Way better burger than the Thurman! Skip the overly trendy Thurman and go have a great burger in a historic setting.

My mother always told me not to travel down dark alleys, I don't know why when it seems like peril alley holds some of the best secret foodie joints. One such restaurant is ringside, a small little bar and grill that lures white collar workers in for lunch hour as well as the few Columbus natives that stumble in on occasion. Also not well known is the vape bar that is down stairs that you won't discover until you have to go to the bathroom.

Such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Stumbled in with a groupon on a Saturday night after some Christmas shopping for some burgers and it did not disappoint! I got the barbecue bacon burger and my mom got the chicken sandwich. Everything was amazing! Fries, onion rings, and burgers all 5 star material. The waiter was friendly and so great. It's a small place but it's just so unique and nice for a casual dinner date or a night out with friends. Love Ringside, I will be back! I will say, if you don't like burgers it's not for you, more than 3/4 of the menu is burgers, with only a few options for anything else.

Been back quite a few times and this really is the best burger in town. Not certain why I just gave it 4 stars...it deserves 5.

I just ate the best burger here that I have had in a while the other day. Table was nice and clean....it's just a hole-y hole in the wall with a bomb arse burger. That's all it needs to be. Thanks for the opportunity to update my review.

By all rights I should be giving this place 5-stars. I I love joints like this and the burger and chips were top-notch. But the bartender tried to clip me twice and I left the place unhappy. Now I'm not sure if it was larceny or stupidity, but either way it hurt my experience. When I first sat down, I opted not to start a tab right away and paid for a beer with a twenty. He gave me back change from a ten. I called him on it and he said words to the effect of "My bad, look I put the 20 in the 10 slot in the register." Not the first time I've had that scam pulled on me. But I was hungry so I ordered the burger and a couple of more beers and all was well until I went to settle up. The knucklehead had included that first beer I had paid cash for in the total. I pointed that out and he said , "Oh yeah, right." Now having said that, I would go back the next time I'm in town. But be assured I will reviewing the bill with a fine-toothed comb and paying with the smallest bill possible.

We kind of had a hard time finding this place. It's in an alley in downtown Columbus. I had heard great things so my son and I headed down on Friday night. For being a restaurant, it is TINY. A couple of booths, a couple of tables and the bar. That's it. I don't know how they make food back there. The kitchen is almost non existent. The building is very old and neat though. We waited for what felt like forever. They greeted us when we came in but then we sat for at least 10 minutes before they even took our drink orders. It wasn't really that busy but obviously the server was overwhelmed. Everyone was nice though. Again, waited a LONG time for the food. The burgers were REALLY good though. The chips were ok. They needed some flavoring or salt or something. Just really bland. I would go back but only for takeout. I think we were there for at least an hour and a half just to get 2 burgers and eat.

RINGSIDE CAFE won my loyalty on my second trip in. I accepted the invitation to burgers and beer with a friend for an early supper. Dang! I wrote a review 8/30/13 and slammed the Chicken Salad and Service. I was absolutely without reservation convinced with my burger and the high quality service that Ringside needs your visit and patronage. The burgers I learned are never frozen, made into a patty when ordered and this brings the freshness and flavor to where it needs to be. The hot chips were so good. I learned that the chips and fries are cut on site each day from fresh potatoes and never frozen. The server was so attentive, professional and engaging. I am convinced now that first impressions are often in need of re-evaluating to have a better opinion formed. Thanks RINGSIDE! I'll see you soon for sure.

Ordered 'Ali' which is 3/4 lb Angus patty. Cooked perfectly to medium but the taste didn't blow me away. I wish it was seasoned more.

Found this gem on yelp while passing through Columbus. It was hard to find because it's off an ally in downtown but well worth the search! Best hamburger I've ever had! The meat was well cook & the lettuce crisp. They also had a nice variety of burgers to choose from.

This yummy greasy burger may be my new go-to for hangovers. It was super good and service was great too. The scenery is awesome. It is almost like an old church. My friend was too nervous to go in by herself, but it ended up being all business men inside. Not creepy. menu was sandwich and burger based. I am okay with that. I got the onion rings but wish I would have got the chips. They are super large chips straight from potatoes not from a bag. Different beer selection, on draft at least. Recomend.

This place is a block from my apartment, and we'd been walking by it for a month now. It was time to give it a shot. Talk about a hole in the wall. This place is the definition! Two guys working, one cooking, one taking orders, for a crowd of probably 30 both inside and out. As we waited 15 minutes for our Miller Lite bottles (why not? it's cheap), we started to contemplate just getting up and walking out. Man, am I glad we didn't. We found what I believe to be the best burger in Columbus. Far better than Thurman's, and even better than Graffiti. A hand-formed masterpiece on a perfect bun with super fresh, probably locally-grown toppings and a side of home made chips. It was perfect. PERFECT. Now just speed up your damn service already! We'll be back.

Excuse me, Ringside... where in the heck did you come from? I have been here like a decade, lived downtown even and we have never met. I don't understand- were you avoiding me? Hiding your wonderfulness for some reason? No matter, I know where you are now and I will never let you go. I live a block and a half from Thurman's. I will get in my car and go here for a burger instead. Ringside is cramped, slightly sticky, and dark inside. It is kind of like going to a frat house (if hipsters had frat houses) for a meal. However, the service is prompt, efficient and friendly. The food is damn amazing (the selection is limited, because that is a sign that you truly know what the hell you are doing). This is not a place to go on a diet. You will regret it in the morning, but unlike most things- it will be worth it.

Great location downtown for after work drinks. It feels very cozy on the inside. The burger tasted great. I was instantly addicted to their fresh cut fries. Service was a little slow but nothing too crazy. This is a great stop to have on a monthly rotation. I'll definitely be going back. Try one of their burgers.

Husband's only complaint was he missed the first OSU TD of the B1G championship game because they hadn't switched to the right channel, but the burgers were perfect! No grease, but juicy & clearly used quality beef. The fries...sinfully good

A few of us went here during lunchtime, and I was surprisingly happy with what they had to offer. The BBQ burger I had was cooked very well and the sauce was quite tasty. I feel like it was a proportionately-sized meal, even though they skimped on the home-made chips, and service time was average (for the lunch rush). The place tends to be a bit stuffy at times. The layout is a bit cramped; I'd say if it is nice and the outdoor seating is available, sit there. This place has a certain appeal and intrigue to it. I really want to go back to experience it again. I have the slightest feeling it'll bump the 3* to a 4*.

Good burgers First time I tried to go here was late monday night but I guess their summer hours are different from what is listed on yelp. Anyways tried them out for lunch. It sits on Pearl which can be quite creepy. Inside is small, the dark wood and stain glass windows make me think of an old church. Ordered the smokin joe burger and fries; it was ready pretty quick. The fries were above average. Definitely better with ketchup. the burger was fantastic. The bbq sauce worked well with the cheese, bacon and tomato. If I had to knitpick I would say the bun was too big. Otherwise great meal.

Wow! That is what I've been searching for downtown! It was a total knockout, and I didn't even have the TKO! Onion ring upgrade was worth it. It is cozy in there, plan ahead to get a seat, precede the rush, or wait for a seat. Quite easily my new favorite burger!

Hidden away in a downtown alley next to the state offices in the Rhodes Tower, this place used to be known as Clem's. Ringside has burgers, beer, and a cool little roped off outdoor area when the city lets them. An evening hang out for politicos and functionaries. Why? Because they know good food and good alcohol are required for people without expense accounts, too. Lunchtimes are crowded because that's what happens when you serve huge portions of tasty American grub at reasonable prices. Try it once, and you'll end up as a valued regular if your travels take you through Columbus often.

I wandered in on one of my many walks since I started working downtown. I was not expecting much. To my surprise I had the best burger in town. I met the owners, Adrian and Kim. They are down to earth and care about their customers. I will be a customer as long as they are open and I recommend the Ringside to all.

A decent burger, great service. Charming building, dim, dive-y, could be a little cleaner (not surprisingly). Highly recommend the excellent onion rings.

So. I really feel kinda bad for giving this place a 2, cause I know it has a lot of potential and I came on a bad day. Apparently the cook and the backup cook were both out sick so the owner was working the grill. Unfortunately he did a pretty piss poor job of it. All the chicken was over cooked and charred. The fries were overdone too. This dive bar is pretty awesome for a dive bar, however, and I'm sure that it is probably pretty good when the actual cook is there.

I been hearing about this spot since I moved here, but for the lfie of me couldn't figure out where it was. I was downtown one day starving, so I decided to find a bite to eat, went through this alley and to my surprise here it stood ringside cafe lol. Went inside and thought it was a interesting spot, has a dive bar look but they treat you well. Had a big appetite so I decided to order a tko burger, which is a 1.5 lbs burger plus a double order of fries, and I have to say given the size I wasn't expecting a good tasting burger boy was I wrong. They brought it out and the burger looked great, like a burger you would pull off your grill at home (or better giving your cooking experiece). But this burger led me to a dilemma, I have ate at thurmans before this place(not the same day but at a different time). And I have to say if I ate here first this would be my burger spot in town. But I highly recommend this spot for a great burger, and a good beer to drink prices are some of the best in town, which is shocking being downtown.

This place is tiny! It's no wonder they can only so burgers and sandwiches, there's only space for a grill and nothing else. We came in right when they opened, and the tables were sticky. But it was water on wood sticky, not dirty. You guys have nice wood tables, you shouldn't use water on it! The burgers were good, so we're the chips. The jalapeno burger was their special in August 2014 and they just add a slice of pepper jack with some jalapeños on top. Pretty good. My burger was cooked perfectly to medium so no complaints there. I just wasn't a huge fan of the taste overall. There was nothing to really wow me. It's a good burger for the price, and I'd go back if someone wanted too.

I used to think that thurman's was the best burger in town, but I could never stand the wait. In hindsight, thurman's burgers were only a good value, but nothing really "wowed" me. This place does. A little hard to find, but well worth it. The ambiance is perfect and the burger I had was amazing. Great flavor, perfect medium rare, and the toppings all tasted fresh. I can tell that they take pride in what they make. Even the chips (which I later found out are made in house) are amazing! I love you decide to make this place a regular stop when I'm downtown. And, I must say, the price is excellent for the quality and quantity of food you get.

I came with my boyfriend to Columbus, Ohio in August for the MatsuriCon, looking for a burger place to eat and found this on yelp. The cafe was hidden in an alley way which we were surprise to find since we live in New York. They had a patio with many seats and a view of old brick buildings. We went into the cafe and was greeted and got seated right away. Since we came on a Thursday night, they weren't very busy, so they asked us where we would like to sit. Of course, I would choose the booth. As we sat, I looked around the cafe and saw stained glass windows like the ones you see in the church. Very historic features and it matches the cafe. Anyways, the server handed us the menu and it was plain simple. Nothing fancy and the prices were affordable. My boyfriend ordered the Ali Burger with a side of French Fries and I ordered the Duran Burger with a side of Beer Batter Onion Rings. I'd say about 10-15 minutes we got our food. Whatever they had described on the menu were on the burgers. Firstly, I've never been to any burger shop in New York City, so my reaction would be surprised. But these burgers were absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend and I took the first bite and it was DELICIOUS! We tried the French Fries and the Beer Battered Onion Rings. Oh my, I'm not even sure how to describe them, but the Onion Rings were so crunchy. It was the most satisfying meal for the both of us. Secondly, we stopped one last time on a Saturday night and ordered to go. We ate those burger in our hotel and had a food coma. Still satisfying as it is on the first day we tried it. Lastly, I don't think I would go anywhere else for burgers. This would be my go-to burger place. Four thumbs up! I would definitely come back to Columbus to try their other burgers, if I'm in town.

I haven't been there for awhile and dropped in yesterday afternoon after a meeting. I love the atmosphere and environment. Too bad Columbus has torn down everything of historic value. I had a great Tyson Bison burger, cooked just like I like it, with tomato, a little bit of lettucde, and blue cheese. It was huge. Also had a Bloody Mary. The bartender told me it was it was only the second one he'd made one in 4 months, but he did a wonderful job. I hae two favorite places to eat downtown, one at each end. The Warehouse and the Ringside. I"ll be doing the Ringside when I'm in that part of downtown.

Solid burger joint located down the very cool Pearl Alley in the heart of downtown. Patio is fantastic for people watching an eclectic mix of society, especially on a nice Friday afternoon during the hustle & bustle of Pearl Market. Interior is relatively small, though has a great feel to it. Grip onto one of these massive burgers cooked to greasy perfection named after a boxing legend! Which I love how Ringside named their burgers, but c'mon where's the Buster Douglas burger?! Give some props to the local heavyweight champ with a 2lb behemoth burger!! If you're downtown and want a great burger at a decent price then check this place out, I'll def be back..

Picture it: the heart of downtown, down the gorgeous and secretive Pearl Alley, a beautiful old brick building that houses the most historic restaurant in the city. That's Ringside Cafe. I can't believe I waited 10 years to try this place! I loved everything about it. Now before you scurry downtown, I need to tell you a few things first: -It's down an alley, so parking is, umm... yeah. I freaking love that it's down Pearl, so this isn't a gripe from me. But seriously, park at the meters or the lot on Gay St and take a little stroll. Or catch the CBUS. -The building was built in 1897, so it's old. It's not shiny and new. I repeat: it's OLD. This is another plus in my book. -The interior is pretty tiny, so don't bring a group. 4 people max, y'all. -There will likely only be three people running the entire restaurant, so if you like service that is at your every beckon call, Ringside isn't for you. Don't get me wrong, everyone was really friendly and helpful; they just treat you more like you're friends at their house rather than traditional table service. -The menu is small, yet full of greasy deliciousness. Lots of tasty burger options. And these 1/2-pound burgers are DEE-licious too... some of the best in the city. They have some salads and other options too, but really--get a burger. -The prices are just right too. $9-10 for a massive, good-quality burger? Yes please. If it sounds like I'm trying to deter you a little bit from coming, that's because I am. Ringside isn't for everyone, so I'm trying to set expectations. But if you're an adventurer who loves hidden gems and delicious food, then this is the place for you.

I have been living a stone's throw from Ringside for almost a year and just yesterday got carryout for lunch. Had the Jack Dempsey (standard burger with American, lettuce, mustard, mayo-I held the mayo), and onion rings. It was really good. The burger was cooked correctly, onion rings were very crispy, and the lettuce was shredded, which is far superior to leaves that wilt on the meat. Only complaint is there was no sauce for the rings. I would eat there next time instead of getting to go, so I can eat it hot off the grill. I see the CPD eat here a lot, so that's a seal of approval.

Cool place. It's a hole in the wall but who doesn't love that. Solid sandwiches and a decent bar. Limited draft beer selection but they made a wicked Bloody Mary. Great location. Short walk from broad and high. Service was a little slow today but no big deal. Peace and love.

The service was super friendly. It was mid afternoon and there were only three other people in the bar. Our food was awesome! Even our daughter ate every morsel! We had a slight problem with our Groupon, but our server was really sweet and understanding. We visited the vape shop downstairs and really liked it.

I've been searching for a place to substitute for Thurman's since its profile on Man Versus Food has turned it into man versus queue-- beyond what was once expected. So being inspired by the first amazing afternoon of spring to scout OBX-ing opportunities (which in a town with rising value and knee-jerk property protection is basically zero--not like in the days gone by) I decide to try this place while out on my 10-mile walk. I wouldn't say it reaches the heavenly heights of Thurman's, but it did make my top-5. It certainly will satisfy my lust for grounded up bovine. Ringside sits in the shadows of Rhodes Tower, there after Pearl Street abuts at Gay, and then continues on as an off-road plaza until Broad; in that black areas between skyscrapers where from the street it seems nothing exist, but in reality holds independent eateries and watering holes to serve downtown offices and politicos from the statehouse. An establishment has been in its red brick building since the 1890s, becoming a speak easy during prohibition-- no doubt to serve the hypocrisies of machine politicians-- and continues today. Its old, red entrance door leads to a small, dark space that reminds my of a church or abbey. In dark wood the booths look like rustic pews in design; the wall are paneled the same; the restroom door seemed to lead to a confessional. Above, the only natural light glows through stain glass windows wrapping the space; they seem to show Tudor inspired scenes, save one with the image of a donkey and an elephant--the contestants of the boxing match theme of the place. No doubt this is the place where many deals were made in corrupting fumes of cigar smoke; one of many historical spaces that combine to be the real statehouse. The most impressive item sat above the door. A huge, portrait oriented painting of a boxing scene that I suspect--hope--is a original (or even copy) George Bellows. It looks like one of his boxing set. A point-of-view from a ringside seat, in an illegal boxing venue of the early 1900s, it shows a pugilist knocking his opponent across the ropes. Even if not a Bellow, it still connects the two themes of the place in its religiously conspicuous spot. I sat at the bar where the only server looked like a boxer just out from a spare. This is not a slam, as his torn clothing, five o'clock shadow, and punch- drunk demeanor seemed authentic for the pubs environment. He was helpful and gave great service. The menu here is small and focused on hamburgers named after famed boxers: The Ali, Jack Dempsey, Oscar De La Hoya. These are your usual choices: Bleu Cheese, Red Pepper, BBQ. They have a mammoth 1.5 lbs "TKO", but that was too much for me. I selected a 1/2 pound Brown Bomber, a portabella topped patty with Swiss. The ground beef was of great quality, though it wasn't spice rubbed, it did have a classic burger taste. The mushrooms come with a glaze that was tasty. I added fries for a buck-and-a-pop; they were decent. The on-tap choices were two crafts; A Columbus Brew IPA and Elevator's Brown Nut. I chose a pint of Guinness. They also sell the full set of domestics and imports, as well as several local crafts by bottle. They make other bar staple food as well. I ordered it well-done . . . sigh, there really needs to be a universal standard of what that means; here it means to 'charcoal' the outer shell. So take note if you want a step down. I think I will do that the next time. They have a nice patio out front, and a basement I didn't venture down. This place certainly makes a great bugger, and provides an awesome place enough to attract me on further visits. I am excited to sample more of their menu.

We came here on a Wednesday night with a hankerin' for burgers, and were the only people in the place! Maybe it's the location? I mean, they're tucked in Pearl Alley with no signage to be seen, other than the laminated paper on the door listing their hours. But whatever the reason, people are missing out if they pass by Ringside. We had a Cesar salad to start. It was huge, plenty for both of us, and they don't skimp on any of the toppings. We each ordered a burger. I had the bbq bacon burger, and my guy had the haymaker. We both devoured them, no time for swappin' bites! The fires were super crispy, the onion rings were delish, and the price was right! I'll pick this place over that OTHER burger joint- where you have to wait an hour for a seat- any day!

Had the Portobello Mushroom Sandwich today. Delicious! This is an old school pub in one of the oldest buildings in Columbus. It's very cool inside and has a nice vibe to it. Service was fast, food was well cooked and seasoned. There were two mushroom patties, lots of grilled bell peppers and delicious home made potato chips to go with it. Price was reasonable and was a perfect place for a quick bite at lunch time. They have a nice patio outside but I chose to eat inside. It was a bit chilly. This could be a great hangout at night for a beer and some gourmet pub grub. I would go here again.

Visiting from out of town and went based on Yelp reviews with no regrets. The fries were exceptional as was the blue cheese burger. You can definitely tell that almost everything is made in house. I went on a Tuesday night when the legislature was not in session and very easy to grab a spot. I also like the fact that they don't skimp on portions with the fries or the burger.

I had high hopes going into Ringside. Unfortunately, the experience didn't live up to the hype. Pro's: - cute environment - convenient location if you're downtown Cons: - inconvenient location if you're not already downtown - nonchalant customer service - 2 burgers at my table, 3 at the table next to me, all ordered medium to well done burgers and all arrived with the same rare cooking. Messing up cooking it too much is safe and understandable. Messing it up cooking it too little on 5 burgers in a row is dangerous and poor cooking on the restaurants behalf. - prices were a little high considering how poor the food was (the chips were pretty bad; Easy Streets house chips are better) - while the pub layout and decor was a nice environment, it also felt like the place was a hole in the wall mom and pop shop that shouldn't have been cooking that bad for that much money.

Been here a handful of times and it does not disappoint. It is simple, greasy, good burgers and a couple side choices. This is one of the oldest restaurants in Columbus and you can tell. The bathrooms are some of the dirtiest around. But, if you are going for a good burger, you'll be happy.

Oldest bar in Columbus. Really neat little place. Great burgers. Decent service. Teeny tiny interior but outdoor seating is plenty. A hidden gem in Pearl Alley.

The service was super friendly. It was mid afternoon and there were only three other people in the bar. Our food was awesome! Even our daughter ate every morsel! We had a slight problem with our Groupon, but our server was really sweet and understanding. We visited the vape shop downstairs and really liked it.

First time today. The place looks cool, and the service is ok. My hamburger was good, but the bun fell apart because it was just dry, so the whole experience of holding a hamburger in my hands didn't go well. Just get a better bun guys.

Husband's only complaint was he missed the first OSU TD of the B1G championship game because they hadn't switched to the right channel, but the burgers were perfect! No grease, but juicy & clearly used quality beef. The fries...sinfully good

If you're looking for a dive bar with some history, Ringside has got you covered! This place has been around since 1897 and by the looks of it, that's not surprising! Ringside is dark, dingy and located in the desolate Pearl Alley right near the High & Broad intersection. It has been dubbed one of Columbus' oldest and most historic restaurants and gets its name from the boxing theme that it presents to patrons. I have been here for a number of work functions as well as just for a quick and simple lunch with coworkers, and let me tell you, it gets very crowded inside the restaurant very quickly. If the main dining area fills up, they do have a basement seating area, but it is pretty dungeon-like. If it happens to be nice out, however, the outside "patio" (more like a roped off area in the alley) is a great place to sit and eat. Ringside is known for its burgers. I can vouch that they are absolutely fantastic. They are all named after famous boxers (or have a boxing theme tied in) and are all juicy and plump. Their hand cut fries are delicious and definitely beat the frozen crinkle cut option they also offer. Favorites for me are the "Smokin Joe" BBQ Bacon Burger and the The "Duran" Cajun Bleu Burger. The burgers are classified under "heavyweights" but they also have other smaller meals that fall under "lightweights" and "welterweights." Their bar is fully stocked, so much so that they were one of the only places that I found that had the elusive Christmas Ale by Great Lakes Brewing Company. This place is perfect for an after-work drink, which God knows we all need every now and again!

The last time I checked in here I became duchess. Small problem though; after 20 minutes with no service I had to leave. I only get an hour for lunch, and my office is pretty strict. I had to get lunch somewhere else. It seemed that day there was only one server for the entire restaurant, both the inside and the patio. He was very apologetic when we left. Unfortunately, now that I think about it, he is the only server I have ever seen working at the restaurant. (I think he might be the owner but he's always so busy I've never had a chance to talk to him.) This can't be right, I'm hoping someone just called in sick that day. There are way too many tables for just one person. That being said, the food is always really good. I usually get a burger, and it is a seriously good burger. The beef is cooked perfectly and the buns are soft and fresh. The best part: burgers are $3 off for state employees on Mondays and Wednesdays. They aren't that expensive to begin with so this is great. The building is pretty interesting, tucked into Pearl Alley. It's not that convenient if you don't work downtown, but lucky for me I do. I will definitely try them again. Hopefully they will have an extra server next time.

I stumbled upon this place and was very much pleased. Hole in the wall but an excellent hole it is. Dark lighting, plenty of TVs, interesting decor and design (mostly wood). Great beer (especially local brews) and liquor selections. Outside seating during warm seasons is a definite plus. The food portions are filling, tasty and prepared quickly even with a packed house. I barely got through a quarter of my beer before a giant burger was brought out to me.

Great location downtown for after work drinks. It feels very cozy on the inside. The burger tasted great. I was instantly addicted to their fresh cut fries. I absolutely love their burgers! Their restaurant is a very quaint storefront in an alley between Broad St. & Gay St. They have great burgers and fries (as well as im sure other things but i only eat the burgers and fries). The only negative I have is they are quite slow! They only ever seem to have 3 employees smack in the middle of heavy lunch hour which seems like a bad idea! I wish they were also a little bit more friendly!

We stumbled upon this place by accident one Friday and have been coming back ever since! The happy hour is what does it, cheap beer and half off burgers. Their burgers are fantastic! I would go as far as to say they are as good as Thurman's but cheaper and without the wait. We ordered the blue cheese cajun burger and the barbecue bacon, both excellent and they come with fresh made kettle chips which are amazing. Service is good, vibe is low key and comfortable. Definitely a good find.

Ringside resides in the darkness of Pearl Alley just north of the statehouse and adjacent to the Rhodes Tower. It's smallish dark bar with great old wood paneling, a vintage bar, stained glass windows and a great staff. These guys know how to run a bar. Think Cheers. Good drink prices as well. The food is also very good on the spectrum of bar food. The hamburgers are the highlight of the menu. High quality fresh beef hand pressed into big patties with great toppings. There is also an outdoor patio which can be very nice when the weather permits and the downtown outdoorsmen leave you alone. I give a high recommendation to Ringside whether you are grabbing lunch or looking for a quiet friendly bar to hang out at night downtown.

This place has been around for a while and has a lot of history, but it's also kind of hidden. A friend from work took me and some other coworkers there for lunch recently and none of the rest of us had ever heard of it or seen it. Some of the old decor is pretty cool, including the stained glass on the ground level. Oh yeah, so there's a basement, which you would never know! Even if you'd been several times. The atmosphere was definitely different down there, and I think the guy who seated us and took our drink orders completely forgot us, so then our waiter had to re-take our orders when he came by. They are known for their burgers and they were definitely really tasty. I had the oscar de la hoya, I think. Most of us got our burgers either overdone or underdone tho. Everyone else at the table thought the sea salt fries were pretty much the best thing since sliced bread, but I thought they were... ok. I was clearly the minority so probably you'll love them. I was very close to giving this place a 4... my friend who took us has always had good experiences here, and the burger was tasty... but it was a little too pink, and the experience didn't wow me. To be fair, I didn't actually complain (since I was starving) so maybe they would've fixed it.

Eh, it was okay. At least the food and drinks were cheap.

At first I thought Ringside was only so good because of all the alcohol I had to drink before my dinner. My husband assured me though that no, it really is that good. I had a plain burger & he went with the BBQ bacon burger. Service was fast and the food was delicious. The husband particularly enjoyed the chips as he ate all of his and half of mine. It looks a little shady (ok, a lot) from the outside, but it's delicious. All the late 90s music playing on the radio quickly made it my favorite burger joint. Plus it's cheap! We went on a Friday night & somehow burgers were $3 off. Still not sure how that happened, but I'm not complaining!

This little jewel is hidden in Pearl Alley in downtown Columbus. Do not let the exterior of the building fool you, this place makes one of my favorite burgers in town (the Smokin Joe). It looks like a hole in the wall, but the food more than makes up for it.

Nice guys in there. I was literally the only one there on a Saturday night. Not sure why bc the bar has the feel of an old school pub from 1940. My drink was stiff and cheap. I'll head back if I'm ever back in the area.

While wandering around downtown Columbus late in the evening, I happened to find this place (at 8pm, it was open). What a find it was. The food was excellent! I had a burger and onion rings. Both were fresh and better than any I've found. The atmosphere is a boxing sports theme and the place has a long history behind it. Definitely a gem in the middle of Columbus. Think of a small pub in the thirties where locals would gather for a few laughs and a few beers and this is where they would meet. The food is outstanding, the atmosphere is great, what more can you ask for?

I have been to Ringside over the years and always thought - well, that wasn't the greatest lunch ever. Since changing owners, the food and service has suffered. Today was the end all be all of bad experiences that culminated in being told by our waitress as we were leaving that "we don't need customers like you". I'm sorry - I asked for a side of fries and a side of rings and that they come in separate baskets - when she brought our order the fries were on my friend's plate and the rings were on mine - I asked her to fix it and she lost it. Who knew. Never mind that the rings they brought were clearly old and charred with black edges to boot (and I was told they weren't going to charge me because they were the last they had). Never mind that the fries were black-ish. Never mind that it took 40 minutes to get our burgers and we were the ONLY table that was being waited on (the other party in the place had their meals). I admit that we all can have bad days, but I don't think it is EVER okay for the waitstaff to cuss at a customer. No matter how bad your day has been going. I'll never go back there again.

I travel. A lot. I'd say I'm in 2 different cities every week, so I've eaten at a lot of places and drunk at a lot of bars and it's the Ringside Cafe I rate most highly. I'll grant you, it's a bit rundown, and it's not in a great location, but Dan, who runs the place, is a really nice guy and recognizes the need to sell stellar beer, but more than that, indeed more than anything, they sell THE BEST BURGER IN AMERICA. I don't mean that in a small way. This burger is not good for you. Lean beef it is not, but hell, that's why it tastes so good. If you have any sense, go running, burn some calories, then spend those burnt calories here - its totally worth it.

OK - The burgers here are amazing. Dependent on what you are looking for this very well could be one of the best locations in Columbus. The quality and taste of food here is by far superior to the more commercialized burger joints in Columbus. A bit about my background. I have never posted on Yelp. I do not usually make decisions based on Yelp reviews. I consider myself a foodie and I have ate at the best restaurants across the globe. Several of the other reviews on this website denigrated Ringside and I truly believe it is unjust. Again, I will eat here again ... and I will bring friends! Please try it for yourself!

If you don't like their burgers then you need a kick in the pants! Oh sure it could be less grungy with a/c but then maybe it would lose some of it's over 100 year old charm. Patio is nice on cool summer evenings that turn into night. Dan is always great whether he's jam packed or you're the only one in the joint.

It's been a hard morning at work and you need to hide someplace and eat greasy things. Downtown workers head to Pearl Alley and straight in to Ringside to satisfy this need. You'll find a variety of messy burgers and sandwiches that will give you the strength to power through the rest of the day. I like the dive bar atmosphere with stained glass and detailed wood bar. If you're not into the heavyweight burgers, the welterweight BLT and chicken salad still satisfy your messy sandwich needs. Sit back, relax, enjoy some onion rings and boast that you ate at one of Columbus' oldest restaurants.

A very casual spot with excellent T.V.'s. Too bad the air conditioning wasn't working on one of the hottest days of the year!! Watched the Womens' World Cup Soccer and chatted with a local. Bartendress fine except that she asked me "Are you doing a geneological study" when I asked her where she was from. Some of the other kitchen staff looked a little bit like they were on the run from something but this place has real, downtown Columbus character. Pay especial attention to some of the collegiate Gothic detail throughout this quirky, historic sports bar.

Go to this place if you want to have a beer, a flame broiled tasty burger, and a side of downtown history. I can't speak to bad service, because Dan always treats me like I've been coming there for years (even though its only been a couple months). I can't wait for the weather to improve again, so I can sit outside on their patio.

Way better burger than the Thurman! Skip the overly trendy Thurman and go have a great burger in a historic setting.
