to like it, but I'm not sure I'll be back anytime soon.

My wife bought groupon tickets for this new Arena Grande, which specializes in serving dinner and drinks to your seat. The service was always prompt, and it was quite nice that you could order a glass of water for free. We only ordered popcorn and drinks so I can't speak for the food. The experience was also a bit jarring as waiters were often walking up and down the aisles. In the smaller theatres, this was kind of distracting. That said, I haven't been to any other of these dinner theatres so I can't compare. Also, on our second visit we had a poor experience with one of the managers. We ordered our tickets on their website, but for some reason the groupons only applied to one ticket instead of all three, so we were charged full price for two of the tickets. We figured it would be easy to just take care of it when we got to the movie theatre. However, the manager told us there was nothing he could do, as it was our fault that the website didn't work properly. We asked if he could just void the sale and then we could buy the tickets again using the Groupon. He informed he couldn't do that because of company policy. We argued with him and he was kind of rude, and kept informing us whatever happened wasn't "their" fault and instead was ours, and he wouldn't "bend the rules" for us. Luckily, we eventually asked to talk to another manager, who quickly understood and solved the problem. It was fortunate we were extra early, because the entire process took about 30 minutes. I'm not sure if the first manager was just being a jerk or company policy really is to screw their customers, so I am tentative to recommend this theatre to anyone. Since you are charged extra for booking online and reserving seats, and their "policy" is possibly to refuse to help you if there is an error, I would probably not chance it. It's too bad, because my wife and I had a tradition of eating at Ted's (a burger place right next to the theatre) and seeing a movie. Buying tickets to a movie shouldn't be such a stressful experience, so we will probably not be doing that anymore.

Very disappointing. I've been 3 times hoping they'd get it together after opening as SMG. Food quality is marginal at best, service very slow and inconsistent. I really just don't have anything good to say since the re-opening. Love the location but guess I'll do Gateway for now. At least they care.

My husband and I had Promo movie tickets and thought it would be a great idea to go to the movie...since well it was free! The only reason why we stayed is because we had free movie tickets. There was no order to ordering our food and they were WAY under staffed. The poor bartender was the only one tending to roughly 30-40 people. We ordered our drinks and had to reorder them because they were wrong. We arrived at the theater at 7:10 and didn't get to enter into the room until 7:45 (thank goodness for previews). Of course you have to order popcorn when going to a movie...but we regret this choice. The popcorn came out way over cooked and with hardly any butter on it and there wasn't a butter station in site. This was by far one of the worse theater experiences that we have ever had! The only reason why I am rating this a 1 is because there is no option for 0.

My group of friends and I purchased Groupons to see Guardians of the Galaxy at Studio Movie Grill. We arrived early and ordered food before the previews rolled. Sadly, our food did not come out for over an hour. Some was sent back because it was not as requested, some never showed. This is the third and final chance we have given, which is more than fair. Every time we've gone, the service is terrible, they nickel and dime for everything (want ranch instead of honey mustard?) , and we end up having to hang around waiting for our checks after the show is over. We will gladly go elsewhere from now on. Sad to say, these people have ruined Arena Grand.

I'm trying to wrap my brain around what's happening here. It's a state of the art theatre with all the bells and whistles. Why screw that up by trying to be a restaurant as well? There are probably a dozen awesome places to eat within walking distance of this place. Hell, why don't these guys offer manicures and pedicures while we watch as well? Or maybe dog grooming? Anyway, I understand that these places want to suck every cent out of us, but it's distracting and awkward.

I arrived 45 minutes before the start of my selected movie time to find out that all movies within the next 3 hours were sold out. Dissapointed, I left to wait in a very long line to get out of the parking garage and had to pay $3 because the line was longer than ten minutes. I don't think I will attempt to return.

We watched a movie there last night after the fireworks. The servers were pleasant, but the French fries were expensive, overly salted, and freezer burned. And my friend ordered a brownie sundae with all chocolate ice cream. It came with vanilla and chocolate ice cream, and when he sent it back to be corrected, the kitchen just pour chocolate sauce over the vanilla ice cream, definitely hoping in the dark theater he wouldn't notice. In the middle of the movie we didn't wanna cause of us by sending it back again. We did mention that afterwards and they argued with us. Will come back to for the movies but never food.

This is my first visit here. The service sucked. We had a group of 7, and that really threw the server off. He got order correct, but that was about it. We directed the food once it came out. Which sorta took forever. Once it came out, we started wondering where our drinks were. They didn't come until half away through our meal. I felt I needed to really garner my drink because we never got a refill. Other than the service, it was a nice theatre. Seats were comfy and the bass was awesome. If you plan on eating, chose one oft he numerous restaurants in the Arena area.

If I could give it negative stars I would! Thank you to the previous reviewers that warned me! The only reason we decided to still go was we received free pre-screening passes. We figured OK, we're not out anything to check it out. Again, thanks to the previous reviews we decided to skip the food and grab dinner before hand. A VERY good thing we did otherwise we would have starved! We got there and after having to hit the service button twice (cause it automatically turns off after 20 minutes), 35 minutes later someone comes to take a simple drink order. 2 drinks from the bar, the special of the night, and some popcorn, nothing crazy. After 45 minutes and nothing I hit the button again, 20 minutes later someone shows up and I ask where our order is and he says OK I'll check. Sure you will! Nothing! We NEVER got our order! They were fine with bring a check with what we ordered but never the order! We of course didn't pay! The people next to us managed to get their food and their drinks! I don't get it! I've been to the bigger dine-in theaters (Easton) and really enjoyed it. Those are much smaller and easier for the staff to handle. This theater was just WAY to big for the staff to handle, obviously! I will never go back! Spend the extra and get the much better experience, and actually get your order. Oh, and parking validation wasn't $1 it was $2. Why? Who knows with this place!!

What's the point of going to a movie theater that serves food if you never get your order? To start we arrived at the theater and were directed to the wrong showing. No big deal, someone pointed us in the right direction. We found our seats got settled turned on our light and waited for our server. About 10-15 minutes passed and she showed up. We gave her our drink order and food order. I had a water my husband had a mixed drink from the bar. The movie starts and the long wait begins. His mixed drink comes 30 minutes later and what do you know, it's not right. My water is no where in site. I know it's hard to get water. Finally, I get my water, but still no food. The people in front of us came in later, ordered later and received their food, which was cold, sent it back and got a new order and still my husband and I had nothing! Did I mention we never saw our server again? Finally, about midway through the movie my husband gets his drink and again it was wrong. So the movie is coming to an end and some other server starts to give us a check for the food we never received! I told him we didn't get our food and he just shook his head. I get it, it's busy but isn't your business based on serving food while watching a movie? You would think they would have this mastered. We have been there before and even then the food was only mediocre. After this experience we won't be back.

The food is great! What a terrific place to watch a movie. With the new, more comfortable seating, and servers that come to you, why would I go anywhere else? The Movie Studio Grill Arena Grand is the best movie experience in Columbus!

Memi, at the ticket office was friendly and nice enough to tell us how to get deals with Groupon and Facebook for our next visit. The theater seats we comfortable with a built in old school desk style tray attached for your meals to rest on. The service is a little unorganized. My friend ordered a drink and popcorn. They served the drink almost immediately but it took us to push the button three different times to get the popcorn (three different waiters). The mens restroom was a mess with soggy paper towels in the sink and a flood of water sitting on top of the sink to the point my shirt got wet while washing my hands. I told the ladies taking tickets that the restroom needed tending to, she just said, "yeah", and kept conversating with her coworker. SMG, please step your game up and show downtown Columbus you care about your customers.

Was the third and last time we will try this place First time was a train wreck because (we thought) it was the first night. The wait staff clearly had no training or just no clue. Second time was better but overpriced. The last time (today) I noticed there was a $1.00 charge for my drink to be on the rocks. Manager's explanation was it made it a 2oz pour, therefore the extra charge. I always thought 2 oz's of alcohol made it a 2oz pour, who knew? Service is still terrible. 1 diet dr. pepper and 1 bourbon...$16.00. Good thing the movie was free...never again. Can't imagine it will stay in business. Oh yeah, bathrooms were filthy.

This place gets worse by the day. Food is garbage now and so is service. I go in and expect it to be mediocre and they fail at even that. Management does nothing. I went and was in the theater at 6:45 for a 7:15 movie. Ordered food within 10 minutes and only a handful of others sitting there at that point. Our food didn't arrive until almost 8. My sister and brother in law were with us as well and ordered right before us and hadn't even received their appetizer. Food for people who came much later was coming out all around us. This is completely unacceptable. To top that off, once my food did arrive, it came to me incorrectly and had to go back. I have a lot of patience for the service industry since I was previously a server, however this company has completely dropped the ball. After complaining to the server 3 times, I finally went to the manager. He did nothing. We paid for items we didn't even receive. The past 3 times I've been there the bathrooms have been beyond disgusting. I've been in truck stop cleaner than these bathroom. Never toilet paper in half the stalls and the other half over flowing. Feminine disposals spilling over or on the floor. Completely disgusting and unsanitary. This has been the only movie theater I've gone to in over a year and I go out of my way to go to it. It has consistently gone from bad to worse quickly. I used to love coming but won't think twice about not coming back. Don't waste your time and go to movie tavern or a different theater.

Terrible experience. Food order was lost. Had to ask repeatedly for the wine I ordered. After basically giving up hope it arrived 10 minutes before the movie ended. After reordering and finally receiving the food it was disgusting. Very disorganized. We will not be back.

Just like the average review. This is a hit or miss kind of place. I ordered the coconut chicken strips which were very good. When you buy tickets you get to pick the seat which is good or bad. Good of you're early but bad if you are planning to sneak into another movie. Servers or system is kind of new because the server brought us a couple of times dishes that we didn't ordered and was trying to give our dishes and drinks to other patrons he he. I didn't like that they do not turn off the lights all the way. I guess they want people to see what they are eating. In another movie/restaurant place they have little lights in the table. Overall. Food. Good. Service. Ok. Movie. Ok to bad. Of you are going for the movie better pick a different place

The wait staff was really distracting. They got my order wrong twice which made for conversation and questions during a movie I and others around me were trying to watch. Also they dropped off someone else's check for us to pay!

I don't even know where to start with this place.... I started to like it, but recently have had only horrible experience after horrible experience. The new manager, Steve, is rude on another level. Not only did he once treat his associates so poorly in front of customers (including us), but he treated us like crap the next time we came in. They have given us countless amounts of these "free movie passes" to make up for all of the inconveniences we have come across, but 95% of the movies they play are on the "no pass list". Not to mention.... All of the times that I've tried to call them about situations I've dealt with no one EVER answers the phone, and the one time someone actually did.... She hung up on me! I truly wanted to love this place, as it's within walking distance of where I live, and the concept has so much potential, but I have honestly never dealt with such an unorganized and unprofessional establishment in my life. Seriously hoping SMG Arena gets it together so we can enjoy this place again.

Originally from Dallas, where Studio Movie Grill started, I really don't understand what's going on at the once revered Arena Grand turned into a half way AMC dine in theater. First visit was two weeks ago: There's no navigation system of signs to point you to your theater. They have plenty of empty gray space on all the walls to easily add a plasma screen to help navigate guests. We were told to feel free to sit at the bar on the second level where there is a bartender apparently. We waited at the bar for almost 15 minutes before pulling a server aside from her tables. Ordered Baileys and coffee which came out curdled. Replaced with Khalua and coffee which tasted disgusting. Returned the drinks for water. Servers were really nice but seemed to either have never waited tables before or didn't know the theater system. The food runners were confused as to where food went...in a theater full of 5 people. The attached dinner tray is the size of a clip board. The seats are tight and not that comfy. Plus they are all black leather. Upon entering the lit theater, greasy finger prints and smears are completely visible on the seat backs on seats. I had to ask for our seats to be wiped down twice. I resisted writing a review until my second visit. Second visit: Servers were really nice but seemed confused. Asked for plain M&Ms twice, clearly. They brought peanut. Then returned to say they were out of regular. Not a huge deal really. Ordered popcorn and BunchACrunch. Problem solved until the movie starts...the voices in the movie Robocop were muffled and we could barely understand the dialogue. Apparently, the soundboard was fried. They offered us two comped tickets on our way out of the theater after 15 minutes into the movie, which I really didn't want as I don't want to return to this place. What really sucks about this visit is we paid for our snacks, and traveled to Lennox to watch Robocop. I'm actually typing this review from the theater now. Advice: Put up navigation signs Properly train your staff Partner with local brands like Jenis, Watershed, etc.. Don't play a movie in a theater that's not working properly Wipe down all theater seats and backs before each showing If there's an issue, the manager on duty should be handling the customer personally Make sure you have the best food of all local theaters...maybe be the first theater to have a local organic menu. So much large gray wall space everywhere...I see lots of opportunities for signage or projected media. As far as dine in theaters, AMC Easton has Studio beat by a long shot. Studio needs to do something to make up for the small non reclining seats and trays. I think the local organic menu idea could help. We'll see if we return or not. I'll keep an eye on future reviews. I'd like to see this place succeed though. :)

I read the past reviews where they had comments about unimportant things like the colors of the walls or the size of the waiting area... I didn't pay attention to that because I was there to see a movie and eat, not to notice the interior design. So I will first comment on the food! The menu includes a 2 for $25 deal. We shared an appetizer of the chicken nachos. Smaller portion but big enough for two to share and be content. (Nachos, chicken, mild red sauce, lettuce, tomato.. Dipping side or sour cream) After, my boyfriend had the BBQ burger and I had the chicken tenders because I eat like I'm 10 years old. Big portions! I had five tenders (with honey mustard) and lots of fries! They were yummy, but those thick cut fries were so good. Oh and my boyfriend eats anything so I'm assuming the burger was ok. Next- service. We have now been here three times. The first time (we eat a lot) we went on endless pizza night. Our server was awesome. Got to us right after we hit the red light, had water out asap for me then in like five minutes had a beer out for my boyfriend. I thought endless pizza would take forever but we managed to eat 4 during the movie hahah. They get them out fast. The first one is large then after that they are little personal pizzas which is better for my figure. He had our check to us toward the end of the movie, came right back to cash us out and we were set to go. Next time we went, the server was hilarious. They take orders on the little iPod things and his froze up but he was very professional and humorous while he was fixing and apologizing for the delay. Unfortunately, our debit card was misplaced that night but they found it after rounding up the servers and again took care of us and apologized. (This is the chicken nachos night) Last night we went and just shared popcorn. Our server came to us as soon as we put the light on. She took our entire rows order as fast as I've seen and food was out promptly. This server was also professional and friendly. The theatre was full so we unfortunately got the seats right in front of the screen but even that wasn't so bad. View was just fine. Yes the servers move in front of you to serve the entire theatre, never did it bother me enough to miss a scene or even be slightly irritated. They always ducked down, said excuse me and moved quickly. They drop off your check and go like they're on a mission which is appreciated. Overall I think the staff is professional and timely.. The food is great for the price and the theatre chairs are comfortable.

This place is hit or miss completely dependent on the crowd. Despite the warnings, most movies (even a couple of the PG13 and R rated ones) will be filled with parents bringing their 10 year olds. Most of the kids behave, but there's always the one or two that cry, scream, talk or even worst move around non-stop. SMG does not seem to mind these unruly disruptive children despite them clicking on the red button and calling for a server (adding to your labor costs) every 5 minutes. On a weeknight after 8pm this place is beautiful. Its dead silent and you and your buddies will be one of 10~ people in the theater. I'm also not terribly happy with them not honoring a coupon they mailed residents in the Arena District for movies on their "Reserve List" (even 2 weeks after a release). But its the closest theater in the area and they pretty much have a monopoly so I'll still be heading here quite often since its cheaper than driving somewhere else.

While they have a few re-opening issues still, I have to say that I'll definitely be back. Here's my 3x3:. 3 great things: -Ticket prices: We went on their opening night and saw ET for $2 tickets. This is something they say they'll do once a month with old throwback movies like Goonies. Are you kidding with the $2 tickets?? Regular ticket prices are pretty competitive too! -Food: The food was pretty good considering it's a theater. Menu was expansive and they have nice $25 for 2 special. -Service: Ever been to Easton and got super pissed off because you couldn't get service even though you pushed the magic button? Well step away from the dark side. These folks are just waiting for your button so that they can come cater to your every want and need! 3 opportunities: -Remodeling Leftovers: They still have some minor things that didn't quite get done, but I'm sure it won't take long to work through. -Seats: nothing that can be done about these, but they aren't the cushy recliner type chairs at the cinema suites. Now they are pretty comfortable even so; just don't expect a lazy boy! -Beer Selection: I'll preface with 'I'm a beer snob', but I would've liked a little larger craft selection. Overall, I was pretty happy with our experience and believe that it'll only get better as they work through some of the new opening bugs.

My husband and I come here fairly frequently because he has a pass that he bought through a charity auction and because it is the closest theater to our house. The service is disorganized on their best days and downright dysfunctional on their worst. The sad part is that the food is decent...when you actually get what you ordered. We have been willing to overlook a lot at this theater and I usually never complain about places. However, tonight we asked the girl at the podium to validate our parking and she told us to go to the box office. Okay, fine. I asked her if the validation wasn't at the podium just last week. She just abruptly said no, and turned to the next customer in line. Um, actually, yes it was on our last visit. What is the point of skipping the box office line by using the kiosk if you still need to get parking validated? I understand things change, but week to week? And then to have the news delivered with a snotty attitude is finally too much for me. I do not recommend.

The best way to explain the new Studio Movie Grill at Grand View is "if a limo company opened a movie theater". We got amazing customer service before we even got to the main doors. Definitely go there and try any of the burgers.

Terrible experience. Will not attempt to go back. Went 15 min before a scheduled showing of X-Men and the doors were locked. An employee peeked out the door to tell us they CANCELLED the movie bcuz they didn't know how much ticket sales they'd have... on a Saturday night! What a waste of time.

Went for our first and last time to the new SMG theater this past weekend. The service was a nightmare. We got our food quickly but it took 4 servers, a manager and 70 minutes to bring us the two beers we ordered. By the time we got them, we'd already finished our dinner. It seems they don't have anyone to train or manage the serving staff - the whole thing seemed pretty chaotic and we weren't the only ones having problems. They also apparently didn't move the seats during the remodel - the rows are so narrow that the poor wait staff could hardly get through to deliver food and drinks when they actually had them. On top of that, the theater was way too warm, the bass on the sound system was so loud I was in pain, and the food was very middle of the road considering what it cost. It's a shame - I used to really like this theater under the old management. After this experience I can't see me ever going back there.

Five dollar student tickets. I could end the review here. How they afford this service-heavy theater on such prices I have no idea. But they do, and they do so relatively well. Accept the tackiness and enjoy.

Went here the other night and it was awful. We got there early and there were about 7 other people in the theater. We ordered a bottle of wine and after about 15 minutes we asked a server to check on it, still nothing. We asked another server to check on it and finally 30 minutes after we ordered it, it showed up. We ordered (chicken tenders and a steak salad) but people who had gotten there after us were still getting their orders ahead of us. I figured it was taking longer because they were cooking the steak. 35 minutes after we had ordered our food it shows up. The steak was freezing cold. They had cooked everything earlier and then threw it together so there was no excuse for it to take that long. I sent it back because what place serves a steak straight from the fridge?? They assured me they would cook me something fresh. My salad came back 15 minutes later and all they'd done was throw the cold steak on the grill. It was like eating burnt beef jerky. The crappy service and subpar food was enough to ruin the movie for me. I would not go back here.

I really want to like this place. I have been several times and I absolutely hate the service here. I had to ask 5 times for a soda. I was finished with my meal before I finally got my drink. They don't come around and check on you. Very very disappointed.

So to start, the customer service is very good. We started with some dinner at the bar and the food was reasonable. A clear cut above what you may be used to at most movie theaters. My wife had the megaplex burger that was a little dry and somewhat blah but better than I've had in some so called burger joints. If I could make a suggestion to the cook, add some seasoning, cut the accompaniments thinner and focus on making the burger a little juicier. I had the Ceviche and although not raw I thought it was very good. Full of flavor and very satisfying as an entree even though it was on the appetizer menu. I ordered the house cab and as an amateur wine enthusiast thought it was divine. I ended up ordering a bottle even though it was a bit over priced (retail speaking). The theater was great. Seats were comfy with a Pleather type feel and a little bit of reclining. Each seat had a little table that swiveled in and out with a nifty little red button that would call for service from a number of willing servers. The screen was huge and the sound system was awesome. Pop corn was a bit salty but that could be personal preference. This will become a regular place for us. Pros: reserved seating if you want full service at seat fair food and beverages comfy seating Very large screen Great sound system friendly and helpful staff Cons: No 3-D yet Seats on main isle have to deal with servers running across (but worth it) Coat racks would be a nice touch

Used to be my favorite theater........ I am not a fan of the theater/grill combo and SMG hadn't changed my opinion. I am a huge movie fan and don't care for distractions during movies, so these places are a bit of a mess for me. Sad to see a great theater turned into a cheap trend that doesn't promote the healthier lifestyle living downtown tries to sell. My opinion, it is the wrong direction for a downtown theater. Leave the eating throughout a movie to the theaters already in place that provide this experience and keep a great theater downtown. Nothing worse than hearing people chew food during a quiet movie. Pros: ticket price, parking, convenience, friendly staff Cons: diminished movie experience, bar food, distractions, poor seating Skip it and eat dinner before or after the movie

  • Casey S.

Was it worth $50?.... not even close. I felt as if the theater was very pristine and the employees were friendly and professional. However there was an employee specifically, my waiter whom was kind of a creep. He kept eyeing me and upon ordering a pina colada he asked if I wanted the alcoholic version and I stated I forgot my id and he said "I won't tell anyone". It's not a matter of wanting to present my id, I just wasn't a fan of the man's approach. The food was mediocre, much better than the movie tavern but at the same time I felt more expensive. Also none of thr desserts appealed to me and I've got a huge sweet tooth so was disappointed. The pepperoni pizza I ordered reminded me of pizza hut with an almost sweet crust but wasn't too greasy at all. I will forwarn everyone that when you pick your seat, go for f or further back in the alphabet. I made the mistake of choosing seat c and it was entirely way too much to the screen and switching seats was a helleva process.

terrible experience here. we watched a 3D animated film and the credits started to roll...as with many animated films we wanted to sit through the credits to see if there would be a funny little sequence afterwards...that's when 2 people came up to us that were allowed into our theater for the next movie (that wasn't showing for at least 25 minutes)... mind you, we were the ONLY patrons in this particular theater, and these 2 adult bullies DEMANDED that we get up from our seats because the seats belonged to them for the next showing(!!!!) they stood directly above us, staring us down, and would not move until we got up(!) I couldn't even believe this was happening. when we notified management, they did absolutely nothing. we have made numerous calls to complain about this incident and were never able to get through to anybody and they never returned any of our calls after several messages were left. this theater isn't very busy, like ever, and they clearly need repeat business. but with terrible customer service it's clear that this place isn't going to last long. we will definitely not be returning.

bought a groupon for this place just so i could try it out since there is a similar concept at the amc theater in easton. now i see why there were offering the groupon, because this place could do some much better if a - they trained their servers and b - gave guest room between rows of seats. after getting the appetizer, I had to ask for napkins and then right before the movie started, i had to ask for my drink. got my food to only then ask for silverware. the movie started shortly after and at that point i couldn't even see what i was eating. the food was just ok, but for the price, i think the good should be a little better. there is also little variety. they offer salads, sandwiches, pizzas, and appetizers but the choices in those sections is pretty limited. since the movie had started and the poor service i had received up to that point, i thought it was pointless to ask for a refill on my beverage. as for comment b- the kid behind me kept kicking my chair and seeing how she was short, that tells you how little room there was! i think i am going to be sticking with amc when i want dinner and a movie next time. plus it is A LOT closer.

"Can I get you something to eat? Would you like something to drink? Folks, I notice you don't have a menu..." I was here at 2:30 PM, and planned on grabbing a (Good) dinner following the movie. This place makes the movie-going experience awkward if your plan is to separate it from your calorie-intake IMO. (Note- saw plenty of food around me- looked like expected quality, over-priced Applebee's-caliber grub). Seats are "reserved" which is nice, but not soft and cozy like the area AMC ones I'm used to. Tray attached to every one. Lots of servers running around during the entire movie.

Being an hospitality professional, I tend to have pretty high standards when it comes to service. I was very impressed with the service I received from the beginning to the end. I was warmly greeted with authentic service from the moment I walked it with the box office girls to the moment I left. Kudos to the staff training. I was greeted with friendly smiles and great attitudes. I noticed the theater was very busy from the minute I walked in, however that did not deter the staff from bringing their A game. My server Brian was courteous and prompt. The food was great and the presentation was spectacular. You can see the care that is taken in the kitchen with each dish that is brought out. I highly recommend the brownie sundae it was delicious. You can really tell the staff truly care about your experience. The GM remembered me and my date on the way out and made us feel special. This theater definitely set the bar high for any future dining experience. It's perfect for date night, or a night out with friends. The seats were comfortable and nicely sized. The picture quality was only surpassed by the sound quality. This place is a must go to for your next night out!
