Three stars because despite its setbacks the hot stone bowl bi bim bap is excellent. Overall, and including the hot stone bowl, the food is overpriced and it takes a really long time to eat here for lunch. Also they automatically add 20% gratuity for parties of 5+. Also last time I was there my meal charge was $2 more on the bill than on the menu which was not cool. They fixed it but that's pretty weak to upcharge $2.

Being one of the many lunch spots in the downtown Cincinnati area, Mr. Sushi finds itself competing against a wide variety of nearby dining options on any given day. These range from the more upper end establishments such as Prime 47 and Nada, both of which are situated practically right next door, to staples such as Panera Bread just around the corner. If hot dogs from a cart are what you are in the mood for, you can find those down here, too. There is even a Chipotle-esque "you point at it, we make it" type sushi place a block away. Finding myself in the heart of Cincinnati at lunch on a weekday is a rare occurrence for me, but at the suggestion of my co-worker, we stopped in here. The room itself is perhaps a bit larger than one would expect just by looking at it from the glass and aluminum front that faces 6th street. It is a high ceilinged space, done in bamboo greens, whites and warm teak wood tones. We were greeted immediately; given our choice of sitting at the "sushi bar" counter straight ahead as you enter, or at a seat or booth in the main space to the right. Choosing the latter, we were led to a comfortable table and provided with several lunch menus. Our server, Abby, soon arrived to take our drink orders. Her enthusiastic "Oh my God it is really good" look and response to my friend when he asked about their raspberry tea left no doubt as to its deliciousness. A moment later she was back with our beverages, and we ordered. There are two lunch menus: One is their sushi menu, which is moderately extensive with 42 different rolls, the other has an assortment of Japanese starters, main dishes, deserts and drinks. I order the Hot Stone Bowl Bibimbap. It consists of assorted vegetables over rice with shrimp (normally beef), a fried egg on top, and a sweet, spicy Bibimbap sauce on the side. This also comes with a salad. My lunch mate ordered the Bento box, which consists of the protein of choice, rice, a house salad, and assorted side dishes. He also ordered a bowl of soup. Shortly the food arrives. I find that while I enjoy the flavor of the dressing, the salad is completely over-dressed. It is swimming in dressing. The piping hot stone bowl (which cost one dollar extra to heat, but is so worth it) contains artfully cut carrots, cucumbers, daikon radish, and seaweed. There are a few shrimp, which are rather smallish, and the fried egg. I dig in. The veggies are very fresh, but I find that the egg has seemingly cooked to a semi-solid yolk from the heat of the rice below. Good, but not the creamy, yolky delight you would get with a full runny center. The rice on the bottom is fantastic. The hot stone bowl has created a wonderfully crusty layer where the two meet. I really, really enjoyed this. The Bibimbap sauce that accompanies the dish is great. I would take a bottle of it home if I could. My lunch mate thoroughly enjoyed his meal too, yet found that the bowl of soup became just too much food. He felt that the soup alone would have made a meal. Like mine, everything in the "box" was fresh and well prepared. They have 1/2 price sushi after four, being that they cater mainly to the downtown lunch crowd. They have a full bar, and several TVs behind the bar with sports and news. Overall, I really enjoyed lunch here. It was reasonably priced, but not "cheap". If I find myself down here again for lunch, I would certainly put Mr. Sushi's on my list of food possibilities.

This used to be my go-to sushi restaurant. Went back recently and it wasn't quite as good as I had remembered but still some tasty rolls.

Food was good, half off sushi was a great deal and the manager was super nice! Great place to come get some sushi.

I can't speak for the sushi just yet but Mr. Sushi's affordable lunch menu and many options are definitely causes for a return visit. I grabbed lunch at Mr. Sushi with a co-worker and was told that their hot stone bowl bibimbap was the bomb dot com...so I gladly obliged and tried it out. For $10, you get basically get two lunches! Lots of rice, veggie, beef and a perfectly cooked egg on top and you've got yourself the makings of a delicious meal that's perfectly accented with the sweet yet spicy sauce they provide. I added some soy sauce on top just to jazz it up a little more. Great lunch and definitely up to going again.

Unfortunately, I can't write a review on the food. We walked in to an entirely empty restaurant at 5:00 today and were immediately told we could not come in with the iced coffee we each had in hand. We promptly left and paid for our dinner across the street, where we were not turned away. And even though we had coffee in hand, we still ordered drinks with dinner! Don't plan on returning.

I've been to Mr. Sushi 3 times. every time the restaurant is not busy at all. I went yesterday and sat outside with my friends after I recommended that we go there. We were seated and brought waters, without being asked if we wanted anything else to drink. After that we didn't see our waitress for at least 20 minutes. I ordered a salad and one of my friends order miso soup, the other wonton soup. She brought my salad and the miso soup out, and didn't bring the wonton soup for 15 more minutes. I'm sure they had to make the wontons or something but she should've waited to bring them all together. And she couldn't warned my friend that it would take longer if that was the case. Then when we got our sushi we didn't have any bowls or soy for our sushi so we waited for her to bring it and we watched her talking to another employee for 5-10 min before coming back out with the soy sauce. I'm not one to complain, because I really did like this place, 1/2 prices sushi is great but poor service isn't worth it. There are other places with 1/2 priced sushi and better service.

My boyfriend and I's experience here was fantastic. It was later at night and they sat us by the bar which we didn't mind. As we ordered (everything was half off) the sushi chef was talking to us like we were regulars. This was great because he kept giving us stuff for free to sample and it was all very good. He asked what we liked and if we liked it hot or not and he made us a few things. He was very friendly and the servers made sure our drinks were filled at all times. The food was incredible and so was the service. I will be coming back as often as my wallet will allow.

First time here and loved it! Visited on a Saturday night and enjoyed the 1/2 off Sushi deal. Ordered a variety of rolls and Nigiri - all were fresh and tasted great! Unfortunately did not get a photo, since as soon as it came out we devoured it :) Only small complaint is that the server tended to visit the table asking how we were doing a bit too frequently. This place still gets 5 stars in my book though, since that is not really a BAD thing, just not my preference. Also, I'm not sure why people complained about the ambiance being "too upscale"...did they not see Boca right across the street with its white tablecloths? This place is neither upscale nor divey, it is the happy medium = a trendy-casual establishment. Will definitely be back!

I went all out for carry out at my first Mr. Sushi experience. While walk up, carry out didn't seem like their thing they were so nice and accommodating. I sat at the bar and sipped water while they prepped my order. California Roll, Red Snapper and the Mango Roll were my selections and I had a salad to with their house dressing. Since my experience was a week ago, I don't want to attempt to recall the food too vividly. The size of the mango roll stuck with me, quite a portion. The sushi was solid and the prices were reasonable enough. I will say you pay for the environment to some extent so carry out may make a bit more sense elsewhere.

I tried Mr Sushi for the first time today, and I loved it! Their house salad was delicious, and their shrimp fried rice was amazingly fresh. The only part that I didn't love was the fact that they put green peppers in their fried rice. I like green peppers, but not in fried rice. Overall, I am excited to visit Mr. sushi again!

I just ate lunch here with my wife, and it was our first time here. Even with the busy lunch rush we were able to be seated at the bar right away, and our server was very prompt, friendly and attentive. Our food, I had Tempura Udon and my wife had Yokisoba, came out right when we were ready, everything was very delicious, and the portions were quite large so we also have leftovers. I look forward to going back again soon to try their sushi.

Excellent location downtown. We sat at the sushi bar in an attempt to be in and out fast. The staff was extemely accommodating. Seaweed salad and miso soup were ready instantly. Sushi chef went right to work on our order. Rolls were 90% fish 10% rice earning big smiles from us. The squid nigiri was perfectly chewy to the point where after having two pieces, we went in again for two more...and two pieces of sea urchin (taste the ocean my friends). For drinks they had Bombay sapphire east. Something I haven't seen before. Had an excellent taste of juniper plus far east spice in it. Wonderful. It also helped that my gun and tonic was primarily all gin with a splash of tonic. They win for that too. I thought the rice was a little dry/stale. Maybe had been sitting around for too long. Won't hold it against em. Will be back.

I typically go to Mr. Sushi for lunch, but decided to try dinner as a part of our ladies dinner club. I arrived at 5:45pm and was seated very quickly even with a request for a table for nine. Once all members of the party arrived, service began to go downhill quickly. The server was extremely slow in filling waters, getting drinks from the bar and even bringing non-sushi menus. Food arrived quick once ordered and I will attest that my roll (asparagus tempura) was amazing. However, during dinner we had to refill our own waters as the server was nowhere to be seen. We sat at our table with empty plates for 30 minutes before the server returned to bring checks and she never even asked us about dessert. I will likely reserve Mr. Sushi for carry out as the food was delicious.

Really good sushi, but suddenly only able to order a day in advance? Even if its around 4 pm. Strange, I cant help but feel like they should be able to check their orders and delivery them same day.

People generally like Mr. Sushi over most options in the area, which I find incredible. Incredibly wonky. First time I got the chirashi. No good. You don't come to your run-of-the-mill sushi chain in Ohio to get high quality, fresh fish. If anything, you come to get those crazy big rolls exploding with mayo, cheese, and delicious imitation crab. Should've learned my lesson the second time, but I just wasn't feeling a chunky "Yum Yum" or "Rock-and-Roll," so I got the spicy roll combo (shrimp and tuna). Forgettable. And what's worse is that both times I've been here, the rice tasted hard as if it were either undercooked or re-frozen. Service is decent though. They operate quickly because they're used to serving the weekday lunch crowd, so you can get your fix (or not) and get outta there in a jiffy.

This place can't seem to decide what it wants to be. It's a little too upscale-looking inside to be advertising half price sushi 7 days a week, karaoke, and cheap shots. It would be more palatable if this place was a bit more like Drunken Bento in Clifton (i.e. More casual.) No complaints about service. It was empty at dinner time on a pretty busy Saturday night. That being said, the sushi *is* half price after 4pm - I can't think of a better deal in the downtown area.

Coming from the west coast we've been really weary to have sushi in the Midwest but we were pleasantly surprised by their fish quality. Mr sushi had great miso soup and salad to start you off and like I said the fish seemed pretty fresh. The reason why this place lost a star, though, is because I felt like the rice that they used in their rolls and nigiri seemed a little old and cold.. If you know what I mean. I don't expect the rice to be hot because I know that's not how you make sushi but the rice just seemed slightly stale. As if it had been out for awhile or maybe even refrigerated from the morning and not completely thawed out. Also, the California rolls were a downer. I uploaded a picture of the California rolls that we got to show how skimpy the filling was. Other than that, the freshness of their fish made their nigiri really good, the dragon roll was good, and we tried something called the niji (I think) roll which was also really good. The niji roll is a pretty big roll with bits of different types of sashimi on the inside so if you like sushi with a lot of fish in it we recommend this roll. We like the fish quality here so we'll be back when we need another sashimi/sushi fix. The place had Korean dishes on their menu which means it's probably owned by Koreans. If anyone knows of other sushi restaurants in Cincinnati with great fish quality and is authentically owned by Japanese people then we'd love to get recommendations!

Visited the "New" Mr. Sushi last night after a long absence because of customer service issues with the "old" place, where I was regular and spent quite a bit of money--- I was, to say the least, not impressed-- first, I noticed right away that the new proprietor seems to have replaced the existing Sushi Bar with a higher, "bar-height" Sushi bar, which now makes it impossible for me, a wheelchair user to sit there and interact with the Sushi chef, which USED to be half the draw of going to Mr. Sushi-- THEN, as if the new, less accessible environment wasn't bad enough, I discovered their new so-called "half-priced" Sushi menu, which includes a limited selection of maki rolls and no sashimi dinners-- you have to purchase sashimi a la carte, by the piece now-- but that wasn't the best part. As a veteran of the previous incarnation of the place, I knew the menu and prices very well-- and quickly saw that while they did cut some prices in half, they first raised the FULL prices first-- just another "bait and switch". I started adding up their new prices for sashimi by the piece and quickly found out that buying the equivalent of their old "Sashimi regular" or "Sashimi deluxe" plates would be more expensive-- MUCH more expensive. I pointed this out to the waiter, who first insisted that it was cheaper until I started adding it up for him. They then begrudgingly offered to make me up the "sashimi deluxe" plate, but having seen a couple of really skimpy sashimi plates go by me, I cautiously refused, and opted instead for the Rainbow Roll and a glass of Persecco. When the roll arrived, I discovered how they're able to offer it half-priced now. Much smaller roll, and covered with more thinly sliced sashimi-- that's where they get ya, as the saying goes. Even though I had my issues with the original Mr. Sushi, I can honestly say that they gave you a respectably generous plate of sushi and sashimi for a good price. Oh, how I long for them now... RIP to the old AND the "new" Mr. Sushi-- with things as they are, they'll go down the tubes really fast...

A must go to spot. Half off fresh sushi after 4 PM cannot be beat. The service is outstanding and we always make a point to sit at the bar, why not enjoy watching the Sushi Chefs make your meal while engaging in good conversation?

Mr. Sushi is a great sushi place for larger rolls on a weeknight- I like the ambience (romantic + lively in a different way); great happy hour prices (making the larger rolls worth it). - Check our the specials they have right when you walk in - Try to get there before the crowd (parking might be hard to find)!

Much like another person wrote, the name of this place is a bit odd. "Let's go to Mr Sushi while we are in Cincinnatti" just seems odd. Anyhow, it was pretty good and reasonably priced. I had the spicy (quite) tuna and spicy Cali rolls and 3 pieces of sushi. That came with salad and soup. I would say everything was as expected but my miso soup was almost luke warm. It was a bit disappointing. Amazing? No. A good place for a meal? Yep.

Mr. Sushi has the best sushi in Cincinnati in my opinion. Its very fresh and always delicious. I also enjoy their spicy chicken quite a bit. If you go in for lunch they have some pretty good deals considering the quality and if you can get Ina to serve you you won't be disappointed.

Modern, large resturant with large bar area. The staff - from host to waiter could not have been more pleasant. Extensive such selections as well as some Thai, Chinese, and Japanese cooked entree selections. We went on a Thursday night and had 1/2 price sushi. Very enjoyable experience and glad we came.

A good place conveniently located downtown. I had the Shrimp Fried Rice. It came with a salad which I think is the first time I've ever seen something additional coming with the fried rice. My friend had the sushi which I tried. Afterall its a sushi place, right. The sushi was fresh and tasty. I'd go back again.

This location was celebrating some kind of grand opening today, and food was served buffet style with ayce sushi for $20. There was little to no seating as they cleared out a lot of seating in favor of a DJ and dance area. The food available at the buffet was abysmal... There was some fried rice and jjapchae, along with bone scraps of galbi and tiny pieces of fried chicken. The only sushi available were some rolls that didn't look appetizing. We walked out without eating halfway through the buffet line.

Like many visitors I was thrown off by the restaurant's playful name, but upon arrival I was immediately impressed by the sophisticated and modern decorations and atmosphere. The wait staff was prompt and cheerful. The menu is expansive but not overwhelming. Their sushi selection hits all the must haves with a few unique additions. We tried a house specialty appetizer with thin rice noodles, spiced tuna, cucumber, jalapenos and a few other ingredients. It was amazing and a new must for future visits. The sushi rolls were bigger than expected and tasted very fresh. Overall the best sushi I've had in Cincy!

What an awesome dinner experience! My husband and I rarely have the opportunity to dine out, so we wanted to make sure we chose juuust the right place ; we definitely did! We arrived around 6:30 on a Saturday and it was pretty empty, but that's to be expected for an early dinner on a Saturday. As we sat there tables started filling up. We sat at the bar, but there were numerous tables and booths available as well. I can't remember exactly what we ordered, but it was amazing! I def recommend this place for a delicious sushi outing!

I am really glad there is a fine restaurant downtown that serves tofu it is so hard to come by these days! Not only does Mr.Sushi have excellent food but the restaurant is very nice and the staff is very nice which makes me feel like this is one place I will definitely be stopping by more often!

In my original review, more than two years ago, I said Mr. Sushi was the "Average Guy" of sushi restaurants, in that almost everything about it--food, service, decor--was completely average and generic. After visiting Mr. Sushi for lunch every few weeks since then, I might have to revise my description. Mr. Sushi should now be called "Mr. Inconsistent." Sometimes, it's a four-star sushi joint with fresh-and-bright-tasting, neatly-assembled sushi with generous cuts of fish. I've also discovered that Mr. Sushi does a really credible job with dolsot bibimbab, which is a good lunch value at $11 for a huge serving. But on too many other occasions, Mr. Sushi is a mediocre and chintzy two-star sushi joint. In the prison cooking scene in "Goodfellas," Ray Liotta talks about how mob boss Paulie had a wonderful system for doing the garlic: "He used a razor, and he would slice it so thin that it would liquify in the pan." Well, sometimes the sushi chefs at Mr. Inconsistent seem to be inspired by this "Goodfellas" scene, except that they're trying to slice the fish so paper-thin that the restaurant can get 11,500 pieces of nigiri out out of a single block of fish. Actually, the sushi chefs are probably just browbeaten into doing it by a cheapskate manager or owner, but it's a disgraceful and off-putting practice in any sushi place, and a rip-off. (Also, sometimes various items in the bento boxes seem like they've been pulled out of a walk-in and heated up in a microwave.) For now, still three stars, at least until Mr. Sushi tips one way or the other and becomes either consistently good or consistently bad.

Mr. Sushi has many, many things going for it. But the best may be the fact that it's open late: 10pm on the weekdays and 3am on the weekend! Not always do I crave sushi late at night, but there are those times ... and when they hit, I am glad this place exists. That's not to say the rest of it isn't pretty good too. It's a chic restaurant located downtown (around the street from the Aronoff) with mood lighting and comfortable seating. It's a large restaurant but still can be crazy crowded during the lunch rush so just watch out for that. Mr. Sushi (still a strange name to me) has a great menu filled with sushi items and other Japanese cuisine. It's a large menu with really solid prices (most sushi is anywhere from $5 to $12 and the entrees are $10 to $20.) We tried three different types of sushi last time I was there: the California roll, the shrimp tempora and the "Crunch Munch." All were really good - not the best sushi I've ever had but delicious and fresh. We also got the Negi Maki or green onion and cream cheese wrapped with thinly sliced beef, prepared with teriyaki sauce. I wanted to love this one more. It was five peices and they were in no way thinly sliced - it was really hard to chew it and swallow in one bite and they were too sauced with teriyaki. Ah well, the sushi more than made up for it. On Tuesday, they also have half-price sushi. Can't be beat. This is a spot worth checking out. Downtown and craving sushi (especially at night?) Here's your go-to.

Ok, the name is a little cheesy, but at least it gets to the point. Yes, come here for the sushi if you're in a raw fish type of mood, but don't overlook it if you're just in a bento-box/please-put-something-delicious-on-a-plate-in-a-stylish-way/Asian-chic-adventure type of mood. What I'm trying to say is that they have more than just sushi. It won't break the bank and it's just acculturated enough that you won't scare off your less-adventurous meal goers. I enjoy sitting at the counter where you can watch all the gorgeous sushi plates be made. Be nice to the chefs because they all seem to have a story to tell. We were so well taken care of last time, it was like a comedy; every other minute one of the staff was checking on us!

I will have to say that Mr. Sushi, despite the generic name of the place, is pretty good food. Usually, when I go to this restaurant, I can't pass up the sushi, but I have even tried some other items on the dinner menu, and they don't disappoint! For true sushi lovers, stay away from ones with crab in them. It's fake and just not worth it. Also, don't forget to try the STR in the appetizer section! It's delicious!!!

Stopped for lunch Monday around 1:00. Service was slow and unpleasant. It was a lot of work getting our server to smile. The squid salad, miso soup and ginger salad were good. The size of the sashimi and shrimp tempura bento box was generous. There were 4 of us and we def over ordered. I wish the server would have let us know how much food we were ordering. $50 per couple for lunch. Overall the sushi was good and the potions were large but the service wasn't impressive. Tip-order less than you think. If you're hungry afterwards order another roll but that's not likely.

I have never yelped in my life and I love this place so much, it inspired me to give it a shout out :). My boyfriend and I live in downtown Cincinnati and stumbled upon this place by accident. I am quite the sushi snob and Mr Sushi absolutely meets my standards. They have creative appetizers, interesting rolls, skilled chefs and staff, and most importantly, they offer a very personalized and unique experience. By our second time in, they knew us like a 'regular' and it's been that way ever since. They take care of us to the highest extent, offer a terrific eating experience, and we will forever be regulars.

This place has pretty good sushi. I came here for lunch, but we didn't order off the lunch special menus since nothing caught our eye. The sushi here are huge! I split 3 rolls with my boyfriend, and we ended up only eating 2. We had to take the last roll home. Price wise, I think each roll goes for around $10, not too bad. I've had better sushi, but if you're in the downtown area looking for some quick sushi, this place isn't too bad.

Sushi for me usually consisted of a few take out containers from Kroger. I know, what the heck was I thinking? My first real sushi experience came when my boyfriend bought a coupon from restraurant.com for Mr. Sushi. It was four bucks. So we thought hey something different to do. Now it's one of my go-to weeknight dinner spots. The atmosphere is very chic. Sleek bar, modern décor, recess lighting. They even have a cute little outdoor patio. Now I can't speak for the entrees, but the sushi rolls are absolutely divine. Huge chunks of tuna, crab or whatever you prefer. All of it made fresh right in the front of the house blowing those old, stale, boxed containers to smithereens! The chef even surprised us with a complementary sampler because I was unsure of what I liked and what I didn't like. I am all about hospitality and this was above and beyond what I expected when I sat down to eat there. The staff was amazing as well. I went to order a glass of wine and our waitress suggested a wine that went well with what we ordered. Not a wine I would have normally chosen, but I trusted her and when the sushi came I was sure glad I did! The pairing was spot on! Now whenever we go there I always order that wine with dinner. The prices are actually below what I thought they would be. In fact, I shouldn't say this, but if they were more expensive, I would still probably still pay for it because the rolls are that good! So the moral of the story is: sell me a 4 dollar coupon for 25 bucks worth of food, and if your food is good, I will be back twice a week with friends! Hooray for Mr. Sushi!

I was torn and wanted to give maybe a 3.5 star rating. Granted we had an enormous group of 30 or so. They didn't seem too thrilled to accommodate us. Perhaps I don't blame them. The food did come out very fast for a sushi place. In a way that was great, though, I suppose at the same time, that concerns me. ;) The house sake was not good. Not at all. It was harsh and had a bad flavor. It also came out lukewarm. They have a number of vegetarian options including a vegetable roll combo. Pricing is reasonable. Atmosphere is fine, though nothing to write home about. I think my expectation of sushi is perhaps a bit high, having eaten at so many great places on the coasts. Still, for Cincinnati, this place is pretty good.

My colleague and I decided to venture downtown and were looking for a nice Sushi restaurant, we were not disappointed. We were somewhat skeptical about a restaurant offering half-price specials from 4pm - ??, but reading a lot of the positive reviews gave it a try. We arrived kind of early and they had a few clients but as the evening progressed more customers began to flow into this nice downtown location. We bypassed an appetizer and jumped into their extensive selection of items. I chose the Spicy Lobster roll and the Spider roll, both were extremely flavorful and there was plenty to share (If I had the inclination to), my colleague chose several items off their Nigiri selection and a nice roll which he found to be quite tasty and fresh. Our waitress 'Abby' was quite helpful with our selection and explained in detail the menu and made recommendations on a few items, a couple I'll follow on my next visit. Overall our experience at Mr Sushi was memorable, and I will definitely return while here in Cincinnati.

Located just around the street from The Aronoff, Mr. Sushi is a trendy sit down Asian restaurant specializing in sushi. While they do offer a few Thai options as well as a full bar, sushi plates are the way to go. My friend and I mulled over the menu for a while. We wanted to try something new, something we couldn't get at any sushi restaurant... after all, the place was named "Mr. Sushi." Fortunately, the menu had some interesting options to tempt our palate. We saw a lot of combinations featuring scallops. Not our favorite shellfish, we crinkled our noses and kept looking. The spicy crab caught our eye, and of course, anything salmon is always good. We decided to pick two of the specialty rolls from the back of the menu, and two from the front, which featured basic rolls. - Citrus Salmon Roll: smoked salmon topped with lemon zest - Crunch n' Munch Roll: spicy crab, shrimp, tempura flakes, and spicy mayo - Japanese Bagel Roll: salmon, cream cheese, cucumber - Shrimp Tempura: tempura coated shrimp with cream cheese and sweet soy sauce Everything was delicious. Our favorite was the Crunch n' Munch, which delivered the right amount of spice with savory shredded crab. If you're looking for a unique flavor, go with the Citrus Salmon, which had undertones of lemon in every bite. A perfect compliment to the fish. Our basic rolls were good too, but if you're looking for recommendations, go with Crunch n' Munch and Citrus Salmon. For drinks, get the Mango Fizz: mango juice, vodka and Sprite. Comes in a pint glass and is a refreshing adult beverage that goes great with sushi. Also, since we spent over $15.00 per person on sushi, we received complimentary miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. Pretty standard, although my miso soup was lacking in tofu and was mainly broth. For free, can't complain, but I have had better elsewhere. Service was a bit on the slow side. The restaurant was almost empty around dinnertime and our server spent the down time watching sports on TV. We had to flag him down for our check so we could make it to the play on time. All-in-all, if you're looking for fancy sushi Downtown, Mr. Sushi gets the job done. Price per person: $20.00

Yum! This might be the most pleasant sushi experience that I've had in Cincinnati so far. Big generous rolls and not terribly expensive. The Red River roll, Bengal roll and the Green River roll were particularly tasty. One of our group also ordered the bi bim bap, which was also good. I was excited to see some Korean food offerings and though they were a little more on the pricey side, not too expensive and definitely worth a try. The service was great and the staff was really friendly. In sum, good stuff, with an added bonus of late night sushi options!

Mr. Sushi's sushi is the best I've had yet in Cincinnati. The pieces are cut large with a generous portion of rice to go with them, and the prices are comparable with other sushi joints in the area. I also got the bulgogi, a meal I've loved in many restaurants; unfortunately, I wasn't overly impressed with it. It wasn't bad, but it definitely wasn't great. Also, the fiancee and I went when we were running late to get to a show, but the waitress was efficient, helpful, and got us in, fed, and on our way with a little time to spare ... and somehow we didn't feel rushed. I'll definitely go back for more sushi.

Call me what the F you want Mr. As long as you put mr. in front - Silkk The Shocker Located on what is called Restaurant Row in Downtown Cincinnati across from what some people would call the hottest spot in the city, IGBY's, Mr. Sushi delivers quality sushi, etc. It is a great spot to meet up with the team to belly up before a night of dancing and drinking (not necessarily in that order). My friend who was hesistant to dine there as he does not eat Sushi, and would take a knife through the hand before devouring raw fish found something on the menu that he loves and actually recommends that we dine there!

I am glad I decided to visit this place, despite the reviews.. I loved every minute here.. So we walked in, greeted by an american guy ( I am havign doubts now - I need Japanse people to cook at Sushi places please! ).. I know it sounds very weird, but then my mind is weird sometimes! Anyway.. I had some of the best sushi I ever ate! We just sat at the chefs table and let him feed us! Some yummy appetizers that I can't really identify, the hamachi sashimi that made me want to hug the chef, it was so yum! Follows by some great rolls- all different ones.. Totally recommend this place.. Whatever toll you get, expect it to be awesome! :) Great selection of Japanese beers, nice service and great food.. I would go back! :)

good stuff. HUGE portions. BEWARE. sushi for 2 should be renamed, "sushi for the u.s. army." WAY huge. WAY tasty too, but too much. happy hour is the tops. cheaper than most anywhere i know of. i'll go back. but next time i am ordering one piece at a time:).

It wasn't terrible but I didn't think it was that great either. Maybe I'll have to re-review when I actually try the sushi, but I found the chicken fried rice to be on the bland side. Food did come out fast for during the lunch rush. I always hate having to ask for a fork when they only provide chopsticks, but there's a white girl trapped underneath my Asian facade and I don't know how to eat rice or salad any other way...

I work a block from this restaurant so I've stopped in more than a few times. They have a great selection of special sushi rolls and at decent prices. The last time I went in, I sat at the sushi bar and the chef ended up making me a special roll for free. The service has always been good, and it has always satisfied my sushi cravings. Give it a try!

Mr. Sushi is a great looking sit down restaurant for such a cheap name. I went here after work for a birthday party and we were the only people there on a Sunday night. Our service was wonderful and our server didn't blink at our party of 17, no reservation. He was totally cool and joked around with us. He even did separate checks, no fuss. The place is a large room, really nicely decorated and cozy (think warm colors and no glaring lights, not slouchy coffeehouse vibe). I would definitely take a date here. The sushi is pretty tasty and if you spend more than $15 you get soup and a small salad. I'm a go with the flow kind of sushi eater so I just put checks by several rolls not knowing exactly what they'd be like. All four good choices. I would like to go back and try more of their menu, maybe on their happy hour; which is for both apps and booze.

The name "Mr. Sushi" may not evoke "authentic", but I must say I was very pleased when I walked in the door and was greeted with a lovely, muted atmosphere, and more importantly, some very decent sushi. I am almost exclusively a sashimi-eater, and I was not disappointed! The fish was fresh and nicely presented. It was a Sunday, which in itself was a bonus that the establishment was actually open, so the staff may have been a bit short-staffed; no one asked me once how everything was, and I did need to flag my waiter to get another glass of wine, but overall, everyone was pretty friendly. The prices were average, but the food was worth what it cost. I will definitely come back next time I'm in town.

I am a sushi snob, I'll admit it. I'm not easily impressed. But I have to say, Mr. Sushi delivered. We got sushi to go, because we wanted a nice night in after a long day. So I can't comment on dining in...however I will say that it was a great choice! The shrimp tempura rolls were delicious and fresh, as well as the calamari tempura. Each meal comes with a small side salad and soup. By the time we finished, I was stuffed. They didn't give us chopsticks but luckily for us, I carry prepackaged chopsticks in my purse (don't ask).. The location is obviously great. Right downtown, so a short walk for us.

Mr. Sushi seems to be one of the few places for less "industrialized" (I'm looking at you, Fusian) places for Asian cuisine. I stopped by for takeout, ordered two rolls (Futo Maki and Salmon), spectated the chefs making my sushi for a brief 5-10 minutes, and walked back with some decent sushi. The order came with a side of miso soup, some ho-hum iceberg lettuce salad, and...nine packets of soy sauce!!! (to bathe the sushi in???). In my opinion, the best part about the place is the plum/peach/lychee-flavored candy featured at the counter. I enjoyed one while waiting for my meal and could not resist taking a few for the road. As someone with an advanced degree in candy informatics and an undergrad background in sweet tooth studies, I definitely recommend it. TL;DR: Fast service, decent sushi, fruity candy.

I know the difference between good and great sushi. This place is great! Extremely fresh fish, good presentation, and the sushi chefs are a hoot. My favorite sushi in the Cinci area. You need to try this place.

Pretty late on a weekday evening, my husband and I were looking for a bite to eat and decided to try Mr. Sushi - it was still open at 8pm so that's a plus to start with! Our waitress was very friendly, and when I mixed up sashimi and sushi (yeah, I know...) and wanted to change my order a few minutes after I made it, that wasn't a problem at all! In the end I got the sushi platter, only 15$ and it comes with a soup and a salad. I don't think I have a very good sushi experience. Compared to the place I always went to in Paris, the sushi here was amazing! Both the california roll and the sushi itself tasted very fresh and each different type of fish had their own specific flavor. I'm pretty sure this is one of the best sushi places I've been to. No 5 stars though because I wasn't convinced of the coziness of the place. Although the service was friendly, quick and flexible and the food amazing, I missed the little extra that would make me come back all the time.

As far as sushi palates go, I may not have an expert one, but I know what I like. Mr. Sushi fits the bill. I've had a number of their rolls and have not been disappointed in presentation or taste. I always start snacking on the edamame. The perfect complement to their rolls is the miso soup and their house salad which has amazing dressing on it, that I've never been able to recreate but always enjoy. They have My favorite item is the Spicy Roll combo which consists of spicy California roll, spicy shrimp roll and spicy tuna roll. I'm also a fan of their pad thai which, although not spicy, has good flavor and abundance of whatever you choose- chicken, shrimp or beef. If you go for lunch, try one of the bento boxes. It's a lot of food for a reasonable price and has a little bit of everything. Don't plan on doing a lot of work afterward, though, because you're more likely to just want to take a nap after such filling a meal. The service was good during lunch; didn't have to hunt someone down for the check. During dinner, the service was good, as well, even with our more specific orderers. The atmosphere was very contemporary and the space large enough so when they have a good crowd, you don't feel packed in. With their extensive selection of rolls at a reasonable price, Mr. Sushi is a must.

I have had better sushi at grocery marts I have eaten sushi in numerous North American cities nearer and further from salt water; consequently, perhaps my standards are a little higher than other customers who reviewed this restaurant. Undercooked rice, tasteless fish, and lackadaisical service. I will opt for fish sticks as opposed to Mr Sushi next time. Did I rate this as 2 stars? Really?

I don't know why all these haters are bringing down Mr. Sushi. I had a terrific experience! I got there and I was greeted with tea and a diet coke. I ordered some of my favorites: dragon roll, California roll, Philly roll, spicy shrimp roll. They were all excellent and I even got a sweet monster roll that was very delicious. My drinks were never empty, the staff was super friendly, and the food was excellent.... what more do you want? Rock on Mr. Sushi!

This isn't as much a review as it is a question. The store front and the front door is clearly located on 6th street. Why does it have a Walnut Street address? It's not even close to Walnut street. This is very confusing when recommending to out of town business guests.

This review is for a weekday lunch at Mr. Sushi, but to note, if you're looking for a late night option downtown, they also offer half price sushi from 10:30pm-2:30am. The sushi menu is fairly extensive, with all the old familiar stand-bys (does anyone other than a first-timer actually order a California roll?) and at least one Cincinnati-specific offering (the Bengals roll). I went with a salmon roll and Green River roll (eel, avocado, cucumber) after splitting some edamame to start. They give you a free salad to start if you order a lunch special or sushi over $10, but it's pretty much a throwaway--a couple of pieces of iceberg lettuce with some peanutty dressing drizzled over top. The pacing and presentation were a bit off. The salad took a few minutes, but and then the edamame came a while later, almost immediately followed by the sushi. Also, despite having clearly indicated our separate roll orders on 2 separate pieces of paper, they brought 3 out on 1 plate and a 4th on a separate plate that they placed in the middle, without providing individual plates. Other than that, service was adequate (although our server did ask us twice if we were paying individually--we were--and then brought us 1 check anyway). As for the sushi itself--the salmon roll was very skimpy on the salmon, so disappointing. The Green River roll was pretty good, but I've definitely had better prepared/more flavorful eel. I wouldn't get either of them again most likely. With half an order of edamame, water to drink, and 2 of the cheaper rolls, lunch was still $15, so it's not the least inexpensive lunch option, but could be an occasional welcome change to the usual sandwich every now and then. I'll probably go back, but may try a hot option instead (Udon Noodles, Bibimbab, etc.).

Mr. Sushi is my go-to past 9 pm. They're open till 11 on weeknights and offer carry-out, and the food isn't terribly expensive; an entree is usually $12-$15 for a decent sized portion - enough for leftovers. Despite the fact that Mr. Sushi is technically a Japanese restaurant, they have a few Korean dishes like bibimbap, dolsot (hot stone) bibimbap, bulgogi, and Korean pancakes. It's hard for me to get anything but the bibimbap since there aren't many nearby options for Korean food (Sung Korean Bistro downtown, Bento in Clifton and Riverside Korean in Covington). The bibimbap is decent though the egg is usually completely fried and hard by the time the food comes out, and half the time it's only lukewarm. If you're looking for a hearty appetizer, my boyfriend and I swear by the STR. For $4, you get what essentially looks like a giant scoop of crispy rice topped with spicy tuna, avocado, spicy sauce and eel sauce. Nom nom nom.

My family and I went to Mr. Sushi last year around this time. Yeah, I know I'm late, but I have to give credit where credit is due! The Sushi was awesome! We ordered off the menu, but also a Chef Special made right on the spot - didn't even have a name. It was some of the best sushi I'd had in a VERY long time. We traveled 30 miles to get there at midnight because we were hungry, craving sushi, and Mr. Sushi came highly recommended by another family member. Not only did Mr. Sushi over deliver - I'd go again at midnight. Great Service!

Not a lot to say other than great food accompanied by reasonable prices and great service. I enjoy sashimi, so unfortunately I don't have any comments for their cooked stuff, but when it comes to the raw cuisine they hit the nail on the head with great quality and great taste! To make the food even better the service was top notch. A bonus, if you sit at the sushi bar and are friendly with the chef he might make a few surprises for you! So, go, enjoy yourself, don't forget your wallet, and leave happy.

Mr. Sushi is one of my favorite downtown lunch spots. I will start out by saying I'm no sushi connoisseur... unless it's terrible, I don't really notice whether sushi is fabulous or not. I just know what I like and I'm not afraid to tell people! A few of my colleagues and I had a regularly scheduled meeting on our Outlook calendars so we could make it to Mr. Sushi. If you're going for lunch during the week you definitely need to get there by 11:45 or go after 12:30 if you don't want to wait with your group. Even during that time the service is good, it's just that it's busy... especially on a Friday. I will also admit that I'm not super adventurous on their menu. Once I find something I like I tend to make it my staple so I can't comment on their full menu. In this case, I get the deluxe sushi lunch special. It comes with a spicy tuna roll (my fave!) and a chef's choice of various sushi selections. It's $13 and also comes with a house salad so that seems like a pretty good deal to me. The atmosphere of the restaurant is clean and modern which I like. I was so happy that a sushi place finally moved in downtown (although now we also have Soho this was the first one!)

Good stuff here! Four of us came in early (5pm) and had the place to ourselves. Friendly staff, cold beer, quick service. Fresh fish, and the rolls were very creative and colorful, not to mention tasty! We all ordered too much (surprise!) and rolled moaning out of there after paying a reasonable check.

I've eaten better sushi from Kroger's. The portions are huge. Way more than what the two of us could comfortably eat, and it's not like you can ask for a doggy bag to take the rest home. Not that I'd want to anyway. The sashimi is sub-par, and tastes like it was freshly thawed in a microwave. Just a plain waste of money.

I went here for lunch during the work week. I expected for their to be a wait but we were greeted by a very friendly host and seated right away. The menu was wonderful! So many fabulous lunch options. Sushi was, of course expected, at a place called Mr. Sushi, but they also had amazing lunch bento boxes, rice bowls and variety plates- which I opted for. Each of the lunch items came with a delicious ginger salad and the iced tea was so good. The wait staff was very attentive and offered some suggestions. Which, with a menu this long was much appreciated. The prices are reasonable. You're looking at about $9-$15 for a bento box and about the same for the other options. The gentleman next to me had ordered about 6 sushi rolls and their plate looked beautiful! I am definitely going back for more soon.

Although it's called Mr. Sushi, I decided to give their Korean food a try...and it didn't live up to my standard. However, I am willing to give this place a try next time by ordering their sushi instead. Overall, the experience was good because they have very good service. Starting with my phone call all the way to getting the food out of door was a pleasant experience. They're very friendly and helpful. While waiting for the food, the waitor constantly updated me on my food status. Also, while waiting for my food, I checked out the decor of the restaurant. It gives a modern and pleasant feel overall and I felt at ease while waiting for the food because it was also quiet. Don't get me wrong, it's not like hush hush quiet, but more like peaceful. Back to the food review...I will not order anymore asian meals from this place other than trying the sushi. The Bul Ko Gi (as they spelled it) was not very tender and meat was sliced really thick, which made it hard to chew. Any flavorful bulgogi that I've had in the past are usually thinly sliced meat. The best part of the meal was actually the side salad and the miso soup that came with it. Anyways, I'll be back.....but just for the sushi this time. Please don't disappoint me again.

I loved the sushi at Mr. Sushi; it was probably the best I've had since being in Hong Kong. It was fresh, plentiful, and well priced. My sister and I also split a couple appetizers and a stone bowl. The edamame was fine, but we should have just stuck to sushi. Since they didn't really have a specific kind of Asian food, it was only okay. Plus, it's kind of hard to mess up rice and veggies. The atmosphere is simple, yet elegant, and the service could use a little more practice, but overall they weren't too bad. Although, they do have mochi (sp? it's a gelatinous kind of rice cake) filled with ice cream. Mango is the best. I will definitely be going back.

Best Feature: DELICIOUS sushi! Worst Feature: Be careful for lunch hours! (packed, generally a wait) I had the fortune to visit here today and was very excited, as I'm a huge sushi fan and love to try new sushi restaurants around the city. We came in around 12:15 p.m. on a Wednesday, which apparently is a big lunchtime hour for downtown-ers. The place had a bit of a wait; for two people we waited about 15 minutes (despite the hostess' assurance we'd wait but a few minutes). I didn't mind it, but we saw a few angry patrons take off to find somewhere else that had quicker seating. We were seated at the bar, and I was delighted to see they had lunch specials! They have a variety of dishes, including lo mein as well as other noodle/rice based dishes. We went for the sushi, and they did not disappoint in their selection. My friend and I had our usual sushi favorites - he had the futo maki roll and I had the dragon roll (eel, avacado, etc.). I was impressed with the ingredients as they even specify what goes on the inside and outside of your roll. The lunch prices for sushi are only about a dollar or two less than the dinner prices. They give a house salad for free for any lunch sushi order that is $9.99 or above. My friend ordered one for $9 but the waitress was nice and gave him one anyways despite the dollar difference. I really appreciated that they let you know how many pieces of sushi are in the sushi rolls before you order them. The sizes of the pieces are not bad either! They are decently sized and the flavors are ridiculously amazing! My sushi roll was absolutely delectable and my friend enjoyed his as well. Our service was also phenomenal - the hostess and servers were totally swamped, but despite this they kept a friendly attitude under pressure. Our waitress was incredibly kind as well and always stayed on top of our meal. For being a downtown restaurant, I was definitely pleased the prices weren't too terribly high. I've been to sushi restaurants with lower prices and sushi that tastes just as amazing (with less wait time), so I docked it one star for the wait and the price but otherwise I can't complain! Definitely visit here for sushi if you're in the downtown Cincinnati area. I'll be back for sure and hopefully during a less crowded time to try some other dishes and update my review.

The food at Mr Sushi is decent, but nothing spectacular. The sushi is good, but the other various menu items are best left unexplored. The prices are about 20% higher than you would expect for the same level of quality, service, and delivery. As many others have reported, they are quite gratuity-happy - 18% auto on an party over 5. Reading other reviews, I see they put this on at least one party of 3 and anyone eating during half-price sushi night. In short, check your bill - they've likely stiffed you with an 18% markup. In my opinion, this is a classless move and really shows what they think about their clientele. There are a lot of sushi choices in Cincinnati, and this place doesn't even break the top ten, and it does it at bleeding edge prices. There are many better, cheaper restaurants within 2 blocks of Mr Sushi. My advice is to keep on walking.

Mr. Sushi exemplifies a 5 star experience with tasty, well made, giving portions of Sushi along with friendly and speedy service. Delicious items such as the hot stone bowl Bibimbab and the Bento Box bring additional flair to the menu for those who had something other than sushi in mind. This stylish location found on 6th street, melds a feeling of classy with swiftness. Outside of the lunch hours you will not find the menu items to be cheap but you will feel that the value of your money is properly reflected in what will be placed in front of you. Even the self proclaimed stubborn sushi sobs will be forced to give praise to the high quality taste of the salmon and red fire roll. If you're looking for a sushi or Chinese restaurant to fall in love with then you need not look anywhere other than Mr. Sushi.

Run of the mill sushi, nothing special. Fish slices on the nigiri are a bit thin, but thats the norm for a lot of sushi restaurants. Suspect the turnover is quite low given how empty I see the place.

Mr Sushi is just about the only thing I look forward to when traveling to Cincinnati for work. I love sushi and was surprised to find such a high caliper place here. I typically get futo maki because it's big enough on its own to be more than enough for lunch. Lots of creative Americanized maki too.

Welcome to 1998, downtown Cincinnati, you finally have a couple of decent sushi restaurants. I gave Mr. Sushi a try on a Thursday night. Dinner choices had been pared down to either Dancing Wasabi in Mt. Lookout or Mr. Sushi. The prospect of a crowd, cramped dining space, and parking on Mt. Lookout square made the choice easier. Mr. Sushi it was. The space was clean and modern. As we were being seated, I thought how nice it would be if my sister and I sat by the window so we could watch the foot traffic on the street. Somehow reading my mind, our host said, "How about a table by the window for a little people watching?" We split a huge bottle of beer and a few rolls of sushi. Since we each ordered over $15 of food, a salad and miso soup were brought to us on the house. The waitstaff was attentive but didn't hover. The rolls were very good. We ordered two bigger rolls and two simpler rolls, and surprisingly, our favorite was the plain old Salmon roll. No tempura flakes, no spicy mayo, just fresh tasting fish and good rice. The restaurant was maybe a quarter full at prime dinner time. My only complaint? It felt a tad bit overpriced. Half price night at Dancing Wasabi... which seems to be every night recently... is definitely the better bargain. But to get away from the crowd and have a number of walkable post-dinner entertainment options downtown, I'll pay a little bit more for Mr. Sushi.

Went there last night with friends-of-friends. We had a large group, and I have to say that we were seated and served very quickly, due in part, I'm sure, to the fact that they just weren't that busy, even around 7:30/8 on a Saturday night. Our waitress was quick and efficient all night, but I had a hard time grabbing her for anything besides ordering (to be fair, I am not very loud). I ordered a tempura udon and two pieces of salmon sashimi. The udon was pretty good; it's difficult to mess that part up. The tempura could have been better; each piece was somewhat soggier and greasier than I was used to - I really like how tempura is fried but usually still very light. The vegetables weren't crunchy enough (no panko breadcrumbs?), while the shrimp was overcooked. The salmon sashimi was average; nothing to write home about. The problem that I had that still bothers me a bit now, though, is that one of my pieces had a piece of bone in it. I should have brought this to the attention of my waitress right then, but it didn't seem as big of a deal then. :-/ Either way, that should just not happen with sashimi. Mr. Sushi was... a so-so place to go for dinner on a Saturday night, I suppose. I don't know that I'd go again, especially since there are so many half-price sushi places around and while Mr. Sushi isn't expensive, per se, it's more expensive than say Ichiban or Dancing Wasabi, and there's nothing to really recommend Mr. Sushi over the other places...

This place is so bland. In all respects. Don't come here expecting a tasty meal. The menu looks good, but no one at my table of six actually liked their meals. Bottom Line: I will not come back.

I'm apparently in a very positive mood- and in a 4-star kick right now. It's easy to give this sushi 'hut' such a great review because it deserves it. Here's my top favorite lists for sushi rolls: - Caterpillar Roll - And, why am I even making a list. Just select all the Chef Specials, and you won't be disappointed. Other dishes to try: - Bimbimbap - Pad Thai - Tempura Ice Cream **** (There is a reason why I highlight this. It's AMAZING!)

This is a great place to grab dinner downtown. Our kids actually love sushi and this is a family friendly place. We found a coupon on restaurants.com for $10 for $25 of food. Pretty great deal. On our most recent visit we ordered a meal that included 3 sushi rolls, soup and salad for $15. Not bad. On occasion we are hungry for sushi and other goodies. Try the lo mein with everything. It is full of veggies, pork, beef, shrimp and chicken. Very tasty.

Nom nom nom. Hello fishees, goodbye fishees. Alright, yes, sushi has kind had its 15 minutes of fame here in Cincinnati. Last year we were all about the #sushirampage but that seems to have died off. Don't let the good people at Mr. Sushi know that! I was suitably impressed by Mr. Sushi. I went on a date and got a big platter for two and it did not disappoint. I didn't even have the usual indigestion I usually get after eating sushi. The rolls and sashimi themselves were excellent, and the house salad and soup passed the test, too. One of the things that impressed me most was the hostess. They were fairly busy when we arrived, and she ended up being our server too. She was quick on the ball and had some great suggestions. She also chatted with us a bit and was really fun to talk to. The restaurant is a little pricey, but I think their quality and service more than make up for the price. They were fast with getting our meal out too. I would highly recommend.

Good food, a little spicier than I like it but then again it did say spicy. But great service the lady was very attentive but not pushy or annoying. Fairly priced and I would definitely go back.

I tried Mr. Sushi for the first time this afternoon, and I found it excellent late lunch fare. I had the "green river" roll (eel, cucumber, avocado) and miso soup. The soup was good. The roll was excellent. It was clearly fresh, and the eel was very tender, fresh, and not chewy. The service was also fast, and my waitress kept my drink full. The price was relatively reasonable too, as far as Japanese food goes. Will definitely return and I recommend it.

this place has some good sushi. it was actually very fresh i didn't seem to think so since we were in cincinnati and being from the bay area. (San Francisco) i've had my fair share of sushi. and this was very comparable. The service was alright not too bad. The price was on the higher side than im used to but that could be because of the freshness of the fish so far away from the ocean which it was still worth it.

I have only been to Mr. Sushi once, but had an excellent experience. Great service and my server was very helpful with the menu. Even though this wasn't the best sushi I've ever had, the restaurant gets extra points for creating a custom roll for me when one I wanted wasn't on the menu. And who can beat a bowl of miso included with every meal? Awesome!

Mr Sushi has some of the best sushi in the Fullerton area. They offer good service and a very consistent product.

Best sushi I've had in Cincinnati by far... not the best I've ever had but very good. Spider maki was great, spicy tuna roll was great, yellow tail sushimi was great, fatty tuna was expensive and did not taste fresh, eel sushumi was not a good consistency on the palet. I left 1/2 the fatty tuna and 2 of 4 eel... very full!

My husband and I have high standards for sushi--this place passed. It was a little more money than we'd want to spend, but it was pretty good. By the way, I got a bento box, which was nice and filling for lunch--I was very surprised at how filling it was, actually. We'll be back!

The location is perfect for dinner before a night out downtown, and the food was great. Prices were reasonable, and the atmosphere is really fun. The outside of the restaurant does not do the inside justice. From just driving by, I thought it was a pick-up-and-go sort of Sushi restaurant (like Maki in Clifton). But inside, it's a super swank, upscale-looking (but not in price) restaurant. I had the ginger salad, which I HAVE to try at every sushi restaurant I go to, and the dressing was like HEAVEN. Loved it. For sushi, we had the firecracker roll, which I highly recommend. Yum. Then I had the chicken fried rice. It was really, really good. I asked for a side of the ginger dressing to drizzle over the rice, and it really put it over the top. I would definitely recommend this spot for a fun dinner downtown, especially because there is no other nice sushi restaurant in the area. It was surprisingly slow, and our server mentioned that they are open until 3 on Fridays and Saturdays. Obviously trying to appeal to the late night crowd, and with a full (and large) bar, it would be a cool place to hang out for a low key weekend night anyway. If only there were more people there. Maybe it will just take some time to catch on.

Love this place. best sushi in Downtown. Have to get there either for an early or late lunch, that place gets sssuuuuuuuupper busy around noon.

The portions are huge. I love the Spicy Tuna here. The house special hand roll is $2 of sheer bliss. They have happy hour sushi and appetizer discounts, so that's a plus. I've never had any sushi here that made me wonder how fresh it was. I also love their bento box lunches. It can get busy at lunch, so you might want to avoid peak times.

Went to Mr. Sushi on Saturday night to start off our Mardi Gras celebration. Wait staff was very friendly. Restaruant was not crowded. Wait time for our order was spot on. Sushi was dee-lish! Highly recommend Mr. Sushi!

Im no sushi expert, but I know what tastes good, and Mr. Sushi is really good. Positives: Good, fresh tasting fish, nice atmosphere (though a little too dressed up, imo) super friendly staff, takeout anytime-even sunday night, open till 3am on weekends, menu that makes me want to go back. Besides sushi, they have a variety of asian dishes like yakisoba, dolsotbimbab and pad thai. So a cornicopia of pan-asian flavors to please all people with a taste for that specific rim. Really pumped for another good place to thrive downtown. Keep em coming.

Today wasn't the day for Sushi. I've had some pretty good sushi here in the past, but, today is was mediocre. The only reason I rated as high as I did is because of the better experiences I've had here, and this is my first time reviewing it. This time around, I had a bento box, with chef's choice of four different pieces of sushi along with udon noodles, a tiny salad, and fried shrimp and vegetables (don't dare ask for a substitution, the attitude was almost like that of the soup nazi from Seinfeld). The service was slow and not very attentive (it was during lunch hour). The sushi while looking nice, didn't have the taste and texture of high quality sushi. As I said, I've had good sushi here before, so I will give them another shot to redeem themselves.

Second time eating here. First time was a much better experience. Sushi tasted fishy and not very fresh. Good service, food lacked.

I have visited Mr. Sushi twice both times it was around 8 pm. There was plenty of seating capacity. There were many at the bar watching their favorite sports. The beer selection was respectable. The sake was easy on the wallet. The rolls and sushi were OK, though the cuts of fish were a bit thinner than I am accustomed to. Both times, my dining partner chose a non-sushi entree. The first was a hot iron bowl filled with rice and stir fry goodies. The opinion was that it was OK, but the burnt rice which lined the bowl was just too crunchy to consume. The second was phad Thai. I sampled it as I am quite a fan of this dish. I couldn't even identify this dish as phad Thai. There was no peanut flavor. Overall, the sushi is OK, but I would advise you to avoid the non-sushi selections based on my experience.

Great restaurant, good prices. My only concern is the name. I heard many people say they were hesitant about going because they did not like Sushi, however they have so much more. They have Japanese, Chinese, Korean dishes (the menu is a little overwhelming). I have been with a vegetarian and they found plenty to eat. But there sushi is very good too. I had my George Clooney spotting here during the Ides of March filming, he was sitting at the sushi bar. On weekends they are open late (at least 2:30am).

Half price Sushi! Is such a Cincy thing, so when my girlfriend came into town for the weekend this was a MUST for her. We were already down at the square so Mr Sushi for the bill. The space is huge and would be very accommodating for large parties. We were seated on a Sunday night immediately. The Rolls were priced full price--why they do this I have no idea considering the sushi is ALWAYS half off, but whatever. We ordered the tofu appetizer---fried tofu with teriyaki which came out freshly fried and drizzled with teriyaki sauce, and some beers. Despite the fact they do not have draft beer they DO have a wide variety of drink--it's not just saki bombs here! The sushi ordering process was standard, which was fine, one gripe I have is that they have descriptions of their specialty rolls but not their basic list. I get what's in the normal California and spicy tuna rolls but I felt bad I had to ask the server what the green river, hot mama and whatever entailed. I just don't like doing that since they all vary slightly. Not a major deal. The sushi came out how we expected, our server was attentive and we were in and out. If you're looking for cheap sushi and a bill to match, this'll do it. They do offer dishes like dolsot, fried rice and what not but I didn't venture that way.

We each had two rolls half price, yum. Edamame anMiso. Super huge a perfectly rolled. Delish.

Came in for lunch last month and it was OK. Got a nice sized portion of my order which was a salmon based roll. We split edamame and got drinks. It's all self serve and it was clean and run by hippie kids, no Asians. So whatever, if you are looking for Asian food or real sushi, Mr. What's His Name is probably not even close. But if you need a fast, healthy lunch near your office, this is a fast, safe bet. I think I will go back, but it's been about 6 weeks and it's not in rotation . . .

Excellent sushi, even better value at half price. Best choice when heading downtown and don't want an expensive meal. Good food and location.

The taste for fresh fish comes in the nigiri. Got a few pieces of the salmon and I wasn't disappointed in the quality and quantity (esp for half price!) Who doesn't like the half price deals?? I ordered the Philly roll (staple) and a roll with spicy tuna and topped with scallops. I'd go back for a quick fix and try their other selections.

Went there today with a friend. The server didn't know much and said he'd call someone else to explain what was inside the rolls (because their paper menu doesn't have any descriptions of rolls); waited 10 minutes for someone to come explain it. That person went inside to check what the prices for adding inari to a roll would be. That person also said they don't have sweet potato rolls (although that's what I've always had there in the past, and they've tasted pretty good). Kept waiting. No one came for another 15 minutes. Saw a party who came after us being served. We just left after we saw that. No one followed us or anything either. 25 minutes wasted! At least we got water in the beginning, I guess, so there's something good. The location in Clifton is not affiliated with this downtown location though. Go there instead of here.

One of my favorite downtown lunch spots. Service is good and since it's lunch, the food always comes out very quickly. The Bulgoki chicken and spicy pork bento boxes are so tasty and filling. I would also recommend the sashimi or chirashi lunches. Have tried the spicy tuna roll and redfire roll both of which are excellent.

Chef was very kind. Gave complimentary sample roll. They kept our H2o glasses full. Ginger salad was great. Dynamite, Bengal & Dragon rolls were amazing! IWent to the 1st place on yelp and left (like a chipotle ) you will be happy here! We had an advantage bc it was slow but it was great!

Whoa! I just ordered take out and it was 20% off (from 4pm-close, 7 days a week, 20% off take out, 50% off dine in) and it was delicious! I had the Hot Mama and the Hawaiian. We went around 10pm after a Reds game I was in and out in 5-10 minutes. There were quite a few people dining in, too. The wait staff is super speedy and helpful. I'm pretty sure the manager was helping us. Both my rolls cost about $18. They tasted super fresh and so good. Probably the best sushi I've had in a long time. I definitely recommend!

This restaurant is better than most sushi in the area. You can tell the sushi chefs put a lot of effort into the ingredients, tastes and presentation. The sushi was great. I was most surprised by the House Special Salad. It tasted amazing! Not sure what made it so great but it truly stood out. The service was standard for a sushi place. My server was polite, attentive and quick. It's a little pricey but worth the extra cost.

I have never walked out of a place so stuffed full of sashimi! And a little known fact...1/2 off sushi EVERY night! I think they normally get the working crowd during the day, hence the 1/2 off. This sushi is very good. High quality sashimi and healthy size pieces. Great chefs who even offered my a few free "try it" specials. The rolls are monstrous! A great surprise, I did not expect this in Cincinnati! Service has been slow a few times (at tables), otherwise, great.

I actually never come here for their sushi. They have a small menu for korean foods and soups that are cheaper than the actual korean restaurants here and better tasting. The spicy tofu soup and the jjambong ( a spicy seafood soup w noodles) are my go to.

I really wasn't impressed with Mr. Sushi. I had really high hopes given it was a downtown location (Weak competitors rarely survive very long). I actually went in at lunch time and he place was packed. The guys I went in with frequented the place often and were noticed immediately by the folks making the sushi, so they sent out a free roll for the table, which was a nice touch. That said, our waitress was less than good. She wasn't very pleasant, it took forever to get our drinks, and once we got them, getting a refill was challenging to say the least. She was one of the types of waitresses that you run into that you believe she believes can make it through a shift in just looks alone (I.e. I'll just cute my way through the shift). That doesn't work with me. In addition, I ordered a roll that had some tempura fried goodness inside, except instead of being good, it tasted funny because I believe the oil they fried it in must have been stale / used far too many times. Finally, I really wasn't impressed with the side salad that I ordered - the dressing (ginger) that they deploy isn't that special.

They had a grand re-opening event which was simply horrific. It was neither here nor there. $20 for all you can eat but there was nothing remotely appetizing. The fried rice looked alright, but there was some tiny pieces of poorly fried chicken that looked hardly sauced. There were some bbq ribs but there was no meat, they were completely bone. And there were a couple sushi options but with no description of what the pieces actually were and they looked like they'd been sitting around for a while. They had taken out some tables and replaced it with like half of a dance floor and a DJ. It felt like a bar mitzvah or sweet 16 gone wrong. Will NEVER go back.

Mr. Sushi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Cincinnati. I love the location downtown! The sushi menu is really impressive with some very interesting and delicious rolls on their menu. The Wild Summer roll is a particular favorite of mine; I cannot dine here without ordering it. The sashimi and nigiri is always extremely fresh and the portion sizes are excellent. The traditional orange sauce often referred to as "spicy sauce" is actually spicy and I find that is not always the case at every sushi restaurant. I often get a side of it because I love it so much. I really haven't found anything on the menu that I did not enjoy. From the miso soup and ginger salad that comes with a sushi order to the delicious vegetable tempura. I swoon over Mr. Sushi! I've been here for lunch and dinner more times than I can even begin to count. If anyone ever requests a Mr. Sushi visit, this girl will not complain! My husband has had a few entrees and said they were amazing. The lunch bento boxes are very tasty and there are several combinations to choose from. The drink menu is really great thanks to their awesome cocktails as well as a very good sake selection. If they don't have what you're looking for on the menu, they take requests. If you become a regular, the sushi chefs will begin to develop a relationship with you and may even be willing allow you to sample some of their own unique sushi concoctions. You won't be disappointed!

The sushi was really chewy and the service was terrible .... Our waitress was rushing us the whole time and clearing plates before we were finished..... Decor was stock .... No sense of culture or tradition.... Not sure why this place is so well liked!

Been there twice - once for dinner and once for a lunch. Both times were excellent. Service was very good and consistent. Food was very tasty - had spicy tuna roll, spider roll, salmon teriyaki, and chicken teriyaki (not all at once - between the two meals and with others). And they have one of my favorite beers - Kirin Light. I will be back.

We stopped in Cinci on our way back to Kentucky and we were craving some great sushi. We were not let down. Mr. Sushi is an open and bright restaurant. We sat on the patio. Sarah, our server, was superb. She was friendly, informative, and fast. The sushi was super tasty and fresh. This venue also had a very extensive beer list for being a Japanese restaurant! I had the Tempura Roll and the Alaskan Roll. The Tempura Roll was salmon, cream cheese, and asparagus. It was deep fried and topped with eel sauce. The Alaskan Roll consisted of salmon, cucumber, and avocado. I would highly recommend both. Thanks for the hospitality Mr. Sushi!

Not bad Nigiri . Salmon and Tuna was very tasty! Rolls are fairly decent with sauces. The Bento boxes look to be the best value for lunch!

I accidently ordered from this location instead of the one in McMillan, but I found out that they deliver to Short Vine from downtown. I actually prefer Cloud 9 sushi the most, but props to Mr. Sushi for delivering. My favorite roll is the Spicy Tuna here. My boyfriend and I ordered three rolls of Spicy Tuna, one roll of Philly, and a bowl of Miso soup. The delivery itself took exactly one hour, so if you want to order, do it way ahead. Surprisingly, the soup was still warm when I got it, so that's good. Initially, when I tried to call, no one answered. It seems like this place is busy until it closes. However, when I did call to check my online order went through, they confirmed, and when I called on the hour, service was still friendly. Thanks Yelp for the delivery options--you guys never fail me! tl;dr delivery takes a really long time, but this is one of the few sushi delivery places in town. Food is good (spicy tuna).

We gave this place a lot of wiggle room to get a 3 for the food. However, my dining experience felt quite rushed as the server kept asking us if we were ready to have our food boxed but otherwise did not give us much attention. The server/chef got our sushi a la carte order wrong but we didn't feel like sending it back even though some items did not qualify for the 50% discount Friday/ Saturday night special. What really ticked me off about the service was when I looked at the bill on the next day. Since when did servers add their own tip to the bill for a PARTY OF 3? (yes, I am talking about you Ms. Iris Moon). I am calling the BBB if this issue does not get resolved promptly on Monday. Since my brother-in-law and I were fighting for the bill, we did not look at the bill details. I added a 20% tip despite the bad service knowing that the bill was discounted to find out the day after that the person processing the bill already added what amounted to be a 25% (it was 18% of the original bill. We got some half price sushi at the advice of the server.). The sashimi pieces were ample and more fresh than my lowered non-big city expectations (Note: I have been to Japan on a few occassions and have eaten at high end places and at local fish market joints). The fried rice was good. They charged us for the side orders of soups and salads as an "open kitchen charge" despite stating on the menu that they are free as long as you ordered at least $14.99 per person from the a la carte menu. I think $100 post-discount of sushi split 3 ways would qualify, don't you? My advice is that if you inhale sashimi like I do, just order the boat and skip these a la carte special antics!

I've only been here once and had a mediocre dinner and even worse service. The sushi looked alright, but as far as taste goes I prefer the artistry of Maki in Clifton Heights. The seafood pancake was greasy and overcooked. I ordered sake and it came to the table without being opened. The server was inattentive. A positive however was the decor - nicely done there. I hope that my experience there was isolated or can be chalked up to the newness of the business.

I am not much of a sushi person, but have been here with friends a few times. I finally decided to write a review. I love that they have a pretty good selection of non-sushi items. The chicken fried rice is really, really good.(no veggies). The service is decent and the price is comparable to other places around town. I have tried some of the sushi my friends have ordered and it was OK, but like I said...not a big sushi fan.

  • Hsin T.

I am a huge fan of sushi and so I was very excited to try Mr. Sushi one late Saturday night. When I arrived, I was even more excited to find half price sushi after 10:30pm. I ordered 4 rolls at approximately $12/each and a green tea but when the bill arrived, my total was almost $40. Let's do the math...4x12=48/2=$24. Well, what they don't tell you is that they automatically add in 18% gratuity during half price nights. Is that even legal? When I inquired about it, the server responded with "that is standard during half price sushi". Uhm...where is that stated??? I would not have minded leaving her a big tip if the service warranted it. However, during the course of the evening, she stopped by 3 times: 1) to take my drink order, 2) dropped off the sushi, 3) dropped off the check. I have served tables in the past and I feel tipping is a reward for a job well done and it should not be an expectation! So beware of the automatic gratuity on half price sushi nights. What was even more disappointing was the food was just mediocre. All I have to say is, been there, tried it and not doing it again. I would rather pay full price for great sushi and leave 20% tip for great service. I guess I learned my lesson...you get what you pay.
