A friend and I were looking for a place to eat lunch on Labor Day (I know...not the best planning on our part). After checking out a few places, all of which were closed, he suggested this location. We should have picked Hang Over Easy first! Our waitress was friendly as were all the employees we encountered. I would never have thought to order breakfast at this place, if I'm being 100%. It looked to me like a burgers and fries stop. However, my friend said they had great breakfast food, so I went off his recommendation. I ordered the chicken and waffles and holy smokes! Delicious! It was spicy, which was unexpected and amazing. It came with a house made maple syrup that looked orange and tasted like heaven. I might struggle the next time I return because I will want to try something new but also get the same thing again!

Another perfect breakfast at Hangover Easy! My new fave is the Chicken & Chorizo skillet. I didn't order it but my daughter did and let me try a bite. I will definitely be ordering that next time. Service is quick and friendly. They're great at getting you in, fed, and out the door. Prices are insanely good...probably because it's on OSU campus and caters to college students. But every time we've been here, there's a good mix of students and old folks like us. :)

I have enjoyed going to lunch at Hang Over Easy for many years... this time I stepped outside of my "box" and went for the BBQ Chicken Salad. It was quite yummy. Most of the table ordered breakfast food and all of the plates were cleaned. The service was solid, the food was good, and we will continue to go back. If OSU is in session (Fall or Spring semesters), then it can get VERY busy here, but it's still worthwhile. In addition, during the academic year, it can be challenging to find parking. In addition, when classes are in session, the staff will rarely seat you until your entire party is present. So, keep this in mind for your next visit to Hang Over Easy.

Ate at Hang Over Easy on a Sunday following the first football weekend at OSU, and needless to say, it was packed with many hungover-looking students/families. We were lucky enough to be seated quickly (I think most people waiting had groups larger than 4) at the bar, which was rather unfortunate. The bar area was filled with "random" items and no proper organization; stacks of money in the corner, keys, empty cups, trash, and an old fruit dish lurked less than a foot away from us and was the unsightly view for our meal. I only point this out because I have been to their location in Clifton (University of Cincinnati) multiple times, and the place is spotless (at least in the areas were the customers dine). For food, I ended up splitting the Sloppy Seconds (two eggs, toast, bacon/choice of meat, HOE fries) and the Struggling to Get Up (two pancakes) with my boyfriend. While at a good price point, the Sloppy Seconds looked rather underwhelming when compared to the pancakes. The portions were small, but also very lazily put together (half the food was stacked on top of each other, rather than neatly layered as we saw in another customer's plate). It was also covered in grease/butter, which really took away from the taste of the food. All you really got was a grilled oil taste. The pancakes were good; however, they were very, very dense. I barely had more than three bites before declaring defeat. This should easily be labeled as an item that can be shared with 2-4 people. Finally, with older places near college campuses, they lack the size, staff, and means to adequately serve their customers. Servers were flailing around the room trying to take orders, serve food, handle any issues, and then turn the tables as fast as possible to get the next customers in. People were standing in the main dining room after the outside and indoor waiting areas were filled with people (practically hovering over tables), and the noise level was overwhelming. Overall, it just disrupts what should be an excellent dining experience.

I've spent a lot of time in "middle o' nowhere" towns in the past several years, so I'm really not that used to a whole ton of people everywhere anymore. We got here at 10:30 a.m.-ish and it was completely packed. My first impression of this place was that it was like a daytime bar, which is good if you're into that. (Since there are so many people, it can be somewhat difficult to carry a conversation at a normal volume.) Since I don't consume alcohol, it is quite unlikely that I will ever get a hangover. However, whether or not you have a hangover, everything on the menu looks awesome, and I don't think you can go wrong with your choices. I couldn't decide on just one thing. I ordered one of their seasonal pancakes (currently Apple Pie!) and their weekend special (Corned Beef Eggs Benedict). My friend got the weekend special, as well as a mimosa + coffee. The food here is amazinggggly delicious, and you get large portions for pretty darn affordable prices! Our server was quick, friendly and courteous! I thinkkk if you check in and tag them + use the #hoecbus and show it to your server, you can get 10% off your order. I was going to test this theory, but she came back with our check before I could, and I didn't want to make her life more difficult, so I let it go. :O If you're a fan of breakfast/brunch food, you should definitely come here and give any of the food here a try! *-*

Greasy, tasty, and delicious. I've been here a couple times and haven't been disappointed. The portions are large so come hungry, and there can be a wait during peak hours so be ready for that. I've had the burrito and the chorizo and eggs, which were both great. Get the biscuit as your side and you're all set . Street parking here, but I've never had trouble finding a spot. Lastly, just wanna give a shout out to the servers here. Last time I was in, the ceiling started leaking on our table and the servers were so kind and helpful and offered to bring us new food. We declined cause we were full, but then they gave us a coupon for a free meal next time we were in. Now that's some great service! If you're in the area roll through!

One of my favorite spots in Columbus for some early morning fare. I live a few blocks from Hang Over Easy, but I don't frequent it all that much, since I'm not a huge breakfast person. However, if I'm in the mood, this is usually the first place I go to. Plus, they have a full bar, and who doesn't like some Bloody Marys or Mimosas before heading over to tailgate an OSU game. My go to here has always been the Dirty Sanchez, which is essentially a giant breakfast burrito filled with goodness (eggs, potatoes, chorizo, etc.), and it's a hell of a lot of food. If you manage to finish it, you'll probably just go right back to bed. I'm also a big fan of the chicken and chorizo skillet. Their HOE fries are so good, and the chicken and chorizo are seasoned perfectly. I brought some friends here a couple of weeks ago looking for a hangover cure, and they absolutely loved everything they had. I've mostly eaten breakfast here, but the burgers are pretty good as well. I really want to try their chicken and waffles! The service is actually pretty good, and even after going here for a few years, it seems like it's still the same girls working here. They're all super nice and very helpful when going over the menu. If you decide to come here during the Fall on a Saturday, be prepared to wait, because this place is packed on game days. With a bar toward the front of the restaurant, there's people spilling out onto the patio off Neil Avenue. If you have the time though, it's worth the wait; not only for the food but the entire atmosphere in general is very welcoming. If you're looking for some great comfort food for a fairly cheap price and a fun environment, then you should definitely head to campus to check this place out.

I cannot recommend this place highly enough! Delicious, affordable, and the staff is super amazing. Our waitress was Niko, and she not only understood our hangover state but also recommended tater tots, which was a dream come true on our slightly nauseous stomaches. I had the cheeseburger and it was amazing, but the breakfast offerings here are top notch too. Get yourself there as quickly as possible this weekend and experience Columbus' best hangover cure.

Easy comfort food, rarely a wait, pretty good sweet tea. I usually get the chicken and waffles but I have heard many good reviews of their other breakfast dishes, not much about their lunch fare though. Either way, its a good safe bet for fairly prompt service and good breakfast stuff!

OM NOM NOM! Hang Over Easy is a great choice on the Ohio State campus for cheap and decent eats. The only major problem is that everyone else likes this place too! You may have a bit of a wait getting a table, but fear not - it is totally worth it. They serve breakfast food all day. Who doesn't love breakfast? If breakfast isn't your thing, they start serving lunch menu items at 10:30 a.m. They have a nice variety of beers, mimosas, and Bloody Marys - a little something to ease into your morning. Take a hair of the dog that bit you!

If you need cheap, fatty eats after a night of aggressive binge drinking, this is your place. There's almost nothing healthy on the menu... which is okay. Sometimes you need to indulge. There were a nice range of options from savory to sweet, and it offers all of your standard diner fare. I just feel SO old when I come here. I mean, I'm in my thirties and trolling campus with a bunch of college kids in sweats that reek of booze, late-night Taco Bell and regret. (Ah, the good ole days) Overall, great joint. I just come here rarely because I'm in a bit of a "one of these things is not like the others" situation when I do. :)

This is my favorite brunch spot in Columbus. It's tucked away in a small location on campus where there is a wait after 10:00 AM, but it is worth the wait. Their rotating blue plate specials always offer something unique to try and their seasonal pancakes are phenomenal. My personal favorite is funfetti, but the pumpkin and gingerbread offerings at the end of fall are amazing. Their standard menu stands out as well and the beer and cocktail offerings help you to kick off the weekend or recover from it. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because when it is crowded (which is most of the time) it gets so loud in there you can't hear the person in front of you.

Fantastic! We went at 10 on Sunday and were told a 15 minute wait. We only waited half the time. The waitress arrived quickly and she hustled our entire visit; in fact everyone there was hustling but in no way made you feel rushed. Our food was extremely good and we can't wait to go back to try more items. I had the Dirty Sanchez and my husband had Frog Eyes. Side note: this place is fine for kids but there is no kid menu

Love! I have been to this place not once, but twice, during my current trip to Ohio. While I am not an OSU student, nor do I live in Columbus, this place is located conveniently on campus for all of the college students. Hang Over Easy offers a menu that is very creative and they have FANTASTIC breakfast and brunch food. I bet this place makes a killing. Given their location on campus, and with the knowledge of how students love to drink and party, I enjoy the wittiness of the name of they gave their establishment. Very clever. Great food; Cool service; Tasty drinks. Whether you are looking to cure a hangover, or if you're a breakfast/brunch fanatic like me, the Hang Over Easy is the place to be.

I ordered the Dirty Sanchez and it was amazing! It was a large item and when I added tater tots to it it was just enough for two to share. Great place, I can't wait to become a regular.

Rarely does a place's name equate perfectly with its prime function like it does with Hang Over Easy, a diner just off Ohio State on Neil. With easy access from the dorms to the north and from the off campus pads to the south, it is in perfect position to pinch off a night of binging, bonging, and ballyhoo. I came here to have a late brunch before meeting friends elsewhere. I was expecting the usual diner trip. But right through the door I notice its local beer, craft draft choices. There was a small bar by the door with taps in shinny brass attracting attention. Many of the beers are local micros. I didn't have any though, but it was a surprise. The space is very clean but yet true to itself in the old building. There is the long diner bar, the tables, and a second room with a lower ceiling that has some charm. The wall junk is the cliche 50s/60s Americana, the James Dean with the sultry underlook, the Monroe black and white, the Beatles Abby Road poster. Truth is I am getting tired of this decor as if diner didn't exist in the 80s, 90s, the 2000s. But here it works. The music is likewise, the Motown slick, the greaser sounds. There was some Ohio State football swag. But smartly they didn't go overboard with it as lesser places would. By doing so they hit the cultural mix of the university just right. Outsiders don't often get it; football is only a part of the schools culture. There are also heavy counter-cultural threads to Ohio State, and to get it right sports must be weaves in with it. Hang Over Easy gets it nearly spot on. ( You have to have went here to really understand that.) The comfort food I had here was more than expected. My western omelette featured ham that didn't come out of a precut bag. Juicy and hot, the ham seemed to be cooked as full slice before being diced into pieces. The onions were fresh. A nice size, the omelette was satisfying. The sourdough toast was a nice side. I had coffee. I think the great coffee shop and roasters in town have spoiled me, so I am going to stop reviewing diner coffee. It was drinkable; that's the best I can say. The service was fantastic. Friendly, starting conversation, and having good sense of humor, the waitresses and servers did an excellent job meeting my needs, even when they were scheduled to close in an hour. I came in when the university was on holiday vacation. So it was dead; I assume it is more busy when the undergrads return. I am making this one of my Sunday breakfast places. I judge it an improvement since by days on campus.

Chicken and Waffles with a side of Hoe Fries! Amazing! I work nearby, and decided to give this place a try. Place was crazy busy, but that didn't take away from what was to come. I saw numerous reviews showing Chicken and Waffles. They were delicious! Just a little bit of spice and the waffles were wonderful. The "Hoe" Fries were perfect. A little greasy, but tasted great! I will definitely be adding this place to my list of regular places to go.

You cannot visit Ohio State without visiting here! Wonderful staff and the best hoe fries in the country. I doubt you'd find HOE fries anywhere else though. Their seasonal pancakes are always delicious, whether it's pumpkin or red velvet! Make sure to come with friends so they can enjoy the experience too!

Hang Over Easy, I have an important question for you; what on earth happened yesterday?! We walk in around 1ish hoping for a nice brunch before they close at 3. First, the hostess was sitting on a barstool, talking to her friends. It felt like we were inconveniencing her by asking her to get us seated. Second, once we were at a table, there was trash everywhere. I noticed straw wrappers and assorted other garbage all over the floor. We knew what we wanted almost immediately, as we loved the Ultimate H.O.E. burger and the black and blue burger the other times we were here. The waitress came to take our drink order and we said "actually, we know what we want to order as well." She said, "oh, you have to wait, I have to go put this table's order in." Okay? We would have seriously taken about a second to order and our order wasn't complicated! When she finally came back and we could order, apparently it WAS too complicated. I ordered my burger medium and my boyfriend got his rare, and both of ours came back incorrect; mine was well done, and dry, and his was medium or medium well. I had to douse mine in ketchup to overcome the fact that it was extremely dry. The aioli, which is what I so loved about my other meals, was hard to taste. My boyfriend's fries came out after all of the rest of the food, so he ended up not really eating them. Overall, a big disappointment! We've come to expect a lot from this establishment and I was really sad to see that the quality wasn't what we were expecting. Every other time we've come on a morning, so maybe the afternoons are a miss? As my boyfriend said, "if the first time we'd gone here had been like this time, we wouldn't have come back." Let's hope this was a fluke.

Only had to wait 20 minutes for a party of 2 at 1130 AM on a Sunday which I was happy about. Not much space inside to wait, but it was nice out and there's lots of space outside. We split the chicken and waffles & dirty sanchez - both were delicious, but I preferred the dirty sanchez (a chorizo and potato burrito covered with queso and pico-- yum). The chicken was delicious and paired really well with the waffles - hot sauce and syrup just work. My one "complaint" was that the waffles were a little plain and required an extra side of syrup. Service was great despite being busy.

It's truly the definition of hanging over easily. The wait wasn't bad but there's no true waiting area so you're basically in a crowd of people huddled in between the door and hostess stand. Beyond that, you're seated amongst vintage posters, a wall of shame and 6 pack crates holding condiments. It sounds odd but it fits. Food is delicious! The chicken and waffles were yum-o!! Not your thing? Try the awesome pancakes or make your own omelette.

Went here for brunch today and was not disappointed! We ordered basic eggs, toast and home fries with a side of blueberry cheesecake pancakes. Simple, delicious, and best of all - cheap! The coffee was great and the service was spot on. Our server even gave me some coffee to go. Will definitely return again!

Easy there buckeye, hang over not required. Whether you are feeling sick, sober, or plain ol' jolly in the morning, this gem of a breakfast diner is the perfect solution. My first real meal in Columbus came from this place! I met my new staff for the first time here at OSU and was surprised that this eatery was something easily accessible on campus. Every morning, the line stretches out the door, and for good reason too. Buckeyes sure know where to go get some delicious Western breakfast. My group of five were seated within fifteen minutes- not too shabby considering how popular it gets. I was eyeing the $4 mimosas on the walls, but decided against it on a "nice to meet you" basis. However, the next time I return, know that I'll likely be tossing back a few of these to get my morning started. They've got all the essentials- eggs, pancakes, waffles... CHICKEN and waffles. Mmm, everything smelled and looked delicious. I opted for the Sausage Skillet ($8) which came with toast and your choice of eggs. The skillet was definitely up there in terms of a good breakfast! There was a great mix of meat, veggies, eggs and cheese that covered it all. Not to mention, the sizzling made the food taste even better. The portion was huge and I barely touched half of it before deciding to box it up. Perhaps it was the nervousness I had in meeting my new staff that made me forget my breakfast. Nonetheless, I was ecstatic to have leftovers for later that evening. Easily accessible on Neil and perfect for a Sunday brunch! Parking is available on the street as well as the nearby lot on 11th.

Cheap breakfast close to the medical center/campus. It advertises itself well as hangover food (post-call food for me). The problem is that it also has a hangover vibe. Its kind of grundgy, sticky floors, weird (not bad... just weird) smells... but it IS a bar. It can also get crowded and very loud (which I imagine is NOT great for a hangover) and very crowded with college kids on weekends (not worth the wait). Food is good and cheap though. I've only ever tried breakfast and they do it well.

All I can say is Chicken and waffles... Amazing! Definitely check this spot out if your around OSU campus for breakfast.

Part of me doesn't want to share just how good of food this place really has! Let's just say I dream about their waffles & chicken! The hot sauce & maple syrup mixes together perfectly for the sweet dream worthy meal. One of their mudslides/Kailua type drinks is made with coffee cubes instead of using normal ice (genius!). The bar area gets crowed quickly & drinks are a tad overpriced for the small sized cups they come in & for it being campus, but I still believe the delicious food & close proximity to other campus bars makes this the only & best way to start easing that hangover on a game day.

This place is delicious! You see the name and think it's just gonna be some regular breakfast food for the average college kid who drank too much last night, but it's way better than that. It's an average looking place, nothing special. There's a tiny bar when you walk in for beer and drink specials and a hostess just beyond that. There is usually a wait (about 20 min or so) but it's worth it. They sell breakfast and lunch. But seriously, if you like chicken and if you like waffles, you must try their chicken n waffles at least once! Some people think it sounds weird, but it's a beautiful combination. I promise! Your taste buds will be dancing around this dish. They have a special syrup that's got a hint of spicy, but it's perfectly sweet. And they only drizzle it on, so you're not overwhelmed. The chicken is all white meat and perfectly crispy! The staff is all very pleasant too! There are meters all over the place on Neil with a 2 hour limit so you just have to watch that if you end up with a long wait time. But the food comes out quickly and the servers check on you enough. Go check it out!

What a place! Oh what incredible signage! And what tasty food! Forget soggy waffles and grits straight out of a box. This place doesn't have the typical greasy diner food. Breakfast food with a little more variety. You'll have to excuse me, but I can't quite recall what I ate there. Maybe it was because of the hangover I was experiencing. But whatever it was it contained avocados and it was good! Yes, a few of the signs were slightly R-rated, but who cares when you have a hangover. Ok they actually weren't that bad, just something to laugh at. So someone actually managed to make a diner that's better than other diners.

This place really knows the definition of comfort food! They have so many delicious-sounding options that it took me forever to decide on what I wanted. Their prices are also super reasonable, so I don't have to go broke feeding myself. Plus, our waitress was super friendly and very helpful with the many questions that I had. I ended up ordering the chicken chorizo skillet, and it came out exactly as I wanted. The yolk for my sunny-side up eggs were perfectly runny, and they even let me substitute the grilled chicken with fried chicken. Moreover, the food came out fairly quickly, and everything was nicely hot (even the English muffin!) and flavorful. My friend ordered the chicken and waffles, which comes richly doused in sriracha syrup. The waffles were mostly pretty good, except slightly burnt on a few edges, but what really made this dish was the sriracha sauce, which added a nice spice to the chicken. The chicken does get soggy pretty quickly because of the sauce, so you want to make sure you eat it fast. Definitely coming back here next time I need comfort food!

On the very short list of places I regularly visit or bring out of town visitors to is this wonderful campus icon. Cheap beer, greasy amazing food, and tater tots. What more could you want from life? Some days they are slammed with medical students drinking away sorrows from their last exam. Others, hungover college students enjoying a breakfast burrito with HOE fries. It's worth the wait. Their last menu change unfortunately got rid of my favorite entrée, which made me sad, but presented a good opportunity to explore the rest of the menu. Their weekly specials are also quite good, depending on the day you are there. Service is pretty consistently attentive and willing to make suggestions as to what's good!

Cheep food! I went with a group of 3 and 2 of us ended up even getting 2 meals (we were very hungry). Eggs Galore!!!! And you can even get beer, not bad for a breakfast place!

Omigosh! Wow! Awesome brunch with all our faves. Fat Joes and I can't remember mine but it was 2 eggs, hash browns (which are ah-ma-zing) and FRENCH TOAST! Boom! Got seated immediately around 11:00 AM on a Sat. We will def be going back. Coffee, mimosas and service were exceptional.

Foods is good for campus bar food. As the name states good for hangovers, if you have one. Pretty one dimensional hangover focused menu.

  • Derek C.

The food is good diner food and the prices are cheap. We'll go ahead and start with the positives because that about covers it. Service here is terrible. There's nothing complex on the menu but bartenders don't batch drinks like screwdrivers and bloody marys for some reason. As a result, the waiting-area bar is elbow-deep in it when the place isn't terribly busy. The kitchen does not arrange to have all of the plates for a given table out at one time and somebody is withholding the technology of the tray from the waitresses for the plates they do get together. Overall, the concept is great but it appears to be executed by a staff that has virtually no experience in food service. If you could imagine what things would look like if nobody was trained or had more than 90 days experience, you've got a pretty good sense of the chaos that this place is.

Whhaaaaaaaaaaa! Where has this place been all my time in Columbus. The food was excellent! Everything was cooked perfect and had great presentation. I had French toast with sausage and and egg in top. The sausage was spiced and cooked perfectly and the French toast was crunchy yet soft. I've never been to a place that was able to make it correctly like this. The prices are decent if you order on menu. Sides might be a little overpriced but it's worth it for the taste. I'd go with 5 stars but two minor issues..service is just a tad slow. We saw our waitress just twice as we ordered then to bring the check. I think she had a lot of tables so I can't fault her too much. The second problem is parking. It's right on the edge of campus so you'll be hard pressed to find a meter even early on a sunday. Park in the garage around the corner for 3.50 for an hour. Other than that I think I've found my new favorite brunch spot.

Honestly, we stopped in here to use the restroom after dropping our son off but decided to stay for a meal. After a steady dose of holiday sweets I was in dire need of some protein. Our waitress recommended the grilled chicken and chorizo. It comes with shrooms, green peppers, potatoes, cheese, two eggs and a side of toast. I got the eggs over easy and asked to hold the peppers. The toast was actually a nice piece of bread that was evenly toasted as opposed to most breakfast joints that serve you a warm piece of wonder bread. The eggs were as over easy as over easy gets. No peppers. I get the impression that if I ordered a steak medium rare this cook would nail it. A rare thing. The flavors were fantastic. I'm not sure but the ingredients tasted fresh and were probably locally sourced. If I didn't have to drive back to Cinci I would have sampled some of the beers. They looked great. Since literally stumbling into this place I have discovered they opened one in Cinci. I must also say that the staff really seemed to be on the ball. My wife got an equally enjoyable meal, so I'm told, but I was too self involved with my own culinary experience to see past the end of my fork or notice. A very good start to a new year.

Hangover is the best. Usually go for hungover breakfasts and start with the bloody marys, which are fantastic. I use to always get the pot roast hash which was the best thing on the planet, but they re-did the menu a few weeks ago and for some reason it got the boot. R.I.P. But because i loved it so much i gave a few other things a try and didnt regret it. The chicken chorizo skillet is a home run and the HOE benny is their mexican play on eggs benedict. Those and the frog eyes are the three best breakfasts. If youre looking for lunch, the southwest chicken wrap and tha HOE burger with the egg are my favs. Go to hangover easy!! I will love going there more often than anywhere else until I graduate, when i will miss it dearly

I needed a place to grab breakfast on my way out of town, and decided to try out Hang Over Easy (HOE). Service was fast and friendly and the HOE Benny, eggs Benedict with pico and avocado, hit the spot! The price wasn't bad. And, although the coffee wasn't the greatest, they have unlimited refills!

Decent breakfast spot thats located conveniently across the street from the medical center and medical school--making post exam festivities quite convenient. My knees go weak for chicken and waffles and so the only thing I've ever had here is....surprise--chicken and waffles! HO's version is quite good--nothing "traditional" but is on the spicier side and uses chicken tenders. Honestly I think it's quite good. I would recommend splitting this dish with a friend and have your friend order something on the traditional savory breakfast side--and then you've got yourself bliss.

"Duuuuuuuude. You are, like, talking way too loud right now." "Right, I, like, can totally not believe that Taylor totally threw up on that police car last night. Can you say ROCKSTAR?" One of the best parts of hanging out with Hang Over Easy is that you may get to hear little gems like these in the mornings. Being in close proximity to OSU (i.e., right on campus) and having the "opportunity" to sit next to OSU undergrad kiddos, you get the true feel for what OSU is all about: learning experiences. In one form or another. Food prices are relatively cheap and they have an extremely cheap happy hour if you're already on campus. Useful hint: I've come here before and ordered something and then a pancake on the side. Bad idea. Their pancakes are HUGE. I recommend getting just pancake or just something else.

It's not every day that I stumble across a restaurant/bar/diner that I have never heard of, that is basically in my backyard, and that used to be a vaunted bar of youth (JR Miggs), but Hang Over Easy is that place! Excellent breakfast foods for as long as they are open during the day with obscenely cheap specials before some morning hour, presumably an attempt to get the mostly OSU college clientele out of their beds early. Also, good greasy spoon diner fare. I ate lunch here, amazed that this place even exists, and with a full liquor license and drink specials, I will clearly need to come here on a weekend. Friendly service, cramped seating, and lines of people waiting to get in, you know you've hit a goldmine. Plus, it's not expensive, so it's great budget food. Best scheme I observed, people waiting for a table had half their party wait around the corner at Adriatico's Pizza, so whichever table opened up first, they would get a good meal. Sneaky but admirable. I plan to bring my kids, so that they can get a great breakfast and so that they can see what staying up all night "studying" looks like when they see the students. Hang over easy, indeed.

Come here to fulfill all of your breakfast desires. Omelettes, breakfast skillets, chicken and waffles, stuffed French toast, and seasonal pancakes (currently gingerbread with a cream cheese frosting) just to name a few. Or if you're not that into breakfast food, the H.O.E burger is amazing--topped with bacon, red onion jam, a sunny side egg, and more! The prices are reasonable and the staff is always friendly as well. This place is a true OSU gem.

Came here for brunch recently. Nice decor, and basically it's "hanging out on campus" when I sure as hell don't need to be hanging out on campus. Although, it's less creepy doing drunk brunch here than it is when people insist we have to go to "O Patio for liquid dope" or whatever that place is called now. I dig the mixed drinks (white russian with coffee ice cubes? Nice touch). The food, however, I was less than impressed with. The HOFries and eggs were *perfect*, but the french toast was crap. My friend had the breakfast burrito that looked awesome (even without comparison). I'll be back to try it out, but I'm definitely skipping the french toast next time.

Food was good but too greasy. My Greek omelette was made with fresh spinach and tomatoes but was dripping in oil. Waitress was very nice. Definitely college atmosphere, which being in my late 30s I was looking for a little nicer ambiance.

This place is meant to serve college students by college students. It is very simple and filling food which is what most college students are looking for either on their way to class or after a hard day and you just want some sloppy breakfast to fill you up. I usually grab some breakfast here before heading for a long day at Thompson Library. There are a good number of tables and a counter top with stools. Some Tv's to watch the news or sports and usually have some music playing an alternative or pop station. I usually order pancakes with blueberries or the dirty Sanchez, I like this particularly because the chorizo and potatoes is filling. Also chorizo is okay quality, I've had way better but for an American style diner and breakfast place they usually have some cheap and unspiced meat. I can't talk about how their coffee is and I know this is critical to a lot of people, but I don't drink coffee.

I've always had a pretty good experience every time I come to Hang Over Easy. It's located in a pretty convenient location if you are on the Ohio State campus. The lines do get pretty long though, especially during brunch times on the weekends, so expect wait times outside or slow service once you get a table. The food is good if you want big portions of brunch food at very reasonable prices. They have burgers, omelets, pancakes, various sides like hash browns, etc. and their mimosas are pretty good as well. Their seasonal pancakes are really good, super fluffy. I almost always end up taking some food back to eat later, as their portions are pretty big. It's pretty easy to get food coma afterwards since the food is heavy, sometimes greasy and rich in carbs but sometimes that's what you are looking for in a meal!

Hangover easy is such a great little breakfast spot tucked into the comforts of OSU's campus. Their bloody mary's are delicious and for the price they can't be beat. The portions are huge. I am a plain jane a lot of the time for breakfast, so I usually get eggs and hoe fries. Love the hoe fries and my eggs are always cooked right. Service is friendly but they can get overwhelmed at times. Great value

I spent my Friday Happy Hour at Hang Over Easy last week, and I was pretty pleased with the experience. Granted, I didn't delve very far into the menu, but what I saw looked pretty good. In addition to a beer, I got some tater tots, which were as good as tater tots should be. I also got to sample the pancakes because one of my friends got two and couldn't finish her plate. I thought they were quite tasty, and I'll probably get some of them on my next visit. Our server was attentive, and we had no trouble getting a table.

I wish this place was in my hometown. Walked in at 8am to find the locals having cheeseburgers and beer - because they just got off work from the night shift at the hospital. We enjoyed huge portions of omelettes and giant breakfast sandwiches on hand sliced ryes, wheat or sourdough. Excellent tea selection. Great value. Service was a bit slow but only 1 wait staff, and it was a Tuesday morning.

I have been back to HOE several time since my initial review. The food is always fantastic and the service is always just as good. The seating sucks as you're really just squeezed in but the food is so good it's no wonder why. I just really enjoy this place overall. Get the Ramblin' Man!

Great place! I ordered the Dirty Sanchez, which is a huge breakfast burrito with chorizo, eggs, cheese, pico de gallo, cheese, etc. It was delicious. One of the best breakfast burritos I've ever had. The service was great and the atmosphere was very welcoming. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a great breakfast/brunch in Columbus.

The vibe is awesome and we were sat next to the wall of Losers-much better than a wall of winners for their food challenge. Their chicken and waffles was crisp and so unusually delicious and their mimosas are on POINT. This is my new go to spot.

Reason for Visit: Didn't feel like cooking breakfast, so I ordered breakfast sandwiches. Strengths: They answered the phone on the first ring. Opportunities: If I can make it at home, it shouldn't be on the menu. The breakfast sandwich is nothing more the two overwhelming slices of bread with a single egg and two pieces of bacon or a patty of sausage. No cheese or seasoning. I'd imagine it would be hard to mess up, but they did on 2 out of the 4 sandwiches I ordered, twice. Serves me right for not cooking at home.

Excellent food whatever time of the morning you get hungry. The Angry egg is a simple classic and affordably priced. Their chicken and waffles for lunch are definitely worth checking out as well as their daily blue plate special. Burgers are on point as well. If you're thirsty, their fully stocked bar is always a good choice.

My first time in H.O.E and I had an awesome experience. The food is fabulous. I had the Chicken and Chorizo skillet and a french toast on the side. I really liked the french toast. It tastes so good with butter and white powder sugar. The prizes are cheap. There are a lot of people, the ambient is a little bit noisy. This place is ideal for breakfast or brunch.

I've been to hangover enough times whereby I can write an honest review. Definately a hole in the wall restaurant. Seemed a little but dirty at first, but I'm always open to trying new foods so I gave it a shot. I got the pot roast hash and oh my god!! It was great!!! Very flavorful and I added some hot sauce and damn was that shit was good!! I went back after that and got the chicken and waffles. I've been back 4 times after ordering chicken and waffles and got that EVERYTIME. I always try to talk myself into getting/trying something else but I am seriously hooked!! I cannot leave hangover easy without my chicken and waffles!! I had to knock a star off because I had to wait forever for my food

Best breakfast I've ever had! Totally worth it--don't pass this up! I had the Ramblin' Man breakfast and it was to die for. The French toast amazing upon amazing and the eggs, home fries, and sourdough toast was a perfect match. Thank you for making my day!

Great diner food, although their bloody Mary's are lame. Good beer list. The "college" atmosphere can get a little much after exams and stuff, but no surprise there.

Still impressing Tried this spot out again this morning. Tried calling in my order but the phone was off the hook. I informed them when I arrived and placed my order. Tried the Shrimp and grits this time around. Once it was ready I looked in the container and noticed it was a lot of food; filled the whole styrofoam container. Lugged it home and gave it a try. IT was really good with a lot of flavors going on. This I found different than other shrimp and grits I've tried because the focus was not on making the grits cheesy, but rather there was a gravy sauce in with the grits. While you could still pickup the grits and shrimp, the gravy brings something new and refreshing to the dish. I could barely finish with how much food they gave me. Another great meal from this little place on-campus.

This is your standard college breakfast diner. The greasy food is great for hangovers (as the name suggests) and the crowd is all pretty laid-back in that walking dead sort of way. Being that I'm no longer college-aged, it's kind of funny to overhear some of the conversations at nearby tables ("You did WHAT last night? OMG, hahaha" etc.). Bf and I have eaten here a couple of times and have found that if you can get here before 11, you're golden. Any time after that, the kids are wakin' up and you're looking at a decent wait. The menu is actually pretty extensive with lots of breakfast options, lunch options and then a more inventive daily special. Prices are pretty cheap (glorious). The food is good if you're into typical diner food. Not exceptional or life changing, but good. Hangover Easy is a great alternative to Short North/Arena District crowd. Much more laid back (aka sweatpants acceptable). Not sure why I don't come here more often.

My fave brunch place in Cbus. So glad it was on OSU's campus and I was able to frequent it and introduce it to all my friends when I was there...lots of fond memories here. Brunch is my fave meal, and I really don't like to wait, but I'll wait for this. I wanted to (but didn't get around to) try everything on the menu...because well, let's be honest...the Dirty Sanchez was my fave haha. It's a heavy burrito, but so good, and the salsa has a nice kick to it. I'd definitely crave this post-workout. :) No visit back to Cbus would be complete without a meal here...

I go here often and get the same thing (Angry egg with extra hoe fries) and it's really good. When I tried their pancakes I was disappointed (they were undercooked) but I think that was just because they had a new cook. Overall, the service is usually amazing and I'm definitely going back

    (4)
  • Jennifer W.

It's good, decent food. I think the menu is not as good as it used to be, and the quality has gone slightly downhill. Also, be sure when ordering on the phone that they have gotten it right, I've gotten orders that were wrong and it's frustrating to have the wrong food back at your office and not having time to correct it. Today I even checked before I left the store, it looked like the right thing, but on closer inspection in my office, it wasn't.

Surprisingly good - don't pass it up just because it looks like a dirty hole in the wall. Their menu offerings range from dirt cheap breakfast essentials and burgers to fun seasonal pancakes (pumpkin, confetti cake, strawberry...), ratatouille over grits, pesto turkey, beef stew, and a daily special with interesting flavors and ingredients. I'd never have guessed a hole in the wall hidden away on campus would have ratatouille. Why I always go back: they have marbled rye toast which is way better than the other kind, and their veggie omelet is a serious meal. Can't decide which hot sauce you want on your omelet to go? The staff will make a little cup of both mixed together! The chicken and waffles are pretty darn good, but I wish there was more variation in the flavor. The breading is spicy and so is the maple syrup, which sort of homogenizes the experience. They get really busy at normal breakfast and lunch times so call ahead for a pick-up order if you don't like to wait. As everyone has mentioned, most of the menu is pretty greasy so don't go there expecting an easy time finding something that fits into your diet (or just don't be on a diet).

Great place for the price and food offerings!! Several usual offerings, for the different meal times: eggs, pancakes, inlets, fruit, burgers, etc. Inside, there is plenty of tables to pick from. Spacious enough, so that your not rubbing your back against another customer's. right when you walk in, there is small bar counter and stools for the liquor lovers. Every time I've got to this joint (two times, if I'm correct), I've ordered there breakfast plate that consists of: two eggs (over easy), a sausage patty, and two buttermilk pancakes. I always enjoy the cakes - hot, fluffy, satisfying taste, and the warm syrup served on te side sums up the goodness :) For the plate size, the items are very reasonable! I guess, since this place is right across from the hospital, and gets te heavy flow of campus kiddos, you can expect a hearty meal for a college-budget price!

  • Zack R.

Yummy! A no-bullshit breakfast at a good price. The French Toast was some of the best I've had, and a side of crispy-yet-not-burnt bacon (seriously, most place screw up their bacon royally for some reason). And all of our company really enjoyed their food too. We got there around 10 on a Sunday morning and were immediately seated. By the time we left there was an hour wait, so get there at a decent time.

The name describes the best context for this place -- the morning after, when standards are low. Oh alright, the place is actually clean and the food is fine; we were just hoping for something a little more memorable, plus being vegetarian meant most of the menu was off-limits. Two point of interest, though: 1) Tachos! (Tater Tots a la nachos) 2) Ratatouille 'n' Grits -- great concept; average result

I really liked this place! The diner vibe was awesome! We arrived just 20 minutes after opening, but the dining room was already 1/2 full. Service seemed a little confused and not quite ready to work, but we were seated quickly. Service over all was slow, but not awful. The server was sweet and realized the food took forever. The menu is fun. I had the sausage skillet and a single pancake, Brian O. had the dirty Sanchez (read: breakfast burrito). We both enjoyed our food. The sausage did taste farm fresh as did the veggies and the potatoes were cooked well although it'd have been better with more crispiness. The over easy eggs were cooked perfectly. The Sanchez was flavorful with good chorizo and cheese sauce. The pancake was average, very dense and cakey. I wonder what it would have been like if I got the seasonal flavor, German chocolate? The biscuit was absolutely gross. Avoid at all costs! Seemed frozen and doughy. Coffee was average, refill provided quickly. For the two of us, it was only $22, which isn't bad. Both of our meals were under $8. Of course, not every single thing was mind blowing, but between the atmosphere, prices, and food, it is a win. I have already recommended friends to this place so, I'd say, I'm a fan.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the Chicken & Waffles. Just right level of spice & flavor. Great (seasonal) beers on tap!

Just okay. Some mornings you just want eggs, hashbrowns, and toast, and you don't want to make it yourself. Service is okay although it can take awhile to get your food and waiter attention. I come here because it's so conveniently located and you can get a beer to wash away post exam sorrows in the late mornings (if that's your thing).

I'd pass by Hang Over Easy enough times to anticipate a chuckle at their hand scribbled signs of "I'd rather eat my own morning wood" or their "Who you callin' HOE fries". They even painted a funky mural to match the "eclectic" dive interior of emptied beer carriers as condiment accents, a plastering of band posters, and an eye-sore of garish coral-orange with lime green walls. As much 'tude as the place tries to exude, the food doesn't quite live up to its own hype. Yesterday morning was no exception as we rolled in for an early sunday breakfast. In the many times I've come for breakfast and lunch, I stick with things I know- the stuffed french toast and or a simple sandwich with sweet potato fries. What it really should be called is a double layered french toast fruit sandwich. On occasion, I'd lift up my bread to find some stems on my blueberries. For us campus dwellers, Hang Over Easy offers some okay-options and it is easily packed on the weekends-- with underclassmen looking to start off their lazy afternoons, or game days. This place has so much more potential to become a campus destination but instead, it chooses to carry on as a place of convenience.

I would say it is great overall. The scrambled egg is great, the steak is crispy and yummy. Also you get beverage with free refills here. And the environment is relaxed and comfortable. But it took a little bit long to wait. It is impossible for them to keep everything perfect considering it is at the university district and so many students go there. It is a great palce to go for breakfast/brunch!

  • Chelsea B.

The only reason I'm rating Hang Over Easy above one star is because the food was awesome. If I wanted to get waited on by a bunch of rude, over privileged sorority girls, I would have gone to Hooters. My husband and I arrived at 2:00PM on a Tuesday after reading on their website that they were open from 7A-7P on weekdays. Shortly after being seated, we started receiving nasty looks from the waitstaff. Apparently, they close at 3PM when not in the 'school year'. Their closing procedures started around 2:30, before we were even served our food. The loud clanging and lack of attention (refills and long wait on food) made this an absolutely horrible experience. We will never be going back to Hang Over Easy.

Typical diner type food and surprisingly good. Doesn't look much from outside but is pretty crowded most of the day. Despite that they seat you pretty fast and service is very good. Their turkey reuben is especially good. Very much value for money.

For the price point this is place is a 5-star place. You get a ton of a food and never really leave hungry. As has been noted breakfast is served all day, but if you are looking for a burger they have that as well. The specials are usually really good and change about 3-4 times a year. Alcohol is served all day so you can enjoy a drink with your brunch if that's your kind of thing. The service is prompt, and the waitresses are quite attentive and friendly. If you want to nitpick, they tend to close early (weekdays- 7PM, Sat- 4PM, Sun-3PM). The actual room has a very fun atmosphere and is extremely well kept. The posters and pictures add a lot of personality to the room. Bringing in larger groups isn't an issue as the room has plenty of space and flexibility to handle big groups. Overall just a great place to grab a bite to eat!

  • Paul F.

I stopped in for lunch yesterday. It's a diner-like environment. Lots of young waitresses. Didn't get to see the kitchen. Parking wasn't bad, probably due to the time of day. It looks like they really fill up at times. I had the french toast and a order of ham. For some reason I was thinking this would be really cheap, but it wasn't. They tend to overserve you rather than giving you a moderate amount of food for the same price. But they food was really good and I left with a full stomach!

Are you craving for greasy spoon? -This is a good place to quench it. The food is good to the point of being criminal - biscuit with sausage gravy, creamy grits, buttery cheesy omelet, etc. The burger also tastes good, but the bun gets soggy while I am eating it. So, I usually don't order burgers here. Everything is far from being graceful, but really casual. Given the price range, you can't ask for more. Servers -almost all of them- are college kids, and often they're just hired. As a result, things can get chaotic time to time. But by all means, they are friendly and *trying* to be helpful.

Went here for the first time last week. I was super excited to see that they had corned beef hash on the menu. However, it left a lot to be desired. It was too much potato and barely any corned beef. The eggs on top were fine. My toast was good and I was happy they had sourdough, but it wasn't very sour. Waitress forgot my pancake on the side though she charged me for it. Took it off the bill when I asked. Otherwise she was good. Unimpressed. I'd rather go to Tasi or Union.

Anyone that doesn't give a five star on this is a communist. Everything I have ever had here is amazing. The water (maybe because I am actually hungover) is even amazing. Their coffee is great. Add a screwdriver or Bloody Mary for a little hair of the dog. The wheat toast makes me smile. The seasonal pancakes are always a hit...especially the red velvet but skip the cream cheese icing, just go with the regular syrup. Today was the kicker however. CHICKEN & WAFFLES. Unbelievable. Franks Red Hot maple syrup and the chicken was so juicy and perfect. God I love this place.

Breakfast was amazing as usual when I stopped by yesterday morning. I really enjoyed their homemade french toast, eggs and ho fries (Yes, ho fries. Which is their signature home fries breakfast item on the menu). In this very eclectic restaurant, the Hangover Easy once had "who you callin ho fries?" written on their window facing the street. Can we say hilarious?! Lol! They are located on south campus of The Ohio State University and the environment is pretty busy. For the most part, service is pretty good. I do wish though that the prices were a little bit more student friendly. Meaning that you could possibly pay $10-12 for one person for breakfast if you include a beverage. Other than that, I do enjoy the comfort food they serve because it can be great for any hangover, which is something I was experiencing when I arrived.

Cannot say enough great things about Hangover easy! Their breakfast is great and their lunch is even better! Good for the afternoon craft beer at lunch, or the Sunday morning mimosa. Be sure to check out their specials board, there's usually some very tasty and interesting selections! The place is really clean and is convenient to Ohio State's campus. It does close up earlier in the day, and make sure to check their hours during football season!

I first visited Hang Over Easy shortly after it opened 5 years ago. That visit marked the best breakfast I have ever had in Columbus. Since then, the quality has ebbed and flowed like the tides of Lake Erie: sometimes pleasant, others rancid. I think it was the tough economy that forced students to eat in and cut heavily into HOE's profits, forcing a change in product. But enough about the past. Here is the lowdown on the place today. Eggs - prepared exactly as I ordered them HOE Fries - heavily peppered home fries are just OK, could use less pepper Toast - Actually really, really great. High quality bread French toast - on French style bread, good but not great Coffee - average The food alone would make this place 3 stars in my book. So why does it get 4 stars? Because it serves breakfast after noon and has a full bar. Because a good morning is made great with a Screwdriver or Bloody Mary. And because, let's just say, the view is pretty great from this first floor college location.

I really enjoyed the breakfast. They seemed to take pride I the food. I didn't like the 50 minute wait on Sunday or the cramped space....$4 mimosa made it better. They have a coffee bar and a nice selection of beers at the other bar. I will try it again for lunch or an early dinner.

I really like this place! Fun atmosphere, great food for anyone that does not care about calories. I would recommend going during the summer when school is out. Otherwise there is usually an hour long wait all day long.

My coworkers and I eat here all the time for lunch. I have yet to have anything here that isn't good. In particular, I'm a fan of the gyro, the chicken and waffles, and the HOE burger which is so messy but so good! They have a wonderful fresh fruit bowl although they recently upped the price to $6, although you get a lot of fruit of various types. You can get breakfast any time and it's quite tasty. My only problems with the place are that it's loud, not very comfortable, and they need wifi because cell reception in there is awful. I usually wouldn't care about cell reception, but, since I'm eating there for lunch on weekdays, I might need to answer a work-related page.

My daughter and I had breakfast here and were both very pleased with the food, service and atmosphere. We shared an order of green eggs and ham and an order of French toast, both dishes were delicious. The pricing is very reasonable as well. This place is definately a two thumbs up and recommend it to those who are tired of the usual fastfood fair.

Went here for lunch, and had breakfast. Had the Western Omelette. Pretty good omelette. Service was good. People were complaining about the price on here, but mine was 6.50 which I do not think is bad. Glad I tried this place.

I love going here for breakfast when I'm up for a change. Cheap selection (obviously since it's on campus) and quick service. Lots of TVs and cool decor. I usually defaul to German Village Coffee Shop, but this place is probably number 2.

Drove through Columbus and stopped here from a Buckeye's recommendation. I thought the food was really good and the place itself reminded me of a restaurant that you'd find in Austin, TX. All in all, I thought this place was pretty kick ass and our waitress was incredibly nice.

I spent a year living a block from this place--I've eaten here at least forty times. The staff are friendly and attentive, the breakfast delicious, and for my money, HOE has the best buffalo chicken sandwich in the city. The corned-beef hash is also to die for, and the blue-plate specials (one for each day of the week, rotated about once a quarter) are always yummy. I never really did much drinking here--mostly lunches--but as a spot for a delicious, albeit thoroughly unhealthy, meal near campus there is none better.

I gotta give this place an extra star just because of the names of the items on the menu... I'll leave that to each customer to see if they like the colorful names. Definitely a college campus breakfast/bar nook. The breakfast menu looked really good, but I got a bacon bleu burger (it was a tough decision). The burger was juicy and they didn't skimp on the bacon or blue cheese. The only problem was that the bun was of the wonder bread quality so it really didn't hold its composer for long. The curly fries there are really good though (they taste like other places, but I really can't say no to curly fries).

Chicken Chorizo Skillet blew my hungover mind. There is a small outdoor seating area which is nice if the weather is cooperative. The service was decent, the coffee was decent; but man oh man, the food put this place over the top. If you've got a large hungover appetite, there may not be a better cure than their skillets. If I'm ever back in Columbus, I shall return!

First I have to admit I was hungover when I went there. I truly believe if a place has the word hangover in it's title you're obligated to try the food with a hangover at least once. I went very basic for my first time. Scrambled eggs, bacon, hoe fries, and toast. If you can't make the basics properly our food romance is already over.Hang over easy this might be more than a one time hook up. My food was good but it must have flown in out of state because it took a long time. The service was wonderful I'm sure that had a lot to do with there being only 2 other people in the place.I will definately return to try some of the other fare on the menu.I promise to return without a hangover and a more experimental stomach.

This would've been a five from my first visit, but my second was a three at best. The BEST patty melt i have EVER had. Period. How good? I almost forgive my $25 parking ticket from working in the area for finding it. Second visit, the "Tony Danza" sausage sandwich was just okay at best. I've grilled far better myself. Fries are forgettable, and the c hips make me miss the Pub's crisps something fierce. The atmosphere is very nice, great little cafe with nice flatscreens on the wall, nice seating and a great staff. Really wish I'd had a chance to try more of their menu and give a more thorough review. They have a Tuesday special called a Brat Reuben that I would really like to hear about, if anybody knows... Worth a visit, even if you have to eye your watch to know when to feed the meter.

Your quintessential college town beer/burger joint done fairly well. I can't see this place being great enough to be featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives -- but it's not bad. - Great burgers, salads, and three choices on the fries (they're all yummy) - Great service - Great prices - Great atmosphere - Next time I really want to try the breakfast

LOVED this place! Very unique and kitschy with great homemade breakfast eats. We followed the tip to get there before 11 (before the OSU kids were conscious) and our group of 5 was seated as soon as we walked in. By the time we were done, the line was out the door.

Like Matthew B., I also never gave much thought to the campus bar/diner Hang Over Easy - I walk by it a lot, sure, and I have taught in two different buildings right across the street - but I have never been inside. Frankly, undergrads, when not in my classroom, sort of terrify me, so I try not to hang out in places they go. Well, it turns out this lil' bar-diner is much more diverse than, say, Cazuela's or the *shudder* O Patio - there are med students, grad students, professors AND undergrads chillaxin' up in hurr. One of my favourite professors took me here today, and said this was his favourite place on campus. Never having been to Hang Over Easy, I had to laugh - frrly? But, once we went inside, it became clear that this place, if named something else, could be anywhere in the city - it's a great little spot to get some classic diner food, and apparently at night, it becomes a bar (though I can't imagine who goes to Neil/11th at night...). My omlet and Prof's veggie burger were good - very classic diner-y food. I wish they'd kept the coffee flowing a bit more - two small mugs of diner-quality coffee is not gonna do it for me. However, service was attentive and the place really got busy, as we were there around lunch time, so this is obviously a popular spot for those with classes, offices, or labs around Neil Ave. Sad that I only got to know this place now that I am leaving. I agree with Prof. - it's one of the hidden gems of campus. Given that it's a diner on campus, however, I'm going to go with three stars, a-ok!

Love this place for weekend breakfast! It's almost always packed well into the afternoon on weekends. Lots of cheap breakfast and lunch options, and almost all the selections are pretty good. I like the pancakes and basic breakfast standards, as well as the tuna melt sandwich. Coffee is good, too. The portions are pretty large, especially the Ramblin Man and the Dirty Sanchez burrito (yes, I know). Service is fine. From what I can tell, they have a good beer selection for happy hour, but are only open until around 7pm.

Color me effin' surprised! Whoa! I had never given much thought to Hang Over Easy. It opened while I was still a Campus Rat, but I never got 'round to 'em. For one thing, I had been to whatever-this-place-was before it was Hang Over Easy, and I had not been overly impressed. For another thing, it rests close to the place where J. R. Miggs once stood, the true Imperial Capital of Campus Food, and I'm STILL so fucking sore over the loss of J.R. Miggs that I kind of hate everything on Neil Ave. just on general principle. But enough of that hogshit, because my old lady and I got down to Hang Over Easy recently on our never-ending quest to eat at EVERY BREAKFAST DINER EVER, and it was definitely not one of the worst greasy spoons we've gone to- in fact, from the one experience we've had there, I'd even put it on a fairly constructed, if not exactly resplendent, pedestal. First, the things that make me put my hands up in a defensive posture and go "eh...". The name of the place is sophomoric, but okay, it's on campus (and boozy South Campus, at that). The little mini-bar at the entrance makes navigating your first entrance a little wonkier than need be. But mostly, the use of their name as an acronym so they can call their home fries "hoe fries" goes a little past the sophomoric into the supermoronic. Points off, but oh well, because... The menu is INSANE. It covers so many bases in so many interesting ways that I NEED to go back. It's really not all that far off from any other greasy spoon: breakfast, sandwiches, burgers. But the menu itself is of a very lively and fun design, and it has some real quirks and folds to it, in terms of what it offers, that is not your average diner fare. From creatively named sandwiches with great-sounding ingredient choices to the fact that one of their standard burgers comes with an egg and some bacon on it (best idea ever), this place demands I return. On my one visit I went with a more or less normal breakfast, which included their "HOE fries" (which, actually, are quite good) and HOME MADE corned beef and hash. Yep, home made. AND EFFING DELICIOUS. More than once as I scarfed down my meal like some long-forgotten prisoner who has lived on toenails for months I was heard to exclaim, "Jesus, why didn't we come here sooner?! Shit's fantastic!" For the kicker, the place is decorated with all sorts of actually-interesting tchotchkes and souvenirs. Even after the meal arrived I was craning my neck to inspect it all. In summation, YES PLEASE. Even now I feel some strange supernatural gravity-like force pulling me back into the orbit of Hang Over Easy. Ignore the smarmy signs, get in there, and eat. If you're anything like me (you lucky bastard), you'll be glad you did.

On paper, it seems as if there's no possible way for Hangover Easy to fail. It serves breakfast until 2 pm, it has a fully functioning bar, and it's practically located right on OSU's campus. What could possibly go wrong? The food, that's what. Although not as half-cocked as the grub at Jack & Benny's or Rise & Dine, two unforgivably bad greasy spoons that would be the closest thing this small South Campus diner has to competition, I've never been happy with anything I've ordered here. It's not bad enough to send me running to the hills every time a friend mentions the idea of walking here on a lazy Sunday morning (which is obviously when their services are needed most), but I'm never thrilled about the experience. The fervor with which I attack my food at Bob Evans or Denny's is rarely present on these occasions, that's for sure. I've always been an omelet guy, which is the main reason why the food here is such a bummer. The omelets they cook up here are the kind that make you wonder if the person manning the grill is even wearing gloves or refraining from picking their nose while your food gets cooked a minute or two too long. The texture is clammy, the meat is undercooked, and the edges have an obscure crispiness to them that's not unlike the bottom of a Hostess Twinkie. If you close your eyes (or are unable to pry them open, for that matter), it's definitely edible. Hell, the cheese content alone is enough to keep me ordering the ham and cheese omelet every time I come back. It just happens to be that I rarely ever wish for that to happen after my plate is clean. Another let down here is the hash browns. They're utterly flavorless and would be nothing more than spackle if it wasn't for the bottle of Heinz that's situated at your table. Why not give Hangover Easy a measly one star, you might ask? The booze. As any alcoholic knows, the best way to cure a hangover is to get drunk all over again. The name says it all, I suppose: a stiff drink and a greasy pile of slop is just what the doctor ordered. The Bloody Marys here are epic, and any other mixed drink is more than enough to knock you (back) on your ass after just two. And seeing as the overhead here is presumably low, they're cheap as well. It rarely looks as if the bartender is up for making them, but the blended drinks on the menu look tempting as well. Thus is the crux of hangover easy, and life in general, I suppose: it's best when enjoyed with a cocktail or two. Ahh, college.

Hangover Easy is a great idea if you are indeed hungover...because then, perhaps, you can get over the intense dirty bar smell. The food is fine, and before (9am?) you can get the $1.95 2 egg dish. But, it's nothing special and a bit disappointing if you are sober. However, it's fun just going there for $1 PBRs after class. I believe they have cheap mimosas as well. I still can't get over the smell of the place. It just doesn't go will with my breakfast...

Selection of beer was good. 2 dollar Guinness. Bloody Mary was delicious. Ordered Pulled Pork Sandwich Thursday special and Frog Eyes ( biscuits and gravy with 2 eggs) . Highly recommend for a twist on breakfast with a full bar.

  • Sara F.
