This is by far the fastest meal I've had! Everyone is complaining about the prices, but the Dim Sum is of great quality! (We had plenty of food, 8 dim sum dishes, for 2 people for $36) The chef and owner and managers walk around making sure everyone is okay with the food! That's a sign of pride if you ask me! I'm not savvy with Dim Sum menus/the chinese language. It was great to go during cart service (Sat and Sun 10am-2:30) and have the cart girls show you everything before they put it on your table and add it to your bill. I was so happy with all of our selections, but sadly I couldn't tell you the name of most of them. By the way it was the fastest meal I have ever had. We walked in and immediately got food, it was probably 20 minutes from our first bite to paying the bill since we inhaled our food. I loved it. My favorites were the rolled bean curd in beef gravy, BBQ pork buns, crystal shrimp dumplings, and fried shrimp balls. My least favorites were the shrimp and chive and the soup dumpling. My only complaint is that all of the food is not steaming hot. And if you order all your dishes at once, the ones that were once hot get cold/lukewarm.

This is one of our favorite places in town. We've been regular guests for Saturday and Sunday Dim Sum for 25 years. Dim Sum is served on the weekends from 10 AM until 2:00 PM. Our favorite Dim Sum dishes are shrimp dumplings, pork dumplings (shumai), shrimp balls, sticky rice, spring rolls, pork porridge, sesame balls and coconut pudding. Kenny, Henry and Sunny do a fantastic job!

tranditional Chinese food and Gangshi desserts. delicious! The staff is so nice that they give us addintional dessert for free! Good place for friends to hang out. The enviornment is pretty good also!

The dim sum is legit. If you go here on Sunday for brunch, you only need to order off the carts. Try something new. I'm appalled by all of the folks around us who ordered American Chinese food when there is actual Chinese food in abundance here. Everything is delicious. Try it all. And the service was awesome, too. We'll be back.

Ok. I decided to come here because of the reviews and boy were they accurate. Actually a little humble in my opinion because they should get 5 stars. I sat down and ordered the twice cooked pork and fried rice. Waitress took excellent care of me and kept my rice bowl full as so as the water which never went below half a cup. After I ate they kept bringing complimentary extremely delicious desserts. Not sure if they do that with everyone but it made me feel like a friend. The owner talks to you and explains everything. He seems very enthusiastic about keeping customers happy. And the food is to die for. Crisp fresh veggies and excellent taste. Best pot stickers I ever had. I recommend this oriental gem in Cincinnati. Don't miss it.

We have been there twice for dim sum. Very yummy and fresh! Much better than uncle yip's dim sum. The only issue is the price...more expensive. On average, expect to pay $50 for two people with tips and taxes already included. Will definitely come back though. Great service! Not too many options for vegans. Also, they need to carry Tabasco sauce!

Came on a Saturday for dim sum. It was very good. Some reviews said it was pricey, but I felt that the price was fair.

Came here for my brother's wedding reception. The space was... tight. We had a small reception of about 100. Guests were split into two big rooms. We didn't have the restaurant to ourselves (there were a few tables near the back still eating dim sum). The food was mediocre. Portions were for ten per table, but it definitely wasn't enough food. Had about eight courses ranging from fried rice to sweet and sour pork. The owner wasn't the friendliest. We had to move a lot of our own tables and he also didn't accommodate when we said we needed another table. Only note-worthy thing about this place was the interior. Very ornate and traditional wood carvings. I'm now sitting here.. waiting to pay the bill. Apparently the owner is out delivering take out. He rushed us to finished so we could leave so since he has a business to run... Do not come here for a wedding reception. Ever. Oy.

Went with a group for dim sum. It was very crowded with a mix of families and small groups. The service was fantastic- we were introduced to the owners- and then pampered for the rest of our visit! Had a huge range of dumplings, buns, cakes and treats. Everything was delicious especially the duck. It is very tricky to locate off the street- just be on the look out as you approach the address. Mike's car Wash is blocking their store front- so just go behind.

Catered in a nice assembly of morsels for lunch in celebration of Chinese New Year (Sheep/Goat). Everything was delicious and the temperature was warm to hot! We have a fair amount of vegetarians on staff and regret to say the egg rolls had pork in them. We still had rice, noodles and even fortune cookies for them to enjoy. Hopefully Grand Oriental can make them just as delicious without the pork next time. I wonder if we could get chopsticks next time, also! :)

A food still absent in Lexington is Dim-Sum. I haven't tasted these divine little delicacies in years. Yay for Grand Oriental!. Authentic, outstanding cart service Dim Sum. Attentive staff. Delicious jasmine tea. Owner came to our table to ask if we enjoyed our lunch. Easy to see why they've been in business for 26 years.

The Dim Sum here is pretty good and perhaps the best in Cincinnati but very pricey. Last time I went with my husband, I received a $90+ bill! I was like what!!! I paid half of that at Bon's and Uncle Yip....I am not sure would go back again...maybe once in a blue moon

I went in for lunch because it's walking distance from my hotel. I had the Hot & Sour Soup and the stir fried vegetables. Very good. Not amazing but good enough to get an order of soup to go. If I were to stay another day, I'd certainly try another dish. The service is fast and friendly.

this is a go-to for my wife and I with our 3 small children. We've been numerous times and have yet to be disappointed. the dim sum is fresh and fairly authentic ... the servers and owners are all very friendly and treat the kids exceptionally well (they even threw in free desert on our last visit which was a nice unexpected surprise). we typically just stick to the dim sum menu which is varied and the servers are very helpful in recommending some choice options. we have ordered off the regular menu twice and the food is some of the best in cincinnati we've had. highly recommend grand oriental!

Hands down the best Chinese food I have found in the Cincinnati area. Egg rolls are fresh, the food isn't over cooked, and the price is right. It is worth the extra 20 minutes of driving I have to do to get decent food.

I stopped in to have Dim Sum, which I had not had in several years. As soon as I walked in, the service was impeccable. Every part of the staff was on it and attentive. The food is amazing. Dumpling after dumpling was great and reminded me of Chinatown. Sticky rice was very good too. I definitely will be coming back.

I am waning in my plight to find some decent dim sum in Cincinnati. Maybe my hopes were too high for the Grand Oriental after being disappointed by Uncle Yip's and Bon Chinese. We came for a late dim sum at 1pm on a Saturday. The cart service was just too far and few in between the lull. One cart server just decided to skip our table altogether and went to all the other tables. Perhaps we went too late in the day. As for the atmosphere, it seems like a nice facility, but it was way too dark to see what was actually in the carts. I miss the old days of Pacific Moon on Montgomery Rd. Too bad they decided to move. The owner gentleman appeared to be very kind and was attentive to our needs; but I think the cart servers need better customer service training. Most of them looked so sad and miserable to be there; that actually affects the dining mood. I will probably return once more with my fingers crossed and maybe come earlier in the day. The sticky rice was decent, the dumplings were good, was disappointed in the BBQ pork bun. They don't give you any dipping sauces at all except for the bottle of soy sauce and chili oil on the table. I think for the high prices, they should try a little harder.

My wife and I stopped by Sunday night for the first time in 2 1/2 yrs, despite just living less than 1 mile away. No Dim Sum cart at this late hour, but was still able to order off of the Dim Sum menu. Turnip cake was great! Our two main dishes from the Chinese menu (you have to ask for it) were equally satisfying. We definitely will visit again, bringing family and friends. BTW...we're East Asian. Owner sent over our favorite sesame red bean balls and they were fresh and yummy!

This place has been my best dim sum restaurant in Cincinnati so far. It is pricey compared to other dim sum restaurants in the area. The roasted duck, shrimp dumpling, shrimp rice noodle and almost everything else were so good.

I come here whenever I visit Cincinnati because I can't find a better Dim Sum restaurant in Ohio! The owners are like family to me as they are so welcoming and accommodate any particular dishes not on the menu.

Went here for dim sum after church on Sunday. Growing up near Oakland Chinatown I'm a bit biased. We have come here before and have liked it. Today was no exception. Love the rolling carts. Everything we ordered tasted fresh and not oily. Other dim sum restaurants we've gone to in Cincinnati have been a bit greasy. The owner here claims that they are the only dim sum restaurant that makes everything fresh. I don't know whether that is true or not, but we will definitely be back. The waitresses all speak English well and are very pleasant. Service was excellent. Food was excellent. They are a bit pricier than other dim sum restaurants though. Thus the minus one star.

This was my first time eating at this restaurant, and I have to say that I was very impressed. I got the shrimp and cilantro dimsung, which were amazing, and the princess shrimp. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. My fried got the Orange chicken, which was again cooked to perfection. They even gave us complimentary ice cream as it was our first time. I will definitely be there next week!

Coming from San Francisco I was a bit hopeless about finding a place to get some good dim sum, but this place happened to do the trick. The prices are a bit high, but that comes with the territory I suppose. Being on a student budget I was much more used to paying about half the price for the same quality of dim sum, but there aren't any places around Cincinnati that seem to have that available... I've yet to find them at least. ha

As a dim sum enthusiast, I am torn about Grand Oriental. One the one hand, I'm just happy that there is a restaurant that serves dim sum, on the other hand, I am trying not to let that weigh too heavily on my review. I should also add that I was ravenously hungry during my recent visit, so everything seemed to taste good at the time. Anyway, the food: Decent dim sum. When I went, it was after 1 pm on a Sunday and not terribly busy. I saw many of the staple dim sum dishes: the steamed shrimp dumplings, sticky rice, etc. I was never offered some of the others that I saw on other people's tables, and I'm not sure if they were ordered off menu or not. I also think that they count most of their dishes in the "middle" dish price range where they are "small" dishes at other establishments so the bill was much more than I expected. I suppose my main gripe is the service. The beauty of dim sum is the barrage of carts and dishes that get shoved in your face. We sat down, got about three approaches, and after that, we had to ask for items because the servers abandoned their carts for the most part. We also asked for a menu when we sat down to eat and never got one. I picked up the take-out menu but am not sure if they have a Chinese menu with the real food on it or not. Decor-wise, it's a pretty standard Chinese restaurant with the oriental style chairs, large round tables with the spinner in the center (which gives me hope that there is legit Chinese food here), and the usual Asian knickknacks. That is comforting to my first generation instincts. As for the food, we will have to see. Stay tuned....

This review is for the Dim Sum. Not bad for the Cincinnati area given there are few Chinese restaurants that offer anything comparable to what would be found in Chinatown of a more cosmopolitan city. What is really a shock is how expensive this place is for Dim Sum that is a step above mediocre! We tried all the standards you expect to find at Dim Sum; shu mai, shrimp dumplings, egg tarts, shark fin, you get the idea. Nothing to write home about. Did I mention how expensive! For the four of us it was close to $100... they also charged extra for tea where most restaurants include with meal. I am having a hard time believing that Dim Sum for a lot of these restaurants are "homemade".... really? On the plus side, the staff is very nice and accommodating. I think the management had better look at what the competitors are charging and adjust their pricing accordingly since I think the local Dim Sum restaurants are ordering the dumplings from the same supplier.

Perhaps it was our timing but we went there around 6:15pm on a Monday and were the only two people in the place and found the food to be just OK and it was just a typical Chinese restaurant not the DIm Sum experience we were looking for.

Grand Oriental is my favorite place for dim sum in Cincinnati (out of two possible which, yeah, doesn't say much). But even with that qualifier, it does a decent job of keeping flavors authentic and pretty refined. It's all too easy to find bad dim sum outside of Asia- unevenly wrapped baos, dumplings that range from puny wimps to fist-sized monstrosities, doughy and flavorless egg tarts, and food suffering from freezer burn. Grand Oriental isn't that kind of place. In fact, the shrimp dumplings (an important bell-weather for dim sum, in my opinion) were rather fresh and plump. A quick tip: the quality dips a bit on the weekdays probably due to the lack of turnover and demand though this picks up a bit on the weekends, and so the food seems fresher then. But really, at least in the US, dim sum has always been a weekend food. In a similar vein, the atmosphere suffers from its lack of loud patrons typical of a true dim sum hall because the space never really fills up, which is a shame. If only this place could get more people through its doors, then this place would really come alive.

I used to frequent Grand Oriental on Christmas day with a friend of mine, back when she still lived in the area. I have not had a bad experience so far. For my wife's birthday, we went for the dim sum experience. I have never had dim sum, so it was totally new to me. As we sat there, they brought cart after cart by, with a variety of different items to choose from. I think the most unusual dish that visited (and that my wife tried) was jellyfish. Unfortunately, she got the luck of the draw and the jellyfish was rather spicy. The owner (or manager) was a total card. He's a wise guy and kept making funny cracks. When I let him know that I wanted to order from the regular lunch menu, he first brought out silverware (I'm chopstick ignorant), and then later jokingly made like he was going to take them away. A little light humor goes a long way towards making for an enjoyable experience. If you're looking for dim sum, or if you're looking for a decent meal, check this place out. It's well worth the visit.

I found this to be a popular choice for Dim Sum on Sundays. In the lobby there is an over-sized review from a local paper deeming Grand Oriental good, but not the best. I agree, mostly. OK let's just get this out of the way - I'm not too into the 'you can only get such and such good food at the such and such place' but here it is... the BBQ pork was the best I've had in Ohio. Definitely stateside and probably the best I've had outside of Hong Kong. There, I said it. It was a bright lacquered red, fatty and delicious. Other stuff was pretty good too. The BBQ pork steam bun was my second favorite, go figure. Dumplings were generously filled. Some of the sauces had a flat taste. Kinda hard to put my finger on it... but it just wasn't as flavorful and deep as I would expect.

Must try: Duck - the best (possibly only) place in Cincinnati for Chinese roast duck - very close to what you'd get in Chicago Chinatown. Also good: Tofu Fa (tofu in gingery syrup), small rice dumplings, and siu mai. Nice decor, easy to park, and offers dim sum in the little carts ala traditional dim sum places. Not bad for Cincinnati.

I may be totally biased to Grand Oriental, since I have been eating here since 1988, it may date me a tad bit, but in my defense, I was a small child. My family has become very close with the owners Ken and Henry, who also own Yummy Chinese in Camp Washington. They are the sweetest and most hard working men ever. The decor is a little outdated and not standard Chinese as Angela stated, but still beautiful to me. The walls and ceiling are covered with dark carved wood with gold highlights. It in itself is a true work of art. The carpet does need updated though. Unfortunately a few years back, Mike's Car Wash muscled it's way in front of it and blocks it's viewing from Fields Ertle Rd, and has put a little damper on their business. To clarify the menu questions, they have a standard menu in English, that has the "standard" Chinese food that most are used to. You may request a Chinese menu, written in Chinese, with English explanations underneath, that is slightly different. They do have Dim Sum on the weekends, however you may request a Dim Sum menu all week long, lucky me. If your ordering from the "standard" menu, you will get good quality, flavorful Chinese food. We always start with the Po Po Appetizer Tray; it comes on a lazy susan of sorts with a small fire pot in the middle, makes for a good show. It has an Egg Roll, Batter Deep Fried Shrimp, a BBQ Rib and Balimaki (Beef on a Stick) with hot mustard and sweet and sour sauce for condiments. There Egg Rolls are my favorite of anywhere I have ever had, I promise. The Balimaki are remarkable. It's Flank Steak that is so tender you barely have to chew it, with a slight ginger marinade. Some of my family's favorites include Chicken General, also named General Tso's other places. It has a great coating on the outside, so crunchy, even with the spicy sweet sauce that coats it. We love the Mongolian Beef, stir fried beef that melts in your mouth, with scallions on a bed of crispy cellophane noodles. I promise you either of the above are better than P.F.Chang's. Both are not as greasy and have way more flavor. My husband's favorite is Sichuan Chicken, stir fried chicken with julienned carrots, mushrooms, water chestnuts, and bamboo shoots. It's a little spicy with a hint of vinegar, balanced perfectly. My favorites are off of the Dim Sum menu, mostly ordered by Asian families and in the know families;) My all time favorite is the stuffed green peppers and stuffed eggplant. They are stuffed with shrimp, fried and covered with a thick soy type sauce with Chinese Black Bean. I had never had anything like it ever, and now I order it every time I go. The Shrimp Dumplings, Shrimp and Chives Dumplings, and even Shark Fin Dumplings are amazing, very toothsome. Love love the Steamed BBQ Pork Bun; Chinese Steamed Buns are my new fave. It's pillowy, fluffy steamed dough filled Blow your mind BBQ Pulled Pork. Ken and Henry told me that when they opened the restaurant they didn't have a starter for the Steamed Bun, because true Chinese use an ancient starter for the dough, so they went to Cleveland and got some from a Chinese restaurant there. That amazes me. I also love the Beef Stir Fry Rice Noodle, the noodles are so different to any other I've ever tried. They are semitransparent, wide, and have the best texture; it's soft and creamy, yet chewy, um. They even have good desserts, depending on what you are looking for. They always have the typical ice cream for the kids, sometimes even special flavors, like cherry cordial. The Coconut Pudding from the Dim Sum menu is good, and whatever cake they have is always good. I have loved this place for 24 years, and will love it as long as the doors are open. My family goes at least once a month, but our most special day is Christmas Day! We have been supporting Ken and Henry every Christmas for as long as I can remember. We usually have a party of at least 10, it's the best tradition ever, makes me feel like I'm in A Christmas Story! I always order the steamed flounder, it is a whole flounder, steamed with a ginger broth, so good. If you end up going and loving it, or don't see what you want on the menu, just ask Henry to make you something special. I love surprises. I once got a whole lobster, for $16! These are amazing people, that you want to get to know, please go visit them. Sorry so long, I just have so many good things to say.

I don't think I'm that hard to please when it comes to dim sum -- really! Just give me my pineapple buns (bo lo baos), my shrimp dumplings (har gau), my egg custards, and my coconut pudding, and I will be one happy camper. To be honest, Grand Oriental simply did not stack up. To start, they did not have any shrimp dumplings, as in they just didn't serve it. A bit odd, but it's okay since they have 3 of my other favorite small (sweet) plates. The bo lo baos had flaky crusts which made eating them quite difficult, but they were quite delicious. The egg custard and the coconut pudding, on the other hand, could use a little bit more work as the former was soggy and the latter grainy -- neither of which were a good combination. The other small plates that we ordered, while savory, were way too salty for my liking, and I ended up guzzling glasses after glasses of water following the meal. The dishes themselves weren't outstanding per se, but at least the service was. Servers (with the exception of one surly, masculine cart pushing lady) were polite, attentive, and gracious. Considering the fact that there are a couple of other dim sum spots in the city, I'd probably return to Grand Oriental for their regular menus during normal hours (and pray those other places know how to do dim sum the correct way.)

Dim Sum to the max! I've been here a few times and each time it gets better. You have the carts making their rounds with fresh and delicious chinese food! I'd especially try the rice soup with the 100yr egg it's sooo good. the owners are nice and the food is good!

We went here yesterday after church with empty stomachs... which wasn't the best idea. First off, I found the location rather strange. It is located in a strip mall and walking distance from a Mike's Express Car Wash, although I was too hungry to notice at the time. Like many of the Dim Sum places I have been to, the outside of the restaurant is very deceiving. The inside is in fact very nice; the decor is interesting and somewhat fancy, though the dress code is casual. OK, so why is the service in Chinese places always so darn fast? Nothing to complain about, but it baffles me. Carts stacked high with Dim Sum arrived at our table before we knew it. As for the food... Meh. The first thing we ordered was the spring rolls, which were supposedly filled with both meat and vegetables, but the veggies seemed to have disappeared. The dish was also very salty and a little bit overcooked. The pan-fried noodles: soggy, drenched in soy sauce... Though shrimp is one of my favorite things to order at Dim Sum, the two shrimp dishes we ordered were disappointing. Both were much too salty. (What's with all the salt today?) One was shrimp wrapped in a kind of phyllo dough, which was very soggy (and salty!), and the other was shrimp dumplings, which lacked flavor (because it was salty!) Overall, great service, not-so-great food. (Did I mention it was salty?) But in terms of cost, I guess it's worth what you pay for.

Coming from an international city, it was nice to find dim sum in Cincinnati. Staff is friendly, food is hot and great with tea. Location is convenient. Go and enjoy! Try something different for a weekend lunch.
