I stopped in tonight after seeing it mentioned in a local paper. It's two blocks north of Hudson Street and it's owned by a family from Jeruselem. Mom and dad are working in the kitchen and the hours are amazing; at least 11;00 pm every night but Sunday. And the food!! Sandwiches, desserts, salads, hummus, and baba ganoush and the list just goes on and on! I had a "side" dish (more like a whole portion) of tomato salad with onions, and cucumbers. And then he brought me an order of kefti kebab wrapped in several layers of puffed pastry. Delicious! It was amazing to me that they could be this organized after just opening. I had to skip the desserts tonight; no room. But you can bet that won't happen again!

The friendly and eager-to-please proprietors of the Grill House Deli have taken over Beyrouth Cafe's old space. It's immediately clear upon entering that they've put both effort and money into redoing the place; it's now a bright, light-filled dining area that is a pleasant place to sit for a casual meal. I have to admit, I miss the huge Lebanese flag mural from Beyrouth Cafe, but given that the new owners are from Jerusalem (according to Paul F.), it's understandable that it's no longer there. The menu is a mix of deli sandwiches and standard Middle Eastern dishes, plus a handful of homemade desserts. We opted for the Grill House Mixed Appetizer, which gave us a sampling of their appetizers (hummus, baba ghanoush, kebbeh, falafel, and stuffed grape leaves), plus the lamb kebab meal. Our immediate impression was that the food was honest; that is, simple dishes prepared with care and sincerity that you would be served if you were a guest in someone's home in that part of the world. All five appetizers were good; the standouts were the baba ghanoush and particularly the falafel, which is probably one of the best I've had. The lamb kebabs had a nice delicate taste, were perfectly grilled (slightly pink inside), and accompanied by rice and a lovely salad of diced tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers. Given the quality of our entrees, we had to follow up with dessert, of course - baklava, semolina cake, and sesame cake. They were of equal quality to our entrees. I'm sorry to see Beyrouth Cafe go, but it's nice to see a restaurant of the quality of the Grill House Deli take its place. Just make sure you don't follow Paul F.'s example; save room for dessert!

I really enjoyed my visit. The Chicken Shawarma was fresh and full of exciting flavors. While I was surprised to see French fries came along with it, they were fantastic and perfectly seasoned. Well done, Grill House Deli.

Platter prices start around $11, but that includes two sides. In my case, I got babaganoush and hummus with decent amount of pita. Ended up being too much food for one person.

I'm out of town from a big city and trying to mind my money while traveling. I also love falafel. The proprietors are so courteous and welcoming. I was shocked that a falafel sandwich and fries (a generous portion) were only five dollars. The price lowered my expectations, but they shouldn't have: the vegetables were unbelievably fresh, the fries were seasoned well without being salty, and the falafel was a great combo of crisp and chewy. Not as spicy as most Mediterranean food I normally had, but the portions were generous but small enough for a single sitting. Well done, great restaurant!

Service was excellent. Food was fresh and fast, and falafel was perfectly cooked. I've been here twice and will keep coming back.

I'm kind of torn with this place. I wanted to like it.. I was excited to try it given the positive reviews regarding food and service. Our experience was nowhere near what I was expecting. First, there is no sign with the name outside the restaurant so I ended up driving by twice before I figured out where it was located. . I even asked my friend as we were leaving just to make sure I didn't just miss it, but she said she did the same thing. They did display a newpaper review in the window which is eventually what clued me in. Second, I had scoured the online menu prior to arriving only to find out that the menu was not the same and that the waitress did not know anything about what was offered online. I was interested in trying the grill house mixed appetizer however it was not on their printed menu and they were not able to accommodate the request. I was told by the waitress that the menu I had "might be from one of the other locations". what? wasn't this a new small family owned business? The service was minimal, at one point I walked up to the counter to give my order and we paid at the time of ordering at the counter. No one checked on us during our meal so I had to get up and walk over to the counter both to inform them they had forgotten one our dishes in the middle of the meal as well as request take out boxes at the end. The food, however, was excellent. our main courses came with two side dishes that were on par with full sides that you could get from other similar establishments. The babaganush and hummus "sides" were delicious, though a bit heavy handed with the olive oil. Since my second choice of lamb kababs was not an option (again on the online menu but not the in house menu), I went with the kefta kabob which tasted fresh and was nicely seasoned. The display case in the front shows the raw meat which is nice since you can see that everything looks fresh. With the dining experience we had, I won't be going back to eat but the food is good that it may warrant a second try for take out.
