disappointing on many levels. i will give them another shot and hope that i just chose the wrong flavors, but it was not an exciting cupcake experience. the girl working behind the counter was really rude. i asked her to tell me about the flavors in the "sunday morning" cupcake and she acted completely bothered to have to tell me. i chose the lemon and rasberry cupcakes. both were decent cupcakes, but the icing was AWFUL. the lemon: heartbreakingly disappointing. i am a lemon cupcake enthusiast. i think they should be bright, light, and taste incredibly fresh. the cupcake was okay...but nothing sets the actual cake apart from something you can't get out of a duncan hines box. the icing, a cream cheese lemon icing, was WAY too heavy and completely weighed down the cupcake and made it far too sweet. the rasberry: the actual cake was better than the lemon. it has some of the seeds in it which made it seems fresh and really nice. but this icing was DISGUSTING. the flavor was synthetic, too sweet, and the texture was like whipped icing out of a can. all in all, the service sucked and i wish i hadn't spent $7 on cupcakes. i will try them once more, but there are FAR better cupcake shops in lakewood and rocky river.

I was drawn into Colossal Cupcakes because of a sign outside that read "warm cookies". I have no willpower to walk past a sign like that, so before I knew it I was behind the counter inquiring about cookie flavors. Unfortunately they had run out of the Reese's flavor, and only had s'mores and a nothing but the kitchen sink option. I choose the latter, which included chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, pretzels, and a few other things I couldn't name. The girls behind the counter were really nice and heated the cookie up for me, but even heated up it was disappointing. For having some many different add-ins, there was very little flavor. I think the idea is cute and I liked the set up of the store! You could easily picture a group of friends sitting on one of the pink couches or at the table, eating cupcakes and having a great time. That being said, I wouldn't order the cookies if I went back again.

I hate when I can't give places five stars! Walking in, the place is super pink and fun-looking (love that) and the cupcake display looks awesome! So many to choose from and they are ENORMOUS. I wanted to order the hot-chocolate which is 1 of 5 drinks on their big billboard-sized menu but the girl working told me it's no longer offered and it has been that way for a while (whatevaaa). I picked the confetti cupcake topped with pink frosting-- something as festive to match the store decor, obviously. I took my first bite and was immediately disappointed. First of all, the cupcake was crumbling all over just one bite in, and extremely dry as if it had been out for a few days. I prefer the Pillsbury Funfetti cake-box mix way more over this. As much as I wanted to like this place, unfortunately it's not a winner for me.

We had the Boston Dream and Snickerdoodle cupcakes. Delicious! Cleveland is lucky to have this gem in their downtown.

Oh my, what awesome cupcakes. They have so many flavors, the fillings are great, icing is fluffy and tasty, and the cake tasted fresh. We would definately come back if we were in the area.

Ok so its a cupcake. It is bad for you. It is expensive. Its bad for your teeth. It has no redeeming nutritional value. Who cares!!! Its cupcakes!!!! This is a fun place. They don't have a lot to choose from but what they have is great. I got the red velvet and it was rich!!! They even make cupcake shakes from your favorite cupcake. This is in a super hip section of downtown.

Colossal cupcakes look and smell amazing to start. However once you decide on which cupcake you'd like to sink your teeth in, that's when you realize the cupcakes are neither the best or worst you ever had. Their simply "middle of the road" let me say this, the cookie monster tasted great, but the cupcake itself was dry and not moist at all I'm guessing this was made a day or two prior. I also had the peanut butter banana cupcake. Normally banana is a very potent flavor and will normally dominate anything its paired with. This however is the rare exception! I personally didn't taste banana at all and really just tasted peanut butter really. Really disappointed by something that looks so darn good! Colossal needs to work on their flavors and moisture of their cupcakes and maybe they'll gain some fans for sure!

This cupcake kind of sucked. I wouldn't recommend it. It was dry and the icing tasted like it came from a can. Pillsbury called, they want their icing back. The environment was pretty tacky as well.

I stopped in on a whim after dinner on the way back to our hotel. I got a chocolate peanut butter cupcake and it was just okay. Definitely nothing to write home about and it was on the dry side but I attributed that to it being late at night and it probably had been sitting in the case all day.

To sum it up: I ate one bite and threw the cupcake away. Starting at the beginning: My friend and I were downtown and decided to check this place out since neither of us had been before. The inside appeared clean and we were greeted by two friendly young ladies and a full case of cupcakes plus more sitting on one of those industrial tray racks. The abundance of cupcakes immediately surprised me because it was 6pm on a Wednesday and usually bakeries sell out of most of their goods by the evening, it also made me wonder how long the cupcakes were sitting there and what would happen to all of them at the end of the night? I let these thoughts slip my mind as I tried to focus and pick from the large variety in front of me. My friend and I decided to each get a cupcake then split and swap a half. They got Red Velvet and I got Snickerdoodle. When you see these cupcakes you are taken aback by their enormous size; probably triple the size of a regular cupcake. This was a little off putting to me as that just seems like a lot for one person; it's like a thick slice of cake and I picture cupcakes more like a little treat. Plus, I'd rather try two varieties than be stuck with one kind. As for the ingredients, I was told by the staff that the only cupcake made with real fruit was the banana one, I was told they use a gel for flavoring. Ehhhh that's a bad sign but I still wanted to see what they tasted like. They weren't the worst cupcakes I've ever had, but they weren't good enough for me to take a second bite either. The cake was dry and the frosting was meh. Just nothing worthwhile about these cupcakes at all. I would not go back and I would not recommend.

I honestly stop in here to just smell the place. HOLY SUGAR SMELL. It's amazing. There is definitely a lot of variety. I tried the salted caramel cupcake my first time and it was exactly what I needed after a long work day. These cupcakes are indeed colossal which is probably why they are a little expensive. However, I have had better cupcakes for the same price so clearly I wouldn't want to spend $4 on these cupcakes very often. It's convenient for me because it's right around the corner from work, but I would not go out of my way to get these cupcakes. It doesn't quite stack up to Sprinkles in Dallas. I really liked my red velvet cake shake from here. They blend any cupcake with vanilla ice cream. It was delicious and so worth $5. Such a great concept. I made this purchase after an Indians game and it was pretty crowded for only one person was working at the time. So our group had to wait quite a while. If you are going to be open late on the weekends, have at least two people working. Overall, this is a cute place that you should try out if you are in downtown and have a craving for something sweet.

Had the chocolate salted caramel cupcake. Absolutely delicious. 3.75 is very reasonable to me for such a large cupcake.

Back again and I'm still not loving it. No credit cards today, out of hot chocolate and the cupcakes are still not that good.

Great variety of cupcakes and the prices aren't so bad. Cake is a little dry. And the frosting lacks flavor. We always try a cupcake in the city we are visiting. DC cupcakes rank 1st. ( Georgetown) Magnolia cupcakes rank 2nd. (NYC)

I was in the area this week for a national debate tournament and in my down time between rounds, I simply had to evaluate Cleveland's cupcake game. I was limited geographically, and as this place was only a 5 minute walk from my hotel, I decided to check it out. Boy, should I have read the reviews first. As self-proclaimed California-Cupcake-Snob, I can honestly say (with much regret) that this was the worst cupcake I have ever tasted. One star is warranted only for presentation, enticing interior design, and namesake of the shop living up to the actual size of the cupcakes. One extra star for the girl working behind the counter who was very lovely and patient with me as I took awhile to decide which flavor I actually wanted. She also provided excellent recommendations. The actual cupcakes themselves...YIKES. I got the Coffee Toffee flavor (coffee cupcake with a buttercream frosting and toffee bits on top) and I was utterly disappointed. The cake was extremely dry, bland, unsweet, and tasted nothing like coffee. The frosting was overly sweet but at the same time flavorless as well. And the toffee bits were just ok. I honestly felt like I was eating a bad muffin with store-bought frosting slathered on. I had two bites and was done. I tried giving the rest to a friend (who is far less of a cupcake snob than I), and she also only took a few bites before it was trashed. IN SUMMATION - Colossal Cupcakes is great at putting on a Colossal Show (aka all their cupcakes *LOOK* and sound delicious, but when it comes to actual quality of product...they have colossally disappointed me. :( At least I got free coffee from my check-in?

I don't understand why so people are so pissy about this joint ? I don't even like cake or cupcakes , but I bought three ginormous cupcakes for my mom and her employees to share on her birthday. They were good , the frosting was good , they were moist and had excellent flavor profiles. Customer service was great as well , friendly and helpful. Decor was kitschy and cute. Only note - one of the cupcakes was their Sunday morning and it's a pancake cake with maple frosting and bacon. Very cute concept , cake was again moist and fantastically "pancake-y" frosting was beyond perfect, but the bacon was real crappy - might want to step up the bacon game.

As soon as you walk in your smacked in the face with this wonderful aroma of sweet yumminess. We were walking around so I decided to get the cupcake shake to make it easy to enjoy .. Smores cupcake and vanilla ice cream ... I don't know .. But it just didn't seem right. I took a few gulps and couldn't stomach anymore. It was so thick and grainy. I tossed it. I came back a few hours later with my mom who ended up getting the salted caramel cupcake. Meh, it wasn't that great. The frosting wasn't overly sweet but the cake was dry. The price isn't bad for such a "colossal" cupcake at 3.25 ... But that's about it. I definitely won't be back .. It wasn't something I will crave.

The store drew me in off the street with their massive cupcakes. But my first bite of their chocolate peanut butter cupcake was disappointingly bland. The cake was kind of dry and flavorless, and the frosting was firm and cheap tasting...like it came out of a can. It almost tasted a couple days old. My fiancé had the red velvet, and he had the same reaction to the blah-factor of the cupcake. It satisfied my sweet tooth just enough to keep me from getting hangry, but its lack of flavor left me feeling empty inside...

Tried for the first time about a year ago and did not like the cupcakes. Figured enough time had passed and I'd give it another go while downtown Sat evening. Unfortunately, the results were the same. Just not very good cupcakes at all. Nobody in our party of 4 wanted to finish them. A couple stomachs, including my own regretted getting them. Too dense... something just not right about the taste. Two stars only because the girls working were pleasant.

The storefront is interesting and fun, but the cupcakes were pretty dry, and the cupcake shake was bland. The cupcakes are way overpriced and the workers are unfriendly.

We love to come here for a nice sweet treat after dinner or on the weekends. It is a convenient location and the staff is always friendly. If you sign up for their mailing list you can get the occasional deal such as a dollar off. We especially like the snickerdoodle, Oreo and toffee cupcakes. The cupcakes are definitely large and can be shared if need be. A great spot to stop in with a date or friends.

I have something serious to say: I had a cupcake and did not finish it. Now, I love sugar and adore cupcakes so what could go wrong with me set loose in a cupcake joint? I was meeting my brother in law downtown for dinner and walked past this place. I assumed they were closed because it was desolate. After dinner I walked past on my way to the car and noted that they were open for a few more hours! Awesome! I walked in and no one was there. It took a bit for the 2 employees to come out and I felt like I was bothering them. They were having their own conversation. Greet a customer? Yeah right. I asked a few questions, which were answered in between their conversation and we're not very helpful. I pondered just leaving but the pull of frosting was strong. I ended up with two cupcakes - salted caramel and their version of a Ho Ho. Never asked if we might like to stay there or have a drink (it is very cute and I wouldn't have minded staying). Also worth noting that mid-fun chat while retrieving my sugary goodness the employee didn't wear gloves. Yuck. Isn't that a health code violation? Luckily she seemed to only touch my (nicely oversized) cupcakes' wrappers but still kinda ick. So to the real reason I was there - those cupcakes. I had the salted caramel chocolate to reward myself (since rewarding with sweets is the sign of an awesome health educator) after a deadline. First, they're HUGE. The store name is right. I cut mind into portions. I expected an ooze of caramel filling and was disappointed. More like the bottom of the cake was caramel soaked. Bummer but I can deal. The cake itself tasted a little stale. It was dry and not super chocolate-y, it was rather bland. The frosting tasted a touch gritty, maybe that was the salt? There was a good amount of frosting but the taste was nothing amazing I ended up not finishing the cupcake. I had no desire to try to save it, and I could easily finish it had I enjoyed it. I may gave them another shot but it's not likely. My minty tea (made at home) was much more fulfilling than a cupcake - thoughts I never thought I would have to write. Bummer

This place was right across from my hotel in Cleveland. I give this a four star because the girls were so sweet who worked behind the counter. They gave me an extra cupcake for free - 3 for the price of 2. These cupcakes are very big and the decor is so cute. I love that they stay open until midnight. I got the Smores and two vanilla and rainbow sprinkle cupcakes.

5 stars all the way!!! Had 2 of the BEST cupcakes ever! The red velvet & the chocolate salted carmel. Not sure what to call the frosting that was on the salted carmel one, but it was PHENOMENAL & the cupcake was also filled with a salted carmel sauce that was GREAT! The cream cheese frosting on the red velvet was AWESOME as well! Both cupcakes were fresh & SUPER moist & service was spot on & place was clean. Definitely found another must stop, when in Cleveland :-)

Finally, a cupcake boutique store that gets their cupcakes right! My cake to frosting ratio is very specific and I HATE those cupcake shops that give you an inch of cake and seven inches of frosting! That is NOT a cupcake, it's a frostcake! Colossal gets it right - decent amount of cake and just enough frosting. My favorite? Chocolate with coconut...nom nom nom....

I really had high hopes for this place! But the manager really made my 1st time something to remember. In a bad way! I've been wanting to try this place for months because I've heard great things about the cupcakes so I thought hey, why not give it a try! The cashier was helpful in giving his opinion on which cupcakes were good and which weren't and I ended up picking the strawberry cupcake. Which is AMAZING! FYI: by checking in with yelp you get a free coffee :)... Speaking of coffee is exactly why I gave this place three stars. When I showed the cashier the coupon for the coffee in walks the owner with the most stuck up attitude I've witnessed in a long time. She was really rude, had an attitude because I asked her can I have I've coffee vs hot coffee. She said the voucher is really for hot coffee but ended up giving me I've coffee anyway which was nice. I guess that was her way of making up for being rude to me. I went back a second time for the same strawberry cupcake( yes, it's that good) and ended up seeing her again and surprisingly she was friendly. Soon guessing she was having a good day!

I don't know what people are talking about with these reviews, This place was awesome! I got a single Red Velvet cupcake and my god, was it the best Red Velvet cupcake ever! The cake was super moist, not too sweet, not too much buttermilk, and was very tasty! The icing was not overbearing, nor was it too sweet, it was perfect. I also got one of their mason jar strawberry lemonades (seemed like a drink-of-the-day special), it was great! Overall I need to bring my wife here, she would love this place!

My husband and I decided to try Colossal Cupcakes because it was right across the street from our hotel. We ordered one banana walnut and one chocolate with cream cheese icing. The banana walnut was very moist and yummy and the chocolate was sort of dry but still had a good flavor.

As a cupcake connoisseur, I want to fall in love with every cupcake establishment I walk into. I'm not in love with Colossal Cupcakes, but I stop in every once and awhile if I am in the area. It's always a pleasant experience, but it's never the cupcake experience I want it to be. Pros: Friendly service, knowledgeable staff, and giant cupcakes. Cons: The cupcakes sometimes have an artificial taste and certain varieties can be quite dense. There are better cupcakes and bake shops on the Cleveland market. I recommend the salted caramel; it's the best cupcake I've had here. Any of the fruity cupcakes always taste extremely artificial, so stay clear.

What the cupcake lacks in taste, the bakery makes up in cuteness. What a cutesy, dainty little place! I think I am more impressed by the storybook like decor than the cupcakes. As the name states, these are colossal cupcakes. Big but not with a lot of big flavor. I've had better and definitely worse. My cupcake was okay. Would I make a special trip to downtown Cleveland just for these, probably not. Will I remember the decor more than the cupcake, absolutely. Actually, I can't really remember the type of cupcake I had. It was a red velvety type, it was decent. I do remember the nice pink bag it came in though. If given the chance, I might return just to see if there have been any changes made to the recipe.

Overrated ... the cupcake was not good. The cake was too crumbly and dry! The customer service was fantastic.

I'm surprised at the poor reviews for this place. I've been here a few times and have always enjoyed the cupcake that I ordered. I do appreciate that they are a little larger so it makes it easier to share and feel like you had a whole dessert. I think the key is choosing the right flavor. There were plenty of options that I know I wouldn't have liked because it would've been too sweet, too much frosting, etc. I have gotten a strawberry and cream type of a cupcake before and most recently, Boston cream pie. I appreciate the cutesy decor and staff have always been friendly enough. I've even had the mini cupcakes before at a work party and we didn't have any problem eating all of those. I find these cupcakes to have more moisture and different types of frosting whereas another local cupcake shop always seem a bit dry to me. Colossal is now open late which is great because you can get a quick dessert after going to a show or a game. I will say that the iced coffee we got was awful so they may need to work on their drink selection.

Sorry ass cupcakes. Very dry. How is this place in business? Betty Crocker mixes make better cupcakes than this overpriced crap. I had chocolate with cream cheese and my daughter had confetti. Both were disgusting.

  • Kaitlin D.

I'd call this a 2.5, but I'm feeling generous today, so I rounded up instead of down. I'm not a cake eater, so when I do enjoy cake, I want it to be in small portions and spectacular. This place serves cupcakes that are neither of those things. I love filled cupcakes, so that's pretty much the only thing that sold me on the OK-ness of these. The Cinna-bon one has a pretty delicious cinnamon filling and the strawverry french toast had a good gooey filling. But still, these weren't the most amazing cupcakes for me. They were oversized and if not shared with a friend, you'll be taking a big crumbly mess of sugar home with you OR feeling guilty and sick. As a whole, the novelty of the place and feeling like you're in a doll house when you walk in is nice, but I'm just not that into it. I'd rather indulge in a Luna cupcake and make my sugar high/calorie overload worth it.

I loooooove cupcakes. Cake? Eh, take it or leave it. Pie? Meh. Ice cream? Not a fan. Cupcakes?! Yes, please! I will ALWAYS eat a cupcake. The decor of this place is pretty adorable. I love the lettering, I love the hot pink that's everywhere, I love the cute furniture. Let's do a quick recap here: I love cupcakes and I love the decor. What could possibly go wrong? I usually find myself getting a relatively plain cupcake - vanilla with vanilla icing, for example, can't really be messed up and is quite delicious on its own. When I went to Colossal Cupcakes, there wasn't a vanilla option. I ultimately got the Poppin' Bottles. I'm sorry to say that I didn't like it. The cupcake was huge (which, might I say, I am almost always up to the task) and I threw half of it away. The sparkles on the top were pretty gross, and the flavor kind of permeated the whole cupcake, which was otherwise bland. It didn't help that, as I was experiencing what was probably the first cupcake I've ever not liked, there was a group of teenagers taking selfies on the couch. They were being super obnoxious; laughing loudly, falling all over each other, posing seductively. Can't we just have a universal policy to not allow that, please? I'd really rather not witness your angst-driven photo shoot, thank you. Overall, I was super disappointed with this place, and I won't be returning.

Can I give 0 stars? The worst cupcakes ever. I bought some of the salted caramel chocolate cupcakes for my boyfriends birthday and they were so dry and awful. They had absolutely no flavor and the frosting tasted like a stick of butter. Do not waste your money. How are they still in business?

Following a Girls Night Out for a concert at the Q with my BFF, we agreed that before we beat it out of Cleveland to head back to Pennsylvania, we'd get some cupcakes for the road. We stopped in on Saturday to tease ourselves and check out the pricing, which seemed reasonable for the size of those gargantuan cupcakes. It was fairly busy on a Saturday afternoon, and when we came back Sunday, it was utterly desolate. (To be fair, so was the rest of downtown Cleveland.) They were out of a few of the flavors I was drooling over the night before, ostensibly because new cupcakes aren't prepared for Sundays. The poor girl working seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but manning a cupcake on a slow Sunday morning, though she wasn't unfriendly about it. Just...sad. My friend got a 6-pack to take home to her husband and in-laws, and I took 3 as a thank-you to my folks for watching my aged kitty cat while I was out. I got the banana peanutbutter, vanilla, and sea salt chocolate caramel. My parents were thrilled with the two former, and I quite enjoyed the latter, especially because they were made with buttercream frosting, my favorite. Okay, the cake was a little dry, but certainly far from inedible. Overall, this place is very, very cute, but I just...I don't know. I feel like it could tweak is operations a little bit. Like, maybe don't open on Sundays when downtown Cleveland is desolate and you probably won't get the best, most exciting customer atmosphere. Judging from other Yelpers' reviews, the quality can be hit or miss, but based on my experience it was fine. If I'm in the area again, I'd easily give another Colossal Cupakes another visit.

I'm honestly so shocked by the terrible reviews here! Granted, many of the complaints are about the consistency of how good the cupcakes are, and I have only been here once. Still, when I stumbled across this cute little cupcakery I was pleasantly surprised by the size and texture of my Ted velvety cupcake. Now. .I love cupcakes -- even obsessed you could say. This place had the three things I need the cupcakery to have: 1. Happy, attentive service: I would be smiling all day long if I worked at a cupcakery! Plus, if there is no line..a smile and a thorough description of the cupcakes is always appreciated! The lady here was so friendly and let me take me sweet time gawking and assessing each of the cupcakes.. 2. Moist and flavorful: I eventually settled on the red velvet cupcake, which she said was the most popular one! It was definitely yummy and moist..the cake was light and fluffy and the red velvet taste really came through. 3. Not too sweet: This is the one people usually mess up on..when the frosting and the cake is way too sweet..the one I had was a great consistency. The frosting was not too sweet..and the cake to frosting ratio was perfect. (I didn't have to scrap off any frosting!) Perhaps I was given the one and only amazeball cupcake that this cupcakery produced, but I definitely enough every bite of the red velvet cupcake I ordered. Maybe it wasn't the best I've EVER had, but I'm giving it 4 stars for the ONE time i was here and the ONE cupcake I consumed...and i'm sticking to it. :) yours truly, cupcakelover4everrrr!!! :D

Opening Day. The anticipation. My co-worker had been informing me this place was here. I will justify eating these treats with the walk it takes me to get there from work. We took the walk and couldn't resist. Adorable front window and seating inside. We split the Red Velvet cupcake this afternoon. We got back to work and before I could turn around she had a knife down the middle. I started eating it...could not get enough of the frosting...and then, only after making sure no one was looking, licked the leftover frosting off the wrapper once finished. Awful but sooo worth it. I'm looking forward to trying other delights and their Magical Hot Cocoa and Whimsical Hot Tea (I think I got the names right...). Congratulations on Opening Day:)

Cute decor, approachable staff, pretty abysmal cupcakes. Food: These cupcakes are some of the most miserably middle-of-the-road I've ever had. The flavors are apppealing (not to mention inventive: 'Great Lakes X-Mas Ale flavored cupcake?!' Genius) and varied, with a little something for everyone. The actual consistency of the cupcakes, however, tends to be either jet-puff airy (you could swallow the cupcake material whole and not be phased, probably) or Sahara-dry. The icing is uniformly butter-dense splatter that is virtually tasteless except for the tooth-tingling sweetness it invariably elicits. One patron tried a cupcake milkshake and remarked that it was literally a ground up cupcake into some vanilla ice cream. Take a cupcake home and submerge it in milk prior to consumption for relatively the same effect. Atmosphere: The place is aesthetically very, very nice. Cute, pink, frilly. The cupcakes are arranged in rows for your study in such a way as to promote goodwill and remarks of 'squee!' or 'omg!' from patrons of all stripe. There are few places to sit to consume the cupcakes, however, so don't come with a large party. Staff: Very sweet people who do their best to accomodate you. If only they had a better product to serve...

Another place I really wanted to like but just couldn't. I work downtown and I pass this shop up almost daily. I finally decided to stop in when I saw how cute it was inside and have been there 4 or 5 times since. Each time I was disappointed. I saw the less than great reviews first but I usually don't go based on reviews, I like to try a place for myself. Most of the time I am pleasantly surprised and glad I didn't listen to the reviews. Not so much this time. So far I've tried the carrot cake, snickerdoodle, peanut butter, red velvet, and lemon. I have to whole heartedly agree that they just frankly taste bad. The offensive flavor ranges from bland and stale to bizarrely salty and artificial tasting, with a strange almost chemical after taste. They are so big that I have always shared them. Whoever I have shared them with and I have never actually finished one. We've always both agreed that they are just unpleasant to eat and not at all worth the price. What's the point of a calorie bomb that isn't even enjoyable? I also made the mistake of ordering the apple cider this last fall. It was really expensive, I think $5 or more. More than large Starbucks drink. For $5 a cup I expect handmade cider that is truly memorable. Even when I've gone to fall festivals and apple orchards in the past their cider hasn't been that expensive per cup. But I decided to splurge. I really think it must have just been regular Giant Eagle brand cider from a jug. It was cold and almost totally clear with very little color. Real handmade apple cider is usually much darker than that and has a taste. This was even less flavorful than plain old store bought apple juice. What was a bit more unsettling than that was the presentation of the "cider". Perhaps it was because I anticipated a piping hot cup of fragrant apple cider, a delectable little autumn treat. Instead the man behind the counter bent his knees slightly, reached toward his crotch, and presented a mason jar full of cold yellow liquid. Once I had time to observe the specimen and mull it over, it wasn't that bad. Some thought went into it. The idea of a mason jar with a little twine bow wrapped around it did seem quant in a charming way. That is, once I got over the initial shock of being presented with what seemed to be a frosty jelly jar full of urine. I gave it two stars because I think that their branding is really great. They have an adorable shop, the cupcakes look fantastic, they have a great location, and their website is decent. They have a lot of potential to be better. But I can't give them more than that because they just taste terrible, are expensive, and every time I have been there I leave feeling cheated. Like I was just tricked into spending a ton of money on a stale old cupcake made from some store bought mix and a cup of grocery store apple juice. They need a real culinary overhaul.

Over priced. The chocolate salted caramel cupcake tasted like an ice cream sandwich. I give it 2 stars.

This place is overpriced and the cupcakes are tasteless and boring. First of all, the decor looks like an Easy Bake Oven threw up a 1995 Barbie dream house. I went twice hoping that the cupcakes I purchased the first time were a fluke, but after taking out a second mortgage to pay off the cupcakes, I realized that I will never be going back. Go to Heinen's and buy better cupcakes for half the price!

This place is an epic fail. +1 star for the decor and location, but otherwise a one star joint. First off, the cupcakes are just awful and lack that addictive quality some of the cupcake joint's in town have. How do you mess up a cup cake?

We walked in and this place smelled amazing. Great decor. However the staff did not greet us so that was a little disappointing. We got our cupcakes that looked amazing but I have to say something was just off. I realized it was the icing. The inside of the cupcake just does not compliment the cupcake. The icing is almost like a mix of whipped and buttercream but not enough of either. I really can't explain it. We had the salted Carmel, confetti and those were the 2 we were not pleased with. My daughter ate her entire double chocolate.

Grabbed 2 cupcakes here Wake N Bake (I believe) - Maple cupcake with a bacon cream cheese frosting. It was an interesting combination and very tasty. Red Velvet - I really don't know if there is much you can do to make a red velvet stand out as it's pretty standard. Both were moist, nice large portions. They could have done a little bit thicker frosting. The interior is cute, however I did feel like there was something missing -as in, it almost feels slightly unfinished. I feel like Crumbs in NY for example you feel like there is a pull to go back into it, whereas didn't to get that same vibe here. Maybe it's the $3.75 cupcake on paper plate vs. for example a glass plate and an accompanying cup of tea or something? Maybe real tea pots? I guess it's sort of a large space for just a cupcake display case. Ok, I'm rambling. That being said, all in all it's a decent cupcake place.

Had another one of their cupcakes today, as they were provided for a work event. Rather, I should say I had 3 bites of a cupcake before I couldn't eat any more of it. This time it was the red velvet cake. No chocolate flavor at all. The only flavor in this cupcake and the frosting were straight up sugar. WAY too sweet. Will definitely not be consuming any more of their cupcakes.

I love cupcakes. I really wanted to be in love with this place. I walked passed it all the time in a hurry to get to the places I need downtown. Finally I took time to stop and regret all that day dreaming I did. One cupcake was 3.75 with a 1.00 tip to the girl who served it to me. Not to bad if the cakes were awesome. This was a let down. The cake was a bit thick and dry in consistency and the frosting tasted like pure butter. I got the salted caramel chocolate cupcake. I would not recommend it for any one looking to indulgent in any moment other than a heart attack. Its just not worth the price. If someone had baked this and brought it to a party (meaning I hadnt just paid five bucks for it) I would have not asked them to bring cupcakes again. Honestly the ones I can make myself from a mix at the grocery store are far more satisfying. The decor inside is also very cheap and minimal repainted vintage look alikes. Nothing in this plays crys out for the quality you are paying for. I dont see this being one of the businesses downtown that will last long.

My husband and I really enjoyed our cupcakes, despite some reviews. We are not experts, but the chocolate salted caramel was amazing and the frosting on both was about the best I have ever had.

I thoroughly enjoyed my salted caramel cupcake from Colossal Cupcakes. The cupcake came with a wonderful caramel surprise in the middle of the cupcake that was amazing. It was really one of the best cupcakes I have ever eaten.

Banana peanut butter was delicious and fresh, but my husband's chocolate was a little old. Something to do in downtown Cleveland on a Saturday after lunch... not great, but not bad I guess...

Went to Colossal with my son yesterday. I work downtown and he came to work with me. He got the Santa Says. We got back to my office, and we were both disappointed. First off, the white "stuff" on top was just gross. It was like a Crisco stripe, not sweet, but really whipped. As a baker myself, I for the life of me cannot figure out what it was. After scraping that off per his request, he tried the cake. The chocolate cake was good, but the ganache on top was barely there. Wish there was more. I had to scoop out the white filling for him to eat anymore. He didn't finish it, not because it was large....but because he didn't want it. $3.75 was a lot to toss in the garbage. The person who waited on us was very...umm....messy? For lack of a better word. My son said she creeped him out the way she was looking at us! On a positive note, the place is cute and smelled good! I can say I've finally been there, but i won't go back.

  • Rachel L.

I wish there were more cupcake places to compete in downtown. The cupcakes are very average - they're not horrible but I'm not dying to go back. My friends came to visit and got 8 cupcakes for around $30. I expect large city cupcakes to be on the more expensive side and in my opinion they're usually completely worth it, with the exception of these colossal cupcakes. Since we got 8 and I've tried their cupcakes on a couple other occasions, I can now say I've given them enough chances and won't be going back.

I have been here a few times now and the place just keeps getting better. They had a few issues In the beginning that is typical of any new restaurant but their service keeps improving. The Sunday Morning cupcake is my favorite. I wasn't sure what to think when I first tried it but it is amazing! It also is a very convenient location if you live or work downtown.

I wanted to love this place bc it's cute. But the service is really bad....and the cupcakes are nothing special. The icing on the cupcakes was a bit oily, too.

I was visiting back home and saw this place just opened and thought it looked cute. Never again. First of all, I saw someone walking around with Duncan Hines cake mix. For $3.75, I can buy my own cake mix, eggs, and canola oil and make my own cupcakes. They'd probably have better frosting. I got the cookie monster cupcake--white cake and white frosting with Oreos mixed in. The frosting was greasy, grainy, and poorly mixed--seriously, there were chunks of butter in it. Disgusting. I'm never going back.

    (1)
  • Shaundra T.

Very very disappointing :-(. Very nice and clean inside, but I'm not paying $3+ for a small cupcake that I can make at home that will taste much better. I also tried their cake and shake milkshake (milkshake with a cupcake blended in it). Sadly, all I tasted was the Vanilla Ice Cream.

    (1)
  • Ilona W.

Underwhelming. I had a chocolate cupcake with peanut butter frosting. The cake tasted like a boxed mix and the frosting was runny and greasy. Half of it melted off my cupcake before I could eat it. They are definitely big but I'd rather pay the same for a cupcake half the size that actually tasted good, like one from Cookie and a Cupcake.

    (2)
  • Morgan R.

This was, by far, the worst cupcake I've ever had. I got the blackberry and the lemon, which seemed to have cream cheese frosting on it. Admittedly, I don't like cream cheese (I chose the lemon after asking the girl at the counter what she recommended) but I can often stomach cream cheese frosting. This was so bad I had to scrape it off. First, it was thin and melting off the cupcake. Second, it was very salty. Third, and worst of all, it was so sour it tasted spoiled. The cake itself was nothing to write home about. I've had better boxed cake and there was zero lemon flavor in the cupcake. The blackberry cupcake was marginally better, but nothing we'd ever buy again. Save your pennies and head to A Cookie and a Cupcake or Main Street Cupcakes.

Eh, its OK. I think it has a lot to learn being a new upcoming store in downtown Cleveland. I think you can make better cupcakes from a box at home, the icing is pitiful.

The place is pink and pretty. Personally I'm not a big sweets person, but i thought the chocolate cupcake w white icing I tried was good. I like the location and who wouldn't want to sneak away from work for a bit to eat cake? I'll be happy to go back and try another flavor.

I am extremely happy that this cupcake bakery finally opened! However, I was a little disappointed in the selection and prices of the cupcakes. I ordered the Rum/Coconut cupcake, it was huge, soft, moist, and the frosting was tasty. However it was HUGE. I like to try different types of cupcakes so I wish these cupcakes were the standard small size, or I wish they had a bunch of small cupcakes so I taste a bunch of different flavors. I think my cupcake came out to almost $4, which I think is a little steep. However I will be back when I have a cupcake craving. I hope they will offer more cupcakes selection as it gets busier.....

  • MJ S.

So, I never really craved cupcakes because all we have downtown/Tremont is Cookie and Cupcake and I think their cupcakes are pretty awful (you feel like you are eating just a stick of butter rather than a cupcake). When I tried Colossal Cupcake I had heard mixed reviews. I took several flavors home for a family birthday dinner. They were a hit. My personal favorite is the Salted Caramel Chocolate cupcake. I love the gooey caramel inside - I wish there was more of it - and frosting is amazing. I just tried the milkshake using this cupcake and I finished the milkshake in less than 10 minutes because it is so delicious. Great cupcakes and worth a try.

I work right around the corner from Colossal and have to walk past their doors every morning. The first cupcake I got from them was probably a product of their test batch. The cupcake would stick to the wrapper and it almost seemed undercooked. It was still good regardless. Here we are a month later, the cupcakes are delicious, the icing is tasty and unique, the cake no longer sticks to the wrapper, and I find myself wanting to walk in and eat one everyday but that wouldn't be very helpful with my waistline. The huge selection of flavors and the unique decor is pleasing to the eyes. Price isn't as bad as everyone says. The cupcakes are big enough to share and be more than satisfied. I don't think Cleveland needs to be complaining about already over-sized cupcakes being too small.

I was so excited about trying 4 different flavored cupcakes at this so cute bakery with tons of flavors of huge cupcakes! But alas, not only did none of them taste as good as they looked, but there was a long thick hair in the icing of one of the cupcakes...ugghhh! My two young boys, who usually go for anything with chocolate or sugar, were equally unimpressed. The icings were high on sugar, but low in flavor and texture. The cream cheese icing on the carrot cake was a particular disappointment...how can u combine cream cheese, milk, and powdered sugar and have it taste bad? I don't know, but they managed. And it was too bad since the carrot cake itself was tasty and delicious and the sprinkles of tiny walnut pieces on the top looked picture perfect. This place gets an A for their design and decorating of the store and the cupcakes, but an F for execution and quality control. My advice to this place: when there was little competition, u may have done ok, but now with the likes of Great Scott and LaBella and several others, u need to change your processes and upgrade your recipes or cut your losses and close now, and please, wear your hairnets!

We ordered @ 13 dozen cupcakes for an event, and they were awful. The entire experience was a mistake. It was impossible to even get someone on the phone to order these, we had to call back almost 6 times to place a giant order. The cupcakes WERE NOT AT ALL what they sell in the store almost half the size at the same price covered in a mess of icing. The worst part was the owner, called us during our conference to deliver the cupcakes 3 days early! We asked why are they done three days early, do we refrigerate these? I have never heard of anything like this, she said rudely "Well they are done" ....we agreed for her to deliver them that morning. It turns out she didn't. Three days later We had a team of 12 people searching for these cupcakes throughout this giant complex until she finally called and said she was outside and couldn't find parking. We explained to her that she called us three days prior to deliver these and she blew this off, and said rudely, "your delivery date is today, sorry". I called to complain to the manager who told me that WAS THE OWNER!!! Shocking an awful business, horrible cupcakes that went uneaten, and rude. Unfortunately, I dont think she realized what business she was dealing with and that we hold events here of this magnitute almost monthly.

Cupcakes are huge, but the texture is very spongy. After having Georgetown Cupcakes and Urban Cupcakes it's hard to eat "regular" Cupcakes. The icing is decent, a little sweet for my taste, but tasty. i would get them for a client, but wouldn't go back for myself.

4$ for a cupcake..... and no neighborhood discount? What's up with that?? The cupcakes are good, but the price is crazy. This place has inspired me to start making my own cupcakes at home.

The only think colossal about my experience here was my disappointment with my cupcakes. I wouldn't say that I am a devoted cupcake connoisseur but I have tasted the spectrum of the cupcake world - from store purchased mixes to the upscale Hollywood style of the Sprinkles brand and everywhere in between. Cleveland has numerous decent cupcake joints but this is definitely not one of the places I'd recommend. I ordered a 'chocolate covered strawberry' and a 'red velvet'. Both made me sad. The strawberry one actually had the texture and taste of a store-bought cake mixture and was dry and poorly flavored. My red velvet was even more disappointing. Red velvet is the cupcake style that I judge all cupcakes by. If you make a crappy red velvet then you won't get a return visit. Simple as that. The cream cheese frosting on it was extremely tart and off-putting. I definitely didn't enjoy anything about these cupcakes. They were overpriced, yucky, and didn't even look appetizing. Parking sucked on Euclid too so the visit felt like a huge waste of time and money. I'd recommend Grandma Freda's (yummy!!) over this any day!!

All I have to say is hooray for cupcake milkshakes. I didn't eat any plain old cupcakes but why would you when they will make any of them into a milkshake and they are only $5. Can't give wrong. I'd weigh 500 lbs if I lived near this place

  • Marci A.

So good! The frosting is perfect not too sweet. The cake is excellent and moist. The cake shake wasn't my favorite. I don't think it was blended well enough. When it gets crowded it is very unorganized because you can't tell who is in line. One of the workers is very rude.

I love this cute cupcake shop. It is everything I expect for a downtown cupcake bakery. The cupcake I got was a big as a baby's head, literally colossal. And it was so moist and perfect. I am in love!

I legit created a yelp account just to review this place. The cupcakes smelled amazing but was not moist at all. ***Heres the kicker*** as I am ordering a guy brings in a trolley of cake mix!! I am not to familiar with the gourmet cupcake scene, but we walked by and HAD to stop in for a snack! Not only are you hit with an amazingly Delicious smell, your eyes are locked in on a super cute pink eating area. It looks like a life-size barbie house...lush and pink! Super cute! There were plenty of different cupcakes to choose from but from minute one I locked eyes with the Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcake!! Chocolate Cake with a gooey caramel center, topped with a really good frosting with salted caramel. It was to die for! Nice on the pocket book and high on calories!! (Just the way a good cupcake should be!) $3.75 and it was big enough for the hubs and I to share! My brother and sister-in-law shared a snicker-doodle cupcake. It was also yummy (but honestly...how can you beat salted caramel!?) The frosting was like smooth cream cheese frosting with cinnamon. Very nice! Stop in...if I am ever in the area again I will be stopping buy...to buy a dozen!

I don't usually like cupcakes. But any business that is located Downtown is worth a try in my book. I was pleasantly surprised with the Cookie Monster (Oreo) cupcake that I first tried here but my favorite is by far the Santa Says (Hoho) cupcake. It is just like the snack cakes- chocolate cake, chocolate frosting, filled with vanilla creme. Since they have a lot of flavors there is something for everyone.

I stopped in the day Colossal Cupcakes opened and was un-impressed... The strawberry-banana cupcake (overpriced at $3.75) was basically pink and yellow cake swirled together (without actually being flavored enough to be described as strawberry or banana). Neither the cake or frosting was anything worth mentioning... Also, it was utter chaos trying to actually buy anything - the staff was undertrained, rude and harried... Since it was their first day, I decided to give them the benefit of doubt, and assumed they needed to work out some kinks. That being said, after my second visit this Saturday, I have put this on my "Never Again" list. The cupcake I tried this time (cookie monster) was very "meh..." But the thing that really stuck out to me was how unfriendly and strange the atmosphere was... It was truly bizarre - an older man stood at the register in a way that made me think he had one hand on a baseball bat under the counter - he was non-verbal and suspiciously glared at everyone in line. The girl who took our order never spoke to us other than to announce the (sticker shock-inducing) total. Very, very strange people... At least, they are definitely not the kind of cheerful, happy-go-lucky people you would think would find themselves in the business of serving the world's most adorable kind of food. I definitely think the shop's future might be in jeopardy if others are having similar experiences there. If you are downtown and you want a delicious cupcake with better customer service for less $$, check out The Flaming Ice Cube on Public Square.

These cupcakes are 50% larger than those from your typical cupcake shop. At $3.75, they are also 50% more expensive. And, they taste downright awful. I really, truly wanted to like this place despite the middling reviews on yelp. And also I understand I'm basing this review off of one cupcake (the Neapolitan). But I think I can sincerely say that this was the worst cupcake I've ever had in my life. The cake itself was... I don't know, doughy? spongy? off-tasting? just... bad? My girlfriend and I could barely muster one mouthful each without spitting it out. It's still sitting on my table half eaten now. I do like their frosting. It's nice and creamy and not thick like your typical cupcake frosting. Maybe we'll make some cupcakes out of a box mix and borrow the frosting from our Neapolitan cupcake.

Walked in once and will not be back. Was looking around the case for a cupcake and there were fruit flies EVERYwhere and on almost every cupcake. I was pretty horrified. Obviously did not purchase. Instead trekked to Tremont to go to a Cookie and a Cupcake and was not disappointed. Regardless, very disappointing experience. When you have a niche market in a nice area take some pride in what you're doing and keep the display case clean. I hope they clean up (literally) and get it together.

  • Dee A.

Well I guess their viral yelp campaign worked cause I stopped in to see what all the fuss was about. First thing I noticed. Not one person said hi when I walked in. They all looked up at me but then went right back to their conversation and eating. It was kinda awkward. I almost left. Their cupcakes are pretty big. So I decided just to get a cupcake lollipop. They only had chocolate but no worries, I like chocolate. It was 3 freakin dollars. It was ok. I might have thought it was even good if Grandma Freda's didn't sell the same exact thing for 75 cents. Grandma Freda's are amazing. And they have a huge variety of flavors. And they're only 75 cents. The price combined with the customer service really didn't make a good impression at all. I'm not sure I would come back.

Okay, everyone, step aside and let the Cupcake connoisseur of Cleveland give her official review. HUGE, MONSTROUS, MONGO, SUPERSIZED. Yep, these cupcakes are as big as your head. Since I only eat filled cupcakes (which they don't have many of...boo hiss) I chose the Strawberry French Toast cupcake. It came with a fork. In a cup. You get the picture. It was sweet. It was sugary. It was...large and in charge. Was it the best cupcake I've had in Cleveland? Nope. That designation belongs to Great Scott Bakery in Rocky River. But the preponderance of pink in this cupcake shop delivers a fun environment in which to enjoy a massive sugar shock (before you decide to run home 20 miles to burn off that cupcake).

  • Rachael N.

Mmmmm. These are great cupcakes. I'm basing it off of one cupcake. I need to go try some more...but one cupcake is worth the review. He brought me the chocolate on chocolate cupcake. (Is there a certain name? I don't know). Eager to try this new cupcake shop in downtown CLE, I eagerly took my first bite...and let out a whoosh of ,"oh wow, that's GOOOOD." The frosting isn't the crunchy frosting that's sold in mediocre cupcake shops. It's this soft, almost butter cream frosting, that's so smooth and not even that sweet type of texture that made me cheer with foodgasm. The cupcake itself is moist- not the most amazing cupcake portion, but just the frosting enough is a do-er for me. Try it. It's worth it. Believe me. I'm eager to try the different flavors...finally, a solid good cupcake place in the CLE!

Given the recent controversy, I couldn't help but head over to Colossal Cupcakes and take back a pair of cupcakes to taste and share at the office. I thought the Sunday Morning cupcake (pancake-flavored cake topped with maple cream cheese icing and 3 little squares of bacon) tasted good and was surprisingly balanced--the extreme sweetness of maple icing is offset by the size of the "cake" part of the cupcake. The bacon on top is a nice touch both for taste and aesthetic. The Snickerdoodle cupcake was warmly received but short of anything in the realm of extraordinary--a buttercream frosting would have been preferred over the cream cheese-based frosting used. It's a tough crowd: a cupcake would have to go a long way to top current office favorites White Flower Cake Shoppe and Flour Girl. So, no, Colossal Cupcakes are not the most amazing cupcakes in the Greater Cleveland area, but I think they are a solid go-to place to get some cupcakes for dessert before you head home or to take back to the office and sing that stirring little anthem of wellness: "Get well. Get well soon. We want you to get well." **The reviewer was not compensated either directly or indirectly for this review.**

Hey, if you want an unremarkable but aesthetically pleasing cupcake served by a teenager who either grunts or ignores you-- go here! Worst thing about eating here was seeing how dirty and chaotic it was behind the counter. Best thing was the coupon I used for a free coffee and an air conditioned place to sit and munch. Not the best of Cleveland, I think; but also not a COLOSSAL disappointment, just a slight one.

Saw the storefront on the way home Friday night and knew I had to come back. Great hours means you can have a cupcake breakfast or after work treat! Tried the snickerdoodle cupcake because of the cream cheese frosting and wasn't disappointed!! They're so big its kind of like a piece of cinnamon coffee cake. Yum! Next up, their version of a Ho-Ho.

  • Carter N.

Staff are really nice and helpful! The cupcake shake for $5 is awesome, highly recommended- you can get any cupcake, but only vanilla ice cream. The cupcakes by themselves aren't spectacular. In my opinion they're too big, too expensive, not most/spongy enough, and the frosting is too heavy. They're not bad, but in the wide world of cupcakes, they're probably middle of the pack. Still, great staff and location!

  • Callie L.

Can I say they just aren't good at leave it at that? Oh, wait, that's a not helpful review is it. Okay, here are some details (and in case you don't want a spoiler before you get to the end of the review, I suggest you avoid reading that first line or looking at the number of stars). I have been to Colossal Cupcakes three times since they opened. Normally I wouldn't remember the exact number of times I've been to a cupcake shop -- or any shop, for that matter -- over the course of a couple of years, but the experiences were memorable enough to merit it. (Each time I went, I bought between 3 and 6 cupcakes to share at work, so I've had multiple flavors.) The first time I went, I was blown away. Each cupcake was moist, sweet, delicious, flavorful, etc., etc., etc. So I went back a second time and, again, I was blown away, but not for the same reason as the first trip. Each cupcake was stale, bland, processed-tasting (is that a word?), unpleasant, etc., etc., etc. It was bad enough that I didn't feel the need to go back. Until yesterday. What can I say? It's a super cute cupcake shop and I was really in the mood for a cupcake. Plus, I figured I shouldn't judge it entirely on the bad experience considering I'd also had a good experience. As they say, third try's the charm, but this trip certainly didn't charm me. Of the 3 flavors I tasted, one's only saving grace was that it so stale and flavorless that it almost distracted from the unnatural tasting frosting, one was bland enough to not be offensive (though the blandness in itself was fairly offensive) and one was passable but far from memorable. I am officially throwing in the towel for Colossal Cupcakes. I'd rather spend the money (and, um, calories) at Cookie and a Cupcake (Tremont), which is quite possibly my favorite place in the whole world (by "place" I mean "cupcake shop" and by "the whole world" I mean "Cleveland.") So, as I said: they just aren't good.

YUMMO!!!! I don't eat sweets often, but when I'm in the mood for something yummy this is the spot to stop at. Friendly staff and a hop skip and a jump from work. I do enjoy big things, cupcakes are just one of those things.

I wanted to like Colossal, I really did. Even after the disastrous first cupcake I had, I went back and purchased another one - and another for a coworker since he decided not to get one of his own based on my first review. No one should limit their cupcake intake from someone else's opinion! I digress. Things I like about Colossal: - Location, location, location. In the heart of downtown, in the Colonial Marketplace, it's great to see this kind of business in CLE. - Community Efforts. I've seen Colossal tag their name onto a bunch of events - this is GREAT! I love to see local businesses really involve themselves into the community. - Uniqueness. The store is bright pink, cheerful, and quite welcoming in an old, historic, gray building. They really stand out among the crowd. Things I do not like about Colossal: their cupcakes. It's really hard to justify all the good reasons to support a business if you do not like a single thing they're selling. It's not a price thing either; as a pure-bred fatass, I would buy untold $4 cupcakes IF they were good. With the dry, flavor-less cakes and light whipped icing (not a fan, personally), they miss the mark. I can elaborate, but I'll spare you. Moral of the story, I hope they stick around and continue to support CLE, but it's unlikely that I will find myself paying for another of their cupcakes.

Better than Main Street, not as perfect as Cookie and a Cupcake. Darn tasty. The cupcakes are indeed colossal, hence the name. The cake is moist and tender, with good , apparent flavor. The icing is also well flavored-- no mere heap of fat and sugar (not that there's anything wrong with that). I think they are worth the $3.75 price tag. In fact, I pretty much consider it 2 for $3.75, because I can't eat one in one sitting. (Oh hush. Yeah, I probably could, but I choose not to when you are looking.) So, I'm still not going to haul out my "Sarah Jessica Parker being decadent by eating a cupcake whilst walking down the street in Manhattan yet staying improbably thin" O face for a cupcake, I will likely stop here when I'm downtown and want a treat.

The cupcakes are average at best....a little on the dry side. I've had a lot of them and only 2 get a passing grade. The morning cupcake with the bacon/maple frosting and the lemon with cream cheese frosting. I've been in several times to get the Red Velvet (my favorite) and it just doesn't make the cut for me. I really wanted to like Colossal because of the location but after several chances I won't be going back. The cupcakes are average in size and overpriced. ($3.75) Also, the staff could use some customer service training. Anyway..I can now add poor customer service to this review. On Thursday 9/6/12 around 6:05 pm I stopped in to get a cupcake. They had the lemon cupcake and I noticed 6 of the 8 cupcakes were a little dark (burnt). So I requested one in the front that wasn't burnt. Yhe young lady reached down and grabbed one from the back (a burnt one) and I said I dont want that one - it looks kinda burnt. She said there is nothing wrong with this cupcake. I said but I want the one in the front. She then says (with an attitude), I'm not pulling the tray out to get you that cupcake. WOW - since when does a paying customer not get to choose the one they want. I said to her I guess I don't need it and walked out the store. That was very RUDE and I'm not going back. For those of you that really love cupcakes like me - I suggest: Campbell's Sweet Factory - Ohio City on W. 25th The cupcakes are wonderful. #Yummy Great in price: $2.50 each or 3 for $7 great deal So far my faves: Sea Salt and Caramel/Cream Cheese Frosting Lemon/ Cream Cheese Frosting White Velvet/ Cream Cheese Frosting Oh - and the popcorn is GREAT too!

I am a huge fan of anything red velvet so I had to try theirs. I was acutally impressed. The cupcake was $3.75 for a beastly thing you need a fork to eat it with. It was very delicious. The frosting felt slightly whipped which was nice. My friend got and cookie monster cupcake and was not impressed. She offered me some of it but it look unappealing so I didnt even want to bother with it. She had mine and was quite happy.

Only reason I'm giving 2 stars, is because I love seeing business come into my neighborhood! I just wish it was a bit better quality/service. I was trilled to try this place, and left completely underwhelmed. For how much they talked themselves up while I was in there I was expecting something at least at the caliber of other establishments around the CLE. Answer: No. Didn't live up to the hype. It tasted like something I've made in my own kitchen, and I nearly smoked out a party cooking for them the other week. Had to open up windows, open doors, literally smoked them out - and these cupcakes just didn't taste like anything crazy out of the ordinary. If I were to recommend one, it would be the Cookie one. The snickerdoodle was dry and just disappointing. And a final note: $3 for a cake pop? Are you serious? They are $.60 cents at the Westside market, and taste MUCH better. $3.00 for a bite of something is just ridiculous.

At $3.75 I may have been expecting too much. But with a very nasty smell upon opening the door, the girl working there not greeting or speaking to us until she told us the told or the dryness and definite boxed-mix taste. I think I will save myself the $3.75 and bake myself something that tastes better. We got the cookie monster and it was really dry tasting and frankly a bit hard to swallow. The frosting was a whipped of some sort but didn't really have a sweet taste or anything. Not visiting again.

I stopped here after lunch to satisfy my sweet tooth. Colossal Cupcakes has a lovely light pink shade with whimsy decor, reminiscent of an Urban Outfitter dressing room or Forever 21 dressing room (except much brighter/pink!) I enjoyed a strawberry banana cakepop that so amazingly sweet with a light moist fruitiness to it. It was nicely glazed with purple buttercream icing that was just about to get to that slightly crispy outer shell. $3.00 is a bit pricey for a cake pop, but I enjoyed the 3 bites it took to finish it. I want to get a colossal cupcake next time and they really are colossal! I just wish they had more than 4 flavors to choose from when I went- maybe it was too busy? This place deserves a trip back.. weekly (esp since I work close by) .. dangerous to my wallet and my waistline (dum dum dummm)

The decor is good. Very eye-catching, pink everywhere. Stopped in on a whim when I was downtown running some errands. Split a confettie champagne cupcake, and had a chai tea. The tea was fine, but more expensive than I expected. The cupcate was large, but tasted like it came from a mix (not disgusting or anything, just not what I was expecting). The frosting was pretty good, but there wasn't much of it compared to other gourmet cupcake shops I've visited. Overall, not worth going back when there are so many better cupcake options around town.

Pros: -Right next door to my apartment (this is also a con because I am not trying to become obese) -huge cupcakes, big enough to split -cute decor (a little frou-frou for my personal taste but since this is a place that essentially sells cute little cakes with frosting I will let the explosion of PINK slide) -good cupcakes Cons: -no plain vanilla (or wedding cake, as some people call it) when i went in I had the banana cream dream or whatever its called. It was banana cake with walnuts and banana cream frosting and it was delicious. Really moist and a good frosting to cupcake ratio. It wasn't the most amazing cupcake I've ever had but this place isn't called Amazing Cupcakes, it's Colossal Cupcakes. And this cupcake, true to form, was huge. All in all, a solid good start but there's room for improvement. From what I saw they don't have 'standing flavors'. Maybe this has changed since when I visited but I'd love to know what when I come in, I won't be bombarded with new flavor combos everyday. I'd like a few standbys.
