Went to Bar 23 this past weekend for a bachelorette party. We had a main server along with one who was in training. For some reason it took a really long time to get our drinks, and not all of our food came out at the same time. Not to mention the place wasn't even packed. The staff was friendly, but the service wasn't great. I wanted to pay for my bill in cash, but the waiter told me he had to have a credit card to keep the tab open. He insisted that my card would not be charged after I reminded him twice that I was paying cash. At the end of the meal, the female server-in-training brought my bill with the card inside. It did not look like it had been swiped. I left a $20, with the tip included, and we headed to our next destination. Looked at my bank account this morning only to find out that they DID charge my card. Did they think I was leaving a $20 tip?! Not happy.

I went there with some friends this past evening post happy hour and was largely disappointed. The service was absolutely dreadful. Although I can't complain about the nigthy $1 domestic specials, it took almost 25 minutes for me to get said beer. Admittedly, I have not tried any of the food, but the martinis I tasted were lackluster and standard. I would say that the only reason the place was as crowded as it was is the location on the cap.

Went there on a Thursday pretty late at night and the place was dead. The place was actually exactly what I was lookin for that evening, a nice trendy place to go have a couple drinks and hold a conversation. The patio area definitely made the place however I could have done without the club music. Would be more than willing to go back as I have finally found a place to hangout late on a Thursday. Oh, did I mention last call is at 2:30? Yea that's right, 2:30 am!

After an enormous dinner further down the street, we crawled in here looking for shots as a quick and easy way to bachelorette madness. One of the girls in our group had previously worked at a different bar with the owner and several of the bartenders, so I was surprised that they weren't terribly friendly or accommodating. She claimed that we were getting discounted drinks, but I definitely paid for a round of shots at $6 each (maybe that's cheap for Columbus?). Regardless, there was a table for us to all crowd around and get comfortable, and the music was pretty good - enough so that we were disappointed that there wasn't room to get up and cut a rug. Crowded spot, which is a good sign for a seemingly new joint.

Everyone has said it best by saying that it's a decent one-drink bar, but not a main event place. I came in for day drinks this past Saturday, and thanks to the never-ending March Madness, there was a random collection of people in the bar (some WT, some hipsters, a couple of families...it was all very strange). The barkeep vacillated between playing the game through the speakers, and playing one of my fav XM stations, Alt Nation. I was really happy when he had it set to Alt Nation, but basketball makes me want to die. The bartender filled us in on this tidbit: the happy hour pricing starts when they open and goes until 9:00, even though the signs say "Happy Hour from 4:00 until 9:00". I had three Bar 23 Cosmos and they were so delicious. It doesn't take much to please me when it comes to booze, but the limeade in this drink added a refreshing twist to a tried and true classic. I tried my friend's pop rock martini, and the pop rocks were really the only shining point for that particular drink. We did order the chips with spinach dip whilst there, and it was pretty typical spin. dip, but the chips were really good (although it's hard to mess up potato chips in my mind). I definitely would not come here just to eat, but if I was drinking and had the munchies, I would definitely order those chips.

I loathe this bar. My old roommate (who I don't loathe), drug me here on a few occasions and, despite having a great time with her and friends, I absolutely hated the bar. The music is waaaay too loud, to the point that it's crazy obnoxious. The bar is brightly lit, the drinks are over-priced, it gets overcrowded to the point it's a pita to get to the restrooms, and on and on and on. I haven't been back to Bar 23 since she moved out west (miss you, Jacklin M!).

Bar 23 was a stop on a bar crawl for a friend's bachelorette party, and it was a great place for that purpose. We made it there for happy hour. Some of the girls had beer and wine while a few others broke out the martinis. It was a nice night, so we moved out to the patio out front which I really enjoyed. It was great people watching through that part of the Short North and drinks were totally reasonably priced and fairly strong. The decor is somewhat overly trendy and therefore cheesy. The bar stools in the main part of the bar are ridiculously uncomfortable. Overall, I'd come back here on a beautiful night during happy hour with friends after dinner or before hitting up somewhere else. Someone else said it best: this place is not a main event, but it was fine for a stop on the way.

Came here on a Saturday night - it was pretty quiet when I came in (relatively - the music was actually incredibly loud). A friend from college is loves the candy martinis. The idea is very meh in my opinion. My cosmo and orange martini were actually pretty decent. But the incredibly loud music and the woo girls having a bachelorette party put me off. Actually, there was something about the mood of the whole place that just wasn't my 'scene'. It's not a terrible place....just not for me.

This place has a great happy hour. I will only go here before 9pm because happy hour ends at 9 and then it becomes a meat market. I really enjoy the patio. The wait staff is normally pretty good. There has only been one time when I had to get up from my table to go in and order a round of drinks from the bartender. Let's chalk it up to a new waitress? or one is pretty aloof to life. I usually get the martinis here. Mango is my favorite. They are all pretty strong, so I start with a sweet one first then go for a stronger one. The margaritas are also very strong here (probably the strongest in the short north from what I have tried).

Man, the white trash were out last night in the Short north. I think it was because the Beerfest had just let out but regardless there should be some way to filter out the bohunks from the normal people. There were these 2 trashy floozies on the dance floor making out and these two old guys were taking pictures of them. creepy fo sho. I'm pretty sure they were hookers off craigslist too crowded and too many meatheads. some big redheaded viking kept grabbing on this girls butt I was with. I was also told there was no TP in the ladies bathroom. save your $. The only reason it is getting two stars is because it was pretty amusing to see the neanderthals dance and grind on one another. chabba.

Went here for a few drink and there was no one but myself at the bar. 6pm on Thursday. Yea I don't have the keys and wander in there. Good pours and bar staff knowledgable about different drinks. I would go back there in heart beat.

I see why the reviews for this place are low. The only reason i went there was to meet up with some friends that were in town from the ATL Yeah, it's on the cap, it's pretty, everyone there is pretty, music's bumpin... I get it. I don't remember the prices since i drank to much before i got there, but the one shot i ordered was made wrong. Ya know oh well, it was like 1am and my friends were dancing around having fun. I met some new people that i could talk to on the patio (since that was the only place you could talk..) The music was actually good songs, but they would change to the next song after 1.5mins. That drove me nuts! It was also so loud in there that i couldn't talk to my friend that i haven't seen in a while. Everyone else looked like they were loving it. So maybe it was just me..

The crowd here is implied in its namesake. Most similar to Bar Louie but on a smaller scale and capable of being more annoying. This place has a soft spot due to the multiple law school mixers that I attended here on Thursday nights where all our drinks were something crazy like $1-$2 each and we got free appetizers. Obviously, the group that put this together most likely ponied up some money upfront. With that said, you can probably get good deals/rates for events here. The pizza is CRAZY GOOD and their appetizers are surprisingly good too. They have fun martinis - like ones rimmed with pop rocks. Last time I was here I ordered the turkey peach melt that supposedly had peach chutney on it but I definitely did not taste anything peach, which was a bummer. I didn't say anything because I got it during a bar crawl and we were leaving for our next bar within minutes. Ended up abandoning my leftovers at Char Bar (sorry about that).

Bar 23 was actually one of the first bars I went out to in Columbus. I was living in Chicago at the time, and Bar 23 had just been opened a week when I came to visit some friends. We went and had high hopes that it would continue to be as great as it once was but after returning a few years later, I see that it hasn't. The cocktails are actually really good - decently priced, fun flavors (fun, but nothing intricate like Mouton), but the crowd leaves something to be desired. When I overheard the girl next to me say she was a poly sci major, I knew I had to get my 30-year-old self out of there. This is the place that the OSU kids come and play when they want to get away from the Gateway. I get it, but I'll stick to my go-tos.

I went here after work for a quick drink with a coworker that needed to be brought down from a major mental breakdown. I had dinner plans before the symphony so this was a perfect short stop in between a pretty packed Friday evening. The interior reminds me of a college student's dream post-school apartment. Totally Ikea and totally overdone. Nevertheless, the happy hour is kick ass. My coworker defused over $5 martini's and I scored a $3 Long hammer IPA. The beer selections are well thought out; a variety of lagers and magic hat for lightweights and a good selection of bottled and tap beers for hop heads, like myself. The menu is unremarkable and EVERYONE at the bar, including myself and my coworker, was eating the same thing: garlic chips and spinach artichoke dip. The garlic was a nice touch but I found the chips to be oily and the dip looked a bit canned. So much so that I could not bring myself to partake. Bar 23 is a good place for a stopover drink in between other plans and not meant to be a main event.

I've been here a couple of times, it's average. First for a group function, which was catered, and their pizza was delicious. They also had drink specials for us that night, but their prices aren't bad anyway. On a weekend it's obviously crowded and loud, but the service is quick enough if you can get to the bar and they have Yuengling on draft. The atmosphere is decent, it seems classier than going to Brothers even though it's pretty much the same type of crowd. They have a couple of tvs, usually with sporting events on. My verdict, I'll stop by for a drink or two when in the area but not spend every weekend.

OK for real no joke went in here on Wednesday around 11:30pm and but for the loud music you could have heard crickets chirping. I mean really there were no more than 10 people in the whole place. I am sorry I am super f ing confused. This place is like packed to the extreme on Friday and NO ONE goes during the week. This is just too much. I am missing something big time.

Screw this place. Myself and 20 of my friends recently purchased NYE tickets to this bar. The ticket sales were limited and each ticket got you free appetizers and unlimited drinks for the night. Now here we are, the Tuesday before NYE and they have decided to cancel the deal and offer refunds to everyone who has already purchased a ticket.....Now everyone in our party is so upset that they all refuse to go to Bar 23 for NYE and the foreseeable future . Smooth move Bar 23! Way to anger 20 potential return customers before even visiting your establishment....

I'm sort of surprised that I'm only the second person to review Bar 23. It's not a popular place in the sense that people talk about going here primarily for a night out, but it's a happening spot in the Short North where many people, including myself, will occasionally stop in for a drink or two during Gallery Hop or a walk towards the Park St. bars. I've actually never come here for more than two drinks. It's either a stop on the way to other bars or on the way home. But there are definitely some people that love this place. I don't think it's bad but it's not all that exciting. It's in the Short North on High St. across from Poplar Ave. It's part of the establishments that make up that trendy area in the Short North right before you get to the Convention Center, and they all look the same on the outside. They all look new and expensive. Maybe that's because I know that this space is shared with the likes of Hyde Park. It's also right next to MoJoe lounge, and sometimes I get confused because I think it's part of it. It's all almost one big thing - MoJoe Lounge with Cup O Joe inside it and Bar 23 is up in there somewhere. You'll see what I mean if you go here. But I'm only talking about the Bar 23 part. As far as the bar goes, it's pretty good. They have a nice selection of top-shelf liquors because this place is pretty trendy and can be pricey. But they do have good deals every now and again. For example, they often have a chalkboard sign out front on the sidewalk listing happy hour drink specials and deals on appetizer foods like wings, quesadillas and pizza. One time we stopped here on our way to a concert walking to the LC Pavilion, and we all got some rum and cokes for $2 each. They were pretty good-sized and a little stronger than I expected. Our bartender was also really cool, watching us as we played our game "rum and coke" where we race to see who drinks the fastest. Ah, drinking games. But this was early in the evening when they were still pretty slow. If you come here on a weekend evening it's really packed, especially in the summertime, and then the service isn't all that great since they're so busy and you can tell the bartenders are frustrated and want to go home. I like the look of Bar 23 - it's simple yet modern. The walls are empty for the most part, but the decor is unique - I like the spiky lights hanging from the ceiling. There are plenty of tables and chairs inside (although maybe not enough when it's crowded) but everybody loves the patio. Out in front of all Bar 23, MoJoe and Cup O Joe are patios where you'll find most of the crowds during the summer. The patio is really nice and there are usually a lot of people out there with their laptops using the free Wi-Fi. There are also TVs inside. I do like this bar, but it's never been able to hold my interest for that long. And if you don't come here during happy hour, it gets pricey - $3.50 or so for a Bud Light. But it's not not bad for a quick stop in. Although I'm still confused about if it's really a separate place than MoJoe. Either way, it's all pretty much the same.
