Came for a Sunday brunch and got the chicken sandwich. It was very good, but it's still just a chicken breast sandwich. A huge cool patio area and a great place to take in a game, but I find it to be a bit overpriced to come solely for a meal. $50 for 2 people (1 app, 2 sandwiches, and 2 soft drinks) is crazy!

Enjoyed our lunch with our kids and some friends. Service and food were good. Chicken tenders were better than most.

This restaurant is about a block from my office, and we affectionately call it the "chicken shack." It's a great place to grab a quick but sit down lunch, we can usually get back to the office in just about an hour. For $8 you can have anything off of their lunch menu + a drink. Their salads are really tasty, and they otherwise have a pretty wide menu. I haven't had anything disappointing there. Bonus points for the fact that when you get a drink refill they usually bring you back a little pitcher of whatever soft drink or ice tea or whatever you had so you don't have to keep asking for refills.

Average at best. Guess I should've had the chicken since it received such high marks. Went with a burger instead topped with grilled onions, mushrooms and Swiss. Ordered it medium, came out fully cooked. Bun was dry and even a bit stale. Burger had little flavor and not juicy at all. Got a cup of clam chowder as my side. It was far from being a homemade recipe. More likely a canned soup warmed up because after a while it turned very thin and watery. Probably would've had the waitress take everything back if I felt she gave a s$@t. Crossing this place of my list of return visit

Love this place and love the Spring House chicken! It's the best - moist and just the right flavor from marinade. I love their cole slaw too. The pulled chicken sandwich is delish too. This time I got carry out for a sick friend and also for our house. The server that brought it out checked it with me to make sure the order was right. And it was!

We ate here on a Monday night and it was BUSY! Sat at the patio bar and watched a Reds game while we enjoyed a drink and the "beach bar" atmosphere. This place seems to have grown since the last time we visited, the patio area is huge and really has a great feel. Ordered the Haddock Special and the half BBQ Chicken dinner. Saratoga Chips and Chipotle Slaw, baked sweet potato for the sides. The chicken was so delicious and perfectly cooked: juicy and tender, very flavorful. This is the "house" food item and rightly so. The Haddock was also excellent and was cooked exactly as it should be: not overcooked with a tasty batter coating. The chipotle slaw was tangy, I'd say medium hot, so probably not for Grandma. Love this place, just be prepared to wait if you are a walk-up. Regular dining hours are always packed, even on Monday nights! But there is a reason for the high demand here, it's really good and really packs some entertainment value into the experience, too.

Even though I hate using this word, I feel it's the only accurate description for their Chicken.... Moist..... Moist..... Moist. There I said it. Anywho the chicken to die for, the ranch is heaven and the atmosphere is chill. Parking can be a challenge and some of the waitstaff can be standoffish. A must visit.

The hubs and I went to Silver Spring House on a Sunday around 5pm. It was pretty lively for a Sunday which we prefer. We were seated right away and the smell of the restaurant made us even hungrier than we were before we walked in. We noticed after the fact, that there are more than one hostess stands that will take you to different sections of the restaurant. We were kind of disappointed because had we known, we would have definitely gone to a different location. We were in the family area which isn't the scene we typically prefer. But now we know! I'm a little torn on the food. I chose the pulled chicken barbeque sandwich with mac and cheese and red mashed potatoes for the sides. I LOVED the red potatoes and the mac and cheese wasn't bad. I would order both again. The pulled chicken bbq sandwich did not satisfy me at all. The presentation was great, and the size was huge! It comes with a small cup of coleslaw to put on it, which is a nice touch. But the flavor of the bbq sauce was very tangy and harsh. I haven't quite had a bbq sauce like that before; it just completely overwhelmed the sandwich. I basically wasted the main dish, so thankfully I had two sides to eat. My husband got the fish tacos, and he didn't enjoy the fact that he had to put them together. Ha. They come out completely laid out on a plate with the fish, tortillas and toppings. He said they tasted ok, but he wouldn't order them again. The fish tacos were 15 bucks and didn't even come with a side dish. They come in a quantity of 3, but they are very small. Our waitress was prompt but not overwhelming. She checked in on us just enough but not too much. I did however feel rushed when she placed the check on our table before we had even finished our beer, or our food. It made us feel like we couldn't order more drinks or dessert. I would prefer she ask if we were ready for the check first. Overall, we liked the vibe of the restaurant and will return to try a different dish on the menu.

I went here for dinner on a Friday night and expected it to be packed with a long wait. I was right about the packed part, but they got me right in and seated. Was quite the pleasant surprise. The service was great. The waitress was very attentive and friendly. No on to the food... So delicious! Had their chicken dinner, didn't want it to end. Their portion size for their half chicken dinner was good sized. Topped it off with a sweet potato and black bean salad, perfect meal. Definitely will be back!

I have gone her a lot in the past couple years and always find it satisfying. I've only gotten the chicken strips for lunch but they are good. It's simple but always good. I love that they have popcorn available. It's a nice appetizer while waiting for my lunch partner (and I don't feel guilty not waiting for them). The service has always been spot on. Always attentive and my meals have always been right. I haven't ventured out from my usual meal but why mess with what works?

I came here last week for happy hour on a Thursday. Thankfully we made a reservation because it was PACKED, even on a Thursday at 7pm. Like, we couldn't even find a parking spot. The food was just ok....Kind of boring American food. I ordered the black bean chicken salad and my fiance ordered wings and fries. The portions were very generous for the price, but the food wasn't memorable. Maybe we should have ordered the chicken instead. We were there with one of my friends who was vegetarian, and there was not much on the menu for him to order. He ended up having to get a pasta dish without meat on it, which was really bland. He didn't even eat it and ended up eating most of my fiance's french fries instead. Too bad they don't have more veggie options... The service was excellent. They didn't even let my water go empty. I liked the decor and the free popcorn too, but I wish the food was a little better.

I could write ballads for this restaurant and it still wouldn't encompass how much I love their chicken. My parents call it "The Chicken Joint" I think because that's what it's old name was. Their menu has various selections such as the pasta marinara which my dad really likes but I always go for their cajun spring house chicken. Their chicken is so tender and juicy and the cajun seasoning adds a delicious kick to it. When my brother and I were younger we would split the half chicken meal and fight over who gets the last piece. My family also likes their sweet potato fries so at least one person usually gets it as a side dish but I've never been a huge fan of sweet potato so it's a pass for me. Also, they don't really advertise this but they do have free self-serve popcorn and peanuts. The peanuts are near the host's stand and the popcorn is on the left side of the restaurant (past the Budweiser double doors of you're seated on the right side) on the back wall. One downside is that this place gets super busy especially during dinner and weekends but the wait is well worth it. The bigger downside is that now I live out of town so I can't come here regularly anymore!

My family and I were heading from Indy to great wolf lodge and Silver Spring house was suggested as a place to stop on the way to grab some lunch. The place was packed so it took us a minute to get seated fortunately that didn't hinder our service. The first thing they did that I liked was they have free popcorn to eat while you are waiting for your meal. Things like this are always nice when you have kids because you can snack for free while waiting for your meal. Speaking of the meal my wife ordered the grilled chicken which they are said to be known for and it was amazing. Some of the best grilled chicken I have ever had. Her meal also came with a side of onion rings which were very good although neither of is really liked the dipping sauce. I had a burger and fries which were both good but neither of them had any real stand out qualities. If you live in Cincy or are going to Kings Island or great wolf lodge I can recommend Silver Spring House as a place to grab a meal.

Being from out of town I wanted to find some good food that is non chain with an interesting and friendly atmosphere. Done! Found it here! This should be a recommendation for anyone out of town looking for good food and comfortable laid back atmosphere. I will go back anytime I'm in the area.

Silver Spring House has become something of an institution in this area. The place always seems to be packed, filling up their large parking lot and some overflow parking at their busiest. The atmosphere is fun, and they have a spacious open air dining area that is especially nice on great weather days. There is free popcorn to enjoy as you peruse the menu and wait for your food to arrive. The menu offers a large variety - salads, burgers, ribs, tacos, burritos, pasta, and more - but they are especially known for their chicken. They also have good Saratoga chips. There is a nice selection on tap - I was especially glad to see Angry Orchard on my last visit. I also get a good laugh out of the fun ways they decorate their sign area for various holidays and seasons. It's a nice touch, and gives you a bit of an idea of the kind of atmosphere they have. Fun place!

Worst service and mediocre food. The food wasn't all that great. Typical bar food with a terrible way to present it. All the food looked like it was slapped on the plate. Servers are horrible here. They never pay attention to a thing you ask for. They just stand in the kitchen and talk to each other all night long. You have to always flag someone else down to get a drink. We're here to eat and enjoy our time. You think servers would want to make some money. I even came in with a big group and we ordered a lot of drinks and food. I surely did NOT tip our server very well. She was lucky she even received a tip from our table. I paid for the entire table and still she was a piece of shit server.

This place has almost no vegetarian options, if any. Mediocre food. Atmosphere and porch is unique and staff was friendly.

If you didnt know any better, you would think there were no other restaurants within 15 miles of SSH based on how busy they always seem to be. Weekday lunch, week nights, weekends...the bar is always packed. The food is better than average bar food. I've had a variety of their entrees and the ribs and fish tacos seem to be the most memorable. Great spot for drinking a few beers (anytime of the week), watching a game, or a meal with family. And don't forget to grab some popcorn while you are waiting for a table!

This is our "Go To" place, anytime we have a business lunch! SSH is just one of those places that everybody always wants to go to! But be forewarned, Get There Early! If you are not there by 11:30 for lunch during the week, good luck :-) It is the local go to "Chicken Joint" and it is delicious! This place is completely packed by 12, inside the restaurant or on the enclosed patio area. They have a private lot, which is filled to the brim as well, you will see people parking across the street and walking. It's crazy!! Seriously, I don't know where they put all these people!! It is a really down home feel with tons, and I mean tons of pictures. Its good for a friendly lunch, but don't expect to just talk business, because it can get loud - even at lunch. The menu is pretty large and you really can't go wrong with anything, my favorite is the Fried Chicken Salad with honey mustard dressing - yummo! I get the lunch portion, and I never even finish it.....I can't imagine what the dinner size would look like...... The staff are extremely friendly and always, and I mean always welcome you with a warm smile!! The only reason I give 4 stars instead of 5 is sometimes, especially if you are with a bigger table, it can take a while for the food to come out. I definitely recommend checking them out! If you love chicken, Silver Spring House is the place for you!

Atmosphere is GREAT! Food... Average. The pictures on yelp are what made us stop. It was edible.. But nothing to get excited about. Definitely go for the atmosphere and have a drink though!

Silver Spring House is one of those places that, when suggested for lunch with coworkers, everybody wants in! It's definitely your great American food joint that's a local gem. They're known for their chicken so....get their chicken. I'm serious, it's absolutely delicious. But go early. This place is packed to the rim during lunch with people circling around and around looking for a parking spot. They've got such a huge lot for parking that they still direct overflow to the school across the street. I have no idea how they fit everyone in there. The ambiance inside is really homey with pictures and collectibles spread out all over the wall. This is definitely not a place to go if you want to have a quiet lunch where you can sit down and chat with your friends, but if you want a good meal at a very decent price and quick service, this is your place. My bill always adds up to about $10, which is standard for lunch and even though there's tons of people, it's never more than an hours lunch. They know this and they definitely respect all their customers' time. If there's a restaurant that knows supply/demand, this one is it. Oh and, did I forget to mention? Go for the chicken. (psst, the 1/4 chicken is enough to fill you up through dinner ;D)

Every time I go here, I never remember what I've ordered in the past. And I've been here a handful of times. The main reason I'm fond of this place is because my coworkers have dubbed it the chicken shack. Meet at the chicken shack. It's a cool place to get lunch and linger a bit on a Friday. Free unlimited popcorn, which shouldn't be a big deal, but it is. Last time I went, I ordered the chicken salad (still remembering). I could've sworn the menu said goat cheese and almonds. But my salad came out topped with your run o' the mill shredded swiss or cheddar, whatever it was, and def no almonds. Disappointing. Also the portion was huge. Putting a fork in it caused an avalanche of leaves on all sides. Ok, I'm exaggerating, but you get the idea--it was enough for lunch, dinner, and then some. Probably best bet is to order a quarter chicken and two sides. Will try to remember that next time.

I'm giving this place four starts because the chicken salad sandwich and fries are down right amazing. I totally enjoyed my meal here. They make chicken salad sandwiches on crescent rolls that are to die for. I really liked the French fries here too...very good seasoning to them. I went during an off peak hour of the day on Saturday. Loved how they had football games on every TV. It's a good place to watch sports if you're into that.

Two stars based solely on the fact that when I'm here, I feel like I'm on the beach in the Carolina's somewhere. Free popcorn is really the only other positive here. Downsides are not limited to, but include: -weak beer list -no AC -expensive painfully average food -insufficient parking -long waits -wait staff with too many tables -worst BBQ sauce I've ever had...Kroger brand BBQ sauce would be an upgrade. My latest visit included a salad with warm wilted leaves and light cilantro and a small, thin and tasteless buffalo breast sandwich. The sad part is that this is one of those places than succeeds because of their location and not their food. In the ultra boring and unimaginative suburbs of Cincy, this is about as exciting as it gets. The other sad part is, I'm sure I'll be back because it's close and popular amongst my friends and neighbors. Pretty depressing huh!

I ate here last night. We weren't too thrilled with the table it was for two people and was super tiny. My fiancé's chair was low to the ground so that was weird and the table wobbled. About the food...no. Just no. Ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which they are supposed to be known for the chicken. Granted the chicken breast itself was huge-- didn't fit on the bun, it was lukewarm, fatty, and tasteless. When we left there was a group of servers standing by the hostess stand. Not one said bye or have a good night. Kind of rude. Won't be back.

Chicken is the best grilled chicken you'll find. Don't muck it up with bbq or Cajun spice, just get the house style. It's a busy place so consider sitting at the bar. We enjoyed attentive service with a wide brew selection. It's one of my favorite places in town and stop in every time I'm here.

I love Silver Spring House. Or as it is affectionately known by regulars, "The Chicken Joint." I've noticed that the general consensus is that you either obsessively love SS, or you like it but don't get what all the hype is about (and this joint gets HYPED). I formerly fell into the latter, but now I'm squarely aligned with the regulars. I almost can't put my finger on WHY I love it so much, but Spring House is just SO GOOD. And consistently so. Nothing beats a weekday lunch here. It's an independent, locally-owned joint, but with the space, crowds, and uniformity of a much bigger chain. Both things are very good in my book. I love seeing an independent restaurant just KILL IT with crowds, but because it offers a great product. The outdoor seating is great when weather is warmer, but it gets crowded like crazy during lunch and right after work - clear favorite for off-the-clock (and sometimes on-the-clock) happy hours, so I have no problem sitting indoors, where seating is usually more obtainable. The ambiance is kitschy (hello, endless free popcorn machine of ridiculously addictive, salty yellow-fakey-buttery yumminess), cozy, family-friendly but youthful, work professionals mixed with big family reunions mixed with couples dates mixed with people who just want bar drinks. I've been here in each of the aforementioned capacities. The food is great, and the service is consistently good. I've never eaten anything here that wasn't tasty and fresh: Saratoga chips, loaded potato skins, wings (crispy and meaty), burritos, chicken fingers (more like chicken slabs), salads, sandwiches, chili (REAL chili - with beans!). My favorite is the BCJ sans bun (sub chicken) with the crinkle-cut or sweet potatoes fries, dipped in their house-made Ranch. RIDICULOUSLY huge portion, I need a nap afterwards, but it is just delicious and satisfies your every gooey-cheesy-bacony-crunchy-grilled-creamy craving. Another favorite is the black bean salad with the Cajun chicken. This salad is so, so delicious, with a tangy cilantro dressing and lots of perfect chicken (they are the Chicken Joint, after all). It's a diverse menu, too - I've heard great things about their potpie, pizza, and bone-in chicken offerings, but it's hard for me to stray from my favorites. This is going to sound weird, too, but their green beans are amazing. They are crisp, fresh and speckled with coarse salt - when I'm trying to be virtuous, I even sub them for fries and dip them in the Ranch dressing and they are a tasty low-carb alternative. The prices are reasonable for the food, and the service is always consistently good. There are a couple servers there who are rockstars, who remember your exact order from a month ago, and effortlessly manage to refill drinks (or drop off your own personal mini pitcher, too cute), wipe up spills and drop off checks with uncanny perfection. But even the sub-par service there is still good service (does that even make sense???). One time, I had a hair in my green beans (happens): I barely blinked and the server quickly replaced them with a fresh piping-hot order and refused to charge me for my entire meal, even though I hadn't been inconvenienced at all. No big scene of getting a manager, no brush-off, just great service. I can't count how many times I've eaten here, and I highly recommend it to others!

Silver Spring House's tagline is "The Chicken Joint" which combines two of my favorite things: chicken and joints, but usually in the opposite order. At any rate, my love for all things chicken brought me to this restaurant but it isn't what will bring me back. This place has chicken in any way imaginable: grilled, fried, rotisserie, chopped up in a salad, stuffed in a quesadilla, or served on a bun. They could have named this place Bubba Gump's Chicken Co. for real. They also offer an assortment of other typical American grill fare such as burgers and ribs. From what I've read on Yelp and in Cincinnati Magazine people are crazy about the Spring House Chicken which is a grilled half chicken. I tried it and although it was good, it wasn't the highlight of my dining experience. The star of the show at Silver Spring House isn't even on the menu. It's on the table. And it's their barbecue sauce! Their BBQ sauce is like liquid crack cocaine to me. They call it spicy but to me it's mild with a tangy sweetness to it. I can't tell if it's notes of cinnamon or citrus but whatever it is I would like to bathe in it. In all honesty, if it was politically correct I would have stuck a straw in it and drank it from the bottle. So what's this mean for the food on the menu? It's all money. If only because you have this amazing BBQ sauce on tap at the table to lather your food in. As for my experience, the potato skins were good, but dipped in BBQ they were dank. The Spring House Chicken was very good, but dipped in BBQ they were amazeballs. And my sweet iced tea was refreshing, but I would have rather been drinking the BBQ.

Just be aware the service is awful. We had to flag down our server three times to order. She got the orders wrong, too. The food is mediocre at best. We ordered a variety of things. Two of the hamburgers came out burned and dried out. They did take them off the bill. There are much better places to spend your money. We won't be back.

great bar food. Best onion rings anywhere. Just wish the host/greater would have treated us better. We asked for our party by name (was part of large group). there were 2 girls and one seemed "put out" to seat us. Never smiled. Mumbled and only said a couple of words. We just followed her, not sure why she was so miserable. Other than that bad experience, I know that its very tasty and fun to be there. If it had been my first time, I maybe would rethink going back. Those who are working with the public like that need to realize how important their attitude is to the success of the business.

Will not be returning. My experience: Arrived before the lunch rush with a small party. Wait staff took some time to bring drinks and take an order, which is expected at lunch. The actual food took quite a while (over 30 minutes) to arrive, and one member of our party received their meal 10 minutes after everyone else (despite it "coming right out"), while the table was ignored by the wait staff. No price concession was offered by wait staff or management for this. In the 90 minutes we were there, one drink refill was offered. My particular order was a salad for $11 that came in a small bowl with no discernable dressing, but some tasty chicken. There are so many restaurants with equal (or better) quality food, better prices, a better atmosphere, and better service in this immediate area. There is no reason for me to ever want to spend my time or money at this establishment at any point in the future.

Surprisingly great salad. Fresh but simple. Also asked for my burger medium rare and got it just like that... Which is surprisingly hard to come by these days. Atmosphere is fine, it's a bar type place so don't go wearin a suit. But a great place for some beers with friends for sure. Service couldn't have been better.

Stopped for lunch and had the quarter dark chicken off the lunch menu. Had the mashed potatoes and the black bean salad. Everything was tasty though I thought the chicken was small. Perhaps it's their lunch portion. Service was good. Hostess seated me right away and was friendly. My waitress was the bartender and was very efficient and keep my drink full. One minor thing and even as I type this it sound a little picky but the waitress never smiled. I kind of felt like she was "doing her job". When I eat somewhere I want to feel like they are glad I came in. Like I said this was small potatoes and she was a good waitress. Great place and I will be back.

"The local watering hole." I live within a mile of this place and EVERY time I drive by it is packed, so I knew I had to try it. We got our table quick after being told it would be 35 to 40 min. And it was only about a ten minute wait for the food. They make the drinks STRONG. lol. I ordered the chicken (dark meat, they give you a choice) with a side of Mac n cheese and mashed potatoes, I LOVED the mashed potatoes and the food was actually way better than I expected... For bar food!

My wife and I went here one night after cruisin for a new place to try for dinner. Many people have recommended this place to is. The atmosphere was great. The somewhat outdoor patio area was awesome. Beer selection was good. Food had much to offer and a wide variety. We will definitely be back.

Spring House chicken is good, but they can't figure out how to change the TV's to watch the NCAA tourney game (couldn't get the Xavier game on more than a couple games today,) Maybe they could get rid of the big screen Keno monitors.

Good and drinks a little on the pricey side but not too bad. Free peanuts and popcorn. Lots of big screens. Great atmosphere especially in summer when they have the chance to open the doors and windows up. My favorite is the buffalo chicken wrap

Typical pub type food. Not a bad place to stop if your just looking for something to tame your hunger, but this place definitely isn't going to wow you with there food. The chicken is good. The burgers are ok. The beer selection is decent.

Great chicken with a nice bit of heat in the barbecue sauce. Cole slaw is crisp and creamy (I am a slaw junky) and the potatoes are baked, not microwaved. I love the little pitchers they leave at the table so you don't have to wait for drink refills.

  • Todd R.

The chicken is amazing, better than Montgomery inn however their BBQ sauce is good but unique. I also love their coleslaw, wedge salad and their onion rings are big and so tasty you may fill up before you get to your roast chicken.

  • Bill E.

It has been packed every time I come in, but very easy to get a table. My advice get the famous half chicken, but skip the sides they are frozen and tasteless. The mac and cheese was from a Kraft package and the fries were frozen as were the chips and others. Service has been OK, with it seeming one server has all the tables in the section and also has to get there own drinks.

I stopped in here for lunch the other day. The chicken sandwich is no joke. I went with cajun style and it was delicious. The service was good and the open air seating is nice on an unseasonably warm fall day. My only compliant is the crinkle cut fries were disappointing and cold.

  • Jay G.

As other reviewers have noted, the bbq chicken is great, the sides stink, and if you get a table, you may have to order drinks from the bar. Which brings me to my biggest complaint. The nights I have been there the tables are full and the bar is empty. Wonder why? The bartender is a bossy old man who needs to be let go - not a fun experience. That said, the atmosphere is otherwise a 10. It's the best outdoor bar I've been to. Be aware of the issues and enjoy yourself.

Trying the house specialty, half a chicken with 2 sides. Place is packed on a Wednesday night. The Christian Moerlein Over-The-Rhine ale is awesome and a local Cinci brew and brewed right downtown. OMG... Chicken was awesome and so juicy and tasty. The skin was so crispy it literally melted in my mouth. The chicken is really all you need but if you do want a side, you can't go wrong with the onion rings. You'll get a ton but you don't have to eat them all. I didn't order anything else so can't review the other options. Did I mention the Christian Moerlein Over-The-Rhine ale was awesome? Need to find some more of that stuff. Wish it was sold locally in Atlanta --- maybe it is and I just need to track it down.

I come here often because it is close to work and the food is good. Their chicken is really good. It's kind of a surprising place because a lot of ritzy folks come here, despite its dive bar undertones. Great place to come when the weather is nice, though, because they open up the bay windows and it always feels like I'm on vacation.

I have to start out by saying that I have enjoyed having drinks and eating here in the past. I decided to stop in with my 2 daughters tonight for dinner. The girls are 6 and 2. I ordered them both a chicken strips kid's meal. The kid's menu says the $5.99 meal come with a free drink. PARENT BEWARE - it is only FREE if you want your 2 year old to have a soda. Are you kidding me. I have been here in the past and don't ever recall being charged $2.50 for a small white milk. While they comped my two milks "this time only" I have to say how disgusted I am that a business is not clear on there menu and then proceed to make you feel like you made a mistake. How many people think that an appropriate free drink for a 2 year old is a soda. Clearly, the owners of the Silver Spring House do. Unfortunately, I don't think the management of the Spring House cares. They are always busy, so I doubt they read their reviews on Yelp. I have to say that I will be headed elsewhere with the girls. Places where a 6 year old and 2 year old can eat for less than $8.50/child plus tip. The only person that seemed horrified by the whole thing was the waitress who was only working her second day. I gave the caring waitress 20% because I did not think she should get shorted. The only thing I can do to impact management is to not come back.

Fantastic family friendly casual (non chain) restaurant. We take our kids frequently for early dinners. The kids really love the popcorn machine. The wings are amazing - we order them every time!

We had the Spring House Chicken. So deliciously tender with just the right smoke and char. The sweet potato I had with it was so soft and fluffy it was almost soupy. Almost! The coleslaw was also delicious. I dipped my chicken in the bbq sauce that had a fair bite of heat to it with just the right amount of sweetness. We've been tired of chicken lately but this made us love it again We'll be back for more!

Always love going to the Silver Spring House. Happy hours in the garage or just a nice meal and drink are always fun here. The atmosphere is very hustle and bustle but I still feel relaxed when sitting at a window table watching a game or just the people. The food is always consistent and they have Landshark so that is a plus in my book! If you want quiet and white table cloth then go elsewhere. However if you want sports bar feel with a social, energetic setting then I highly recommend the Silver Spring House. The owners are always around and want to make your experience the best they can!

Great food, great service! We've wanted to try it for years and finally did here recently. I would recommend going on an off night because we went on a Friday and it was packed. It was hard to even find a parking spot. The chicken is what their known for and it was excellent. We also tried their version of potato skins which they make using thick cut fries and they were to die for. Look forward to returning very soon!!!

Great food. Chicken is awesome. Cool atmosphere. When it's warm they have the roll up windows. Good beer selection as well.

My husband considers himself to be a chicken connoisseur and suggested this place for lunch one day. I was intrigued. The interior reminded me of a sports bar with TVs everywhere, a casual atmosphere, and tables jam-packed with patrons. Their lunch specials were a pretty decent deal. $9.99 got you an entree, a choice of side, and a soft drink. I don't know what it is, but I have a weakness for drinks that come WITH a meal vs. having to pay separately for them even though I know that just means the cost is built in. Let's get down to business: Food: 4 stars Chicken Salad Sandwich: Holy cow, this was a huge sandwich! When they said "croissant", I imagined one of those tiny things you see at hotel breakfast trays. This one was the size of a t-bone steak with one heck of a scoop of chicken salad. One of the best CS sandwiches I've had, but I kept poking at my husband's chicken because that just stole the show. Spring House Chicken: Amazing flavor - especially the skin - and cooked very well. The skin had a perfect bit of char while the meat was nice and moist. I hate dry, chewy chicken and this was the exact opposite. I'll be ordering this the next time. Saratoga Chips: A disappointment. The chips were soggy and bland. Chicken Noodle Soup: Tasted pretty much like any other chicken noodle soup. Service: 3 stars Our waitress seemed like a lovely person but was quite harried and service was a bit slow. This is of course due to how busy the place was and comes with the territory. Verdict: Good food and decent prices. I'll definitely be back, but will try again on a less busy day. Though I'd technically give this 3.5 stars, I'll round up for the food.

I've been to this place more times than I can count. It's a huge restaurant and is packed at all times, both lunch and dinner. Usually you would think that means that it's amazing, but I've never been blown away by their food. They're packed for lunch because they have very little competition for the P&G and GE lunch crowds. My office is just down the street, and I eat here once a week - usually get take-out though. The food is good, not great. I do like their Guac on the wild side... spicy chicken breast smothered with guacamole. You can get it as a wrap or a sandwich and have a choice of a dozen or so sides, including chili, salads, and the standard fries/chips. It's worth visiting if you're in the area, but I wouldn't drive out of the way to go there. Prices go up everytime they add more flatscreen tv's... even though the quality of the food remains average.

I ate here for the first time on a Tuesday night, with a group of 24 women - we'd made reservations. Our waitress Katie did a GREAT job of getting our drinks & food!! I ordered the strawberry almond salad - it was very tasty, the chicken on it was very good, there weren't many strawberries on it but it was still yummy. The lemon-cello martini was also very good and one was enough since I was driving:) Everyone enjoyed their food and drinks - no complaints.

Went to the Chicken Place! I ate at the Silver Spring House yesterday and got the chili and chicken taco salad. The chili is not Cincinnati-style chili (cause I am not a fan of that) - but its good chili and not spicy. You can get it topped with onion and cheese. The chicken taco salad was also good. Instead of shredded or pulled chicken in the salad, the Silver Spring House tops the salad with diced white meat. Normally, I get the wing appetizer and onion rings for lunch. You can't go wrong with the wings and rings (sounds like another place, hmmm). The downside - I've rarely been to this place when it wasn't busy or the parking lot jammed up. That should tell you something about the place. It's a minor inconvenience, but the food is worth it.

Been going here since it first opened. Place is always packed which is a good sign. Owner is always on site-Joe Smith. He doesn't forget a name. I would say food is good-not great. It is pricey. Atmosphere is good-free popcorn & peanuts. Did have one bad experience. Was there in February on a Wednesday with a group. Sat along a wall next to the kitchen. We didn't realize that we were the last group in the place. Apparently the wait staff wanted to go home so they had kitchen staff beat the crap out of the wall ajacent to where we were sitting making unbelievable loud noises trying to get us to leave. Really?? After 15+ years of patronizing this place?? Couldn't you just say something? Really tainted my opinion of the place. Haven't been back since-but I doubt they care.

This is one of my favorite places to hang out, get a beer, and have some chicken. The only drawback for me is how crowded it gets. If you aren't there early, the wait is obnoxious. It's nothing fancy, but a great neighborhood location.

Best Lunch Value in town. Food is delicious, a very high quality and all of the servers are genuinely pleased to help the customers. It's an excellent restaurant that does very well during the week. I would encourage any lunchtime diners to arrive around 11:30 or you might have a bit of a wait.

They have really good, grilled chicken. I always sit at the bar and prefer that Mallorie makes my drinks. She provides excellent, efficient service, even when she's by herself.

This neighborhood institution is pretty much always packed unless there are record high temps - at these times even their genius ventilation system of garage doors and zillions of fans cannot keep this joint cool. There are lots of beers on tap, but it's pretty much your garden variety of beers. I think Sam Adams seasonal is about as wild and crazy as it gets. But don't forget the free self-serve popcorn. This combo can sustain you for many sporting events on their numerous flat screens. The food is sort of a ripoff. The chicken is pretty good, but that's about it. My favorite sandwich is the "Guac on the Wild Side" and I make sure to order by its full name so that everyone involved is sufficiently embarrassed by this sandwich's ridiculous name. There are other ridiculously-monikered menu options. Hail Caesar salad and the "Breast of Times" menu section certainly come to mind. Other eye-rolling features: ads in the bathroom stalls and coasters with the number of a DUI attorney. Stay Classy, Silver Spring House!

This is where I take all my out-of-towners when they come for a visit & they are always impressed. They don't call it "The Chicken Joint" for nothin'! But this place does so much more & does it right! Of course the standard order of "1/2 Chicken, BBQed" is always a hit, but they also do a great Pork Chop, Burrito, Fried Fish, Burgers, Chicken Sandwiches, Salads & my personal favorite...BBQ Ribs! The BBQ sauce is unique. Just the right amount of heat to it with a sweet & tangy flavor. Love that they keep a bottle of it for you on the table so you can add some to your Road-House Skins or Saratoga Chips. Wait staff is always friendly & you will always see the owner walking around. Very hands on making sure that everything is running smoothly & that his guest are well taken care of. Friday & Saturday Evenings are busy, you will have to wait for a table, but if you don't like to wait then come for lunch or a non-traditional evening out, during the week...but please don't stand there complaining, you knew it was busy when you pulled in to the parking lot. The people standing next to you having a good time don't want to hear your whining. Go grab some of the free Peanuts out of the barrel at the front bar of free freshly popped Pop-Corn outside {not really outside...but that what they call it...it's an open air area that is great during the warm months & sealed up tight during the cold ones so they can maximize their seating} & an Adult Beverage & enjoy the atmosphere & the company your with. Love, Love, Love THE SILVER SPRING HOUSE!

I recently went back a couple of times with some friends. I tried their chicken salad on a croissant and boy, it was out of this world delicious! It's just bursting with marvelous flavor! However, if you don't like red onion, I'd stay away from it. It was huge and priced right. We hung out at the bar with some of the regulars and they were a friendly bunch. Apparently, we were at the 'perverted corner', which is probably why we fit in so well! HA! It was all easy going and good fun.

This restaurant opens its doors to our large crowd on a weekly basis. Our waitress, Melissa, makes her way through sometimes 30 people to serve us well. Great chicken dishes- wings, salads and plenty of popcorn and peanuts to snack on while drinking a beverage.

  • Todd L.

I am really trying to understand what is good about this place. Yes, the chicken does taste okay, but it is really hard to make chicken? It is just bar food in a dirty atmosphere. The place could use a really good scrubbing and the service is horrible. Save your money and go to a good place.

  • Cindy H.

Great chicken. Very reasonable prices. Nice casual atmosphere and good waitstaff. I typically don't order chicken in a restaurant, but was assured this was their specialty. SO GLAD I did! Had the blackened chicken the first time, it was excellent. Ordered the BBQ by mistake the second visit, it was every bit as good! I'm not a big BBQ sauce fan, but theirs is a perfect match for their chicken! Prices are definitely reasonable, the atmosphere is definitely relaxed. And they're open pretty late, too!

Called on a Friday at 11 right when they opened to place a to-go order. Picked up 3 salads for a management meeting and TWO of the three salads had raw chicken on them. When I took them back to get my money back, the manager seemed unconcerned and only offered "Sorry, I hope you'll try us again". Uh, no. When you are called the "chicken joint" and cannot even cook it properly, that's concerning.

I rarely eat at Silver Spring because I think it's overpriced, but the drinks and beers are reasonable. I, and everyone else in the area, enjoy sitting in the "outdoor" bar area with the windows open and a strong breeze blowing through. The draft beer selection consists mostly of macro-muck Bud and Miller foreign and domestics, but SSH also has local Moerlein favorites and a couple of Great Lakes offerings. The food is decent. Their best offering is anything chicken. Everything else basically fails because of mediocrity and high prices. I only eat when someone else is picking up the tab. There's free popcorn to munch on as well. There is free wi-fi, and way too many TV's for sports and Keno. Big parking lot.

Silver Spring House is always at the top of my list when I come home for a break from school. The service can be slow sometimes, but the food is very good and I love the atmosphere. Most of its regulars come from the Symmes, Montgomery, Loveland, Landen, Mason and Blue Ash areas. If you're from any of these places, you're bound to know plenty of people on any given night. It definitely has a neighborhood feel, which makes it even more fun when you stop in for a bite. Sitting inside is okay and the inside bar is often way too noisy. "Outside," however, is where it's at. It's always packed, even during the middle of the week, and the TVs are always on with all of the best games. If you just want to eat with friends and family, then it's the right place for you, so long as you don't mind it being loud. And if you want a drink, they have an outside bar too. The restaurant's specialty is the Spring House Chicken, although I prefer their many delicious chicken sandwiches. The saratoga chips that come with sandwiches are a nice compliment to the meals, while a side salad with ranch is always a great starter. Be sure to hit the free popcorn machine before your meal too, especially when it's packed and the service is a bit slow. There is usually a wait, although it's typically shorter than they say, but either way, it's always worth it. Unlike most restaurants, waiting never seems to be a big deal at the Spring House because there's always someone to talk to or a game to watch. That's why everyone keeps coming back to "The Chicken Joint."

Four of us arrived for dinner at 6:30 on a Thursday night. The place was absolutely packed, but surprisingly we only had to wait a couple minutes before getting a booth. Even more amazing was how quickly our food came out! We shared a couple decent appetizers - the potato skins and the cheese sticks. For entrees, we ordered the fish tacos, the turkey burger, the "guac on the wild side" chicken and the signature Spring House chicken. Everyone was very pleased with their orders. I thought the Spring House chicken was very good (though not the best I've ever had). I'll probably try something different next time because they had a lot of nice choices on their menu. Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely come back. It's perfect for a casual dinner or a happy hour with friends or co-workers.

Consistently disappointed with the food here. Fish tacos were badly overcooked. for being a "chicken joint," the chicken isn't even very good. The atmosphere on the indoor/outdoor patio is one of it's only redeeming qualities. They get a disproportional amount of business because it's one of the only non-chain restaurant/sports-bars of it's kind in the area.

This is our families favorite restaurant in the area. All items on the menu I have had have been above average for bar food - of course chicken items are wonderful. Also, even the ahi tuna salad was cooked just right (surprising for what is basically a fancy bar food menu). Of course my favorite and favorite of most people I talk to is the pulled chicken barbq on croissant. A couple years ago my complaint would have been that for a higher than average priced "bar food" place their beer selection was not very good. But this has changed lately for the better. And if you have kiddos like we often do, the fact that you can help yourself to popcorn and peanuts is a big plus! The only reason for the drop in star is that our only complaint is that it always very very crowded and you have to put your name in two different places and often go back and forth to check - we have been missed because we didn't hear our name a couple times. Highly recommended!

American pub. Actually its the Chicken House to us locals ... and I live within spittin' distance. Chicken dominated pub food. There's a free popcorn popper on the back wall and a well stocked bar with several good draft choices. Everybody goes there. After ball games, after work, for the many small celebrations or commiserations we share communally. Local business gets done here. Bearcat, Xavier, Buckeye, Princeton, Sycamore, West Chester, Mason, Moeller and Loveland fans all co-exist here. Sometimes so do Democrats and Republicans ... Sometimes we're just good neighbors and that's a good thing to share in our local watering hole.

Honestly, I don't how my first experience there this week could have been made any better. The food was amazing. The house salad with the basil vinaigrette was WOW so so good. The asparagus (ask for ranch to dip it in, secret we learned from our waitress) was cooked and seasoned perfectly and the chicken, WOW, was DELISH!!!! and oh so tender and then we threw some of the barbeque sauce on it which is on the table and it was just awesome. We will definitely go back. Oh yeah, one last thing, if you go in the bar inside, there is a barrel of peanuts. I love munching on peanuts while drinking my beer!! Reminds me of the ole 20 Mile House. Now all they need is a huge block of cheese, haha. Definitely two thumbs up on this place!!

SSH is great for lunches, dinner, or late night. The food is very good (baked sweet potato is incredible) and the drinks are usually strong. Enough TVs, though they could have larger ones. Relaxed atmosphere on both side. Full menu is available on both sides, but the north side is more like a restaurant, while the south is a traditional bar with high tables. The restaurant side opens up with garage doors for windows. The parking lot may be packed (to the point you cannot find a space), but there is likely room in the place.

If your Old favorite sweatpants were a restaurant, they would be the silver spring house! The food is reliable and good, if not exceptional. You won't go here and walk away disappointed, but you probably won't walk out saying 'that was awesome!' It's a cut above typical bar food, but it's also more expensive. Definitely a locals place, which is a good thing. It's near work, so i've been quite a few times, I haven't had anything bad.

Popular with all the locals, eat inside or out, food is great and reasonably priced. As a bonus there are free snacks: popcorn and peanuts. Many people enjoy their favorite sports team on the many flat screen tv's. I enjoy their special chicken recipe and black bean salad. Yum!

Really really good chicken...that is what they are known for. Busy happy hour crowd was intimidating from the overpacked parking lot. Once we walked inside, we were immediately seated. Parties of four or more were on a slight wait. This was a Friday night. The menu is way too Cheesecake Factory-ish. The spiral bound menu with ads on the left and too many items on the right. I believe they are related to Putter's restaurant. Not sure though. The service was slightly less than average. Lots of young girls who are there for the money and not for the Silver Spring House. The food was fresh. My wife had the club which she really enjoyed. The bacon was extra good. I had the black bean chicken salad with cilantro dressing (correct me if I am wrong, but it is a water based dressing without much flavor). The saratoga chips were good- just like anywhere else and the barbeque sauce was pretty bad due to citrus flavors being added to it. A lot of carry out was taken from this place while we were dining in. At the very least, the happy hour crowd was young and "in". Make sure, if you bring your kids, it is not during happy hour or during their peak times. Perhaps then your server will be more personable as well. I got the feeling she didn't like us because our total tab was only $23. Tough s***. Probably won't go back, as there are so many other places just like this one.

Silver Spring House is ALWAYS packed. The first two times we attempted to dine there we couldn't find a parking spot in their rather large lot, so we nixed the idea and went somewhere else. This week we decided to avoid the lunch crowd and dine at 1:30! Voila! We got a table without a wait. I really like their huge indoor/outdoor patio. The breezy screened in patio allows guests to enjoy the summer air without worrying about cicadas landing in their food. However, there isn't much light on the patio other than the ambient light from outside, which might make the menus hard to read for some folks. Both my bf and I ordered the 1/4 chicken breast and wing lunch specials, which was accompanied with two sides. My mashed potatoes were decent and my side salad ample, but I didn't touch them once I tasted that succulent chicken. No wonder Silver Spring is known as the "The Chicken Joint." The roasted chicken meat was seasoned with a scrumptious dry rub and then roasted to perfection. I don't know that I've ever had roasted chicken that was as good. My quarter chicken breast was so full of meat, I can't imagine what a whole chicken breast would be like. Not until I was almost finished did I notice the bottle of BBQ on the table. I dabbled a little onto what was left of my chicken breast to make a zesty version of pulled chicken breast (which is also on the menu, btw). Though the chicken doesn't need extra flavor, I really enjoyed the BBQ sauce. I can't give them five stars because I wasn't wowed by the side dishes and they had advertisements in their menu (big pet peeve). But otherwise I really enjoyed my meal. So skip the sides and fill up on the chicken--that's my advice.

Side dishes are terrible (I usually just get mixed veggies or baked potato). Stick with the chicken and you'll be fine.

Silver Spring House is hands down my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. I have been coming here since I was 10 years old and it was a tiny restaurant with like 10 tables. Now its huge with an outdoor bar area and is always packed. The food is great and the Pete's Special is one of my favorite meals in the entire world. I recommend this place to everyone I know!
