I think they are attempting to take off on Carolina barb-b-que but not there yet. I had pulled pork and husband had full rack of baby backs. Pork was blend, definitely needed sauce and the ribs were dry (not sure how long they were sitting there). Nice option they had was crock pots with the b-b-que sauce heated. I really don't think hush puppies are a side. Two or so should be included with the meal. I wanted hush puppies but not 8 of them! Place was a little disappointing based on the reviews I read.

Consistently great BBQ. The hush puppies are fantastic. The beef brisket 90% of the time is purely smoked divinity. They carry Texas Pete hot sauce and have fast great service at reasonable prices. I wish CT where I live now had great BBQ like City BBQ!

What I liked: It's clean, there is a huge tub filled with ice and all sorts of bottled beverages that included Bud Lite. There are a ton of sauces on the table and a slew of things at a counter like pickles, onions, and jalapenos. Everyone was really friendly. The meat was juicy and tender. I liked Sweet City BBQ, Brush Fire BBQ and the vinegar sauce. Mac n cheese is so cheesy, baked beans sweet bbq delish, Hush Puppies were the best ever mmmmm, but not enough, lol. They need to serve the Hush Puppies up as an app basket I would just eat those doused in vinegar. What Surprised me: There is no server???? I truly expected to walk in and be sat and served, lol, but it was alright. It is probably for the best not to have a server in a place like this people might be too embarrassed to eat there since it's a messy affair. What could be improved: The knowledge and helpfulness of the cashier, sorry, but he was very unhelpful, and seemed clueless as to how to answer any of our questions about ordering, sizes, sharing, what was good, how was the corn pudding??????etc. Nothing we asked him got a response beyond " um what? idk? I haven't ate that so idk, etc." I can see he is young, but he needs to be able to answer basic questions, even if it is just "I haven't had that personally, but everyone orders it so it has to be good" something...geesh. Oh and I didn't taste nor did I see a smoke ring on the beef brisket, I got the most smoked flavor from the smocked sausage and Turkey which was leaning towards getting dry. All in all I am a fan as the sauces are great, there are tons of things you can throw on your tray before finding a seat and My honey loved it. Oh it cost 32.00 for The City Sampler, Brisket Sandwich Lunch Combo, a bottled Grape Pop and a bottle of bud. not too bad we decided next time to just share a sampler which is more then enough for the two of us : )

I have read the reviews from folks in Columbus. I used to live there, but have moved to other parts of the country. City BBQ is good for Columbus. But there are much better BBQ places in other cities. Dickie's BBQ from Texas, and the chains featuring NC BBQ like Willards. Get a Dickie's BBQ and you will never go to City again. No, I do not work for Dickies. I just ate too many mediocre meals at City and was thrilled to find much better BBQ in other cities.

2.5 to 3.0 Stars Only one table seated when we got there about 5 on a Thursday evening. Ordered the City Sampler (Brisket, pulled pork, sausage, turkey) with Green Beans & Corn Pudding and 1/2 slab of ribs. Total $29.87. Nice price Brisket showed no smoke rings and was dry, dry. The turkey had a smokey smell and was drier than the brisket. Pulled pork & ribs were smoked, moist and wonderful. The sausage was also tasty. Green beans appeared to be boiled with bacon, they were bland and over cooked. The Corn Pudding was like a piece of corn bread that was overly wet, very good. The cashier told us that the beef products were the most popular. I feel sorry for Ohioans...

I was very excited to go to this place for dinner and I told myself that I had to try it all. I didn't know the size of the portions nor did I ask and let me tell they are more than you can hope far. I went with the City sampler $16.99 which included beef brisket, pulled pork, 3 slices of turkey and a sausage. It also came with two sides so I went with the Mac and Cheese and potato salad and two slices of Texas Toast. I also wanted to try their ribs and thankfully it was Rib Bone Tuesday. Each bone was only $1.15 so I added three of those to my order, a cornbread and a banana pudding and a root beer to wash it all down. Grand total was $27.79 and although it was only me the food could probably feed a family of 3 or four easily. The food was great and the casual environment was an added plus. They also have their sauces warm so look for that when you go.

We had ordered in for an office lunch and City Barbeque was on the menu this particular day. It was pretty solid BBQ. I had the brisket with their original sauce, the potato salad, the green beans, the corn bread pudding, the banana wafer pudding and the peach cobbler. I swear I'm not a total fatty so I only had a little of each but the brisket was killer!!! The corn bread pudding, highly highly addictive!!! And the potato salad was on point too. The whole shebang was the jam and they even sent along FRESHLY made whipped cream for the cobbler. I'd highly recommend this place for your local barbeque joint and for an office lunch I was totally impressed with the food!

My daughter ordered for her wedding and the food was delicious! The set up for the order was fast and friendly and they really worked with her by being so flexible. Absolutely everyone had seconds and there was still some left. I loved the pulled pork, but the pulled chicken was fabulous too! I highly recommend!

City Barbecue is delicious. The sauces and sides are all top notch, almost gourmet quality. I had the chicken sandwich, which was marinated in some kind of yummy sauce. The sides - baked beans and potato salad - was yum yums. Cool interior, too, and great service. The guy at the counter gave me a free soda as it was my first time. Good stuff at a fair price. This barbecue, I dare say, is better than what you can get in most places in Texas (excluding Salt Lick BBQ, of course).

BBQ is the type of food that people act like you need certain credentials to review. Well, I'm not sure whether I'm a BBQ expert or not, but I know I like City Barbeque. As far as I know, they smoke their meats in-house and the result is so tender and juicy that I just can't imagine a better way. I also like that I get to add my own sauce. I go for a small plop of the spicy mustard, and I don't feel like my meat is drowning in sugar. Kudos, I love the control and the lack of mystery to the actual meat texture. I almost never eat in at this location-- it's our go-to spot for picking up a meal for the entire family and eating it on the patio or inside after a long day of yard work (I usually volunteer to go get the grub, rather than work). So, I'm always getting the bulk "family style" meal with tons of sides. Speaking of sides. I love these. Corn pudding is so freaking good. With the family-size orders, they kill you a little on the buns. The buns are a bit overpriced. That's really my only gripe as far as grab-and-go. Sure, I prefer Ray Ray's given the choice, but I won't EVER turn down some City Barbeque.

Love the food here and the service is terrific. I will be back to this location even though it's not the closest one to my house because of the excellent customer service.

Can't imagine a better food option than BBQ on the 4th of July. By some miracle, City BBQ was open on the 4th. Enjoyed the pulled pork and the brisket, and a side of mac & cheese. Both meats were tender, and the smoking process was obvious in the appearance and taste of the meat. The mac & cheese was okay, nothing special. The BBQ sauce served (on the side) with the meat was mild and smoky. Wish there was a City BBQ in Cleveland...

It is always consistent and has solid BBQ - among the best in Columbus. Having BBQ in the south it doesn't really stack up, but it does satisfy my BBQ cravings. Most of the meats are solid, but the sides are not the best. I like the brisket the best and this place caters very well. Nice for party's - easy to order and pick up and reasonable prices.

  • Natalie D.

Good BBQ, good sides. I like the cafeteria-style ordering, and the brown paper towel roll of napkins on the table is the perfect finish to the feel of the place. I usually go with a "naked" sandwich and two sides. Not sure if it works on every check in, but there is a check in deal here that I used last time. It's good enough, and with large enough portions (always extra to take home!) that it could definitely be a regular spot for me. I'll be back soon!

Favorite place in Columbus for BBQ. Not the best in the world but pretty good for north of the Mason-Dixon.

The brisket here is fantastic. I own a smoker, and smoke brisket all the time. I cannot get mine as moist as these guys do it. I've tried a lot of techniques, and people love my brisket. But this place kicks my butt. Everything else here is good too, especially the corn muffins.

Came here with my wife yesterday evening. There was a line out the door. that's when I knew, I had made a good decision. We shared the City Sampler, which is more than enough for 2 people and a large fountain drink. The city sampler came with brisket, pork, sausage, turkey, 2 sides (we chose french fries and green beans) and Texas toast. Brisket was awesome, fall apart, but with enough fat marbling to make each mouthful moist and yummy. The pork was also quite good although we ate that so fast, I don't remember much about it other than my stomach wanting more! The turkey was good, it was definitely a good thick slice and was moist as well, which was surprising, because i was expecting it to be really dry, kudos City BBQ! Fries are like the kind from Five Guys, so seems like the cut the potatoes do it all fresh on site, which makes me happy. The green beans were also awesome. We also got cheese and bacon on the side for the fries and that was fantastic since i wanted the fatty goodness while my wife refrained. overall, i'm a fan and will be back for more!

When I used to live in Columbus, City BBQ was one of my favorite stops for dinner, because both the BBQ and the sides were excellent. I haven't lived in OH for 8+ years, but I go back for a visit now and then. I was there recently for a close friend's wedding, and City BBQ catered the reception. It was AMAZING! To begin, they had a WHOLE PIG there, and they were pulling the pork and putting it into the serving trays right at the buffet table. The sauce was sooooo good. As always, excellent side dishes as well. BBQ is not the first thing I think of for a wedding, but it was a super-good idea on my buddy's part, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Can't believe I haven't reviewed City BBQ yet!! I guess I just sort of assumed that EVERYBODY already loves City, so there wasn't any need to say more. Well I'm saying it now, this place is a meat lover's paradise. Vegetarians - think of it this way. If you love Quinoa, then this place has every kind of delicious quinoa you could want and every dish is done to the highest standards of quinoa goodness. Without repeating other reviewers positive comments about the brisket and pulled pork, I will only say that the Smoked Sausage is one of the best things they serve and it' is debatably in third place in the City BBQ meat category! All of the sides are tasty - highlights include green beans, baked beans, corn pudding. Banana pudding, if you're in to that. Catering, carry-out, eat-in (in the expanded enclosed patio this summer!!) It's all good. If you haven't been to one, get there and you won't be disappointed.

In the area on business and a couple of the guys we talked to from here recommended City Barbeque. I was afraid this was going to be a Famous Dave's type mockery. I've had BBQ in Memphis, North Carolina and Arkansas and while I am no expert on BBQ, this here is some of the best I have ever had anywhere. We had a large group, about 15 of us, and we were worried there would not be enough seating to accommodate us, well there was. We were also worried that it was going to take forever to get thru the line that was to the door. Well it didn't take long for that line to move to the counter. I grabbed 2 Land Shark beers from the large tub of ice with other assorted beer and soft drinks by the casher. The menu is a large wooden painted board hanging over their heads. I ordered the North Carolina pork sandwich (half pound of meat) with vinegar and cole slaw on it. My 2 sides were mac and cheese and potato salad. By the time I was done paying for my order my 2 sides were up on a tray waiting for my sandwich which arrived 10 seconds later. FAST, and fresh and good. Oh my goodness. My sandwich was piled high with fresh tasty tangy pulled pork covered in slaw just the way I like it. The sesame seed bun managed to hold it all together, not sure how. Some pieces fell out here and there but I scooped them up. My sides were perfect. Potato salad was cold and chunky, the mac and chee was hot and creamy, neither was too salty. I devoured everything, in no particular order, finishing my meal long before anyone else in our group. We put 3 tables together so we could all sit and eat together. Everyone else had assorted offerings from ribs and beans to meat samplers and so on. Everyone was completely stuffed and satisfied. The tables had plenty of sauces and paper towels handy but all I needed were paper towels. No sauce needed here, my sandwich was on point with no extras necessary. Sandwich was 6.29, 2 sides were 2.99 and beers were 3.50 ea. Damn good prices for wonderful food. I liked the blues music playing in the background. The clientele ranged from suit and tie guys to mothers and their children in tow as well as college students getting together for a bite. It also appeared that their call ahead - take out business was jumping. This was really my kinda place. Down home simple good food. Hope to come here again next time I am in town on business.

This is my preferred location of a quasi-chain around columbus. It's not great bbq. I don't think it pretends to be, but it's actually pretty good and authentic. There is a lot to choose from and honestly I've maybe had one thing that I've said I'll never try again. It's quick, it's cheap and it's a lot of food. Can definitely satisfy bbq craving. They also do a ton of catering and seriously could they be any better at customer service? Great concept and great brand.

I came here last night and they gave us Texas toast and peach cobbler on the house with our order. I have no idea why but best dinner ever! The peach cobbler is another item I have to add to my OMG SO GOOD list. Delicious, warm gooeyness.

Awesome lemonade! The meat is always fantastic and the selection of sauces (Original, Sweet City, Brush Fire, Mustard and Carolina) is sure to please! Our 5 year old loves the Mac & Cheese kids plate! The sandwiches are shareable at 1/2 pound each. A plethora of side dishes and deserts rounds out the perfect meal or carry out order perfect for a party.

Good BBq. Good sides and good sauces. Loved the mustard sauce. Kids liked the sweet sauce. Tried the chipotle pulled pork-rib plate. Tasted good, but too much like a sloppy joe for me. Paid for the 1/2 pound and the meat portion was the same as kids sandwich... So not sure what the 1/4 for $2 less would have looked like. Tried the kids sandwich (pork) and it was very good. Next time I will try the brisket.

We enjoy City BBQ when in the mood for a nice, hearty meat-packed meal. There are plenty of different meats to choose from, which is especially helpful when they run out of some - it's easy to find a new one to try. We especially enjoy the pulled pork and the smoked turkey. The Brushfire sauce has a nice heat to it without being too spicy, but the original is quite tasty too. There is a wide variety of sides, including several seasonal ones that rotate through. The 1/2 lb sandwich is usually enough for me, but my husband likes to go with the platter, and is a fan of the baked beans, macaroni and cheese, french fries, and green beans. Nice large menu and a fun place to eat. Not a great place to meet up with your vegetarian friends, though, as even many of the sides contain meat. If you are a meat-eating gluten free person, there is a lot of selection in the meats (which can be ordered "naked," without bun or bread) and sides, and most of the sauces are gluten free too. Good stuff!

Seriously some of the best bbq I've had around these parts. Went here with 3 other people and every single person left a happy camper. I got the brisket and a friend of mine got the pork and we shared so we could try the different meats. Both were reallly good. The brisket was tasty IMO, albeit a little drier and not as moist as the pork, but this is to be expected. The cornbread was really delicious as well, but the fact that we got a batch fresh from the oven may have helped :) I will admit, I had driven past this place tons a hundred times and never thought twice about it. Lesson learned to never judge a restaurant based solely on the building. I will say you will probably get a little messy eating in, lots of sticky barbecue sauces everywhere and really not a "nice sit down" place, rather some tables solely for sitting and eating. You get your own silverware (if desired) and the sandwiches and sides aren't even given to you on plates. They throw them all on wax paper and then throw those on a serving platter. You don't even sit down and have a waiter some to you, rather you walk up and order, pay, get your food, and then find a table. There are 3 pots of barbecue sauces at the condiment table (a sweet bbq sauce, the traditional, and the warmer brushfire sauce). If you like spicy food, go for the brushfire. It's still not even uncomfortably hot or anything, it just tastes better. I will definitely go back if I'm craving some hard core bbq, and would get the brisket or pulled pork again. Maybe even try the chicken next time (they sold out of all chicken while we were eating there, so it must be good!)

This is my BBQ to go place when I'm in town....they have fantastic brisket and very good pulled pork....they have regular BBQ sauces as well as warmed up sauces which are by the way great. Enjoy your time there...it is fun.

Went here last night with the fiance and man what a good bbq joint, especially for something in Cbus, where most ppl probably don't expect good BBQ. I got the small sandwich sampler (brisket, pork, sausage) and 2 sides, my fiance got the full sized pulled pork sandwich, big portions and good flavor in the meat. On the table they have plenty of options for sauce, from the vinegar based to mustard based and everything in between. We will be heading back soon.

I can't believe that I hadn't gone to City Barbeque before the other day! I'm not really big on BBQ, but my dad is a huge fan of this place and he always brings it up when he's in town, so I finally caved on his last visit and went. I was actually expecting sit-down waiter service, so I was surprised that it's actually more like fast food and you order when you walk in and get your food before sitting. Either way, this food is GOOD. I got the pulled chicken sandwich, mac & cheese and hush puppies. It was way too much to eat, so I ended up taking some of it home. They have their own barbeque sauces that you can get warm up by the drinks or cold at your table. Very tasty. Now I can say that I'm a fan, too!

I am out of love with City BBQ. Their food is still fine . . . but I'm spoiled now on Ray Ray's. City BBQ's meat just doesn't compare. Plus, they're kind of far away.

What else is there to say about City? Maybe it's not the best in the world, but it's definitely the best in Columbus. I've been going there since the first one opened. At the time, there wasn't much barbecue in town, and what there was wasn't anywhere close by (and often didn't last long.) City was about the meat, and they did it well and still do. All the sides are good, too. Service is friendly, the sauces are good (but you don't need them,) the atmosphere is nice but very casual. I particularly like the ribs, pulled pork, greens, and corn pudding. I'm not usually a fan of barbecue chicken, but the way they do it here is outstanding. Oh, and the sweet tea. Used to be the only place in town to get it; still the best. Other places have come and gone, but City has stayed and expanded, and does it better than anyplace else. (Smackies was close, but it was spotty and is now gone except for a trailer- which is very good.)

This was my first time getting BBQ in Columbus. Crazy huh? BBQ is something I eat rarely. RARELY. I enjoyed this place. I went with the Beef Brisket sandwich and a side of hush puppies. The boyfriend got some sort of meat trio with a side of Mac and Cheese. I really liked the sandwich after applying some of their classic BBQ sauce. The hush puppies and mac and cheese were delicious. I give it 4/5 stars because I have had better. I've tried the amazingness that is Arthur Bryant's in Kansas City and no BBQ can compare to that.

After having eaten some great barbeque in Chicago, Southern Illinois, Detroit, and other places outside of Memphis/Texas/KC, I'll never say that only (insert city name) knows how to do barbeque. City Barbeque is a chain. They try a little too hard with their woodland interior, but so what? Barbeque could be served in a closed-down McDonald's for all I care. We placed our order at the first counter: ribs, pulled pork, beans, corn, bread, and iced teas. Our order was prepared and handed to us at the next counter. Only took about 90 seconds. Nice. But would it be fresh? Yep. Pretty good ribs. Nice and tender, slow smoked to the point where they almost fell off the bone, but still had a little bit of tug left in them. The pulled pork was very good too. We sampled all the sauces, but decided that the original sauce was the best. For a place that you have to walk up to the counter, fast food style, they were a bit pricey. I wouldn't mind a server in a place like that. But it is bbq. Pretty good bbq.

  • Ethan B.

Everything on the menu is really good, but I'm a sucker for their brisket, pulled pork and green beans. This stuff is seriously good. Nothing beats their original sauce. Guy Fieri could put it on one of his flip-flops and he'd whorf it down in three seconds and proclaim it to be the best thing he's ever had. Not only that, you'd believe him, too. Dine-in and carryout services are available, and you can order in bulk if you like for carryout. They also sell their sauces so you can have your favorites at home. It's almost as good as homemade. Almost. But my Texan grandmother loved it, so if it gets a Texan's stamp of approval, then it has to be good. Which it is.

I live near this location and can smell the meat smoking all night! If you're looking for a somewhat healthy option, the smoked chicken is tender, juicy, and delicious. Seasonal sides (usually made from local produce) like cucumbers and onions and coleslaw are the reason I keep coming back. And live music in the dining area always convinces me to stay awhile when I planned on carrying out. Super friendly and outgoing employees make you feel like you're attending a family picnic.

City Barbeque is the default Columbus BBQ chain, and is immensely popular. I myself am not as rabid about this place as my fellow Columbus denizens, but it's still pretty good BBQ. I really enjoy their pulled meats, and the ambiance is pure BBQ. Is it the best BBQ in town? Not in my opinion. Is it the worst? heck NO- it's good stuff. You won't be disappointed, but don't expect BBQ heaven (Go SOUTH, young man...) My only negative critique would be the ribs, which are usually too dry for my taste, not as tender and fall-off-the-bone as I prefer.

I'll keep this review simple. FACT: This place has delicious brisket. If you like brisket, then stop reading here and go. If you're still reading, why don't you like brisket? Go anyways. You like brisket.

  • Patrick C.

The guys who run city bbq are clearly very smart. They have managed to take a mediocre product (except for their ribs which are definitely sub par) and sell enough of it to make City BBQ a house hold name in Columbus. I have a lot of respect for that level of business acumen. The food is fine. The pulled pork is what you would expect, nothing wrong with it but not too exciting. The brisket can be very good and usually is. All of the sides are pretty decent. My problem is with the ribs. They are always different, sometimes too tough, sometimes dried out, on more than one occasion more like jerky than ribs. I've eaten there a dozen or more times and i'm a sucker for ribs so I almost always get some and I'm always angry at myself afterword for waisting my money. With that said, the prices are reasonable, the stores are clean, its very family friendly, and the people are nice. Not to mention they are owned an operated by locals. Thats enough for me to go back--but I never go there because I want good bbq. When I go its because we are near one and the kids are hungry and we all love BBQ--even if its just so so. I'd love to give them more than three stars because I admire the company--I just wish they paid more attention to their craft.

Love this place, being from NC I have high expectations, and City Barbeque doesn't disappoint. The barbeque is the best, love the sweet sauce. I'd have to say my only gripe is that the macaroni can be a bit bland- but with all the flavor in your sandwich this isn't necessarily a bad thing! Would definitely recommend this place to anyone with a big appetite in need of a cozy atmosphere. (To-Go orders are exceptionally fast!)

Brisket. BBQ. Food. Good. I feel like a caveman eating here so I figure I might as well try and describe it as so. Ladies, there's really no pretty way around it - this is get your hands dirty kind of food! The menu is filled with meaty, greasy, hearty goodness that dances on my tongue and makes me so very happy and satisfied. My favorite is the brisket. I'm no brisket expert. Really, I've only had it a few times (two of them being here) but I find myself having cravings whenever I'm lookin for a heavy, filling meal. The fast food concept sort of puts me off as far as how I'd prefer to enjoy my BBQ dining "experience" - but hell, they could serve this stuff out of buckets and I'd be happy. It's just too good!

Their BBQ is so good! Not as good as Eastern Carolina, however, close enough to keep me coming back; I like my BBQ without all the sauce. They have it! Go to this place it is GREAT!!!!

So good. Great meat (love the pulled pork), great sauces, great sides, really bad "flow". The line will frequently be out the door, and in October-March in Ohio, that's some cold stuff! Being from the south I've had my share of BBQ, and City BBQ UA is definitely among the best I've had. I'm not a sweet sauce guy, so mixing the spicy sauce and the original sauce makes the perfect sauce! (They also have a sweet sauce and mustard sauce, too if you're into that - not my style) Totally worth a visit. You get tons of food for the money and the employees are very nice. I've been to this location (Upper Arlington) and the Centerville location, and this is the better of the two. Has that definite original feel (which makes sense, it is the original). Try it.

Makes me sad to be an Ohio native when I see all these 5 star reviews. Pretty obvious Ohio is not BBQ country. Had my third and final meal here with a coworker the other day. I ordered a beef brisket sandwich, fries, and slaw. First the brisket. They didn't bother to trim the fat off of it, and it was almost totally devoid of a pink smoke ring, and it didn't have a crispy outer crust on it at all. It was much more like a fatty pot roast sandwich than a BBQ beef brisket sandwich, no smoke flavor at all, 2/5. The cole slaw was sweet and vinegary, and yes that's as gross as it sounds, 1/5. The fries weren't crispy, and they looked weird, but tasted average, 3/5. I spent just under $10 for this meal, and my sandwich looked like it came on a dinner roll, roughly 40% as big as what you would receive from Ray Ray's Hog Pit (which utterly owns this place) for the same price. The only thing I can say positive is they got some heated crockpots for their more popular sauces, so big ups for that. Save your pennies for the weekends kids and go to Ray Ray's instead.

We always order a full slab of ribs with 2 sides. It's made slow cook, with good taste and not too salty. Never tried ordering anything else. I've been to Cincy and Cleveland, but this is the best place (especially at this location) for ribs i found in Ohio. They also have 6 selections of sauces, also available in heated condition. I always go with firely mixed with normal. I suggested this place to many friends and they love it. Two of friends even bring thier parents to this place. Better place than this, you gotta go way way ....way down south.

So here's the deal: The food is amazing. It may also be the unhealthiest food I've ever seen. Definitely do NOT go here if you are on a diet. Otherwise, it is definitely worth a visit.

Why 5? Because their cornbread pudding is AWESOME! I took it back with me to California as leftovers because it's so good. And talk about Midwest hospitality-- we showed up 5 minutes after it closed, and asked if we could just order a side of the cornbread pudding to go. The woman dished us up a big serving and said we could have it for free. I'm coming back here next time I'm in town!

People from the south might argue that they have better BBQ where they are from, but this is no doubt the best BBQ in Columbus. I have been to several weddings where they used City BBQ as catering, and i was so thankful to have good food to eat instead of that sick generic wedding food. They are also great to buy for food for families on holidays!

Excellent BBQ, stopped here while traveling to Columbus. Typical dining area for a bbq restaurant with a great feel. Had both brisket and ribs, both were very good. French fries were also great, hand cut and fresh. BBQ sauces were decent, hot was hot and orignal was tasty. Quick service, will probably try again next time in Columbus.

I can't believe I never reviewed this place. This was the orignal CB. The first in town... I've been here dozens of times for everything they make: pulled pork, brisket, ribs, all of it. And it's all fantastic.

I've been hesitant to write a review of City Barbeque, because it's useless. Everyone already knows City Barbeque is the best barbecue in Columbus, period. City Barbeque is my favorite casual restaurant. I've never met anyone whose opinion I trust who doesn't love it, including at least one person who doesn't eat pork or beef. When I go to City Barbeque, I get the pulled pork "naked," i.e. just a big pile of pork, and load it up with "brush fire" BBQ sauce and about a pound of the delicious pickles offered in serve-yourself fashion. It certainly doesn't "need" that stuff though, as it's amazingly succulent and delicious plain. I usually add on a side of fries (always hot and crisp and lots of 'em), though I've tried many of the other sides (hush puppies, baked beans, mac-n-cheese, Carolina slaw) and they're all top-notch. I'm usually too full for dessert (and usually go home with enough meat for a sandwich the next day), but the banana pudding is probably the best pudding I've ever eaten. Finally, the sweet tea is the best in town. There's some thoughtful touches here, like full rolls of paper towels on each table; six flavors of sauce, also on each table; and even two flavors of sauce offered WARM, along with the pickles, red onions, jalepenos and lots of other fixings. I have no idea why I decided to write this review at dinnertime. Now I'm starving and I'm still at work for another hour. Nice move, me.

Son David graduated high school this past May, and we held his graduation party in our backyard last night. He was pretty flexible about what he wanted his party to be like, but had three requests: 1) Paint the mailbox....I told him "do it yourself". He did. 2) Grandma's Texas sheet cake...easy called grandma and she was delighted to do it. 3) City Barbeque brisket and pulled pork We were planning for 100 people, so I decided to make the pulled pork and sides and order the brisket from City Barbeque. They only required a couple days notice, had the brisket ready right on time, and gave us tongs and gobs of sauce. It came to $13 and some cents per pound and was packaged very conveniently to serve guests. They didn't take checks, which was a big pain in the butt, because I didn't want to use a card, but overall, it was tasty, easy and not too expensive.

Food is always excellent but service can be horrible. These guys know how to do bbq. I lived in North Carolina - low country - for 3 years and have never found anyone do pork this good around here besides here. Also, the brisket is outstanding. Besides the food, the service is extremely spotty. I think they must pay bottom of the barrel wages or something. Sometimes they are friendly but I can't tell you how many times I've had really rude service or just plain dis-interested service. Maybe the managers are over-worked and underpaid. Anyways, it keeps me always thinking of other options if I don't want to deal with over-worked, under-paid attitudes; but I get there at least once every couple of months.

When I was pregnant, I was craving BBQ everyone directed us here, well I didn't get to try it until the day I had my son needless to say it didn't stay down =( my body just couldn't handle the awesome taste. Anyways we decided to try it again tonight this time being my real first time trying it. We got there and ordered I almost decided against because my daughter was being rather rambunctious and I wanted to sit down right away but we went through with it. We had told the lady to hold our order because the credit card we had decided to lock us out (stupid bank they are a very stupid bank.) so we had to call them and they wanted to dispute with us over the phone in the middle of a restaurant. Well the cashier didn't hold the order fast enough and the food came up that fast. We told them we had to run home (at least I was going to) to get our other card to pay for dinner but they told us it was on them since they didn't hold it. I was in shock because most places just woulda been like whatever your problem have some cold food when you get back. The food was very good though I love bbq and it was just great. My daughter who is a very picky eater not only ate her food but she stole half of her dads fries too! So we were impressed by not only the food but the customer service when we had issues. We will be letting our friends know about this, and we will be back once we get a new bank haha!

I am from Milwaukee, WI and was in town for the weekend visiting family who recommended City BBQ. Now, I know its not true southern BBQ but for Columbus, OH its some damn good BBQ BIG PORTIONS, we went back several times over just a few days. We had the sampler platter and the ribs and the chicken. The chicken is AMAZING, the brisket was super tender and the pulled pork was delicious. The ribs are HUGE but a little on the dry side. The side are great too. Try the hush puppies, potato salad and peach cobbler.

The BBQ is good though not likely to win any awards in my book, but that doesn't mean you're not getting some fine tasting soul food. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork, chicken, and turkey occupy the menu. This is not a place for vegetarians. The meats are cooked, slowly, with lots of smoke involved and the flavor from this love and care is out of this world. My beef brisket was a little dry, but slather on some BBQ sauce (try the spicy BBQ) and it's good to go. A slew of unhealthy sides can accompany your meal, and yes green beans can be unhealthy when cooked with bacon. Here's another reason why I loved City Barbeque. I can make a delicious fresh Arnold Palmer. For you uncultured heathens, that's a mix of lemonade and iced tea. And City Barbeque has some fantastic Sweet Tea.

I really, really like City Barbecue. It's my husband's favorite BBQ place, so we eat there a lot. They slow cook a set amount of food per day (smoked sausage, ribs, brisket, pork, and chicken), so when they're out, they're out. I am not a huge fan of the ribs because they seem to get overdone and dried out, but their brisket is amazing, and their chicken and pork are nice, too. If you haven't tried the brisket, though, you really need to, and if you're going for the first time, you need to get the brisket sandwich. Trust me. The other truly awesome thing about City BBQ is the sides. They are not one of those places with great BBQ but terrible sides. I will say that I despise baked beans (too sweet! Gross!), but my husband loves their baked beans and gets them every time, so I recommend them for people who like to eat really sweet sides. I love their green beans and their greens (although I add a bunch of vinegar to the greens as they are just a tad on the bland side to me without it). I try not to, but I also order the mac-and-cheese sometimes, because it is cheesy and delicious. It is not nutritious and it's not different from your basic mac-and-cheese, but good for what it is. I also like the cornbread and hushpuppies. I always get the green beans, though, they are extremely good. Dave gets cravings for the brisket and baked beans; I get cravings for the green beans. If you are vegetarian, don't even bother. Some meat-centered places have meat-free sides, but not city BBQ. The greens, green beans, and baked beans all have meat in them. You would be looking at a choice of mac-and-cheese, cornbread, hushpuppies, fries, or salad. They also have some choice of bottled beer and sodas, as well as fountain soda and really good tea and lemonade. It's fun to eat there once in a while, too.

The night of a ridiculous storm, we called in to check if they would be closing early. The answer? "Yes..... but we won't close without you." LOVE IT! Food was absolutely amazing. All the sauces: delicious. Value? Great. It's too bad I live hours and hours away. You've made me appreciate Ohio a little more, City BBQ.

I went in with high hopes for this place as it came highly recommended. It wasn't terrible, but they brag about their "delectable renditions of the best regional BBQ styles America has to offer" and I don't feel like it lived up to the 'Que you'll find in the deep south. I had the pulled pork sandwich and my main complaint is that the meat wasn't as flavorful as it could have been. Aside from that the meat was juicy, their Regular sauce was a little too sweet, and the lemonade was pretty good. I also got a side of corn bread that was probably the best part of the meal. Not to say that I wouldn't go back, but I'd probably try the other BBQ joints in the area before going back.

Sorry City BBQ. Everyone I know loves you, but you make me sick. I try to love you, your food is VERY good, but maybe just too rich. Every time I've tried to visit, I leave feeling like death. Your food is tasty, but not worth it.

People of the midwest: This is highly average, suburbanized Texas roadhouse style barbecue. Note the emphasis on the cashier upsale, and the superior bottled beverage selection. Had a half rack with potato salad and coleslaw as my sides. A well-rounded effort, not a shred of authenticity though. Will it ever go national?

I love barbeque...and I love it saucey. So I can't go wrong at City Barbeque with it's myriad of sauces, and the ability to load as much or as little as you want at the table. I love the sweet sauce...on chicken...brisket...pulled pork... I enjoy the cornbread, baked beans, and fries as sides. I'm not a fan of the mac and cheese...it's almost too creamy for me. I'm a fan of the crusty edges on my homemade mac and cheese...and "homemade" this ain't. The ice tea and lemonade are a great choice to wash it all down...I love mixing sweat tea and lemonade...great variation of Arnold Palmers.

Predictable barbecue, decent prices, horrible service. Both times that I patronized this location I put in a carry out order, and both times I was shorted what I payed for. My tip would be that if you put in a carry out order for more than one sandwich, triple check it before you leave, the staff is very, let's say short on attention to detail. Our order was simple enough-a kids meal and 2 adult meals. One would think that if anything was forgotten it would be a side, but no, they left out the most expensive item-the same thing they did to me last time I was there, unfortunately I didn't catch it and I lost out. Apparently this is the norm at this location, as I saw several other people with carry out orders in the same boat. Pretty sad to leave out a $10 sandwich :( I might go go back as this is the closest thing to real barbecue that we have in the burbs, just not this location- side note, the floors were greasy and weird too.

Love it. Sides are A+ (really like the corn bread pudding), the sauce selection is great and the sandwiches while seaming small fill you up about half way through. I've never regretted a trip here.

The best that Columbus has to offer in barbecue, definitely. City Barbecue, a chain concentrated mostly in Columbus and Dayton, from what I can tell, offers sort of a pan-American style in barbecue. Rather than allying stictly with Texas, Memphis, Kansas City, or Carolina, it does a bit of 'em all. But surprisingly? It does them well. When you go to this small restaurant on an isolated strip of the mall- and big-box-laden Henderson Road in suburban Upper Arlington, you only need to remember two words: brisket sandwich. Their brisket is beautifully smoked to falling-apart tenderness and heaped-- a half pound!-- onto a soft roll. Nothing exceptional-- neither buttery nor flaky; just simple-- but you don't want to deter from the delicious meat anyway. Before heading to your table, ladle yourself a container of warm sweet sauce if, like me, you dig Kansas City's style. Proceed to wolf this sandwich down voraciously. As far as sides, steer clear of the vegetables. You're not going to a barbecue joint for health and, well, City Barbecue just doesn't do collards or green beans right, cooking them to mushy greyness with fatty scraps of ham. Their french fries, however, are fantastic. Crispy, hand cut, lightly salted, and deep fried as they're ordered; always hot and fresh. Similarly delicious is their chili: smoky, bold, flavorful, and filled with huge hunks of meat. A tip: City Barbecue also sells a variety of the sauces available at all the tables. College students? Save those George Foreman Grill-brutalized chicken breasts with a nice glazing of this restaurant's delicious classic or sweet sauce.

Best BBQ that I've had in Columbus. Although the line sometime stretches out the door, it is worth the wait-time. The meat is smoked almost perfectly and the wide choice of sauces is an added plus. The only downside? I've found that their side-dishes are woefully inconsistent in terms of their prep and taste. In other words, your gluttonous order of bacon cheese fries might represent the perfect balance of crisp or tang, or be a soggy mess.

Their brisket is amazing. I'm currently doing a carb-cycling diet, and on my low carb days this is one of the few restaurants where I can come gorge on meat products without worry. The staff is always nice and friendly, and their food is always fresh and tasty.

I am a Barbeque fan. Not so much as to call myself an expert or snob, but definitely a big fan. City Barbeque has the best Brisket I have ever experienced. Flawlessly slow cooked, the meat is perfectly tender, has a pronounced smoke ring and a flavorful bark. They carve your serving off the whole brisket after you order. The sides are good, but not as stunning at the brisket. I had the fried and green beans. The beans were quite flavorful, but a bit over cooked for my tastes. The fries were good, but nothing too special. The baked beans looked good and had brisket in the beans too. Any bbq fans in the area owe themselves a pilgrimage to City Barbeque.

I was watching Diners Drive-Ins and Dives over the weekend and of course two of the episodes prominently featured barbecue. Seeing all of this beautifully barbecued "other" white meat made me hungry for some City 'Que.... I love to smell the air at this location - fresh smoked meat fills it as you drive up. In this economy sensitive time, City has started offering some specials - they now have a lunch special with a smaller sandwich and two sides for $6.99 to 7.99, depending on which meat you choose. They also offer $4.00 off samplers on Mondays - which feature 3-4 meats with sides - the portions are ample and this is a great deal if you're really hungry. On Tuesdays - it's a "Buck a Bone" - a great way to try their ribs with your favorite smoked meat. Today I was really hungry for pulled pork - and I ordered the half pound sandwich. I also ordered mac and cheese, green beans with bacon, and cukes. and onions. I loaded up on some of the free refrigerated pickles, sat down, and doused my sandwich first with the Carolina Vinegar sauce dotted with red pepper flakes. I then piled on some pickles and doused it in the mustard Barbeque sauce. Finally I topped with the bun, cut in half, and turned it upside down. The bun softens from the meat juices and the application of vinegar - it was delicious. I've had the brisket and I love it. The half chicken is the largest half chicken I've ever seen, beautifully barbecued, tender and falling off the bone. But my favorite time after time is the pulled pork - mixed with that salty darkened bark.... The sides are generally good - with some outstanding and some mediocre ones....The green beans, collards with pork, fresh cut fries, brisket beans, and the cukes with onions are fantastic. The potato salad and cole slaw are bland to me - they are perked nicely with a squirt of mustard barbecue sauce. The hush puppies are a packaged mix - dense, and the corn bread (me thinks) is not baked on he premises - in its perfect little loaf shape. They also offer a fresh fruit (for an upcharge) and a tossed salad - but who wants a salard with their 'que? I guess maybe someone from Kansas City..... The mac and cheese is pretty bland and rubbery as well - why do barbecue joints think that they have to make mac and cheese with Velveeta or American cheese? I've had better stuff from Stouffer's...even Lean Cuisine.... In reality I would give them a 4.5 - because of the mac and cheese and the bland salads - but if you want some delicious meat - GO. I will also say this - they are consistent - I have never been disappointed with a meal.....

I'm not quite sure what is so wonderful about this place. Maybe I just don't understand BBQ (but I'm pretty sure I like it). Maybe I just don't get meat (even though my family has raised produce for years). Maybe I got spoiled living in St Louis and visiting Kansas City where BBQ is king. I just don't know, but I didn't find anything wonderful about this place. I got my BBQ standard, pulled pork, but didn't get any side dishes because I wasn't really that hungry. The place was busy, really busy, and we had to wait a few minutes for a seat. We also ended up moving seats to a better table after a few minutes when one opened up. They had live music playing that night, which was nice, but it made it a bit loud which wasn't good for conversation.

A lot of BBQ snobs will try and tell you that City Barbeque isn't the real deal. They're dead wrong. While the local chain (six locations -- Upper Arlington, Reynoldsburg, Gahanna, Polaris, Westerville, Powell) doesn't stick to a particular regional style of 'Q, it does dabble in them all quite nicely. Texas gets a considerable corner of the menu with low-and-slow beef brisket and smoked sausage. Memphis/Kansas City represent with pork ribs and a tangy-sweet sauce. North Carolina style pops with pulled pork and a vinegar-based sauce. The sides are plenty authentic as well -- fresh-cut fries, coleslaw, greens, mac & cheese, corn bread and more. Sweet tea and banana pudding round out the perfect meal. For being in a city that isn't known for its BBQ, City Barbeque is a great find. Great take out as well.

If you haven't tried City BBQ before, but consider yourself a fan of the genre... then I highly suggest you check these guys out for dinner. Not sure what you'll like? Try the City Sampler. It's cheap, and there's enough food there to feed three people.... it's the same way that I and my friends have experienced City cuisine... and it's for that reason that every time we come here for lunch or dinner, it's like pulling teeth as far as deciding what to order. It's all THAT good. I've been eating here for years... the food is consistently good, and the service is great. Make sure to check out the seasonal specials... like the Brisket Chili in cold months... mmmmmm.

Now suuuuuure, it's true, I guess I've never had real "down South" barbecue. I've had the crunchy, horrible stuff we made at home that was never even remotely anything but burnt to a crisp, and I've had what's been voted "best ribs in Connecticut" for some-odd years in a row, but come on- best ribs in Connecticut? Really? And sure, I'm certain plenty of people would pooh-pooh City Barbecue, too, but I am a huge fan. Let me tell you a little story about City Barbecue: I was suffering from a mild addiction to this place after first tried it, and when I went back once, tragedy!- horrror!- they were out of ribs. I almost walked out then, but I took a desperate gamble and got the half-chicken dinner. And let. me. tell. you. That was the best chicken I've ever had and the one time they've been out of ribs since, I was more than happy to "settle" for the chicken. The stuff slides off the bone like water off a duck's ass and was as delicious a hunk of poultry as I've ever had. Their sides are good too (I really like the green beans with generous helpings of bacon), but they are definitely second fiddle. Eighteen-year-old vegetarian me wouldn't have been very happy at City Barbecue. Screw 'im. Do yourself a favor and try the spicy bbq sauce. It's not as hot as you might fear, and it's got a lot more flavor than the original. City Barbecue is one of those places that I suggest whenever someone asks my opinion on where to eat. The décor is simple, the tables are barely set, and the line can be insane- and none of it bothers me one iota. Bring on the meats.

As someone from North Carolina, I thought I would be disappointed. However, this place was a nice surprise. While it will never measure up to my North Carolina BBQ, it comes in a close second. Get the corn pudding, amazing! While there is no wait staff, they might treat you better than most restaurants I've been to.

Normally I have been extremely impressed with the taste and quality of City Barbeque's offerings. However a recent trip to one of their locations is causing me concern. I am a HUGE fan of their brisket. I ordered a three sandwich sampler on a recent trip and the brisket was virtually inedible. It was thickly sliced and totally dried out. Nothing like it usually is. A waiter brought a replacement that was even worse! The meat actually tasted as if it had been previously chewed. I mentioned this to a friend of mine who said he had the same experience at another location. They have to fix this! The training has to be carefully handed down and quality control is a must or this place will shut down quickly. It will be an avalanche. You get one bad meal and you talk to others about it. You get another and you will talk some more and go there much less. One more and you surrender. I hope they get it straightened out.

City Barbeque is a wonderful, fun and relaxed BBQ joint. I was initially impressed when I walked in with the awesome barbeque aroma filling the air. We went in a large group after a Agora, but despite our group size we still got our food quickly and a table to fit us all. A note to mention, City barbeque only does so many ribs a day. Why? Because they take a long time! So, sometimes you can get them, but if they're sold out you might be able to get them or wait 30 minutes or so. The BBQ sauce is on the tables, so you can put however little or much you want on your meat. The spicy is the best! City Barbeque is the place to go if you want great food without having to cook it for hours and hours yourself. Actually, I think it tastes much better than if I even attempted to make it!

We moved here from Charlotte, NC in January. I thought I'd never love BBQ again, but have fallen for City Barbeque. It's truly excellent. I think the pulled pork is their weakest link. The pulled pork in the South, especially the Eastern Carolina style (vinegar based sauce, no tomatoes) is truly better down there. That said, City Barbeque has really exceptional brisket and ribs. My spouse also raves about the roasted chicken. One thing that I think sets City Barbecue apart are their sides. I can't get enough of the greens, the green beans and the baked beans. The greens and green beans are both spicy, so watch out, but they're great.

This place is great BBQ. And not just midwest/Ohio BBQ, it is pretty good overall. I lived in Texas, I've traveled to St Louis, NC and Memphis multiple times and "the City" always provides good eats. I'm a pork fan and theirs is great but my wife loves brisket and she constantly craves their food. Ribs are hit and miss. Sometimes they are fall off the bone amazing and sometimes they are way too fatty. Banana pudding is a great desert and their fries are a all-time favorite of mine. Sweet tea along with your typical BBQ sides are present and mostly wonderful.

This place was yummy! I'd give the BBQ 5 stars and the sides 4 stars. We tried pulled pork and beef brisket and both were phenomenal! They have 6 different BBQ sauces on the tables & 3 different heated sauces in warmers at a sauce bar. My favorite was the mustard sauce & sweet sauce. Fries, green beans & baked beans were all tasty. Mac & cheese was just okay. Friendly staff & decent prices!

During our trip to dublin it was getting late and we needed to eat. So we order some Q. Being from the south I have tried a lot of bbq in my travels and this is some of the best I have had. Tried the pulled pork and the beef brisket. The brisket was some of the best I have ever had. Nice bark and very moist and tender and the sauce was outstanding. Also the sides were yummy specifically the mac n cheese. When im back in Ohio I will get this again.

Built in an old donut shop and expanded, City BBQ serves the best brisket I have tried in Columbus. I really like the brisket sandwich with a side of the hot BBQ sauce. The meat is usually tender and moist, without a lot of fat on it. The pulled pork, ribs, sausage and chicken are just OK. I was not a big fan of the chicken salad. The sides are not so good. The potato salad is bland, the hush puppies and corn muffins are often very dry, and the fries limp and greasy. I have also tried the baked beans, green beans (mushy), and corn pudding which are all just OK.

Loved it when I lived here, every visit home means a stop at City BBQ. Slow cooked from 5am every day, the flavor is all inside the juicy brisket, pulled pork, ribs, chicken... but they have their sauce down pat too. But it's that spice rub that roasts the succulent flavor deep down, I haven't tasted a BBQ joint that compares. Portions are most ample, I often skip the bun on sandwiches because there's no way to hold it all together. I also make sure they give me 'extra bark' from the outside. Fries are fresh cut (they don't do so well to-go), slaw and hush pups are consistantly delicious. Casual, clean atmosphere. My favorite BBQ in all the USA!

This is some of the best Barbeque I have ever had. I travel a lot for work and when I find out I am going to the Columbus area I am happy because I know I will be eating at City Barbeque. All I can say is that I love this place. You will be happy you went

i have had better BBQ, but for a Yankee state its not bad. I would say the pulled pork is the way to go. I like Barley's brisket better. In all honestly I really cant complain because its probably as good as BBQ as you are going to get on a widely available basis in Ohio. honest truth.

Still the worst bbq in the world, you could probably barbeque better yourself with a propane torch.

Whenever I come to the Columbus area I have to eat at City Barbecue. I think it has some of the best chicken you will find anywhere. Theirs are Gerber Amish raised birds. That means two things. The chicken portions are big and juicy. Add to that City Barbecue's method of cooking them and their excellent sides and you have a fine meal. My fave sides are the corn pudding and baked beans. This is a small chain that does it right. I enthusiastically give a 5 to this place. I only get here once a year and look forward to it because of their food. I highly recommend!!!

City Barbeque provides well-cooked BBQ with the standard assortment of meat options (ribs, brisket, chicken, sausage). The brisket and ribs are flavorful without sauce. They offer cole slaw without the creamy sauce, which makes for a much better companion to the fat and heft of the meat. Their banana pudding is as it should be, not only in flavor and texture, but also just being there on the menu despite nearing cliche status as a dessert offering at a BBQ joint. Here's the telling moment for me: I did not realize this was a chain until I saw a sign on the interstate 200 miles away. In retrospect, it does have some chain-ish aspects, but I thought I was eating at a local joint. That in itself is a major achievement.

This place has the best pulled pork I've ever eaten, I've had BBQ across the US and this place is up there with any in texas or st.louis. On top of great food the service was fantastic! And if that isn't enough to pull you in yet, they serve cold beer to go with that delicious BBQ.

Hands down, some of the best BBQ I've ever had! Tuesday's are $1.25/rib days, and I've made it a point to make a ritual of coming here on Tuesdays for some of their fantastic ribs. Keep it up, City BBQ!

Smoked chicken was delicious loved the sweet barbecue sauce. The sides were just OK. Macaroni and cheese could've used a little more cheese. Baked beans were decent. Texas toast definitely was dry could've used a lot more butter and garlic.

Great place for barbecue cravings. We has a gift card so thought we'd give it a shot...glad we did. We ordered the City Sampler so we could try a bit of everything. The brisket was very good, the pulled pork was excellent, ribs were tender and the chicken simply perfect. The sides of beans and slaw, cornbread and Texas toast topped it all off. Great experience, but way too much food. Took home enough for a second meal. We'll return to try more. Pretty much self service-you order as you come in, then grab a table. They do lots of takeout and there were many families.

It's hard not to give this place 5 stars. We eat here or get it to go on a regular basis and the food and service is always great. The bbq is spot on, the sides do change seasonally but the favorites stay on the menu during the year, their sweet tea goes so well with the smoked meats, and their desserts are mouth watering. My favorite items are the smoked turkey, corn pudding, Mac and cheese, green beans, and of course the Texas chocolate sheet cake! This is my go to spot when out of towners crave delicious bbq!

From the moment you open the door and the smell of smoked meat hits you, it's all good from there. Great staff to help but the food is why you come. Can't be disappointed. Not always easy to find Beef Brisket in the South where it's pig BBQ country so this is a treat. WOW!. And I had the mac & cheese, very creamy and you gotta try the Corn Puddin, the best, almost a dessert.

Im from the BBQ capitol of the world, Memphis Tn and am not very fond of BBQ cooked by northern folks but this place is great. Some of the best beef briscuit I have ever had as it speaks for itself the way all smoked meats should with no sauce to hide behind. The atmosphere reminds me of some of the BBQ joints back home including blues playing in the back ground. I love this place!

Well if you know me well enough than you know I love brisket. I even have my mom make it for me on special occasions. I'm sorry to my mom, I love her dearly, but City Barbeque's brisket sandwich out does hers. I came here recently to celebrate my co-worker's birthday here since it's down the road from our work. She picked this place because it's her favorite and mine as well. One thing I like about this location was that I was sitting across from a picture of a couple that had their "first date" here and I thought how lovely. City Barbeque makes people feel special on their first date.:) I remember my first date and it was no where near City Barbeque. If I could go back on my first date before I married my husband, I would have definitely came here and it doesn't have to be this specific location either! The food pleases the masses. Momma, forgive me but we have a winner here. The food is just that dam good. If you need proof, we shipped their banana pudding in a cooler to Pennsylvania.:)

After my first less than stellar experience at City Barbeque, I was contacted by the owner Jordan who was quite apologetic and concerned about my experience. In addition to simply ascertaining the issue, Jordan also offered my husband coupons so that we could give City Barbeque a second shot with some other menu items. And I must say that I'm REALLY happy that we did take that second chance because the second experience was so much better than the first one. This time around, I got the brisket, and my husband got the pulled pork. For sides, we got hush puppies, corn pudding, and fries. We both really enjoyed the offerings this time around. I especially loved the brisket. I actually think the fries, as simple as one might consider them to be, were my favorite side out of everything. And of course, my husband loved the corn pudding just as he did the first time. I will say that the sandwich was much heftier than I was expecting it to be, but that is definitely NOT a complaint haha. I do imagine that we'll be returning to this location in the future. We'll just be avoiding those items that didn't tickle our fancy the first time around.

Always delish...I prefer the beef brisket, corn casserole, and baked beans. Consistently excellent and the only place I'll eat BBQ...everywhere else I've tried is too fatty! Don't forget the sweet tea! I mix half and half but it's a must to go with the meal! Definitely a fan.

Having tried several City BBQ locations in the chain (in several states) I've learned the they tend to be consistent in dishing up quality BBQ at an affordable price. We dove into this location after an Ohio State football game and weren't the only fans with that idea, proof that this is a staple when it comes to Columbus BBQ, even though there isn't much stiff competition, unless you consider Smokey Bones. Whether choosing the pulled pork or turkey you can't go wrong here. Not only does the meat come with great taste, they aren't shy about loading your plate or sandwich. You can expect to leave full and satisfied with friends, solo or a family outing. All the meats are solid here, as are the sides, which all are homemade and compliment the meats well.

I've never dined in, but can attest to their take-out option. I placed an order, was was told that my order would be ready in 20 minutes. So I arrived at City BBQ at that time, and was able to walk straight up to a separate line, pay for my order, and then carry it out. The other line was the regular ordering line, and it was busy busy busy with the line out the door. The delicious BBQ smell did taunt me during the entire car ride home though! The food is pretty good as well. I was disappointed by the ribs though, which I have gotten twice before and both times were very dry. The brisket, however, was excellently done and had great flavor. The BBQ sauces were also good, particularly the spicy one. I sides were alright -- fries, corn bread, collard greens, macaroni and cheese, baked beans. I've also had their dessert cobbler which is fairly good. Overall, a pretty good BBQ place in Columbus!

I'm not huge into BBQ. My husband loves it. We used to have BBQ pretty frequently when we lived in Texas so I figured we had to give this place a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It was pretty packed inside but the service was great! Everyone who worked there seemed like they were in a good mood and they were friendly. It was super speedy too. We didn't have to wait more than a minute. It was a very laid back and positive atmosphere. There was even a band playing. They seemed pretty cool. I was pleased with the food too. I got pulled pork, side salad, and Mac and cheese. My favorite part was the giant side salad. It was very fresh. The chipotle ranch dressing was different and delicious. The Mac and cheese was good but nothing special. The pulled pork was also pretty good. I don't think it's the best I've ever had. I think it was because of the bun. It seemed too squishy and kind of diluted the flavor of the meat. I'll just ditch the bun next time. The BBQ sauces were decent as well. Since we had a great time we will definitely be back.

The long line here moves very quickly as the workers move at lightening speed to get the orders out. It takes away from the intimacy of the place but it's an efficient way to feed a crowd. I came here with my siblings and we sampled every protein. Their ribs and brisket were our faves and we devoured those so quickly that we had to get more! I really liked the rub that they put on the meat, it was so addicting that I didn't even need the sauces offered. The chicken was also very good, the skin was flavorful (with that addicting rub) and the meat was moist. Their pulled pork was something we could have skipped out on in my opinion. It did not have much flavor by itself and needed to be sauced up. Overall, this place was a great find and definitely a place to check out for a good meal if you're in the area. Food: 4 Value:4 Service:3 Overall: 4

City Barbeque is probably our go-to cheap and easy dinner option. And boy, is it delicious! We usually get the Deluxe City Sampler. I LOVE the chicken, whereas my boyfriend tackles the brisket and ribs. We typically get the potato salad and corn pudding sides. The potato salad is creamy yet substantial, making it the ultimate potato salad! The corn pudding tastes just like a corn casserole my grandma used to make. So amazing! We've tried tons of things here, and everything is a winner in my book. The banana pudding; yum! So delicious. The sweet tea? Perfection. The cornbread tastes a little starchy to me, but with butter and honey, it is everything I could ask for from my complimentary side. The customer service is always very friendly and helpful. The atmosphere of the place is exactly what you might expect for a BBQ joint, and it's easy to forget that you're in Columbus! City Barbeque is a gem!

Hands down the best BBQ place in Columbus. They're better than most of the supposed "champion" BBQ booths that show up to the annual downtown Jazz & Ribs fest. With that said, Columbus isn't exactly known for their BBQ, so I'm not sure if out of towners would be quite as impressed.

I should caveat this with the fact that I am not really an expert on barbecue. I am an amateur barbecue fan and I try to barbecue myself.... Buttttt.... I'm from Boston and we aren't really known for that type of thing here. The barbecue in Boston is kind of bad. So I was pleasantly surprised when I came to Ohio and discovered they have great barbecue! What I liked about City Barbecue was: 1) The ribs. Delicious. 2) The hush puppies with honey. Whoever invented hush puppies is a genius. 3) The ambiance and the staff. The setup is fun and the people are very nice.

Finding a leg of barbecued chicken in my freezer reminds me I didn't review City Barbecue after going there for the first time in years. I recently decided to give them another shot after not liking how they did pulled pork, sauces and sides many years ago. I grew up around southern bbq, and having a bunch of fat in the pulled pork is a mortal sin. So now that I've gone back, decided to mix it up a bit and get a half chicken. Nothing fancy; added cornbread and a side (which I totally forget, might have been beans, or slaw). I halved the chicken up, ate the breast and threw the leg into the freezer. The chicken was still not what I would consider 'done'... too greasy. And now I have its counterpart in the freezer, and I don't think I'm going to eat it. And that's all I can say about this City BBQ... why isn't this stuff *done*? Strange thing is, I love the City BBQ ribs I get downtown on Buck-a-Bone night at the Clippers games. But those are done correctly. 3 stars for that. I can't imagine what would merit more stars here, or a repeat visit.

I was in town for work and as always, I like to ask the locals where they like to eat or suggest I should eat at. The nurses from Orthopedic One kept recommending this place to me and so for lunch I decided to go here with my cousin. Being from Texas, it's hard to find good BBQ outside of Texas! When we first walked in the guy working the register, who also looks like the owner/manager of the restaurant gave us a warm and friendly welcome and asked for his suggestion as to what is popular here. He recommended the brisket. We told him that we were from Texas and that we love moist brisket and he told us we wouldn't be disappointed and in fact it's up there will Rudy's. We trusted him and went with the brisket with a side of gumbo and macaroni and cheese. Also we had to get sweet tea to go with our BBQ! They had 4 different types of sauces. Their original BBQ, spicy BBQ, sweet BBQ, and some kind of vinegary mustard. Personally I didn't like the mustard but the best BBQ sauce was the original but even then the sauce was just OK. When we received our order the brisket was pretty dry. It was as if we got the outside cut of the brisket where it was really dry and hard, which was a little disappointing. The gumbo was really good, maybe a little too much salt but it was tasty and the macaroni and cheese was decent, nothing special. So the manager walks over to our table and wanted to know what we thought of his BBQ and we gave him our honest opinions and told him that we expected it to be a little bit more moist. He told us he may have a resolution and left to the kitchen. Upon returning he came back with a more moist cut of the brisket which made things better but it still doesn't compare to what we've had in Texas! Its good for being BBQ in Ohio though!

City Barbeque is great. I went three years ago and sat on the outdoor patio with my friend and enjoyed the wonderful brisket, ribs, cornbread, and toast. Granted - not extremely nutritious, but once every three months won't tear you down too bad. The customer service was fine and friendly and the place wasn't very busy, which made it an even better experience. The food came out after about a 10 minute wait - and the food was devoured immediately after receipt. I recommend a visit - specifically to the Henderson Road location because it's usually empty!

LET'S BE HONEST... City Barbecue is just too darn good for Columbus. They should be somewhere in the Carolinas, on a lonely country highway, with an old man standing over a smoking 55 gallon drum cut in half and turned sideways. Quite simply, this is better barbecue than we deserve in the Midwest. Order the brisket. Ask politely for extra bark, which is the black stuff cooked on the outside of the brisket. Get the mac & cheese and the greens. Get a bunch of pickles and different barbecue sauces at the self service stand, and enjoy a delicious, decadent meal. If you want to save a few calories, get the roasted chicken breast, which is also fantastic. They will also cut it off the bone and serve it is a fantastic boneless chicken sandwich if you asked nicely. Simply the best barbecue in Columbus. Maybe in Ohio...

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about my experience here today. My son and my cousin and I went in for our first time ever. And it was pretty dang tasty. I'll start by saying I'm not a huge fan of smokehouse-type places, so it always takes some convincing on someone else's part to talk me into going. But this time I'm glad I did. Son and cousin got the pulled pork but I wanted that pulled chicken, add vinegar slaw. I also got potato salad and green beans. That was some of the best potato salad I've had in a long time and the green beans were yummy as well. Oh and they have fabulous hush puppies. My son and my cousin said the mac & cheese was delicious. Plus there are four different kinds of BBQ sauce on every table and a nice big roll of heavy duty paper towels. Because, trust me, you'll need them. The people were so nice; cheerfully and patiently explaining everything once they discovered it was our first time there. They even came to our table to make sure everything was okay. Nice atmosphere, good food and cheerful employees. I'll definitely return. Soon. Edit some time later: I never did get that voucher for the homemade dessert, LOL! (see Jordan's comment below).

Yum! Best-tasting BBQ in Columbus. I go for their brisket every time, and it never disappoints. The brisket is so tender, it melts in my mouth. I love the variety of bbq sauces they provide, and their sides are the perfect compliment to the brisket. Mac and cheese, cole slaw, corn pudding, and the list goes on. So far I haven't had anything I didn't love.

A couple locals recommended this place a few months ago. We finally got around to trying it this afternoon. We ordered the Deluxe City Sampler and a few sides. First the good: The Texas toast and macaroni and cheese were awesome. Sweet tea and cornbread were pretty good. Now the bad: Unfortunately, we didn't care a lot for the bbq. I didn't like the ribs. The meat should be tender enough to pull away from the bones with a fork, but I had a hard time cutting some of the ribs apart with a knife. The meat was too tough. The brisket was dry. The pulled pork was ok but not great. I tried 3 different sauces: original, brush fire, and sweet. The fire wasn't the least bit hot. I was hoping for something a little more. I'm not sure which one I liked best. They were all just OK. I felt the value was pretty good. We got a lot of food for a decent price and had leftovers to bring home. I probably won't recommend this place to friends. While some of the sides were pretty good, this is a BBQ joint, and it's suppose to be all about the meat. I still may come by sometime for a carry-out mac n cheese.

I've been going to this place for years. In the beginning, I found the food pretty good. Not so much anymore. The quality seems to me to have eroded in recent years. The last order of ribs I got there was dried out. The last order of brisket was more like pot roast with gobs of fat on it. The pulled pork is still OK. But a couple days ago, I finally hit the last straw. I bought a 1/2 chicken for take out, and drove straight home for lunch. It was OK - moist, if a bit bland. But I noticed it was not very warm. 24 hours later I was running to the bathroom every half hour or so, and that has continued for another 24 hours so far. I will not be coming back to this place.

Been in Columbus a month as a cancer patient at the James and dining out is one of the few pleasures. Soneone at the hospital mentioned City BBQ and we went last week to try the sampler. It had pulled pork, brisket , thigh and leg chicken and ribs. We thought the brisket was too dry but every think else was good. Had baked beans and greens and corn bread which were also good. All and all , good value we took half home with us for a meal the next day and it was a fun atmosphere.. W as fun and casual. Will return to try something else and get the peach cobbler we did not have room for!

The food: phenomenal. The atmosphere: Country eclectic. The Electricity: So-so. Went here last night for dinner. They always have the best bbq, and the portions are huge. Ordered the pulled chicken on Texas Toast instead of a bun. No problems! Got two sides (Green beans and potato salad) and a drink (water). Value was great. SO much food! As soon as we sat down, we heard what sounded like a boom, and the lights went out. Now, eating at around 7:30 at this time of year (mid-late September), it gets dark quickly. No explanation as to what happened, and no remedy. We were forced to eat our meal in a very dark, very dimly lit environment. Luckily I knew everything was tasty, so sight wasn't too necessary. That's the only reason it's not 5 stars. Power is important!

Fast food bbq joint. If you check in on yelp you get 2 free sides. I got the pulled chicken sandwich with green beans and a side salad. Pulled chicken was really good but the bun was super greasy and soggy. Green beans were bleh, soggy too. Side salad came with an interesting dressing, was pretty good. My coworker got the brisket and pulled pork and said the meat was good but the breading also sucked. Quick and cheap though.

I had a three month gig in Columbus and ate here every chance I could once I discovered it. The ribs are awesome, generous sides and the sauces round it all out. Always took takeout as the picnic style seating didn't appeal to me.

The food is good but the service is even better. So welcoming and helpful. The fresh hush puppies are a home run, and that's just a side dish. The meats are beautiful. So glad we found this place.

This was my first time and we were a little curious how BBQ would be here since we just moved from Texas and have a couple favorite places. Let's start with service, usually the most important aspect for me. I was very impressed. We were quickly greeted and Patrick was awesome! He asked if it was our first time and explained the menu in detail. Also made suggestions and let us sample some things before we ordered. He was very confident that we would be pleased with the food and that we would return. He was very patient as I was very indecisive (I love food, but I'm indecisive bc I want to try everything) . The food came out pretty quickly and when I went back to ask for something he happily got it for me without acting irritated. The food... Brisket was really good and I don't normally like brisket. It wasn't as lean as we usually get it, but the flavor was great. I ordered the pulled pork with slaw and vinegar. The meat was good, but a little dry so I just added sauce. The sides we had were all good and the kids liked everything as well. We will definitely go there again especially when we don't have a lot of time or the kids are being impatient for food. Maybe on Tuesday for the rib special! They have a reward card...just in case no one offers it. It irritates me when places have one and don't tell you about it.

I was a bit hesitant to try this place because they have multiple locations. I prefer Mom-and-Pop places for my BBQ. I was wrong. Plain and simple, I was dead wrong. I had the ribs and a city sampler platter (not all at one sitting). Ribs, pork, brisket, sausage and turkey. The sausage was a bit nondescript, but everything was really tasty. I had beans and mac-n-cheese for my sides. The Texas toast was quite good, too. It's just bread, right? Well, there was something about this bread. I'll be back on many occasions.

A great place for BBQ. It seems like many order ahead for pick up, but there's a self-service style sitting area. You order, pick up the food, and find a place to enjoy it. The beef brisket was the best in our order. It was very good. The pulled pork, macaroni and cheese, potato salad, and 3 BBQ sauces were OK. I think we'll have the turkey and the chicken next time. They looked good... We're coming back!

We have been here three times since moving from Chicago this summer. With two kids it is nice that the service is so fast and we can eat in a relaxed environment without worrying too much about our kids being perfectly behaved (although they always are because they love this place!). Last time we went to City BBQ there was a bit of a confusion on our order and they charged for the wrong sandwiches and also forgot our desserts. They did fix the problem after we discovered it, but the service just seemed very unorganized for a weekday night. The food is still delicious and our kids actually clean their plates but hoping for more consistent service to go with the consistently yummy food!
