We were in town for a wedding and stumbled upon this spot. I"m not one for chain restaurants but I wanted to give it a shot for bulgogi bibimbap. Needless to say, my daughter and I ate there twice while my wife was out and a about. In a for profit fashion, this chain charges for banchan, no freebies! Dinner - Our first experience was dinner and we were seated quickly. Heck, we were served and out there door even faster, all in about 35 minutes. I order bulgogi bibimbap, pot stickers to share and a side of rice for my daughter. The pot stickers are what you expect from factory made versus hand made, but consistent and a hit, the non spice soy sauce went well. The bibimbap was ok, slightly below average. I say that because one of the characteristics of the dish is the crispness of the rice as it is served in the hot granite bowl, which was lacking. It was more of a warmed up bowl, with rice added and the toppings. At this point, I figured, if we get another chance, I'll give them a crack at their wings. Pre-Dinner - So next day, stir crazy from hanging at the hotel we were antsy to get out so we stopped by again. We split pot stickers, whatever the 3 year-old will eat, it's ordered. I also opted for the 5 drumsticks. The price may scare you away, but these are little drummies that you get at other wing only establishments, these are the big drum sticks you're accustomed to from fried chicken establishments. The breading has a nice crunch and the chicken is nice and moist. The irony of this, i ended up getting 7 wings with this helping (lucky me the cook either couldn't count or was having a bad day with management) and a side of pickled radish. Overall, i'd go back to eat there but for wings only. The service is what you would expect from a chain. Nothing that says, "Wow, they really want me to come back!" But there are some folks that have a personality and are engaging. And truthfully, it's one of the better wings I have had in a long time.

This is a hidden joint off of 161 and sawmill. Came here to try out what the hype was about. The place wasn't that busy and it's a pretty big place. We ordered the 15 piece combo with the drumsticks and wings. This was split between 3 of us and was a good amount because we had extras. Their wings are huge, so don't expect bdub style small wings! We tried the garlic soy flavor...it was kinda sweet to my liking. I've had real Bon chon in NYC so these wings are just ok. For Columbus it is just ok....we also ordered the salmon avocado appetizer and calamari. The salmon avocado was good though! 2 appetizers and about 15 wings = $50. Not bad but I've had better bon chon elsewhere.

FINALLY! Bonchon came to Columbus and I quenched my thirst for some legit Korean fried chicken! I tried both the garlic soy and the spicy, both were pure perfection. The skin is crispy, but not not oozing with oil like KFC or Church's; and the sauce is applied evenly across the chicken unlike globs like Buffalo Wild Wings or Roosters. Besides the chicken wings, I also had bibimbap and takoyaki, which were both delicious but not much better than other places in the Columbus area. One thing that disappointed me was that this location doesn't seem to have as many menu items to choose from as other Bonchon locations such as Soondubu jigae and kimchi jigae, and also there's no Korean BBQ options. That was my only disappointment. I hope that as this location's business begin to boom, their menu will expand as well! This may not be as big of a deal though since Bonchon is best known for their fried chicken.

I vividly remember Korea, and the best part was the food. And, of course, I mean that as a compliment. One of the last meals I ate while there was bull dak, a dish filled with plump rice dumplings and a fiery red sauce. It was THE. SLAM. Fast forward about 6 years, and I'm at Bonchon Columbus ordering bull dak for the first time since leaving Seoul... and once again, it was the slam. But here's the deal: Bonchon is *not* famous for their bull dak. They're famous for their crispy, crunchy, delicious KFC (Korean fried chicken). Sadly, I can't eat it. #damnwheat If you can tolerate wheat and gluten A-okay, then drop everything and run to Bonchon this minute for the chicken. Dare I say -- leave the line at HCT and head to Dublin instead. I was with two fried chicken connoisseurs, and they were raving hard. According to the Yelp reviews, the service is hit-or-miss, but it was definitely a big hit when I visited. When I declared my aversion to wheat, our server quickly got a manager to come over and help me. Everyone was so incredibly kind and thoughtful to help me navigate around my arch nemesis. The interior is cool and kitschy, but I definitely feel like they're trying to appease a Midwestern crowd. Korea is loud, flashy, bright, and most importantly -- FUN. I feel like the Cbus Bonchon is missing the fun. Everything was toned down and a bit quiet and boring. Don't try to tone down your heritage. Embrace it! Play some loud K-Pop. Don't be afraid to let your personalities shine. Be weird. Be wonderful. Be Korean. And this is a big wish for me: make some gluten-free fried chicken. Pretty please? I swear I'll tell everyone about it, and I promise to make weekly trips for it. So in the end, I'm definitely a big fan of Bonchon, and I think there's room for me to be an even bigger fan. They're famous for the fried chicken, but don't count out the other dishes -- notably the spicy bull dak.

omfg. This chicken is the. slam. Run, do not walk, to Bonchon to get the chicken. Crispy-crunchy, spicy enough to make your mouth slightly hurt but not make you die. It seems like the service issues around opening have been somewhat ironed out; our server was completely on top of things despite seeming a tiny bit inexperienced (including asking for help when one of our parties needed wheat-free food--I always appreciate someone who knows when they need help instead of trying to bullshit through something important). Our food came out in a timely manner and everything tasted great. I did not order the kimchi cole slaw like Keith M. suggested, but I tried his and I'm definitely 100% for sure ordering it when I go back. Holy mo, it was fab. It seems like sacrilege to add mayo to kimchi but it worked. It worked real hard. Already craving this chicken.

I've eaten my fair share of KFC (Korean fried chicken) in Korea in recent memory and was excited to have an option for an actual Korean-ish (there are Bonchons in Korea!) chain in Columbus. Have been back twice, with a trip to Korea in between. The chicken lives pretty close to the (pretty high and authentic) expectations I harbor about KFC. The only complaint about the food--the place skimps on the sauce! It might be worth it to ask for a side to go with your chicken. Unfortunately, my rating is knocked down by terribly inconsistent service. The staff, while friendly, doesn't seem to know who's doing what, and takes a long time to even do that. My bill with credit card for payment sat out for about 5 minutes, with the wait staff passing by several times aloof to what needs to be done. Haven't tried anything but the chicken. There are better mom & pop Korean places around that do a better job is my guess!

What's better than fried chicken? Twice fried chicken! My wife, nonpicky 3 year old (our superpicky 6 year old was still in school) and I came for lunch and split chicken fried rice, a bibimbop bulgogi bowl and the twice fried half and half chicken strips. I don't particularly care for drumsticks or wings--the bones and tendons freak me out a little, so it's nice to have a boneless option. We also ordered some edamame as a starter. The restaurant is quite simply, but nicely decorated. The colors will please the OSU faithful as well. There are two bar areas, tables and several booths. We sat at a booth which was fine, but the seats were oddly low relative to the table. No matter, the food made up for the ergonomics... The fried rice and edamame were pretty good--we ordered these mainly for our son, but my wife and I sampled a little as well. The bibimbop was surprisingly good as well. I think this version feels a little Americanized compared to other versions I have tried... The bowl wasn't hot enough to cook the rice at the bottom like you typically see in old school Korean restaurants (like Restaurant Silla), but the mix of veggies, bulgogi and rice was spot on otherwise. Of course, the chicken was the star of the show. The double frying technique results in super crispy skin that is surprisingly not greasy. With the chicken strips its almost like eating a chicken potato chip (I'm sure there are better descriptions but it's the best I can do). I preferred the spicy version while my wife favored the slightly sweet garlic soy version. You can't go wrong with either. The lunch size servings were quite large and we have at least another meal worth of left overs--though I can see a fight brewing between my wife and me for the last two pieces of chicken. Our bill was pretty reasonable for the amount of food we received as well--about $35 plus tip. Between Bonchon and Hot Chicken Takeover some may say we have reached Peak Spicy Chicken here in Columbus. I prefer to think of our situation as the Pax Romana of Spicy Chicken. We should enjoy our embarrassment of riches while we can.

I have been counting the days until we finally got our own Bonchon! This is real KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), double fried to perfection and slathered in spicy sauce or garlic soy (I lean towards the spicy, but you can get half and half). Since I've only been to Bonchon while on vacation elsewhere, I've never ventured outside the fried chicken, so I look forward to going back and working my way through the entire menu! The chicken tasted just as good as I remember. The skin is so crispy that it breaks off in shards, and that spicy sauce makes my nose run in the most delightful way, luckily, there is beer to put that fire out. My only criticism is the music--a strange mix of rando and old adult contemporary. Why not K-pop or something consistantly upbeat?

I'm so happy this chain finally made it to cbus!! I've gotten takeout wings from their NY store previously and even though those were kinda lukewarm, I still remember them being delicious. This time, I came with my bf for dine-in and the piping hot wings were out of this world. Also, their tteokbokki is a little expensive but it sits on a bed of noodles and is totally worth getting. This restaurant is a bit out of my way but I wouldn't mind coming back all the time. P.S. I ate here around 3pm on a weekend afternoon so they weren't busy, and the food came out super fast and the service was superb.

Came here for lunch yesterday and the wings were amazing! Sadly, that's the only good thing I have to say about this place.. Wings were worth 5 stars: the soy flavor was delicious, skin was crunchy, and the meat was tender. I'd stop by for carry out wings, but only for lunch. The food is pretty pricy for dinner! It's about $15 per person for dinner, which isn't a lot but for a fast food type feeling restaurant- it's kind of a rip off. The service was below average... I understand new servers need time to learn, but it seemed like the whole staff was new. I know the restaurant has been open for a few months, but our server used the excuse that she was new for every time she messed up our order. I think servers should have somewhat of an idea of what's on the menu before they start working... The feel of the restaurant was cool, it's got bright red walls and tall booths. Hopefully they can make some improvements because the wings are GREAT!

Chicken? Korean? Heck yeah, I'm in. Swung by here while I can easily, before the orange barrels take over Dublin, and I'm glad I stopped in. They've redone the place since moving in, and it's nice inside. The booth benches are a bit far from the table, but since it was just me I moved the table over. It's a casual place, but I felt a bit underdressed in my pre-work clothes (t-shirt and uniform pants.) Not that anyone noticed or commented, it's just a bit fancier than I had expected. Service was... okay. They're still starting up, and I saw some people who knew what they were doing and others who were lost, or slacking. The food was great. I started with takoyaki- basically deep fried octopus dumplings. Arrived looking perfect, and so hot I could not eat them for quite awhile. Very tasty when I could, though. Next I had a lunch fried chicken order, a combo of wings and drums with some of each sauce. The chicken was perfect: meaty, tender, moist, and flavorful inside, with crispy skin that showcased the sauces. The soy-garlic was great, and the spicy actually had a bit of a kick. I chose slaw as my side and it was very average. There is a lot of other stuff on the menu that I'd like to try. Prices were reasonable for what you get. I was done in time to make it to work. I'll get back when I can...

Love the red and black decor, the open wood frame ceiling, gorgeous red pendant lights, and cozy tall booths. Soft (K) pop in the background. Kimchi coleslaw is a fabulous intro to kimchi - creamy, slightly sweet, slightly spicy, slightly pungent. (I was a wimp and didn't ask for the real thing. Next time.) And then there's the chicken. Love that they offer a half and half option (garlic and spicy). Got the chicken strips; both flavors were fairly moist (why do people hate that word?), crispy outside without a ton of beating. Garlic was sweet with a little soy undertone. Spicy started out like the garlic but built a nice hot pepper glow (could imagine it being a bit much for the capsicum intolerant, but I found it a lovely gentle heat). Their slogan is "Addicted yet?". Don't think I am yet, but totally see how it can (and still might) happen.

So excited that Bonchon decided to open a branch here in Columbus (out of all places) - the fried chicken tasted just as good as I remembered! Food: My friend and I split a takoyaki appetizer and an order of 20 wings, half spicy and half soy garlic. Warning: 20 wings is way too many for 2 people!! lol. I forgot how big the wings are and we were both super full after the takoyaki and 4 wings each. - Wings (5/5): Bonchon's signature dish! So crispy and light yet moist on the inside. The soy garlic is just the right amount of sweet and the spicy is pretty hot so be prepared. It keeps getting spicier as you eat it too. The order comes with a side of pickled radish that cuts the wings quite nicely. - Takoyaki (3/5): Pretty average. There were big chunks of squid inside but also a lot of plain batter. The glaze/sauce on the outside was really yummy but I wish there had been more of it. Service (4/5): I was expecting terrible service based on previous reviews and was pleasantly surprised. We went on a busy Friday night at peak dinner hours and got seated with menus quickly; a waiter came by to take our orders within 5 minutes (in fact, we hadn't decided yet lol). Food came out within 15 minutes I'd say and our waiter frequently checked in to see if we needed anything. The only hiccup was when he forgot to bring us our take-out boxes after paying the bill and we had to remind someone. Overall, I had a great experience! Sounds like the service is hit-or-miss but improving. My only complaint is that their menu is kind of limited and I hope they will expand to include things like soon-dubu, kimchi-jiggae, and even sushi that they have at other locations on the East Coast. But I will definitely be back for the delicious fried chicken! :)

I will go out of my way to try comfort food, especially if that food is fried chicken. Since I'd heard so much regarding Bonchon, I decided to take the 15 minute drive to 161 and Sawmill and give it a shot. First thing I noticed is that this place is much larger than I was expecting and has a huge bar area and bar that is barely used. Seems like a lot of wasted space here. There were quite a few people seated at tables though, but the bar was empty on a Friday night. I also noticed that the chicken is a bit pricey, so I was hoping it'd be pretty good and filling. We tried the Takoyaki, little fritters stuffed with octopus, and they were okay, but the octopus was a bit too chewy. Also, they're HOT as hell temperature wise, so beware before you bite right into one. My girlfriend went with the chicken strips and I had the mix of wings and drumsticks. First of all, these were the crunchiest drums/wings I've ever eaten, and I love crunchy wings. You can definitely tell they're twice fried and really healthy for you, and for 3 drumsticks and 5 wings, I was actually really full. I didn't get a huge taste difference between the soy garlic and the hot, but I did like the flavor overall, so I'd definitely eat them again. My girlfriend's strips were pretty good too but not quite as crunchy. I'd definitely recommend the drumsticks or wings. We also had an order of the seasoned fries, and while they were a little too pricey, they were definitely delicious and easily split between two people. I can't say that I'd go out of my way all the time to get chicken here (mainly based on where I live), but I would totally make it a point to stop in if I was in the area. The service I experienced was a lot better than what people on here are claiming, so I can't say anything bad about that. The chicken here is straight up good though, so it's totally worth giving the place a shot.

Visited Bonchon on a Friday at about 1:15PM. There were maybe 10 tables occupied in the dining room, which was not too crowded. This new restaurant occupies an old Chinese restaurant near McDonald's. After being handed a menu, I noticed that the this place was pretty expensive. The cheapest chicken selection on the menu was 10 wings for $11.95. I think five thighs were $15. I ordered 10 wings with 1/2 and 1/2 of their two sauce choices, I think garlic and spicy. The wings came out after 15-20 minutes with a side of the best daikon I've ever had in my life. Wings were not giant, marinated in garlic and soy and lightly breaded with maybe cornstarch and deep-fried. They were not gigantic, but were very tasty. Place also serves bibimbap Korean bowls in the $14-$15 range. Side of edaname for $5.95 or so. Pretty expensive if you wanted to try a couple of things. Didn't have a five wing option on the menu. Overall, the food was tasty, but I'm not sure how often I may be coming back. The big drawbacks is the price of the food, the atmosphere and location, which sits in a stand alone build out with multiple restaurant failures, and the lack of any new remodeling.

Was skeptical when I drove into the parking lot after work during dinner hours and there was only one other car in the parking lot. Almost turned around because I wasn't in the mood to be let down. Walked in and the restaurant smelled yummy. The restaurant looked clean with employees standing around the bar talking. This restaurant feels like a slight identity crisis. The bar has pretty bubble lights, the employees are wearing all black. The restaurant kind of feels like a nicer fast food place along with wanting to be a sit down restaurant. Ordered the 10 piece spicy wings. Since no meal is complete without a side I ordered a side of kimchi. The wings were $11.95 and the kimichi was $1.95. I was going to get fries, but $3.95 for french fries seems unnecessary. Since I had ordered my meal to go after being at work for 11 hours all I wanted to do was get home. Waited for about 15 minutes and five other people has walked in. At least, they were picking up a little. My wings came in a box like a McDonald's happy meal. This prevented the chicken from getting mushy from the steam. The wings were exceptional!!! So crunchy!! Only negative was that they were not spicy. They were sweet. I actually checked my order that was stapled to the bag to make sure I had ordered spicy. The kimichi was really good too. I will definitely be back to get more wings. Personally, I think this restaurant would be better as a Chipotle style place. The prices are too high for the kind of food they offer in my opinion. The dark mood lighting along makes it feel more upscale than the restaurant really is. If you like wings I would definitely recommend a to go order!

If you have been to other BonChon's then you may need to adjust your expectations slightly. But I will tell you it is still some of the best fried chicken I have ever had. I have been about 4 times now, and they have gotten better each time with their service. The first time we wait 60 minutes for food. Second time they got the order wrong, and only waited 45 minutes. Third time called in and they gave my order away but got my food in 30 minutes. Last time we dined in and were in and out in under an hour. Not bad and I will continue to support a business that is trying. Get some KimChi coleslaw and rice and relax!

I'm gathering from some of the other reviews that folks don't know how Korean chicken works. This is not B-dubs or McDonalds. You don't drown out the chicken with a bunch of sauces and dips. You pick it up with your chop sticks and you savor it, from first crunch to last sweet sensation. I've had a fair share of Korean in DC, and no, this is not *quite* the same, but it is Bonchon, in a desert once barren of Bonchon. I like to get the half and half strips- the flavor is always spot on, and the crispiness even all the way through. I also could eat an entire cup of the daikon radishes all by myself- whoever posted that they're smelly and foul can just pass them right on over to me, because I'm a complete lover of those little sweet and sour cubes. The takiyaki is as described- really hot (temperature) dough with chewy octopus inside, but I haven't had octopus that WASN'T chewy. The Japcahe was really lovely, in my opinion. The noodles were just sticky enough to make the commute from plate to mouth via chopsticks, and the beef was tender and flavorful. I've never had a problem with service here- if anything, service was on the "slightly too attentive" side. All in all, I have no problems with Bonchon. Except maybe that now I really, really, really want some!!!

This chicken is that good. The slogan is "addicted yet?" And it's perfectly appropriate. I don't eat out too terribly often, but these kind of cravings drag me out! They say that fried chicken can be an after dinner snack in Korea, and I'll admit that I've considered it after leaving the movies or if I happen to be in the area... Just for deliciousness. This is a good place to go with friends--it's a fun concept and easy (recommendable) to share a plate. The other foods are good too, but it's all about the chicken.

Bonchon deserves a place with Mya's and Hot Chicken Takeover as one of the top fried chicken spots in Columbus. I was wondering if it could live up to the hype, and it certainly did. The skin is impossibly crispy but still light. Both sauces were delicious, although I wouldn't have mind if the chicken had been sauced a little more heavily. I definitely recommend getting half and half on the sauces, they're both good and it's nice to be able to switch up the flavors. Also, I recommend the wings over the drumsticks or strips. The wings we had were meaty and had the best skin to meat ratio. (And let's be honest, you're here for the skin.)

I ordered the half & half wings, soy ginger is better in my opinion. $15.00 with tip for 5 wings, kinda crazy prices. It was good but didn't have a wow factor not really that impressed...

It has been a while since I've written a review - work tends to get in the way these days more so than not. However, when I heard that Bonchon was coming, I also learned of the absolute HYPE around its opening. If you look at the Bonchon website, you'd be impressed by its international presence. Everything points to a great experience, particularly since this place seems to have a full liquor license. Of course I got 10 of their fried wings, half spicy and half soy garlic. I will say this - their wings pretty much live up to the hype! The first bite into a soy garlic wing was FANTASTIC. Most fried wings you bite into are packed with breading that soaks up grease and has quite the chewy consistency. Biting into Bonchon wings, that apparently use a unique double frying process, is a whole difference experience - similar to a flaky pastry. There is an airy crispness to the skin that is hard to describe but really adds to the quality. I really prefer the soy garlic rather than their spicy flavor but I encourage you to go half and half the first go around. You also get a small bowl of pickled radish to be used between wings. Whereas Bonchon succeeds in living up to the hype in taste, it really falls flat in their service and presentation. There is a bar area to the right of the entrance where there sat a guy behind the counter I assumed to be the host. We made eye contact as I entered, but he immediately looked back down to his computer doing whatever as I stood around confused as how to get seated. After a bit one of the waiters realize this and finally seats me. I then used the restrooms to wash my hands before the inevitable pigout session. Overall, it was pretty messy and clearly ran out of soap earlier - they had a small bottle of hand soap next to the sink. They also ran out of paper towels (of course no air dryer either). So picture me air drying my hands like an maniac in the restroom by myself, because I certainly didn't feel like drying my hands on my clothes. I also decided that my right pinky would have to be sacrificed to open the door without a paper towel - no touching food with that finger! Service was slow. It was somewhat understandable given the made to order and unique process for the wings. However, my waiter had three tables herself during an otherwise slow early evening (probably 6 tables max). They were clearly overstaffed though, because there were plenty of people hanging out purposelessly near the bar. One, who seemed to be a manager, walked casually in and out of the kitchen with rolled up jeans and thin sandals (?!) throughout the evening, often carrying food. Clearly their service, presentation, and management needs some work. Which is disappointing given how good their food seems at first taste and the reputation that the chain has at other locations. I'll be back in a couple of weeks to see if this place thrives - I sure hope so because their wings are fantastic. I can't wait to try some of their more traditional Korean dishes.

Trying to balance out all the negative reviews here, which mainly about the service. Yea, service was bad & slow but this was one week after the opening, so what did you expect? I'd give them at least 2 weeks grace period to settle all the dust. Food wise, it did not disappoint, at all. Skin was crispy, flavor spot on, right amount of glaze, and did I mention the skin and how crispy and delicious it was? Man, 45 minutes wait, pardoned.

I went for lunch and it was amazing! It seems like a lot of the comments were about slow service...they may have addressed that because it was not the case with me. Everything was brought out quickly. The chicken was some of the best fried chicken ever! Super crispy skin! Big portions. This will be in my fried chicken rotation, for sure!

SALMON BALL SALMON BALL SALMON BALL! and oh yeah...the other food is good too! I enjoyed my visit to Bonchon and the service was really good (opposite of what it seems other people experienced). We were very well attended to and had pretty quick delivery of our food. The Salmon Ball (if you couldn't tell) is the best thing I've had in awhile. Having it first though, made every else seem subpar. The Double-Fried chicken wings are good, but I'm not sure if I get what all the hype is about. It's very heavy on the breading (obviously) and it almost makes it seem like there's not as much chicken or rather it deflates when you eat it. I did enjoy the Spicy (mild-ish) wings, but Idk if I'd travel 20 minutes out of my way to visit here again (except maybe for the Salmon Ball). It's kinda pricey too. Appetizer and 10 Wings will cost you $20+. Overall, I definitely say visit this restaurant and if you live close/are in the area, go again.

There was a lot of buzz surrounding the opening of Bonchon in Columbus. I've had really good Korean fried chicken in other cities, so I was excited to try this place out. We heard the wait dining in and can be long, so we just got their fried chicken to go. We ordered the medium combo of 10 piece wings and 5 piece drumsticks and the sauce was half and half. The only sauces they offer is spicy and soy garlic. I liked both sauces and the spicy really isn't too spicy, but it really just depends your level of spiciness! The drumsticks were HUGE. I think I only ate one because it was a little exhausting to finish one haha. I'll probably just get the wings next time. I heard the other food on the menu isn't the greatest, but I'll have to find out for myself during my next visit!

Some of the best fried chicken I've had in Columbus! If you've had Korean fried chicken before this place will not disappoint and if you've never had it before you need to come here and try it! The chicken was crispy and delicious and the sauces were awesome. Some reviews griped about service but my service was fast and attentive so the problem must be solved!

Surprisingly super tasty! We went for lunch and both got the wing combo with half and half sauces which also comes with a side. Both sauces were delicious, but I loved the spicy flavor, it was very flavorful. The chicken is super crispy and the sauce is more of a glaze so it doesn't get too messy which is nice. We will definitely come back because it's a great lunch price, delicious and we want to try more on the menu!

Three words: Juicy Fried Chicken! I went right when it opened yesterday and they were fully staffed and ready to go. Service was excellent and the fried chicken was so tasty! The fried chicken comes with a side of pickled radish. A side of rice is 1.50$ extra. Get the combo with spicy and garlic sauce so you can taste everything!

As a Korean, I was so very disappointed with this place. I will not be returning any time soon. Here's why. First and foremost, the ceiling was leaking, in multiple places. We were a party of six, so they placed us in the small room with bigger tables. The two corners away from the door were dripping from the rain. So they moved us to a different table, but still! Holes on the ceiling! Next, food. Having tried so many Korean chickens in Korea, I had my hopes up for this one. Not because it advertised Korean chicken, but because Bon Chon is a huge Korean franchise in The States and I thought it would live up to its name. For an appetizer, I ordered Takoyaki and it was okay. I noticed another reviewer mention it and he's right. The flavor was fine, but the octopus inside was a bit too chewy and it was mega hot. We also got 30 wings and 20 strips, both half and half. They weren't horrible, but they weren't great. The wings were crunchy and almost too crunchy. Normally Korean chicken isn't that crunchy but I kind'a liked it. Also, inside the wings were super moist, but the strips were really dry. Oh, one tip, the strips are WAY spicier than wings. It must be because strips are flat and that means: more surface area, more sauce to absorb. Anyways, that's another thing, if Korean chicken restaurant ever served boneless chicken, they would NEVER use flat ones. They're always thicker, rounder, bulkier pieces--similar to Buffalo's but more random in shapes. The pickled radish, I could write an essay on this. It's not made right!! It needs to be more sour and sweet so it balances the chicken flavors. But it was too mild and NOT BIG ENOUGH!! No place in Korea serves picked radish that tiny! You almost need to spoon it. They need to be about 1/2-3/4" cubes so that when you bite into it it has that crunch but with sweet and sour juice coming out. Pickled radish is an absolute necessity when it comes to Korean chicken and this was a major disappointment. I made it at home before and I've done it better than they did. Come on. Service. I didn't expect much since I read a few reviews before heading over. I mainly went to try the food, but it was still disappointing to actually experience it. YES, they have extremely dull and slow service. When we went in for an early dinner around 4:30pm, the place was empty except for one table. My initial thought was, "They're not busy, so we should get our food pretty fast!" But no, it took forever for our appetizer to come out and we got our food probably 30-40mins after ordering. When we were finished, there was ONE open table in the entire restaurant. Also, our server couldn't have been more spiritless. Normally I would give waiters some slack--because I know what it's like to be one--but judging by all the other reviews I'm pretty sure that was a normal day. Five different staffs came by to ask where the leak was and NONE of them apologized for the inconvenience. I know it wasn't a huge deal, but in a restaurant, you apologize for the tiniest troubles. If the food was great, I'd go again even if the service was the same. But it wasn't. The food was meh, service was hmm, and the building was leaking. It certainly doesn't deserve the hype it's been getting since the opening. Sorry if you disagree with me, this was just my experience as a Korean at a Korean chicken restaurant.

Let me preface this with I have been waiting for months for the restaurant to open, so I had high hopes for it. I may have went in with too high of an expectation, admittedly. I went today for the grand opening. I ordered the small combo (4 wings, 2 drums) with half and half sauce (half with soy garlic, half with spicy) with a side of white rice (I was really only there for the chicken and the combo was more reasonably priced). Let's start with the good. The chicken is crispy. Deliciously crispy. If I could, I would order only chicken skin and be content eating that. The sauce is good. I preferred the spicy over the soy garlic. The actual chicken? I preferred the wings over the drumsticks. The wings were cooked to perfection. The drumsticks seemed to be overcooked. The meat was very dry. We ate some of our food there and ended up needing a doggy bag. Because it was the first day and there was not very much promotion for it, the place was pretty empty and felt kind of unfinished. But what they had looked nice. I actually preferred it when I got home because it sat for a bit and maybe the flavors married together more, so I will be ordering it to go in the future. I think with a little tweaks, this place could be one of my favorites. I will try it again in a couple of weeks, let them get some kinks out and I will update my review if things have changed. With all that being said, I'm a fan of Bonchon, just not as great as I wanted it to be.

I had read good reviews and knew a chef that had lunched here. His warning was only "stick with the chicken and don't order Korean items." So I heeded his advice. I ordered the chicken with half and half sauces to try them. I thought both sauces were tasty but the chicken was dry and nothing very special. I would not go there and order it again, however. The reason is that it is apparently battered, then thrown into a deep fryer and flash fried. What was completely unappealing to me was that, from what I can surmise, the chicken strips folded over as they were thrown in, making the outside crispy but leaving the batter untouched by the oil inside the fold resulting in a nasty, goopy mess that was disgusting. My husband and I scraped it off, but it was pretty gross. The service was lacking as well. Different people walked by and stopped at different times, but I couldn't determine which one was our server. A booth at the quiet end of the restaurant became available and since we hadn't ordered yet, we asked if we could move there. The waitress said yes, we picked up our silver and drinks and were almost there when the manager, I'm assuming, took a single man to that same booth right before we reached it and sat him. We were standing there with everything in our hands and told him the waitress had told us we could move there. He said nothing in reply, the waitress who had witnessed the whole thing didn't care enough to say to him "I promised them that table" and even the customer went ahead and scooted in when he could have easily been seated elsewhere. I'm an old person and he was in his 20's, and I thought he might say "oh excuse me, then" as I would have done, but he didn't. So we returned, sheepishly, to the original table. I determined then that because of the way they handled that, I wouldn't return, but once we got the chicken with the raw batter, I was more sure than ever. Disappointed.

Delicious crispy chicken! Service was excellent, and I would most definitely go back there again. Highly recommend this place. I also recommend to get the half and half chicken wings. The spicy is very spicy, but delicious.

Worth a visit. Both the spicy wings and the garlic soy were good. The beef sliders were tasty as well. I will be back.

Went to Bonchon Fri. for dinner, ordered chicken strips and several other dishes, the food was just okay, but was disappointed with service, very slow.. and to learn they have the same management team that was in place for Asian to go...Just changed franchise name...which is not uncommon, but to succeed, will have to step up their game...Hopefully service and everything else will improve...Good Luck!

I came here expecting slow service because of previous reviews. It was the opposite of that! The waiter even had to wait for us to be ready to order! Food came out fast, service was good. The flavor and crispness of the chicken was on point~ The chicken legs and wings are HUGE! Must come from a giant chicken haha.

Food: the fried chicken is good, we loved it. The sauce and the crispy skin is delicious. But the service took out the stars from the ratings

When we first walked in, we noticed that there was only one other couple sitting down, which had me worried. The atmosphere was also not the best. We ordered many things, like the Takoyaki, wings, salad, and more. -The wings were pretty good, I personally liked the spicy ones better. -The salad looked nothing like the picture, and it was ok -The Takoyaki was terrible! -The chicken sliders were pretty good -The bulgogi sliders were bad -The doboki was not good , very spicy The service was pretty good. Pricey. Overall, the only good thing were the wings and chicken sliders. Would not recommend this. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, there were ants! I saw one on the wall, but ignored it. A little while later, I find one on my shoulder and wrist! (I am being %100 honest.)

So I've been to one of the original Bonchon's in Virginia near DC...and have loved this place ever since. As was typical of the several places I've been, their chicken is fried just oh so right! Super crispy (I believe it's double fried?) without leaving a flood of grease on it (still greasy mind you, it's fried). There's two chicken flavors - soy and spicy. The spicy is just the right level for me, but I eat pretty darn spicy, so it's probably too much for most people to be honest (probably child's play for their target base though as it IS a Korean chain.. /sarcasm) It's flavor though is pretty much just that...spice. The flavor of the soy is more complex - both sweet and salty but not too much of either. If they could mix the two together, I think that would be perfect. We tried to ask for the sauce on the side so that we could just dip it (leaving the chicken even crispier as well), but the waiter said we couldn't do that. I could have sworn I was allowed to before...but that was years ago, so memory is hazy. The daikon slices is a nice side to the chicken as it's pretty flavorless and mostly just cold and refreshing. Kind of cleansing the palette of all the spiciness. We got the large half and half (something like 15 wings and 8 drumsticks?) for 4 people. Two people with us who like monsters and two others who don't eat much and it was pretty much the right amount of food. So it's probably just right for four normal people as well. There's room for improvement - mainly some kind of mixed flavor. As such, I can't give a full five star. How hard is it really to just let us have the sauce on the side...? Really? So yes, a full star taken off for that. Otherwise, still love it and would come back. Oh yea, actually, service is SUUUUUPER slow in terms of actually getting the food. We were seated pretty much immediately, and orders taken quickly. But the wait to actually get the food was very, very long.

We got here and ordered our food. Was told it would be an hour wait while the take our line orders were getting filled constantly every 15 minutes. Now I'm going to be late for MY CROQUET MATCH!!!

The wings here are fantastic. I tried spicy and soy garlic separately. I would recommend mixing the two but the breading is extra crispy and flavorful. This place is definitely worth trying if you enjoy chicken wings.

So, I live near this place and have driven by it nearly every day since opening. My assumption was that this was another generic Chinese restaurant, serving the same sub-par General Tso. I had NO IDEA this was Korean, specializing in fried chicken wings - and a chain with big city locations (this being the first location in Ohio). Had I known what this restaurant was, my husband and I would have visited much sooner. We only tried the chicken wings, drum sticks and fries. I loved the soy garlic sauce (sweet, but not over-powering and not sticky). This chicken is crispy and delicious! The best part, we had leftovers and the chicken tastes just as good cold the next day. Unfortunately, when I went in to pick up my order (just before peak dinner time), the location was a ghost town. I feel like someone needs to hold a sign out front, exclaiming "Best fried chicken in town!" to promote the business. I really hope Bonchon makes it, I'd hate to see the restaurant fail due to others not being aware of the tasty chicken being prepared inside.

I've had korean fried chicken at Crisp in Chicago which was voted in the top of the best fried chicken in US so I know korean chicken wings. these were good, the spicy were not really spicy but had a great flavor. the soy ones were great as well. chicken was served fresh cooked. I do agree with the people who said it was pricey, about $15 per person and this is a chain restaurant, not a small business. the Daikon had a weird after taste and after some google research I think they use an artificial sweetener to make it which gave it it's taste. overall a solid place and if i'm missing crisp then i'll settle

The wings were good as some had said in prior posts. I am not sure what double fried is but they are super crispy and tasty. We did the dual flavor combination of spicy and soy flavored. Both were equally tasty. In addition we tried one of the spicy chicken dishes, Bull Dak which was very good. They also provide a side of squared pickled radishes which we really liked. My wife mentioned it really helped reduce the heat from the spicy dishes. I love spicy but I did like the taste of the radishes. The service was very good, so I am guessing they added more servers since the earlier review and they also had the place looking very clean and well decorated (also plenty of TV's for the sports fans). We will definitely be back and I want to try the lunch specials.

Very good and crispy chicken legs; will try the Spicer sauce next time. House fried rice very good, though would have added a little extra soy sauce, but I really like salty. Potstickers are fried and a little sweet, nice change from standard steamed. Overall, great place for casual lunch or dinner.

The wings are HUGE and very tasty, but mine had almost no sauce on them. Wait staff was pretty inattentive, so take-out may be the better option.

It was a very cool Spring day when my (much older) sister invited us to attend Bonchon during their Grand Opening Celebration. It was clear that she had forgotten what it's like to eat with a two-year-old and a one-year-old. After she emailed us the menu, it was a very short decision that the eight of us would enjoy a nice family meal together. After my wife turned vegetarian an evening of fried chicken sounded really good. We arrived shortly after my sisters family and the wait staff promptly took our order. After a short discussion on whether or not my niece would eat squid, everybody had ordered. I could tell that the waiter was eager to move onto the next table as it took two reminders for him to deliver water just to get him to come back. That's 15 minutes of my life I'll never get back. After struggling with my two-year-old, trying to tell her that chopsticks don't indeed go in your eyeball, our food finally arrived. My wife ordered the vegetarian Bibimbap (typical) while I got the Bulgogi and 5 wings for my "daughter." I quickly learned that she would only eat the meat leaving the extremely crispy skin to quench my delight. It is all that it is cracked up to be!!! Absolutely wonderful wings. But for two bucks a piece, they better be. We finished our evening watching my daughter crawl all over the floor and in between the table legs. We watched my one year-old son break his third sippy cup. And I watched my (much older) sister divvy up her leftovers for lunch tomorrow. Was it good food? Yes. Was it good service? It was ok. Will I come back? Yes, after my next pay raise.

I walked in really excited, having read all the great reviews... But where to start? First off, it took 10 minutes for the waiter to greet us at the table. We were getting ready to leave when we finally got out drink order taken. Secondly, my s/o went to the ladies room shortly after and found it to be absolutely disgusting, with the garbage overflowing with towels and discarded feminine hygiene products. She came out horrified, and noted if the bathroom looked that way then imagine what the kitchen looks like. As for the food, the potsickers were good enough. But the main attraction should be the chicken, right? Wrong. I got a plate of breading with sauce on it, with scant ,dry, unseasoned meat underneath. The kimchi was slimy and warm, not crunchy like it should be. The service: our waiter was OK, when he was around. We did have to wait about 10 minutes on our first refills. So, there's that. All in all, its was a huge disappointment and I can honestly say I'm not going to be coming back. This sucks because I had such high hopes. Avoid.

I'm not a wing fan generally, so I was relieved they have "tenders" too. They were delicious - pounded thin and fried till the coating is wonderfully crispy. How they managed cook the thin meat so perfectly is a bit of a wonder... the chicken stayed moist despite being very thin. I've had Korean food that burned the taste-buds out of my mouth, so I opted for the sweet sauce. It was so good! I also loved the kimchee coleslaw. Our service was very good. The prices seem a bit high, but I got enough food to have leftover lunch the next day, too.

Gird your loins Internet, I'm back! A restaurant needs to get got, and I'm fired up...ready to go. Hey, corporate office! What in the blue fuck is going on here? You're running a restaurant chain, not the Internal Revenue Service's Cincinnati office! Why hasn't everyone here been fired? Don't bother now, it's almost certainly too late. There's not really much reason to write this review, because this problem is going to take care of itself in short order. I just don't want it blamed on what's presumed to be just a bunch of midwestern flyover hayseeds who won't eat anything that doesn't start with "chicken fried". The chicken is delicious. Doesn't matter. Food review over. I have seen gangrenous wounds with more curb appeal than this restaurant. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the place looks abandoned, not withstanding the Grand Opening sign. There are tall weeds everywhere and the parking lot pavement is a shambles. There's what appears to be an abandoned car in the back of the building. How the hell do they have missing letters on their door signage two weeks after opening? HAHAHA the city health department health sticker (who did they bribe?) is affixed cockeyed on the door. For the following, keep in mind I was the first customer in the door on a Sunday. Let's go to the lightning round of what I observed: (yeah I'm already going stream-of-consciousness...just work with me here) 1. unpainted heavily scuffed baseboards 2. food on the floor (seriously) 3. food scraps on numerous tables (no i'm not kidding) 4. a bloody hole in the freaking floor! 5. The saddest looking bar I've seen since Otani closed. Plastic tumblers stacked up against the bar's back wall? That's appealing. The bar actually reminds me of a few pictures I've seen of foreigners only restaurants in Pyongyang, North Korea. Really. 6. What is that decoration? Is that a lava lamp? In fact, who decorated this whole place? Do it again. This time, try. 7. It looks like they wanted (and mega failed) to make the place look elegant. The whole place looks like they thought about being a quick service restaurant and decided at the last minute to have waiters and booze. The television advertisement board in the back? Fine for a new build Wendy's...not fine if I'm tipping a waiter and you have a liquor license and $15 entrees. 8. OMG the bathroom. Exposed holes and caulking from where previous fixtures were torn off the wall. Slippery floor. I don't know what the hell that was on top of the garbage can. No paper towel in the (heavily worn) dispenser. One 3/4 finished roll of paper town sitting on top of the dispenser. 9. The employees seemed demoralized, disorganized and disinterested. I blame their non-existent management...100%. 10. Pretty damned expensive considering all of the above. If this place has any hope of avoiding the upcoming highly suspicious middle of the night kitchen fire that destroys the place, they need a come to Buddha moment. Now. What they really need to do is close for a week and airlift Mr. Wolf to fix this abomination of mismanagement.

I was unfamiliar with Bon Chon chain and heard many good things about it. I had not eaten Korean BBQ and was eager to try it. I echo many of the reviewers complaints about slow service. We waited 20 minutes for a server to wipe down our table and another 20 minutes to get menus. I ordered the Japmae, which was ok, and definitely should have ordered the wings. My friend was completely dissatisfied with the service and I tried to place myself in the server's shoes. A Grand Opening, busy Saturday night, and perhaps not an experienced or trained wait staff. Servers were frantic and tried really hard but the slow pace of service was really terrible.

I am a fried chicken fan and also a big fan of anything spicy. That being said, Bonchon should be my new favorite place and yes it is, if we are strictly talking about food. So let's talk about food first, since that's the only positive thing in this review. We ordered wings and drumsticks combo with the buldak. The chicken combo was requested with half/half sauce which was awesome. I love the spicy sauce but it was a bit too spicy for the hubster. The wings and drummies are crunchy and perfectly coated with the sauce. I read a lot of comments about too much breading.. uhmm.. I totally do not mind it, it was good and did not taste bready or too flour-y. The accompanied pickled daikon was perfect with the sweet and spicy chicken, I just wish that there's more of it. Buldak was okay. That's it... just okay. I wouldn't order it again, since it seemed a bit pricy for what you get. Now on to the experience. We went on a Saturday during lunch hour. It wasn't busy at all, but we still have to wait for our table.... why? Well, I realized later that there were lots of unbused tables. The service was just like everybody else said, slow... and seemed a bit inexperienced, but it's okay, I understand.. I guess... All in all, we will be back, but will not to eat in. It was not the best experience in terms of service, but the chicken definitely pulled through that we will be back just for that, but to-go ... never again eating in.. well unless their service was better. However until that problem was fixed, we won't be dining in.

I've been to Bonchon three times now. Twice at dinner (5p & 730p) and once at lunch (1120A). First off, for those negative reviews, yes, service is slow. This is a new restaurant, and while a chain, it seems people's expectations are high as a result of its international reputation. Service will certainly improve, and when it does, my rating will go to 5 stars. That reputation for great chicken wings is warranted. Either flavor is fantastic, and the double fry is perfectly executed. The spice on the hot wings will sneak up on you after the second wing. If you don't do well with spicy food and want to try this, get the drums as the skin to meat ratio helps to cut some of the spice. Speaking of the chicken types, I wouldn't suggest the strips as they looked unappetizing when my corworker got them, and appeared to be dry. He confirmed my suspicions. If you love crispy skin like me, the wings are nearly perfect. But what about the other dishes? I haven't yet tried all of them, but here are my thoughts on what I have tried: * Bulgogi sliders - well executed and surprisingly light. Would order again. * Bulgogi fried rice -same as above, minus the light part * Salmon avocado ball - excellent. Great flavor and satisfies that want of cooked sushi rolls * Fries (regular or seasoned) - I'm assuming these are also double fried as they have a great crisp to them. While I liked both, I think it's worth the extra for the seasoned. * Calamari/Fried Squid - soy garlic is fried directly into these.Great flavor. So, if you want some great fried chicken (especially knowing what options are nearby), check your service expectations at the door for the time being. it's not so abysmal you won't enjoy it.

I had been longing for Bon Chon to open and finally they did! We came tonight, the receptionist told us it'll be 20mins wait, which we thought was reasonable. But the wait turned out to be 50 minutes to get seated. We had a one year old. We knew that it would take a while, so we started feeding our baby first and had ordered right away. It ended up another 50+ minutes before one of the waiters brought in a bowl of edamame after numerous inquiries of our order.... Seriously? You can steam a pot of edamame in less than couple minutes... Speechless about the wait. All the servers seems like they are pretty new to the operation. We had tried to be understanding since the server told us that they are understaffed. I think the owner should have done a better job of planning the staff, the cooks as well. I'm sure the food would be great, but we had to leave empty without getting any food because our baby was getting really tired at 10pm!!!

Bonchon is a dangerous new addiction of mine. The chicken is out of this world and that is coming from someone who rarely eats meat. The spicy is pretty hot but so good when you have the pickled radishes with it. The soy garlic sauce is also great. Try it all. The service isn't always fast but it is so worth the wait.

It's very delicious fried chicken! There are just two flavor to choose from, spicy and garlic soy (which I think they used honey because it has a sweet note to the flavor). The skin is not heavily breaded yet extremely crunchy. I also applause them for focusing on the drums and wings instead of breasts. I am personally not a fan of chicken breasts fried; dark meat is so much juicier and flavorful. As for the wait, I think partially it's forgivable since (I'm guessing) the chicken is double fried so it takes a little longer to reach the crunchy and not greasy state. But when I was there, there were only three table, and yet it took about half and hour. They were very over staffed too so that's why I'm taking off a star.

3.5 is more accurate. We ordered carry out and didn't have any challenges with a wait(it was ready when we got there 15 minutes after the order) The chicken strips were good. Spicy has a kick. If you don't enjoy spicy foods stick with the soy garlic. The fried rice was average at best plus they have me chicken and I order bulgogi. We live near Easton so probably won't make the drive for Bonchon very much, but we would try it again.

Ordered spicy chicken wings for lunch. Pleasant experience... staff were courteous. Place seemed very clean, well kept. Their spicy chicken wings weren't the best I've tasted in Columbus, but then I'm very picky. If you like blazing hot spicy wings, these are not what you are looking for... but they definitely have a kick and are tasty. It's definitely a place I'd recommend trying and I most likely will return to try other things on the menu.

My Korean friends took me there to try this KFC(Korean Fried Chicken). Compared to Rooster and Buffalo, this KFC is much better. I am extremely wondering how the skin can be so crispy. So amazing! I am definitely addicted to it. My several friends told me they tried that in NY and Washington DC, now it opened in Columbus! I really look forward to being there again. I do read the reviews before I went there. I used to hesitate a little bit about their service, but it just happened in few minutes. And so grateful I did not quit at the last minute, as it really satisfied my appetite of fried chicken. The server I had yesterday was nice. Patient, and helped me take care of my 'busy' little boy. At least, for me, the server is excellent. Am I lucky? Haha......

We stuck with the chicken: wings, drums and strips. Wow. I don't know the science behind it, but this is the way to fry chicken! Super crispy on the outside and just awesome. Both sauces were great, although I didn't think the spicy was ridiculously hot as some would suggest. The dining area is contemporary and spotless. Service was attentive and non intrusive. Perfect. And Columbus Brewing IPA on tap.....also perfect!

Who doesn't love that CRUNCH when you bite into something like potato chips? The chicken wings here seem to be double fried and battered for a fantastic crunch that is sweet and spicy with a meaty chicken wing. This seems to be kind of a unique Korean - American inspired fusion of fried chicken and Korean homogenized side dishes. I am an American who gets Korean take out restaurant food frequently. This is a safe bet for anyone to try some new flavors of side dishes along with good fried chicken. I've been to this place once. I ordered a combo of Bonchon chicken / small / half & half- spicy-soy that includes pickled daikon. I also got a side of Kimchi and white rice. This place kind of reminds me of Popeyes' Chicken, but they also serve wine and beer. The decor is a 1990's club atmosphere / fast food with black painted wood and neon bubble led lights that is better suited for the interior of a late model limousine used by stripper clubs. T&A might be a good addition. Lol. I hope they succeed, but the location is hidden in plain sight among the big box stores at Sawmill & 161. I do love crunchy fried chicken and kimchee. You should try it! A negroni is always a great cocktail with Korean food. Yum.

I've been anticipating Bon Chon for months. Been a fan of it in NYC and other types of Korean Chicken, so when I heard that it was coming to Columbus I was ecstatic. Food: Perfect... well almost. I got a 8 piece combo for lunch and it was delicious.... BUT... I received 2 pieces that were half the size, and to me that was a bit underwhelming considering the price that it is at. I also ordered the Duk Buk Gi and it was good and spicy. Service: Service was ok when tables were only 1/4 occupant. I came back another day and the place was semi busy and there was a 50 min wait with the food. I understand that they probably under estimated the number of customers or have a lack of experience, should have been fixed before a "grand opening" Overall: I really want to give this place 4/5-5/5 because in the end the chicken is great but service needs to be equally as good too. Food is great, lacks professionalism.

My husband and I along with our two children ate here for the first time this past Saturday. We were surprised to learn that they did not have a kids menu but, just settled on getting the wings and some fries. Our waitress seemed very inexperienced which made for an awkward dining experience. When she came over to take our drink order she stood there staring at us silently then after a few minutes said okay let's get your drinks. We ordered juice which was brought to the table in single serve bottles along with cups (with no ice) and straws . We thought it was different because they usually pour it in the cup rather than having the customer do it but, it wasn't a big deal so we brushed it off. Our food was brought out quickly and the wings were very good, the fries were ok and the white radish stuff served with it tasted and smelled awful. Our only complaint about the wings is we felt they needed a little more sauce. When my husband requested a side of sauce he was told that they do not give sauce on the side. Overall the wings were good but, due to the prices, lack of customer service and the fact everything else was ok or not good we probably won't come back.

My real Korean American opinion of this place is that it's worth stopping by and definitely worth coming back again. I was a little concerned after reading some of the previous reviews, especially the one from that young "korean" kid but my family and I gave it a try anyhow. My thoughts on his scathing review would be "Is he crazy!"? First of all when I went it was pouring rain and I'm glad to say I didn't see any holes or drips in their ceiling. Second the radish he's talking about is supposed to be that size. That's why they have chopsticks! We tried the bulgogi sliders and they were good, maybe not $12 good but my picky 12 yr old son liked them which is rare. We also had the wings and strips in half and half. The wings were very crunchy in the outside and hot and juicy on the inside. Can you ask for anything more from a chicken wing... I think not. The garlic was nice and not very spicy and had good flavor. The spicy was great! Personally when I eat spicy I enjoy breaking a little sweat. I do agree that the strips were a little on the dry side but that has more to do with the thin cuts. The portion size overall was very nice. There were about 4 other groups there when we went and we had our food about 20-25 minutes after ordering which was on par. This seems to have improved. The service was ok and I'm ok with that b/c we didn't go there to talk to the waitress. She did refill our waters at least twice by my count while we ate. Also I wanted to comment on the review that said he paid $15 for 5 wings. Those were 5 "Drumsticks" for $12. I just saw it on the menu. How do you confuse a drumstick with a wing?? Anyhow the service was acceptable and the food was great. We vow to return.

I love Bonchon. Had it for the first time in the DC metro area. The spicy fried chicken is simply juicy and delectable, and is genuinely spicy - or at least it was in DC. For some reason we seem to be getting a blander recipe in Ohio. Regardless, the chicken is still epic and this is now easily the best fried chicken available in Ohio. This location does seem to have an abridged menu compared to Bonchon in other locales. I'm hoping that they bring the additional items in at some point.

After hearing quite a bit of hoopla about Bonchon, I finally made it over there a few days ago. They have a fair amount of variety on their menu, but I was there for the chicken, so I stuck with that this time around. I was able to try both the spicy chicken and the soy garlic chicken even though I only ordered the spicy (the person who brought out our food mixed by plate of drumsticks up with my friend's order). In terms of frying, the chicken was excellent. The crunch in the skin was superb. But in terms of flavor, I was largely underwhelmed. The spicy chicken did have a bit of kick, but there wasn't much going on flavorwise beyond that. And the soy garlic was, as I figured it would be, too sweet for my interests. When I was eating, I kept thinking that the chicken would go well with some sort of nicely flavored dipping sauce. I don't know what that might be, but it needs something more for the taste in my opinion.

I have been there twice in the last month, and I love their chicken drums! I recommend their spicy chicken drum. I tried their garlic chicken and it was not as good as spicy one. If you can handle hot sauce, don't hesitate to order spicy one. I gave four stars, because besides chicken other dishes are not that outstanding.

Best fried chicken I've had. Crispy, but not oily. Flavorful, but not drenched in sauce. The ddukbokkie with cheese is comparable to Korea, so do order. The service is fine - nothing to complain about. As this business continues to settle in, I'm am sure things will continue to improve.

Great flavor, service was pretty slow for being lunch time when we went along with the boneless chicken being slightly dry. Will probably go back.

Their service has improved since my last visit but I can't get past how greasy and fatty my chicken was. I'm not generally a picky eater but when it comes to eating meat, I have a hard time with eating around fatty pieces to get to the good stuff. This was hard to stomach for me and I'm not sure I'll order their fried chicken again unless they start purchasing better quality poultry.

Soy garlic and Hot sauce on perfectly cooked and very crispy fried chicken! The flavor is so good that you just can't stop eating even when you are full. I also like the fact that you can get both the sauce in a single order. It is perhaps one of my favorite fried chicken joint's in Columbus.I am so glad to have an option other than the usual fried chicken joints.

I know they are brand new but we received terrible service. The waitress forgot about our wings and looked at me like I was crazy when I asked about them. All I expect is a sorry for forgetting and a smile. I didn't get either. I think the prices are crazy high for the portion and quality. Everything about this place seemed like it should be fast casual, except for the servers and price points. I wished I had gotten takeout at one of the various Asian restaurants nearby as we originally planned-I would have saved money and enjoyed better food.

Korean fried chicken..what's not to like? We got the large combo (15 wings and 8 drums) that was flavored half soy garlic and half spicy. We split this among three hungry people and it was just right. The chicken was fried perfectly -- super crunch, with the soy garlic a little sweet, and the spicy...well, pretty spicey, at least for me. It was also hot, temperature wise. They serve the fried chicken with a some daikon cubes which were refreshing with the chicken. I would have liked some sauce on the side to dip in -- I mean, I'm glad the wings/drums were not dripping with sauce and super messy to eat, but I would have liked the option to add some additional sauce. The waiter offered to take our order back to the kitchen and brush more sauce on it though, so that's an option for those looking for a bit more on the fried chicken. We came in the late afternoon (4:30 pm ish) and we seated immediately and served very quickly as well. Next time, I'd like to try more on their menu. Overall, great food, great service.

Some of the absolute best fried chicken Columbus has to offer! My fiancée and I got the small combo which included their spicy and their sweet fried chicken, pickled radish, and kimchi coleslaw. I'd recommend the same to anyone who asks!

I went there this evening. Even though I waited for a while, I was really satisfied with the food and the service. Highly recommended!

Good chicken. Overall nice servers to... just way in over their heads. Avoid busy hours because management probably doesn't have a handle on training. I'd give them more time. Poor guys. One star because of the exorbitant wait times.

This might be best enjoyed as a take-out place. While the wings were quite good (we ordered a combo of half soy garlic, half spicy-- they were flavorful, decent sized, and not greasy), the rest of the food and atmosphere was disappointing. Fries were just fine-- like any you'd get at a chain restaurant-- and the potstickers were similarly generic. We sat in a booth that didn't seem quite clean (sticky table top) and had a server who while pleasant was a little forgetful (or perhaps still learning the ropes, which is understandable). For instance, the menu listed "extra dressing" as a side, and I was curious whether this was extra wing sauce, dipping sauce for fries, etc-- when I asked the server, she said she didn't know what that was, and that was the end of it. When my fellow diner asked for a side of soy sauce for the potstickers (which we'd seen at another table), she went to get it and never returned until it was time to deliver our bill. The bill was also pricey for the quality of food and dining experience, which is yet another reason I wish we'd just ordered wings and enjoyed them in the comfort of our home with our own side dish choices. That's what we'll do in the future if we return. Verdict: in my experience the wings are delicious and worth recommending, everything else is not.

After hearing about Bonchon from a friend, I was excited to try out the Korean crispy chicken wings. The reason I'm not giving two stars is because the chicken with the spicy sauce is actually really good. However, it will most likely prove too spicy for most American palates. This place opened up a little over two weeks ago and it's clear that they are still working out the kinks. Though the restaurant was only half full, it took almost 20 minutes to receive our food. We were in no hurry, but it shouldn't take that long for deep fried chicken. We also ordered chicken strips without the sauce, but received chicken legs. And there was not a hint of salt or seasoning. Had to ask for salt since the tables have none. The cook should be keen on this especially since you cannot ask for the sauce on the side. My wife ordered bibimbap. It was ok, but any Korean restaurant or home could do way better than this. It was very "Americanized". For some that could be a good thing, but for us Korean food lovers, it was a step back. Also, for deep fried chicken, you are paying a lot. $10+ for ten wings or drumsticks. I expect greatness at this price. Lastly, the bill came out to $42 so I gave $60 expecting change. When I didn't receive any, I asked the server and she was shocked that I wanted change. I still gave her 20% on the tip but she stood by me as I counted out the tip and took it directly from me. Made it a little awkward. I'm glad Bonchon is here, but I'm sad that it will not last for too long unless it works out these kinks.

The food was very good. The chicken skin was crispy. The service was just ok. Servers did not seem enthusiastic or very experienced in serving at all. The biggest disappointment of the night was when I received my check in the American Express check jacket. I put my American Express card in the American Express check jacket. "sorry we don't take American Express."

I guess i can't pick no stars but anyways let me start by saying i don't do the review thing either but this place was so bad i had to do one not only that if i could save someone from spending $80.00 on a family of 4 and still walk out hungry that's got to tell you something the strips are horrible the salmon salad look like someone was punking us the wings and drums were inconsistent in size and dry i do like the soy ginger sauce the only plate that looked and taste ok was the chicken catsu oh and the calamari appetizer wowwwwwww nothing like the picture it was half of size shown but still $14.00 when i mentioned that to the waitress she said that it was good in size the pic i see on the menu was a close up that's why it looks like that i do not ever plan on coming back EVER!!!!!!!!!!

Only getting a 3 due to service, not food. Waiter continually checked on other tables, some multiple times, before coming to ours. I even had to get my own leftover box. After reading the prior reviews, I expected service to be sub-par. We went for lunch, arriving a little before noon. There were probably 3 other tables sat before we had our order taken. Food took a little long to arrive, but the taste and quality was worth the wait. Avocado ball was a bit too mayo-y for my taste, but still fresh in flavor and can be easily split to share. I ordered off the lunch menu special and got the 8 wings and fries plate, half and half on sauce. If you like spicy, don't waste your time getting the Garlic Soy. I will definitely give them a few weeks before going back, in the hopes that the wait staff will be more timely and attentive. Service should improve, and when it does, my rating will go up. Oh and they don't take AmEx, though ironically, they give you your bill in AmEx holders.

This was our first time at Bonchon. I'm rating this more on the service than the food. We ordered the small combo, bibimbop and a side of kimchee. There were tables that came in after us and it took the server a while to take their order. There were a lot of servers standing around, so not sure if they knew what they were doing. The sad part is, their food came out before ours did. The server finally stopped by and said he moved our order to the top of the queue and it would be another 10 minutes. We had already been waiting for 40 minutes. I'm not sure if a manager was on duty, but no one stopped by to acknowledge the long wait. The food was excellent, but waiting so long made it less exciting. He forgot the kimchee and tried to charge us for it. I think the food is good, but overpriced.

Unbelievable great experience!!! First time here and it was pretty busy. We ordered the medium wings half & half and it came out about 20-25 mins ish which was reasonable and the service was great. Definitely be back for more!!

The Korean fried chicken was amazing!! I went here last night with my boyfriend and my 11 year old son. We all enjoyed the food!! We ordered 20 wings-half spicy and half sweet- so tasty-super crunchy coating on the outside with juicy, delicious chicken inside. The fries were great as well-crispy and hot tossed in some seasoning, parmesan, and herbs. The menu had more Korean offerings that looked great, --takoyaki, bibimbap, tonkatsu, and dumplings! I will definitely be returning to try everything else on the menu. Atmosphere was casual, alright service(they just opened, so I will cut them some slack) , lots of seating including a bar. *Please note: Korean fried chicken takes a little longer to fry--it is worth the wait, just order a beer or an appetizer to snack on..

Pros: the food was FANTASTIC. Everything tasted fresh and arrived at our table piping hot. The chicken was super crunchy and the glazes were incredibly flavorful. Cons: Service was really awful. It took an hour for everyone to get food, and even then, what some people got wasn't what they ordered. One couple got their food long before anyone else and they were done eating by the time others received theirs. The servers all looked like deer in headlights. They tried, but it was definitely a joint fail between kitchen and service staff. Because the food is so good, I'd recommend ordering take out until they get their servers trained or they can at least find their footing. Because right now, it's apparent that neither is the case.

I'm disappointed that they didn't marinate the chicken beforehand, so only the skin has flavor but the meat is plain which makes it doesn't exceed the other chicken wing restaurants.

I consider myself a fried chicken connoisseur. This is the best I've ever had. I'd only experienced this place in Korea Town in Manhattan. It was a dream come true when they brought one to central, OH - let alone my own backyard. I went on opening day so the staff was still getting acclimated to the menu but our service was fine. In NYC I opted for the soy garlic chicken but these days I'm obsessed with spice so that's my current recommendation, but you can try both. As a kid my mom would get KFC extra crispy and I'd tear the skin off before enjoying the white meat. Bonchon's crispy exterior is different, it's "double fried" so the crispiness is special and the flavor is perfect. I look forward to trying everything on the menu but for now I can only vouch for the fried chicken. Do yourself a favor and stop into Bonchon for the most delicious, fried chicken imaginable.

Maybe they've worked out the long wait time kinks as we showed up on Saturday night around 8pm and were seated immediately and food showed up on our table 15 mins later. The drum and wings combo was not what we expected. They were full-sized drumsticks. The crisp on the skin was great though. The spicy was quite spicy -- too much so for me. The garlic soy was tasty. The flappers didn't need any more sauce but the full-sized drumsticks did with the higher meat to skin ratio. We asked for extra sauce on the side but were told they don't do that. Why not? Service was ok, but overall the employees seemed very lackadaisical like they'd rather be anywhere but where they were. I suppose I would be too if I worked at a fried chicken place.

I've been to other Bonchon's in the east coast. And this location is on entirely different level in a bad way. The service is horrible! I've waited almost 70 minutes to get served after I ordered. And this place was only half way full. The food wasn't that great either. The bathrooms were filthy . Very disappointed on all levels. I don't know if it's because they just opened. The table next to us got their appetizer after they got their entree. Like for real?!? But this is definitely not a good experience!

We had high hopes for this place given past experiences in D.C. We got there during dinner time and were seated right away. We placed our orders and patiently waited for our food. 10 minutes turned into 20. 20 minutes eventually turned into 45 minutes. It was annoying to see people who came after us getting their food. The waitress seemed indifferent to us and blamed the kitchen for the wait. The people I was with agreed with me in thinking the waitress forgot to place the order. Finally the food came and we were so disappointed. The spicy wasn't as spicy as the one in D.C. and some of the legs were dry. It was also frustrating to keep reminding the waitress to bring things we had requested. I saw the managers walking around without stopping at tables to get feedback. For a chain restaurant I expected a lot more. Given that I've been to other locations and saw how things were managed I also expected better service and food at this location. I'll give it a few months for them to work out the kinks before I dine in again.

THIS is the KFC you should be raving about. Forget that stuff sold by the guy in the white suit - Korean Fried Chicken is a totally different animal, and BonChon does a great job with it. We went in as a table and decided to order their takoyaki, a big wing and legs combo, and some of the "regular" fried chicken strips (which are actually more like little pounded out cutlets than a more traditional chicken finger, but still good). I really enjoyed the ones tossed in their spicy sauce, though I agree it could stand to be kicked up a bit more, but the soy garlic wasn't too bad. My only real objection is that for a place that has bonchon as their name...they don't serve any. I'm used to going out for Korean and enjoying the little bowls of kimchi and other preserved or pickled items as an accent, but BonChon only provides a small bowl of pickled daikon as a side for an other - anything else is separate. It's far from a dealbreaker, but it would be kinda nice to get a little more for your money there.

Both times I've been to Bonchon I had excellent service, once at lunch and once at dinner. I ordered the mix of wings and drums on the first visit-- Excellent! Hot, extremely crispy on the outside but tender on the inside. Unlike most American fried chicken, I didn't find it to be greasy in the least. Killer fries, too. On the dinner visit I chose to stick with wings because they're easier to share. I also got the bibimbap which was fine, but certainly the chicken is the star attraction. The spicy sauce was my favorite and the half & half was also good.
