This was my favorite place for lunch when I was a kid. The footlong hotdogs are fantastic (plain or with chili and cheese), and the whole place has a kitschy 50's-diner sort of feel. There are little puzzles and games to keep you occupied while you wait for your food - Barrel o' Monkeys, those little water bubble games, peg games, etc. OH! And the root beer! How could I forget? (It IS the Root Beer Stand, after all!) Best root beer I've ever had. They sell it by the gallon jug, which I used to think was kind of silly, but now I totally get it. It's that good. If you don't have at least two root beer floats while you're here, you're missing out.

I always love taking my family to the Root Beer Stand for their foot-long coneys and root beer floats. I went there as a boy after all of our T-ball games. It really hasn't changed much over the past 35 years I've been going there.

Cheap! Freaky Fast! So cute! Delicious! I love this root beer stand. A coworker of mine has been raving about the root beer stand for a year now, so I finally made it out there. What a cute little place- very reminiscent of the drive in diners. The menu ranges from traditional hot dogs to burgers, and even a bbq sandwich with coleslaw, which was what I had. For the sandwich and a very large rootbeer it was only $5! Oh, and did I mention that from the moment I placed my order until when my food was placed in front of me was all of about 2 minutes- and we had the very last seats open!

Ice cold home brewed root beer? Yes please. Maybe some awesome vanilla ice cream that gets root beer crusties when it sits in the mug thrown in there? I think so! A delicious cheap cheeseburger to go along with that? Yes Yes! FAVORITE spot in the summer time. It was on the way to and from high school so I stopped... often... haha. Annnnd I went a lot during the summer. I mean come on. What's better than a root beer float? Small eating area - I usually just got my float to go. You definitely have to try it. It's the best. Ah memories.

Cute little root beer stand with drive-thru. Cash only. Only open during summer. We enjoyed root beer floats. My son had a "grilled cheese" which was grated cheese melted on a hot dog bun (not on the menu but they were kind enough to honor our request for a grilled cheese). My sister had cheese burger. Service was quick and yummy. Wish my sister had tried their chili cheese dog since she's visiting from out of state. Prices were good. She said the burger was delicious. I thought the root beer float was great! My son devoured his sandwhich and liked the root beer as well. Root beer was apparently home made...they even sell it by the jug. Makes me wonder if they could make different types of root beer. That would be fun, like every day/week have on the menu a root beer and a rotating flavored root beer special...or then would that then not be root beer?

One of the few standing independent businesses left. Took the family, everyone loved it. We headed back the next day for lunch there again, and it's super cheap like shockingly cheap. Dinner for 4 with seconds was $21, and that was chips and drinks for all of us.

Was in town last week and stopped in for lunch. Still the best BarBQue & Slaw sandwich anywhere. Get a fork, that's how it's done. SIde of popcorn and a mug of root beer is total heaven for me. Partner got a footlong with chili and everything and it didn't disappoint either. We almost got more food, but seriously, it was just enough. It's fun for kids, too. Little games and you can only sit around the service area so there's plenty to see and watch. Picnic tables outside if you have a group or need to spread out. I've had other menu items but always come back to the BBQ w/slaw and popcorn. Can't wait for my next visit, this is my first stop when I get to town in the summer!

Great little place to stop by and grab a bite for lunch. I use to come here once a week on my lunch breaks but have now moved far enough away that its not practical. Great footlongs.

I'm sorry, but I can't agree with Cincinnati Magazine's 2000-whenever's review of this joint as best place to go. It might be cute to see, but if you're thinking about going there for food, observe from the road and keep on drivin. It's crowded at lunch time, and if you think squeezing into a 2 person deep restaurant with bar stools is fun, well maybe you would like this place. We ordered the Timmy Dog, which we figured was most representative of the place. This foot long, was a flimsy excuse for an everything hotdog. Sure it HAD everything, including cole slaw and chili, but those every-things are supposed to taste remotely good. The bun was soggy, the weiner was whitish and narrow, and the toppings just made for a mess that was sour with tastes that just didn't complement each other. The root beer was fine. But, I'm already over it. Top it with some slow service and food prep, even on a slow night, and you've got a perfectly delightful disappointment. Nostalgia's one thing, but taste's another. Skip this "classic" if you are looking for a meal.

The Root Beer stand has the distinction of being the last of a dying breed. Homemade root beer, uncarbonated, is mixed from well water drawn below the building, then lovingly (seriously, it's been a family thing for decades) brewed and kept just above freezing in a giant vat. The root beer is easy-drinking and smooth, without the bite of Barq's or stickiness of other brands. Hot dogs, hamburgers and sandwiches dot the menu, as well as the ever-favorite root beer float. Walking in, you're transported back to the 1970s, thanks to the hundreds of baseball and trucker hats adoring the ceiling. 80's handheld water games line the upper bar. Little more than a bar surrounded by glass patio doors, the Root Beer stand manages something other casual restaurants lack: charm. The waitresses are always nice, and the owners are most likely serving, as well. BE SURE TO TIP! Open seasonally (Spring through end of Summer), the Root Beer stand is a can't miss for anyone, local or visiting.

This CASH ONLY establishment is terrific. The root beer floats are amazing (and I normally don't like root beer!). Prices are very affordable. Service is quick and personable. My husband and I ate there for less than $10 total. We'll definitely be repeat customers.

We visited 'The Stand this afternoon to try some root beer, finally!! I got a root beer in a mug, and my man got a medium root beer float. I was disappointed that the mug wasn't actually frosty, although it was kind of cold...ish? The root beer was different, but it was what I expected after having read some reviews on Yelp! They were right...it wasn't very carbonated, but it did have a nice vanilla flavor. I would have enjoyed it more if it had been colder and the mug had been frosty! :) The float was good. I liked it much better than the root beer...probably because it was actually cold. (It was a really hot today, okay?) :) The sizes were generous and the prices fair. The service was standard...the girl who took our order didn't smile, and wasn't exactly friendly, but she wasn't terribly unfriendly, either. Just all right. Indifferent. The place itself was okay...again, what I expected. It has its own charm, with the hats hanging from the ceiling, etc. I have to say, though....something smelled weird in there, and I don't think it was food. I really don't know what it was...kind of a urine-y stinky smell. It was really faint, and I have a strong sniffer...but it was kinda off-putting. (I don't really know how else to explain the weird odor...I highly doubt it WAS that...it was probably just the fact that the place is old, haha!) Sorry to be so rough on ya, Root Beer Stand! I grew up going to Dog 'n Suds in Lafayette, Indiana, and I guess they set the bar pretty high. I would return here to get a float to go...heck, they're only $.75! But I'd rather have some Dog 'n Suds!

So you say you don't like root beer, huh? Well then, I dare you to sample the delicious concoction that Sharonville's famed diner The Root Beer Stand offers up. I can't tell you how many times friends of mine have complained when I've dragged them to the old-fashioned joint, "I hate root beer!" they cry. The complaining stops the second the creamy liquid hits their lips. If forced to describe what is so great about the drink, I'd say that the root beer produced by The Root Beer Stand tastes as if a whole scoop of vanilla ice-cream has already melted into it. That being said, somehow the Stand keeps their drink from being sickeningly sweet...I don't know how they do it, but trust me, they do! All root beer is served in freezing frosted mugs, so the concoction is ice-cold and refreshing on hot summer days. On another note, you absolutely cannot visit The Root Beer Stand without ordering a foot long Coney and a bag of popcorn. The foot long is covered in delicious, heart-burn inducing chili that is slightly more reminiscent of "real chili" than Cincinnati's Skyline or Gold Star. The sauce is still thin in accordance with Cincy tradition but the flavor is Texas, not chocolate and cinnamon. Mustard, onion, and cheese top all coneys at The Root Beer Stand. All I can say is be sure to have your Tums close by... The Root Beer Stand is only open seasonally (April-October) and when it's open, it's PACKED. There are only about 25 counter seats inside, so your best bet is to take your food to go or eat outside on the many picnic tables if the weather is nice. CASH ONLY!

Let me get this out of the way first. I really liked my chili dog and that awesome root beer! It was delicious. I am a little surprised that a place that serves burgers, chili dogs, and the like that they don't serve any sides really (no fries, onion rings, etc). And, the cole slaw I ordered as a side was tiny (like the size of a side of ketchup at most places) but it was only $0.75 so that was not a big deal. That said, the service was TERRIBLE! The girls working were friendly, don't get me wrong. but friendly doesn't equal good. If I am there with two other people, they order, and then the server walks away and I have to actually say "Ummm...can I order food too?" and they looked surprised by it, that is not a good sign. If I order cole slaw, yes, I need a utensil to eat it with. If I ask for receipt, don't look at me blankly and then say "you should have one". If I had one, I wouldn't ask for it. I am sure they are young kids (possibly family) and, like I said, they were nice and friendly. But, if I was rating the Root Beer Stand based on food alone, it would have been higher.

A very good, old school root beer stand. Try the cheese Coney. The hot dog is even as big as the bun, which seems to be a rarity these days.

I absolutely LOVE this place! My parents have been taking me and my brother since we were little. The food is always fresh and delicious, and the atmosphere is always fun! The Root Beer is a must try, and everything on the menu (that I've tried) is great. If you want something that isn't on the menu, if they've got it they'll make it for you! So Good! Just saw on their website they open March 30th this year! I can't wait!!!!!!!! ( therootbeerstand.com ) :)

The Root Beer Stand is a hidden gem. Always busy when it's open. We wait our turn for a seat at the bar. My personal favorite is one of their delicious, home made cheeseburgers. The Root Beer is amazing!-- the "elixir of life," as my boyfriend puts it. A root beer and a cheeseburger is all you need to make the perfect summer day.

What could be better on a hot, muggy day than drinking a nice, cold root beer (or float) from a frosty mug? This homemade root beer is probably the best I've ever had. It's not very carbonated, which I think makes it more flavorful. I love it best after the ice cream melts! It's fun to eat sitting at the counter, looking at all the hats hanging from the ceiling or playing with the handheld games they have sitting around. The college kids that work there are friendly- I've never had any complaints about their service! I have yet to eat here, so I can't speak for their food. However, I think The Root Beer Stand deserves 5 stars for the root beer itself! Try the swamp water (a mixture of orange soda and root beer) if you're feeling adventurous!

'Suckin on a chili dog...outside the taste Freeze..." I don't know if chili dogs and root beer are confined to just the Midwest, or if we just do them best. All I can say for sure, is that I have never enjoyed a dog and a 'beer" anywhere else I have stopped, as much as I do here! The Root Beer Stand opened as an A & W Root Beer Stand in 1957. At that time, Sharonville was a small railroad town. The Stand stood on what were then, the outskirts of town on Rt. # 25 (Cincinnati-Dayton Road). That was the main road from Michigan to Florida. In those days, before interstate highways crisscrossed America, a large number of daytime customers were travelers or truck drivers. Many of The Stand's visitors lived nearby. Back then, the vast majority of homes and cars weren't air-conditioned. So, it was a great treat for the family to hop in the car and head out for an ice cold mug of root beer. And the root beer has to be tried to be believed! The property boasts a well that's 280 feet deep. Water from this well contributes to the distinctive flavor of The Stand's made from scratch root beer and makes it taste so good. Except for the addition of exterior siding a few years ago, The Stand looks pretty much the same as it did in 1957. The building was set up so customers were either waited on by carhops or walked up to two screened windows for carryout service. In 1957, all the food and drinks were prepared where the today's waitresses stand and take orders. Today's kitchen was the storage area back then. With the growth of the business and bringing the carhops inside as counter help, more space was needed. Changes were made and completed by the 1973 season. Since then, Cincinnati Magazine has named it as the best place to quaff a root beer in town and ranked "The Stand" in the number 12 slot among the "Top 100 Places in Cincinnati."

I don't really remember how I found out about this place, but I wish I had found out sooner! I got hot dogs and root beer to go once just before they closed for the season, and I'm looking forward to getting more of the root beer once it opens back up. My boyfriend and I weren't really excited about the hot dogs we got, but the root beer was worth the trip. The place itself is cute ... hats hanging everywhere, people hanging out at the counter (because, really, there's not much room in there except to sit at the counter). I'm glad I got it to go, since it is so small.

With root beer flatter than Kansas, my first stop at the Root Beer Stand will be my last. I was in the neighborhood and stopped by for a cold, refreshing beverage. It was an odd time of day for eating, 3:00pm, but the place was packed! Full parking lot, and the super tiny interior was overflowing with people. Folks sat lined up around the small counter, while others stood in line in the one-person-wide aisle. Customer needs to leave? He has to smush himself against everyone to get out. Feeling claustrophobic, I ordered my food to go: foot long hot dog and a large root beer float. After a 10 minute wait, the clerk awkwardly reached over another patron eating at the counter and handed me my food. There's no serving window for take away, so dine-in customers' personal space is invaded during others' transactions. I thought I was going to spill on someone's lap. Once outside, I unwrapped my hot dog. This "legendary" frank was no more than a broiled wiener, similar to what is served in elementary school. The root beer was completely flat, and for the size and amount of ice cream I was given, it certainly was not a drink worth $3.50. I'm a fan of diners, creamy whips, and old school eateries, but the Root Beer Stand was an all-around disappointment. Price per person: $5.00 CASH ONLY.

This takes you back in time. We go for the atmosphere more than the food. The hotdogs are good and the prices are reasonable. They also have flavored drinks, if yo do not like root beer.

Service here was wonderful. Food was well priced and fun...chili was unique (on coney dog). Root beer was tasty. We got a gallon to go (a good deal for homemade root beer). Kids loved this place as well. We'll be sure to stop again when we're in that part of town.

You almost have to be stopping at the light to get a good look at the place because I swear I've driven past this place a lot and really didn't pay attention/look at the place. The hot dogs are great and the root beer is old fashion. It's set up like a old drive thru/rootbeer stand/diner. Cash only, I believe. Perfect for a relaxing on a hot Summer's day. -Steve-

Located in Sharonville at Kemper and Reading Road, The Root Beer Stand is something you have to visit during the summer months. I've been coming here for years and I've never had a bad experience. Their root beer...homemade. The tap is right out back behind the building. Get it in a frosty mug or as a float. AMAZING. Get it by the gallon as well if you want. To go along with it, get a footlong cheese coney. It's serviceable, but not as good as Skyline or Gold Star. Complements the root beer perfectly. It's one of the things you have to do during the summer months. Is is summer yet?

Well, my frustration level has been building over the last few years with The Root Beer Stand. I didn't want it to be this way and have been ignoring it for far too long, but I have no choice but to face the truth. My husband and I typically order the same thing every time, yet they only get it right 50% of the time. Chili cheese sandwich...NO DOG. It's on the menu which is only a 8x10 piece of paper, so it should be well known by the staff. Every season it's a new batch of young eye candy with minimal service experience, but the fault of my frustration typically lies in the careless kitchen staff . When asked to redo the order properly, what do they do? Re-make my dogless footlong? No, they simply slide the dog out of that already made footlong, slap it in a new wrapper and give it right back to me. Do you think I don't know what you've done? Yes, I do. EVERY TIME. I don't even get my monies worth of chili. It makes for a disappointing meal and overall experience. We often feel cheated and underappreciated for our years of patronage. People keep coming to this place because it's a tradition and yes, the chili is good, but mostly for tradition. They remember the good ole days of coming with their parents or grandparents, but over time tradition can be overshadowed by negative experiences. My heart doesn't go racing like it once used to about this place. It's just not as fun. Often times, it doesn't even come to mind. Maybe that's their intention...coasting to THE END. Too bad. :(

I love this place. My family has been going here for what seems like 40 years. I myself was maybe 3 for my first trip over 30 years ago. Traditions like this last over decades when the food is good, the rootbeer is the best you can find and the owner/staff are great. It is a staple in our summer routines and we are lucky to have this gem around. Check it out if you haven't. We love the chili dogs and rootbeer floats. Then take home a gallon so you can make it through till your next visit. I wish I could give it more stars. We are counting down till opening day when I will take my nephew. Passed down through 4 generations, it's that good.

  • Cord R.

The food is awful and the root beer is not worth the trip (and I live 2 miles away). I can see taking the kids once a summer for a float but eat somewhere else. The chili is canned and hot dogs bottom of the line. The burgers are terrible, and grey. I think they steam or microwave them. They don't have fries or onion rings, but if you want tiny bags of off brand chips... you are in luck.

Simply the most delicious rootbeer ever...take that A&W! This is a great secret spot, I can't tell you how many people I've taken here who have lived their whole lives in Cincinnati and never been, it's truly scary! This place is cheap and delicious! A great place to stop on a summers day for a quick lunch. I only have two complaints...one: if you buy a gallon of rootbeer to take home you better drink it that day because it goes flat quick and two: they are not open year round!

  • Karina M.

I won't explain the labyrinthine route I took to find this out-of-the-way gem (let's just say I wrote down directions from I-75, but drove up I-71 instead), I'll just say that it was well worth the journey. You wouldn't expect to find this seasonal spot in such an industrial locale, but then again it much more fitting among warehouses and garages than in an impersonal strip mall. After one sip of my creamy root beer float, I transported to my childhood when my grandma would make me Brown Cows and root beer floats. She'd reminisce about soda jerks and ice cream stands as if they were historical artifacts. And they would be if rarities like The Root Beer Stand weren't around. The bite of the root beer melded perfectly with the rich creaminess of the vanilla ice cream. No wonder this place gets so many raves. The only reason I deducted a star is because this place is so popular that we were unable to eat there for lunch on my boyfriends lunch break. We came back around 3 pm and didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes before we were back in the car savoring our delights. Though I didn't get a chance to try a coney, the smell of them inside the kitschy diner makes me want to return ASAP. Next time, I'll know the way!

This place really can't get much better with its homemade root beer and delicious chili dogs! Service is almost always fast and friendly. It's a little small, and thus is usually very crowded, but they thankfully have outdoor seating. My main complaint is that they only take cash. Twice now I've forgotten and have had to send my husband rushing off to the ATM. If you go make sure to get a root beer float. Yummers!

This is my childhood! I recently took my 6 month old baby there, to start the tradition for him. The chili dog is good stuff. And the root beer is delish. Words cannot express how important places like this are - local joints, with tradition, good food & great people working the place. A true gem.

What a great little "dive". I have heard a couple of people talk about this place since I moved down here a little over a year ago and finally went yesterday, which was their last day of the season. I am so glad I went. Great chili dogs and the root beer is AMAZING!!! Make sure you visit them when they reopen in March. Me and my friends already added it to our calendars to go on opening day. You might want to bring a hat to leave and be hung up from the ceiling.

Another must visit if you are in Cincinnati for any length of time. Great footlong Coneys and even better root beer floats and orange drink. Try the "Timmy," a Footlong with chili, onions, hot sauce, cole slaw, mustard, ketchup, relish, sauerkraut, and topped with cheddar cheese. As the name implies, this is a stand, so while there are some tables it's best to just order your food and get outta the way, because it can get crowded.

The Root Beer Stand is a summer ritual for all in Sharonville. It's in an old drive-up, kind of in the middle of nowhere. You cannot miss it. If you do, just look for a large number of cars parked haphazardly in the middle of nowhere. This place has a lot of wear and tear, but it still has its old-schooled charm. There isn't much seating or standing room in the place, so do not come here if you need a lot of personal space. The service here is fast, and there is a quick turnaround of patrons at the counter. There are also some picnic tables outside if it's too crowded. The coneys here are all right. My boyfriend enjoys them because he can get sauerkraut on them; I like that I don't get dirty looks when I ask for cole slaw on my coney. They use homemade chili at this place, but it's not Cincinnati chili, which I have grown to associate with coneys. The real star of this place is, of course, the root beer. People buy jugs of it from this place. For me, I'll stick with a large root beer float, which is just perfect on a hot day.

Summary: Come for some homemade root beer at this fantastic little mom and pop joint, probably leave with a gallon of root beer to-go. The root beer here has a great flavor and is appropriately sweet. The root beer floats makes a great after lunch, after dinner, whenever type of dessert. You can choose from a selection of ice creams. I opted for the vanilla. There is a selection of hot dogs and burgers available here as well. I found the hot dog very normal and was jealous at the pulled pork sandwich that my friends had gotten. The food is passable, but I'd probably just come here for the root beer float. The shop is friendly and is a quintessential mom-and-pop shop. I enjoyed the root beer so much I even brought home a gallon to-go. Try it! (Cash only)

Great little mom and pop joint. Took the kids there and they loved their hot dogs and frosty mug root beer. There is no officially line, just got yell out when they ask if you ordered. The place is always hopping and full. If you get a chance, stop by and get something to go, or stay and let the kids play on the playground.

Love the idea of this place...food is above average and very reasonably priced. Buns were a bit hard and stale but the burger was great. Love that they have popcorn but hate that they have no fries. They are in bad need of new carpeting and stools. Root Beer Floats are a must here and they didn't disappoint! The service was fast and friendly and I would say that this is a must do for any Cincinnati family this summer.

Awesome chili cheese coneys and root beer! I actually prefer their Coneys over skyline. Their hotdogs are much more flavorful and the chili is a much better consistency which gives a more satisfying mouthfeel. The root beer is very good. Very light. Almost juice-like on the tongue because it is so lightly carbonated. And the best thing is that everything there is under $10. $4 chili cheese footlong? One of the best deals in Cincinnati! The homey feel of the place brings a sense of summer nostalgia that is very hard to find nowadays. Love it!

We only go for root beer and root beer floats but they are enough to draw you in. Especially when Grandma visits! The staff is always very friendly. There is a small interior eating area but the picnic tables out back are the best place to enjoy your beverage when the weather is nice. A definite stop a few times a year.

If we were basing the review strictly off the rootbeer float it would have been 5 stars. I went with my son and I got a foot long coney, he got a foot long hotdog. The coney was ok, have to say I'm wasn't the biggest of the type of chili they use. Not that I was expecting a whole lot, but it wasn't any better than chili from a Speedway. The atmosphere was great however. My 4 year old loved the hats hanging from the ceiling inside. The playground by the outdoor seating was great "after dinner" entertainment. We also were lucky enough to see a train come by (the tracks are about 15ft from the outdoor seating area). Overall it was a pretty great experience, definitely an awesome place to take the kids to eat. CASH ONLY!!!

I have lived in the area for 10 years but just made my first visit yesterday. While they were crowded, the food was ready quickly. Was shocked they don't do french fries but it wasn't a problem. The food quality was good as was the service and root beer. We had burgers and foot long hot dogs. The only complaint was the foot longs needed to be cooked a little longer. Not a big deal though. We will be back soon. Just remember-THEY ONLY ACCEPT CASH! No credit cards.

This place is great. The building and food is simple but always good. The root beer is what sets them apart and a great place to grab lunch in the summer. The menu is very limited but the items they do have they do well. The location isn't the best but it has been around for years. I would highly recommend. Also one thing to remember is its cash only!

Great hidden little gem. Basic drive in. Some of the tastiest root beer I've had (get a pitcher if there's more than one of you, it's the best deal)! Try the foot long hot dog with everything on it: "The Timmy"

Best place to go during the summer. Homemade root beer and hot dogs help get me through the work week! Next time you go make sure to ask for swamp water, it's a delicious mix of the orange drink and root beer. Only open during the summer so I, like many others, will be counting down the days until it reopens.

No flash - just classic root beer floats and greasy food that everyone loves - admit it or not. This place is just downright cool! The root beer stand does simple quick food that reminds you of the grub you would find at a convenient store in your small town that you would hide from your friends that you secretly loved. The stand is small with old school diner bar stool seats. The footlong chili dogs smelled and looked delicious. Most important - the freakin floats. How can you go wrong with root beer on tap?! Served with simple Vanilla that reminds you of the kind you had with your elementary school lunch. The floats are served in styrofoam cups which I weirdly loved. The stand has a collection of sweet trucker hats on display that make you regretful that you didn't have one on hand to add. The staff is genuine and helpful - and make this place feel like it belongs in the south. Unfortunately they close for winter but add this to your reasons to count down to warm weather!

This place was recommended by a native who grew up here with fond memories. I love the mom and pop feel. Definitely seems like a locals joint. Prices are very affordable. I enjoyed their burger and ice cream. The root beer was ok but not enough carbonation for my taste. The orange is also homemade with good flavor but again not bubbly enough for me. I did see people buying gallons of each to go though, so they are popular! The hot dogs are cooked in water. Was hoping they'd be off a griddle for more crunch, but that is just how they make them here. It's a good place for a cheap meal and throwback vibe. Not the best quality but good enough esp if you want to support a family owned joint.

Awesome food, I love the Timmy dog! Their root beer is famous and they make it with well water which is part of what makes it so incredible. It's always very crowded and there's little seating inside but they have a great picnic area outside with a playground for the kids.

Without a doubt the best root beer in Cincinnati! I spend all winter waiting for the Root Beer Stand to open for the season! Small diner eating area, larger outside area for nice days. They're always busy around lunchtime so get there early or plan ahead to wait- it's worth it! Can't go wrong with a mug of root beer, salty popcorn, and a foot long chili cheese (and it's not straight Cincinnati chili)!

The root beer float was great. The floor was covered with a nasty heavily trodden carpet with terrible stains on it. On top of that there was shredded cheese and chips and food laying all over the floor. Had it been cleaner I would have liked it better. The smell was rank too. It had a vent cover on the ceiling that looked as if it had never been cleaned. It made me wonder how the rest of the restaurant was kept up. I was looking for nostalgia but I just kept looking for a clean place to put my feet. Maybe it's not like that all the time cause there sure were a lot of people in there. I just can't see the appeal.

The Root Beer Stand is on the Cincinnati bucket list and tonight we checked it off the list. A warm welcome to this tiny hut, with fun games to play while you eat (because there was nearly no wait). The waitresses were friendly, helpful, and kind to my son...which I always count as a bonus! The food was good, but the ambiance and experience is more of what makes this find special! Now we both just had the hot dog so I'm not sure they could have made it better or messed it up! The float.....yum!

Went there yesterday, it was opening weekend, so it was packed! As a result service was a little slow. Quality wasn't compromised though. It's a great little hole in the wall that gets you excited to support a local landmark. Burgers, foot longs, rootbeer, orange and rootbeer floats, they've gotta them all and they're pretty good at that. It's a unique experience, you walk in, sit down at an old bar and try to get the servers attention. Have your order ready, you won't have to wait to flag someone down again. While you wait, you can talk to those around you, everyone is very friendly, or admire the hat collection. Lastly, have your cash ready, they don't accept cards. And if you have little ones or just want to enjoy weather you can go out back, there's a play ground and plenty of picnics tables available.

I've been coming here since I was a very small child...and it has always been consistently incredible. The chili is probably the best chili for a coney EVER! I've tried to make it at home, and I can never get it...it's incredible!! Then, there's the root beer...THE root beer. Cold, smooth, perfect. Amazing taste that makes pretty much everything right with the world the second you take that first sip. Even though there are many things on the menu that (thankfully) stay the same, they have some new additions that are really good and compliment the menu very well!! With all the change and progress, I hope someone will always honor the value this place brings to Cincinnati and let it stay and serve that root beer perfection and those delicious coneys until Ohio falls into the ocean.

This is a fun place to grab a quick lunch. I am a huge fan of the big Timmy, it Has everything that is good in this world of food on it & their root beer floats are just what you want on a hot summer day.

We like trying the small rootbeer stands and this is by far the best one that we have visited. My son and I are always trying different rootbeers and this place has the best homemade rootbeer that I have ever tried. Nice and smooth and no aftertaste. We stopped here twice when we were in Cincinnati and on our second visit bought a gallon of rootbeer for the ride home. We had their chilli dogs and they were very good. First time my son had mustard with his chilli dog (he had the foot long) and his mind and taste buds were blown away. He can't imagine having a chilli dog any other way now. The service was very good and friendly.

This place just reminds me of summer. I always go for a footlong cheese coney, some fresh popped popcorn, and of course, root beer! This place tends to get pretty crowded and if the weather is bad, there's limited seating inside. Perfect place for a yummy lunch on a beautiful, warm day!

Cool name and a fun drive in or dive in type place. It's cash only but everything is really cheap on the menu, like in the $3 range. Chili dog and cheese dog are straight forward, nothing too special. Pizza burger sandwich is a little different, not certain what the burger patties are in terms of beef quality, also has marinara and mozzarella to give it that pizza taste, sort of.

I'm prepared to fall on the sword and write the review you should read! Ive only been once, but i wont be back. This seems to be a pure nostalgia/kitsch place, the burger is not good. it had a food service taste and was out to me in about 30 seconds. Clearly it was cooked earlier and warmed in a tray. No Bueno! The rootbeer was flat and not that awesome at all. Overall, if you want an ok meal, not the place to go. if you want to visit to reminisce about a bygone era, give it a try.

Out in the middle of nowhere lies a stand. Like a mirage in the desert, it miraculously appears, ready to quench your thirst with sweet treats, fill your stomach with hearty meals and amaze your senses with ... um, a wall of hats? The Root Beer Stand, where they deliver exactly what they name says. Come for the root beer, which is homemade and amazing. Sweet but not overly so, dark, rich, fantastic. It comes in a giant mug and is the perfect addition to whatever you get to eat. Come for the food, mainly the monstrous hot dog. You can make it into a chili Coney but it's delicious all by itself (well, you know, with a little ketchup). Come for the wall of hats. Seriously, the wall is just covered with baseball hats. I asked the waitress what it was about, and she said it all started innocently: someone left a hat behind, so they hung it up on the wall so he could get it if he ever came back. Someone else then put their hat up on the wall and it exploded. Now they have a wall of hats. Most likely, the root beer stand is going to be a drive from wherever you are. They also don't have a great selection of food, so be in the mood for, well, root beer. Plus, cash only, so there is that. Also, it's tiny - just a kitchen and a counter to sit on, so be prepared to get to know your neighbor. But that shouldn't be too hard. Just share a glass with him or her and everything is all right in the world.

American Fastfood Faire at its best. The Chili Dog and Hamburgers are legendary, and of course, you must try the Root Beer Float. I love the company's Facebook page too!

The name of the place is very fitting: it's a root beer stand! Nothing complicated, nothing crazy, nothing over-the-top... simply a small trailer-like shack on the side of an industrial road serving hot dogs, hamburgers, and root beer floats. Their home-made rootbeer is very, very different than any other I've had. It's not very carbonated but it's a lot sweeter than your usual root beer. Their hot dogs are standard, and although I had mine plain, you can order with cheese, chili, and/or onions. Our root beer floats were fantastic, of course. So simple, yet so good. It was like stepping back into every deliciously sweet, foamy, decadent memory I have of making these at home as a kid. The best thing about this place is the value. My boyfriend and I ordered a regular hot dog, a foot-long hot dog, a small root beer float, and a large root beer float (between the two of us) and *including* a generous tip it came to around $13. Our only negative was our service. Though our food came quickly, we spent more time waiting for the waitress to take our money than we did waiting for and eating our food. The biggest disappointment is that they're not open during the fall and winter! March-October are when they are open... so get there before they close!!!

I don't really remember how I found out about this place, but I wish I had found out sooner! I got hot dogs and root beer to go once just before they closed for the season, and I'm looking forward to getting more of the root beer once it opens back up. My boyfriend and I weren't really excited about the hot dogs we got, but the root beer was worth the trip. The place itself is cute ... hats hanging everywhere, people hanging out at the counter (because, really, there's not much room in there except to sit at the counter). I'm glad I got it to go, since it is so small.

  • Megan D.

Yummers!

  • Marisa D.

I always love taking my family to the Root Beer Stand for their foot-long coneys and root beer floats. I went there as a boy after all of our T-ball games. It really hasn't changed much over the past 35 years I've been going there.

CASH ONLY!

Rootbeer is kind of flat. Needs more carbonation.

Great little mom and pop joint. Took the kids there and they loved their hot dogs and frosty mug root beer. There is no officially line, just got yell out when they ask if you ordered. The place is always hopping and full. If you get a chance, stop by and get something to go, or stay and let the kids play on the playground.

Love the family atmosphere and prices. Everything we ordered was a hit. Nice to have the picnic tables and jungle gym in the back for families with kids and those that travel with their four legged family members as well.

Love it!

Try it! (Cash only)

We only go for root beer and root beer floats but they are enough to draw you in. Especially when Grandma visits! The staff is always very friendly. There is a small interior eating area but the picnic tables out back are the best place to enjoy your beverage when the weather is nice. A definite stop a few times a year.

Too bad. :(

Service here was wonderful. Food was well priced and fun...chili was unique (on coney dog). Root beer was tasty. We got a gallon to go (a good deal for homemade root beer). Kids loved this place as well. We'll be sure to stop again when we're in that part of town.

This place is fantastic!! Footling chili dog with cheese and onions and a root beer! What could be better!! Rather have this than a great steak!! Mmmmmmm!

The Root Beer Stand is a neat little spot. I opted for a root beer float but the highlight is really just the root beer. As a tourist though, it's really out of the way and not worth the trek.

This takes you back in time. We go for the atmosphere more than the food. The hotdogs are good and the prices are reasonable. They also have flavored drinks, if yo do not like root beer.

I always love taking my family to the Root Beer Stand for their foot-long coneys and root beer floats. I went there as a boy after all of our T-ball games. It really hasn't changed much over the past 35 years I've been going there.

  • Bethany W.

Yummers!

CASH ONLY!

Love it!

  • KC K.

  • Melissa O.

  • Heather M.

  • Ducky L.

We only go for root beer and root beer floats but they are enough to draw you in. Especially when Grandma visits! The staff is always very friendly. There is a small interior eating area but the picnic tables out back are the best place to enjoy your beverage when the weather is nice. A definite stop a few times a year.

The rootbeer was amazing! The food was good and cheap. I would go again! I think I've found a new obsession.

The Root Beer Stand is a neat little spot. I opted for a root beer float but the highlight is really just the root beer. As a tourist though, it's really out of the way and not worth the trek.

Try it! (Cash only)

There is not much going on here every beer didn't even have much fizz, it tasted flat and the vanilla ice cream tasted like freezer burn
