You can't get more old-school than Red Fox. If you're downtown and looking for cheap, fast, no thrills but good eats, this is the place to go. I had a business meeting and we needed a spot. I suggested here since I'd never tried it and she agreed. I got there just as they were opening and they told me to sit anyway, so I did. The waitress asked if I wanted anything and I said I was waiting for someone. She told me she'd be back and I pulled out my laptop to start working. They never bothered me. Even when she was 15 minutes late and I still hadn't ordered anything, they still didn't bother me. I love that. When she did arrive, they handed us menus. It's your basic diner fair at diner prices. Burgers are about $6 with fries (and I suggest getting the fries, since they're good.) The burger was tasty, nothing amazing or worth writing home about, but a solid lunch diner burger. At the end, you get your check but then go pay at the counter by the door. Luckily the person I was with knew this or I would have sat there forever (not that I would have minded, mind you, since it was a very pleasant afternoon.) Service was good, lunch was good, place was good. All in all, an easy four stars.

We've been going to this place for lunch for many, many years. It's always been cheap and fast, with enormous portions. I actually haven't had anything there that wasn't good. Any more, however, it's annoyingly chintzy. We've gotten used to the fact, and even laughed about, how they "can't" give you a lemon for your water, but they can if you order a soda. We also roll our eyes at how they have a limited number of ketchup bottles and if you appear halfway finished with your fries, the waitresses come by and take it away. No more for you! If you get a to-go order, expect your sandwich to be half the size of when you order in. Ordering in gets you a side of chips that always appear to have come from the bottom of the box. To-go orders - no chips for you! If you're eating in and the waitress FINALLY returns to offer you a refill, you can only have the refill IN the restaurant - no to go cups from the dining room. Add that to the general dirtiness of the floors, surly attitudes of better than half of the wait staff and the super-cheap owners. This place is good on a "I'm feeling broke" day, but otherwise, it's lost any charm it ever used to have. It's also "CASH ONLY" which is fine for us old-timers, but for people new to the place, there is always a look of bewilderment "no cards??" really?? in 2015? No. they wouldn't want to pay those pesky fees in order to keep customers.

Food is only okay. They are really nothing but a sandwich shop and the meat (cold cuts) are dry. They charge for 50 cents for a 5 oz cup of hot water. Nowhere do they disclose this up front, but they surprise you with it when the check comes. It's an expense they say. Well they just lost my business for being deceptive--I don't want any other surprises and will never be back.

Here's what you need to know: It's cash-only There are so many tables that you can expect immediate seating They offer carry-out If you're a vegetarian, just keep walking. While the restaurant is clean and the service is friendly, I ultimately left feeling disappointed. There is so much potential that seems to be squandered by lackluster food. The menu can be graciously described as your choice of prison food. In fact, I doubt the offerings have been updated since the last remodel of the restaurant (I'm guessing late 1980's...). This is not a place for those with discriminating taste - those who don't like relish in their egg salad - or those inclined toward healthier options. Although I can think of better ways to spend your money, it is relatively inexpensive and you don't have to guess at any of the words on the menu. If you're the type of guy who doesn't pack his lunch, doesn't like to try new things, and wants nothing more than a greasy hamburger with fries, I think you've met your match.

If you are looking for place to grab lunch this is a classic lunch spot for downtown workers. They have great double decker sandwiches along with burgers and some other options. Make sure to bring cash as they don't take credit card. They are also open for breakfast.

I had to laugh that someone gave this place one star and let's see....how many reviews has he written? That's right, one. You can never trust a reviewer who signs up simply to whine about one restaurant. Anyway, less talk about worthless reviews and more about Red Fox Grill. I work on the next block over and this place is a favorite for fast (and cheap) take-out service (they also have seating if you're eating in). Red Fox is a straight up old school deli and you should expect nothing more or less. It's nothing fancy. They simply specialize in piling a bunch of whatever you want on some bread and serving it to you with chips or fries. If you're thinkin' healthy, this might not exactly be the best place to go but if you're thinkin' big ass yummy sandwich, cha-ching. So stay hungry, my friends. Only thing I'd warn people about is that it's a cash only joint (yeah, I know...).

I was expecting a nice ma n' pa diner. This busy lunch time place did not live up to its reputation. The portions are small and prices are higher than you would expect. The cheese burger was average and the fries tasted freezer burnt, which is unfortunate because fresh fries are so easy and inexpensive. Second star is for fast service

A Co-worker of mine suggested we go here.. The place looks a little run down but don't let it fool you. The food was good and the prices were even better for the amount of food you got. The service was quick but not exactly smiling ray of sunshine but she did the job quickly so that made up for it. As others have said and it is generally a downside for me is they only take cash payment. Not a deal breaker but you have to keep it in mind when you go.

Loved this place. $5.50 for a grilled ham and cheese sandwich with a pile of fries. And the sandwich probably had 1/2 lb of ham on it. It's not fancy, but it's tasty and good value old school food.

The Barbecue Beef sandwich I had was great. The dining area left a lot to be desired ( think near south truck stop). I feel like the staff and owners know they have a good thing going and may have taken their foot off the gas.

Red Fox is an old-school "grill"/diner specializing in burgers in fries - really great burgers and fries. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a quick and easy lunch downtown. Nice/friendly service, too. They do have other sandwiches like BLTs, turkey or ham - and they do NOT skimp on the meat. My turkey sandwich was HUGE - I had to disassemble to eat. Note that it is one of the last cash-only restaurants around!
