I think I may have over rated this the 1st time my kids and I went. We went back again, this time with my husband and my oldest son as well. He took 1 bite of their salad dressing and shot me a look of disgust (I was smart this time....I took my own dressing...yes, I know, that's ghetto). I knew exactly what he was thinking because I thought the same thing the 1st time I tasted that horrific, nasty, gross "salad dressing" they use. The food was overcooked (not burnt but the meat was a little tough) and the chef used waayyyy too much butter when cooking this time. We probably wont be back unless something changes...and I hope it does. We live less that 10 minutes from here! We would love to make this a regular spot.

I was 110% unimpressed with this place. My two friends really liked it, and I don't know why. Every Japanese Steakhouse I've been to (in Columbus and elsewhere) has been fantastically better. The service was okay, except my drink was always empty. The chef was good, but the food was meh. Just meh. I won't return, as I just, all-in-all, think there are several better selections in the area. I'll come back if my friends insist, but that's it. Not impressed.

The food here is typically our favorite for Japanese hibachi steakhouses. Which for taste of food everything we have been here and service I would give it a 4-5 star. However the last visit is being rated by our observation of service of another table and the service of ours. Same chef at both locations. We drove completely out of our way to bring out niece to this Japanese steakhouse. We wanted her to get the fantastic experience we have always received. She never been to a place like this. She even noticed by another table in another room that what we got wasn't near the same and she's 14 and never been to a hibachi steakhouse. So the table across from us was full and had several children and everyone looked bored to tears. The chef was just cooking their food and I looked at my husband and said I hope we don't get him as our chef. He did nothing special. Even the menus claim of entertainment. There was none. He barely even lit the table on fire for them and that was all he did. So I thought he must be new. So give him some slack. Then low and behold that's who we got. Barely lit our table on fire and did nothing else didn't even clang a spatula together. Didn't do the onion volcano didn't do anything with the eggs or rice or anything zip zilch nothing. I really want to give this a one star but i bumped it up just from the past which the average should be a three star however I'm really only wanting to put a one star due to this experience. We drove 30 minutes out of our way for the day just to bring the niece here. That's an hour round trip. Nuts yes and highly disappointed when we left. So as the chef was cooking I said so how long have you been doing this. He said 9 years and 9 years too long. That's the most he conversed with any of us. So I knew he wasn't new he was bored of his job and all of us and the atmosphere at that table that day suffered the experience and because of it as well as the table across from us and anyone else he served. He provided no entertaining experience. I feel ripped off and the food was over seasoned with something salty I usually have to add salt for my taste and this was too salty steak wasn't even fully cut up it was fatty in several spots which is rare. It was truly a sad poor experience. He not being happy of being there for 9 years effected the experience for others who are paying to help his wages. Her first experience was a disappointment and I feel bad for that. It was supposed to be cool and special. Flipping food and doing tricks and really putting on a show. We pay for that in the cost of our meal. We didn't receive. Now we are afraid to come again. We would of loved to bring our nephews as well but too much money and poor experience. We will have to look elsewhere. Hoping this helps the business fix the issues. Not to mention we noticed super hot summer day and little to no AC going which didn't add to the pleasant experience. Chef also never offered anyone the ginger sauce. My husband and I would of refused it but for the newbie she may of liked it. Thanks for reading this super long review.

We celebrated my daughter's birthday here last night. I printed off the Buy one get one coupons from the website. There were 4 of us and they took both coupons, it saved us $26! All four of us ordered the shogun dinner. Everything was good. The chicken was a little dry. My boyfriend said they fixed his steak perfectly - medium rare. Love their salad dressing on their salad as well as their food. I believe they are a tad bit over priced. The restaurant needs updating inside, especially the bar area with the glass aquariums as tables. They have been there forever and show their age. It is always a bit too dark too. Overall, I like it here and will be back.

Good food. Handicap accessible. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is it is very warm in there. I suppose that is to be expected in that type of place, but maybe some fans would help. I will go back. Best salad dressing.

Food was excellent, the waiter was very friendly and quick to get us anything we needed. I haven't been there for years, and now I think I'll be back more often.

I think this place is on its last leg. The parking lot is in a huge state of disrepair. The building is faded and crumbling. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by a broken stream which still has a bit of running water but is mostly empty, kinda like an abandoned pool. The rest of the inside is dimly lit to hide all of the age and wear and tear. Right off the bat the server brought the soup out which had one mushroom and one tiny piece of pork, it was mostly broth. To top it off, I think he brought me my neighbors uneaten soup. When we were seated the people at our shared table were finishing their soup. When we arrived the waiter took our drink order, then took two bowls of soup that the kids at the table didn't want to eat. Then a few minutes later the waiter returned with our drinks and soup....which wasn't hot which makes me believe it had been sitting at the table. Next the salads came out...pretty much the worst dressing I've had in a place like this, no hint of ginger. The iceberg lettuce was also very white and not green. I ordered the steak and shrimp, $22, with egg yolk sauce, add $1.50, and fried rice, add another $2.95. Most places do both for free. The fried rice was pretty weak an certainly not worth anywhere near $3. The hibachi meal itself wasn't bad. My shrimp was a bit overdone and the chef gave me a ton of egg yolk sauce. The brown sauce served with dinner was pretty bad while the yum yum sauce was outstanding. My steak, rare, while the portion was on the small side, it was as tender as a filet and cooked to perfection. The vegetables and bean sprouts were also cooked well and pretty good. Unlike some other japanese steakhouses such as Shi Chi, they don't give you any free ice cream for dessert. To be honest we only came here because we had a Groupon, otherwise I wouldn't have strayed from Shi Chi to cheat on her with a lesser woman. And oddly enough as soon as we got there they asked if we had a coupon and wanted to take the Groupon, I felt that this was odd and somewhat a slight on their part. Oh well, the Groupon is redeemed and we won't be back.

Some of the best hibachi in Columbus. The teriyaki chicken is amazing, the orange sauce and salad dressing are sooo good and why I keep coming back for more. The fried rice is the best I've ever had, but I usually just order white rice and dump orange sauce on it. The plum wine is fantastic, the food is always fresh. Don't go there for the decor, unless it's 70's night, but it is very authentic and I've been there probably 30-40 times.

This place is bad. Very bad. I usually go to House of Japan in Dublin for my hibachi needs but my friend had a groupon for $30 off. Sound too good to be true? Well, thats because it is. The building looks really cool and when you walk in it looks like it might be very nice, but the decor is asian-wannabe. We were abrasively greeted by a host who was on his phone and didn't notice us come in. Then he took us to our seat. The waiter came over, and as much as I appreciate somebody trying to be casual and 'cool' with me, when I am paying $25+ for a meal I would like to experience some sort of professionalism; instead i was greeted with 'sup, what kinda drink do you want?' I can handle bad service and I certainly understand that going into a restaurant 1 hour before they close may be the reason why i dont get top notch service. Other than the unprofessionalism, my drink was always full and he promptly took our orders. However, the grills were disgusting. Absolutely horrifying. They were hot and turned on for over 30 minutes before our chef came out. During this time I noticed that the ceiling was dripping grease onto the grill and onto the table that we were sitting at. The chef finally came out and I was pretty grossed out by the way the food was prepared... The raw chicken was sitting on top of all the veggies. This is cooking 101 people... raw chicken never touches anything. There was no show. No attempt at a show. This doesn't bother me so much... but if I am paying good money (which is the only reason MOST hibachis charge) then you can at least try to entertain us. It might have been the cook's first night, because he seemed very frazzled when he came to our table. I cannot believe the amount of salt he put on our meat. Oh my god. I couldn't even eat more than a couple bites. The portions are super small compared to other places and they cook everything in oil and it ruins the flavor of the meat they cook. Also, the steak is barely philly cheese steak thickness... All in all, I was hoping this place would be awesome, but it just seemed like nobody cared, and that it was very run down. It was rather depressing. I hope their management responds to this, but I have a feeling that their leadership is about as apathetic as their food.

The best thing about this place is the lunch specials. You can get quite a decent amount of food (salad, soup, and fried rice with chicken) for about $5. That alone is worth it. Service and atmosphere is pretty good too. Not the absolute best I have ever had, by definitely a good bang for your buck. Also, their salad dressing that is sinfully delicious? Yeah you can buy it here. And if you struggle with the whole salad thing, start here. You'll be finding excuses to have salads and your body will thank you.

Have gone here quite a few times over the course of many years and I would say the food and service are consistently good. I've been to House of Japan as well, and overall I find the quality and taste of the food to be very similar. However, there is one thing that I think makes Fujiyama stand out, and that's the salad dressing. It is so delicious. I just love that we can get a bottle of it to go and have it at home for a few days.

So the decor and parking lot could use some sprucing up and repair, but the food was great. I got the Shogun Lunch Special (chicken and steak), with fried rice. The salad was good, soup was good, and the main course was cooked perfectly, including the rice. Can't wait to go back!

Best lunch in Columbus, in my opinion. The lunch special is without a doubt the best deal you can possibly get anywhere, and the sauces are unique and delicious. The cooks work great and the salad, soup, main dish, etc. is all cooked perfectly. Decor, location, are all dated, but who cares when you get good food at a great price!

parking lot looks like the place is abandoned. inside is really nice, i'd like to hit a happy hour at their lounge. Like most hibachi places, if you don't come with a large group you're stuck sitting next to people you want nothing to do with- usually diners club members and get subjected with their stupid conversations. Our server was a nice guy, but kept botching the little knife twirls which always freaks me out ever since we went to Shi Chi and a bbq fork flew at my friends face. Anyways, the food was great and the portions were really large. I went there because we got a groupon but i think even without a discount this place is worth going to. I'd probably say its the best hibachi place I've been to. I'm also a fan of how low they kept the lights.

Classic hibachi service. Chefs put forth a good effort into the dinner service. Lovely entry area with water ambience, cocktail tables with fishtanks in them, several more fish tanks in the dining area. Plenty to keep kids entertained! Several dipping sauces with the food. Nice, sweet plum wine on the menu. Coupons on the net. Easy parking in the private lot.

I had never been to Fujiyama before last night. We got a dining club card for Christmas, and it was close to home so we figured we might as well check it out. I've been to other restaurants of this type, such as Genji, Japanese Steakhouse, House of Japan, and Benihana, so I have decent reference points. I give Fujiyama a 5 star rating for our experience last night. I almost gave it a 4, but the service really put it over the top for me. The food was good, but I have had better and more flavorful. I prefer Genji's food, and House of Japan usually offers a better show. That said, our chef was very funny, he just didn't put on much of a *cooking* show. Our server was very nice, making small talk with us and making sure that we had full drinks throughout the meal. The amount of food was more than I could handle, so as an added bonus to a great dinner I have enough to eat for lunch today. I'd gladly dine there again; the close location to home and savings we get with the dining club card make it a reasonably priced treat.

We visited this restaurant Sat 11-10-12 to use a groupon we had left over. The food was ok, timing was off though. Normally you get rice and vegtables early in the process. This visit they were the very last. We received our lobster first with nothing else on the plate, then some steak a few minutes later. Just seemed odd. We visit numerous Japenese steak houses yearly and this was one of the worst we have ever had. The main complaint is that my groupon app showed we still had one left. After ordering the waitress informed us that the computer said our Groupon was previously used on 10-25-12. We had not eaten there for over 2 months and this was not possible. She had the manager look into it and he came back saying it was on 5-5-12. No big deal-I accepted it and continued to eat. Then, the table next to us had a groupon and the same situation came up. This is when I got annoyed with the situation. It is possible that I did use it, but it is there responsibility to call it in and redem it. When this is happening to multiple people, it is a problem. They seemed to have good record of when things are used, but do they not call them in on purpose? Not sure, just irritating to think you have a $30 coupon offer and end up with nothing. I thought they may offer us $10 off like the vip coupon club coupons they always send out, but nothing like that. The rating is based on this experience only. If I were to base it on all other visits they would at least get 3 stars. I think all the other surrounding Japenese restaurants have a little better service and quality of food, but when using a Groupon it makes it a very good value.

So this was our first time here at this restaurant and lived in Columbus and the Northland area for over 17 years. Always thought I would not be a fan of this type of cuisine but since some friends with their kids had been there before we were willing to give it a chance at New Years day. Entrance and the waiting area was decorated with a small colorful river underground which gave it a special touch and had a few fish tank tables that were different to see. As were seated around the table it was 7 of us. We ordered our food, drinks came out, my coke was pretty watered down. Our soups came out next, not a fan of all water soup, but it was very tasty and flavorful and it had some mushrooms pieces floating in it. Next came our salads, in a small bowl just plain iceburg lettuce and tasted like a french dressing which was way too much for the amount of salad that we got and not other veggies. Then the chef came out with the meats and veggies and the rice he was cooking right in front of us with some small talk some jokes with the kids he started with the shrimp as an appetizer. He made some fire tricks with the onion and then cooked the rarest steak first and so on. Chicken was cooking in the process and then last the fried rice. The meal had good average flavor and everyone was polite and service was efficient. It could be a restaurant we could visit on occassion for our little one and special day every so often.

Great Japanese steak house. Been going there off and on for that past 20+ years. Very consistent and the food quality is alway very good.

I love this place. Some of my favorite memories from growing up are heading to Fujiyama before a play at the Palace or Ohio Theatre. Without the blinders of youth I can see that the place is a little dated and faded with the same greeter/hostess from 20 years ago, probably the owner actually. But it is still entertaining and decent food. Just don't go there expecting anything other than an hibachi joint. No sushi, but decent green tea upon request. The Geisha Delight is a bit overpriced but is a real yummy drink.

We had a coupon but even at half price it was only ok......The place was dark and dingy. The chef did not put on much of a show at all. The food was basic hibachi. I will not return to this Japanese Steakhouse again. There are many better kept and more enjoyable places in close distance.

Fujiyama has been a staple of dining on the North side of Columbus for about the past 15 years or so. It's been one of my favorites since I was ordering off the kids' menu. In traditional American "Japanese Steakhouse"-style, they do cook the food right in front of you on the hibachi, but the show aspect is definitely secondary to the food. From start to finish, the food at Fujiyama is the true star. The Hibachi dinners include: green tea, soup, salad, shrimp appetizer, vegetables, (steamed) rice, and the selected meat(s), making them a great deal. The showmanship varies from chef to chef, but the food quality is consistently high. Also worth mentioning are the salad dressing and sauces, which they received so many requests for that they are now sold in bottles at the front counter. The decor inside is nice, but is starting to show it's age - worn counters on the hibachis for example - and could do with some cleaning up around the edges. Still, it remains a great place for a great meal. Pros: dressing & sauces for sale, great food, typically quiet atmosphere Cons: aging decor

The BF & I went in on Friday because we had a coupon & I wasn't in the mood to cook. Thankfully it was easy to find since I'm unfamiliar with the area. For a Friday night there weren't many other patrons. Service was good & the chef definitely put on more of a show than I've seen at more expensive japanese steakhouses. Cost was $42 + tip for two. Usually we pay about $60. But the decor is so dated, so much so that I didn't actually feel the grill, table, menus, or anything else seemed clean. The food was good, but I'd feel better about going back if some updates were made.

My husband and I had been to Fujiyama's several times before our most recent trip. Those visits were satisfactory. We stopped going when on our last visit, we saw one of their chefs completely ruin the next table's meals. We didn't want to risk getting this chef on our next visit, so we found another restaurant to visit. We purchased a Groupon for Fujiyama's and decided to go back. BIG MISTAKE! This was by far the worst experience we've ever had. The service was terrible. Our waitress would disappear throughout the evening. There wasn't any "show" during the dinner (no onion volcano, no shrimp "tricks", no egg tricks - the egg came pre-scrambled sitting on top of the rice used for the fried rice, nothing!). We didn't receive the "Fuji" sauce for seafood until after all the food was cooked even after repeatedly asking for it. Our chef had to leave the table to chase down the waitress to bring it out. By that time, my shrimp was cold. We also didn't receive our steamed rice until after everything was cooked (when our waitress decided to grace us with her presence). We'll never come back to this restaurant even if they paid us.

A great time! The portions were huge, and our chef was awesome. Someone in a previous review said the portions were small and the food was bad, but they must have eaten somewhere else! Fujiyama was great!

What a terrible dining experience!! Had the smallest sushi ever!! The dressing on the salad was inedible and I didn't even attempt the soup. Our portions were ridiculously small and the rice was very, very salty. I've been to probably three dozen or so hibachi grilles across the country and this one with out a doubt ranks as the worst!!! DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Disappointing. I was on a mission to find a hibachi worthy of celebrating a special occasion at, and the yelp reviews for Fujiyama had me under the impression that this was the best one in the area. If that is true however, then I must conclude that Columbus simply doesn't have any decent hibachis. On one hand, it is a fine place for suburban midwesterners who are afraid of culture to try something different, as it is the most Americanized Japanese cuisine I've ever had. And the atmosphere of the place is fairly impressive, with some unique decor. On the other hand, compared to both other hibachis and restaurants in general, it is mediocre at best. The food: My first disappointment came when I asked for the sushi menu. They did not have sushi. Neither did they have edamame, sake or tea. And here I was all ready to try sea urchin for the first time! I was plain bewildered but I figured, "Hey, a place that's good at what they do doesn't need all the extras anyway." Except that their food was only okay. Tasty, but not worth the money you pay for it by a long shot. The service: Our hibachi chef was not actually a hibachi chef. Our meal was devoid of knife twirling, egg tossing, and any sort of tricks or showmanship. He timed the meal poorly, and he overcooked my steak to boot. The waitress was inattentive and my glass was empty more often than not. My mother meant to surprise me for my birthday and asked the waitress to bring me the sparkling pineapple, and it was given to the wrong group of people. And they had the cheap kind of chopsticks you have to break apart. What the hell, yelp? I feel like I can't trust you anymore.

Went here for Mother's Day lunch. It wasn't very busy at all to my surprise on one of the biggest dining out holidays of the year. Good for us-we got a table right away! I LOVE Japanese Steakhouses. This place to me was just average. Nothing really spectacular about our dining experience. Decor is definitely old-school, but this place has been here for years. Service was prompt & efficient by our server-nothing super friendly but pleasant. The chef, however, over cooked our Lobster. I'm not one to complain & with all the food we had on our plates my craving for fried rice waws satisfied. Their 'Fuji" dipping sauce is a watered-down version of Genji (in my opinion the BEST Japanese Steakhouse in Cbus) Yum-Yum sauce, but the ginger steak sauce I actually enjoyed more than Genji. I'm still amazed that there are dine-in restaurants out there that do not offer free refills. At a price of $1.95 for a 14oz. fountain soda with no free refills, I should have opted for a cocktail instead. Overall this is just an average restaurant. Nothing extraordinary but no complaints to make a big deal about either.

Got the deal on Groupon. I go to many Japanese Steak House. This one nothing was impressive at all. I like to eat and I'm not picky but....It was too obvious that the filet and shrimp, were frozen old meat. It lost it's softness and natural sweetness. How ever way the cook made it, it didn't taste good. Scallops, they are small, no yolk sauce, didn't taste good. Fried rice....I don't know. This is the first Japanese stake house that I don't like their fried rice. I can totally just make that at home myself and will turn out better (I'm not a good cook). The cook talked way way too much, cooked so slow that one of the customers had to say how starving she was so he could focus on cooking our food more than telling us about his kid. The menu, they don't have good combos like other places. You can just order this or that. So, I won't go back there again even with a deal or free. There are some other Japanese stake house around there that actually know what their business is about. Quality and deliciousness.

Great food. Adequate service and very nice chefs. I would definitely recommend. We sat at a table with a couple children, and the chef was amazing and had them entertained the whole time. My chicken, steak, and shrimp were all delicious. The fried rice was above average.

First impression walking in is that the restaurant hasn't been updated since the 70s.I'm good with that though, I like the cute garden scapes and koi ponds. I also enjoyed the lit up aquariums throughout the place. They have the stations set up into quadrants seating 3 people each (6 per half circle). Because of this setup they can easily prepare for 2-3 as they can 6 without making you wait for more people to join the table. We had the chicken dinner and the steak dinner. All dinners come with a shrimp hibachi appetizer, soup and salad. The soup was a fairly standard clear broth with a few mushrooms in it, but it was flavorful and rich. The salad dressing they used was delicious in my opinion, however my husband did not feel the same. The shrimp was well cooked and complimented by the ginger dipping sauce. For the entrée the chicken was a little dry and needed some salt but with the yum yum dipping sauce was delicious. The steak was cooked perfectly (med rare) and had good flavor and tenderness. We did not order the fried rice but since the couple in the other part of our circle had ordered it the chef gave us a sample of it on our plates, I will definitely get it next time we go. The vegetables were well seasoned as well. Service was attentive and moved at a good pace. They were friendly and happy to accept my Groupon. I considered it a good value with the coupon taken into consideration. I'm not sure I would go again if I had to pay full price. The restaurant is no longer in a prime location and has so many competitors now that it is unfortunately past is hay day. However I hope to see it get its second wind and stay in business for a long time to come. In general I've always felt Japanese steakhouses are a little over priced so I'd rate it average in prices and recommend it to anyone looking for that style of dining.

Fujiyama is what I refer to as a "once in a lifetime experience" meaning I won't be back. The one positive thing I can say is that the waitress was very attentive and kept our glasses full of tea and water the whole time. However, we were the ONLY table in the restaurant. As another review stated the opening soup (which I would expect to be miso or good chinese vegetable) was in fact beef broth with freeze dried mushrooms and french fried onions (the ones you put on your green bean casserole at Thanksgiving, really, I can't make this up) I had a $15 for $30 groupon and my friend and I both ordered the vegetable dinner. Our waitress let us know we still had some money left over and would I Like to add something else. I asked for the California Roll, they were out. She said I could take home a bottle of the salad dressing so I opted for that, before trying it. When the salads came I realized I would not be taking the dressing home. A different review also noted the weird dressing. It seemed like a sour cream base. The chef did an OK job. I figured you couldn't really mess up vegetables but they were highly over seasoned. For two girls who like some salty food we were trying to get our rice to soak up as much of it as we could. Keep looking!

I'm a little surprised at all the great reviews here on Yelp. I'm wondering if those folks haven't tried many hibachi places before. Even so I'll give it three stars. Hibachi is hibachi after all, the menu at every place is nearly identical to every other, so it really comes down to the details when comparing. Most importantly, the food was very good, again for what it is and the portion was humongous. I was a little disappointed in the show. Maybe it was just a slow Sunday night, or maybe the chef was having a rough day, but he just seemed bored and rushed. For me, hibachi is less about the food and more about the show and this one was lacking. Otherwise the service was fine and the atmosphere was nice. It will probably be a while before I go back there, but if I do I'll update this post. Maybe it was just an off night. All in all, not bad.

Don't be intimidated by its bleak exterior, this Japanese steakhouse is as good as it gets! The food, service and staff were wonderful! Our chef was super friendly and interacted with everyone at the table. The salad dressing and Fuji sauce were wonderful, but if you want a really special treat get the Egg Yolk Sauce! We will definitely be returning and are done with any other Japanese Steakhouse around!

It has been a long time since I have been to Fujiyama. We came for a friend's birthday. We wanted to surprise her and all be sitting at the table when she arrived but the hostess was rude. She seemed very annoyed. She eventually seated us though, but not without letting us know she was not thrilled about it. They must be hurting here though because the place was not very crowded for a Friday night. Our server told us without the coupons they do now they would not be in business. I also do not think the location helps them at all. Although our dining expirence started out rocky it only got better. Our server and chef were great. They were both very entertaining. I assume they have had to step up their game due to the lack of business. The food was just as good as I had remembered.

Fujiyama has terrible food, service and decor. This place is not in any way a representation of a good hibachi restaurant. Another reviewer commented that they think they've just given up, and I wholeheartedly agree with that statement. 1) FOOD: Everything was either too salty, oily or bland. The hot tea tasted like they may have briefly dragged one green teabag in the pot a couple of weeks previous. The salad was some white trash concoction with nothing but iceberg lettuce and a big glop of awful mayo-based dressing. They didn't put Sakura sauce on my scallops, and when I asked about it, they said they would do it for a buck extra. The soup was ridiculous . . . I can't even go on. Please read some of the other negative reviews to get a better picture of how awful their food is. 2) SERVICE: The table chef was totally bored and even admitted to us that he hated his job! The hostess filling the greasy water glasses looked completely worn to a frazzle, but at least she was somewhat friendly and Asian! 3) DECOR: The overhead 'music' was contemporary pop from Sirius radio, and when I requested that they put on Japanese music, they just looked at me blankly and said that the owner didn't like that kind of music. WTF?! The decor is some attempt by an 80s American decorator to make it look Asian, but it's just cheap, worn and dirty crap strewn about the place (at least the one fish in the tank was alive with her plastic jellyfish tied down with fishing line). The bridge in the lobby looks like they got it secondhand from an abandoned theme park. We had a Groupon, but we wouldn't eat there again even if our meals were free.

I don't care what anyone says about the looks of this place. The food is always consistent, service is always fast and portions always have you leaving with a box in your hands. I hope they invest some money into this place or move - because I don't want to see it go away. Chicken is a little on the dry side for hibachi because they leave it on the grill while cooking other food - but other than that everything is good. Delicious salad dressing, good side sauces. Big bowls of rice. I love this joint.

A whole night of meh-generally I have had better. Worth a try, but we won't be back. 1) Called ahead for seating as we were walking out the door. Went back and forth a bit with the hostess who was a little short. But that wasn't a big deal. Great, you seat on the half hour only and wont take a 615 reservation, ok, we are on the way, set it for 630 then, awesome see you soon. 2) We arrive, easy to park, good location/easy to find. Nice place, kitschy, walking over a bridge with koi to get to the hostess. Servers in kimonos, typical. 3) Note, NO SUSHI AT THIS LOCATION.....I always like the option when at a hibachi restaurant. They have it on the menu, but do not make it...FYI...really they offer nothing else then hibachi cooking. 4) Hibachi places have a formula. You get the hibachi dinner its: -salad with some sort of creamy gingery dressing -theirs was piled on and just ok -onion broth soup -meat/fish of your choice (I got the filet/shrimp, and the steak was over seasoned with too much soy sauce) -fried or steamed rice -hibachi vegis -side of 2 dipping sauces (I find that i don't need these as long as the meat is cooked and well seasoned, but thats me. These were just ok 5) no dessert or ice cream with the meal as I have had in the past. On a plus the cook was very nice, personable, did the typical "show" of the onion volcano, banging the spatulas, shrimp + egg in the pocket/hat. The usual. The place is fine, but not for me.

The thing about Fujiyama is that in it's prime, it was the only hibachi style Japanese steakhouse in Columbus, at least that I remember. It was unique and I remember as a kid, it was always super busy and had a long wait. It was a special occasion restaurant, for a birthday or anniversary, and we always had a good time. Flash forward 20 years and Fujiyama has to compete with several other Japanese steakhouses around town that are newer and quite frankly, better. The food here is always good, but it's also the same as any other Japanese steakhouse. The building is so cool and unique, but I feel like it needs a clean up and it needs it badly. One thing I noticed is that the lights are very low in here and it made me wonder...are the lights low because they want to showcase the fire of the grill and the cool aquariums, or are the lights low because they want to hide dirt and the worn out carpet and paint? You shouldn't feel that way when you are spending $25+ on a dinner. I love the salad dressing here, though, and the sauces they serve with the meal are great, especially the ginger dipping sauce. The only reason I came back to Fujiyama was because of a Groupon my friend had and that's really the only time I would return again, unless it gets a face-lift in the future.

Cancel everything below. Hibachi meal enjoyment to bathroom trip frequency ratio has taken a severe nosedive. Frightened of the hours to come. Zero stars zero stars!!!! Ughhh let my suffering save you! Umm.... I mean... sigh. This place has all the pieces and I wonder if in its heyday the surrounding area of Cleveland ave wasn't so...Cleveland avenue-y. The shoddy exterior had me slowing my steps and the low level of lighting was so low I had to stop and get my bearings. Is this restaurant a time portal into early 80s? Muave cushiony seating that rested on wicker looked worn even without being lit, I really don't want to spend any time thinking about what that place looks like with the lights on. The smell that greets you at the door is strange as well, sort of musty and sea-worldy. There's a huge lounge and bar area with fish tank tables that was completely empty on a Friday night at 7pm. Only two hibachi tables were occupied. Things looked up a little here, the server was very attentive and traditional in her serving, we had everything we needed before having to ask. She clearly knew some regulars and was a highlight of the evening. The soup was alright, salty and more like French onion than any soup I've had at a hibachi restaurant. The dressing on the salad, however...uh-uh. If I wanted bacon mayonnaise ranch I would go to a bbq place. That was weird and thick and I was super disappointed to see it come back out again as the yum yum sauce. Shrimp, tasty and tender, scallops DELICIOUS! Steak cooked well and tasty, rice salty but yummy, mushrooms, zucchini, onions, bean sprouts, really a lot of food and the food was all good, minus the yum yum sauce. I want to say that if this place had a good top to bottom cleaning and furniture update it's got all the necessary pieces to be great but I'm not sure it could ever thrive again in that part of town.

I haven't been here in about a decade. It's not quite close to my home, but I do recall the food being delicious. We had a Groupon and went here and loved it. We went on a Wednesday so it was nice and quiet. The food was fantastic. I got the filet and lobster plate and loved it. The chef was very friendly and nice as well as excellent in making our dinners taste great. The atmosphere was pleasant and inviting. Some places are dirty or just not that great, but not here. The only downside is no sushi menu. They have a California roll, but if that's all they have, I wouldn't fully trust it. I didn't come here for the sushi, but would frequent a return if they had a dedicated sushi menu.

Really bad service, DO NOT GO THERE!!! The waiter also discriminated. One of my friends ordered the vegetarian meal and told the chef to cook separate he told her to go seat at different table. Also at the end everyone at our table were given ice cream except us, and it wasn't even anyone's birthday.

Fujiyama's glory days are past; but that's okay. Go, and enjoy the decor, the show, the food. This place has been around forever and somehow I waited this long to go. I'm sure at one time it was the only place like it in town. Now, there's lots of competition. And some are doing it better and cheaper. Prices are a bit high, even for this category. Not a lot, just a bit. However, you do pay for extras (such as fried rice) that are included elsewhere. Service was good; the waiter was pretty helpful, and the chef, while perhaps not as showy as some, was funny and a good cook. The food was, well, pretty much what you get at any place like this. (Fuji sauce instead of "yumyum" sauce, but it's the same thing.) Soundtrack was kind of odd to me- classic rock, I guess a Japanese tradition. But it was kinda cool to hear Zeppelin and the Dead while watching the show... We went on a very hot day and the AC was not keeping up with the grills, but it was tolerable.

Old. Dirty. Smells like the thrift store. The food was decent until myself, my husband and our friends had to take emergency trips to the bathroom. The other lady in the stall next to me wasn't doing so well either. Just saying. Never again. Don't do it.

This place kinda grossed me out. Interior is seriously outdated (felt like I was in the 80's) and seems slightly dirty - not a good feeling when you're planning on eating at the place. The food was probably the worst hibachi I've ever had. Genjis is the way to go. The food was EXTREMELY salty, and the water had a distinct metal taste. Needless to say, I won't be back.

Only having had hibachi at a chain like benihanas and in Europa maybe I am not the best judge. It was very good, but I prefer Benihana anyday and every day. First off the servers are annoying, they what your order right away and just stand there and I always take forever to figure out what all I want and need. This usually makes them lose money or I change my mind and they have to come back twice again which was the case here. Finally I settled on the chicken, my husband the filet and shrimp. (her bothering me I got the cheapest $7 meal to get her off my back) I love that at lunch you get soup, salad and fried rice, an none of the entrees were over $15. The salad at Benihanas is my favorite part, I LIVE for their ginger dressing and was so dissapointed when I saw this huge thick and creamy glob on my tiny salad. I ate it (also my husbands who after seeing it said he was not touching that), therefore he got both soups, onion, they were good he said, clear broth and one onin string that he said tasted like a funion, ok... The show, there was no show, guy cooked the food. I was dissapointed with this the last few times I went to Benihanas as well. Is it just because I was a kid I remember it being all that, its half the fun. Oh well, the meats and rice were excellent as well as the rice. What sucked is the sauces, at Benihanas (sorry for the constant compairison) you get all kinds of little sauce bowls and I love them all. Here you get one and its the same damn salad dressing! WTF??? I asked them for sauce, ginger, soy anything, I got a bottle of soy sauce and another little creamy dish that did have a faint hint of ginger and I ate since I need sauce on everything. The meat was good quality, but again the servers rushed and took other diners plates before they were done eating (you ain't touching mine lady) and brought our the bill while we were still eating. Too fast and obnoxious for my taste but still a very good meal at a rediciously cheap price, no need to spend triple at dinner.

Despite the outdated look of the restaurant, this place has some great perks. It is the most inexpensive Japanese Steakhouse that I've been to, but the food is comparable to other great restaurants. You can find coupons online, with your entertainment card, or in local coupon magazines. The service is fast and reliable, and all of the staff are very welcoming. I'd recommend just going for the soup and salad alone if you aren't that hungry, as they are so appetizing!

Love love love this place. It has spoiled me for other Japanese steakhouses. We go here at least 6 times a year, usually for special occasions, as we usually take 4 to 5 in our party and the ticket is usually $125+. We love the show and the waitstaff (who always ask if we have a coupon, and always gives us another one for next time). Drinks are refilled promptly and correctly, without having to ask. Soups and salads (with their fabulous homemade dressing) come out right away. We get a variety of dishes, but always some steak or fish and steak combo. The food is delicious. The seasoning are just right, and my daughter is MSG sensitive, and we never have a problem here.

My hopes walking in the door were none, I had no preconceptions or desires from this place, I came here with my girlfriend who had a $25 gift certificate, so I was thinking: cheap dinner! So walking in I was pretty impressed by the waiting area, nice and cozy atmosphere to sit and wait, many chairs and booths with a full-service bar and a friendly bartender, whose conversation I overheard (that the wait was so long because they were short on chefs). It was about an hour and a half wait for two people, but without a reservation on a Saturday night, nothing completely unexpected and a sure sign, I thought, that the food would be worth it. Waiting at the bar, drinking a beer, I had to put my gloves back on (never took my jacket off), because the heat was set so low. I was a little irritated that they would neglect the comfort of the waiting diners like that. Oh well, I guess they save the heat for the dining patrons, I thought. When it came time to take our seats in the Hibachi area, I soon realized that they must just keep the heat down to save money, hoping the flames produced from the cooking are enough to warm the customers. It was at this point, in the dim-lit cold hibachi area, that I started noticing the decor. It wasn't very exciting to say the least, the darkness probably serving to hide the faded, probably dated color scheme of the restaurant. The fish tanks were cool, anyways. So the waitress took our orders with little wait, which was nice, we ordered the "Dinner for Two," which comes with a little of everything I guess: soup, salad, chicken, shrimp, filet mignon, vegetables, etc. First came the Soup. Ugh. Some kind of broth (chicken?) with a thinly sliced mushroom and a fried onion looking thing. I wonder if they were calling this Miso? My jacket is still on, but at least the soup is warm. Next, the salad. Double Ugh. Iceberg lettuce leaves with a two thinly sliced carrots, topped with that secret salad dressing. I ate it, and it wasn't bad, because the dressing was good, but come on Fujiyama, try a little bit harder. At this point I'm anticipating dinner, a little disappointed thus far but not entirely so. The chef comes up and starts throwing his knives in the air and all that stuff, it's late and I'm sure he's had a long day, so he drops his stuff. The table doesn't seem to mind, neither do I, really. He also did the volcano thing for a kid at the table, and that was about it. Started off with the shrimp: a little tough, not bad though. Next, the chicken: it was alright. Then the fried vegetables: I liked these. And finally the filet mignon, medium: it was edible. My problem with this place, is that they don't even seem to try anymore. They must have this notion that people will come no matter what, for birthday songs, for the thrill & fun of having someone throw knives in front of their faces, for the age old onion volcano trick. They must also realize that people will overlook under-heated environments, empty soups, bare salads, and mediocre cooking simply to be dining in a "Japanese steakhouse." It really disgusts me. At least it was only $30 with the gift card.. but I won't be returning anytime soon

I purchased a Groupon and took three friends who were in town from Ft. Myers. Upon arrival, I noticed the exterior was that of a traditional mid 80's Japanese Steakhouse (which was fine). We made our way inside and enjoyed some outstanding cocktails at the bar. The bar is separated from the dining area so nobody could see us not acting our age while pounding a few shots. Once seated in the dining area, service was swift and friendly. I personally enjoyed the chef. He was funny and worked the table making jokes & commenting on my friend's amazing tans. The soup and salad were standard Japanese Steakhouse staples. The main portion was a feast. I did notice some earlier Yelp reports that complained of high prices so I was a bit concerned. However, the prices were average but the amount of food was intense. Fujiyama does not cheat you on portions. All in all, it was a great evening. Traditional decor, cold adult beverages, great service and fabulous food. Two thumbs up!

I have never been to a hibachi steakhouse prior to Fujiyama, but after eating there, it makes me hesitant to every try any others. Arriving there, I was promptly seated and taken to a communal seating arrangement. It was something I was unused to, but I understood that, with a large grill being in the middle of it, it was a technical aspect of it. The waiting staff and chefs were efficient and friendly enough, but I wasn't particularly won over from the seating arrangement and the very outdated decor, so I was relying on the food to impress me. Unfortunately, my meal of Dinner for Two was a disappointment. Given the prices of the entrees that I saw (and the one that I chose), I naively expected a quality meal, but sadly, it was only focused on quantity. Sure, beef, chicken, lobster, and shrimp were provided, but merely half of them were satisfying (the beef and shrimp), and even then, the overabundance of salt used in them proved to be tough to palate at times. Worse, to pair with this abundance of food was the lightning fast pace that the servings were provided, with one protein after another being dished out, the next being served quicker than I could have eaten the last. Combining these factors with the uncomfortably loud atmosphere and pungent food odors, it left me feeling a little green around the gills. If it wasn't for the Groupon that was given to me, I would have left very bitter, albeit nauseous all the same.

Great Mother's Day & Birthday experience. Service was speedy, but not too much so, and attentive even though you could tell they were hopping. The food was flavorful & cooked just right. The chef seemed to enjoy entertaining us whereas at some of the chains it seems like they're going through the motions. We especially appreciated the chef's apparent generosity among the table guests. He got a good read of the table where we were a party of 6, friendly with the party of 2 sharing the table. The portions @ grateful attitude of the staff make up for the dinner pricing for the holiday. Looking forward to returning, even though it's cross-town & competitors are closer

Fujiyama is my favorite Japanese steakhouse by far. I have been to Benihana, House of Japan and here, and there's a reason why Fujiyama is the best among them: the service and food are second-to-none. I'd never been to a Japanese steakhouse until I first went to Fujiyama for lunch some years ago, and I was impressed by the staff and food... lunch nets you a soup, salad, and veggies with your entree... something other chains have yet to master the concept of. I went to House of Japan the first day I started work at Nationwide in Park Center Circle, to compare. HoJ charges for everything... fried rice, veggies, everything. Not so with Fujiyama. The staff at Fujiyama know me by name and unless I'm feeling frisky and change it up, they also now my order because it;s almost always the same: chicken with shrimp. I've had nearly everything on the menu and it's all superb! And almost always too much. Sadly, I haven't been able to eat here much since I started working, but that's the price I pay, I suppose...

I freaking love this place. It looks like what a Japanese person thinks Americans think Japan looked like in 1982. You enter onto a bridge which goes over a "stream" that trickles though a Japanese village model. It is dyed teal blue and you can throw coins in it. The bar has cocktail tables made out of fish tanks. It one of the large fish tanks in the main part of the restaurant lives a huge orange fish that will kiss you through the glass if you get close. The cocktail descriptions on the menu for the Geisha Delight and the Banzai are worth their weight in gold. How could you not love this place? Hibachi isn't rocket science, folks. It isn't supposed to be a high priced steakhouse. Let's face it, Japanese Steakhouse aren't really even authentically ethnic (you should hear my Japanese mother-in-law talk about it). I've done the circuit in Columbus and in several major cities, the food stands up to most other places I have been. The food is consistently good, the staff attentive and dressed in traditional garb. They are very considerate when dealing with diet restrictions (I had a glutten free friend on my last visit). The prices are very reasonable, the drinks heavy handed, the sake average but given in large quantities at the perfect temperature. The best part of this place is they make fun of themselves, make the experience light-hearted and entertaining. If you want to laugh all the way through an perfectly good dinner and show, this is your place. Throw a coin in the fountain for me.

First time my husband and I had ever been here and I plan on going back! We were here on a Saturday and we managed to beat the rush; the server was very polite, the cook really made it a great dinner, and the other people who were at our table were just wonderful! The food was also good but normal in my opinon, of a typical Japanese steakhouse but it was still very good. The yum-yum sauce was normal as well, alot of people rave about it but it was typical again to me. The only complaint is the Plum wine was very warm and I had to ask for ice, otherwise it was overall a good experiance.

We went to Fujiyama last night for a friends Birthday dinner. She had not made reservations but we managed to get right in with a group of six. My husband and I were discussing the fact that we probably hadn't been here in the past 18 years and the place looked exactly the same! The decor is fun but it just looks run down at this point. The hibachi tables have years worth of accumulated grease on them, the cushions on the seats in the lounge are so worn, even our servers clothing was faded and tired looking (as was she). Our chef was pleasant and did a nice job preparing our food but there was just something about all of the staff's interactions with one another that was unsettling and unprofessional. So onto the edible part of the experience. I ordered hot tea with my meal and it was simply the grossest thing ever. She grabbed an aluminum tea kettle that was on a nearby hibachi and poured me the most foul smelling cup of tea. It was like someone poured it over the floor of a subway station, put it back in the kettle and let it sit there for four or five years before serving it to me. Yuck. Luckily I wasn't charged for it. My friend ordered some kind of fruity pink cocktail and it was just straight liquor, she couldn't even drink it it was so terrible. Our actual dinner food was good. I did notice however that he didn't focus on preparing one thing at a time moving from rice to veggies to raw proteins to avoid contamination. He wiped his utensils off on a rag under the table but anyone who understand food prep knows that isn't doing a damn thing. I just hoped that everything was fresh and kept at the correct temps so that we didn't become ill and here we are the next morning and we're just fine! Oh! I almost forgot! The weirdest thing that happened during our visit was that our SERVER brought out these two Korean pancakes and cooked them on the empty hibachi behind our chef. She used the products on his cart (You don't mess with a chef's stuff while he's cooking! Especially while he's cooking for your table!) and then she left the grill a mess! There is a right way to prepare off menu food and a wrong way and that was so wrong I can't even begin to list the reasons! So WEIRD! So for us, we won't be back, there is another Japanese Steakhouse in town who owns our hearts. Unless Fuji performs a major overhaul of the building and fixes whatever underlying problem there is with their staff I'm afraid that all the coupons and Groupons in the world aren't going to save place.

Fujiyama is an adorable good time and a special event staple of my boyfriend's family. The chefs are extremely talented and entertaining, but their performance is limited to the actual time it takes them to prepare your food, so you don't feel overwhelmed by a constant spectacle right in your face. So what that Fujiyama hasn't updated their decor since probably 1992, and they have a strange assortment of alcohols that somehow all taste like slurpees, they have great food and an amazing staff of chefs and waitresses. The staff all know my boyfriend's family by name, they know their orders, and they bend over backwards to make the experience a wonderful one. My recommendations: Don't bother ordering a drink unless its something super simple like a beer or whiskey/coke Ask for Chef Mike (our personal fav) who is always practicing new tricks and is hilarious in a slightly raunchy, but awesome way Don't bothering ordering any "sides", you will have MORE than enough food Shoot the shit with the cute 80's pop punk looking waitress-she's a total sweetheart, is so on top of getting you whatever you need, and may trade style tips with you!

I am so disappointed. We usually go to House of Japan off Sancus (and I would still strongly recommend going there) but I purchased a Groupon for Fujiyama. We planned a Mothers Day dinner to go there. My fault that I did not read the fine print but its not valid on Mothers day. On top of that they do not honor their lunch prices. Im assuming because its a holiday. This is a day to honor moms and my son wanted to take me for dinner. Its sad that they take advantage of people celebrating by raising the prices and not honoring deals. I unfortunately still have my groupon to use but I will never eat here again. The House of Japan on Sancus has better service by far. Please do not waste your time on this place.

Went here a few weeks ago to use a Groupon I purchased that was about to expire. I go to a lot of Japanese steakhouses and this was one of the worst that I have been to. That isn't to say that it was bad per se, it just wasn't very good. I'm pretty easy to impress when it comes to these places. The decor is definitely from the 1970's (this is either a pro or a con - I haven't decided yet) and the place just feels a bit weird. I also got some really weird vibes from the chef and waitstaff. The food wasn't bad. However, they did mess up my friend's order and a to go order they were working on at the time. Nothing major though and the issue was corrected right away. Ingredients were okay quality. This place could earn a third star if it were a bit cheaper. The prices are pretty much in line with other Japanese steakhouses but the service doesn't quite match the prices in my opinion.

Food is good. The salad dressing is so good a lot of people get a bottle of it to go (like $5). They seem to have a hard time cooking a medium rare steak. Almost always it is cooked medium. Ive also had a couple experience there where the fried rice was crunchy, I think from the caramelation of the other foods it is cook with. I talked to the owner about it before and had the same issue after. Id give this place 4 stars if they would fix the rice and 5 if they closed it down and did a total remodel of their 60s decor. 69 the fish bowel coffee tables in the bar area if you are not going to keep them clean. All and all, the food is ok, the decor is old, the salad is really good, and the staff is friendly. The only reason I keep going there is because my kids love it (but they always order steam rice).

I've been eating at Fujiyama for over 20 years, and I still love it. It is, by far, the best Japanese Steakhouse in Columbus. The grills are well seasoned, and that makes the taste so much better than any of the other places.

Teppanyaki flat top circular grill. Cook at your table, or rather your table surrounds the grill. Shogun lunch is great value! Attentive waitstaff. Somebody PLEASE break their Kenny G CD... How many times can their chefs listen to Songbird?! It's on every time we visit!
