I am pleasantly surprised. I'm not from mexico, nor did I live anyplace close to a state that made Mexican inspired food when I was old enough to remember what it was. But I do have a passion for terrific authentic, nonmassproduced, tacos, burritos, enchiladas you name it. Enter my move to Columbus, I have been disappointed with the restuarnts around here for great tacos. I know that there are wonderful food trucks, but I work all day, and don't have time to go to a lunch truck. Luckily for me, I was recommended by a friend to try La Casita. Went on a Saturday at 1 so it wasn't terribly busy, but the food still took longer then it should have. I ordered the 3 tacos and my goodness were they delicious. Seriously try these tacos. I ordered 3 different meats, the first of which was steak, which by itself was bland. But dip some in to the sauce that comes with the tacos, which is some sort of red Chiptole sauce and it is completely different. Just use the sauce sparingly, it had a good bit of a kick. The next came the adobada tacos, which were juicy, and full of flavor, and tender. add a spritz of lime juice and they were well worth the wait. The last, but not least was the pastor tacos. Pastor is sort of like a mexican insipred gyro. The pork is traditionally cooked on a revolving spit and then sliced when ordered. It has a wonderful sweet and spicy taste to it. The next time I come, I'm 3 of these. Tacos came with Beans and Rice, which were average, but made my meal complete. Salsa was better then cuco's and about on par with the other Mexican places in the capital city. I can't speak for the rest of the food, but based on my taco's that I had I don't think I'll ever want to try anything else.

La Casita needs some serious help. There's dirt and dust hanging from the drop ceiling, especially around the vents in the ceiling. And, no joking, two flies dropped dead right out of the air and landed on our booth. That pretty much ended the meal for me. Seriously, if the dining room is that dirty, what on earth does the kitchen look like? I don't even want to know.

This place is a bit of an acquired taste. It's more authentic mexican than americanized mexican by far. I stepped in on a wednesday with two other parties there and the service was so slow you'd think the place was full! I wouldn't recommend or frequent a second time.

The best Mexican food I have eaten in Columbus, which is not saying much. But this place is pretty good actually; far better than El Vaquero. I've had tongue tacos, fajitas, and stuffed red peppers here. All were very good. I think the shrimp stuffed peppers are the best thing I've eaten here. Chips and salsa are pretty good and the service is excellent.

This was quite possibly the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever been to. My sister was in from LA and she wanted to try it because it was close to my house and we've never been there. It started out okay...the salsa and chips were decent and we were hungry. My sister got a frozen margarita and they brought out a HUGE drink. She asked what size it was and the waiter said it was the jumbo size. The jumbo size was crossed out in the menu so we didn't even think that was an option so she asked for the regular size instead. When the waiter came back with her new drink, I thought it was a joke. It was so small, I'm not even sure it was 6oz. Needless to say $6 was way too much to pay for this sampler drink. I think our waiter was sober but it was hard to tell because I couldn't always understand him and he kept switching from English to Spanish. When we finally ordered, I recommended that my sister try the fish tacos since she was a vegetarian but she kept telling me that she was going to try something else. It wasn't until the waiter walked away that she told me the waiter said he wasn't sure if they had fish in the back for the fish tacos. No fish?! Weird. Needless to say, she was now wary of the fish so she ended up getting a cheese enchilada and beans and I got the three soft tacos (one chicken, two carnitas) and rice. It would be really hard to screw up my food so I would rate it as okay. I didn't like that the carnitas was served in big chunks vs. pulled but it wasn't a deal breaker. My sister's food however was a deal breaker. Not only did it look gross but it tasted gross too. She said it was extremely heavy and not appetizing. When the waiter finally came back he just looked at her and the food and said "You done." She said she didn't like it and that it was heavy and he just took her plate and left our table. No can I get you something else or sorry you didn't like your food...there was no adjustments on our bill. Nothing. By far the worst service and Mexican food in the city!

I haven't been here in a year or more and I was so disappointed at how much it had changed. They used to have a lovely queso dip and now it's a soupy mess. My chile relleno was ok but I remember it being so much better. It took forever for our meals to come and the patio (which is presumably an eating area) was filled with smokers.

When I first walked in to La Casita I was super excited. I love a place with atmosphere and boy do they have it. I felt like I was in so cal again. I liked there was a little bit of everyone in here. Anyway from this point it was all down hill. First off our waiter was drunk and way too friendly with me for my taste. The margaritas are just OK. For the price I wanted more. And if you're even a little iffy on salt with your margarita pass, they use a crazy amount of salt. The chips and salsa are just OK for a place that looks this authentic. I think I can get better tasting stuff at the grocery store. My friend who loves this place says their chips and salsa are OK. I ordered a fajita quesadilla, it was basically inedible. The cheese didn't taste right and the chicken was over cooked and under seasoned, where the veggies we cooked well but over seasoned. The service here was awful. I think we asked for more chips 3 times and we never got them. We asked for water twice before we got it. And we asked for more tortillas 2 times to never receive them.

This place is my favorite Mexican place in Columbus, hands-down. They have the best fish tacos I've ever had, and their margaritas are top-notch!

The boy and I got dinner at La Castia tonight - YUM. We actually tried to come here a couple weeks ago, but it was a friday night and the wait was 45 min, so we ended up going elsewhere. Needless to say, this only has made me want to go to La Casita more. Tonight, it was really low key and quiet, and there was a good amount of patrons enjoying an early Sunday dinner before the week starts up again. The service was excellent - very prompt and attentive and not at all overbearing. I always get all gooshy inside because the boy speaks Spanish to the waiters (and I speak not one word - well, okay, I know the word "mamacita" - of Spanish) and finds the most delicious things for this French girl to eat. NOM. Tonight, I had a chicken burrito and the boy had this amazing plate of grilled shrimp, steak, and chorizo - both of which we shared with each other. The burrito was probably the best I've had in Columbus; it was enormous, and I couldn't finish it all, but it was extremely well flavored and the chicken was juicy, and it came with a side of sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, onions, and tomato. The shrimp/steak/chorizo plate (sorry, I don't remember the name!) was excellent, and came with rice and refried beans, and was also too much to finish. We also ordered a side of grilled cactus (the Spanish word for which escapes me), which was very good - I'd never tried this before, and on it's own, I found it too salty, but mixed in with my burrito it was excellent. What I really liked about La Casita is that not only is it completely unpretentious, but it is not a hole in the wall, either. I agree with the reviewer that said it's family friendly, but not in the "tons of screaming kids" type of way - it's just comfortable, casual, and most of all, comforting. Since it's rainy and cold out, the warm plate and the delicious food really made my night. I definitely recommend checking out this little Mexican joint.

The last few time we have eaten here, the service has been terrible! On our last visit here, four tables were seated after us and their meals came out well before ours did. When we finally did get our food, 45 minutes after we ordered, there was a hair in our meal! They didn't even offer to replace the meal or apologize, which was very disturbing. And not to mention, the waiter was rude. All in all, it was a bad experience I used to really enjoy this place, but this was the last straw, they have lost my business. I will find a new Mexican restaurant who appreciates my business.

I just created my Yelp profile, and knew immediately that my first review had to be about La Casita. This is the best Mexican restaurant in Columbus. Hands down. I eat at La Casita at least once a week, because I just can't stay away. I stick to three steak tacos with corn tortillas, rice and beans. Cilantro and onions are also served on the tortillas...my mouth is already watering. Also amazing is the 64 - the fajita quesadilla. I am also sure to get the Queso dip to go with the tortilla chips. The Queso dip is out of this world. Also good is 25 (a burrito) and 55 (three enchiladas). Be sure to check out their margaritas - YUM!! The waitstaff are very friendly and attentive to their tables. The only improvement I would make would be to make the place even bigger. The wait can be about 30 - 45 minutes on Friday and Saturday nights (an eternity when waiting for the quality of food La Casita provides).

After reading the reviews here, I thought I'd put the claims that this is the best Mexican in Columbus to a test. My wife and I both got three tacos. She got two pastor tacos and one chicken. I got one pastor, one adobado, and one lengua. The pastor was a little underwhelming. I would get it again if I was there and in the mood for pastor but I wouldn't go back there for it. If I want pastor (and they're open) I'll go to Los Guachos, thank you. The lengua was kind of disappointing. I'm used to the lengua from the taco truck in my neighborhood (Taqueria Jalisco) which is l nice and tender. This was pretty chewy. I wouldn't get it again. The chicken taco was top-notch. The chicken was real tender and real juicy. The star of the show was the adobado, though. I've never had it before so it might be really bad adobado and I don't know it, but what I had was crazy good. It had a real nice spice to it, all around really flavorful. Some people would probably find it too greasy, but I thought it was perfect. Other notes: The tacos were served with a nice, spicy sauce. The tortilla chips were a little disappointing -- they tasted kind of stale, honestly. At just under $2/taco La Casita isn't the cheapest place to grab a taco, either. In general, I'd recommend (and will probably go back to) La Casita for the adobado and chicken tacos. But I wouldn't say it's the best Mexican in Columbus. For my money La Michoacana, Cuco's, and a number of taco trucks all beat this place.

I love La Casita. The Margaritas are good though not Cuco's good. But I think that the food is top notch. I always go for #31 the chimichangas, and every time I think they are better than the last time. The prices are quite good and they have a good Mexican beer selection. I don't know that this is the best Mexican food in the city as I am not an expert, but I do know that I enjoy eating here every change I get and have not been disappointed yet.

Love this place. This has become my go to Mexican restaurant and a go to restaurant in general. Though it is always busy, it never takes long to be seated and the service is always prompt. I love the chips and salsa and I have enjoyed every meal I have had here.

  • Marco G.

There isn't much that I liked about La Casita. Although the setting is comfortable enough and the unlimited chips were pretty good, there's not much that would make me want to go back. The burrito I ordered was very salty and dry. The tortilla was stale. How can you go wrong with a simple beef burrito? I wouldn't have minded the prices, but for less than fast-food quality, I felt a bit ripped off.

I was really craving Mexican and went here for the first time and was blown away. Their prices are incredible, food portions are huge, and the place is clean. The staff is super friendly with the waiters stopping to chat and get to know their customers and are very willing to help you get exactly the order you want. Definitely going to go back.

The best mexican food I've ever had. The food is always awesome and the prices are great for the portions that they give us. I got drunk off one margarita, which they definitely don't skimp on. The complimentary chips and salsa is homemade. Their queso sauce is awesome. The staff could be a bit more attentive, but the food is so good, I don't even care.

Another of those Mexican establishments I've frequented since they opened. Was truly a fan of La Casita, my number one place for Mexican, making the long drive to Bethel Road to get my fix. Years went by, we kept returning. Food was always awesome. Drinks were always good. They invested in themselves, freshening up the decor, making improvements (somehow overlooking the restrooms) changing up the menu and delivering quality experiences. Slowly, sadly, changes started to happen. At first, the food would vary greatly in taste from visit to visit. It was never bad, just that the same meal would differ radically. Then one visit wouldn't be so great, the next fine, successive ones so-so until ultimately not-so. In olden days, the owner was there many of the visits, certainly we'd recognize several of the servers. The past couple of years the familiar faces are gone, and so has the quality. I should give them two stars, but they would have once earned five for what they were. Grading on a curve, perhaps.

IGood Food! This would be the 4th time I have been to this location. This time I tried the Margaritas and was not wowed. Unlike other ratings below it had enough alcohol but had a very standard flavor. The service was par at best. If you are looking a quality meal at a quality price, do not hesitate to stop in and eat.

Definitely the best Mexican food in Columbus (is that even a compliment?). They do have good food and amazing salsa. Drinks are always poured strong here, or maybe I just always luck out since I typically sit at the small (4-5 person) bar? Sitting at the bar also means I get very personal service, joking with the staff members the whole time and attempting to decipher Spanish. Nice little patio, too, but rarely get to use it due to the lovely Columbus weather ;)

Best fish tacos I have ever had. Get them with the onion and cilantro but get flour tortillas instead of corn tortillas (if that's what you prefer) and make sure to ask for some lime for squeezing. Ordering the fish tacos this way really confuses them, but it is definitely worth it. Their Margaritas are good and service is usually pretty good. Their smoked pork chops (chuletas ahabuelas, I believe is what they are called) are also really delicious. I would never go to El Vaquero if I have the choice to go here.

My new favorite mexican restaurant in Columbus. The wait staff has always been receptive and the bean enchiladas can't be beat. My son loves the jarritos sodas as well. Must Mexican Eats!

La Casita is a tiny little orange house-like restaurant on Bethel Road. Upon entering you will find a friendly, family-oriented atmosphere (but no, this doesn't mean screaming kids)--there are a couple big-screen TVs and Mexican music playing. Comfortable setting and not too loud (unless you go after a football game). Yes, you can expect unlimited tortilla chips and salsa as soon as you're seated. The chips are large, golden, just slightly salty perfection, and the slightly watery fresh salsa is nice and spicy. As for drinks, La Casita has the standard Mexican beers as well as the usual domestics. Opt for a Modelo or a Negro Modela--it goes great with the chips. And of course, they serve up gigantic, frosty margaritas that happily do not skimp on the tequila. As for the food--it's a fresher, tastier take on Mexican favorites than any other place in Columbus offers. My favorite dish is the shrimp fajitas. These come out steaming and sizzling hot in their own cast-iron skillet, filled with generous chunks of beautiful green peppers, onions, and plump shrimp. Thank god--finally a place that does not skimp on the shrimp! These are the real deal--not the frozen, tiny, limp little cocktail shrimp thrown into so many fast-food-ish dishes. Along with this, you get a little container of warm flour tortillas and a plate with totally decent rice, refried beans, lettuce and sour cream. Everything I've ever tried there has been delicious and fresh, but still with that comforting Mex-American taste. They have a million menu items for those who are picky, and while there is a lot of standard fare, there are many, many more traditionally Mexican dishes (such as Mole and Oaxacan style chicken) for the more adventurous. Service is always prompt and friendly without being overbearing at all, and feel free to practice your spanish, they won't look at you weird. Best of all, it's inexpensive! In sum...best Mexican in Columbus. Don't tell too many people about it though--you'll want to keep it your secret!

In my quest for a decent Mexcian restaurant in the Northwest Columbus area, I wanted to try Cuco's but they are closed on Sunday so I decided to try La Casita instead. This is definitley a place where the rating depends on what you order. We sampled 3 types of tacos, 3 types of enchiladas, tamale and Chile rellenos. We found the tacos absolutely great -- The perfect amount of cilantro and onions and really flavorful spices on each type of taco. The tacos are served with an awesome spicy taco sauce that has somewhat of a kick. We especially liked the Fish taco and the Pastor Taco (pork marinated in a spicy sauce). The tamale was also good ... not bland and had lot of flavor. The Chile rellenos were just ok ... kind of mushy texture. The enchiladas are better at other places. If you go there definitely try some of the tacos ... there are at least 9 filling to choose from. You can choose different shells, but we found the soft corn tortillas to be the best. This place was pretty busy for a Sunday night. If you want a table outside, call ahead or you may have a wait.

Not quite as good as California Mexican obviously, but the best in Columbus. Food is good (my usual is the 3 soft corn tacos - fish and carnitas are particularly good). The huge margaritas are awesome - quality liquors and a really good margarita mix. Very reasonably priced, consistent with prompt service. 4 stars overall (3 for food, 5 for kick-ass margaritas).

In the style of Mi Mexico, El Vaquero, and other popular chain restaurants, La Casita provides a fairly accurate representation of Mexican food. The servers are mostly Hispanics, the décor is sunsets and palm trees and large colorful birds, and the beer selection includes both Dos Equis and Negro Modelo. It's the food, albeit an almost line-by-line recreation of any other menu, that sets it apart from those chain restaurants. La Casita is a small place with limited parking. It's best to go around three in the afternoon to ensure you get a parking spot and a table with no wait. The best thing about La Casita is that aside from Fiesta Jalisco, they have the best English-speaking staff I've encountered. And they're friendly! When I went the last time with a friend of mine, we got there when it was a peak time, but our waiter was still attentive. I ordered the chimichanga (of course) and he got a seafood burrito of some sort. Most entrees come with beans and rice, and they start you off with chips and salsa. My favorite part about La Casita is that if you ask, they will give you the spicy super hot salsa. Mix this with their house salsa and yum yum yum you've got yourself a winner. I enjoy their chimichangas more than most other places because they make two mini chimichangas and serve them side by side on a bed of lettuce and drench them with queso blanco. There's nothing like cutting through a film of melted cheese into the crisp shell and releasing the flavorful meat on the inside of a La Casita chimichanga. In general, La Casita is a nice place to go if you're tasting for some Mexican food on a Tuesday night. The prices are fair, the atmosphere is nice, and the food is great. Overall Scores: (1-5, 1 being lowest, 5 highest) Cleanliness: 4 Value: 4 Accessibility: 4 Friendliness: 5 Menu: 3

Being advertised as an "authentic" Mexican restaurant, I would have expected much better. Portions are big and if that is what pleases you, then this might be the place for you. A few things to look out for: Burritos - the tortilla actually tastes like the packaged stuff...stale, plasticky, cold and all. I had better even at Chipotle. The cevice is quite bland while the blackened tilapia looked like it was still frozen. Also, they do give you a lot of corn chips as appetizer, but they are the cheap, hard kind...and the salsa is automatically spicy, so make you ask for mild if you can't take it. The service is not too great - somebody in my party spilled water on the table and ended up having to clean it themselves because the waiters were too busy having fun. Also, orders are a nightmare. If you go with a party bigger than 3, you better remember you item number because otherwise it will take you a while to figure out what you got.

Ok, so I admit I'm here way more than I should be, but I can't help it! The atmosphere here is so cozy and family-like. I've never had a problem with service, and haven't had anything off the menu that I didn't just love! The portions for the price are great, and so is their happy hour! I particularly recommend their queso dips (they have a few choices) and anything with their chorizo. It's so easy to meet some friends, get a pitcher (or 2!) of margaritas and enjoy great food without feeling rushed.

I will never eat here again. I've never had a good meal here but I was always forgiving because I liked their patio. The last time I went, the service was almost as bad as the food. We were seated outside, but it seriously took ten-fifteen minutes before anyone came over to ask if we wanted anything to drink. We waited about a half hour after getting our margaritas before he came back to take our order. When it arrived it was mediocre to be kind. The server kept apologizing throughout the experience but he never improved. He even took forever to bring the check, and apologized again. Since the crap food was unable to deter me from returning in previous trips, the combination of a bad meal with terrible service should do the trick, there are better Mexican places in the area anyway. Don't go here unless you prefer mall food court style Mexican food that caters to people who don't know any better.

visited recently after hearing people rave about this place as having the best chips 'n' salsa in columbus, etc. restaurant was packed at 8pm on a monday night, so that boded well. chips 'n' salsa were good, but nothing earth-shattering (i've had comparable at Senor Antonio's and better at Cuco's). friends got margueritas which were enormous and waaay strong (which can be a good or bad thing). whenever i go to a mexican restaurant, i always get tacos. i figure it's the staple of mexican cuisine, the measure of how good a mexican place really is. that being said, i ordered 4 tacos (chorizo, pastor, adobo, and fish). the only thing that separates La Casita from other taquerias i've visited is their fish taco, which is delicious and decently priced. my friends were very satisfied with their massive burritos and fajitas (the vegetarian burrito was fantastic and especially good for greedy carnivores by adding choice meat!). i did not like the ceviche. in no way do i claim to be a connoisseur of ceviche, but i always assumed it was basically a simple dish of fish, lime juice and vegis. this ceviche was extremely pungent of salt and pickly flavor, without much actual fish. food aside, i found myself feeling feverish after a while simply because the restaurant is suffocating. they do have an outdoor seating option which in retrospect, probably would've have been a better choice in nice weather.

Good chimichangas. I want to love this place because their margaritas are good too-but the service is the worst I've ever had. Everytime the service is terrible. After giving us our food and not coming to our table at all for more drinks or anything or waiter this time says, "I'll bring you the check." Um, okay sure. Then he never brings it and I ask another waitress for it and he comes outside and goes, "yeah, ma'am?" Imagine that being said very rudely. And I'm a VERY easy customer and am overly nice. So yeah, never going back. Sad to say

This is our go-to Mexican restaurant. Best salsa and margaritas in town! They're very Limey and clearly not loaded down with sour mix. Just the way I love them. I absolutely love their carnitas or pastor tacos with cilantro and onions. My husbands favorite: the fajitas del mar. I take a lot of pleasure in stealing his scallops. You can eat here for under $30 for 2 people. The service is always great too! We eat here a few times a month and have always have a great meal.

One of our favorite places in Columbus for mexican. We like it better than Cucos and El Vaquero. Great prices. Chimichanga is great the Talipia is the best deal in town. Ask for Lorenzo. He's the man.

3.5 stars My BFF (since we were 4) and I used to come here pretty regularly, and we absolutely loved it. We would have delicious cheesy goodness, margaritas, and even better gossip. In my mind, La Casita was more like 4 or 5 stars. Fast forward to today, over a year since my last visit, and no BFF in tow (she moved)... everything was good, but maybe I just romanticized this place too much? Don't get me wrong--the food is good. In particular, their chips, salsa, and queso are outstanding. The chips are big and fresh (not those stupid pieces), the salsa is tomato-y and cilantro-free, and the queso comes in a boat twice as big as many places. The margaritas are so delicious and relatively cheap. As for our main courses, everything was just a'ight. Of the three of us, none of us were blown away. My two companions both ordered burritos, and I had the honey chicken. Everything was fine--nothing was great. I think if you're on this side of town, you won't go wrong with La Casita, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here. I also think if you're just looking for chips, dips, and margaritas with your bestie--this is a delightful spot for that to happen.

Go somewhere else! We have been coming to la casitas for over 10 years. This was the first adventure our son went on at a week old. Ownership has changed again and the family feel and charm is gone, so is the quality of the ingredients and food. I will sum it up by saying that when the country's 3rd best taco restaurant is half a block away and you now charge for chips the focus of the new owners is slightly off. I am sorry to say that we have eaten our last meal at la casitas.

Have come here a couple times with friends and really like it. The menu is very extensive and everything looks good - my only complaint is I can't have it all =). Last time I went I got a dish with chorizo and chicken, which was yummy. The portions are huge so you get your money's worth too. I've also found the wait staff to be good. Oh, and go early, because this place gets packed!

I met my co-workers here for lunch. It was a great little restaurant I never knew about until they suggested it. I did look through all the Yelp reviews and pictures prior to coming here and I ended up going with the chimichanga lunch special. It was reasonably priced. It consisted of a deep-fried burrito shell with a cheese sauce over it. On the side I had beans, sour cream, pico de gallo and guacamole. It's good this restaurant had TV's my co-workers were just so happy Days of Our Lives was on. They could not stop talking about the stars on there. I think I would come back soon to introduce the hubby to it. Anyways I got to get that picky eater to try things, before we make more picky eaters in the future!

We really like this place . We will definitely be back . We were looking for a great tasting authentic Mexican place compared to our old hometown . This place is def a close . We have been detaching several restaurants and this is my favorite out of the ones we have tried in area. Great margarita and descent service

So La Michoacana closes early on Sunday's so we wound up at La Casita. A relatively awesome star rating and some Yelpers I trust reviewed it as pretty positive. Man. Salsa, mostly not exciting. Chips were good though. I ordered chimichangas and the partner got tacos. Food came, all looked promising. Beans on the runny side, the veggies in the rice looked to have seen their fair share of reheating, and the guacamole looked great but I never got to that. And then I cut into the chimichangas. I cut into the one meant to be beef first. I was worried based on what it looked like. Of course then I tasted it and made my partner taste it too. Jeeze. Seriously!? The beef was completely inedible. Cat food mush, that was the texture. I cook constantly (and very well) and have no idea how you even get beef to that texture. I have never in my life sent food back due to low food quality until tonight. We're talking not even prison institution grade meat here. I thought the beef 'taco bell' texture at Cuco's Taqueria was horrible but some how La Casita's is worse. I sent it back. When asked if I wanted something else, I declined. My appetite was totally gone at that point.

Starting to go here regularly, we love the food but the service is super slow even when you're the only one in the restaurant. Totally recommend their food and margaritas though!!

Excellent Mexican restaurant. The salsa is phenomenal, a slight peppery taste that gives it an excellent distinction. I got a chicken burrito and my husband got a taco salad. Both wonderful. The rice has peas and carrots mixes in, for added flavor. My chicken was tender and seasoned to perfection. Guacamole to die for. Their salsa, has a slight pepper taste. Among other amazing flavors. The salsa is really what will keep me going back, I have had dreams about it. Crispy golden brown chips to compliment such a wonderful salsa. The atmosphere is a little like a dive, but the food seriously makes up for it! We left stuffed, happy and yet still wanting more. High recommended!

Bonus points for being in an old Long John Silvers. The chimichangas were tasty and the portions were large. The queso appetizer is delicious and the guacamole isn't bad. A good option for Mexican food--it feels more authentic than most Cbus Mexican joints.

We are regulars here. It's a cute, cozy place. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with the food but it doesn't blow you away necessarily. For the money though, I'd say this is one of the best mexican places in columbus. Better than El vaquero for sure and the prices are reasonable. It satisfies our mexican crave which is often and the staff are friendly and helpful. Margaritas are good too!

La Casita had been a constant blip on my radar screen due to its location across from Winking Lizard on Bethel. The restaurant's outdoor trimmings of faux icicle lights and Alamo-style presentation shouts "Marguerita". So last night a friend and I made the trip. Saturday night at 7:30PM is dinner time and La Casita was very busy. We had to take a number and wait 15 minutes to get a small booth. The smiles on everyone's faces who were dining made me think the food was good and the drinks strong. There is a smallish bar in the rear and that group was living it up. La Casita is tiny inside yet it has an outdoor patio - very good move! I'll wager their summer & fall business booms there. After our wait and seating we had a server who was doling out a heavy Mex-Latin accent. Okay, so we had to ask more than once what he was saying. That stung a little but we weren't in any hurry. Chips and salsa came out in quick fashion. I enjoyed the goblet sized marguerita on the rocks and it was a homerun. Chimichangas were ordered, both chicken and beef. The 'changas came with a white queso-type sauce drizzled over the top. A heaping helping of mex-rice, beans and fixing that were lettuce, pico, sour cream and guacamole was very nice. Food took only about 10 minutes with the restaurant slammed and it arrived very hot. This "man of La Mancha" will return to La Casita for a burrito and I want to try their fajitas, too. If both are as good as the chimichangas..... we're moving to 5-stars. Yes sir!

I ate chicken fajitas there last night and woke up puking my brains out with terrible food poisoning. I told my neighbor about it and she said she got food poisoning there last summer. I never got food poisoning before and to make sure I don't again I will never eat there again. Terrible.

I like this place. The food is good. But moping while guests are dining is disgusting. No one wants to smell the strong chemical you a moping with while they eat. It's rude and gross.

It's hot. Real hot and good. Imagine David Beckham under a waterfall. Thats how hot, good, and tasty it is.

I had heard great things about La Casita and have visited a few times. The first time was with my family mid-week for dinner. I was surprised that there was a 20 minute wait on a Thursday. But, it's super tiny inside and if it's packed...well, that's a good sign. The decor is definitely unmistakably Mexican. Crazy rainbow colored chairs with exotic animals carved into them, Telemundo soap operas on the TVs, walls lined with ornate paintings... basically wonderful in that weird weird way. The small size of the dining area makes it almost feel like you are actually in someone's home - again, not a complaint. On my first visit I tried something out of the ordinary (dumb move for a new place, I know). It was just okay. The second visit I got a trio of tacos with different meats. The carnitas was pretty fatty, but good. The chicken and barbacoa were both good. Rice and beans were...rice and beans. Overall a good meal, but nothing spectacular. My biggest complaint about this place is the last two times I've been here the service was so so slow. Thank god for the beauty/talent/hilarity competition on Telemundo or bf and I would have fallen asleep waiting on our water refills/napkins/check. I want to like this place because it's not El Vaquero and I want to have a favorite Mexican spot. Not sure this is it, but I'm sure I'll give it another try or two.

Thus far, this is the best Mexican food I've had in Columbus! It also happens to have a large menu with decent prices. I ordered the Pastor Burrito and it didn't let me down! My husband had the chicken burrito and it was delicious as well. I agree with others about their salsa, it's not that great which is really surprising, because their pico de gallo and guacamole is excellent! Will definitely return!!!

Soooo good. Food, atmosphere and service was outstanding. It's also reasonably priced. Get the barbacoa tacos with cilantro. Yummy

I just love this place. From the delicious salsa to the bomb margaritas, La Casita is hard to beat. After driving by La Casita all the time, my friend and I decided to check it out, and it has been history ever sense. First of all, La Casita looks like a house (hence its name is house in Spanish). It's easy to drive by this place not knowing it even exists. The food is authentic and just truly delectable. I always get the shrimp fajitas. The veggies are fresh and the shrimp are big! My dad and I eat at La Casita every time my mom has bunko or something else going on. He is now a huge fan as well. If you also want a cool server, Lorenzo is your guy. Funny, fast and bought my dad a shot on his birthday! Woo hoo!

Not the best margaritas in town, but their food has always been decent! The ceviche is delicious. Service is ok, although a lot of times I've gone there I feel a bit rushed by the server.

Awful experience. Most unorganized and rude wait staff. Can't even comment on food bc they were so unorganized we never even got it after 45 mins.

I could call this 3.5 stars, because its just a bit above average. Its your standard, run-of-the-mill inexpensive sit down mexican restaurant that has most of the basics. The marge are pretty good, not the best, but I enjoyed them. I probably won't be back, but that is because there is quality mexican abundant in the area. But if you venture to this place, its not a bad place to be.

I would have given this place 4.5 stars if they: 1. got my order correct (ordered three supreme tacos-- one chorizo, one pork, and one pastor -- they brought out two of something and one pork all were not supreme); 2. brought out the extra chips I asked for, 3. filled up my water glass sooner than 15 minutes after I asked and/or filled it up more than once and/or brought our table a pitcher of water. 4. brought the bill back sooner, and 5. brought my companion's avocado side item around the time her food came out rather than after she finished her meal. Place was pretty crowded on a Sunday evening. Food was pretty incredible. I ate what they brought me rather than what I ordered. It was served at a hot temperature, and I really liked it a lot. IMO the tacos tasted better than Haas and Los Guachos Taqueria. I will be back again regardless of the hiccups.

I did not plan on coming here as I was headed across the street,, but a packed house brought me here. I am glad I came over for Saturday lunch. I spent $17 for two and had enough to bring home for a snack and lunch tomorrow. The inside is very charming and cozy. It is actually bigger inside then I thought. The food was splendid. I ordered One Taco Al Pastor (1.99) and #14 on the lunch menu (Relleno and Tamale- 6.99). The lunch portion comes with refried beans and rice. I like their bean dish. The tamale was filled with chicken and pretty good. The Relleno was packed with chicken and I am still waiting to eat 3/4 of it but it was good. The best part was the Taco- Next time I am only getting tacos here. The sauce that comes with the Taco is spicy and very tasty. The salsa had a nice bite to it which pleased my wife and I. My wife went with the Chimichange lunch portion. She was disappointed with the actual size but liked the taste. It seemed small compared to other places but it was packed with meat so that helped make up for it. She was also full by the end of the meal so I guess it wasn't too small. Service was good and polite the whole time even with my daughter making a mess. They bring out the food hot which is nice to see. Service was also very quick. I would pick this place over the El Vaquero and Casa Patrons of the area.

I have been to La Casita several times over the years, and always have a great time. It is a very cute small authentic Mexican restaurant! Great place to go on a date or grab a big group of friends together. Last time I went it was about 6 girlfriends and we had the best time. I think all we ordered was all of the chip dips (the sausage cheese dip is my favorite!) and JUMBO MARGARITAS! We had a blast here. I would definitely recommend this place.

  • Janet L.

Good find, the food was pretty tasty, the frozen margarita (topshelf) was strong! We had three tacos and a quesadilla. Good stuff. The only negative, was the salsa tasted like can tomato sauce. Ordered some pico and that was fresh and spicy. Service was good, clean all around. Will go back !

Good good and drinks are just a memory now. One the past year the quality of everything had went down. I understand the economy went to crap, and businesses took a hit, but they were a great business here and no need for continuation of cut backs. The quality of food went down but nothing like the drinks. Drinks use to be amazing but the last 5 times I was here, they have been horrible. For 27.99 for a pitcher my sister and i should be feeling great before leaving. But no I have to add a shot or drink a beer. Not to forget the stomach ache from all the sour mix. Even the servers are unhappy and the at atmosphere is dead. Don't waste your money.

Bizarre experience there last weekend. A group of us all ordered individual margaritas. I ordered lime/frozen/no salt (can't stand the salt). It came with salt, so I mentioned it wasn't what I ordered. SO, the waiter ACTUALLY wiped the orange that was on the rim around the glass and then told me to just drink from the straw! All of us at the table were dumb-founded. Unbelievable. We were too hungry and tired to leave and go elsewhere. The food was decent, though. The experience will keep me from going back for a while, if ever.

My husband and I went for our NYE dinner this week; this was our first visit and we are now fans. The service was excellent, in particular, our server was quite witty and charming. The food was very good. I had 3 fish tacos with rice & beans. The sauce for the tacos was too spicy for me, but now I know. We shared a 1/2 pitcher of margaritas. We'll go back soon.

I've never ordered anything besides their taco's here. Because they're delicious. And they have lengua tacos (beef tongue). And it's delicious. The restaurant is small with a outside seating area for the summer months. They have imported Mexican beers (huge plus) and free chips/salsa (also, huge plus). Good place to add to your list of go-to Mexican restaurants.

Another one of my favs. All the servers are very nice and it is one of only 3 places in CBus that I am aware of having ceviche...a big thing with me. Their tacos are excellent as are their burritos and enchiladas! The tacos are a bit more flavorful than one of my favs around the corner plus, after you've completed your FAA medical exam, hoping the FAA doesn't find a reason to deny you your certificate, you can walk over and wash down a freshly made margarita, unlike so many plastic bottle conceived margaritas at most other Mexican restaurants around town. Mmmmm, Margarita:)

This is my favorite Mexican food restaurant around Columbus. The food is simple which makes it delicious and easy to get an authentic meal. I've had the ground beef tacos and enchilada and it's really the only place I've found that doesn't go overboard with salt. The salsa they serve with the chips is fantastic and the service is genuine, friendly, and attentive. The rice and beans are perfect. I didn't care for the cheese enchilada and the bean dip is mostly cheese/queso with very little beans. The setting is welcoming and casual which add to the enjoyable atmosphere. Prices are reasonable and there is a happy hour which offers great deals.

This restaurant is really great! Every time I'm here, my server is friendly and timely. I personally recommend any of their burritos, salads, or their honey chicken. I have heard good things about the tacos as well...Their house margaritas are also to-die-for. The nice thing about La Casita is that you can come here for dinner with family, drinks with friends, a quick bite, or to celebrate a special occasion, and you will receive the same friendly, authentic service. I'd come here over El Vaquero any day. In fact, this is the restaurant I chose to have my last birthday dinner at!

I'm not sure why I keep coming here. The food is OK and the wait staff is always incredibly handsy with the female customers. Maybe it's my fascination with Mexican food that has kept me coming back, but after my experience the other night, I don't think that I'll be eating here ever again. I was here last night with a group of girlfriends for an impromptu girls night. First, it took us 20 minutes to even order our drinks. Fast forward another 20 minutes later and I had to flag down the server to even order. When I did this, he just coyly said no and walked away. 5 minutes later he comes back to finally take our orders. Cute, right? I ordered the white fish ceviche, to which he says, "Oooh, I wouldn't get that." Now I get being a little bit playful and screwing with your customers a touch, but it wasn't until I asked if there was something wrong with the food they were serving did he straighten up a bit. Another 20 minutes later and we finally got our food. My order was of course not correct and he just plain forgot someone else's order (shocking). Then, out of nowhere, the lechery begins. The server brings more drinks that we didn't order and looks at us like, hey let's drink up ladies. After this, he starts rubbing my back and shoulders. Now I let it slide the first time, but mind you, this happens to me and my girlfriends EVERY SINGLE TIME we come here without our husbands. Generally I've always been knee deep into my second or third margarita so I'm more inclined to let something inappropriate slide. But, last night I wasn't so forgiving. On the third touching incident, I finally told the server to knock it off and demanded the checks. Don't get me wrong, my ceviche was good and I really had a good time with my friends, so I gave this place two stars instead of one. But unless you want terrible service and to get felt up, I suggest that you go elsewhere.

I would like to preface this review by saying that I do not recall what exactly was eaten - meaning the name of the platter - because mostly it was me and my friend going through this wonderful picture of frozen raspberry margarita on the patio. Good friends, great margarita, perfect weather to sit on the patio - what's not to like? The platter had shrimp, arroz y frijoles, some kind of very pounded flat as a board steak, chorizo bits, and flattened chicken. They were all piled up on top of one another which made for a nice fork full. It was hubs' platter; I just mooched a few bites. Service was attentive, the inside is gaudy as heck, and did I mention the margarita? Just might go back and try more food and less margarita.......nahhhhhhhhhhh!

I had a pretty good lunch here. The service was ok, the chips were average, the salsa was good but too runny. I'd say the best part about this place is the decor. Very colorful, lots of fun chairs and tons of lights fill this place up. I wasn't dissapppointed, but Columbus has a lot better options for mexican if you ask me.

My beau and I went here Friday night because I just had to have Mexican food and wanted to try something a little different. When we arrived, they were so busy and packed we had to take out number and stand outside in the cold for nearly 20 minutes. If I were of a weaker constitution, this would have been very off-putting, but I figured it was a busy Friday night, every where we'd try to eat would have long lines, and the reviews were good enough to make me want to try it. Boy am I glad I chose to wait it out. As soon as we were seated, we had warm, fresh tasting chips and salsa as well as water in front of us. Our waiter was close on our heels and took our drink order. Despite a minor snafu with our drinks - I wanted a regular sized peach margarita but got a big sized regular margarita (It was loud and I can totally understand how he misheard me) - our service was great. It seemed we barely had time to share my giant margarita and eat a few chips before our food was being placed in front of us. I can't recall the actual names of the dishes we got, but I know I had the chicken in diablo sauce (it's number 71) and it was delightful. It's super spicy and not for those with weak stomachs or aversions to HOT, but oh man. Once the burning calmed down, the flavor of the sauce was just great. John got a dish that was essentially chicken and chorizo in a light cheese sauce with tortillas and we both found that really tasty as well. About the only thing that took a while longer than expected - because I honestly did expect to wait for a table - was getting our bill and paying, but as we had arrived with everyone else, we were leaving with them too and there seemed to be a backup at the register. Good points: -great food -good service -slightly more traditional dishes -fair prices Not so good points: -this place is small and, as such, it fills up fast and you will have to wait for a table on a busy night out -it gets pretty loud

By far our favorite Mexican restaurant in Columbus. Always fresh hot food and friendly service. Favorites are the Chimichangas, the tri-color enchiladas, the Al Pastor tacos, and the Fajita Quesadilla. Never a bad meal here, and my wife and I have easily been here a hundred times or more. Oh, and the Superior Margaritas are aptly named. Can't say enough good things about our favorite place to eat.

Friendly service. Very fresh delicious Mexican food. Like better than el vaquero. Endless chips and salsa. A lil pricely but worth it! Ask for street tacos with just cilantro and onions. Great happy hour with strong margs!

Stopped in for lunch on "Taco Tuesday" with some coworkers who were big fans of the place. I got 3 tacos (chorizo, pastor, and lengua (tongue)). The pastor taco was excellent, the lengua tender and beefy, but the chorizo was just OK. (Chorizo tacos have become somewhat of an obsession of my and I felt that this chorizo didn't have the kick really good chorizo needs). On the plus side, the amount of filling was enormous. Easily enough to make two full size tacos out of (since there were 2 corn tortillas for each taco - six tacos for the price of three!). The rest of the menu looked pretty good, with more authentic dishes then the Americanized Tex-Mex you tend to find. I've been looking for a sit down Mexican restaurant ever since La Hacienda Real closed and La Casita may fit the bill.

I've been going to la casita for a little over a year now. It's kind of been my "mexican restaurant" until I can find a better one, to be honest. I'm still not 100% satisfied and really want to try chile verde on sawmill. Well, the one thing going for this place is definitely the outdoor seating and the fact that it's open until 10pm. My boyfriend and I ate here last night around 9pm... unfortunately chile verde will have to wait until another day, since they closed at 9. It was either here or las margaritas (I have nixed el vaquero for a while, abuelos is too far, and parking at cazuelas or la fogata is horrible). Anyway, once again, everything was almost exactly the same. Same old service: lack of enthusiasm, no greeting upon entering, etc. The food is ok, I always get the enchiladas now since I've decided that's what I like best. My boyfriend got the chimichangas and he liked them. The nice thing is that they let you change basically whatever you want on the menu at no additional charge. I got the 3 enchilada entree last night, and instead of a cheese, got 2 beef and 1 chicken. And I hate refried beans, so they let me get black beans instead. For future reference, I should have gotten 2 chicken and 1 beef. Or even all chicken.... the chicken is really juicy and yummy, whereas the beef literally tastes the same as taco bell. No taste or flavor at all and I could be eating grits for all it's worth. I really want to give this place like.. 3.5 stars. The service is NEVER great. I always feel forgotten and almost like all the staff are pissed off that I'm there. No one ever says hi when you walk in the door, and the woman at the register never even looks up to acknowledge you. But I guess at the end of the day, they do get the job done. I get cheap mexican food at a sit down restaurant and my orders are never messed up or anything. For now it's my "go to", but being a regular here doesn't excite me enough... and I am still on the hunt for a better place.

Love this place. I am a huge fan of their zumbo shrimp...I know, weird to get shrimp when you go for Mexican but it's so fantastic I get it every single time!! I always try what my boyfriend gets too....pretty sure all of their food is amazing!!

Friends and I had dinner at La Casita the other evening and came away with an unpleasant surprise. FOOD POISONING. We have eaten there before, it was a great little Mexican restaurant when it opened several years ago but over time quality of food an d service deteriorated. We thought we would give it a go again, wish we had'nt. Four days of food poisoning was no fun. I contacted the restaurant today to tell the of our experience, the manager was very nice and concerned about how I felt and asked if there was anything she could do for me. That was nice.

I think this place falls somewhere in the middle of an Americanized Mexican restaurant and more of a street vendor style, which is why I like it. Sit down and get the typical free chips and salsa, but then choose the three corn tacos and get some delicious food that rivals the local food trucks. I think it fills a nice void. The building is an old taco bell, but inside it is nice a cozy. The service as always been great. I probably go at least once a month if not more. I've only had a few things, because once I got to the tacos it became my go to meal. They are so good.

Over the 7 month period when I dated a Mexican from Mexico, I came to La Casita about once a week. We got to know the staff and menu well. This is by far my favorite Mexican restaurant in Columbus. It's a small place (hence, la Casita) but full of flavor and style. Margaritas are delicious but I definitely recommend getting a pitcher if you're with a few friends - it saves on money. I'm a vegetarian (well, pescatarian) and my favorite things were Ceviche, Chile Relleno, and their seafood menu. The chips are delicious and warm and the salsa is good, but I always ordered the queso dip with jalapenos for my chips. :) But be careful: after a few dips your mouth will be burning. I went on Cinco de Mayo a few weeks ago and of course it was packed, because they also don't take reservations in general. On days like this and Saturday evenings it's busy and perhaps your service will be a little less comprehensive, but it's still good. My favorite is going late on Fridays (around 10) and sitting at the bar, sipping a Mojito and watching soccer and speaking to the bartender in broken Spanish.

Visited La Casita on Sunday, March 25, 2012 in the afternoon. Wished it would have been nicer weather because they had a nice looking patio we would have liked to try out. Oh well, there is always next time. The restaurant is fairly small, I would imagine there is a wait during peak dining times. We were lucky and were seated right away and served chips and salsa. The chips were warm and not overly salted which I prefer. The salsa was very good, mexican style salsa with a nice cilantro flavor, we went through two bowls between having some with our chips and some with our meals. We ordered margaritas on the rocks to enjoy with our chips. There was nothing outstanding about them - good or bad- they were solidly good margaritas, but a little light on the alcohol if you ask me. While munching on chips we perused the menu. I have to say the men pleasantly surprised me with its variety. Not just the number of items or combo dinners, but the variety of meats that one could choose when selecting their dish. I can't remember them all, but they offered ground beef, shredded beef, chicken, pork cooked about 3 or 4 different ways (carnitas, pastor, etc.) and possibly another type of beef that I am not remembering and a good number of seafood options. The waitress, although not over friendly, was very patient explaining all of the different meat definitions. We each decided on a 3 taco combo plate where we could choose the meats. I chose 1 chicken, 1 pork carnitas and 1 beef barbacoa. I honestly can't tell you which one I thought was the best because they were all three delicious! My dining companion had 1 pastor, 1, fish 1 other one I can't remember and had the same experience, all three were excellent. The price was reasonable, the food was plentiful and the service was adequate. No mistakes, no waiting too long for our food, plenty of water refills and more than one offer for a drink refill. We were glad we finally tried it (thanks to Yelp!) and will definitely be going back!

I think as far as mexican food columbus has alot to offer. For starters the bathroom was a disaster, the carnitas tacos were terrible and odd tasting. There toppings (lettuce and toms ) were wilted and tasted idk just not fresh. Our server never came to check on us, nor refill our drinks. Let just say I will not come back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
