Went here after seeing it on Mike G.'s list, and reading his reviews and those of others. I'm very glad I went. Midafternoon on a weekday, it seemed empty. Very old-school decor, very good service. Going on Yelpers' recommendations, I got crab Rangoon and beef lo mein. The Rangoon came pretty quickly, and was one of the better versions I've had. A fair amount of crab, a good dipping sauce, and a decent-sized order. I've never been a huge fan of lo mein, but lately I've had it fairly often. Sweetie loves it, and I eat her leftovers sometimes and have gained an appreciation for it. It seems to be the dish everyone likes here, so I figured it was my best bet. And it was darn good. Tender meat, toothsome noodles, rich flavor. So, the place, and the food, are old-school. And that's a good thing. I love modern, fusion, whatever kind of Asian I can find. But I also appreciate these older places, still doing things (mainly) the same way they always have. I didn't go here years ago, but if they've streamlined the menu they still have plenty of options. And the decor, while "old-fashioned," is tasteful and the place is clean. I can't wait till I have a chance to go back.

We did carryout from here today. The guy who picked the food up said it looks very 1979 inside, but the place is in great condition. I'd like to check it out myself. I'm giving it a 2 because I got the "oriental rose" which: A) sounds like a dirty sex move B) looked like afterbirth C) has no business mixing Asian... gravy and sweet and sour sauce. One of the other guys got general tso's and i had a bite. The breading is way to thin. I will gladly give this place a second shot and go with a safe bet lunch, but round one is a fail.

The Peacock West is like a time capsule just like Tiffany C. stated. It's one of the few remaining old school Cantonese American restaurants typical of the Chinese restaurants you would have found in Columbus in the 60's and 70's. This is the type of place your parents or grandparents would have frequented back in the day when going to a Chinese restaurant was an infrequent treat reserved for special occasions. The decor reflects this to this day. You know, the ornate Chinese lanterns, red booths, black lacquered chairs, several cases with Chinese art, antiques and knickknacks. Antique Sumi E art hangs on the walls. It's like stepping back in time. I think it's fun just to look at everything that's there. The food? Schezuan and Hunan are alright but here it's all about Cantonese style. Trust me on this, their forte is Cantonese and they do it very well. I've been coming to this restaurant more years than I care to tell you. I will tell you though that their Crab Rangoon, Lo Mein, War Sue Gai, Chow Mein, Chop Suey, egg rolls and any of their soups are what you want to order. Their "cup of soup" is a bowl of soup. Check out the pictures. Get their Crab Rangoon for an appetizer. $4.95 for six filled with cream cheese and real crab. Their Lo Mein in particular is the best I've ever had. Anywhere. Period. Try it once and then try to tell me it's not the best you've ever had. The food is inexpensive too. Get this, seven of us all ordered dinner portions, most got either soup or egg rolls and a few appetizers and the bill was $98 and that's with tax. We could have fed 12 of us with all the food we received. Yeah, take home! As others have noted, it is under new management (actually the youngest generation is now running it). The chef, a super nice young man named Tiah, told us it's still the same family (37 years now). They've simplified the menu but other than that, not much has really changed. Thank goodness! So, great Cantonese, a cool retro vibe and inexpensive prices = Try this place out.

Some of the best Chinese food on the westside IMHO, service is fast and friendly - the prices are cheap!

Having neglected one of my go-to places for Chinese... I had to make a trip back to the west side of town after speculation of new owners, and much like what Mr. Mike G. has said... it IS under new ownership, but there's nothing to be afraid of. This area of town is slowly getting a new makeover, which is helping to lessen the "uneasy" vibe being across the old Westland Mall. They have cleaned the place up a little bit, or at least have given it a dusting. The lanterns, while still old.. looked less dingy and a wee bit brighter. A couple new decorations and peacocks adorn the place, but a lot of the same old things still remain as a time capsule of the past. It still carries a charm, but is by no means worn out and broken. I'm not sure why the negative reviews. I ordered my usual and it was pretty dag-on close to what the older folks used to make for us. We ordered a plethora of food on our visit and took most home for dinner, but what we had was pretty excellent. House Lo'Mein-- Still out of this world and some of the best in C-bus. Only one other place in Columbus can make it that good. The oils they use in this is heart stopping good. I seriously could not stop eating this. Egg rolls- Crispy, delicious and filling.. no skimping on portions here. Crab Rangoon-- Again, probably some of the better in Columbus. General Tso's Chicken-- Ok, so it was not exactly like the previous cooks, but it was still good. The sauce was flavorful with a good amount of spice. Peacock has condensed their menu to keep it simple and I imagine to save on having to continuously buy in stock. Their original menu had A LOT of different styles.... I mean... A LOT and it was overwhelming, so it's nice to see them getting back to basics.. especially with new and younger owners taking over. ALL I'M SAYIN' IS: that people should cut these kids some slack. They are trying to take over a business that has been in their family for over 30 years. It's a lot of pressure and I can tell you, I'd rather spend my money here on their Chinese food, which was still really good, than any of those pop-up strip mall places in the area, which uses store bought pre-prepped products. Stop by C-bussers... you will not be disappointed.

Until last night, I had not been here since a date I had 27 years ago. I don't know why. NIce atmosphere, really good service, and the food was pretty darn good. Thank you, Mike G. for putting this place back on my radar. I had the Shrimp Pad Thai and my husband had the Mongolian Beef. Both dishes were enjoyed and I am having the remainder of my entree today. The Crab Rangoon was the best I've ever had. I ate most of them. The filling stays hot, so beware. I wish they had veggie egg rolls. My husband got a bowl of Hot & Sour Soup and I had a few bites. Yum. We'll be back for dine-in and carryout (you can order online). I am editing this review because I forgot to mention that although they have alcohol on the menu, they currently do not have a liquor license. Bummer.

Went to dinner tonight with Mike G. and Karen M. I think its safe to say that a good time was had by all. As others have mentioned, this is an old-time Chinese restaurant (they even had chop suey on the menu) and as someone who's grown to like the Schezuan style of cooking this wasn't my favorite place to grab a bite. But the restaurant is very nicely laid out and the company was great. I ordered a cup of wonton soup (and they brought me a bowl) and an order of sweet and sour chicken, while both of my dining partners got lo mein. The soup was good and the chicken was a little tough. But I enjoyed myself nonetheless.

Seriously disappointed in all westside chinese. The service was good, very nice host. However the general tso's didn't even remotely taste like it. You could tell the meat they used was cheap. The sauce was sweet not at all garlicy. The chicken was soggy. The fried wontons were literally fried wonton shells with no filling. I have been to several Chinese places on the west side and they have all been very disapointing. This place had decent fried rice and brown sauce on the peppersteak. It seems like places like this have been frequented by locals who are used to this quality of chinese. I'm from connecticut. Near new york. About an hour 1/2 from the city. The ethnic food out that way was superb. The only good chinese food i've had out here in columbus has been out east. Reynoldsburg/patalaska/pickerington area. I guess i'll have to drive out there from now on. I give up on the westside!

I got a to-go order for my aunt, I was actually going to order something myself. However the smell of the dining room immediately changed my mind. I did try the egg roll. 1-5=2. The egg roll did not seem like it was fully cooked, the inside was very doughy.

Ignore the road construction. Ignore the decor. Just great food always. Steady as the west wind and don't be afraid to ask for it done your way. No problem. Big place and never a wait. We have been eating here for 30 plus years, a couple times a month. Why there isn't a line out the door is mystery.

Great service, we asked for medium spicy, but not spicy at all. Temp on food inconsistent my egg roll was very hot my general tsos n steamed white rice were not as hot as i like. Steve got curry chicken n fried rice and he said his fried rice was cold in some spots. Conclusion.....general tso is authentic sauce not spicy at all though. Would i go back? Yes but he says he doesn't want to go back he says they lack flavor.

So good! Being here a number of times the food has always been good, service is great, prices aren't bad for the food you are served. This is a quite, nice place. I have never seen it really busy, most of the orders where for take out when i was in there the last few times. Looking for more upscale, nice quiet setting? This is the place to go! Highly recommended!

This is one of the Chinese restaurants that hasn't changed its decor in decades; I kind of like that kind of place. It was dead quiet on a Saturday night (possibly due to the late hour--we got there around 8), which makes me worry for its future. The crab rangoon was pretty mediocre, without much crab flavour in the filling, but my chicken curry was excellent. She asked what heat level I wanted, and not feeling like showing off and getting "hot" I got "medium" instead, and it was perfect. Good curry flavour, and just hot enough to notice it. I didn't even mind that the only vegetables in it were green peppers and onions. I would definitely come back to try other dishes.

First going to start w/ the honest truth. We would have never tried this place if it was not for a Gift Card discount. We bought the gift card discount bc of many of the reviews on Yelp, and said Lets Try It & try it we did tonight. WOW. Lets start by saying its in the worst location ever & that was the main reason why we never stopped to try it. Were huge fans of Chinese food. Once you step inside, the place has a real classic Chinese feel, from older pictures on the wall, the HOT 70's red chair covers, to the straight up classic Asian lighting fixtures. Loved that. Now as far as food goes.. its truly was one of the best local Chinese places to eat I've been to in along time. I'm now a FAN after one visit and will be back. The food does not come on any fancy plates, or try to look pretty. When food is good it needs no plating help. The rice was perfect & ready for chopsticks. We both ordered a Chicken dish bc it was our first time, so we played it safe. Next time we wont. The food came to the table hot and ready to eat. The egg rolls were larger and stuffed. Crab Rangoon was different & unlike many other places in the area, ate each one. We also wanted to give the pot-stickers a chance too, Am I glad we did. Best part of the meal. I always say you can tell all about a place from there appetizers. Hands down, and I've eattin alot of pot-stickers, theirs make the top of my list. All around, We love Chinese food, and if you do too this place will not disappoint. Is it too soon to go back?? BC I sure will be. Classic. Retro.

So good... been going here for years and will keep going. Staff is friendly. Service is always good. Wor Sue Gai is delicious. Their Facebook page is new and I've been told they have plans to do a special for those who like the page.

Affordable and great appetizers. Servers were nice and friendly with my 2 yr old. No official childrens menu, but they do have 'american food including fries-which we had for our son- available. Although my son liked the egg roll and crab rangoon we had. My wife and I had alcoholic beverages, an order of crab rangoon a meal (and for $4 you can add soup, and a appetizer platter that has one jumbo shrimp-fried, egg roll, and spare ribs.) It was quite yummy! I got the pepper steak that had a heavier sauce than I prefer, but still good. THen our server gave us a free dessert that was AMAZING. Only sad part is that we have been living in Westgate for 5 years and just discovered this quiet casual chinese resturant. We will do carry-out in the future, I am sure as well.

I remember dining here as a young boy. Just about every Sunday we would dine in. I stopped going for years just because life got in the way. Recently, My wife and I tried take-out and enjoyed it very much. Hasn't changed in more then 30 years. Classic Chinese comfort food. Just like old times.
