We had a group of 10 people for dinner. All of staff was incredible nice especially our waiter Matt. He handled everything so well. The filet was one of the best I've ever had. We will defiantly be returning.

I had initially shyed away from this place because of some initial bad reviews. What a mistake. We totally enjoyed our dinner here. The food was very nice, the atmosphere casual, but upscale, and the service was very attentive (maybe just a touch too much so). Anyway one of us had the crab cakes and the other the trout almondine, and both were really well done. The wine list was limited, but with a few interesting alternatives. Overall, we'll definitely be back, especially given the several on-line offers ( Restaurant.com , Yelp, etc).

Lump crab cakes & free range chicken were wonderful. Amusing Shiraz & Pinot Grigio to wet our whistle! Great service and live musician. Ah Columbus! A great place for a communication studies conference!

My wife is a steak freak, and I love seafood. 89 Fish & Grill was the best we've had of each in Columbus. Great location downtown near Arena District, complimentary valet parking, classy setting, excellent expedient service, best cocktails I've ever had (felt awhile harding tasting alcohol), fair portioned, and food to die for... like literally worth killing over lol

This was a really good fish restaurant. Food was top notch as was service. The variety of choices was wide and exceptional, and creative. All three diners enjoyed their meals. The ambiance is nice and clubby. Definitely recommend.

My boyfriend and I came to have a drink at 10:10. The door said it was not closed until 11:00 and so did the website and Yelp page. But they were locked up and chairs were on the table. Very disappointing..

Delicious seafood, beautiful presentation. Specifically, the oysters and salmon were excellent. Overall the service could have been a little better (forgot to bring out waters and bread but he apologized) and it's more on the expensive side but it was worth it. I highly recommend this restaurant.

Since Ohio is landlocked I've never been overly impressed with any seafood restaurant in town. This is my new favorite. The staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. The cocktails (at least the old fashioned) were top notch. And the food was both inventive (duck wings, chorizo crusted scallops) and delicious. This is our new go to seafood place in Columbus.

Fantastic. We sat on the patio and it started to down downpour. The staff immediately offered to move us in, but we stayed and they brought us our delicious meal of 3-4 appetizers and drinks. Will be back.

We ate at 89 Fish and Grill a while back (Valentine's Day several years ago), but went back this week for Restaurant Week. We made it just in time for our 8 pm reservation. There were two groups waiting, but one wanted to sit on the patio and the other did not have reservations so we got seated. I thought about trying the crispy halibut cheeks for the first course, but they were out (must mean they're good/popular?). We both went with the corn ravioli instead. The waitress said that was the best appetizer choice. The plate consisted of a pool of creamed corn with a couple ravioli, 4 shrimp, and some andouille sausage. The corn was awesome and fresh tasting. The sausage added some spice. It looked more like chorizo (crumbly) than what I would expect from andouille (tiny cubes). Tasty either way. The whole shrimp/sausage/corn combination reminded me of shrimp and grits. For our main courses, I ordered the crispy skin striped bass and my husband had the prime NY steak. My fish was very simple--the bass was placed in a pool of broth above roasted fennel and garnished with a few small potatoes. The fish itself had a delicate texture and a mild taste. The broth was also mild. The steak came with potatoes, cooked greens, and some sauce arranged across the plate. The steak had some fatty parts, but was well cooked and tasted fine. The sauces were really good, and slightly sweet. I ended up eating all of the greens from his plate--he said he didn't care for "soggy greens." For dessert, I chose the olive oil cake and my husband chose the cheesecake. Both desserts were excellent. I think I ended up liking the cheesecake more and my husband liked the olive oil cake more. We split them evenly. The olive oil cake was sweeter and came with a vanilla sauce. The cheesecake was very tangy and paired with a tart blackberry sauce. It was supposed to have a lemon flavor, but I didn't detect it. All in all, the food was excellent and the sizes were perfect for a three course meal.

An overall good experience. Free Valet was good since it was downtown and parking is limited to the street and expensive garages. We sat down and ordered two signature drinks. They were stiff, the way I like it, especially for $10 a pop. We started our meals with an appetizer, calamari. The calamari was lightly breaded and fried along with a few banana peppers on top of marinara sauce. It was drizzled with a tangy cream sauce. This wasn't the best I have had but it wasn't the worst. I opted for the pear Salad along with a bowl of seafood chowder. My husband ordered the Salmon Oscar style. The pear salad was creamy, tangy, savory and crunchy. Great flavors going on! The seafood soup was a nice size. I threw a few oyster crackers on top with some fresh black pepper and BAM! Deliousness! The creaminess didn't over power the soup but complimented it. There were chucks of seafood and potatoes throughout. Great choice. The salmon my husband had was perfectly cooked. Huge serving of crab meat on top with a creamy, lemony sauce. The overall experience was good but didn't think it was the best we have had.

Hmm . . . so I am a vegetarian and fish place is not such a friendly place for us vegetarians. Looked at menu and talked to waiter. Decided on a salad ravioli apitizer minus the the shrimp. Order came and it was weird. First it was just one tiny ravioli with two tiny pillows. That was it. Then it had a slight fish smell and taste making me think the waiter just plucked the shrimp off the plate. Then the waiter was fine except no sense of humor. I just think you can do better elsewhere.

In a recent Talk thread, the topic of underrated restaurants came up and 89 Fish & Grill was mentioned. I must now agree. I never heard of the restaurant prior to last week, but I walked away pleasantly surprised after my first visit. We came for their Happy Hour, which runs between 4 to 6 pm Monday through Friday. For their drink specials, they have $3 craft beers, $5 cocktails and house wine. The cocktails are a fantastic deal since they are normally $10. I ordered their "Warehouse Old Fashioned" which was excellent. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered a second one. It is a little on the sweeter side, compared to most, but it's very drinkable and one of my favorites in Columbus thus far. Its ingredients include: Knob Creek Rye Whiskey, bitters, Luxardo Maraschino liqueur, sweet vermouth, a burnt orange peel and a cherry. My date enjoyed her Bloody Mary. We ordered a variety of their Happy Hour appetizer specials including the "fresh-shucked" oysters ($1.50 a piece) along with their "Angry" Mussels and the Hot Crab Dip. Everything was delicious. I particularly enjoyed their mussels and West Coast oysters. They offered both West Coast and East Coast oysters. I found the West Coasters sweeter, while the East Coasters a little more briny. Their homemade mignonette and cocktail sauce also helped to elevate the oysters. Pretty addictive cocktail sauce. Sounds weird, but it's true. We ended up staying long enough for me to get hungry again so we split the Crab Crusted Tilapia, which was amazing. It was served with asparagus and garlic-herb mashed potatoes. Without requesting it, the restaurant split the dish into two separate plates for us. I found that to be a thoughtful and nice touch. Overall, 89 Fish & Grill exceeded my expectations. I enjoyed all the dishes and drinks. I enjoyed my experience here much better than my one-time experience at The Pearl. I thought the oysters were better and the overall atmosphere less stuffy. The service was on the slower side, but a huge democratic party convention came in shortly after we arrived, so I can understand. I will definitely be back. Solid 4 stars, maybe even 4.5 stars?

Appetizers are good. Oyster hour is good. Then it's all downhill.. Luke warm food, very small portions, mediocre service. Not worth $30 a plate. Probably won't be back.

I don't know why I haven't reviewed this place before because it's my go to happy hour place. I love the $1.50 oysters, the $7 mussels, and the $5 old fashions. The atmosphere is very nice, classy, never too loud, and they have complimentary valet. The raw oysters are always my go to, they're fresh and nicely shucked and the vinaigrette is fine. The "Angry" mussels in curry broth chorizo has a little kick which is appreciated and mellowed out by the broth and is delicious. The old fashions those deserve a 5 stars, I LOVE the old fashions they make here. However and whoever makes them they are strong and delicious. Also, the last time I was there I asked for some bread and the bar tender kindly obliged and brought me out 3 pieces with some killer herb butter. **much appreciated**

Greg the bartender was knowledgeable and well versed in his food and wine. Friendly and fast service, at the bar. Clean and exceptional service. A bit pricey, but the quality of the food was on point.

Thus far my favorite seafood place in Columbus, superior to Columbus Fish Market and the Pearl, and food on par or better than Mitchell's Ocean Club. Atmosphere is great with a quiet setting, with plenty of sunlight. Has a great wine selection as well, service was superb and Eric our server was incredibly attentive, as was the other staff. The oysters were very fresh and of good quality, I had a dozen of the East/West coast mix, the angry mussels were excellent and the sauce was great for dipping bread into. The shrimp cocktail was excellent as well as the shrimp were huge. The scallops with truffle risotto were excellent, with the truffle not overpowering the sweet scallops. The sea bass over shrimp dumplings were amazing, unlike anything I have had before. The kicker was the Olive Oil cake, which I would have like to have brought twelve home with me.

Maybe the 6 of us just didn't like the menu but this place sucks. Forgot a crab cake added to a filet dinner. Filet sent back because overcooked. Server was terrible. Never cleaned table. Never even provided a glass for bottle of water he sold. No one liked their food so maybe we just did not like their preparation -- but you cannot excuse terrible service on a slow Saturday night. None of us will ever return.

I don't know what this place hasn't been more crowded on the occasions I've been in for dinner. I've eaten here about half a dozen times over the last year and a half, sometimes at the bar solo and sometimes with folks in the dining room. I haven't any complaints. The service is attentive and everyone is friendly and pleasant. The food is very good, and I love the Caesar salad - it's presentation is unique but also delicious. The wine list is good and the prices are very good. I think the menu is very interesting, and haven't tried anything I wouldn't order again. Also there is a happy hour menu with smaller portions of the standard appetizers which is worth stopping in to check out.

Everything I had read on yelp regarding this place was 100% accurate. The staff was nice, service was great, food was mediocre. We tried the scallops and the calamari appetizers. Neither were great and I would say compared to something you get for $6 at a chain restaurant. The entrees ordered were filet mignon and bacon crusted salmon. The salmon was very good and well cooked. The filet was correctly cooked but lacked any flavor and basic seasoning. For desert we ordered lemon mascarpone cheesecake that was dry and average and a apple cinnamon creme brule which was fine but seemed like it would fit better in October not April. Overall the bill came to $105 without any alcohol. It felt more like a $70 meal. Nothing about the experience blew us away. Our server was great but I feel like I would rather spend that kind of money somewhere I know will satisfy my taste buds.

We were a party of five celebrating a special occasion and had all reviewed the menu in advance. Being from the south I had high standards for both raw oysters and seafood. We were all pleasantly surprised. We started with cocktails. The martinis had hand stuffed blue cheese olives! We sampled the "angry" mussels and combo east/west oysters. FANTASTIC! Our entree choices included scallops, sea bass, salmon and cioppino. All were fantastic! Desserts were shared and we tried the cheesecake, the pumpkin cannoli and the Apple stack cake - my favorite! The prices was reasonable and our server TIA rounded out the experience. We will return :-)

We were there for New Years Eve. The staff was very attentive from the front desk, bartender to our waiter. We all had the Sea Bass stuffed with Lobster. It was amazing. I can't wait to go back.

Just had dinner here with my husband. We are leaving quite disappointed. We had reservations. When we entered the door, the host said he'd be right with us. He said that 4 times. When we finally got seated, it took a bit for our waiter. He was kind and helpful, answered our questions. My husband had the oysters, I had the scallops with truffle risotto. The oysters weren't shucked well but tasted average. Not exceptional. The scallops were borderline in edible. The truffle risotto had a good flavor, but the risotto was pasty. Our waiter didn't even ask how the food was or anything. We will not give this restaurant our business again.

89 fish and grill is a nice casual seafood restaurant in the arena district. The decor is casual --- wooden tables and chairs. They claim that the fish is flown in fresh everyday and indeed the seafood was very fresh. We ordered the freshly shucked oysters that were recommended by the server and they were quite good. My son wanted the crab dip and it was delicious as well, a different taste than most places, less heavy and good. For dinner I had the bass which was cooked in a wonton soup type of broth with wontons on the side. It was flaky and delicious. My wife ordered the Arctic char which was excellent as well --- extremely fresh although a bit overlooked. My son had the wagyu burger and it was cooked just right, juicy and delicious. The burger came with an abundance of seasoned steak fries, not possible for any normal appetite to consume, so they went wasted for the most part. The wine list is very limited. I had the cab and my wife got the merlot. Both were pretty decent. The service was good and efficient in a somewhat impersonal way (no complaints though). They have valet service, which was really helpful in the rain. All in all a good experience. I'd be happy to visit again.

I went to the restaurant few days ago with my friends. I really enjoyed the environment there, which is good for chatting during dinner. And someone in the restaurant would help you to park the car. However, I was not satisfied with the waiting time for our food. I understood that we had seven people at all and all dishes would be put on the table if they were all prepared. But, I think we waited for more than half an hour, and we all fell hungry and boring. Actually, the food is great. I loved the lobster and salmon meat. They were super delicious! I would recommend the salmon to everyone! I think I would try 89 again.

Chef Bill is the best thing to happen to this establishment. He is creative, thoughtful, adventurous and we need a place like this in Columbus. He has elevated to quality of ingredients and has really impressed me.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday in January. The food was delish, the service was awesome, live music was great, so there isn't a valid reason that we haven't been back. There are lots of great places to eat in Columbus, but I give this one a high recommendation. Maybe he'll read this and take me back! :)

Scallops were done perfect and the crab cake was standard, but the sauce made it very delectable. My husband had the shrimp cocktail and the swordfish and really liked both. We are from California and I am a foodie, and we have pretty high standards for restaurants, enjoying our best restaurants in Napa and the Bay Area. The Bonet for dessert was FABULOUS!!!!

This is a "hidden gem" tucked in just off of Nationwide Boulevard. The food here is excellent, and the atmosphere is great! They have an outside patio if you are visiting in the summer months. I've been here several times, and have been pleased with the food and service on each visit. It's a great location for a date night!

Visted recently for the first time after an early performance of The Nutcracker. I was impressed. Started with the mushroom Napolean. Great flavor, though a bit heavy on the salt brought it down a bit. Also enjoyed the herbed butter and bread with it. I ordered the Pork Pork Pork, which was medallions of pork tenderloin topped with pork chees slices, carmelized bacon with apples and cabbage, and puree of celeriac. All were fabulous. Especially loved the bacon and cabbage. My lady had blackened Tilapia, which she thourgoughly loved. She really loved the garlic-herbed mashed taters. To wash it all down, had a viognier that was heavy bodied enough to go with everything. Didn't do dessert as I had made something previously-Next time. Our server, Whitney, was cute and charmingly knowledgable. Great end to a wonderful night.

Went here because it was a part of the Prestige Dining Club. We were not disappointed! My husband and I enjoyed the BEST old fashioned We've ever had, a bit pricey at $11 but definitely worth it. We enjoyed the "angry" muscles as an appetizer. I had the marinated sea bass which was excellent. Service was good, and so was the music and atmosphere. They have complimentary valet parking which is great especially in the winter I'll be back as this place looks like it would also be a great happy hour spot. A bit pricy, but delicious food.

This restaurant gets a lot of hype in all the columbus magazines. Mostly advertisements. Our server was fantastic and attentive, but only after she arrived to our table which was close to ten minutes after being seated. Ordered their signature old fashion which was mediocre at best. Appetizers were calamari and fried oyster sliders. The sliders were fantastic. The calamari was nothing special at all. Meals were 6oz filet and half stuffed lobster combo. I was expecting a lobster tail covered with a some sort of seafood stuffing. Instead it's a half lobster shell filled with mushrooms, claw, and tail meat in a sauce. Not very exciting. The filet was ordered medium rare and came out medium. No pink at all. I was very disappointed about that. I ordered a Manhattan for my last drink which came out tasting like straight bourbon with a grocery store cherry in the bottom. Which I've never seen in a Manhattan. They should have used the real cherries they use for the old fashion. I asked the waitress if it was a Manhattan or bourbon on the rocks. She assured me it was a Manhattan. It definitely was not. Overall I felt the food was mediocre and the drinks were so-so.

If dinner had been a Top Chef competition, the chef would have packed his knives and gone last night. First, the chicken in my chicken noodle soup (a special) was so dried out I ate around the pieces. Second, my wife's Arctic char was inedible. One piece was completely dried out and the other was extremely fishy. It came with risotto that was so over salted that she couldn't eat it either. The waiter comped us dessert but should have comped us my wife's entree.

Very good service, very good food, great drinks! They mixed a proper Moscow Mule, in the copper cup. The angry mussels were by far the best mussels that I've ever had anywhere. These are a must try!

Great staff - very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Bright open space with lots of natural light. Somewhat hidden front amongst the convention center area but free valet, a nice touch. Food is B- at best. primarily a seafood centered menu, you would expect strong execution here. Not so. Oysters (east coast) shucked on happy hour $1.50/ea. mine were not properly separated from the shell. And there was little liquor, likely due I spilling during shucking since they seemed relatively fresh. Mignonette was great but God oysters don't need it. These did. All fried dished corn meal based - which is fine except you taste the cornmeal more than the dish. Big difference vs standard summertime fried seafood in New England (who def has the edge!). Happy hour specials limited to mostly crustaceans, which is fine but am offering of some pub grub would go a long way. Stopped here on a business trip. Probably would not return. Not terrible. Not great.

I came here on a Friday night. It was a typical Ohio December night: freezing. The complimentary valet service was great especially since the garages in this area are far away on a cold night. It wasn't too busy for a Friday night. My girlfriend and I were seated at a booth table near the bar area. The booth was so big, we could have each brought a sleeping bag and slept there. We noticed it was very loud in the bar area which is to be expected but it was hard to hear the waiter. Luckily, I'm an expert lip reader. First the waiter asked if we wanted any winks from the bar. We did not. We reconfigured the way we were sitting and it was much easier after that and I only have happy memories from here on out. We got the angry mussels as an appetizer. At first I didn't think they were spicy enough. But I guess it was a slow anger because by the end my lips were burning. They were very tasty. I ordered grilled blackened swordfish which came with mashed potatoes and vegetables. It came out perfect. The fish was well seasoned and the portion was huge. It melted in my mouth like an angel made of butter. The mashed potatoes were fantastic. I would eat just those all day every day until I become so far that I take up the whole booth. My girlfriend got the cioppino. I've had this San Francisco dish in San Francisco before and it looked much better here. It had a little spiciness to it and was full of delicious looking seafood goodness. She would order it again. About halfway through some guitar player started strumming some Muzak Christmas tunes. I felt like the food was an excellent value for the money and I'm already planning on coming back as I had a hard time deciding what to order because everything sounded great. They also seemed to have a nice patio area.

I've been here three times and have not been disappointed. The service is always good and the fish is very fresh. The decor is rich in color with deep wood throughout the bar and dining room. For appetizers, I recommend the oysters mix plate, calamari, or New England seafood chowder. The chowder earned it's name because every single bite is filled with delicious seafood. I've had the pan seared Arctic Char, which had a crispy and salty skin that was delicious. You can't go wrong with the crab crusted tilapia, which is served with a rich sauce. I recently spoke to the owner on a flight back to Columbus and he was a very nice and humble person, glad to support this local business!

First time here, the place and decor is nice. Our service ended up being quite horrible. We got the drink order in pretty quickly with the apps. Drinks came and were very good, however, it took over an hour to get the appetizers. We actually had to remind our server we were missing one, she brought out a crab cake while we had to wait for the last app they forgot to make. Our meals took two hours to get, and weren't that good compared other seafood places with similar prices. Our service was horrible, we only saw our waitress 4 times in the 3 hours we were there. We actually got up from our table twice to find her, so we could place our orders. She also brought me a drink I never ordered and when I told her about it, she gave me a disgusted stare instead of just apologizing about it and taking it away. I won't be back, I wasn't that impressed.

Just had my first two visits to this restaurant this past week. I was in Columbus with my S.O. for a conference and our hotel was across the street. Wanting something close to our place, and we love fish, so we decided to give it a try and we have a new favorite place now! We loved it so much we went two nights in a row, getting the scallops both nights. They were fantastic - prepared perfectly, melt in your mouth tender with not a trace of sand. I tried both scallop dishes, the risotto is pictured. EVERYthing was fresh and flavorful without being salty or over done. We celebrated my birthday with a complimentary chocolate torte that was to die for! One serving was more than enough for the two of us.... but we ordered it the second night as well! Can't recommend this highly enough. Try the patio, despite the not so scenic view, if you get past what's beyond the patio, the flowers, music, lighting creates wonderful ambiance.

89 has fantastic scallops with risotto. When you go there try the scallops, you won't be disappointed. We also tried the crab dip which is a great shareable appetizer. My boyfriend ordered salmon with crab on top with mashed potatoes. The crab was so good. I think the salmon could have been seasoned a little better, but the mashed potatoes were very fluffy and delicious. We will definitely be going back for round 2.

Seafood in Columbus? Yes. Cool feeling restaurant an the seafood was great. Bar was awesome. Had a bourbon and coke and the wife had a White Russian. A little pricey but it was made perfectly. Mussels for appetizer. Mussels were a little on the smaller side but the sauce and bread were perfect. Dinner was salmon for me---good portion. My wife had scallops. Hers could have been cooked a little more but still very good. Service was great and the manager checked in which was nice. Not too pricey either.

I love how farm-to-table restaurants are mainstream and affordable in the Midwest! Was staying a few doors down at The Lofts and came here with two coworkers for dinner. We came a little before 9 PM so it wasn't crowded, but there were a good number of people still eating. It was a bit chilly, but our waiter kindly turned the AC and fan near our table down. All three of us got the Pear Salad, which was unbelievably delicious! I was going to ask for it with no cheese, but the waiter told me about how the cheese is locally made and delicious so I decided to try it. I am glad I did because I've never tasted cheese quite like it. The whole salad was fresh and amazing and definitely the highlight of my meal. I then had the Seared Sea Scallops, which were perfectly grilled and seasoned. The portions here are pretty big and I wasn't able to finish all of the risotto that came with the scallops. Good thing I didn't try because I then had to get the restaurant's favorite dessert, the Bonet Piedmontese. So confession, when the menu said custard I thought that the dessert was a frozen custard though it's actually a baked custard type of thing. But it was still good and quite rich. I highly recommend checking out 89 Fish & Grill and if you do, don't forget about the Pear Salad!

My fella and I had a great experience here -- Great service, delicious food. We had a few requests for substiutions that were met without hesitation. The presentation is lovely, and portions are appropriate to take some yumminess home for later. Oh, and the lemon marscapone cheesecake is crazy good.

I really enjoyed this restaurant. We had the clams and the shrimp cocktail for appetizers and they were delicious. For my entree I had the grilled yellowfin tuna and it was cooked to perfection. The drinks were a little pricey for the product. If I go back, I will not order a cocktail. The moscow mule I had was mostly ice and yet it cost $11. Stick with wine!

I've been here twice & both times the service has been great & personable. I've worn dress clothes & jeans and didn't feel under dressed. The menu has great variety & everything I've had has been wonderful. The oyster sliders are a great app & the balance if oyster/slaw/ sweet tangy is spot on. Also the angry mussels were delicious. Definitely recommend if you are n the mood for seafood. Great laid back atmosphere.

The food is delicious and prices are a little lower than similar type fare. The chef's flavor combinations make a wonderfully unique dining experience. I just tried this restaurant a couple of weeks ago and I will be back. Server was efficient and friendly. Loved the sake marinated sea bass, truffle risotto, sea scallops... Oysters were fresh and delicious. Foie gras was average, everything else was exceptional. Highly recommend this restaurant for anyone who knows and loves great seafood!

Why had I never heard of 89 Fish and Grill?!? I've driven /walked by it a bajillion times! Anyway, now that I know how wonderfully delicious it is, I'll be back! It's a comfortably classy place right outside the arena district, very convenient to most parts of town. They offer valet, but there were plenty of meters right out front. We had the duck wings for a starter- super crispy and saucy. Lots of flavors going on here. You gotta get 'em. Served with an interesting jicama mango slaw. For our meals, neither of us got seafood: I ordered the wagyu burger, my date ordered the free range Ohio chicken. Both were ok, nothing exciting though. The burger was cooked perfectly for my taste- I usually order medium, knowing that most places cook it a little more than that, so it was just barely pink right in the center. The 89 fries were delicious- more like seasoned wedges. The chicken was very moist, fall off the bone tender, but lacked flavor. The star of the meal: the seafood chowder! When we return, we will surely be ordering this, and will most likely go with seafood entrees as well. The chowder was chunky, just the right thickness, and I sopped up every last bit of it with the bread, then wanted more! At the recommendation of our server, we ordered the warehouse old fashioned and a moscow mule. Both were a little sweeter than a drink I would make, but they were still very well balanced and delicious. Oh, and the bathrooms have mouthwash. Something we both noticed. Go. Eat chowder!

This place is OK, not the best service I've ever had but alright I guess for this small-town, rural city man spending the week in the big city on a business extravaganza. One thing I like about 89 was their atmosphere seemed lively and upbeat!! However, my wallet felt a little lighter upon leaving once I dropped 45 dollars on one appetizer and an entre. I know I had that meal on my company's dime, but if I had the choice between spending 45 dollars on myself or treating my family for a nice dinner at maybe a reasonably priced restaurant, I'd opt for the latter. One more thing, their service was sub-par, I saw my waitress maybe twice the whole time I was there and it seemed like some other foreign guy kept refilling our drinks and brought our food out while our waitress was daydreaming on obviously nonchalant about customer service. She did give my the bill afterward and collected that money, but I guess I just expected more for this price.

I always have the most amazing meals at 89. I had the Sake Sea Bass and as always it was delicious. The flavors in this dish are so omplex and we'll put together. The restaurant is very classy and comfortable.

Awesome happy hour with a decent selection of local beers and delicious seafood. Crab dip, oysters and bloody marys are great.

Well, since moving up to Columbus from Florida, I've been looking for a restaurant that offers fresh seafood and I think I finally found what I'm looking for in 89 Fish & Grill. They have complimentary valet parking which we made no use of. Nevertheless, complimentary valet parking in the Short North, y'all! Anyway, we made a reservation and visited last night only to be greeted by name at the door, how nice! After a brief wait we were shown to our table where a courteous server greeted us. For our appetizer we tried the angry mussels and they were oh so good! Seriously, if you like spicy, I cannot recommend these enough! The only down side is that their house bread left a little to be desired. Granted, I'm not a bread fan to begin with, but if I order mussels I want some deliciously soft bread to dip in the broth. The butter for the bread was delicious but that's really of no use if you don't like the bread, in my opinion. Anyway for our entrees I ordered the swordfish and honey ordered the sea bass. Being familiar with swordfish, I knew what to expect for the fish. What I did not expect, however, was the interesting pairing of the tuscan white beans. And I suppose I may have, after reading the menu, but I figured I'd take a chance - bad choice. I ended up really not liking my dish and sending it back - I know, I KNOW, how annoying! However, for someone who's never enjoyed sea bass in any preparation she's ever had it, honey's sea bass certainly converted me. It was so delicious and tender, it kind of just melted in your mouth. The Asian broth and dumplings were the perfect pairing that I never would've imagined would complement fish so perfectly. So, after sending back my swordfish and asking for the sea bass entrée instead, the server so kindly informed me that this dish took the longest to cook. He went so far as to offer to have the kitchen prepare TWO fresh sea bass entrées so we did not have to eat individually but we were ravenous and decided to just share the first meal while the second was prepared. Nevertheless, the intent was there and 89 Fish & Grill definitely gets major kudos for their superb customer service to a typically annoying customer. The person who I assume was the manager took pictures of us at our request, confirmed that the second order of sea bass was just as good as the first, and fist bumped us on our way out. In short, this place offered everything I love: excellent service and excellent food without the additional frills and fanciness that you'd expect from most restaurants offering this. I am so looking forward to satisfying my seafood cravings here in the future!

I've eaten at this restaurant many times and have always had a wonderful experience. The oysters are GREAT for being served in the midwest and the cocktails are always perfect. Even once when they messed up a friends dish, they were very apologetic and prompt to fix it.

Great food and ambiance - there's a good selection on the menu, and it's very cozy and comfortable. However, be ready to settle in and make yourself at home, because you're going to be there a while. Our host and waitress were both very nice and apologetic about our wait (despite reservations, we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table of 6). From the time we were seated, dinner (plus appetizers and a salad) took about 2 1/2 hours. The most painful of those hours was the one in between ordering and receiving our entrees. Again, our waitress was very apologetic. The Arctic Char was excellent; others had filet, crab cakes, chicken - all seemed to enjoy their meals. In summary - a great place, but don't go starving or in a hurry.

Man. It is hard to give this place 4 stars, but the food was really completely excellent and I don't think I could live with myself if I only gave it 3. We tried this place at 7:15 on a Saturday before a 9:00 movie. Plenty of time to enjoy a nice meal. We had a reservation. It was not needed. Very dead. Hard location, me thinks. We ordered a bottle of wine (nice), raw oysters (very good- spectacular for the Midwest) and shrimp cocktail. Then we waited, and waited. After about 20 minutes, the waitress comes over to inform us that she forgot to add in our entree order. Doh! Now I was a server for a lot of years, so this has happened to me on more than one occasion. Easily forgiven. We got plenty of time- plus we all ordered seafood and the place is dead. How long could it possibly take? Another 30 minutes, you say? It is becoming more unforgivable. Plus, I am half in the tank at this point from the wine and lack of food. And we have 30 minutes before the movie starts. But, this place did everything right to redeem itself. For one, the food was lovely, really really excellent. Everyone's meal was perfect. I know because, I tried some of everything. Next, the waitress and the manager profusely apologized, comped our appetizers, offered to get us a cab so we could make our movie, and gave us cards for a free complimentary appetizer on our next visit. It is well worth another visit.

F&G has potential. Solid atmosphere and menu and... ok staff (they try hard but get easily distracted). The menu was really interesting. I liked what I saw. But unfortunately, the execution left something me wanting to talk to the chef. The scallop foie gras was tasty (really great flavors) but messy. I wasn't sure how to eat it. It felt more like a stew rather than a potentially elegant and tasty experience. The swordfish sounded delicious. I asked to have it prepared as the chef recommended. It ended up over cooked, charred really. Hope that's not what he likes, let alone wanted. On to dessert... feels pre-prepared. Bummer. The potential is here/there. I'll try one more time in a month or so, after that......

So disappointed. Came here as part of my "2014 restaurant week tour" and was not impressed. Ordered calamari as a starter and the breading was weird... Definitely didn't taste good quality. For the entree I ordered a filet cooked medium, my friend ordered a filet cooked well done. Long story short they switched up the filets and we didn't realize it until after we took our first bite. When we told the server - he was like "oh - I mean did you just eat a little bit" and implied that we should just swap steaks. Um no. This isn't TGI Fridays. So I told him that he needs to take the steaks back and try again. No apology... No trying to fix the situation. I had to ASK him to bring menus in the meantime, so we could order food as we had another person in our party that was eating her entree alone. I then asked to speak to the manager. Again unapologetic. Didn't offer a solution... And was getting smart with me. I should've listened to my coworkers when they told me today "yeah that place is the worst". And it showed. During dinner service today it was EMPTY (attaching a pic). They got 2 stars - 1 for the Creme broulee we had for dinner and 1 for the valet guy who was hustling in the rain. Won't be back.

My husband and I came here with my brother-in-law and his wife for her birthday. We were immediately seated for our 6pm reservation (on a Friday) and our server was extremely friendly! He walked us through everything, was very attentive and we felt very well taken care of. We ordered drinks, appetizers, main courses and desserts and every single thing was AMAZING! A gentleman came around to see how everything was going, turns out he was a managing partner. He wished my sister-in-law a happy birthday and gave her some flowers. Everything about this evening was amazing and if you are going soon, get the Sake Sea Bass and the chocolate torte. As the birthday girl said, the chocolate torte was like eating baby angels. Sounds kinda weird but it was like heaven in your mouth. Thank you to everyone at 89, we had a great evening and will be back soon!

When my boyfriend and I got out on date night, we very rarely opt for a seafood joint. Not because we don't love seafood(WE DO!), but it's just not something that comes first to our minds. Also, living in the midwest, we don't get the freshest seafood and it's usually expensive. So when Restaurant Week Columbus, my favorite foodie week in my favorite city, rolled around, we decided to give this place a shot. And we were glad we did. First of all, I love the building this restaurant is in. It's an old warehouse and the outside and inside are both gorgeous. I would love to have a fancy party there sometime. The bar area was beautiful and speaking of the bar, the cocktails are FABULOUS. My boyfriend had the Warehouse Old Fashioned, which had burnt orange peel that gave it a strong orange flavor and a fancy Luxardo maraschino cherry, which is a regular maraschino cherry kicked up a million notches. I had the special cocktail, the Ghost Cosmo made with ghost white whiskey and it had a chunk of dry ice in the bottom so the whole thing bubbled and smoked while I drank it. And it was pink, so basically, the perfect girly summer drink. Now, the food was incredible. With the Restaurant Week menu, we each got an appetizer, a soup, and an entree. For starters, I had the oysters rockefeller. They were HUGE oysters and so creamy and rich. Boyfriend had the calamari and it was not at all chewy or tough, which so often happens with squid. It came with fried banana peppers and a spicy tomato sauce. We both then had the seafood chowder. I don't even really know what was in it, but man, was it good. For the entrees, he had the grilled swordfish. I had never had swordfish, but I tried his and it was almost like a steak, really meaty. It came with a sweet and salty eggplant capanota and Tuscan white beans. I had the crab cakes, which were AMAZING. So filled with big chunks of crab, fried to perfection, and served with a mustard beurre blanc sauce, creamy garlic mashed potatoes, and fresh veggies. I ate every single bite and even if I felt gross and stuffed after dinner, it was worth it. I can't believe we haven't come here sooner and I can't wait to go back. It was a nice little romantic spot I thought too, so if you have a date to impress, try it out. Love love love.

My fiancé and I went to 89 fish and grill for the first time tonight and had an impeccable experience. We had Whitney, a very attentive server, who we enjoyed conversing with about many things through out the evening - she never once made us feel rushed. From the appetizer, to the entree, to the dessert and coffee nothing could have been done better. This restaurant absolutely does the best fish in columbus! I am a Columbus native and a foodie at that and this meal didn't disappoint in any facet. Whitney ended our evening out with a very kind gesture and I would suggest anyone going in to give her a should as she was an amazing server! If it hasn't been made obvious by this post I would suggest natives, tourists, newcomers and foodies alike to come try 89 fish and grill! You won't be disappointed!

I went to 89 two days ago for a friend's birthday. We arrived at 7, ordered drinks immediately and within 15 minutes, our group of 8 ordered our meals. Our drinks came in a reasonable amount of time, but an entire hour later, we finally received our appetizers... that is, everyone except the one that my date and I planned to share. After waiting another hour, we finally received our entrees. The food was good, but pricey considering the horrific service-- and this was on a Tuesday in the middle of summer and the patio was totally empty! They were certainly not overwhelmed with patrons. After waiting 2 hours for our meals, I was irritated and we got our checks soon after. As predicted, our nonexistent appetizer was still on our bill, but our server was quick to take it back and make sure that we weren't charged for it. The server was kind and attentive, so I believe that the terrible service lies within the kitchen staff and the food runners. Your money would be much better spent elsewhere if you're going to pay their prices and receive such poor service.

Very overrated. Foods was average at best, service was poor. Had reservation, but they were clearly overbooked. Arrived half hour early, explained that we had tickets to a show at the arena, and sat at bar. Waited 15 minutes before bartender acknowledged us. As we had drinks, the restaurant went from half empty to completely full except for one table that remained empty. Mean time, the Couple next to us at bar had to ask multiple times if/when the food they ordered would be out. We were Finally seated 35 minutes past reservation time at the table that had been open since we arrived, and only after asking hostess repeatedly. Ordered as soon as we sat down, told food would be about 20 minutes. 30 minutes later, told food was "being plated" at that moment. 20 minutes after that, still had not been served. Were late for our event as a result. I worked in restaurants while in college, and understand how things can get backed up on busy nights, but this was very poorly managed. Will not be back!

Thought the good was quite good and liked the menu selection. However, it was a little pricey and incredibly slow service. It took around an hour from the time we ordered until the time we got our food. It was a Saturday evening and they weren't even at half capacity so it's not like the kitchen was swamped. So if you don't mind an extra long wait for your food, the atmosphere is nice and the drink selection is good.

I was staying across the street at the Drury Inn and decided that I would love to have some seafood for dinner. I wish I had resisted the urge. I let the waiter talk me into a cup of chowder and that turned out to be the most excellent part of the meal. The chowder was creamy and thick with wonderfully prepared (not overcooked) vegetables as well as several decent pieces of clam. For the entrée I chose the salmon Oscar. The dish was beautifully arranged and came with asparagus and mashed garlic herb potato. The salmon was extremely hot so it took me a few minutes to be able to sample it. When I did I was put off by a cloying liquid texture. I began to wonder if there was olive oil used in the preparation. The fish simply didn't feel right in my mouth. The waiter was attentive and asked about my meal, but I could not describe what was wrong with it so I persisted. I think that was a mistake. Three hours later my stomach is quite uncomfortable.

Went to 89 fish and grill for restaurant week dinner lately. Let me start with the good: my reservation was held and we were promptly seated (granted it was a 5:45pm reservation), great draft beer selection and taste (compared to other bars in the area carrying the same draft beers), good appetizers ( had angry mussels and a salad). Vibe and general atmosphere was pretty good as well, although quite noisy and on that night, a live guitarist In an awkward corner that no one was really paying attention to. The not so great: inattentive server with long wait times between courses, entrees were pretty bland, scallops were not fresh, mashed potatoes were good but so heavily buttered. Desserts were mediocre, the taste was pretty regular. Creme brulé was bland, chocolate torte was rich in chocolate; both were presented pretty poorly though. I would not have chosen the chocolate torte if I had seen it at first.. Turned out okay though.

After reading the previous reviews we decided to try 89 fish and grill to fulfill my seafood craving. Our entire experience from start to finish was excellent. They provided complimentary valet service, we were promptly seated for our 6:45 reservation, and our waitress, Colleen, provided superb service. We ordered two appetizers (shrimp cocktail and the angry mussels), two entrees (the filet with stuffed lobster and the seared sea scallops with risotto), and three desserts ordered to go (pumpkin cannoli, lemon cheesecake, and bonet Piedmontese). Everything was exceptional, we will definitely be back!

The restaurant was alright, but not great. We did go on a Saturday night during a hockey game and during restaurant week. I'd like to think those things contributed to the poorly cooked calamari we received for an appetizer. The idea of the calamari is great and had good flavor; just terribly chewy and tough. I ordered the scallops with the brussel sprouts. Again, the flavor was good, but the texture of the scallops were not; chewy and tough. Overall, I would probably try them one more time at a time they aren't so busy to see if things were improved. I do think it is a little overpriced for the quality of food.

I went here for a date with my husband for our one year anniversary (living in Columbus, not married, we are at 10 years for that) He bought the $40 for $20 yelp deal to suprise me since I love fish. It was fairly empty for a friday lunch and we got a nice booth. The decor is about the same as before but I like the upgrades all around, especially the booths. The lunch menu is much better priced than dinner, especially since the portion are rather small. We actually ended up with 5 entrees between the two of us and it wasn't that much. I had the chicken cobb and my husband the ceasar to start with. I had asked for no chicken on the cobb if they would take off the $4 it costs to add it for other salads. If they would charge full price without it my husband would eat it so to please put it on the side. Salad arrived sans chicken and I was told I would not be charged for it. Turns out I paid the full $12 for my salad while my husband at $6 was larger and beautifully arranged. The 89 vinagrette I had was great, he also did not put the bacon and cheese on the side like I requested, oh well.... I had the quinoa primavera which I was expecting more from, portion and taste wise. It was supposed to be with asperagus, tomatoes and balsamic onions, where I was hoping for larger pieces not tiny cut up somethings, there was something green...didn't taste like anything really. I also had the grilled salmon with veggies of the day which were very dry carrots, peppers and onions, the asian bbq was horrible so I asked for the lemon infused oil, not any better so I would up sprucing it up with my leftover salad dressing. The salmon was tasty, a bit burnt but fine. $10 for this is totally acceptable, $20 at dinner would have been steep and still the cheapest fish option. My husband had the burger which was exactly how other reviewers noted, dry and overcooked, on a very stale bun. He asked for it medium, it was past done so he was pretty unhappy with his meal. I would have rated it 4 stars but the fact that my husband did not enjoy his meal and I got charged $12 for my salad and got no chicken it was a bit dissapointing. The

Sea bass was outstanding. The oysters were not fresh shucked which was a disappointment. The article char was not very good and lacked flavor. The valet parking situation was a disaster. They lost my keys and I had to walk over a mile "looking for my car". Not a good ending.

Service: Nice staff especially the front host. I don't head over to this restaurant all that often but they remembered me from a month of so ago. Recommendation: Cioppino, Oysters, Salad (Remember to double check your orders with the waiter as they oftentimes forget - I ordered a salad with no cheese, allergies, and dressing on side. The salad came with cheese and dressing already tossed into the salad).

We've been to this downtown gem twice now. Both times we were not disappointed. Everything we have had has been delicious. The service is consistently top notch as well. Of particular note is the quinoa side that comes with the swordfish. I have to say, I have never had quinoa prepared as well anywhere. Delicious and healthy. You can't beat that combination. One additional plus is their free valet parking. You will appreciate this since it's directly across from the Convention Center and street parking could be a challenge. Don't forget to tip the valets. While the parking is free, these kids depend on your tips!

This place was ok, but I don't think we will be coming back. The food was hardly average, and for the price, I would have expected it to be a little classier. The bar is right in the middle of the restaurant, which gives the entire restaurant the feeling that you are in the bar (and there are TVs through which increases the undesirable 'bar feel'), happy hour is only available at the bar and not to the people sitting at a table (which seems completely backwards since people eating a meal will spend more money and should get happy hour pricing), the interior design was a little childish, and the food was ok. My wife's salmon was great, but the way the food was arranged on the plate looked like something I could get at Macaroni Grill. I had the sword fish (which I normally love), but it felt like I could barely force myself to finish it. And it was served with an enormous helping of beans! Way too many beans! The price of food is probably due to the large quantity they serve, and not exceptional quality. There is free Valle parking after 5 which is nice, and the staff was friendly, but compared to other restaurants in the same dollar range, I can't understand why anyone would choose 89 Fish & Grill. The 4 star review most be from over-zealous yelpers.

We arrived after the Sunday NCAA games and before the tornado warning; so we were locked in for 2 hours instead of 30 minutes. It turned out to be a great experience. The place was about 3/4 full with other people in the same predicament. We all settled in together to watch the storm blow through. We wanted snacks and we were particular about what we wanted; a fish sandwich. It was only on the lunch menu, but the chef fixed us up just perfect. Everyone went out of their way and it was a pleasure to see that from a restaurant. I know they are new to the downtown scene, but if they keep this up, there is no reason why they won't succeed. Christine was great at the bar and Ashley was great as the dining room manger. Bravo!

We started out here with drinks and appetizers during happy hour. It was great. We went from here to another place for dinner close by. We were very disapointed in drinks and so we left and went back to 89 fish and grill for dinner. We had an old fashioned and the drink with grapefruit. Both were great. When we returned for dinner my husband had the Sword fish I had the crab cakes. They were both great. The flavor if the sword fish was phenomenal. We had a great waitress and our bartender from happy hour stopped by our table to welcome us back. This place is awesome. We strongly recommend.

Visited for a group business dinner. I ordered the salmon which was okay...standard restaurant salmon fair. I saw someone mention the mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant potatoes. I don't know if I'd go that far, but they were bland and dry. Service was great and attentive. I don't know that I'd rush back, but given some of the options in the convention center proximity, this is a better choice than most.

Hubby and I took three family members here. I made the reservation via Open Table. There were (supposedly) no tables for 6:00, so we went at 5:30. I did notice, however, that the restaurant was only about 1/3 full at 6:00. Hmmm... First of all, all the people we came in contact with (hostess, waitress, bartender) were very friendly and attentive. No problems there. I got the seafood chowder, which I thought was really tasty. Hubby got Angry Mussels. I don't do mussels, but he loved them. Dinner companions had various salads which they reported were good. My entree was the grilled herb-marinated mahi-mahi. Now I'm not a raw fish lover, so I appreciate fish that's actually cooked. However, this was undeniably overcooked. All I could taste was the char and the herbs. My dinner companions, though, all really loved their entrees. Maybe I just got the clinker, I don't know. I did love the salted caramel martini, though I have a weakness for the sweeter drinks. I would return for a happy hour appetizer/drink kind of thing, but probably not for a meal.

I recently found 89 and wow, am I glad I did. I am in Columbus several times a year on business and a coworker recommended this place a couple of trips ago. I have been there three times now and this is going to be one of my dinners every time I am in town. The fish I have had has been very well prepared, and the waitstaff has done an excellent job of serving us without being too pushy or too present. If you like seafood this is a place you will want to check out.

Had a restaurant.com coupon to use for this place & we're glad we did because the food was good but not worth the prices they charge. The 89 salad was delicious, my boyfriend's mushroom soup was also very good. I ordered monkfish which I've never had before & it was good but the "crustacean foam" was completely unnecessary. The surf & turf that my boyfriend ordered was disappointing though. It was the smallest half lobster & mostly stuffed with "stuff", not lobster. His steak was decent but nothing outstanding. Nice atmosphere, we didn't have to wait at all on a Saturday night but that was thanks to a night OSU game. All in all the food's good but for the money I've had better in Columbus.

Nothing that great.. Environment: Very nice open floor plan with a cool bar. It's a very pretty restaurant--but they got no chef to back it up! There was hardly anyone here on restaurant week, and it was Thursday down town Columbus..... Food Quality: There was no wow factor. I went here for restaurant week and the calamari was good but SOO salty, clam chowder was not much better than from a can, the crab cakes I guess heated up nicely the next day, and then the "crab encrusted" tilapia was sole slapped on top. Then the sides, the mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. Everything was just really, really salty! The desert was good. We all had creme brulee. The people cooking the food didn't even know about restaurant week. Im pretty sure whoever runs this place spent too much money on make the place look good that he/she cannot afford to pay for a chef, so he/she just hired cooks from a Bob Evans/Ponderosa to come in and cook the frozen food they bought from some "Executive Vendor" and the cooks just good and MAYBE add a touch of creativity. My friend over heard the cooks talking and none of them even knew what restaurant week was, nor did the know that the restaurant that they work for was apart of it. NEWS FLASH-clearly there is no one in the kitchen coming up with the menu! Just sayin' I dont think it will last too much longer. Price: We had good prices, but we went there during restaurant week, so I don't know what regular prices are. I have a $40 for $20 coupon, but I don't even know if I will make it down there to use it before it expires. There are just way too many places in Columbus I want to try that I might not make it back. Food Drink: These were really good!! Just don't get the Malbec. The Carmel Salty martini-SO good! My Zin was really good, and the old fashion was good. I actually might use my coupon on drinks here! Plus, the bar is kind of cool! Service: Great waitress! Since desert was included in our meal she gave the birthday boy a free drink, instead of the typical free desert! They were so fast too!

This was a great restaurant! The food was incredible. The crab crusted tilapia was cooked perfectly and out of this world. The cream sauce, asparagus and mashed potatoes were wonderful accents that made the meal enjoyable. Every dish that came out of the kitchen also looked scrumptious. Service was great, and the manager Mary Beth went above and beyond to make the experience excellent. 89 Fish & Grill is a quality place!

Friends suggested we go here, having recently seen a favorable Dispatch review. We agreed. Moments before they arrived I thought "I'll just check Yelp.". Uh oh. Yelp-ers hated it. Too late, 730 on a Friday night and we were committed. Well, long story short, we glad we went. Our food was excellent. My husband and I both ordered the lime grilled swordfish. It was an enormous piece of swordfish in a refreshing lime and mint infused sauce. It was on abed if quinoa which was fantastic. My friend and I shared the strawberry salad and half was plenty! The greens were fresh, the salad was not overdressed and the strawberries were firm yet sweet. The table shared a calamari appetizer. I'm not a fan so no first hand report but my husband and friends gave it a thumbs up. Our server was attentive but not overbearing. The place is loud! We arrived at 745 on a Friday night and the large bar area was packed, probably folks from after work. By 815 or so things quieted down a lot. Give it a try. We will return.

Hands down, five stars alone for the one place that can cook a steak well done and perfect each visit! The service is always awesome, friendly and knowledgeable, and the food is just great. It's even better that it's an upscale type place/food but casual dress.

Just had a great dining experience at 89 Fish and Grill on Nationwide Blvd. our server's name was Colleen, and I would recommend requesting one of her tables when you go. Extremely professional, knowledgeable and personable. The food was very good also, highly recommend the seafood chowder. Atmosphere was upscale casual, but the food and service was fine dining quality. Very positive experience and we will definitely be returning.

When my fiancé and I decided we needed a date night we found 89 Fish & Grill. I called & made a reservation, but getting a table ended up not being a problem because of the snow storm that no one else wanted to venture out in! I don't know if it was because we were one of the only people there, but our service was fantastic! Our server answered all of our questions & was incredibly friendly; we'd never had oysters before & decided to be adventurous! The drinks were great, but you can't really mess up wine, my fiancé had an old fashioned & love it. For dinner I had the New England Seafood Chowder & the scallops & they were both divine! Although our whole meal was a little pricey, it was well worth it. The manager even came over and introduced himself & even got our car from the valet for us. Great experience & we'll definitely be back for our next date night!

Went on Thursday with fellow Longaberger friends. Great food. Fish was all good as well as crab cake appetizers and desserts. Wine was pretty good too. Suggest reservations but they got us right in and out.

Tried this newer restaurant out for Mother's Day. I had a reservation but had to wait for the rest of my guests but the hostess was very friendly and accommodating. The place had a nice set-up to it with the square bar being the central point of the restaurant. The place was not overly busy but had a few large tables due to the day. Our server seemed a little overwhelmed and the service lacked a little. The menu was nice and the specials looked good. Portion sizes for the price seemed a little steep but right in line with other similar restaurants I would have to say. They did have a nice touch of a free dessert for Mother's which was a cornbread shortcake which was delicious. I would recommend getting this dessert if it is available.

A great place to eat in downtown Columbus. The food and cocktails are fantastic. Mark is a stellar bartender. If you need a place to eat for a business outing this place is it. It's also laid back enough for late night dinners and drinks. I had the mahi-mahi dish and the sole roulades were excellent. The chocolate torte for dessert was a bit lackluster, but we still have yet to try the other sweets on the menu.

Id give the food a three but everything combined? Nope! The menu was pretty small actually, I had the lobster crusted tilapia but I really didn't taste lobster... And somehow, not much tilapia. I think the crusting, which was more like a stuffing coating was all I seemed to gather. And that came with 6 half pieces of asparagus and a lump of plain mashed potatoes for $21 without tax :( disappointed because I was hoping for a lot more as far as quality, taste, and price

I agree...nothing great. I think I will just make a list: 1) We came for our 7pm reservations and we were told that they were just clearing off a table. Fine...15 minutes later we were told that we were 3 for a table. Just weird and the restaurant was not even full. 2) The waiter didn't even offer us drinks. We had to ask. 3) It took forever to get bread 4) We placed an appetizer order and the waiter would not take our entree order. 5) Our calamari appetizer was chewy and bland. 6) The waiter steered me away from an entree that I wanted which ended up being so much better than my very bland talapia with dried out bread crumbs. 7)The waiter never came back and check to see if we liked our food. 8) I didn't really like my food...I ate my husbands. 9) Three hours later we were out of there having had a very expensive meal.

Attended Happy hour on a Wednesday. Appetizers are half off and there are $5 cocktails, wines, and $2 draft beer. Pretty good deal. I shared the seared scallops with truffle risotto, calamari, oysters rockefeller, and the crab cake. All were delicious but the scallops and crab cake definitely stand out. The crab cake was full of crab (what a concept!). The scallops were cooked perfectly and the truffle risotto was a perfect match. They have free valet parking. Cocktails were unique and delicious. Service was great. We will definitely be back and can't wait to try the rest of the menu.

I came here on the last night of Restaurant Week with my mind blank. The reviews are so mixed that I didn't want to have any preconceived notions. I can see why they're so mixed! We were seated right away and the server was at our table in a timely manner. We ordered drinks and she left. She came back ten or 15 minutes later and we still didn't have drinks. We ordered our food and she realized after she walked away that we were still without beverages. She apologized and said she'd be back with the drinks. Then our appetizers came and we still didn't have drinks for another 5-10 minutes. I was pretty confused as to why our appetizers came before our drinks, considering there wasn't a large amount of people in the restaurant. There was a convention of some sort that came in about 30 minutes after we sat, but we had ordered our drinks about 25 minutes before they showed up, so that's not really an excuse. My crab cake was amazing. It was definitely the highlight of the meal. The sauce was spicy and flavorful, but not overpowering. The spinach that was served with it was cooked perfectly and added a nice freshness in contrast to the rich crab cake and sauce. I ordered the cioppino as my main course. It came less than ten minutes after the appetizer, which I thought was strange, but I wasn't complaining. It was described as having scallops, shrimp, calamari and mussels in a tomato broth with orzo. The orzo was scant (at best) and there were a total of 3-4 shrimp and two scallops. I hate scallops, so that was fine. The shrimp was severely overcooked and the mussels needed to hit the gym (see what I did there?). The broth was really good; it had a nice kick and a sturdy flavor profile. The highlight of the main course was the garlic bread. The bread itself was rubbery, but I dipped the bread in the cioppino and the red sauce mixed with the garlic butter was fabulous (I'll dip if I want to). I'm not sure if they do a smaller portion because it's restaurant week and you're only paying $30.00 for three courses, but I sure do hope that's the case. They need to bulk up on the orzo and work on getting better quality, better prepared seafood. I don't want to make a big deal out of the quantity of food until I find out what the "normal" portion is like. However, a seafood restaurant should know how to cook seafood. My dining companion said her fish was perfect, though, so there's that! The chocolate torte was disappointing, but it didn't sound appetizing to me from the start. I wouldn't have ordered it, but they were out of the crème brûlée and did not offer an alternative dessert option to replace it. It's a great location and a pretty building. They have a nice patio. Their wine list is less than stellar, but they don't list the locations of the vineyards. I didn't realize how picky I was about Chardonnay until I saw their wine menu (what can I say? I know what I like!). I sort of felt like a giant douche bag, but it's a pretty nice restaurant, and not inexpensive. One would think they would have put some time and thought in to the wine options. Service was spotty throughout the evening, and she just seemed uncomfortable and harried. I don't know if she was just extremely busy, but I only saw her with four tables...maybe she had more that I couldn't see. The manager was helping her quite a bit, but didn't seem interested in helping her with our table. At the end of the night our server lost her train of thought saying good night. She apologized and said "It's just been one of those days". I've been there, I served throughout high school and college, so I know how it goes. I would definitely go back and give it another shot. They had a pretty interesting menu all together and I think they have a lot of potential.

Good food & friendly service, nice atmosphere, more fine than bar I'd give 5 stars except some portions a bit small for the price Manager QUICKLY corrected to our complete satisfaction a mistake in an entree . Appetizer of rare tuna was prepared perfectly. Seafood chowder's only problem is I wanted More!

I took my friend here last night for his birthday and was very excited to give it a try. I made a reservation for 7:45 and we arrived a few minutes late. We ended up waiting about 15 minutes for our table not because there were guests still dining, but because there was not enough staff to properly bus the tables. The hostess was very nice and apologetic and even chipped in to bus the table herself so that we could finally sit. From the hostess area, we could see that there was a large party waiting to sit and their table was sitting empty and unbussed the entire time we were waiting. The hostess bought us an appetizer, which was nice, but it was a bit too easy and they have prepared cards, it seems, to give out. This leads me to believe that they give out a lot of free food for lack of preparation or poor staff planning. When we got to our table, our server was clearly "in the weeds" but she took the time to address us. It took several minutes from her to come back with our water. She told us that they had run out of water glasses and the manager had to wash some from her. She took our drink order and we ordered our comped app (a Really, Really good crabcake) plus some oysters (super fresh and the shallot dressing and cocktail sauce were excellent). We could see the bar from our seats with two bartenders. They were both moving super slow and taking time out from mixing drinks to chat with the staff and the few people sitting at the bar. Our apps came out in just a few minutes, but we were still waiting for our drinks. The bartender switched the garnish in two of the martinis so my friend got a dirty martini with orange and I got an orange martini with olives. We asked to have them remade and they did not come back until after our soups and salads were delivered. The seafood chowder was very good and interesting with added whitefish. My friends ordered an apple, pear and walnut salad to split and when it came to the table, it was only a plate of greens with no dressing or apples, pears or walnuts. The server apologized and took it back and off of our bill. The entrees arrived. The "just grilled" salmon selection with shallot butter was cooked perfectly but bland and uninspired served with mashed potatoes (like about 95% of the other entrees). My friends who ordered the tilapia with crab said that it was very good (but also served with mashed potatoes). I selected the seared scallops (I am not a big fan of scallops but it was one of the few entrees that came with something other than mashed potatoes). The scallops were seared perfectly, but the dish was lacking overall. It had a bunch of overly sweet pear butter sauce really tasted like sugar. The root vegetables and Brussels sprouts were underdone and unseasoned. I was thankful for not having to have mashed potatoes, but instead had crunchy (in a raw way) roast potatoes on my plate. Since it was our friend's birthday, we selected a creame brulee to share for desert. The server assured us that it was the best desert. It was truly awful. The custard was not set and once we broke the sugar shell, the "custard" was runny and had separated. I really have to hand it to our server though (I wish that I could remember her name). She was sabotaged from the start by management for the poor staffing and planning, the host staff for over seating her, the bar for being slow and incompetent, the bus staff for being nonexistent and the kitchen for generally sucking. She was super professional and compassionate about our experience and was able to get the manager to discount the entire bill a little. If I had a restaurant, I would hire her away from this place in a second. She gave us some more of the prepared free food cards for next time we come in (if we ever do). Also, when my friend ordered a second drink and asked if it will take as long as last time, she actually waited at the bar to ensure that the bartender made the drink in a timely manner. I am a bit upset that she had to tell the manager about our experience in order to get the manger to discount our check, but the manager did not take the time to address us. Overall, the food is meh and not worth having to deal with the incompetency of most of the staff and the management. I am giving it two stars rather than one due to the delicious apps and the fact that our server worked really hard to overcome the mess she was given.

My dinner here was pretty average. The food was decent, but the ambiance is doesn't work. It seems like a remodeled chain restaurant trying to be fine dining. For a Friday night there was an odd mixture of business travelers, out-of-towners, and families. This makes sense for the awkward location. The service was spotty as well. However, if I was staying at the Hyatt, I would be happy with a decent dinner and drink in walking distance.

Initially visited because I had purchased a Groupon-type voucher that needed to be used. Specifically went during happy hour to try their specials (advertised as 4-7pm M-F), however, we were seated in the dining room. When we asked the waitress what the happy hour specials were, she said, "Oh, I'm sorry, that's only for the people sitting in the bar area." Seriously??? We literally were sitting 6 inches away from the bar. So I told her we would like to move to the bar area (note-the restaurant was not crowded at all on a Tuesday evening, there was more than enough free tables.) When she realized we were serious, she quickly changed her tune and told us that she could give us our first round of drinks and one appetizer at happy hour prices. Weird and annoying, but whatever, that's all we would have ordered anyway. As far as the food, it was mostly quite good. We ordered the calamari as our appetizer. The flavor was quite good, but the calamari was slightly on the chewy side. My husband also ordered the seafood chowder as a starter, and the taste was good as well, but a little too on the brothy side for me to consider a chowder. For our entrees, he had the crab crusted tilapia, which he enjoyed. I had the lump crab cakes, which were quite good as well, although the crab itself seemed more of what you would get out of a can that what you would get fresh. (They were considerably lacking in "lump" crab meat). Both entrees were plated attractively, the vegetables were very crisp, steamed perfectly, and colorful. For dessert we split the lemon mascarpone cheesecake, I'm not much of a cheesecake eater, but my husband enjoyed it. The manager/owner? also made the rounds and found out we were there celebrating our anniversary, and quickly made a point to comp our dessert, which was a pleasant surprise. Overall, we would come back to this restaurant. The food itself was tasty. The service was quite good.

Atmosphere wise it wasn't"t what i was expecting. Kinda big huge bar with a two man singing team...live music good though. So one star for the feeling. Felt like a place where they were glad i came and they all wanted names or my name anyway great host manager and waiter. So one more star for that...and now to the food i didn't like the duck wings- barbecue sauce made it bearable. I will stick to chicken wings. We ordered chorizo scallops and asked for them to fry the tilipia (rather no crab crust). They handled the special order quite well bringing forth a cornmeal battered fish and it was quite tender inside. They can fry fish! The chorizo with jalapeno- i thought would be too spicy and as well i asked; not at all, actually i barely tasted jalapeno and the chorizo was lightly located in the mustard greens- the corn was exquisite. The scallops were on par with Columbus fish market; quite excellent. I give them a total of 4 stars for the price and affordable gourmet... I must return

I swear we went through some customer service wormhole and entered into a different universe. We arrived around 6:50 for a 7:00 reservation. Whitney came over to explain the happy hour specials (though they were out of many of the items) and we ordered 2 drinks and an app, all 1/2 price. She mentioned that happy hour ends at 7pm. After about 15 minutes, she comes back to tell us that the button for happy hour went away on the server screen and she cannot honor the prices. We ordered these items before happy hour, but by the time Whitney went to put them in the computer it was 7:03 (it says so on the receipt.) We explained to her why this was funny to us, and asked to talk to the manager so that the prices would be honored. She said it wouldn't be a problem and she would handle it. My martini came out with regular green olives, even though I ordered it bc it was listed as blue cheese stuffed. Whitney informed us that they were out of 'pre-stuffed' olives, but she could bring some cheese out 'if I wanted it." I assume to stuff the olives myself?! By the time the check arrived, we thought we were in an alternate universe. The happy hour prices were not honored as promised, and we had to go to the hostess stand to try to talk to someone but no one was there. Whitney ended up following us, and adjusted the receipt...(why didn't she just do this in the first place?) I honestly don't even remember what the food was like because the customer service was so jarring and unbelievable, it was bordering on comical. We won't be back. It's a shame bc we were extremely excited about a new seafood restaurant in the neighborhood.

I went to 89 Fish the other night with my family since we decided to try something other than our regular favorites. The result was a bit mediocre. The restaurant was mostly empty the night we went yet we still had extremely slow service. I enjoyed the appetizers and salads we ordered. Unfortunately we had gotten almost entirely though the appetizers by the time the drinks came. Everyone was fairly happy with their entrees. I ordered the scallops which were good and came with some sort of basil and goat cheese mashed potatoes. The potatoes were alright but they were almost cold when they arrived. Overall my experience was fair. I had a decent meal but it wasn't anything spectacular or memorable and I most likely will not be back again anytime soon.

This place has the worst seafood in Columbus. It is a failed attempt to emulate other area restaurants such as McCormick & Schmick's or Columbus Fish Market. The recipes here are just unseasoned garbage. I ordered an Asian salad that came out wrong. The food was tasteless and barely had any dressing on it. The entree came out and was also disappointing. I would not suggest eating here.

The Good: the food was well prepared, and the restaurant offered discounts for staying at a nearby hotel as well as being servicemembers. The Bad: service was slow at our table which the server kept making poor excuses for, and they took the liberty of giving me "Asian-style" barbeque sauce when I asked for some... really, just because I'm Asian American??? I'm not in Columbus often, but I'm not inclined to revisit this restaurant when I do.

My hubby and I along with 2 other couples went to 89 Fish and Grill for the first time yesterday evening (1-24-14) due to Restaurant Week. We had made a reservation for this outing. All of the wait staff we encountered on our way to the table were friendly and said hello to us. Our waitress name was Colleen and I just want to give a shout out to her. She was professional, yet very friendly and personable. We all ordered drinks and I can tell you the bartender does not skimp on the liquor. I had the Warehouse Old-FAshioned and so did a couple of friends. The others had the Native Savour and the Tito's Moscow Mule. Eveyone declared their drinks delicious. For my food and desert choice, I had the Pear salad, crab crusted tilapia (yummy deliciousness) mashed potatoes and asparagus and Bailey's Creme brûlée. My husband had the New England seafood chowder, filet mignonette and 89 chocolate truffle torte. He's really picky about his steaks and he could find no wrong in this one, he enjoyed every bite and I had to stop him from ordering another one! that's how much he loved this steak. Everyone enjoyed either the pear salad or seafood chowder, the Seared sea scallops with the risotto ,filet mignonette or the crab crusted tilapia and the deserts. Basically, we all enjoyed everything we ate. There was not any murmurs of discontent with the drinks, food, or desert and we all exclaimed we will return again soon. The atmosphere was conducive to just sit back and relax and enjoy each other's company and laugh and talk, which we did. Kudos once again to Colleen and the rest of the friendly wait staff we encountered. thumbs up to a truly great and tasty dining experience. We'll definitely be back!!

We went there last night for Val.Day dinner. Very disappointed. We had purchased a certificate for $25 to spend $50, so that did soften the blow a little. The food was poor quality and waaaay overpriced. Seems like a bar and grill trying to be upscale. The server greeted us, handed us a menu, talked about the special Val.Day choices, and walked away. No drink order? Came back and asked if we had any questions. No, by this time we were ready to order. Instead she took a drink order and walked away. The place was nearly empty, as our reservations were early. Not sure why she did it this way. Salad and Lobster Bisque was good. So far so good. Bread was very boring. Slices of plain italian loaf, with the usual crusty leathery texture. When she removed our soup and salad plates, our butter knives disappeared. So much for the bread and butter. Then the entrees. I had the seared scallops. Very bland, pale white, and not browned as you would expect. Strange flavor. Texture tough and chewy. Served on a huge bed of risotto, way more than seemed reasonable. Possibly just to fill up the plate. Asparagus had a nice flavor. I ended up mixing each mouthful with all 3 items just to create some flavor. My better half ordered the sea bass. Very unhappy. Very strange flavor that created a burning sensation in the throat. Wow. What is that? The server offered to replace with something else. Good idea. The NY strip was much more edible. Dessert was good. Creme Brulee and Chocolate Torte. Needless to say, won't be going back there. Cost was $120 with tip. Wow.

I admit - I was dubious! After all, I am from CA now and previous to that, OR. So the idea of a fresh fish place so far inland caused me to doubt. But we can't get walleye on the west coast so I was willing to give 89 a try. Boy, am I glad I did! I came in by myself on a Sat. night around 6:30. Not too crowded,, even after an OSU game. Immediately liked the upscale yet relaxed atmosphere and the warm welcome I received. Started off with one of my face wines, King Estate Pinot Gris (ok - so maybe I live in CA my heart is in OR!) then had the 89 salad - wonderful combo of interesting mixed greens, bleu cheese, bacon, tomatoes, Bermuda onions and the house vinaigrette - very healthy portion. Then I got the walleye but subbed the sides to try the risotto ( spinach and marscapone) and grilled asparagus. All was great though the walleye was a bit dry - but that could be because I requested it simply grilled. It normally comes with a lemon butter sauce. Other than that, a memorable meal. But what really capped it off for me was the $20 for $40 deal on Yelp that I found while I was there! I downloaded the deal to my phone and was able to use it on the spot! The best Yelp deal I have ever gotten, and definately the best one for my visit to Columbus! Thanks Yelp and 89!!!
