I am giving a 4 strictly for the amazing food!! Everything is very flavorful and there is always a good variety of dishes. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Northwest Columbus area. My favorites are the chicken tikka masala and the garlic naan. Sometimes I get a bowl of the masala sauce just to dip the nan in. The only problem is the service totally sucks and the décor is shabby. At the end of the day though, the food is what really matters and it's what keeps me coming back:)

Very good Indian food and I would have given them at least 4 stars but as most non-western restaurants do, they interpreted my request for "hot" as "white girl spicy." My order was not spicy at all. Samosas were yummy. I'm used to a flakier crust but these guys had a more pie-ish crust. The coriander chutney was awesome-sauce! Ordered the paneer mahkani. Would have enjoyed it spicier, as mentioned before no heat in the dish could be detected really, but the portions were very generous. Lots of cubes of cheese! The garlic naan was great as well. Very good meal, all in all. Plus, pitchers of beer were only $6 and I saw some really good drink specials for their weekday happy hours.

Have been going here for over a year. Great service and fantastic food! Plenty of vegetarian options too!!

I've had the saag paneer several times. It's really good--and they'll make anything vegan for you!

In pursuit of the best Indian Buffet that isn't too far away from work, this is the 4th we have been to in about as many months. I will say that it is not the best and definitely not the worst. Walking in to a typical Indian Buffet decor, the first thing I disagree with is the too dim lighting. I am here to stuff my face at lunch, not a romantic dinner. The music isn't really Indian fare, seems more like something from the big band era. This strikes me as a bit odd. As for the food, I thoroughly enjoyed the naan. It was really good and well prepared. Second favorite would be some manner of eggplant and potato casserole where the eggplant is cooked down so far, it became more of the casserole base than the substance. Delicious. The tandoori chicken is also very good and supremely moist. Middling reviews go to the masala and chicken curry. I have had better and they lack both flavor and heat. All the other dishes I tried pretty much fall in to this category including the paneer which gets a resounding meh. Very positive service from this visit including: Friendly, attentive staff Good selection Food was hot and fresh No empty spots on the buffet

Really good food!! The table shared the House Special Platter - Lots of yummy fried goodness and really nice flavors. I had the chicken korma and the garlic naan. Both were delicious. Actually, I am craving the korma so bad as I type this. The service was good. I wouldn't say the staff was outgoing or overly friendly, but I did get them to laugh a few times and that sort of lightened the mood. The food came out fast, fresh and tasty and our drinks were refilled quickly. The service was pleasant - not rude at all. Two of us at the table used coupons - mine was from crowdsavings and my sister's was groupon I believe. They had no problem accepting the coupons. The only problem was that my bill was under $7 after my coupon and they wouldn't accept my credit card for such a small amount. I had no cash so my brother had to spot me for the remainder of my bill and my tip. Keep that in mind if you aren't one to carry cash! I will be back soon.

A friend and I went to the lunch buffet; the food was decent, but the selection was limited. The buffet cart was pretty small, which I was surprised as I'm used to Indian buffets having a number of selections. Overall, it was okay, but wouldn't be my top choice to return.

This place is delicious! I really enjoy the interior decor and the cozy atmosphere. My boyfriend and I used a Groupon and split vegeterian samosas, naan basket, and chicken tikka masala. Everything was fresh and tasty and our bill turned out to be only $22. Although the servers' responses were short, they were very attentive and prompt with refilling water, taking plates, etc. I noticed that they have great mixed drinks like mango lassi with rum! Definitely getting that next time we go. By the way, even though we split our entree, we couldn't finish all of the bread so we still have leftovers. The bread basket is an awesome deal.

Nice restaurant close to home, and really fast. We love the Saag series, and the lamb spicy entries. I will try the buffet sometime. Lots of deals going on as well.

my boyfriend introduced me to this place.I must say the lamb curry and the goat curry is so good. they can make it as non spicy or spicy you want. and the garlic naan bread is a must

This place was recommended to me by a friend. I'm not too familiar with Indian cuisine, and the wait staff was very friendly and patient with me. They asked me what kinds of things I generally liked and then suggested dishes they felt I would enjoy. I was not disappointed!! I've gone to other Indian restaurants and I felt that this place was fairly priced and the food was very good. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I'm not familiar enough with Indian cuisine to know if it deserves a 5 for the food. It definitely deserves 5 stars for the service though!

Very good Indian carryout but not the greatest for eating in. The decor is dated and the servers are okay but not overly friendly. I like their variety of vegetarian items and medium spicy is still not TOO spicy. The garlic naan is excellent and my kids love the samosas.

  • K M.

I'm giving them 5 stars for their food and pricing. However, if service with a smile is your thing this isn't the place to go. Although they are prompt, the servers never seem to be happy to see more customers walk in the door. But hey, the food is delicious.

New India Restaurant is a place my wife and I frequent. They always have some incredible coupons on their website or online some place. If you are looking to please your appetite and perk your palette then this is the place. Stick with carryout as they are quick and vegan friendly! The service for dine-in leaves more to be desired and more smiles would be appreciated but we mostly get to-go for this reason because the food is so perfect! They feature a variety of vegetarian dishes that can be made vegan as well as some excellent naan.

My favorite all around Indian place in Columbus. The food is excellent. The staff get's criticized online for being reserved, but they warm up once you get to know them. And I've never had bad service there. Good buffet and excellent tandoori chicken and chicken tikka masala! My favorite though: the saag paneer.

I have eaten here probably three times now. On two occasions I had the buffet, and another I had dinner off the menu. The food has always been solid. Nothing to blow me out of the water yet, but definitely worthy of return visits. The staff is pretty attentive when it isn't buffet service, and the lassi is good. I can't eat Indian without ordering a lassi. It's a problem. My main complaints would be 1) the naan is pretty poor and 2) the bathrooms are kinda...I don't know, dirty compared to the rest of the restaurant. There are far worse restrooms, but usually the dining room is to match. You would expect better considering the standard set out front.

I really hate giving "bad" reviews but I truly have "experienced better". I stopped in some time ago with a groupon, and very much in the mood for something rich and flavorful. Since I had some "extra" money to play with, I chose a wide range of menu items, including coconut soup, naan, lamb shahi korma, spiced tea, and gulab jamun ...my favorite Indian dishes. The dishes were all nicely served - the typical silver colored platters and bread baskets - but somehow everything just seemed to lack flavor. The coconut soup came out first. It had plenty of sweet, warm, coconut milk taste, as well as very large pieces of actual coconut, though it was a tad watery for my tastes. The tea was also very good. ...but probably the most seasoned thing I had. Seasoning was the major problem I had with the main dish, the curry. I eat a lot of curry - it's my favorite food, regardless of type or nation of origin - and I like it at a medium level of spice (enough so there's a kick but not so much you don't taste the other seasonings). I know that this is what I asked for, so I was very disappointed when I got a curry that was so mild as to taste like eating beef gravy. The only seasoning I could really discern was pepper, of which there were large black flakes, though not so much that it made the dish "spicy". Thinking about it now, I honestly wonder if there was some ingredients left out? At least the texture and color were decent and there was also plenty of meat... though its flavor was a bit strong. Of course, maybe it normally is in curries, but the rich blend of spices make it seem milder. That just wasn't the case here. Oh well. Mixed with the soft rice and fresh (if again rather bland) naan, it was edible and filling. Just not... exciting. I honestly make better curry at home using the spices in my pantry and mixes I buy at the grocery store. At least dessert, the gulab jamun, was okay, and had plenty of cardamom sweetness. Definitely better than the times I have tried to make it, and a good end to any Indian meal. Atmosphere is nice - typical Indian restaurant with plush booths, glittery chandeliers, and a few pieces of art/sculpture. There is also a bar, popular with the college kids who came in while I was there. It's nothing to get excited over in and of itself, though. Service... again, not unusual for Indian places which for some reason often have curt, unenthused servers. She was, though, efficient and capable. A smile might have been nice, though. Perhaps it was just a bad day all around? At least the prices are okay. For the most part, they charge the same as most Indian places...maybe a hair less. However, New India also is involved with and offers a large range of coupons and discounts if you watch the websites/papers/deal websites. They often show up on Groupon, for instance, and I had no problem using mine. However, no matter how good a deal might be, it will be really hard for me to justify returning when there are so many other really good Indian places in the area with truly flavorful korma...

Food was pretty good. However, don't buy the Groupon expecting to redeem it for the Thali dinner. Although the exclusion was not listed in the small print, they refused to redeem it. This, despite the fact that they knew we had a Groupon. Would have been nice if they told us that when we placed our order. Decent food, LOUSY customer service. We will not be back.

A pretty decent buffet with a decent price. I was impressed with the amount of variety they had even though the space seems so small. For around $11, they had tandori chicken, naan, saag, and about 5 different curries. They also had 3 different dessert dishes available. The food was hot and tasted fresh. Now of course the food is dumbed down for the less adventurous eater so that was my only disappointment. The only dish with a decent spice was the cauliflower dish. I would not rate this as the best indian buffet but I would do this place over a few others that I have been to in Dublin.

  • Tom C.

Amazing awesome flavors!! From the curry, to the chili chicken, to the tandoori chicken. It is all delicious. The rice is even good all by itself. The lunch buffet options don't seem to change often but they don't really need to. You will never leave there hungry or disappointed. Give it a try.

I had not tried Indian food before in my life and some friends recommended this restaurant as a good choice. I have to say I enjoyed the flavors and the fresh Naan. It has been a while since I've been back and I can only recall the dishes I had but both the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Saag were great. I preferred the Chicken Saag and with the naan it was perfect. I don't have much I can compare this Indian restaurant to other Indian restaurants, but I believe this is one of the better ones. The only real issue I had was our server was inattentive and seemed annoyed to be working at all. I am not picky when it comes to ordering and I give a server leeway if it is a dinner rush, but this was a slow day and a bad attitude is something you can leave at home when you come to work.

This was my first Indian food experience. My friends chose this establishment. The food was fantastic. My taste buds got to explore a combo platter and food on my friend's plates along with a mango drink and India beer. Our server seemed lost and appeared to be annoyed with any of our request. Perhaps he was new. I certainly would visit again. Establishment was clean. Plenty of parking.

I've been looking for a decent Indian restaurant nearby and I think I finally found it. I just picked up carry out here and I'm pretty impressed! I ordered the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. The masala was very good, not overly soupy, with a good amount of large chicken chunks. The garlic naan was delicious! If you love garlic, this is a must try. My only minor complaint is that I ordered the hot spice level and they gave me "white girl spicy", which was about a level 3 on a scale of 1-10. I will be back to try more dishes, hopefully with more heat!

We eat at New India Restaurant at least once a week! I've tried many Indian restaurants in town but nothing beats their food! We've never had issues with their service - they're not up in your face with fake smiles asking you how the food is every five seconds but they are attentive and have never gotten an order wrong. There is a lunch buffet weekdays and weekends - we have tried it but prefer the menu to a crowded buffet. The sauces are flavorful, the meats are cooked to perfection, the chutneys are tasty, and the naan is delicious! The mango lassi is the best!

Had a great dinner at New India after work today. It was out of the way, but amazing nonetheless. The bread basket ($6.50) is a good deal with a nice mix of naan. And i absolutely love bread of any and all kinds. Personal problem. I always get the vegetable samosa and for some reason refuse to stray from ordering the chicken curry, hot. It is delicious. Solid 4 stars.

We typically only eat here when we have a Groupon. We discovered it when Amul India closed because of Walmart moving in, who threw them out of their building. So we came here until we discovered that they opened back up just down the street from where they once were. Compared to Amul the food doesn't seem to be as high of quality. The curries seem to be thinner and watered down, less meat in the dishes. Even the naan seems a bit thin. Even with all that the food isn't horrible, it's average for Indian, maybe a little below average. The service here has a lot to yearn for and one of the main reasons we don't like coming. They almost never get you refills and I'm not sure they actually seat people in the order they arrive vs. the order of convenience for them. They always have room in the back which never seems to be opened and the bathrooms are tiny and not that clean. They almost never pick up your bill for you so I just go straight to the register so I don't have to wait 20 minutes to pay my bill.

New India is good, nice buffet. Good prices. Enough meat and veggie options to please both crowds. General I've had quiet, kind of shy servers, but the food is authentic North Indian and good. The interior needs to be updated big time, looks like and 80s hotel.

I've been here at least 5/6 times now and love the food. The service however is usually not so good. If you're going to eat hear just be prepared for the not so good service. The food however is what keeps me coming back.

Very kind people own and operate this place. Their lunch buffet is a great deal, but they close from 230-5, right after the buffet ends. Today, they opened their doors to me, even though they are supposed to be closed. The Chicken Saag is excellent.

I LOVE New India...for me it is by far the best Northern Indian food restaurant in the area. I love their Chicken Tikka Masala, Chicken Makhni and Palak (Saag) Paneer (vegetarian). I have never had a bad experience with these dishes, they always taste good, however the flavor isn't super consistent from visit to visit.

So I came here because my friend had a livingsocial deal here. I've read that their service is questionable. The waitress was fine, but I just felt like we were being watched during our dining experience. I'm not sure if that's normal or maybe it was a slow day (weekday) and where we were sitting. We ordered 3 dishes, chicken tikka masala, a spinach dish, an eggplant dish and garlic naan. Portions are okay. The food didn't really stand out to me. Everything about this place was just okay - it wasn't bad but it wasn't particularly great. I don't think I would come back unless we had another one of those vouchers.

New India is my favorite place in all the city for Indian cuisine. Their food is rich, but easy on the ghee, and if you want it spicy, they will deliver. Many a meal I've eaten with watery eyes - exactly as requested. Everything here is excellent, starting with their appetizers. This trip we tried onion bahji, which are strips of onion balled together with breading and fried. They looked like chicken wings and tasted like awesome - the perfect marriage of onion strings and rings. For entrees, I got the bhindi masala (okra dry-fried with chilies), extra spicy, while the spouse ordered aloo matter (potatoes and peas in sauce), medium spice. With a heaping bowl of basmati rice and a bread basket - get the bread basket - we were stuffed halfway through our meals. The atmosphere in the evenings is casual, and the staff are friendly and attentive as well as willing to answer questions. Grab one of their BOGO coupons, and enjoy the heat.

Stopped here for dinner after reading the four star reviews on Yelp and was incredibly disappointed. The food, the service and the ambience are as bad as it gets. Our group of 5 stepped into a near empty restaurant and had to wait for 5+ minutes before we were acknowledged and seated. The lesser said about the food the better. All the food seemed premade and heated in a microwave. Overall, a very bad experience and I won't be back.

Food was okay. But the ambiance is not that good. Moreover the employs are very rude and don't know how to behave. The lady who sit in the front office is blunt. Horrible place.

I love this place. I don't live in Columbus anymore...I sure do miss it though. I had been going to New India for years before I moved. Never had a bad buffet or dinner. Whenever I'm in town, I make it a point to come back. Pros: -Amazing food. It's sooooo good. When I leave I'm happy. -Good variety in their buffet. Not watered down like many buffet places. -The aesthetic isn't fancy, but that's what I like about it. A true mom and pop restaurant. -I like the service. (I feel I should address it since that's sometimes the knack against them). They aren't mean, they aren't jumping up and down. They're in the middle and I like that. I always thought they were attentive without being fake nice. The owners are nice people, if you want to get to know them you'll have to start the conversation. Cons: -hmmm....none! I highly recommend you try this place out.

We just finished at this restaurant, and I felt pretty good about it! I read the previous reviews, and for the most part, I concur. The food was a solid 4/5. I would have given it a 3 1/2 stars as the service was clumsy and not really warm at first. We got them to smile by the end. The decor was average for an Indian restaurant. Not at all modern, but thankfully not a bright white room with fluorescent bulbs either. As for the food went, it was really good. Not the best Indian I have ever had, but better than most. We had an order of Samosa, which had a nice tamarind sauce and mint sauce. There was a hot chutney that came with our pampadum that was nice. The poori perfectly cooked! As was the balsmati rice, which I really hate when it's over cooked. Theirs was perfect! Our entree's were a mushroom saag aloo and a peneer in red sauce. Both were wonderful! Hot, medium spiced, and delicious. The really great thing about this place was the large vegetarian/vegan/gluten free options. Major kudos to this restaurant for that! All in all, I would definitely come back to this place. Not a perfect date destination, much better as a gathering place for a colleague dinner or office celebration where the service attitude is a non issue. A solid dinner, well worth the money despite the average atmosphere. ~ Keida Mascaro

Came here because some girls I know are always raving about it. I have to state that I don't know them well! We walked in and we were immediately almost run down by staff. Not that they were hurrying, they were just all milling around by the door. We sat, two of us took turns using the gross bathrooms, we sat some more. Finally we grabbed a server and asker for water and a pitcher since we had an inclination of how our service would be the rest of the meal.. Now why you're reading this, the food. I can't remember anything memorable about this place other than the knuckle-sized bone in my boyfriend's rice. He hurt his jaw so badly biting down on it that we were seriously concerned he had cracked his tooth. Our servers response, a shrug and ," yeah, that's got goat in it." I about got up and left right then. Not because the food had meat in it, although I think I threw up in my mouth a bit, but because the service at this point was SO unbelievably bad I couldn't handle it. I think the chef that adds flavor to the food must have been out sick, prob from eating his own food, because everything was bland and tasted pretty much the same. This place is terrible. No wonder they have to pander business from coupons in in every mailer I have seen. Bad. Bad. Bad

Went back. Found hair in the buffet line. Ended up on my plate. Was tough eating after that. How the fuck do you let a long black hairs get in the food? Now i don't trust the place as much.

Here's the thing with New India: the food is 5 stars, but the service is horrible, so you've got to know that going in. Save yourself and just get the take-out. Or better yet, opt for Amul India, around the corner on Sawmill Rd and 5 stars all around. Anyway... chicken tikka masala is what you'd expect, creamy and spicy and delicious. Hubby orders the extra hot and I usually get hot or medium, and you can tell the difference just in the brightness of the sauce! Their naan is always great too, we've had plain, garlic, and aloo (potato - its the best one). Mango Lassi is only $2 and well worth it. Skip the gulab jamun - its only $2 too but you only get TWO of them. Service: really, really bad. They will not escort you to a table, they won't say a word except "what do you want?". I don't know if they hate their jobs or what, but its all of the servers. And you can't blame it on the language barrier - they always get my order spot on. And you can't blame the culture because every other Indian restaurant we love is super nice to their customers.

I've been going to this restaurant the past year now about every 2 months and I absolutely love it. The customer service is great along with the food. I typically get the chicken curry which is great. If you love goat, you'll adore the goat curry which is what my bf gets. They always have deals on groupon which is even more of an incentive to me. Best part is they don't skimp on portions. Best Indian food in town. I drive half an hour for it.

  • Lauren F.

The food here is good but no better than any other Indian restaurant in Columbus. However, the service was so terrible it ruined the whole experience. They weren't just bad servers, they were rude and were openly hostile towards their customers. They also refused to honor a Groupon I had, citing some fine print that didn't exist. Why do they advertise on Groupon if they don't want people to use Groupons? Anyway, won't be returning, try Tadka instead.

We go to New India regularly. There is always a Groupon or Living Social voucher to be had. I like the food here a lot... not the friendliest service though. The best Naan of any of the Indian places we have been to. The lunch buffet is also a good deal- but if you like your food spicy it will leave you unsatisfied.

  • Holly C.

Came here for the lunch buffet on a weekend before and weekday (they're the same I believe). It wasn't anything amazing, but it wasn't bad either. I think if you want to sample Indian food by trying a little bit of everything or you need to satisfy a quick craving but don't have time to order and wait for them to cook something, then this is a good option too. The service hasn't gotten a teeny tiny bit friendlier than when I was there before, but it wouldn't hurt for them to crack a little smile or be a bit more polite.

I've never ordered a sit-down meal at this restaurant, so my review and rating are only based on the buffet. When it comes to bang-for-your-buck, this may be the best Indian buffet around. Including taxes, it costs around $7.50 per person. There's a decent spread of options, from soup (typically lentil or chicken noodle) to appetizers to naan (both regular and garlic) to vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes (there are some mainstays, but at least one of each is alternated on a rather regular basis) to multiple dipping sauces to desserts. Both soups are rather tasty, and especially good on cold winter days. The dipping sauces range from mild to spicy, but are all rather tasty. My favorite of the entree options has to be the Chili Chicken. It's probably the spiciest of the buffet dishes, and appears to be a mainstay. As far as desserts go, I almost always save room for some jelabi. The service was lacking when I first started going to this restaurant, but has improved since that time. Buffet rating: 5 out of 5 stars Service rating: 3 out of 5 stars Overall rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I think I found the perfect solution to the great food/awful service dilemma that others have mentioned regarding the New India restaurant. My dining-in experience about a year ago was so awful due to the rude and sullen service that I didn't remember whether the food was any good. I didn't even want to bother doing takeout for fear of encountering the same rude staff at the counter when picking up my order. However, after reading some of the Yelp reviews about the great food, I decided to order via Cafe Courier. My food has been delivered on-time, piping hot and delicious. And the person who delivers my food has always been pleasant and efficient. I've had the aloo naan (Mashed potatoes stuffed), Tandoori chicken, Lamb biryani, mixed vegetables in curry sauce, and several of their chutneys. All were wonderful and reasonably priced. The tandoori chicken was the best chicken I've had in any dish from any cuisine. Until the Yelp reviews universally reassure me that the service has improved, I will choose to go elsewhere when I want to go out for Indian food. As an introvert, I don't want to waste my social energy being in places where I feel my presence is not welcome. But New India has become my favorite place when I want to order delivery.

It's rare to find a restaurant that consistency provides a great experience. After dozens of visits to the New India Restaurant, I have never been disappointed. The amazing aroma meets you at the door. Each selection explodes with fine rich colors and the flavors will fill your soul with true comfort. For a rich authentic consistent experience, I recommend the New India Restaurant.

I came over today and had the buffet. It was great as before but I still don't know enough about Indian food to know what I ate. But the buffet only cost me $8 and I thought that was a pretty good deal.

There are so many restaurants in this strip mall that it's hard to tell where any particular smell is coming from when you're in the parking lot. Then you start heading toward New India, and it starts to get more distinct. Not coincidentally, this is right about where it hits you just how hungry you are and how, yes, Indian food was the right decision tonight. The restaurant was about a third full when I went at dinnertime on a Friday. Service (to go) was efficient and businesslike. With "businesslike," I'm choosing a positive way of noting that the woman who rang me up had no smiles or chit-chat or even much in the way of a thank you, but it wasn't necessarily something to complain about. Two things I particularly like about New India, and one of them is the food. Have never had any complaints about the food. I had the chana saag (chickpea spinach curry) this time, and despite its sludge-like appearance, it tasted like a spice party where green veggies were everyone's date. Man, that was a terrible metaphor. But the dish was good. The naan is fluffy and warm, and it absorbs the curry perfectly. The other thing I particularly like consists of these eleven words: "Entrees 9 to 21 can be made vegan at your request." This appears in the vegetarian section of the menu. It's always helpful when the establishment makes it easy to figure out what and how to order like that. Plus, thirteen dishes give the vegan or otherwise dairy-free diner a lot to look forward to. And I do look forward to the next one.

Basically the buffet was empty when I got there at 2:30pm, I had the last tandoori chicken and a little bit of butter chicken. They were out of goat (I came actually for the goat meat) and when I prompted the waitress about it she said that we are not adding more, we are out. I told the them that if your menu is almost empty then you probably shouldn't let me in or any other customers in that manner. Overall, bad experience. if you want a full menu you need to go way early, don't waste your time or money after 2:00p.m

I'm excited to have found New India! They have amazing naan and will actually give the food some spice when asked. I'm guessing they took all of the negative reviews to heart because we were well taken care of with a smile! We used the yelp $20 for $10 deal and had no problems. 5 stars!

Decided to try this place because of the yelp deal being offered. I was not disappointed! Pretty standard prices for Indian food. Flavors were wonderful, had lamb vindaloo, chicken Tikka Masala. Also had the mixed grill appetizer, but don't think we would get it again, not that it was bad, but it wasn't particularly amazing. Staff was attentive as far as filling drinks goes and they had no problem taking my voucher. They were not extremely friendly but that sort of thing doesn't bother me too much. Overall, great experience and really delicious food. Will go back very soon!

Meh. Here's the thing.. The food is SO good, but every time that we've gone, the service is just... bad. The very first time I went here, no "hello" or "how are you", not even a smile. The waitress literally tossed our menus on the table and asked us "drinks?". If they had waited a minute or two maybe we would have ordered a beer (more $$ for them). No help with recommendations, I felt nervous about what I was ordering and ended up getting a vegetarian sampler of some sort. The food was awesome. I ended up taking half of it home because the portions were huge, but I can't complain about that. My date got a really spicy dish (i can't remember the name of it). He loved it but we struggled to get refills on our water the whole meal. He had to borrow mine. I am a generous tipper but at the end of our meal I didn't feel great about giving my money to someone who was so rude to me. I tip well even on so-so service, I understand bad service if a restaurant is packed but we were the only table. If they had at least been "nice" to me our waitress would've been left 20%. I would rather get take out or something from here, not sure if they offer it but both times that we've gone to eat here we've received the same level of service. I'll give them a few more chances but I don't think I can keep going to a restaurant where the service makes me feel bad for being there, lol.

Since it was my first time here I ordered the Tandoori Mixed Grill so I could try multiple things and it was excellent and a huge portion. Each item was spiced well with different spices for each and cooked well. Also ordered the Garlic Naan and I am a garlic fiend so it was delicious. Tried my friends Dal and Saag Paneer and they were also very good. I am looking forward to coming back. Had read reviews so I was prepared for the service which I personally thought was good. So what if I don't get a smile, I was served politely and well.

I was pleasantly surprised when my meal was finished. After months of looking for a new restaurant to replace my old go to (Sher-ri-Punjab) I have found my replacement. All the comments about the mood of the wait staff were unrealized during my experience. If you are looking for a good Indian restaurant in northern Columbus I say give New India a try.

I moved to Ohio and was disappointed by other Indian restaurants other than Aab and Tadka. I tried carry out of vegetable biryani from here and liked it very well. So took a girl on date to the same place. She wanted chicken tikka masala and we ordered it along with vegetable biryani and garlic naan. To my surprise, the first chicken piece I ate, it was just chewy and I had to take it out of my mouth. The next one was the same. Either the chicken was undercooked, or the meat was old or the whole curry was just reheated. I told them it was undercooked. I called the supplier. She said it is supposed to be like that !! I told her NO. She said she will tell the cook to cook it again. After 5 minutes, when the dish came, the chicken pieces were cut into smaller pieces. But it was still chewy ! It definitely means that either the curry was old or the meat itself was really old. I'll never go there again and also none of my friends will either. For a 30$ bill (actually, we should not have paid for the chicken tikka masala), we gave 7$ tip and still when we were leaving we said goodnight and she gave a straight face ! Wow. Food is as good as their behavior.

i had to literally LOL reading other reviews. as most here, i experienced the same the few times i have been here. food: 5 stars, service: 1 star. much to the amusement (and sometimes creating fear of our food being spit in ;-)) of people with me i try to get ANY of the staff to say one friendly word during our time there. When asked for our order i will make it a point to ask the waitress first how her day was and if she is doing alright or pay her compliments - anything to get a smile from someone. NO SUCCESS so far. if anyone finds out something that works - please let me know. i want to go here more often but feel stupid spending $ here where i feel unwanted and quite possible supporting a business that gets their service personnel from human traffickers ;-) as one must suspect if they really hated their job this much they would just quit if they could ;-) OH and they HATE coupons !! they will try and argue with you saying the coupon / groupon / whatever you have is only valid on days where the sun is shining with medium wind coming from the west and one person in the party is wearing a green sweater vest - it is HILARIOUS !

I'm keeping it short as I've done a few reviews already...... This one is just done right yummy. Wish the buffet was bigger as the food is delish, but it's definitely a keeper and we frequent often.

My favorite place for Indian food to date. Everything is amazing...I usually indulge with pakoras and baigan bharta with naan. Service is terrible but I hardly notice when I'm stuffed to the gills with good food!

I'm no real expert on Indian cuisine but I enjoy it and have had it often, and this place has a very good buffet that ranks up there. From my conversations with Indian friends, this appears to be Northern Indian cuisine which is typical of the majority of Indian restaurants in the US. We especially enjoyed the Chicken Chili on the buffet, something I've never seen before in any other restaurant (and no, it's nothing like American Texas chili in case you're wondering - it's definitely an Indian dish - I think the work Chili in the name reflects the chili pepper probably and has nothing to do with American Chili powder! I also enjoyed the goat meat which is something you don't always find, and their Tandoori chicken was surprisingly moist, unlike the overly dry stuff we unfortunately typically find elsewhere. Overall, we felt the buffet was a cut above the typical in quality. Spices were on the mild side, probably to suit the midwestern pallet but not too mild either, probably just about right, even for a guy that likes more heat than most. And the price is very reasonable ($8.50 I think for Sunday lunch, even cheaper with a coupon), much better than some of my more local Indian buffets for the same variety and equal or perhaps better quality!

I was craving a lunchtime Indian buffet and since Sheree Punjab was closed I found myself searching Yelp for local Indian eateries. I wasn't aware this place was so close to me , let alone existed! I'm not sure why others have complained about the buffet being small. It seemed to have the average things you'll find at any other buffet. I thought the Chicken Tika Masala was good. The Palek Paneer was ok. The naan and the veggie samosas were a little dry. The Pakora was tasty. The service was good. I thought I'd mention that since many others have written about bad experiences in that department. They were attentive with the water glass filling. The lunch buffet for 2 was only around $14. Not bad. A-Ok.

I both love and hate this place. The food is simply the best Indian food I have ever had, five stars all the way. Chicken Tikka Masala is a favorite, the naan bread is lovely (garlic is my fave), and so is just about everything else you can get here. The service and the décor are something else entirely. If I wanted to eat at a medium-security penitentiary, I'm sure I could find some hilarious way of getting myself put into one. Also, the staff makes me feel like I'm causing them a huge inconvenience by patronizing their restaurant. I usually get take-out, and I may start ordering through café courier to save myself from even the short interaction of walking in to pay.

I used to go to Taj Mahal for many years. It was my favorite! Indian food is my "last supper" sort of thing. We tried different places since Taj closed. Ohhhh....like every single Indian Restaurant. I thought I wouldn't survive unless I learned how to cook what I wanted. We ordered from here and it's EXACTLY what I needed. The spice is the perfect amount as well as flavor. We get Biryani spicy...chicken saag spicy...naan...and raita. So glad I found this place!

I am a vegetarian so I do not speak in regards to the whole menu. That said this is one of the best Indian places in Cbus. I do not feel it is as heavy as other places but still delivers. Their Dal is the best. Thicker and actually has lentils when compared to other places. My wife likes their eggplant. If you want spicy you need to state it. Priced fairly and never too busy during the week but they always have several customers there. They seem to do a good bit of carry out; not that i contribute to that.

I love this place. Definitely my favorite Indian in Columbus, in particular the lunch buffet. I have been coming to New India on a regular basis for the past 4 years and have sampled most of the menu and it's all delicious. My husband is vegetarian and is always pleased with his dining options. I saw some of the others comments about the service, but I actually enjoy it. Maybe it's just because they recognize us, but we always get big smiles and frequent drink refills. They are always very patient and kind to our 3 year old child, even though over the years she has sometimes been loud, messy and wanting to run around the restaurant. I love that they let you seat yourself, sometimes we just head to the back room :) If it helps, when we've got newbies in the group, we usually order the chicken tikka masala, lamb bhuna, bread basket of naan, and some samosas.

Best Indian in Columbus - can compete with New York. They know what gluten-free means. Friendly service. Decor is meh but I don't really care when the food is good. My only complaint is that Ras Malai is on dry side. Salted lassy was great. Bhindi Masala had great texture and flavor. Meat dishes were perfectly seasoned. We definitely will be back.

The food was amazing. The flavors were fantastic and the "hot" was perfect and just enough heat to have me sweating. I had the chicken biryani which was more than enough for myself. I brought up at least half of the serving and brought it to work. My coworker had a lamb vandaloo dish which was out of this world. I'd definitely come here again but unfortunately I gave up buffets for New Years so this place may need to wait. I'd highly recommend it. We got there around 5pm and it seemed that they did not have the heat on until more customers walked through the door. It was very cold. Also since my coworker and I were on separate checks, we were allowed to use 1 groupon and 1 google coupon.

Called ahead and specifically asked if they had chicken tikka masala. They said absolutely, and I placed my order. I picked up my food and when I got back it was a different chicken dish, not what I had ordered. The naan was also over cooked.

AHHHH! Hands down the best Indian buffet in town!!! We try to go at least once a month, but wish we could go more! They always offer at least 8 different dishes along with everything else you could want!

We had been to this place several times. It has the best vegetable biryani. The other dishes are also fine. The place is cozy with light music in the background from bollywood movies, and perfect for a couple or family to have a good time. Overall we love this place, and will be coming here again. The Yelp deal makes us consider coming here more often.

We went here with a groupon. We got one waiter that wasn't very friendly but it was ok. We got the chicken masala and it was good. Chicken curry was spicy and ok. Place is kind of expensive considering the locale. Plates range from 10 to 12. Atmosphere could be better. Place felt a little dark

Comparing to other Indian restaurants in Cbus, this one delivers great food at reasonable prices and expected service. I like the food here better than Aab's, but I also like Aab a lot. We tried their buffet a long long time ago and had talked about going back for the dinner menu. Was flipping through yelp reviews and New India came up with a $20 for $10 deal offering a great opportunity to try dinner. The food was tasty, flavorful without being overly creamy and buttery. The potato naan was amazing I would come back just for that and anything with the tamarind sauce. And they have goat curry! I also like the mango lassi here better than most places. Now about service... I'm not surprised about some of the comments on service, but I'll have to disagree. Service is great in context of expectations from a restaurant like this. Think about it. You're not paying for a Michelin star or hootie tootie restaurant (nothing wrong with those... I do enjoy eating at high end restaurants just as much as a good hole in the wall). The waitresses tonight were helpful, explained things when we asked, refilled water without asking, never hovered, even reminded me I had a groupon before they printed the receipt... that's great service in any Asian restaurant if you ask me. I also think its a cultural thing. My favorite Vietnamese restaurants in CA I joke have great food/prices and "poor service" because they don't need the fluff (I'm Vietnamese, btw). Same as how I would expect my server at a hipster bar to be more boisterous. It's all about context. So keep an open mind... talk to your servers and ask them questions you may have. You'll find they'll warm up quickly and are quite friendly people.
