A laid back and decent Italian bar-dive, Cementos has been around awhile in the long span of shops off Henderson and Reed. And like Spuds and other watering holes there, the space attracts old farts handling vodka sniffers and gin and tonic in the late afternoon that I visited, making vacation plans, bull s'ing staff, or draping the patio with menthol 100s or turkey blend tobacco smoke. Though at night the joint can trend to a younger clientele woo-hooing and hanging off the patio rails; they have bands sometimes in the weekend; the $5 cover is added to your bill. It's basic dive status, the beer choices are boring and drafts are too. But they do have nightly specials and great service. The food here is Italian, and pretty good. I had chicken parm, they make it with a juicy breast though it is a bit over breaded, and sauce that taste like pizza sauce; the sauce is very delicious with the texture of pizza with cheese and topings. The spaghetti here is not to my taste, not 'spicy' enough to lack a better word, but not too bad for a side. The side salad is remarkable; A very good toss of different vegetable flavorings with olives which I topped with blue cheese dressing. The rolls are standard. Happy hour offers half off appetizers. The prices are competitive and the service is good. They need to up their beer choices. Though I am sure there are a good number of people left who dig Yuengling.

We went to hear a band and have dinner.....the band was great! The pizza had very little cheese and when my husband said something to Johnny,,,the owner, he seemed put out and asked, "well what do you want me to do about it?" Then they charged us for more than we ordered. Definately will NOT be back!

What a disappointment. We recently moved to the area and I am a sucker for hole in the wall, strip mall, Italian joints. Sometimes they end up being super authentic, but either way they tend to serve up something delicious, fried, sauced and covered in cheese. The entrance alone is super confusing. There is a bar that has two entrances on one side and then a separate "dining room" with a third entrance that is adjacent to the kitchen. We sat in the dining room area at 6:30 on Sunday evening as the other sole table of patrons was getting up to leave. I got up to wash my hands before dinner and the men's room was out of order so I went into the ladies room (it was a one seater type deal) and one of the cooks barked out "that's the ladies room" so I backed out as he was chuckling to the other cook "I guess he has a vagina." So he told me there was a bathroom on the bar side where I wasn't surprised of discover it was also empty. We got lasagna and chicken parmesan, which have got to be the safest two dishes to order at any Italian place. They both came with salads, which were really just mixed greens with one pepper. When we finished our salads and put our forks in our salad bowls our waitress told us we needed to keep our forks for the meal, so we took them back out. The lasagna was a few notches below Stouffer's, if it was microwaved not quite long enough. The chicken parm was inedible. Sorry... just want to give you a second incase you thought I said "incredible" but nope, I said inedible. The breading was literally black, and then just smothered with some bad marinara and a slice of not completely melted cheese. Anyway, short version. Food and experience was horrible. Definitely not going back.

Stopped in for the first time ever because Willie Phoenix was scheduled to play. When we arrived just prior to their start time, however, the band was packing up to leave. Owner Johnny had told them not to play because the Saint Andrew Festival and one of their regular performers playing at LaScala were expected to usurp all their customers so they'd be unable to pay the band. We were shocked. It's not like the Saint Andrew festival was just scheduled this week; they could've told Willie long before he'd gotten set up. I tried to approach the owner but he literally turned and almost ran to keep from talking to me. My companion and I decided to stay to eat since we were starving. The service was horrible. They had only the woman behind the bar to attend to a full bar, a big table and a few outside patio tables. I gather this is a neighborhood kind of place as she spent a lot of time chatting with guests instead of waiting on people. While we were waiting for service, five other patrons arrived and immediately asked where Willie was as they thought he'd be playing. At some point while we were there the piped music stopped playing and I realized it had been coming from a jukebox and nobody had fed it any money. The whole experience felt like a scene out of Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares. And the food was just ok. The housemade Italian sausage and the sauce were tasty but the spaghetti with meatball and veal parmagianna were nothing special. The fact of their treatment of Willie and their constant display of disregard for their customers in every aspect guarantees that we will never go there again.

Cemento's seemed old-school to me. There are no frills added to presentation to make you believe in getting more than what's being billed. And what's being billed is moderately priced drinks and beers, above average pizza and a dark pub or bar. That's Cemento's for me. Now, I was there on a Friday night with a "LIVE" band playing and the place was packed cheek-to-cheek (below the waist). I hadn't been in a setting as chaotic and difficult to get a cocktail in a while. Because it was crowded the air inside was stifling. Go outside to the "smoker's area" and it was cool but cloudy, if you catch my drift. Pizza - it was pepperoni and cheese and it was gooey good. The crown on the rocks was a good pour. I'd like to try the place again without the crowd just to see if Cemento's is what I think it is. And that is a place for locals to get their schwerve on drinking booze and sitting around listening to a jukebox. Local hang-out with adequate food - not much in the form of ambiance.

My wife and I had a coupon from the Val-pak, so we stopped by and ordered the penne with meatballs. Service was prompt and the drinks were in our price range, but I found the marinara sauce rather sour. We are looking to go back to see if it was just a fluke in the near future.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
