A fabulous experience on my second stay here in November 2014; my first was in 2004, and was also a delight. I should not have waited so long to return! My three-night stay at Clifford House last month was as marvelous as my first 10 years prior. If one can improve on perfection, then perhaps it was even better. The host is warm, funny, intelligent, and charming and he cares about his guests' comfort and care. Resident dog Sherlock is a heart-warmer, and Wesley the cat is a feline friend on hello. The house has heart and soul, and the breakfasts are divine. Heading to Cleveland to meet friends there from Cincinnati and another friend who had just moved to Cleveland Heights from Pittsburgh a few days prior, I booked the Schneider Suite on the third floor with a private en suite bath. I opted to use the shower in the shared bath on the second floor, just 'cause I'm more of a shower person. The tub in the Schneider Suite would have worked fine as well. There are some steep steps up to the Schneider Suite, and I appreciated the climb for good exercise, though not everyone might. I've also stayed in the Withington Room, which was just lovely. Jim offered to show me the apartment option before those guests checked in, and what a beautiful spot that was as well. It rained a good part of my stay, and Jim kept me supplied with an umbrella and offered to carry my luggage in from my car when I arrived. Great restaurants and taverns are within a short walking distance as is the West Side Market. My room was clean, comfortable, and cozy. I felt very much at home and didn't want to leave. The fact that this is a private residence where Jim lives full time -- and not where the host lives in separate quarters in the basement as in some of the B&Bs I have stayed in -- makes Clifford House extra special and a true gem. Can't wait to return!

A great experience. Jim the innkeeper and his coon hound Sherlock and kitten Westley made us feel very welcome. The neighborhood is awesome with genuinely friendly people and great restaurants/bars on every corner. Our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was incredible with something for everyone. I eat mostly paleo and my daughter is a vegetarian and both of us were very happy with lots to choose from. The coffee, apple-cured bacon (from West Side Market) and baked grits with cayenne and tabasco were particularly good! We went to the West Side Market to pick up a pound of the bacon before heading out and Jim gave us plenty of ice for our cooler so it would be ok on the trip home to DC. We'll definitely be back!

I came for a visit to my hometown last fall. I decided to stay close to downtown for the sake of convenience. My mom suggested I try The Clifford House, and I'm glad I did. Located a short walk from the West Side Market, it's close to a lot of attractions and cool bars/restaurants. My room was comfortable and roomy (for two), and very clean. I even had my own bathroom. Parking was no problem at all. The owner is personable and fun, and full of information on what to do, and cooked up a decadent Sunday breakfast. I will stay here again!!

Such a cute B&B that makes you feel right at home. We stayed here for one night while driving back to Chicago from Niagara Falls. We wanted to break up the drive, and my husband thought we should stop in Cleveland. From making the reservation to checking in to scheduling breakfast, everything was easy. We stayed in a separate apartment attached to the B&B, and was way more than we needed for our one night stay. We had a full kitchen, half bath, dining room, and living room downstairs and then upstairs was the master bedroom and full bath. Just a ton of space to spread out. Jim decorated the walls with his original paintings, which were really nice. He has everything you can possibly need ready and waiting for you - pots and pans, dishes, board games, toiletries, and tons of books. Breakfast was delicious too. We had asparagus omelettes with fresh sausage that he had just purchased from the market nearby. Jim was great to talk to, and even shared some of his stories with us during breakfast. This review wouldn't be complete without mentioning Sherlock, the resident B&B pup. What a well-behaved cutie. Finally, the B&B is well situated in that it is walking distance to some great food and the market just a few blocks away. We had lunch at Great Lakes Brewing Company, which was maybe a 5 minute walk. I would recommend anyone stay here!

moving out of state, I decided to treat my mother to a stay at the b & b prior to leaving the following morning. We had a great time. Jim is extremely nice, welcoming and accommodating. The house itself is beautiful. Something like 150 years old, it is very comfortable and inviting. We stayed in the third floor Schneider Suite. It is a lovely room with an very comfortable bed and private bath. The original pine wood floors are to die for too! The suite, complete with locally blended coffee and homemade chocolate chip cookies were the perfect touches. Jim accommodated us with an early breakfast the following morning that was more than enough for our travels: eggs, pancakes, fruit, sausage and bacon (from the market) plus coffee and juice! Top that off with great conversation about the history of the house and neighborhood and we felt like we were sitting down for a regular family breakfast. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who is looking to stay in an inviting, homey environment. If you are not into animals do not come, as they are a part of the home and a wonderful addition. The house and neighborhood are wonderful and Jim is a peach!
