After having Eli's, which is the best, I was a little skeptical. But this place did not disappoint. Great list of bourbons and beers! The brisket and ribs were juicy and tender and the spicy sauce to go with it was perfect. Great fried pickles..crispy but not burnt. The Mac and cheese was okay, especially compared to the Eagle. Coleslaw was okay too. Over all not impressed with the sides. Good service. Friendly and attentive but gave you your space. I will return! :)

Hellooooo Pontiac! I've been eagerly awaiting our meeting and I was not disappointed. After the taste on the Senate Dog I count not wait to get my hands on some more. We had the BBQ Pork Sandwich and the the Brisket Burrito. Both had a great flavor. Love the two sauces that they serve with all the dishes. The Mac and Cheese was awesome. It is not baked which is just a crime. It had the perfect texture and was very cheesy. We also had a yummy cocktail. Service was good as well. Can't wait to go back and try the wings and the ribs.

Pontiac's smoked chicken wings were the best wings my wife and I have both ever had in our lives. They were spectacular. Smokey, not too much. Spicy, not too much. Crispy, but not too much. They were just sublime. I had the 1/2 pound brisket, which was fork tender. That's all you need to know. I had the cheddar jalapeno grits, which were very good. My wife had the pulled pork and potato salad, which was very good. Our waiter took the time to help her pick out a drink that she would like (he got a good 20& tip!). The smoked chicken wings were just sublime. Worth a trip there for just that.

Great casual-funky atmosphere. Excellent server who was knowledgeable about all the food, the beer and the bourbon menu. I had the smoked turkey sandwich. It was tender and delish. The Gumbo was so thick, spicy and yummy. Will definitely be back.

Ok, I see all of the comparisons to Eli's, but that's really not fair. If I had never had Eli's I would absolutely marry Pontiac. We ordered a beer and cocktail and the pulled pork Poutine to split. The Poutine is massive, it was more than enough for the two of us. The meat platters looked awesome and I would highly recommend it to someone else. Here's the real deal. Yes, Eli's is the gold standard and we are very spoiled. But if you want to go to a real restaurant and have delicious bbq, come here, kick back, and have a drink at Pontiac.

I went last Tuesday when it opened and again this past Saturday for lunch. Tuesday's experience went fine, especially for having just opened. I was less than thrilled on Saturday. I showed up at approx. 11:15 and asked for a table of 4 while the rest of the group parked. I was met with a fairly snarky response about needing everyone to be here to be seated. Totally fine, just say so nicely. Wyatt, our waiter, was new and figuring things out, but was very kind and apologized when things took longer than expected. And that's all I need. Let me know what's going on and I'm not going to lose my mind over it. Food-wise, I had the pulled pork Saturday and the brisket on Tuesday. Both were good, but in my opinion, nothing too special. I found both the sauces that are offered to be lackluster. The slaw could use more vinegar... or something else. It's so generic I felt like it came from a grocery store. The buffalo fried pickles are a great idea, but are hardly fried! They turned into a breaded mush as they sat in the sauce. Let them cook a little more and they'd be perfect. The idea of bacon fat grits had me nearly drooling, but was let unimpressed with these too. The addition of jalapenos on top wasn't bad, but the grits were undercooked and need a lot more butter. The mac n' cheese also tasted like straight velveeta... WUUUUUT. It wasn't an awful experience, and the food wasn't terrible, but I really did expect so much more. And whoever the gentleman running the front of the house is needs to know that scolding your staff right in front of your diners makes everyone extremely uncomfortable- and makes you look like a jerk.

We enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. The interior is interesting, very cool blue sofas, nice neons and metal cow skulls. The bar is tasteful and there is a huge TV at the center, screening 'Over the top' movie during our visit ;) Despite the nice interior, the place is somehow not exactly cosy, but still cool. We sat at the bar and the bartenders were attentive and polite. We studied the cocktail list and one of them (with champagne) was 30 dollar, wow! Some of the drinks are served in really cool totem-like Rookwood mugs, which I found adorable. The music plays from an old school tape recorder and once in a while someone changes the big vinyl roll, which is cool! Everything we ordered was good and served in disposable dishes on a metal tray covered with brown paper. The concept is nice, but it does look as good as it sounds. Anyway, the brisket sandwich was the absolute highlight. It was rather on the fatty side, but we loved it! Poutin with pulled pork was nice, and the ribs were just OK, rather dry and the meat did not go off the bone. Still good, but in a city ruled by Eli's ribs.... Overall, we were happy with the food and the service. No big complaints! Reasons for non 5 stars: there is no hostess at the entrance, so when we came we did not know if it was OK to sit somewhere ourselves or wait. In the end, we were seated, but the confusion could have been avoided. There are almost exclusively big tables in this small space, so the 'communal' seating is a must. The bar stools are not exactly pretty (especially the colorful ones). I agree with the previous opinions: it would be great to have wet towels for the dirty fingers and the salad does stick to the paper. We look forward to trying some other things from the menu!

Overall vibe, I like the place. A couple neon accents on the walls and some golden cow skulls. Big TV behind the bar showing classics we all know, Blues Brothers, Goonies, etc. I literally went on their first night, so ANYTHING I say here can be taken with a grain of salt. Sat at the bar, stainless steel top. It was busy, but the tenders were attentive and knowledgeable on the menu and drink menu's offerings and had suggestions. (my being indecisive on beer, I was offered samples of beers I'd not had). That being said, they have around 8 beers on tap, and I'd say 50% local, rest regional, no crap beers on tap, but they are available in bottle form, (as I heard someone return a High Life because they ordered a Miller Lite)... Apparently they still exist? More pointedly, the craft cocktails seem to shine here. I had beer, but took a second look at the cocktail menu, and it looks like they have some specially crafted blends that alight the scrutinizing pallet. Sitting at the bar, I saw the tenders using eye-droppers to create their libations, and ice cubes made of (black raspberry ice?). Anyway, to the food. Pulled pork is how I judge all BBQ, as I went to school in SC, so I got a pulled pork sandwich. It was average in size, slaw-on (no option, though I go slaw-on always). Slaw was pretty generic/store-bought quality. Pork was pulled well and moist, not necessarily smokey, but better than most in these parts. Baked Beans were definitely a hit. Lots of pork parts, and fatty parts that definitely lend the flavor! Overall, it seems that the craft cocktails, (5 or so that are served in Tiki glasses!) are kinda their specialties, though some are $12. Food is good, but not gourmet. Style is good too, you just gotta know what you're getting into. ...thus concludes my most non-committal post ever.

I went in to Pontiac for lunch on the advice of a friend, and it did not disappoint. I grew up in VA, then moved to SC, and married a gal from TX, so I've eaten a fair bit of BBQ. I'm not an expert, but I know what I like. I had the brisket sandwich, which was perfect. It almost melted in my mouth, due in no small part to the fat left on it. Why do people trim off the fat? There's so much sweet sweet flavor in there. They serve the sandwich with coleslaw on it, and that was perfect - good flavor but didn't overpower the meat. The bun was run-of-the-mill - no complaints there. On recommendation of my server, I also got an order of cheesy grits, which were served with bacon and jalapenos on top. They were out of sight delicious! I'm not so sure about the "dive bar" moniker, since the cheapest beer they had was $3 and to me cheap beer - $1/can or so - is a hallmark of a good dive bar (though they do have Lone Star, which is great even for $4). Otherwise, it was just what I expected. I'd go back.

I'm leaving 3 stars because I just don't know what category to put this restaurant in. It's not a BBQ joint. If it was id give it 2 stars. It's not a gimmick, if it was I'd probably give it 4 stars (the animal style brisket sandwich was delish, as were the pork and nacho cheese fries). And it's not a trendy OTR joint, if it were I probably wouldn't go. It's some weird combo of all three. And it does pretty well. Good service. Fun food. But because I still don't know how to think about it... 3 stars.

I would describe the vibe at Pontiac as hipster-patriotic... The space is similar to a lot of other restaurants in OTR, yet reminiscent of a classic drive-in theater. They had a Chevy chase movie playing above the bar, and the wide booth seats make you feel like you're sliding into the back of a nice vintage car. I came here with some friends after dinner one night and we ordered a few beers along with some fried pickles. The atmosphere made it a great spot to hang out. And the staff was friendly! Our waiter didn't even get annoyed that we didn't order much food, although I was half expecting him to. He was actually really pleasant about it. All in all, I was impressed with my first visit and will definitely be back to try the BBQ!

This place has the kind of reverse-pretentiousness that's become common in OTR in the desperate quest for instant authenticity. From the "antique" Mexican tile floors to the Shiner Bock on the menu, Pontiac borrows heavily from a classic Texas BBQ joint, but somehow, it works. The restaurant is small with a large communal table up front, roomy booths in the back and a massive bar with lots of seating in the middle. The hostess was a little scattered, but the bar/serve staff was friendly and efficient. They have a significant drink assortment: a long list of bourbons, some specialty cocktails, and a good selection of beers on draft and longer list in bottles. We started with fried pickles, which I definitely recommend--a nice, crisp batter over thin pickle chips and both creamy and buffalo dipping sauces. Then we each got a 1/2 lb. of BBQ (pulled pork for him and brisket for me) and small sides of coleslaw and mac & cheese. My brisket came in long strips and had a nice smoky flavor. It was a bit dry, but when I added a little coleslaw to each bite, it was pretty tasty. I was too stuffed to try the mac & cheese, but hubby said it was just OK. They served everything on a giant metal tray with paper liner and strips of white bread, pickles & onions on the side. We had a ton of food and a few drinks for about $60 for 2 people. I can't say it's the best BBQ I've ever eaten, but I enjoyed the experience, food and drinks overall and would definitely go again (would probably try a sandwich next time...and more fried pickles).

Good brisket and better beer. Much different from Eli's. Service was great too. Their cocktails are very interesting made with bourbon. Appetizers were quite tasty

Finally got to try the newest BBQ joint in the city. It was perfect timing too because we got seated right away! The menu is short sweet and to the point - choose your weapon of either brisket, pork, turkey or ribs. Additionally, they have sandwiches with said meats and even a sandwich of the day along with many apps to choose from. Sides are $3 which I opted for bacon Mac. Delish and creamy with salty bite with the bacon. I was expecting a little more for the moola - more so kids size than adult. I digress. For entrée I went with the smoked turkey sandwich that's topped with coleslaw- classic combo. The spicy BBQ set it off beautifully. Decent joint. Swanky atmosphere and can't wait to try those beverages next time! I wanted to try the Hawaiian punch but that's for a group and we were a little party of two.

Pontiac has a similar vibe to a lot of other OTR establishments so when you walk in, it'll feel immediately familiar: long bar, wooden accents, open kitchen, all with a "hipster americana" feel to cap it off. I came in the middle of the day for lunch, so I can't really speak to the nightlife scene, but with the garage door open at the end of the bar, it felt very well integrated into the district. My girlfriend and I sat up at the bar during our visit. I had heard good things about the pulled pork BBQ sandwich so I was pretty much sold on my meal already. But we were pretty hungry so we got some fried pickles as an appetizer and one side each (Mac & Cheese and Baked Beans). First up, the fried pickles: so good. If you're into fried pickles, you should come here just for a basket of these. Really really good stuff. Soon after, our sandwiches and sides arrived. I claimed the basket with the Mac & Cheese because I'm usually an aficionado...but I was a little underwhelmed. I'm not sure what cheeses and seasonings they used on the pasta but it was really bland. I think I ate maybe half the cup. I did steal a few bites of the baked beans though and that's a solid A+ dish. Finally, the sandwich. The rumors were true, it's a solid take on pulled pork BBQ. The meat was great quality from the get-go and well cooked at that. It had a good subtle smoky flavor to it, but it wasn't overpowering. We got ours served with coleslaw on top and even before adding the BBQ sauce, it was a tasty dish. By the end, I was stuffed. Next time, I'll probably skip the sides and just stick with the sandwich. That alone is enough to fill me up for a meal. Will definitely be back soon!

Nice new addition to Vine St. We stopped by for lunch and the place was already hoping. Grabbed a seat at the bar though without a wait. The service was quick and friendly. She told us about the menu and got our drinks going for us. I ordered the the Brisket sandwich and my date ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We were informed that there were no substitutions allowed on the sandwiches which was a little disappointing because it meant I'd be throwing away my bread and my date would be trying to scrape off the coleslaw from atop his sandwich. Well we managed and enjoyed our meal despite the no substitutions rule. Be sure to try the spicier sauce! It's not spicy at all and more of a smokey flavor! Next time I might come hungrier so I can avoid the hassle of the sandwich rules and go straight for the 1/2 pound trays which allow you to put it together yourself!

On my first visit at lunch the place was packed. I sat at the bar and had their soup of the month, a gumbo... It was so good I ordered a second cup. At $3 it's a lunch bargain. However, their sweet tea didn't even smell nor taste like tea. I couldn't finish it and switched to water. Bleh. The interior is just okay. Exposed brick painted white, pseudo barn board, and some cool 1960's looking teal booth benches. A little too subtle or under stated, IMHO. I'll be back again to try the actual BBQ which is their house specialty.

I feel like saying a restaurant is just A-OK is kind of like a kiss of death, but that's literally what Pontiac is. The good news is that it's not the dumpster fire that the Michigan city is, so they've got that going for them. I came here with a few friends on a Wednesday night and was already concerned about this no reservation, no waiting list BS. By the time I arrived our name was in and we were given a 30 minute wait time, which isn't too bad for a party of 7 during the dinner rush. We decided to head to the bar while we waited and enjoy a cocktail. Great idea in theory, horrible idea in practice. There's no room. Anywhere. Part of me wishes I would have taken my drink to the restroom because I wouldn't have been bothered there, maybe. If you don't have a seat, you don't have a place to be at this restaurant. If you don't have a place for your guests to wait and you refuse to have reservations or a waiting list then you won't have customers pretty soon. Surprisingly the 30 minute wait time was pretty spot on. They sat us at the community table with a group of 4 other people right in front. Once again I felt like an eastern european stashed inside a storage crate because every time anyone moved, anywhere, I was jostled to and fro. The seas were angry that day my friend. My back was to the bar and with each turnover or bathroom break I would need to move my seat in and/or lean forward so people could exit. Comfort is a luxury at Pontiac and I don't think they can afford it. The service was probably the highlight of the night. We had a nice waiter and waitress who were both very attentive. Drinks were filled almost immediately and the food came out in a timely fashion. We started off with the fried pickles and chicken wings. The wings were smoked and decent in flavor. The fried pickles were more of a grease pit. They definitely needed a minute or two more in the fryer. Each time we passed around the basket there was a large grease stain on the table like an overexcited dog when their owner comes home. The girlfriend and I ordered the brisket and pulled pork with sides of bacon grits and mac & cheese. The meat is pretty delicious and aside from the service the best part of the entire encounter. The sides however taste like they came from a box of unoriginality. As my man Erich W pointed out, Pontiac is no Eli's. It'll be interesting to see how long this user unfriendly experiment lasts before people decide to spend their money elsewhere.

I really enjoyed this place!! The drinks were price friendly and I also enjoyed the purple drink which is basically a slush puppy with alcohol in it and it definitely brought back old school memories with that one only it had alcohol! They did have a food menu but since I had already eaten I decided to skip it and enjoy some drinks. The bartenders were super friendly which was really nice and I'll definitely be stopping back!!

Great atmosphere. And an excellent drink selection. However the food was just average. The bread for the brisket sandwich was sub par and the brisket was good not great. I went with a large group and everyone that got the ribs wish they got the brisket and vice versa. The poutine was a little too sweet for me and the buffalo pickles had good flavor but shortly became too soggy to finish. The bartender was very knowledgeable and helpful in selecting, although the pours on the drafts were consistently shy. Given the talent they have in the kitchen I wasn't too impressed. Overall ok food but would not be my first choice in OTR.

First things first. The owner recently stated in an article that they would not take names for seating. Instead diners would just have to wait in line for a table. That seems a little arrogant and I'm not sure where they expect people to wait. There isn't even a host stand or "front of the line". In fact, during my lunch visit, our name was taken and the people behind us just walked in and sat down. Need to get this figured out. On to the food.... I was hoping for some great new twists on traditional BBQ as you would expect from any restaurant on Vine. Sadly, although above average, my pulled pork was nothing special. I took two bites of the side of slaw that I ordered and that was enough for me. The rest of it went untouched. Not good. I will say that the portions were good size. I did enjoy some of the smoked wings which were very good. Had a very solid mild buffalo sauce, and were finished on the grill for a good crispness. I also scoped out some brisket that another diner had ordered that made me jealous. That's what I'll go with next time. I am sure I will return at some point because I'm a fan of Senate and I feel like Pontiac has to have more to offer than I got on my first experience. However, as it is, it's not a top 5 restaurant on Vine.

After hearing that the owners of Senate/Abigail Street made their way down the street with a bbq joint, I had high hopes for this place. The interior decor was nice and had a very feel-good atmosphere and the staff were all awesome. However, I was disappointed by almost everything I ordered.. which was the fried pickles, St. Louis ribs, and the potato salad. The batter on the fried pickles was very ample and did not have that much of a crunch that I'd prefer. The ribs had lacking flavor and had little meat on them.. and the potato salad was also on the bland side. The only thing that saved it was the bacon bits on top. I'll give this place another try sometime in the future, but overall, I had hoped it would be better.

I wanted this place to be good, just because it's in OTR and it seemed cool when I walked in. The problem is the food was just not very good. Pros: We basically only came here because Taste of Belgium and The Eagle both had hour long waits (as usual), and this place didn't have a wait at all. I'm going to call any dinner place without a wait in OTR a win. I liked the atmosphere, and our service was good. The atmosphere is casual and they clearly have a sense of humor about the design. I ordered the bloody with a beer, and it was awesome. The bloody mary was super spicy, and it came with the cutest little beer on the side, and for $8 that's really not too bad. Cons: Ughhhh the food...We came here for lunch, and we ordered the poutine to start, because it sounded interesting and I can't pass up anything with french fries. First off, it is certainly not a poutine...All of Canada should be offended that Pontiac is calling it that. It's just cheese fries with some nasty canned nacho cheese and pulled pork. The sauce on the pulled pork was overly sweet, and it just made it taste like sugar on cheese. Gross! My fiance got the brisket burrito. I'm from Texas, so I have high standards for both burritos and brisket...Honestly, this tasted worse than Chipotle. Seriously, not an exaggeration. I got the wedge salad which was taste...It had a very good green goddess dressing on it that should be immediately bottled and sold to the public. That was really the highlight of our meal (the salad should not be the best thing you eat at a restaurant.....). Overall, I wanted to give it a high score, but I was just very disappointed. Don't go here unless you're absolutely starving and everywhere else is full!

I had dinner here on both Friday and Saturday evening. I've had all of the meats. The ribs and the brisket are amazing!! The sides aren't very good, but the meat stands alone. The mixed drinks are tasty.

We arrived and were seated immediately early on a Saturday afternoon. The food is good enough, and has room for improvement. We shared a bunch of stuff and, for the most part, everything was decent. For some reason, I enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich, while the others in our party didn't so much. It tasted more like a crock pot homestyle recipe and less like a true BBQ recipe, which wasn't disagreeable to me. The brisket sandwich was juicy enough, but lacked flavor. The chicken wings were smoky, juicy, spicy, and fried perfectly. The BBQ carrots were awesome. The ribs where unremarkable. None of the food required any extra sauce / condiments as all the offerings had enough flavor as is, except the brisket. We spent $70 total, which included two beers and a bloody mary, and the three of us left in an extremely full state, granted the other two weren't as hungry as I was. Our server was very attentive and friendly. I'd give the food 3.25 stars because some if it was pretty tasty, and some was merely ok. I did enjoy the excellent service, the beer selection, and the prices (when the food is shared, and check split). In short, get the wings.

Pontiac is a brand new BBQ joint in the heart of OTR from the brilliant minds of the people who brought us Senate. Obviously Senate didn't invent the hot dog but they damn near perfected it. Having said that, Pontiac isn't really bringing anything new to the table in a city where BBQ is becoming king, but they sure are putting their best foot forward. My first bite into their beef brisket sandwich brought an unexpected 'Oh damn' from my mouth. The meat was thick, juicy, and plentiful. There were two kinds of BBQ sauce on the table, one tasted sweet like molasses and the other was hot as the tarnations of hell (okay not that hot but I love the word tarnations). I could sit here and tell you all the other things I liked about this place (buffalo fried pickles and pimento cheese for starters) but instead I have to wonder aloud why anyone (even the hot shots from Senate) would open a sit down style BBQ joint in the middle of some of the best restaurants in a 100 mile radius. Particularly when Eli's is right around the corner offering similar food at half the price. The answer is the experience. It was nice to sit down at a table and be served BBQ It was nice to see creative culinary options not offered by the local competition. It was nice to have a full bar of cocktails and local draft beers. Also, there is something to be said about this restaurant and its BBQ when it can open up here in OTR, down the block from the number one restaurant and BBQ joint in the city, and still draw a huge crowd. The bottom line is it works and I will definitely be back.

The best pulled pork we ever had! The barbecue sauce made it just delicious. We also tried the ribs: juicy, smokey...fantastic. The staff was also extremely kind, we could try different drinks before ordering. Love this place, we will be back!

Great option for a great meal with amazing food. Many reviews of this restaurant are overly and unnecessarily critical, and if you're in the mood for good food in an eclectic "BBQ joint" atmosphere, this is the place for you. The food is most commonly ordered family style where you order types of meat (such as ribs, pulled pork, brisket, etc) by the 1/2 pound or 1lb. There are also options for individual plates/sandwiches. The drink and bourbon menu is very unique and the ambience of the restaurant is perfect. I bring the parents and the in-laws here for a fun, quick dinner in a unique restaurant.

A great staff of Allstars from restaurants throughout the OTR. If you have had great service from the other restaurants, chances are they will now be serving you here. Great food and awesome service staff! The Frito Pie is a killer throwback! Try the turkey and bacon fat grits and you will not be disappointed.

I'm sad to see my first less than three star review go here. My experience really couldn't have been more underwhelming than my experience at Pontiac. I only live one block over and I love Barbecue so I couldn't have been more excited for the opening of this place. Then you read the reviews and all of the hype, what could go wrong right? Then we got there. Here's a tip, Pontiac isn't a place you can play restaurant roulette and just leave your number and walk around or do whatever. You have to wait for your table. Fine. I think for the area this mindset is a bit archaic but no big deal. They told me it would be 40 minutes. Perfect. I drove to pick up my girlfriend in Columbia-Tusculum and was back in 30 minutes and was told they already called my name, so we had to go to the back of the list. No big deal. The space is very small so while standing around waiting for drinks and our table we felt we were always in someone who was workings way. This I feel would be alleviated by allowing people to leave and come back. So after 30 minutes or so we were seated. We were seated at a communal table with 10 other people which is no big deal, I get these places are small. But in this case, unlike other communal seating in OTR, you were literally touching the person next to you if you moved the slightest. That's a bit much, especially if you're on a date and want to have a conversation. The person sitting at the far back corner of our table was practically pinned up against a pipe running through the floor to the ceiling. Then the bad news... We are out of Brisket and Ribs... Um what? How can you be out of the two things you've been hyping since well before you opened?! Since then I've seen Facebook posts of their Brisket saying; "come get it while it lasts." What kind of business model is this? That would be like going to Senate and them running out of Hot Dogs. No, if you have a main menu item you make sure you have enough. It was 7:30 pm on a Friday! All that was left was Pulled Pork, or Turkey. If I wanted that I would have just gone to Eli's. The meal comes on an old high school cafeteria tray with a piece of wax paper which is whatever. I got the pork and Alyssa got the turkey and we split the Cheddar Bacon Grits. The food itself wasn't overwhelmingly mind blowing. I would say I've had better at various other locations around Cincinnati, Eli's being one of them. The sandwich is not very big and did not fill me up. The Grits were good and one of the more positive parts of the experience besides the Bulleit Rye I was sipping on and the person sitting across from me. It's a bummer that this was the experience. I wanted so badly for this place to be great.

My first time here was this evening and I'm glad to say that I wasn't disappointed. Although they do feature a limited menu, their hospitality and service stretch far beyond. I ordered the Pontiac Turkey Quesorito but was disappointed to find that they left out the inclusion of kielbasa sausage in the description. As I am not an avid pork eater, I asked for something else. They were completely accommodating and understanding. I ordered the Brisket Nachos instead and was NOT disappointed! Huge chunks of Brisket with crisp corn Nachos, fresh pico de gallo, refried beans and queso cheese.. Simply perfection! The price is well worth it! Definitely big enough for 4 people to share. Their staff was so friendly and genuine. The manager was also friendly and accessible, I was never made to feel like a hassle. Did I mention their crazy whisky/bourbon assortment???? I can't wait to come back here!

We got seated very quickly on a Sunday afternoon. I only had a party of 3. We got seated with this family who had the most adorable baby. Everyone was friendly and their waiter was very helpful. So if you get that 30 dollar Hawaiian Punch it get 3 people on a good one. The alcohol in the middle is Bacardi 151 so don't be afraid to drink that too! The chicken wings were probably the best I had ever had. Zesty with tons of meat on every bone for 8 bucks I got 6 of them. I would definitely go back for those wings. By the way not a lot of people know but the banana desert is made with Holtman's donuts. It definitely is worth a try. By the way they don't sell the Holtman's donuts that come with the Homer separately. I already asked.

We went to Pontiac for dinner after a evening of bar hopping in OTR. Though we had a party of 6, they got us in quickly (and really fast for OTR). We order pulled pork sandwiches all around. The pork was tasty and a generous portion. The sauces were nice as well. Beer selection was good (try the coffee porter) and our waiter was fast and friendly. Really good experience!

Cool vibe and decent Q, good drink selection as well. Was not blown away by the food but it was solid. Staff was friendly and helpful. OTR has really changed over the past 5-10 years. Had a cocktail at Senate beforehand.

I had a very enjoyable first experience at Pontiac. The wait was short and we were able to park the par while waiting for our table (They do warn you that if your table is ready and you don't respond to their text message within 10 minutes, you forfeit your spot). We got a table to ourselves and our server easily navigated us through the menu. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, a brisket kielbasa sandwich, mac and cheese, and fried pickles. Everything was really tasty and quite filling. The pickles, in particular, were incredible. I enjoyed my time at the restaurant and I will definitely be going back. From the service to the food to the ambience, Pontiac is worth checking out. Cheers.

We were sampling and hopping the OTR area tonight, Pontiac was our first stop on the recommendation of a friend. Huge bourbon selection, lots of fun looking appetizers on the menu. We started with a Manhattan and a Fizz drink. They were both excellent, high-quality cocktails. We split the barbecue, nacho cheese poutine. It was a huge portion, we were both filled up. Jalapeños were pretty strong, overall a great taste. The atmosphere was open, communal, and very busy. Great weather allowed the front to be opened up to the street. Our waitress disappeared towards the end of the night, another bartender wound up taking our check.

Fantastic service, well-crafted cocktails, and delicious meat. I stopped in pretty early (like, 4 PM) on Saturday, and the atmosphere was perfect: not too crowded, but not dead either. The BBQ here is basically perfectly seasoned and smoked. This place gets 4 stars because the sauce is not precisely to my taste, but the rub they use is so good that you don't really need sauce anyway. I'm particularly fond of the smoked chicken wings. Contrary to a previous poster, I really liked the wedge salad. I found it cool, crisp, and a refreshing complement to the heap of smoked meat before me. My friend's grits were delicious, although a bit heavy on the jalapenos for her taste. The drinks were on point, particularly the Tomcat Fizz. We deeply regretted our need to drive back home, or we would have had several more.

Well, one of the biggest restaurant let downs for me in awhile. I'll at least start with what Pontiac got right - the pulled pork! It was delish! The crumbled grippos on top of the slaw were also a nice touch. Unfortunately, that's about it. As I have a wheat allergy I ordered a pulled pork sandwich without a bun. We dined at the bar - so at this point the bartender informed me the "kitchen" could not give me a pulled pork sandwich without the bun. I could take the bun off when I got it - but the pork would have to be placed on the bun - no exceptions. Ummmm WHAT? I explained I had a food allergy and the two couldn't touch. He replied - our owner won't let us remove the bun as he thinks it is "a way of cheating him out of food and also getting a free side of cole slaw." He explained to me that people will take advantage of the sandwich option (which comes with a ramekin of cole slaw) instead of paying for the pulled pork platter and buying the cole slaw separately (which is basically over a cup of cole slaw). Believe me - my face was perplexed at this notion. Here's the thing. I didn't want a 1/2 lb of pulled pork. I wanted a sandwich size serving - they are typically smaller. That being said - if you are giving me LESS pork that I am paying $2 less for - I'm not sure I follow how this "keeps your food costs down" as well as what accounts to a tbsp (with the sandwich) versus a cup ($3 side dish) of cole slaw. I know - the wheat allergy is a bummer - but its a reality thats becoming more and more common with you customer base. I mean, if you're so concerned about the intent of your customers with their sandwich v. platter selection - why even offer the sandwich? Plus - I would've ordered the sandwich and technically saved you a bun (youre welcome!) - so if we wanna get real picky about cost savings... None the less I ordered the platter with a side of bacon fat grits and cole slaw. The 1/2 lb platter that is - where I took half home and it will go bad in my fridge. Next dilemma - the bacon fat grits. Blandest. Grits. Ever. The bacon and jalapenos on top are a nice touch - but these were really just plain grits with bacon - not bacon fat grits. Even a heavy hand with the salt couldn't save these grits. Butter. The secret is butter - or at least the bacon fat you advertised. Believe me - when someone orders the "bacon fat grits" they aren't thinking about their waistline -- take advantage of this and make it delish. My food came out. 5 minutes go by and my lunch partners didnt. 10 minutes - same issue. I then inquire about it. Apparently it wasn't rung in. Thankfully our bartender was super nice - so this was no big deal. It happens. After our meal we had a bartender box up our remaining 1/4 lb of pork (we left the grits, minus two bites). There were SEVEN people behind the bar at this point. SEVEN. Yet, another 15 minutes passed before anyone tried to offer our check/offer another drink/etc. The location is great. The taste of the pulled pork is great - but thats unfortunately about it. I wanted to LOVE this place and was so excited for it. I recognized a number of waiters from Senate and Abigail Street. Maybe this is part of the problem. Those two restaurants have established themselves. They consistently please - as such, you can probably slack on the service a little there and it not be what people remember. Pontiac though - you haven't earned your keep yet. There are so many good restaurants in OTR that ya gotta do it right. Location isn't everything - just ask Lavomatic... We may give this place another try eventually - but sadly, as a BBQ lover, we won't seek it out. With Eli's as the competition - I hope Pontiac can fix these flaws.

I stopped by Pontiac on a Thursday evening to grab something to eat. There was no wait and I was able to snag a seat at the bar. They had the wall of glass in the front completely open and the night air breezed through. The ambiance was great! It was pretty chill compared to most places in OTR and that was just fine for a Thursday night. Actually, it was a welcomed change. The bartender/server greeted me and immediately took my order. I ordered a side of fried pickles and order of smoked wings (healthy, right?). After seeing relatively mixed reviews of Pontiac, I was apprehensive about the food but I was pleasantly surprised. My food tasted great! The wings were REALLY good and the pickles were satisfying as well. Overall, my experience at Pontiac was just fine.

I eat here probably once a week, at least. I'm not sure if they changed the mac and cheese but it was awesome today and just ok when I had it a few weeks ago. The brisket is amazing. The turkey is like so good that it competes with the brisket when I'm deciding what to order. The coleslaw is possibly the best thing they make (which would normally not be a good thing at a bbq place but it's just that good here). Get a sandwich so that you get coleslaw on your meat or order meat and coleslaw and put them together like god intended.

I understand that this is an attempt to be divey, but when you need to name a drink 'statutory grape,' you're not clever, you're just offensive and trying too hard. This is a restaurant so here's my review on the food - mediocre at best. If you want actually good BBQ go to Eli's.

I went to Pontiac for lunch on their second day and my first reaction was to say it's just okay. For me, the BBQ standard in Cincinnati has been set by Eli's, so I'm using that as my benchmark. I thought Pontiacs pulled pork sandwich was good - good flavor and nice crunch from some bark, but was a little on the light side. For $8, I'd expect closer to a half pound of meat on the sandwich, but there was probably less than 1/4 pound. Meats by the half pound/pound seem to be the better value, as there is substantially more meat and they also come with bread, onions and pickles. I got mac and cheese as my side and wasn't overly impressed, good level of cheesiness (is that a word?) and I like that they use capatavi noodles (the best mac and cheese noodle, in my humble opinion), overall it was just okay mac and cheese (UPDATE - Pretty disappointing to find out a restaurant is using Velveeta. Come on, Pontiac, you can do better!). The brisket is just okay, not good, not great. I think I most enjoyed Pontiac's bbq sauces - both the spicy and normal are really good! As far as environment goes, it fits in with the rest of the trendy OTR spots.. loud and crowded with some communal tables. Nice craft beer list and a lot of bourbons and whiskies to choose from. Pontiac doesn't take name and numbers, so be prepared to wait in line for your table. I'm happy it's finally here and can't wait to try more of what they have to offer

I agree with pretty much all of Sable's review below. First, the seating process and service of that process leaves a lot to be desired. I went to Pontiac on the first Friday they were open. My thoughtful date went to put our name in before he came to pick me up, thinking that there would be a long wait, and that we'd have plenty of time. The host took his name, but said that they couldn't call him when the table was ready, and it'd probably be about 45 minutes. So he came to get me, and we got back to the restaurant right about 45 minutes later. The host said that our table had already come up and we weren't there, so we had to start back at the bottom of the list. That was fine with us, but the problem is that there's nowhere to wait. It's a typical tiny OTR restaurant, so I'm not sure where they expect people to stand. We saw a couple of seats open up at the bar, so we decided to sit down, and were stopped by a server who said that they seat at the bar. So- we could potentially have been waiting 45 minutes for a seat at the bar? I'm just not sure that any of that is a good decision. When we sat down, about 15 minutes later (at 8pm on a Friday night, there was only a 15 min wait...), we were seated in the middle of a communal table across from one another. Again, kind of a normal thing for an OTR restaurant to have communal tables, but it's worth mentioning that it was uncomfortable. Then our server came over, and told us they were out of brisket and ribs. By 8pm. On their first Friday open. They have a limited menu, so that left us with three options: pulled pork, hot links, and smoked turkey. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich, and date ordered the pulled pork sandwich. We also ordered a side of the bacon fat grits because they sounded great, and I've had the bacon fat fries at Senate and loved them. When the food arrived, it was on an aluminum tray instead of a plate. I think it's personal preference, but I wasn't jiving with that. On it was a small, fast food hamburger sized, turkey sandwich. The cole slaw, as Sable said, looked and tasted like it was from a can. I am pretty sure I ate it at a church potluck last week. The turkey was fatty. Overall, all the food was really bland. Both of us were really disappointed by our experience at Pontiac. There's no excusing unimaginative and scarce food, confusing service, and being under prepared to be open. Abigail Street is one of my favorite restaurants and I also love the imagination of Senate, but this addition to the family is not quite up to par.

Living only a block away, I was really looking forward to Pontiac opening and supporting another OTR restaurant. I guess I had high expectations because I love Abigail Street and Senate so much that I figured I would feel the same adoration for Pontiac. However, I was sadly disappointed. Overall, the food seemed like a knock-off of Eli's BBQ with a more expensive price tag. All biases aside, it just wasn't as flavorful and it felt inauthentic, with the exception of the wedge salad with the "green goddess" dressing. I could drink that stuff it was so good! The only con about the salad is that it was placed an a tray with paper underneath, it began to absorb the dressing and I found myself eating paper by the time I was half way through it (might want to rethink the plating on that). The styrofoam serving cups and brown paper napkin roll (like the ones you see in a elementary school bathroom) seemed very tacky. When I'm paying for a $12 cocktail, I would like to have a real napkin and plate. I'm all about the casual bbq experience, but not in this atmosphere. It works for Eli's because they are truly a casual, BYOB, sit on a picnic table and listen to a live band type place. Pontiac could benefit from tweaking their concept with something more original. The seating situation was a mess as well. We walked in and didn't see a host for nearly 5 minutes and weren't sure what to do. Once she came to the front with a clipboard, we asked how long it would be for two people and were told, "whatever time I tell you, it won't be accurate." And we're never once told a time estimate. I've been in the restaurant business for over 6 years, I am well aware seating estimates aren't always accurate but it seemed unacceptable to not be able to tell us a time at all. We were eventually seated but overall it seemed unorganized and the host seemed undertrained. Our server was sweet and cared about how our experience was. He seemed a little overwhelmed but it's more than understandable for it only being his first or second shift. I'm still rooting for Pontiac and hate that my first experience wasn't what I was hoping for. I fully understand that it has only been open for a few days so I plan on going back and hoping my next experience is better.

The server we had was very good and for that reason I will return. The cocktails were delicious but overpriced and the brisket lacked flavor as did the Mac and cheese. My friend said the beef rib was too salty. The wings were very good though...I recommend going for the wings.

There was PORN playing on the TV at noon on a Saturday and there were children in the restaurant! It was so inappropriate! We went in to eat lunch and while waiting to be seated, we noticed the TV. You cannot show a woman's bare chest on a giant television nevertheless when it is in a very graphic sex scene. ESPECIALLY in a restaurant where there were young children. This was noon on a Saturday! We left immediately. Never stepping foot in this restaurant again and will definitely be telling our friends.

My friends and I decided to check Pontiac out last night. Just like any OTR restaurant, it was packed. I wasn't the first one there so I met my friends standing behind people sitting out the bar. Unfortunately there is no good place to wait so you get that perpetual I'm always in someone's way feeling. Beer list was extensive and service from the Bar speedy. We had a party of seven and honestly didn't take as long as I thought to get seated and their estimation was pretty accurate. We did not experience the whole party to be present to be seated phenomenon but I suggest to management you listen to how unpopular that is with your customers as evident by other Yelp reviews. We started off with the BBQ fried pickles and chicken wings. Both were quite delicious and probably the highlight of the meal. I got the pulled pork sandwich and bacon fat grits but did try the ribs and mac and cheese as well. Pulled pork was quite delicious and plentiful. Their spicy BBQ sauce complimented it well. I agree with another commenter that it would be nice if the bun was grilled. The sides is where they need a lot of help. Both Grits and Mac & Cheese were bland and lacked the savory flavor I come to expect from Pontiac's sister restaurants. Weird I know, I would have thought bacon fat added to anything would make it stellar. If there was salt and pepper at the table I would have used it on the grits. Everyone agreed the Mac&Cheese could have been Velveeta from a box The question everyone will ask is how does it compare to Eli's? Excluding the appetizers, Pontiac at this point is not a threat. Eli's has better food at a much lower price point. And please put some wet naps on the table!

To avoid the typical OTR 3 hour wait for dinner, we tried a lunch visit and were promptly seated. Shared lunch with a friend and got to try a good chunk of the menu. The wings were the high note, with the buffalo pickles and slaw being painfully average. As creative as Senate is, I would have thought the slaw would have had an interesting twist....nope, standard Picnic slaw with crushed chips on top. The brisket burrito was too much lettuce and cheese and not enough brisket! The pulled pork platter was very good, and was a very generous portion. Verdict...sides were the low point....meat will keep you coming back. I'll have to try the ribs next time around and possibly the pimento and ritz. On a side note, love the music in this place...old blues and country!

Stopped here the other day after a friend recommended it to me. I was not disappointed! The brisket was so tender and flavorful. Not to mention the delicious barbecue sauce. I also had the baked beans which had a little spice as well but were equally delicious. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because the potato salad could have used a little more flavoring/seasoning. Overall I loved the atmosphere and the while I sat at the bar the service was excellent! I'll be back soon!

Some friends and I were looking for some light bites in OTR before seeing a play, and we discovered our first choice was too crowded. A friend of mine noticed that Pontiac had a table open in the window so we gave it a shot. We were not sat right away, as our entire party had to be present - a fact that I DID NOT enjoy. If two out of three people are there, and asking for a table, which is clearly available. We should be seated. It felt as though if another patron were to come in while we were waiting, we would lose that table. Not good customer service in my book. We were also told that it was the same thing for the bar seating. Next, we were sat at the table, and really didn't have a good place to put our coats. A coat rack would be helpful when the seating is bar stools. I just threw my coat and purse on the floor. The food arrived and we were happy campers! The pulled pork and nacho cheese poutine was interesting. Tasted good, but not incredible. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich with macaroni and cheese. My friends got the brisket sandwiches. The pulled pork was delicious. I loved that they had more sauce on the table (both spicy and not) as I usually like too add more. The sauce is good. Sweet but not too sweet, and somewhat thin. I usually prefer a thicker sauce, but I still really liked this one. The mac was really good too! My friends really enjoyed their brisket. I would also recommend the old fashioned.

I expected better from the Bakersfield guys. We split a pound of the brisket, turkey and hot links and were disappointed with each. The brisk it had very little true smoke flavor the turkey was dry and the links were eh. That being said the sides truly get the stars in this review, they are the saving grace of my review, they may make the best baked beans I've ever had and the grits are amazing. As all places in otr, drinks are a little over priced but that's what you get when overhead is that high. I will give their meat another shot (yeah, that's what she said...) because any place can have an off night. Edit-The senate guys. Not the Bakersfield folks.

I wanted to give this place a 5 star review. It had potential with the vintage drive in atmosphere. Normally with my reviews I go into great detail and I will do that here as well. Before this place opened, I was exiting KAZE to be shouted at across the street by 3 intoxicated guys from within the Pontiac offering tasting of their food. As I am always opened to trying new places, my 4 friends and I walked over to test it out. The moment I grabbed the taster I was attacked by one of the guys who proceeded to follow me half a block describing how the brisket was made and where their inspiration came from. I get that he was most likely trying to be friendly but, the smell of whiskey and cologne that followed me was unpleasant. Fast forward a few weeks later... From the moment I walked in, 10:50PM to be exact I was bombarded by the manager. Assuming if was to greet me like most places in OTR except it was to tell me "I hope you arent coming here to eat because our kitchen just closed." Okay... I get that you are informing me from the beginning however, there are nicer ways to approach a potential customer instead of a rude statement to make me feel unwanted. I explained that was fine and I came to try out a drink. He responded that there was no where to sit and I could stand by the bar. There was plenty of booths opened but, it sounded like they just didnt walk anyone coming in... At 11PM on a Friday night. I shook off the manager and found a seat at the bar. The bartender opened with "our kitchen is closed so I hope you werent planning on ordering food". Again with a rude opening statement . I reexplained myself to him saying I just wanted to try a drink. I settled with the Tomcat Fizz which was surprisingly good and contributed to the 2 star they are getting. While sitting at the bar I overheard the bartenders talking about closing up early as it was a slow night and what their plans were. Which to me was a clear cut sign to "hurry up" as they did not even try to keep their voices down. At that point, I finished my drink and closed my tab. I proceeded to make my way to the bathroom which was unlabeled. By mistake, I walked into the kitchen and was greeted with a response of "Are you just looking to wander in the kitchen or are you looking for bathroom?" I responded the bathroom and was directed by a finger point to the unlabeled door I just passed. All in all it was a poor experience and not what I would expect from a place that just opened in OTR by the same owners as The Senate. You would expect their staff to be friendly, even if they were closing early on a Friday night. Everyone seemed pissed off that was working there. I will give this place a try in a month or 2 when they get past the new opening jitters and train their staff in customer service. Also, hopefully their kitchen will be open next time. 1 star for solid drink options and 1 star for decor.

Ok let me start by saying - EXCELLENT food! The first time we went there, the wait was two hours long so we didn't get a chance to eat but the second time around we were lucky to find an opening as soon as we went in. The place has cool looking interiors and the architecture/design is completely in-sync with the OTR vibe. Since our group was famished when we went to Pontiac, we ordered a few things off the menu. The pulled pork poutine was incredibly good as were the smoked wings. Their list of beers is also pretty legit. The BBQ sauce is different from any other I've had and in a really good way too! Overall it was a great dining experience and I'll definitely be returning here!

First off I love the Senate/Abigail Street brand. I dream of Senate's poutine. So I definitely had high hopes to try the newest concept from Daniel Wright. At 5:15 on a Saturday there was a wait (of course) and we waited 30 minutes for 2 extremely cramped seats at the bar. I'm cool with the close quarters, its standard for any restaurant on Vine, but the seating at the bar was impossible to get in or out of, or have any personal space - and when you're eating barbecue an extra inch of space would've helped immensely. Decor was cool. Same old TV movies on, a bit overdone in my opinion, but I liked the feel overall. We started with the poutine- the only item we tried that I would have again. Jalapeños, cheese, and pulled pork on fries. Yummy. Not as yummy as the classic poutine at senate, but still pretty freaking awesome. Our food came out literally 2 minutes after we started working on the poutine- amateur mistake on our bartender's part. Not a typical mistake of Senate's level of customer service. Definitely think some changes in staffing will be in the works soon. I had the pulled pork with potato salad and also tried the mac and cheese. The portion of the sandwich was good- a lot of meat but not enough sauce. The sauce was lackluster, and the slaw generic and lacking tangy sweetness. For $8 just for the sandwich, I'd say a bit overpriced. The potato salad was over salted and unappetizing. The mac and cheese- which the bartender recommended was HORRENDOUS. Literally noodles and thinned down velveeta. No seasoning whatsoever. $3 wasted. My expectations were high, and they were not met whatsoever. For the wait, price and quality of the food, save your money and go to Eli's. A lot more food for the value and way better quality BBQ. I'd consider going back for the cocktail menu, but would be hard pressed to wait for the food again.

I had such high hopes for this place, so I hate to just give this three stars (more like 2.5 to be fair). I love BBQ, but I'm not one of the locals that worships at the shrine of Eli's (which is solid, but not as impeccable as many suggest). I went with two other guys for lunch today, and seating was readily available at 11:30 when we arrived. We ordered three meats and three sides in a attempt to try as many things as possible. The brisket was dry, but the flavor was pretty good. The pulled pork was also dry (hard to do in my opinion from smoking many shoulders), and I thought the flavor of the rub was a bit odd. I couldn't place all the flavors, but it almost had a cocoa/chocolate flavor to it (strange in my book). The hot link was good, but I don't travel to barbecue restaurants for this item. We ordered the grits, Mac and cheese, and fries, and we were not overly impressed for any of the items. After enjoying many fine meals at the Senate, I had really high hopes for this place. Given the eclectic fare at their hot dog joint, I had hoped this place would fall in line with a terrific barbecue place in Nashville, TN known as Edley's. I may go back once more when the weather warms, but I'm sad that this place didn't meet my expectations. I was jacked about the prospect of a BBQ joint downtown.

Delish! We've only been once so far, and it's only even been open for a few days, but we can already tell this is going to become one of our regular stops. - We purposely went first thing on a Sat morning, hoping to avoid a wait. Mission accomplished: There was seating available at a communal table, but we chose the (full-service) bar instead. - The vibe is clean and casual, with some BBQ joint touches like cow skulls (painted gold), old rusty signs, a giant upside down horseshoe, etc. My favorite touch is actually the entrance, with its beautiful (salvaged?) wood. - We recognized a couple of our favorite servers from Senate and Abigail Street, so we knew we were in good hands. - Personally I don't get that excited about a giant hunk of meat, so I was more focused on the sides. Also, we had heard from a guy working at Graeter's that the brisket was fantastic. With those two things in mind, we ordered a half portion of the brisket + 3 sides: mac and cheese, bacon fat grits, and baked beans. For the brisket, you can get fatty or lean. Our server recommended fatty, and it was REALLY good. Like, omg. Best in Cincy, IMO. The mac and cheese was far better than Eli's. The baked beans were really good -- just note that they come with a lot of sauce, which has a bit of a (black pepper-based) kick to it. The grits tasted fresh, and on their own they might be a bit bland to some people's tastes (though I liked them!), but they are served with some cheese and bacon on top to add flavor. In all, we were VERY happy with our meal, and satisfied but not stuffed when it was over. - My husband was all set to try some bourbon (and there are at least 3 cocktails on the menu that he's looking forward to) but since it wasn't even noon, he opted for a red Slush Puppy instead. He loves slushie drinks, and we both think it's kind of a neat quirky thing for Pontiac to offer. - The main TV was playing Ferris Bueller's Day Off, which is far more interesting to me than the old westerns they show at Bakersfield. - For dessert, there's Graeter's right next door, Sweet Petit a couple doors down, or Holtman's Donuts across the street. (We actually opted to stop by the new pretzel place around the corner, and they do offer sweet varieties!) Note: Pontiac does probably have a couple things to work out, such as the fact that the ribs, prime rib, and turkey were not available. (I overheard one server explaining that the rib takes like 12 hours to smoke, so that's why it's not ready in the morning. Totally get that, but then you need a different menu in the morning. Don't show us things we can't have!) Also, I noticed a few times people would walk in and there would be no one to greet and seat them. There's no question this will quickly become yet another OTR place with a long wait, but for now, this seems like more of an opening week issue, and one that I'm confident they will work out, since I'm familiar with the quality and professionalism of their other restaurants.

Went on sat morning when they opened so we could avoid the weight. Got the ribs which were good but not on elis level. The potato salad was different that you get at most places but very good think it had mayonnaise and sour cream topped with bacon. They have a nice bourbon selection and the bartenders know a lot about it as well as some tiki type drinks

Didn't enjoy it the first time we went but went back to try again. Both times they were out of brisket early in the evening. The cocktail prices are really high and the two we had the first time were *meh* especially considering the price tag. Ordered beers the second time but they were out of our first choices. The poutine looked like something out of a high school cafeteria and tasted the same. The fries were straight up frozen and covered with cheap nacho cheese. The meat seemed nicely smoked but nothing mind blowing. The seating is very confusing as the bar is reserved and there's nowhere to stand or order drinks while waiting. The people next to us were disappointed, too. Everyone says the brisket is the best thing on the menu but if you can't get it twice...it's really hard to believe this place is owned by the Senate people.

I've been to this stellar joint on three separate occasions since their opening. If there is a wait simply put your name & number in to their iPad system and enjoy OTR while you wait. The food is honest BBQ fair and is meant to appeal to all. I've had their wings, brisket sandwich, ribs, fried pickles, potato salad, Mac&Cheese and the soup maestros monthly creation. Overall execution of all the above was clearly executed by a staff who knows what they are doing. The cocktail list is well thought out and like their food is meant have something for everyone. The ambiance is perfect for OTR, and it was truly a fresh breath from the music to the personal touches meant to bring a smile to your face. I love the attention to detail and it shows from floor to ceiling. I cannot wait to bring friends and family back to give them something they may have never had in the BBQ world and of course try the rest of the menu. Cheers.

I got to check out Pontiac for the first time last night and loved it. It had been on my list since opening and was really excited to try it out. I wasn't disappointed. The hostess was solid, using the seating system in her iPad that immediately texted me with the approximate wait time and then texted me later while at another bar letting me know a table was available early. Easy! The food. Wow. We got the poutine appetizer and it was just exploding with flavor. The brisket burrito was not something I had tried before, but I'm glad I did as it really worked. Also the Mac and cheese was spot on. They had an entire separate menu for bourbon, and must have had 40-50 brands to choose from. I'm a bourbon guy, so this was great. Ambiance was exactly what I love about OTR. Typical shotgun style layout, with great rustic decoration mixed with modern fixtures. Good music. Loud and exciting. Prices were very reasonable. Just as I'd expect. And the wait staff was very efficient and friendly. I'll definitely be back for more. Thanks for a great night.

I think new standard of excellence in BBQ here in Cincinnati is still owned by Eli's. Pontiac does a great job with the look and the feel, and the smoke in their meat is fairly well pronounced. Service was good, if not better than the food, however I'm pretty sure our server forgot to place our order because it took 20+min for our food while others waited much less time. I had the Sandwich of the day. Brisket, guac, chipotle sauce and fried onions. With such a soft bun I felt like it was one texture...soft and mushy. It was tasty. We also tried Baked beans, though flavorful could have been a soup....I like mine stick to the spoon style. Pulled pork again was mushy, I think they smoke then braise possibly. It was terribly "wet" like after it had been pulled it sat in a ton of stock or jus... Or was just plain cooked in water/stock. Overall I would go back, more to try some other stuff, and to eat just brisket...because EIi's always runs out before I get there LOL.

The brisket was one of the best I've ever had. It pulled apart with a fork. The ribs were fantastic as well - slid right off of the bone. We also had 2 cocktails - the old-fashioned and the tom-cat. The old-fashioned was extremely smooth - the maple and syrup used countered what most bar tenders use the cherries for - and the wife loved the tom-cat. We enjoyed the ambiance as well - it felt like we stepped in Texas through the gateway of OTR. Blues was playing in the background. It's worth arriving with 30-60 minutes to spare and assume that you'll be sitting at the bar. We put our names in (they text you with 10 minutes to go) and went to a nearby wine bar to kill time.

I was appalled at the choice of picture displayed in the men's room. I've censored this...It read, "F#%! B#tches, get money". What kind of warped, woman hater with a foul sense of humor expects patrons to think that's ok? I'm an adult and find it offensive. My problem is that my children used that bathroom and were subjected to this. To the owner of this place, you're a real class act. Shame on you. I will go out of my way to spread the word of your woman-hating, foul-mouthed opinion you so blatantly share. I heard (after I left) about the drink you had on your menu called "statutory grape". It appears you took that off your menu. Maybe you need a refresher course in social decency. As for the food: the brisket was dry, grits were lumpy, dinosaur bone was over-priced and very fatty, baked beans were pathetic. Other than that, it was a splendid evening. NOT!!

Food was really good and service was absolutely fantastic !!!! Food comes out to the table family style on a baking sheet...love this concept. We ordered the brisket, pulled pork, carrots/cauliflower, and Mac & cheese. All was good, I was skeptical about the carrots and cauliflower but it was so DELICIOUS! The service was great, starting with the hostess who patiently put up with me while I couldn't make up my mind whether to sit at the bar or at the 'community table'. Our server, Michael, was AWESOME!! He was funny, accommodating and answered all my crazy questions (like 'what on earth is the carrots & cauliflower? and who in the world would come to a bbq place and get that???' ...obviously I'm 'that' person, because I ordered it) Our food was brought out by another. He AND our server frequently checked with us to make sure everything was to our liking and that we had everything we needed. Like I said, great service. The menu isn't big, but that's why I love restaurants like this. They specialize is a few items and they do those few items well. P.S. - you have to give the carrots and cauliflower a try!!!!

Loved it!! The food was excellent, the staff was friendly and awesome. They were out of a bunch of stuff, but I am guessing its because they have only been open for a week. The pulled pork and the brisket were incredible!

first trip in for lunch- it was a busy May Saturday in OTR. While Pontiac wasn't my first choice I didn't leave disappointed. They have quite possibly the best BBQ Beans I have ever had, and after living in KC for 5 years I have had more than my fair share. The sauces were tasty and the brisket had the right balance of seasoning and smoke. The highlight may have been the beautiful bar and tasty cocktails.

Ambiance, beer selection and staff were nice but that is about where the positives end. Husband and I love trying new places and love adventuring to OTR for all the new eateries but this place left us sad; it just tried too hard to be hip. Chairs/stools uncomfortable, too much cumin in the ribs (why), bland grits (salt), white bread (corn bread) and dear god the crime they inflicted on the bread pudding so sad.

We split ribs and brisket. The brisket was cold and had zero flavor. It looked great, nice bark, smoke ring and was tender, but it had no flavor. The ribs had great flavor but it was a small portion. Also who leaves the membrane on ribs? Rookie move! We had three sides. My wife had the coleslaw and said it was good. We split the grits and baked beans. The beans looked like a bean stew and had tons of stringy meat it in. Not very good at all. The grits are ok but nothing to write home about. I feel like for the size of the portions it's very expensive. For two meals the sides and two drinks it was 45 bucks. I feel like this is solid midwest BBQ. If you like mediocre bbq this is the place, the Skyline of bbq.

Went here on a Saturday night around 6 or 7 pm with our neighbors, all late 20's/early 30 year olds. We were intending to hit Bakersfield, but we could sense a 2 hour wait as we approached, so we decided to check out Pontiac based on a collection of restaurants we had seen in Cincinnati Magazine (restaurants with Bourbon actually). We managed to immediately get seat at the table in the front, which meant sharing a long table with another group. NBD. I think we were lucky and you should plan on a wait. Atmosphere was fine, not noticeably loud even though the place was full, but we didn't really go very deep into the restaurant. Drinks: Wife had their rum cocktail in the fancy cup that they charge you $75 for if you steal. She was pleased. I ordered 2 bourbons during the meal, Lexington and whatever the very first one on the menu was. Neighbor seemed content with the beer selection. I recall he had a sour beer. I need to take a second to point out that the "bourbon" menu conflates all types of whiskeys by including Tennessee whiskey, true bourbons, and - iirc - rye and white dog all under the heading bourbon. Details, details. It's a very long list, but the only description is the price, which makes for an interesting discovery process. I suppose you could just start googling if you're picky. Apps: Fried pickles were wonderful. Entrees I had the fat cut (instead of the lean) brisket and it was delicious. Wife had the turkey, and it was very good and moist. Neighbors were disappointed with the pulled pork. Being from the carolinas, they say pulled pork == BBQ. They said it was really salty and neither of them finished. The meat, was however, taken off their bill. I think I'd have to go back to conduct more experiments... Saw someone next to us have the Dinosaur ribs delivered. They looked impressive, but I would have a hard time not ordering brisket. Sides Potato salad (not a mustard or vinegar variety, as is my preference) seemed a bit... sour creamy. Mac and cheese is absurdly cheesy and enjoyable. Both of those sides had bacon sprinkled on top. All the entrees come with 4 triangles of white bread. It looks like iron kids, but it is actually great, if you give it a chance. Don't recall seeing greens or corn pudding on the menu :( Service: I think we were in and out in less than 1.5 hours, easily. Servers were a bit rushed and stressed, so it's not like anyone was able to leave a lasting impression or get chatty with us. I could tell they were stressed, partly because I overheard a busboy being "encouraged" to bus faster, not an unusual request, and honestly, after going to so many ungodly slow restaurants, a good thing. However, in the end, our service was very smooth and didn't get in the way of our enjoyment of the restaurant.

Cute little place and the brisket is pretty tasty. The could use another bbq sauce recipe. Other than that, a fine place to eat in OTR.

Cool decor but small portions for the price. The drinks have interesting names and the menu is small. I think the BBQ is flavorful and the sauces are great additions. Unless you buy bigger portions, the meal leaves a little to be desired with small sides that are bought separately.

Just visited Pontiac for the first time tonight and it was pretty good! I would definitely say that if you're craving Eli's and its -7 outside (like it was tonight) this is a good stand in. We ordered the poutine with pulled pork and nacho cheese for an app and then the Texas brisket sandwich, pulled pork sandwich, grits and Mac and cheese. The poutine was alright, you can't go wrong with fries, cheese, and bbq pork all warm and gooey, pretty much the definition of comfort food. But not quite Senate level by any means. The sides were not that great. The Mac and cheese was kinda flavorless, I found myself adding quite a bit of salt and pepper. My boyfriend said the grits were okay but the Eagles were better. The star of the show was definitely the bbq. The pulled pork was tender and juicy, topped with classic slaw all on a toasty bun. The brisket was equally as yummy. I like how we could choose what type of bbq sauce we wanted and how much. Both sauces were made in house, one classic and one spicy. It was just what we were craving in terms of bbq but we found ourselves saying "the sides were good but XYZ has better". In term of service and ambiance, the staff was above and beyond friendly and attentive. You could tell they enjoyed their jobs and were very smile-y. The ambiance was what I couldn't quite put my finger on. It was sorta like Bakersfield with a large screen playing an old fashioned movie, the decor was also old fashioned but kinda sparse. The music was funky and loud. It is the definition of OTR style eating and it's nice to have a bbq option in the area. I would definitely like to go back and try it again, this time around I will try out some of the cool looking cocktails I saw floating around. I would recommend for anyone who like bbq but don't go in looking to be blown away by flavor.

Pontiac: a very cool restaurant/bar, with above-average bbq and just okay everything else. I tried the brisket sandwich, with a side of mac and cheese and some crinkle cut fries. First the sandwich. The brisket was quite good. For a smoked meat, I'd like a little more smokey flavor, but it was still great. The meat melts in your mouth, which is exactly how it should be. There was however a bit more fat in my sandwich than I'd like. Luckily, it wasn't hard or chewy fat, so it really didn't take away from the sandwich. Topped with Coleslaw and BBQ sauce, the sandwich overall is quite good. Side note: The spicy bbq sauce could use to have a bit more kick. I was disappointed with how mild it was. The mac and cheese was just fine. Same with the fries. I like having a side with my meal, so I'd order them again, but I can't see myself ever feeling excited about any of the sides Pontiac offers. The mac and cheese just seemed like Velveeta shells and cheese, except with different noodles. The fries seemed like frozen crinkle cut fries that you buy at the grocery store, but cooked in a real deep fryer so they turn out better. The sides all seem to almost be trying to be just average. It's as if Pontiac is trying to be one of those hole-in-the-wall bbq joints that you might find down south, where the food is cheap, nothing is gourmet, but the bbq is to die for. However, that isn't what Pontiac is! Pontiac is located in Over The Rhine, surrounded by a bunch of great restaurants, all of which offer small, specific menus, with food done exceptionally well. The Pontiac owners also own Senate and Abigail Street, both of which are a few blocks away and are fantastic. The way Pontiac is decorated, the neighborhood it's in, and the prices all make it seem like it's trying to be similar to other restaurants around. However, the food doesn't live up to it. The food in general, and the sides in particular, make it seem like Pontiac is having an identity crisis, not knowing if it wants to be a hip gourmet bbq restaurant or a hole in the way bbq joint. Pontiac is arguably one of the cooler restaurants in the area, but I can't imagine wanting to regularly spend $9 for a decent sandwich and $3 for fries on par with white castle. The really frustrating part, especially about the fries, is that the Senate (same owner) has some of the best fries I've ever had, so we know the poor quality really is a conscious decision. All in all, my main complaint about Pontiac is that it's trying to be two different things, and in turn doing neither of them well. It's an average bbq joint with a really cool building, trying to charge way too much for their food.

I had the pulled pork and the old fashioned. The meat was absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is pretty similar to other OTR places. The old fashioned is worth having. It had just the right amount of sweetness, but didn't take away from the flavor of the bourbon. I would definitely go back.

We ate here with a party of six. Food was awesome! Drinks good although they need a lighter beer than just Miller Lite. Limited seating as they wanted to seat us at a booth for 4 and six adults would be very tight! I highly recommend!

We came down to Cincinnati for a concert at Riverbend and we were planning on returning to The Eagle but after getting there and finding out that they had over an hour wait at 5 o'clock on a Sunday, we were guided across the street by the smell of sweet, delicious barbecue at Pontiac. AND OH MY GOD! It was beyond amazing! Everything from the service and the decor to the mouthwatering food and the abundant beer selection was phenomenal! We can not wait to take the drive back to Cincy from Indianapolis and return back to Pontiac!

I love this place! The poutine and pulled pork are incredible; I like the laid back atmosphere and the rustic decor and the service there is great. It's a bit small, so plan to wait if you're going for dinner, but pop in for a late lunch and you'll most likely get a seat pretty easily. It's a little on the pricey side, but it could be worse. But trust me: you get what you pay for. Delicious food and good service in a great location. I recommend it to everyone.

Food was average at best. And we were seated at 11:30 and told they were already out of ribs. Waitresses hover over you and snatch your plate away while you're still practically eating (guess they want to move you out quickly and make room for the next person). Coke is in cans so don't ask for a refill and at $2.50 this hardly seems reasonable. I generally love OTR eating and don't mind paying a little more when the food is unique and delicious. This had neither. Mac and cheese could have come from a box. BBQ was okay but portions were small. My advice is to wait the extra 10 minutes on a table at The Eagle across the street! It'll be worth it.

The Fried Pickles were undercooked, the Brisket was cold (and 1/3 of it was fat), and the waiter could only be, "Sorry". I don't need to go back. Why do I have to leave a rating? It was terrible and doesn't deserve a star.

This place had me wondering if I would be able to get better BBQ by going to the source (Texas). My friend from Texas gave his seal of approval so I'm thinking that this place is going to be a save me a trip. We ordered 1 1b of brisket, one of the dinosaur ribs, the pulled pork/nacho cheese poutine, mac and cheese and baked beans. The dinosaur rib was outstanding, with fall-off-the-bone tender meat with a nice crispiness on the edges. The fat and lean brisket was both really good. Everything is on the peppery side so if you're not into pepper, you may not enjoy it as much. The mac/cheese was merely ok, especially when compared to The Eagle across the street. The poutine made me re-think my previous decision about not liking poutine from my previous visit to Montreal. If it has pulled pork on it (especially Pontiac's), I'd definitely eat it. The place has a great ambiance and the servers were really helpful.

Nice to have a simple yet effective menu. The poutine is unique. If you are a vegetarian don't let the idea that it's just meat on a grill. Carrots and cauliflower is very flavorful as are the fries pickles. Best Old Fashion I have ever had.

Cool new place in otr. The building has a sliding door at the front so it can be opened up in good weather. The pulled pork has a bit of a pepper trays to it not the traditional sweetness so popular in Cincinnati. The sides were definetly the best part though. From grits to Mac n cheese they were all good.

Meh. It's pretty good. I like BBQ but would also like to have the options to add something healthy like a salad. The wedge was not exciting. I won't crave it like I expected.

Omg this place is amazing. I don't even like bbq and this blew my socks off. We had the pulled pork and the burrito with a side of Mac and cheese and the French fry appetizer. Everything was cooked to perfection and the flavor was outstanding.

We were out to have lunch in OTR -- there was a 30 minute wait at The Eagle, so we ventured across the street -- and very glad that we did. We sat at the bar, and the bartenders were attentive and friendly. They gave great beer suggestions. We ordered a 1/2 lb. of brisket (lean), the smoked sausage, baked beans and cole slaw to share. It arrived quickly on a large metal tray. The food was great -- we thought that the brisket was well seasoned with just enough smokiness to it. The smoked sausage was very tasty as well -- not too greasy, again with just enough smokiness. The beans were GREAT -- mildly sweet sauce with chunks of brisket -- a little bit of spicy to complement the sweet. We would definitely go back and recommend it to others.

My only problem here was trying to decide whether the meat was better with or without the sauce. I love sauce, and theirs was great, but the meat was seasoned so well that you don't need it at all. Great food, beer selection, and service. Also if you like bourbon, they have a wide selection as well. I would recommend the brisket or pulled pork and the baked beans. We also had the red neck Frito pie, which was a unique and delicious appetizer! Definitely a great addition to Vine St.!

I was really excited for this place to open, but lost a little interest each time the opening was pushed back. Still, I wanted to check it out because I am a fan of all that is going on in OTR. Like many others on these reviews here, I would say I was a little underwhelmed. I walked in as the first person of a group of 7. No one greeted me at the door and it was very hard to tell that the girl standing in front of the wall was the hostess. She had an iPad, but it wasn't obvious. Two ladies walked in right after me and were greeted right away. Not sure why I was initially ignored, but at least now I knew she was the hostess. I let her know that I needed to put my name in for a party of 7. She pointed to a booth behind her and asked if we would want to sit there if they added a chair on the end. The booth looked fairly cozy even for 4 people, so I told her I didn't think we wanted to squeeze 7 people into a 4 person booth. I told her we wait for a table large enough for my whole group. Once my name was on the list I walked over to the bar to get a drink while I waited for the rest of the group. All of the bar seats were filled and the folks behind the bar seemed none too eager to take my order. Once we eventually got some drinks, there was really no place to stand. There is not much room between the bar and the staircase, and there is constant server traffic so you feel like you are always in the way. Looking around, it seemed they didn't get it right with how they used the space. The front is very crowded, but the back seems to be missing the opportunity for more tables. We didn't have to wait too long for a table. I think I was quoted 30 mins and we were seated in 40. We sat at a community table at the front with a group of 4. Space seemed a little tight. There wasn't a ton of room for the server to maneuver between the windows and the table, and there was a similar issue on the other side between the table and the bar. People getting up from the bar were constantly hitting up against us at the table as they were coming/going. Once we were seated and everyone ordered, we were told that the food comes out really fast. Not exactly true, so I would suggest they stop leading with that. The food was just ok. I tried some of the buffalo fried pickles, they tasted ok but look like a pile of mush when they came out. There was so much grease in the containers that it leaked through and made a mess all over the table. I had the pulled pork sandwich and the mac and cheese. The pork was good. Nothing to write home about. The mac and cheese was just glorified Velveeta mac and cheese. I was hoping for something more exciting. Oddly enough, the best thing I tried all night was the cauliflower and carrots. Delicious. I'll give it another try. I know there is still a learning curve, so I won't swear it off just yet.

I went with a friend to Pontiac BBQ today and was very underwhelmed. The decor is nice, but the food was only average (not nearly as good as Eli's). I had the smoked turkey and found it rather bland and fatty (they don't grill theirs like Eli's does). The bun also wasn't toasted and was simply a bun you would buy at the grocery store The baked beans were good, but the slaw on the sandwich was strangely salty. My friend said her pulled pork sandwich and macaroni and cheese were good but nothing special and agreed the food wasn't as good as Eli's. That difference is even more pronounced when you consider that you can get a sandwich and two sides at Eli's for $8 and the same amount of food would cost you $14+ at Pontiac BBQ. In a nutshell, very overpriced and very average food....not up to par with Abigail Street and Senate.

My friends and I came here this past weekend for lunch. I wanted to like this place- but I just couldn't. The hostess was rude, made us wait even though 3/4 of our table was there, the other one was just parking. And the restaurant was empty. We ordered our food and drinks- I got the smoked wings and the mac and cheese. Our waiter forgot my friends order and we had to wait another 15 minutes before his food came out with barely an apology. The wings were underwhelming and the mac and cheese was awful- reminded me of Velveeta on spiral noodles. Then we waited another 15 minutes for our next round of drinks. Now if the place was packed I could understand this- but there were empty tables. As we were waiting for our drinks we witnessed the hostess yelling at some servers right in front of us. Another 20 minutes of get our check situation taken care of and we were on our way- never to return again. I love the thought of a BBQ place in OTR, but your $50 lunch is better spent anywhere else in OTR.

Awesome service and food. Every cocktail is good and everything is worth the wait. Be patient and remember to get the Frito pie. It's the best BBQ this city has ever seen. And yes I have been to Eli's and will stand by that comment.

We had a nice time here yesterday. The poutine bbq nacho fries were the highlight. The $21 brisket was a lowlight. I bbq all the time and brisket takes 15-18 hrs to do it right. I can tell that that go about 3-4 hrs smoked and then finish off in a an oven. It ends up tasting more like chuck roast. Brush up in this and go legit and I'll be back. Keep me posted. I know it's hard when it's cold in be winter but gotta figure it out.

This place is fantastic. The vibe is like an old dive bar/dinner, except everything is new and clean! The pulled pork nacho cheese poutine is a must have for an appetizer. It's so simple but so good! We also had the ribs and the brisket which were equally amazing. We have been twice now, had a great experience each time and will definitely be back!

Another one knocked out of the park from Dan! I've been there four times now. (Enough to give an honest review) each time was just better and better. I've eaten almost the whole menu and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Went for lunch which was perfect and not too busy yet. The service was great and I actually had enough of the waiters time to see how nice he really was. I'll be back again soon but first back to Abigail Street so I don't make her jealous! Oh!!! I almost forgot about the drinks... A few more trips in there and I don't think I'll have a license for much longer! They are sooooo good!

The decor and atmosphere is really well done trying to replicate a classic southern style BBQ place with an inner city flare. The bar and well selection is incredible though on the more expensive side. Some craft bears that are typically $6 a pint else where in town were served in a half pint goblet. The wait is typical of the OVR area and like other restaurants on the strip, there isn't enough standing room. One major issue is that apparently the bar is considered a seating area, meaning it can only be seated by the hostess. Of course this doesn't work and they either catch people diving into an open seat or they're served without waiting. Ditch that policy and only serve drinks and apps at the bar. The food is good not to the level of The Eagle, probably it's biggest competitor and target. The BBQ'd meats were great, so if you're a beef and pork fan you won't find much better; unfortunately the rest of the meal leaves a little to be desired. The mac & cheese was pretty plain (again comparing it to The Eagle it was pretty much Kraft), the fries were nothing special though the beans weren't half bad with a good kick to them. Over all it's a pretty good BBQ place but currently falls short of the competition and other restaurants in the OVR area. Fortunately a few slight adjustments that could be easily made would fix the problems and turn this place into a 5 star spot, till then though it deserves a 3. Check newer reviews to see if changes were made!

We tried Pontiac last night and overall were pretty pleased. I read reviews saying the brisket was awesome, and it definitely was. All the bbq and pulled meat dishes looked fantastic. However, the sides were a bit disappointing. The mac n cheese was good, very creamy, but could have easily been from a box, the fries also could have been straight out of an Ore Ida bag. It is nice that the sides are only $3 though, but I would much rather pay a little more to have something a little more special. I would absolutely go back, but will probably just get the brisket sandwich and avoid the sides.

Food ranges from terrible to bland. But, what I really dislike about the place is that they named a drink "statutory grape". That is just disgusting and moronic. Any business who's management thinks rape jokes are appropriate for their menu deserves all the worst. And so, they receive 1 star from me.

Really enjoyed the food, atmosphere and staff! I sat at the bar for lunch today. The bartender, Evan, was knowledgeable about the menu and super attentive. The brisket sandwich was delicious! It was the perfect size, not too messy and the slaw on top was a perfect compliment to the brisket. Definitely going to be back again soon!

My other half and I decided to to go this past Saturday. We were able to get seated right away at the communal table. It wasn't too bad sitting there. It did take about 15 mins until our server got to the table.. Once he got there, the service was amazing! I just wish it did not take so long to put the order in. I got the briskest sandwich and my other half got the pulled pork sandwich with us sharing the fries and mac and cheese. Ok, the food was average, nothing to get really excited about it. My brisket was pretty fatty, I am sure people love that. I am not a fan. I had to keep cutting off the fat. The pulled pork was fine. The mac and cheese was such a disappoint. We could not finish the little bowl of it. We tried but every bite we would have just did not make it better. Now the fires were the best part. I don't think that is a good thing, they seem to be frozen, but the seasoning was right now. I could not stop eating them. I do not think we will be back with all of the other options on Vine St. I am glad we went though.

I find it surprising and in poor business taste to unexpectedly "close early for the night". I had called earlier in the week to confirm Sunday hours as OTR has limited dining options on Sundays. I was quickly informed "11 am - 10 pm, it's online". Great! The plan was all week to have an all American BBQ dinner prior to the Superbowl. However, as my out of town guest and I arrived at 5pm for the meal we had been craving all week we were quickly told "we are actually closing the kitchen at 5pm today guys". 5PM!?! Why is a brand new restaurant closing prior to a potential dinner rush?? As I mentioned the options are limited on Sunday evenings in OTR so this move seemed lazy and in poor taste for a restaurant needing to establish itself. We quickly and without looking back headed across the street to The Eagle where we have been many times and where we will continue to dine until better reviews are heard of Pontiac.

Terrible service. We entered, were seated at the bar. Then a server comes and says "Oh the host didn't tell you, we are out of several items on the menu," and basically checked off over half the menu. As they have a small menu (usually a good thing), this left us with very few options. Nonetheless, we decided to stay and waited and waited, but no one took our order (despite us sitting at the bar in front of several bar tenders!). After waiting, what felt like a long time, we left. Can't comment on the food as we were never served.

I loved the cocktails here! I would highly suggest trying the Tomcat if you're a bourbon fan. All of the wait staff were nice and answered any questions we had. The food is okay, nothing great about it but I would skip the mac & cheese very bland.

I think there was a lot of hype for Pontiac so expectations were high going in. If I could give it 2.5 stars I would, but three is too many. The rubs were decent, nothing exciting or different. We tried the pulled pork, brisket, and hot links with three sides and we all agreed the hot links were the best item we had. Would go back to try to the chicken wings and turkey before deciding if I would go back again.

I would consider myself a connoisseur of brisket. I have had Franklin's, Pecan lodge, and many many others but Pontiacs brisket... Oh mama... How is this place in Ohio? When i first walked into Pontiac I was hit in the face with the nostalgic aroma i came to love traveling through Texas eating my weight in glorious meat. Unmistakable scent of oak wafted through the dining room and caught at the door and a calm fell over me and my hopes rose even more. I must say these guys did not disappoint. The wings were the best I've had. They somehow married smoky flavor, crispy skin, and sweet spice into the juiciest wing of my life. They should bottle that ranch also. Just saying. Continuing on I had ribs (look out eli), pulled pork, and of course the brisket. WOW! Ribs=amazing. Pork was juicy tender and slightly acidic. It reminded me of stopping at a bbq shack in NC on the way to the beach when I was young. The brisket. It was so moist and tender. As picked up my first piece and watched it accordion out i knew i had found something special. It was perfection. True perfection. I can't wait to return and eat more. Bravo Pontiac! Bravo!

I went to Pontiac the second day it opened and on their first Friday service. I had the brisket, turkey, hot links, baked beans, and grits. The food is good, my main issue was that it was lukewarm. I LOVE BBQ. If anyone dares says this place is as good as Franklin's in Austin, simply stop reading the review. The food a Pontiac is good, but Franklin's will change your perspective on food. I rated Pontiac low based on service. It's 2015 I expect the front of the house to be managed with more than a clip board. I also didn't like how they wouldn't take my phone number and made me wait in the restaurant. It's a really small space so waiting around is not ideal and you get in the way of the waiters. They should invest in a management system that would help them with wait times and food inventory. It's unacceptable to run out of brisket an hour into the service on a Friday night. Also, please don't jam 10 people into the front communal table, at most it can sit 8. This is not the owner's first restaurant so I expect a better run restaurant especially with the premium prices being charged.

There are some bad things about this place, particularly on a Friday night. The communal table in the front. Not enough space if you sit next to someone larger than a women's 12 (and that's many folks outside of New York and California) and the communal table is difficult for wait staff to navigate. And the place is too small in general for the GREAT FOOD!! The fatty side brisket is amazing!! They actually ran out of it... so it's that popular and they need to manage food supply better. And the food came out lukewarm, but I consider that a service issue. The links and grits are good too. I'm also not a fan of turkey but liked it here because it was moist pre bbq sauce, like many of the meats. I have to give it 4 stars because it's rough sitting at the kid, I mean communal table. But the food is excellent!! Go at an off meal time to avoid a long wait. . But definitely go.

I had read reviews of Pontiac and I would have to agree with most. We went to Pontiac because the wait at the Eagle was too long and we looked out the window and Pontiac was staring at us so we gave it a shot. The best part about Pontiac was the short wait and the staff. It was still slightly busy for a Saturday night so we went to the bar however, like other reviewers said, there was little to nowhere to stand. One of the hosts came over and took our drink order and even brought us our drinks so we wouldn't have to fight to get to the bartenders. We were then sat at the bar for dinner, which was fine because we were starving. The food was ok. We ordered a pulled pork sandwich, brisket sandwich, mac and cheese and fried pickles. The mac and cheese was very generic, nothing special. Same with the pickles and pulled pork but the brisket was probably the highlight. We ordered some craft beers and were in and out within an hour and a half. I recommend this place if you're in a hurry.

Hands down the best barbecue in cincinnati. When I first came here I compared it to Eli's and I thought I liked Eli's better. After bouncing back and forth for a while I realized my first thoughts were based on the nostalgia of eating at Eli's. The food at Pontiac is hands down no comparison better. Granted I do love the outdoor seating at Eli's but I will take Pontiac's food any day. As a fan of both restaurants reading the reviews of this place drive me insane. One review actually said they think the brisket at Eli's is way better ???? Eli's has never had brisket so stupid people are just talking shit to talk shit. The brisket here is amazing. I must say though the fatty is definitely the way to go , so much more flavor and juiciness. The chicken wings are to die for. And I love that they do a sandwich of the day. Everything comes À la carte, the side dishes are all pretty good. I didn't care much for the potato salad , but to be fair I don't really like potato salad , I just tried my friends. Service is outstanding , very prompt knowledgeable and friendly. The beer selection is great , they have 4 rotating drafts so it gets mixed up quite a bit. They have 70+ bourbons on the list , and just recently started doing 1/2 sized pours so you could do more affordable tastes of nicer bourbons. The cocktails are very interesting, they do bourbon cocktails which are all pretty awesome. But they also do tiki drinks which are delicious and the sweetness goes great with Bbq. They say all of the drinks on the menu are made up there , so it's the only place you could get said drinks. My favorite was one with blended banana vanilla rum , some other ingredients I forget and topped with cider beer. Sadly they took it off. But the others are all really good too. Summer breeze made with cantaloupe, cucumber cilantro rum is soooooo refreshing, and comes with garnish that looks like a little planet , or 1/2 an avocado. All in all this is one of my favorite places in town, not surprised coming from the people who brought us Senate and Abigail st.

It's hard being a BBQ joint in Cincinnati. And it's really hard to give a 3 star review to a BBQ joint. I really want it to be 5, and maybe someday it will be. Our server was friendly, but a little odd and overbearing. He was around when we didn't need him, and no where to be found when we did. But, we're resourceful, and we survived. There was a ton of meat on the ribs compared to other places, and the pulled pork was very juicy, but I didn't feel like it met the price we paid. Mostly because of the sides. Overall, I wasn't impressed, but I was content when I left. I think if I didn't have my kids with me, I would have been more inclined to focus on more meat (and drink). The decor is really cool, but is completely undermined by the huge flat-screen TVs hanging above the bar. I'm not sure if it's true, but I would like to believe one could have a successful establishment in OTR without massive TVs at the bar. This is a BBQ and Bourbon restaurant in my neighborhood, so of course I'll be there often enough. I'm not a fool.

Visited Pontiac for the second time this weekend. I wasn't totally blown away during our first visit, and I figured I would give it a second chance. I've heard they have great bourbon, but we stuck to the beer menu. They have an extensive bottle list (I chose a White Rajah IPA), and the service was quick. We started with the Red Neck Frito Pie, which is both ridiculous and absolutely delicious. A bag of Fritos with pulled pork, cheese, and all the fixin's. Definitely a spot-on drunk snack. I've had the brisket sandwich on both occasions I've eaten at Pontiac, and I was not disappointed. The brisket strikes the perfect balance between fattiness and meatiness, and the creamy, tangy coleslaw is a perfect complement. The sides were forgettable: the grits, despite being covered in jalapeños, were a little bland. I appreciated the bacon covering the mac 'n cheese, but it was also quite flavorless. I wouldn't say the sides tasted bad, but I would have rather just ordered a sandwich.

I love southern style food with pulled pork and all the glory of brisket and ribs and they did NOT disappoint. I went there on a Friday evening around 6:45 and there was no wait which was excellent as other restaurants were texting us saying they were ready as we already ate. I got the pulled pork sandwich as my main dish and the taste was excellent; however, there was no way to eat it in the bun so I had to use a fork because it was falling apart but I was not upset about that haha. I also got fried pickles as an appetizer and it was some of the best I have ever had. The sauce that it came with was sweet and kind of like ranch and something else mixed in. I also dipped them in their house bbq sauce and it was still amazing. I really enjoyed this meal and will definitely be coming back for some southern style fixings :).

Waaay overpriced for mediocre barbecue, and the cocktails were mostly ice. Maybe we came on a bad night, but, for my money, Eli's is head and shoulders above this place.

Meatiest, Smokiest, Most Favorable Ribs in Town!!!...and I won the 1992 Cincinnati BBQ competition with Gary Burbank and Jimmy Gerardi judging, my cousin won Memphis in May. I've eaten at and reviewed more BBQ spots than 99% of yelpers. More meat on these ribs than any other restaurant in town. They source their ribs from a special and rare source that apparently no one else in town is willing to pay for. Chef Straw has a string of hits in this town that is charting him on a course of culinary history. The owner is also a genius restauranteur. They apparently did a ton of research across the nation to custom create the ultimate cooking processes, recipes, sourcing, overall menu, ambiance and more. If more Cincinnati restaurants did market research like these guys, if more operators had half as much love for the customer and respect for the customer experience as these guys Cincinnati would be the restaurant capital of the world. You will be thoroughly impressed with the experiences of flavor etc. Negative side, hey, hip places in the hippest of spots in OTR tend to be a bit tighter than the boring open spaced places of suburbia. But if you want the benefits of a chain (lowest BBQ prices, open spaces and overly giddy teenage waitresses), go elsewhere. This is a place for the pros. Amateurs won't like it. I eat more BBQ out across this country than 99% of Americans with all my travel and I can promise you this place is awesome,

The sun was shining bright today, so my guy suggested we check out the BBQ at Pontiac. I'm glad he did! Like most restaurants in OTR, the space is small with limited seating. The wait wasn't bad at all for a Sunday afternoon. We were welcomed to open seating at the bar, but opted to wait for a booth. The wait was less than 5 minutes. We were seated in a comfy booth and greeted shortly after by our friendly waiter. Our waiter was kind enough to go over some crowd favorites and let us know they were out of the St Louis rib. No worries. I'm not a fan of ribs anyway. I could appreciate him telling us in advance though. We shared the Brisket with coleslaw, mac&cheese and grits. Yum! Everything was great. The brisket was so tender! They offer a mild (sweet &tangy) and hot (more smoky) BBQ sauce. Sorry Eli's but Pontiac is a WIN!

My friends and I stopped in around 7 pm for a week night dinner after doing yoga at Washington Park. The server was quick and friendly, and seemed to be very knowledge about the menu. They are known for their bourbon selection (we passed on that) and also have a good beer selection. I opted for a Little Kings for $2, which is honestly such a good bargain! We all got the Pulled Pork Sandwich-which was excellent-and split baked beans and their cheese bacon jalapeño grits. The baked beans were a little sweeter than expected. Overall everything was great! Another solid OTR establishment.

So, this has become my favorite restaurant in Cincinnati. I live out of state now, but when I come back to visit, going to Pontiac is in my list of things to do. While it's a pretty small place, it's definitely worth the wait. The ribs are out of this world! I usually get those along with a side of fries. Their good both with or without the sauce on them. There isn't any place around where I live as good as Pontiac, so I usually get me a 1/2 to bring back home with me. Go to Pontiac, you'll enjoy it!

Tl;dr service is great after you sit down, but the food just doesn't live up to the senate! Flavorless grits, cold meat. Okay, I've avoided Pontiac for awhile now. Why? Because a 3.5 star average is not what I expect from OTR, and especially not from the people behind the senate. Unfortunately, as I was afraid of, I was disappointed. Let's take it from the beginning... I called and asked how long the wait was. The bartender says "oh we should be able to fit you in" we walk in 5 minutes later only to have the hostess tell us it'll be 30+ mins. But, I just called I said, someone said we should be able to fit in. "Yeah, it's like that. And then they fill up," she says, then she proceeds to impress us further more by saying, "the games on, so I don't know when they're going to leave" I thought she might suggest we get a happy meal next due to the sad, sad look on our faces. I told my SO, we're waiting no matter the cost, because I want to try this, once and for all and get my own verdict. So we went to grab a cup of tea at 1215. While ordering I receive 2 successive texts. One said our table was available. One immediately after said our table was now being given to another party. Outraged at the unfairness I called the restaurant. The hostess tells me that it was just an automated text and she could actually hold our seats for another 10 mins 0.o ...okay. So we pay and run down the street to Pontiac. Thank goodness our seats were actually available, because they didn't "fill up" After we sat down, service was fabulous. The bartenders were attentive and gave us cups to take their house made bbq sauce to go with our left overs. We hadn't even asked for the cups! We had the half order of brisket (comes w/ pickles, pile of blanched white onion, and 2 slices of white bread cut diagonally) AND the cheese grits. Verdict: no autentico my friends. While it looks good, and plenty of our bourbon and whiskey are on display, this place looks like the real deal, but isn't. This food was obviously crafted by people who have no idea what southern cooking should be, What phenomenon cheese grits CAN be or how to create a depth of flavors within this genre of food. I am a cheese grit lover! The restaurant at which I fell in love with them doesn't even exist anymore and I've been on an eternal quest to find some just as good. These are not it. Pontiac cheese grits are flavorless, no seasoning, and worst of all tasted like raw flour. The consistency was thick and gelatinous, like corn jello almost? If this wasn't sad enough, the toppings were salt in the wound. Bacon barely added flavor, and the jalepeno on top was BLANCHED, not even pickled?! Omg. No flavor to be found ANYWHERE. No cheese, bacon, or salt was detected on my palate. The brisket while tender...was cold and flavorless as well. The sauces both tasted like the same exact sauce ( one spicy and one not). While both were spicy and sweet, with a touch of smoke, the flavor was not well rounded. Spice, smoke, sweet a good bbq sauce does not make. There needs to be more profile, something detectable, and with meat that cold and bland, the flat sauce stood out even more. Last time I doubt you yelp. Last time. The senate masters can't seem to strike gold more than once... Abigail and now Pontiac have disappointed me beyond return. Back to senate I go.

We tried to come last night and for two at the bar it was an hour and a half wait. That being said, that is the norm for OTR on a Saturday night. We decided to come back today for lunch and we are leaving satisfied! I think we're still rankin Eli's number one for BBQ in Cincy, but Pontiac is a very close second. Here's the low down. Pontiac is much more hip. Which is to be expected and is in no way an insult. It's Over-the-Rhine. The vibe here is awesome. Excellent rock a billy jams cranking, and the decor is very Austin-esc. Positives on vibe all around. The food, oh the food. Where to start. As stated in my review of Eli's in partial to Texas and KC style BBQ due to familial ties. The Dino- bone beef rib brought back memories to a trip to Lockhart TX, Blacks BBQ. And this my friends is a compliment. So obviously we liked Pontiac and will be coming back, some tips though. If you don't want an insane wait, don't go on Friday or Saturday night. If you are however willing to wait, then do it :). This like all the joints in OTR is small, so, maybe think about sticking to parties of 2 or 4. Also note, unlike Eli's or other similar BBQ Joints, the price point here is higher, worth it, but higher. With a 30 dollar cocktail on the menu and a 26 dollar rib, you could drop some coin.

Came here with Jessie T. and she already wrote up her review on her experience. But, my bf and I ordered the half pound of pulled pork and brisket sandwich with bacon grits and mac and cheese. The pulled pork was a little dry and came with some white bread, pickles, and raw onions. The brisket sandwich was a huge pile of meat and coleslaw on a nondescript white hamburger bun. The 2 sauces available were sweet and slightly spicier version of its brother. The pulled pork was a little dry and the raw onions were overpowering, the onions could have been pickled to complement the meat more. However, the brisket sandwich was really good. Tender and juicy, the coleslaw on top added creaminess. It was just so unfortunate that they chose to place it on such a teensie bun. Everything kind of fell apart after the first bite. The grits were nice and buttery, with lots of cheese and jalapenos. As for the mac and cheese though, it was just ok. Mushy macaroni with thick one note nacho cheesiness. Pros: the brisket sandwich, nice atmosphere, large beer and bourbon selection. Cons: pricey bbq, foods felt like it came up short. The dry pork, raw onions, puny bun, and mediocre mac and cheese. With a small menu, I think they could improve all the aspects of their plates to make a wholly better product. Overall: Pontiac seems to be trying to carve out a space in OTR among all the craft food establishments. However, some more attention to detail to all aspects of their menu would greatly benefit their product. Would I come back? Maybe, I'll probably give it another shot in a few months when they get all their ducks in a row.

Three of us went to Pontiac's. I got the ribs and the other two got the Brisket. I tasted the Briskit and it was delicious - the ribs not so good. I would not recommend them. Mac and Cheese was not very good at all, grits were good as was the wedge of lettuce salad. Service was very good.

Service: Very friendly & descriptive of menu Food: Not great; not bad. Was expecting better quality, given OTR has some great restaurants that range from simple to highly eclectic options. Had the ribs (mainly bone and nothing to rave about as far as flavor) & mac-n-chs (meh). The cocktails were alright. Tried the fries and they appeared to be out of a bag without much thought or prep. Nothing really stood out. I will try a different item next time; once they get going and prob for lunch. Heard their brisket was good but they ran out while I was there. Time will tell and hopefully improve/distinguish their flavors a bit more.

I used to say the best BBQ was from Layman and Helen's in rural northeast Louisiana. I've had TX and KC BBQ and until I ate at Pointiac's today , I would have still said the same. The Dinosaur Beef RIb was so delicious, tender, meaty, and FLAVORFUL. The signature drinks are perfectly crafted --you can't go wrong with the Tomcat Fizz or the Hawaiin Punch. I could take or leave the potato salad and next time, I will leave it. The wings are excellent as long as you're not comparing them to the DBR. I'm definitely going back.
