I know there are a lot of UC students visiting here but even as a consultant (that's me) working in Cinci 4 days a week, this is a 4 star joint. It actually is like an Indian authentic "Dhaba" or fresh roadside food that you absolutely cannot go wrong with. And as people said, the Chicken Tikka Masala + Garlic Nan is a combo that will blow your mind. Get the spicier version if you can. Also a great value for money. Everything is made fresh and you can feel it in your mouth. The only con is ambience and the heat that comes out of the Kitchen if you go in the summer. They need a little better ventilation. But then if the food is great, I personally don't care about the heat too much :-).

The Chicken Tikka Masala is fantastic. For $9.65 you get a heaping helping of rice that comes with the meal. 2 giants pieces of naan bread come free with your order during lunch time. Service is good and it took about 20-30 minutes for my food to be made. There were 5-6 men working there behind the counter when I went in around a quarter to 12. It's a lot better than some places where it's just 1 person to serve people. There isn't too strong of a food smell in the place. It's got like 5-6 tables for 2.

I found a piece of Chicken in my mouth after chewing on my Paneer Makhani. 'Nuff said. Eat at your own risk.

There are so many better indian places around! Yes they do deliver, however ours took an hour. We were at the college of medicine...what, like 5 minutes away? When I called at the one hour mark the guy was really rude and acted like I was being ridiculous! --no sir, you are! When we got our food it was SO greasy. I've had better quality rice and naan. The rice was overcooked and mushy, my onion naan tasted like an everything bagel with that dehydrated onion stench. The oil was floating to the top of my saag paneer, and my friends Chicken tikka masala had a thinner sauce than I'm used to and was much less flavorful and creamy than what I'm used to eating at Ambar. Despite being the only place to deliver indian, there is an $18 min, I would rather drive myself to ambar and spend half that price.

A staple Indian place for UC students! I eat here pretty often when I'm looking for a fix on heavy, creamy Indian food. The best time to go is for lunch. You can get a naan with the order and it's the same portion size as dinner. They also have coupons in the Bearcash book if you are eating with a friend. My go to dish is with Mushroom Matar or Malai Kofta. Both are great with the kashmiri naan which has coconut and raisins. Just today though I tried some leftovers of a friend's bhatara (spelling may be wrong), which is mashed up eggplant. It is easy less heavier than my usual dishes and with a lot of flavor. I'll definitely be trying that next time!

When I'm in the mood for some takeout Indian food, I always go with Deep India. Among the handful of Indian restaurants in Clifton, they're my favorite. They offer free deliver, $18 minimum, yes it's a lil' high, but most places don't even deliver, or they require a minimum PLUS a delivery fee. Their food is solid. I looove their onion naan, unlike some other Indian places, they don't overdo it with the spices in their onion naan. Even for delivery, the naan always arrives hot and soft. Their chicken tikka masala is another favorite of mine, chicken strips instead of chunky chicken, taste way better and not as dry. Their prices are also better, couple dollars cheaper than other Indian places nearby and their lunch special comes with free regular nann or garlic nann!

This place is amazing the sauces are awesome. The parking is bad but the food makes up for it. The place can be a little updated

  • John J.

Best Indian in the city. We order the same thing everytime but why mess with perfection? Garlic naan, saag paneer and chicken tikka masala. Always delivered faster than they tell you, always hot and always delicious.

  • Abby Y.

Best chicken tikka masala in Clifton (for the price). In my opinion, Ambar India is a little bit better, but after having the chicken tikka masala at Deep India, I can no longer justify paying nearly twice as much from Ambar anymore. I'd give it five stars but I hate dealing with parking in this area- it's really a hit or miss.

2 1/2 hr wait for delivery order. Need I say more?

Average curry. Waited 30 mins for my order. No apologies. Door stays open no matter how cold it is outside.

Deep India has amazing Indian food. If you go before 3 pm the garlic or plain nan are free. I order out at least once a month and have yet to be disappointed. I am giving 4* because the location is in a great spot for UC students but a horrible place for people driving. Parking in the area is very difficult and there are PAID parking lots. But come on I just paid for food I have to pay for parking too? The parking Authority should give a 15 min grace on the meter. Not a real problem of the restaurant. Anyway they deliver so I'd rather give the delivery guy a $2 tip than put $0.50 in the meter. It's the principle of the matter. The restaurant is a little dinky and small...I really worry about cleanliness but I never eat in so I don't have to see it. Finally, the staff is not very customer focus as non Americans often are. They are often difficult and inflexible. I asked if they could make some of my rice into a branny and charge an up charge. They said "no". Oh well the food is still good.

Fantastic Indian cuisine, highly recommended for those who have a taste for the indian palate. The prices are reasonable and the food supersedes the cost. There is something for everyone, and the options for heat level provide each their own individual order.

FINALLY! A delicious indian restaurant that delivers to downtown cincy. I literally jumped for joy when we stumbled upon this place on a delivery website. Huge array of authentic indian dishes at super reasonable prices. We loved the sag paneer, chicken tikka masala and naan. We are not super spicy people and the level 2 tikka masala had a little bit of a bite! The samosas were just ok....pretty greasy but the filling was tasty.

  • Sable B.

Clifton is home to quite the number of Indian restaurants, and Deep is definitely my best in-and-out Indian place in the area. It's reasonably priced, the wait is only about 10-15 minutes, and they deliver! They even mosey on down to OTR (my favorite part!).

    (4)
  • E Y.

Best Indian in the city. Phenomenal flavors, great value! Chicken saag is to die for, as is muttar paneer. Frankly, it's hard to not find a good dish. It's a hole in the wall, but it's a hole in the wall worth visiting.

  • Jessie T.

Another Clifton favorite that can be backed by many other Clifton residents and college students. However, I simply love them for their garlic naan! It is so flavorful and will also come with your meal free if you order during lunch. They have a decent amount of seating, but will also do carry-out AND delivery. Great food, great service, and great convenience.

The food is good. I'm a fan of most of the food, Chicken Tikka Marsalis, lamb curry, and bryanie (?). But if you're thinking a delivery, think again. It took almost 2 hours to get food to Riddle. I'd ordered deliveries about 10 times and it always took an hour or more. Just pick up the food.

If you ask any friend of mine who has come to visit where the best place to snag a bite in Ohio is, they'll tell you Deep India. I've got 'em all hooked. If I say a friend and I are going to dinner or if it's date night for the Mrs. and myself, we're usually here. I am a Deep India loyalist and I've been there probably once a week or so since moving to Ohio a year and a half ago. I. Freaking. Love. Deep. I've probably tried a quarter of the menu (though I rarely stray from the saag dishes, curried meats/veg in a creamy, hearty, balanced and spicy base of spinach and tomato) so I'll just list a number of my favorites: Chicken tikka saag - spicy marinated tandoori chicken tikka in the aforementioned creamy saag base. It's smooth, tender, and seriously one of the best things to ever grace my taste buds. I'm a snob about this kind of stuff, too. Fish saag - it's like the above but with a flaky, light, and delicious whitefish that compliments everything perfectly. This is my new go-to, recently usurping chicken tikka saag. Saag paneer - it's saag paneer. Have you ever eaten Indian food before? You've probably had this, but these guys do it better. Trust me. Chicken Shahi Korma - delicious korma curry with raisins, nuts, fresh paneer and chicken. It's tomatoey, zesty, and spicy. Any vindaloo - vindaloo is good and surprisingly hard to screw up. Never found a bad attempt at it. It's also done especially well here. It's less vinegary than typical. Breadwise: The paratha is light, flaky, and delicious. It's similar to the plain naan but with a hint of butter and the layers typical in this style of bread. Garlic naan - you want this. It's good. It's naan. If you've eaten Indian food before, you've definitely had naan. It's freshly made though and better than anything you'll find at the "hip" buffets in Gaslight. I like the garlic variety because garlic tastes good, y'all. Kashmiri naan - this stuff is like dessert. I would get this sparingly only as it can be sweet and crumble into your curry. I could eat it solo though, no problem. Seriously, you won't find better prices, portions, and definitely not better food anywere. ANYWHERE. Your search ends here.

HUGE fan, cheapest Indian food in the area! My friends and I would often go here or have it delivered, and the portion sizes are pretty decent. I never finish all of my food, but the boxes they serve you in are very convenient to bring home and eat for lunch the next day. 2 meals for a low price? Take it! Not to mention I've always been satisfied with the quality of the food. My personal favorite is saag paneer, but I have also tried most of their other popular dishes like the tikka masala, vindaloo, tandoori, and of course the naan. The staff is always willing to help with choosing a dish if needed - very friendly!

  • Kate S.

I miss this place so much since I moved to LA! None of the delivery Indian food here stacks up to Deep India. You can't beat the prices, and they've always been nice and prompt with their delivery. My personal favorites are their saags, chicken tikka masala, and vindaloos. In other words, basically everything on the menu is good. Bonus points for their inclusion of rice with your entree. Of course parking isn't easy, but it's worth the hassle for the food. I make a point to go here or order delivery every time I'm home.

The food is good, but with so many other choices for Indian in the area I don't think we we will be ordering from there again. I have provided a timeline of our delivery experience to explain why. 8:11- original order placed, I was told it would be there in 50-60 min 9:21- I call the store to ask for an update. They tell me that the driver is on his way. 9:47- The driver calls me, confused, with the wrong address. I correct him. 9:58- The driver calls back, now with the right address, but is lost. He is across the street (maybe 3 min from our apt) so I give him directions. 10:13- I call to check on the driver. He still is sitting across the street. 10:23-Food arrives. However, we are missing part of our order. I call the store and they say it will be out to us in a few minutes. 11:15-The rest of the food arrives, a full 3 hours from ordering, and over 2 hours late. We didn't really want the food by the time it finally got there, and I felt lied to on multiple occasions. Not a great experience.

Deep has totally transformed the place since opening. It's really nice inside and the quality of food is excellent. I highly recommend Deep India! They do a great job and are really nice people. It's hard to maintain a successful business in Clifton Heights, but I hope they make it. I love to support this independently owned establishment with unbeatable prices! Also, since writing my original review, I've started working in a restaurant. We keep our A/C on all year long because it gets crazy hot when you're working around big stoves in a small kitchen. Deep is more of a carry-out restaurant, but there are plenty of tables and they offer fountain drinks and great people watching from the window. Oh, and they have great hours. Open until 10 PM! And they deliver (to Clifton).

  • Destiny R.

The best indian food I've had. The chicken tikka masala is delicious, rich, and creamy. I've tried the saag paneer also and its just as good. The free naan during lunch is a nice touch. Great portion sizes with more than enough food left for the next day. Deep India is such a gem! I will definitely return whenever I'm in the area.

I usually go to Krishna for my Indian food fix, but when I'm extra lazy, I order Deep India for delivery. Since day 1 of ordering, food delivery has been EXTREMELY slow. So don't be surprised to wait 95 minutes or more. This review is not for the delivery time, I would say it's more for the interior of the place. The guys that work there seem nice, and the food is consistent and decent. I've only ever gotten delivery from this place until one day my husband and I decided to pick it up due to the long delivery wait time. The interior of this place is absolutely grimy and gross. You can see they don't really pay attention to any details of the place, so I can't imagine what the food quality is like. I will continue eating here, but if there's one critique, it would be to clean the place up a bit more!

I LOVE the food at Deep India, and they (sometimes) deliver to Downtown! Indian delivery? This was the best discovery ever. Skip the samosas, like other reviewers have recommended. But order other food like the Chana Masala and it's delicious -- flavorful, good spice level, exceptional. Here's the problem: You can't count on them (like other reviewers have noted). -- The first time we ordered delivery, we were told 30 to 45 minutes. We called an hour later, and the driver was "just leaving." -- One Saturday night, we called and the driver had decided to go home early. -- Another time, I called at 6:30 p.m. on a Friday and the phone rang and rang and rang -- no answer, no voicemail. So, delicious food if you can get it -- but don't get your hopes up for consistent or prompt delivery.

  • Abbey M.

The food is great. The Service, especially delivery, leaves a lot to be desired. We called and ordered our lunch at 11:05am. By 1pm our lunch still had not been delivered and we had spoken with the resturant twice trying to find out where our food was. This happening once, it happens... but this is EVERY SINGLE TIME WE order. This is unacceptable especially catering to an environment like clifton which is primarily businesses and hospitals that operate on strict schedules for lunch. I will never order again. I can go to Krishna and get my food in 20 minutes and their food is just as good if not better.

This is my favorite place for Indian if I can't go to Louisville for it. Their Chicken Tikka Masala and Lamb Curry are delicious. I do wish they would get more seating though! If you love Indian, check this place out! You will not be disappointed.

I live an hour and a half away in Kentucky, and anytime I'm near Cincinnati I *have* to eat at Deep India. It's so good I look for an excuse to go to Cincinnati! They have the best Tikka Masala I've ever had. Ever. I've eaten Indian food all over the country and this is my favorite! It's SO flavorful with just the right spices of everything. The naan bread is just as perfect. And the rice. It's just rice, right? No, it's the best. I don't know what makes it so good, but it's so good. The interior is small, hot, and maybe a little a gross. They definitely put all of their focus on the food. I do wish they didn't use styrofoam boxes. Even if you dine in your food comes boiling hot in a styrofoam box. I imagine the toxins leaching out of the container into my food... The only positive way I can look at this is that the portions are huge, and I never have to ask for a to-go box.

  • Luke G.

Great Indian food. A little higher than comfort for price of a single meal but it ends up being two meals so very much worth it. If you actually like food spicy ask for the spicyness to be a 11 out of 10 and they'll know what you mean. Great for carry out, never eating in but I will say I never truly appreciated Indian food till deep India. Let 'em get deep into ya.

  • Laura W.

This place is excellent! You get huge portions and pricing is economical. Food is made to order, so it is hot when it comes out. Staff is friendly. Large selection of vegetarian foods.

  • Sabrina K.

The appearance and size of the restaurant itself aren't so impressive, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality, quantity, and price of the food! I would especially reccommend the daal makhani and chicken tikka saag. You get plenty in every dish so don't go overboard when ordering!

  • Katie F.

This place is killer for greasy vegetarian food. Our go to dinner: 1 order of the "vegetarian platter," a lovely mishmash of fried potatoes, vegetables, cheese, and dipping sauces. 1 order of Nav Ratan Korma, a creamy/spicy sauce with vegetables in it 1 order of garlic naan, though we tried the Kashmiri naan (with coconut in it) and it tasted awesome! Spice-5/6 burns so good! This is enough for two people to enjoy a large dinner and have enough left over for at least one person to have lunch. Look for the coupon in the Cincinnati Saver for $$ off your 2nd entrée.

Low expense, High quality. Fantastic food. Get a "6" spice level if you're feelin froggy. I did. ;)

I wish I wasn't writing this, however, I have never received such horrible service. I work at a busy local hospital and we've ordered from Deep before, always allowing an hour for delivery. This last order was placed online, we received a confirmation email.....1.5 hours later we called to ask how much longer the order would be and were told 'it's on it's way, sir.' Still, another hour later (2.5 total hours) we had not received the order. Another call was placed and they claim they never got our order. Not sure how that is possible since the credit card was charged AND we got confirmation via the first telephone call that the order was received and on it's way. The person who answered did not apologize and asked if we still wanted the food. It would be another 45 minutes to an hour at that point. So almost 3.5 to 4 hours after the order was placed?? We won't be ordering from Deep again.

    (1)
  • Ashwin K.

Dont ever ask them to deliver. They take atleast one and a half hours and atmost two hours to deliver your food.

    (1)
  • Matthew E.

I've been going to Deep Indian for 4 years now and it is the best value for Indian food in the Clifton area. Prices are great, food is always made quickly without any sacrifice in quality.

    (5)
  • Vishal S.

Ok. This is good Indian food. No doubt at all about it but the staff is weird. They are rude, inconsiderate and dirty. If you want to eat here, don't come to the place and do the delivery. If you look at the staff, you can never eat Indian Food.

    (3)
  • Todd F.

They are a casual restaurant that does a lot of take out orders. But their food is as good or better than other places that are twice the price. It's that good. They make it to order, give you a decent amount (usually enough to take home), and it's made right.

0 stars for service. 4 stars for food. Averaging the stars to give two overall. I had the same exact experience as Hanna D, below, just last night. And this is not the first time that I have experienced bad service. But it is the first time we experienced bad service related to delivery service. Whether I call ahead for carry-out, or whether I request delivery - the service is terrible. The food is really good and reasonably-priced (in my opinion). And the people are friendly. So, I keep trying to have a good experience here. But every single time I order from here it's a hassle. Last night was the first time I called and requested a delivery that they actually said they could deliver. All previous times I call to ask for delivery, they say they are too busy. Last night, we ordered food at 7:05. They said it would take 55-75 minutes. I had to give them my address three times on the original phone call. I questioned whether they would actually come because of the need to repeat my address three times. (It was as if he was not writing anything down, shuffling papers and talking to other people in the background.) At two hours (approximately 9:05), after no delivery, I called to inquire what the status was. The person who answered the phone said the driver had left and was on his way. The driver should be arriving in a few minutes. No apologies or acknowledgement that it was late. (I live a few blocks away, so it would take no longer than 5 minutes to drive to my house. But I allowed for more time in case they had a few stops.) At 2.5 hours, I called again to very calmly explain that still no one had arrived. They put me on hold and never came back to the phone. I hung up and called back. They never answered. My husband called back and they immediately answered. (This makes me think they didn't want to talk to me anymore.) He inquired about the status of our order and they again had to make him repeat our address twice. Then they put him on hold to check the status and never came back to the phone. My husband called back again around the three hour mark and passed the phone to me. I very calmly expressed how disappointed we were in the service and that it had been three hours since we ordered food. Their explanation was that they are busy at this time of night. That's it. They are busy. Then they asked me what I wanted them to do. I explained that I would like them to stop offering a delivery service if they can't actually deliver. I told them how every time I order from them it is a hassle. They offered to call the delivery driver to check on the status of my delivery. That's it. That was their offer. Finally, a few minutes later, they actually called back and said the delivery driver came and called me twice and I never answered the door or the phone. I never had any missed calls on my phone, and definitely no one showed up at the door. (I have a chihuahua that barks uncontrollably when even just my husband walks in the door, or when a dog next door, inside the house, barks. So we DEFINITELY did not miss them!!) I told them to just cancel the order because at this point it was 10:30 and we made something else to eat. They called back again a few minutes later and offered to deliver the food for free. They just didn't want the food to go to waste. I told them not to bother and to give the food to someone else. So, it seemed like someone with much better service skills "took over my order" but at that point it was just too late. So, in the end, I must say that they finally did try to make good on their mess-up, but this is probably the final straw for us...

I've been craving Indian food for months and this place hit the spot! My friend and I came down to Cincy as a little holiday trip since were off from school and way too far to go back home. We yelped this place and found this little hole in the wall place. We drove past it without even knowing! I ordered the chicken curry at a level 4 on the spice meter. This is so darn delicious! Level 4 spicy was just perfect for me! Not only is this place super cheap but it also gives you loads of food!! My friend and I could've split an order and still would've had leftovers! (Taking home leftovers isn't recommended..) I would give this place 5 stars but this place was so dirty! I happened to see a bug crawling while I was sitting down at one of the tables. NOT OKAY! The floors were dirty. Just eww! I'm tempted to even give this place a 2 star rating for how dirty it is.. But the food makes up for it. Overall 5+ stars on how delicious the food was. 2 stars on how grossed out I was about this place

I've had takeout from Deep India on two occasions now so take this review with a grain of salt as I have never dined in. The dishes are solid, like most Cincinnati Indian restaurants they are definitely Westernized with lighter spicing and more cream, but that being said, they are tasty. I've tried their Lamb Vindaloo, Saag Lamb, Saag Paneer, and Naan. In terms of spice level, if you are a spice junkie then go with their 6/6 spice rating, it is more than manageable for those with a fire palate.

  • Joei S.

Good food, terrible service. I understand that I might wait 45-60 minutes for delivery, but when we get closer to two hours after multiple callbacks to employees who don't seem to understand what the problem is, we have issues. There are too many indian joints in Clifton to deal with this,

    (1)
  • Issac M.

Excellent saag. Excellent curry. Parking can be a biotch but at least it's cheap. Prices are legit. Portions are enormous. Bathroom (door in particular) is gross. We unfortunately experienced an issue when someone else grabbed our order. So minus one star for the cashier not checking their ticket and just giving our food to the people who ordered AFTER us. Other than that, I'd go back.

  • Noah F.

The best chicken sag ever. Period. I have eaten everywhere and the food is so fresh and delicious here. Fast, cheap, and delicious. On par with food twice the price or more. I drive out of my way just to come here.

1Liner - Just too good Indian food. Just right amount of oil, masala, spice. And they taste seriously wowsome. Fish Tikka - Just fanatabulous, so soulful. Never imagined salamon tastes so nice in an Indian palette. Chikcen-chhole - Very nice, very tasty, full of flavor, gentle on the stomach. Dont count on ambiance, location, parking convenience. Not a family place either. You can use it for carryout or u can dine in with friends.

  • Ms K.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!! I have been to 3 other indian restaurants, and this is by far my number 1. The flavor of the chicken tikka masala is bold and has a kick.to it for a spicy level of 2.. I have had the spicy level of 3 and that was pushing it.. Very flavorful

  • Scott R.

Good food - Shahi paneer was delicious! Garlic Naan was over the top! Lonnnggg wait. Had the place been a hotbed of activity, no problem. No customers, though, and a 35+ minute wait?

  • Chandri V.

Fan no more! Cheapskates, skimping on quality. Ordered shahi korma, description promised nuts and raisins. Found stale pieces of undercooked chicken and no nuts or raisins! Wouldn't complain if this were the first and only occurrence... Happened twice in a row. I think the chef has changed.

Service I always have pleasant experiences with Deep India. They are very friendly and courteous. I'm not an expert on Indian food, so I appreciate their patience and honesty when I try to choose a dish. For carry-out or delivery orders, it takes at least 30min, so place the order before you're \hungry. Food I can't describe in words just how amazingly delicious their dishes taste. They also give you decently sized meals, which you can save for later. (Yes, more yummy food when you want to fully experience it all over again!) You can also adjust the curry sauce, which is a plus for those who are health conscious. I will really miss this restaurant when I move. They are always friendly and helpful; I am always thrilled to give my business to them. Tasty food and lovely staff.

Deep India cares not for decoration, frills, or any kind of "experience." Deep India cares only about the food - and when you eat there you'll feel the same way. Seriously, this is some of the BEST Indian in Cincinnati. Excellent menu with lots of options for everyone - vegetarian or not. I love getting the mixed platter appetizer (the samosas and pakoras are just so amazing) and it's completely worth buying naan to go with whatever you're eating. The usual tikka masala, saag, etc. are all excellent here - but I urge you to try the other items on the menu too. There's not a single dish here that has ever disappointed me. The service is pretty much non-existent and it is like eating in a cafeteria - your food comes in the to-go box only on a plastic tray, the decor is extremely minimalist and bare-bones. But the atmosphere is NOT why you should come here, or anything you should care about. It's all about delicious, cheap food. I can spend $20 on myself and have enough food for 3 meals. They're always nice, but don't expect them to bring your food to you or to become best friends with them (unless you are literally here every day and try to chat with them, then you might. But otherwise, it's not a priority for them and really shouldn't be for you either.)

Worst deliver ever we have ordered here 3 or 4 times today was the worst 2 hours and 15 minutes later we get our order, we were told 45 minutes . Called numerous times, awful service good food .

Deep india has great saag and deals. Not the best in the city but its great for the cheap prices.

One of our favorite Indian restaurants for take out. The price is spot on for the quality and quantity of food. Plus if you are ordering an entree before 3 you get free naan! Super creamy curry, not as spiced as others but still yum!

For me, this is the best indian by UC's campus. Their curry has a thicker texture than Krishna, and better flavors as well. The only issue is their curry runs about $1 higher per dish.

I previously have eaten at this place a few times and was relatively impressed by their food. I've also gotten takeout and delivery which previously has not been an issue. This evening we called to place a take-out order and were given a big runaround by the very rude people who answered the phone. We were initially told 45 minutes when placing the order, which we thought was acceptable on a busy Saturday night. After about 50 to 55 minutes we called back and were told that the order was on its way. After over an hour and 10 minutes from order time, we called back and found out that the order was in fact still at the restaurant. This would've been somewhat acceptable if the associate on the phone was sorry about the situation, however he was very rude and not accommodating whatsoever. I do not plan to eat here ever again, however this is not because of the quality of the food.

Deep India is my guiltiest of gluity pleasures! My favorites are the chicken saag and the chicken tikki masala both at a spicy level of 5. I admit, the food is not as good as Ambar, it is a bit greasier, oiler, and not as rich in flavor. The actual restaurant is tiny... they probably have only 5 tables in the entire place. But hey, Deep India has 3 things going for them: 1) they are cheaper than Ambar, 2) their portions are large (usually lasts me two full meals!), and 3) they deliver! I can't count how many times I've been stuck in the library at 9pm studying for an exam and STARVING. All I have to do is make a quick call to Deep India and wah-lah, yummy Indian food appears in front of me in no time! In all, Deep India is quick and affordable - two things that the time-deprived, broke grad student in me absolutely loves!

The best Indian food I have had in the US! Cooked to perfection. I've tried every one of their vegetarian dishes and yet to find one not to my liking.

Ok, so I was told that ordering in was a completely different experience... and it was! I had the aloo ghobi, and waited (they make it when you order, so be patient!), and it was well worth the wait. TL;DR - don't order delivery, but if you have the time to dine-in or carry-out, it's worth the wait.

Best Indian Restaurant in the area --no wait... I'm almost convinced it's the best Indian food I've tasted outside of NYC. Awesome rice ---as in... several times I ordered just rice.

Good food! Really fast delivery to my hotel. Super fast. You need to order a minimum of $25 worth of food for delivery so that's good to know. I wanted leftovers so didn't mind getting a few extra items. They give large portions of rice- some places don't provide enough rice in the take-out orders but this wasn't a problem. The samosas are HUGE and look like a triceratops head. I ordered a spice level of four in the chana masala and tikka masala and found that it was a nice heat level. I am currenlty in the area for work and will be back in a few weeks. I would not hesitate to order from here again.

If it says anything, I drove this past holiday weekend to Cincinnati from Bloomington, Indiana (2.5 hours), pretty much for the explicit purpose of getting the food here. Why? Because it's that good. Definitely the best Indian I've had in the Midwest, at least outside of Chicago, and always a good excuse to get to Cincy, which is always a good time. It's the ultimate hole in the wall. Not dirty, but dark and definitely not much to look at, relatively hard to find and harder to park at, perpetually uncomfortable (either too hot or too cold) inside, only a few tables, and the cheap paper napkins and styrofoam and plastic servings do not lend themselves well to the overall ambiance. But once you get into the food, you'll realize why this is such a big f'in deal. The rice is great, the meat and other protein is always very well-cooked, but the sauces are just amazing. AMAZING! I just can never get over how good these sauces are when we come. The naan is also very, very good and, because they know what they're doing, there's plenty of extra sauce for you to slop onto that rice or sop up with the naan. All entrees come with rice and one piece of naan. "Rice" means enough rice to literally work its way out of the holes in its styrofoam container, pushed up by the huge helping of the entree. Veggie and chicken dishes start at about $8, lamb dishes are around $10. Yeah, that's it... I guess they keep the costs low by keeping the pretenses out. And there are definitely no pretenses here. I've tried a couple of sit-down places in town that were highly-regarded on Yelp, as well as what I can I only assume is the rival hole-in-the-wall Indian place on Calhoun and, no, they're not as good. Not anywhere near as good. Is it worth the drive? Absolutely. The Indian places in Bloomington are awful, and they're just passable in Indianapolis, so I feel lucky at least that I don't have to go as far as Chicago to get really great Indian food. This is a must-stop if you're in the area and really enjoy Indian food.

I've been meaning to review these guys for a while now since I go there on the regular, but I must officially profess my love for this place. This is THE best indian in the city, I'm convinced. Their food is fresh, flavorful, and a great deal (about $9-10 for a huge portion). Also, during lunchtime, they give you free naan! Get the Chicken Tikka Saag....oh my god. You might die. And make sure that if you're buying the naan (non-lunchtime), get the Kashmiri Naan (with the nuts and coconut) because it's the same price as the other naan. Again, you will probably die it's so good, but you'll die happy. The food comes out a tad slow, so be patient, but again, it's the best. You can wait an extra 5 minutes for the best. I crave their food weekly. They probably inject it with small doses of heroine, but that's ok with me.

We ordered from Deep for an office lunch; we made 5 orders of nan, 2 veggie dishes, 5 chicken dishes. We called as soon as they opened and delivery took 90 min. When the food arrived it was hot and well packaged but was largely unimpressive. The nan was good, and the rice was ok but these are standards. The veggies were overcooked and were likely frozen and the sauces lacked flavor. The chicken in the sauces was tender but the chicken tikka was burnt :( (as in black and charred on the bottom). The dal also had kidney beans which we found odd. Overall this was a disappointing experience, we won't be back.

Deep India is my on-campus standby for when I'm craving Indian food hard. It's cheap, it's close to campus, and the flavors are great! The portions don't look that big, but once you start eating you realize that you'll probably have enough leftovers for another whole meal. The saag paneer and chicken tikka masala are always great, and their garlic naan always hits the spot. If I'm feeling like a big spender, I'll spring for the mango lassi too, (rationalizing the purchase by telling myself it'll help cool down the spiciness). Speaking of spiciness, I believe they use a 1-6 scale for their spice levels. I'm not one who can handle a lot of spicy, but their 3 is usually a good heat level for me. The one downside to Deep India is that delivery takes forever. Like... actually forever. If you're slightly hungry when you order, by the time your food finally arrives, you'll be so hungry your stomach will be doing that weird gurgly thing where it's trying to eat itself because you won't feed it. Dine in and carry out is usually much faster though!

  • Zack F.

Typical food cart style. Great for carry out if you live locally, feeling a little hung over, late night studying, dreary day. Spice level is fairly accurate. Too bland, too sweet, just boring. Going for quantity over quality. If you'd rather get chicken curry than standard fast food and aren't a big Indian food connoisseur, you'll be fine.

  • Ashley O.

This has to be the best Indian place in Cincy. I would choose here over Ambar, Krishna, or any of the other places in Clifton or around it. The paneer makhani is freaking awesome. They don't really care about frills or fancy dinnerware...they are all about the good food.

    (5)
  • Alex L.

Pretty much definitely without a doubt the best Indian food in the city. The only reason it isn't getting 5 stars on Yelp overall is because of the awkwardly awful service. Everyone in the restaurant is always fairly unhappy to see you, and delivery takes 1 hour minimum. BUT I happily endure these customer service abuses for the AMAZING food. Seriously, everything you can order from this place is perfect in every way. So many amazing dishes, such great prices. Their Chicken Sagg is to die for, and their vegetarian dishes are all amazingly flavored. This place does tend to run on the spicy side-- order lower than your normal.

Great tasty and inexpensive food.If you want decor, its not here. Service, nope.....quality food and wonderful Naan YES YES YES. Great rice too I had the curry today with a spice level of 6....maybe a 4 but still well done. I now have a fav place in Clifton

  • Ricky M.

The best in Clifton! The Naan is phenomenal. We always get the Chicken Ajwan. It is delicious, the only quam I have is sometimes the spice level can be a little off a 3 could range from 2-4.

  • Jeremy B.

My second favorite Indian joint, just behind Dusmesh. Props for closer location though. I have been here more than Dusmesh also, and it is very consistently delicious. I never have had a disappointing meal here, and that includes 5 or 6 different dishes. I am always feeling completely satisfied with my choice at the end too, as if I couldn't have made a better one. (The Saag, lamb or paneer, is fantastic). The inside is very cozy, and the staff is very polite, so I have no complaints here. Just make sure you are a good judge of your spice tolerance, because when you say "6"(the highest rating) you will get some damn spicy food.

  • Keyshaun S.

This place was very good. The portions are crazy and the prices are amazing. Me personally I would ask for a little less sauce on my food when I order again but every time I visit Cincy I will eat here all the time.

Best Indian food in Cincinnati hands down. Lots of vegetarian options, lunch special w/ free naan, and great service. Some of the other places in the area (one in particular) have some employees that need to learn some social graces and not be so rude to their paying customers. Because of this and the higher quality of food here at Deep India, it's now my go-to. Not the best place to have a nice sit down meal but it's clean inside with a clean open kitchen. Eat here, they're vegetable jalfrezi is amazing. Also, they're rice is the best...super moist with a few peas on top.

HURRAY! Another great Indian restaurant in Cincinnati! But it's that. If this spot was in a city without Indian food (like any other city I've lived in), it would be number one on my list. But somehow, it has popped up just around the corner from Krishna, Dusmesh, Ambar, and many others. I love the hole-in-the-wall nature, and the menu leaves nothing to be desired. I had to get my go-to, Chicken Tika Masala, for a true apples-to-apples comparison against the other spots I mentioned. I found that Krishna is still my favorite Indian, and Ambar is still the best if you are looking for even more heavy cream. I would never feel bad about coming back to this spot, but it's literally walking distance from Krishna. But you might like it better, so give it a try! Bottom Line: I'd definitely be back if it weren't around the corner from my favorite - Krishna.

Very good Indian food, even for something ordered at a counter and served in a styrofoam box. It's also a great value for Indian made to order, by the "dish" (in contrast to the multitude of indistinguishable buffets you'll find around town these days). My go-to is the Tikka Saag and it was probably as good as I've had in the area. The standout, though, was the bhatura which was literally the size of a pro football, inflated with steaming hot air...fresh, delicious, and frankly, fun to eat. (There's not many foods you get to "pop" before you eat.) I have to admit that I hesitated to Yelp about it for fear of letting the secret out...

Has this place become my favorite Indian restaurant in the city? After three visits (and becoming the mayor on foursquare), I think that's a definite, "yes!" As a "native" (been living in the area for 20+ years) I've seen many Indian restaurants come and go. Some are still left standing, because of mass appeal, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's good Indian. What I love about Deep, is it's simplicity. This is a non frou frou kinda place, no waiters, no silverware on the table. The owners recognize that by setting up in the business district that serves the University of Cincinnati crowd, they have to think like a college community thinks: need to eat good food, fast and for cheap. I wouldn't recommend this place for large groups (not even 10 tables inside) but I do recommend it for a cute date night with a girlfriend or the boo. Bottom line why you should go: food is good. And there's LOTS of it. In fact, there's so much food that at after one visit, I seriously had leftovers for three more days! No lie! My one recommendation that everyone should check out from the menu: the special vegetable samosa. It's an appetizer, but seriously could pass for a light meal. Eating it, with an order of chai, takes me right back to my homeland of India, having afternoon tea along the busy streets of Kochi. So go. Take it from this Indian.

I am soooooooooooooooooo impressed! I ate here during college and I would travel a long way away to get this good Indian food. The best ever! Only $11 bucks for the Chicken Tikka Masala and a large portion. They will give the nun bread for free during lunch. Great food at a great price. Very impressed. If you have not eaten here, you are seriously missing out.

  • Camilo O.

I would say that I've eaten here probably more than any single restaurant in all of Metro-Cincinnati. Seriously. As you'll read in many reviews, their Chicken Tika Masala is totally killer (and it is). However, sometimes I'm feeling like a bit more meat and the Chicken TIKA delivers. Not to be confused with the Tika Masala, the Tika is a crap-ton of awesome chicken with a magic sauce of onions, tomatoes and other ingredients that rival crack on the addictiveness scale. This monstrosity of a plate, and I mean that in a good way, is always enough for two meals and has become my Sunday staple (after bottomless mimosa brunch, but that's a story for another day).

Now I've never actually eaten inside of Deep India, but have gotten delivery from here dozens of times and I love it. Just the fact that a place up near UC delivers to the riverfront is awesome enough on its own. Once you factor in the food being very good, Deep India is a definite winner when it comes to living and eating in downtown Cincinnati. Between my wife and I, we've dabbled with a good portion of DI's menu. She has settled on a favorite (lamb curry), while I tend to experiment around and go for what I'm in the mood for. I like some dishes more than others, but they're all good or better. To get to the point, there isn't much to complain about here. The food is probably A- and delivery takes a good hour (and usually 15 minutes longer than estimated), but aside from that, I have nothing bad to say about Deep India. Call them up, place your order, and soon enough you'll be in take-out nirvana.

  • Amy T.

Okay, full disclosure - I first ordered from Deep India only because they would deliver to me in Mt. Auburn. But how awesome is it when those purely business-like transactions yield food nirvana?! First things first: when calling Deep India, they are kind, yet efficient, even when they are super busy. There is a $15 minimum for delivery, but they'll help you fill out the order when needed. My now-standard: Chicken Tikka Masala, Garlic Naan, and the Assorted Vegetable Platter. Now, to the food (my mouth waters as I remember it). The garlic naan is always hot upon delivery (it's like magic!), smells amazing, and has just the right amount of minced garlic and ghee. The vegetable mixed platter (I'm working from memory here...) includes one (maybe two?) veggie samosa, two veggie pakoras (my fave), two paneer pakora (fried cheese squares), and maybe papardamm. All are fabulous, and even reheat with pretty decent results. But it's the main event, the Chicken Tikka, that keeps me coming back. I order mine at either a 4 or 5, depending on my mood, 'cause Amy likes her chicken spicy. The chicken is kind of shredded, rather than cut into large chunks, so it melds with the sauce beautifully. And the sauce itself is spicy and complex in a way that totally blew my mind, especially coming from an Indian takeaway spot. Now, ordering at a 5 IS spicy -- it even gets a nod of respect from my I'll-take-my-wings-at-extreme, spice-loving husband. Best part: the order mentioned above is enough for at least two dinners for me, maybe a lunch, too. You can't beat that for 15 bucks!

This place is great! I think I like the food at Krishna more, but they don't deliver. Deep India is great for when you want really good Indian food but are a little too lazy to leave your house. Just like most others who reviewed this place, I am a huge fan of the Chicken Tikka Masala and Garlic Naan! Just FYI - the delivery minimum is now $18.

    (4)
  • Mike B.

More polished looking than Krishna one block over, but lacks that special hole-in-the-wall charm. Ordered a Chicken Tiki Massala for comparative purposes at a five (out of six) spice level. First pass observation: post preparation garnish (unlike Krishna), it ended up being the only thing exciting about this dish. Dish had a weak, one dimensional flavor profile, with pockets of spice, and no where near the expected heat. Also, dish was light on the chicken, heavy on the sauce, the naan wasn't much better.

Deep India is hands down the best Indian food in Cincinnati. The food tastes amazing (as flavorful and greasy as proper Indian food should be). The people who work there are very friendly. The value is, by far, the best in Cincinnati. More, better, food for less money. Whatever to do. The hidden gem of Cincinnati's indian food scene. Oh. And they DELIVER!!!

  • Michael C.

This place is ridiculously good. And cheap. For only $9 (including the price of a 20 oz Diet Pepsi) I got enough saag paneer, naan and rice for two complete meals. (Correction: Two ridiculously good complete meals.) Strange as it might sound, the part that impressed me the most about Deep India was how hot and fresh their food was. Even though I drove five miles back to my house before digging in, my saag was almost slightly too warm to eat. That's a welcome change of pace from many of the cold-before-it-reaches-your-plate Indian restaurants I've visited in greater Cincinnati. Deep India's seating is limited and their decor is virtually nonexistant, which is understandable as it caters to the students of the nearby University of Cincinnati. In some ways, Deep India strikes me as the Five Guys Burgers and Fries of Indian food: A somewhat plain and unassuming setting for incredible meals that shouldn't be missed by any true foodie.

There are 54,8390 Indian restaurants in Clifton. This one is my favorite, second to Krishna only because it is cheaper. I think they are more or less the same in quality, but you save around 3 bucks by going to Deep India, so, what the hell. Standard Indian restaurant, order at the counter, wait around, eat-in or take-out. You can get an entree and naan for 10 dollars, which beats all the other ones that run around 13. I am a big saag paneer fan, which deep india does great. Fast, friendly service. They have given me and my roommate free things on multiple occasions, pretty sure it is not because they recognized us and just because they are nice. We got a caramel apple once, and a salad another time. That is what's up. I love spicy, but my roommate is really fragile when it comes to spiciness level.. apparently the '1' at Deep India is mild compared to Krishna. This information may be of use to you if you are a wuss. I guess the only reasons for not going here are if you want a buffet, which they don't have, or if you have some sort of deep relationship established with some other Indian place. Inside restaurant is pretty nice and clean, you can seat anywhere from 4 to maybe 6-8 if you pushed some tables together. They also rule because they deliver.. nice.

Amazing Indian food! I am just getting into the whole Indian food menu. Both times I have been here I have been impressed. The quantities are very large (as with many Indian restaurants) and the food is good quality. The first time I tried Deep India I accidentally ordered the spiciest option. At my previous experience with Indian food at Krishna, I ordered a six out of 10 for spicy, and it was pretty spicy. I liked it a lot, so I got a six again. I brought the food back to my apartment and noticed they put a menu in my take out bag. I browsed through the menu just before digging in and noticed that their spicy level only goes to six! I hesitantly opened the container and tried the chicken tikki masala. Despite the extreme heat I finished over half of my meal before packing it back into my fridge. Though I did enjoy the food, the next time I got a level four.

Somebody in a previous review mentioned having a "deep relationship with another Indian restaurant", and I totally do. Because you never forget your first time, ya know? But then Deep India came along, and for a very long time I fought fiercely against it in the neighborhood Indian food wars, until I was finally convinced by my boyfriend to give it a shot. So we went and much to my surprise, it was still delicious! Imagine my shock. The last thing Clifton really needs is another Indian restaurant, so you've gotta make a name for yourself. Others have character, longevity, or lunch buffets. Deep India has delivery! When you consider that everybody's favorite time to eat Indian food is on super snowy & cold days...why would you want to leave your house to get it when you don't have to! Not to mention, the quality of food is the same and you'll pay a few dollars less. Win! Deep India is my go-to now because of the convenience and price, but I'll still visit my first love every once in a while when I'm feeling sentimental and nostalgic :)

  • Sam K.

Terrific Indian food, even better that it's delivered. Portions are large so the prices are very good if you keep that in mind. I always have leftovers. I wouldn't go here if I were watching my weight though. I think part of what makes it so delicious is copious quantities of cream and butter - but hey, it's pretty darned good.

Good Food. Great Price. Deep India is easily the cheapest Indian food in town. Also the only indian delivery in town. I did't really expect much from the look of the place The big neon signs kind of deterred me from trying it for a while now, but I'm glad I finally did. Well I got delivery. It was delivered decently fast, 40 min or so which is what i was told when i placed my order. The food was great and getting it right to my front door was awesome. I'll probably never step foot inside the place because my loyalty lies in Krishna but if I'm in the mood for some good indian food and i don't want to leave the house I'll def be hitting up some Deep India delivery.

Deep India just opened in the old Jersey Mike's place... good riddance :P I'm a huge fan of Krishna and am always looking for another restaurant to match their Saag Paneer, but haven't found one... until now. Turns out the head chef for Deep India actually helped to open Krishna. He's also worked at Cumin, and his skills in the kitchen definitely show. I ordered Saag Paneer and Garlic Nan, which came to a total of $10.50. Cheap - that's a plus! The restaurant itself is kind of plain, but there's a fair amount of seating, and I got a place by the window. One of the guys came out and gave me a lentil wafer appetizer while I was waiting, which was awesome. The paneer was AMAZING. The cheese was soft and not rubbery, it was spiced really well (I'm a weenie and always get a 2, and it was perfect), and there was a ton of food. Even the rice was well cooked. I suspect there's a LOT of butter/cream involved, which I'm totally okay with. Everything tasted amazing. I stopped by today and got a Mango Lassi, which was also really good. I looked through their menu and they've got a lot of really interesting dishes, including goat. I can't wait to go back and try more!

New favorite Indian restaurant! The staff was incredibly helpful when I asked how to make the Chicken Vindaloo at home. Garlic Nan is awesome. I usually get a 5 or 6 on the spice scale. The best part: It has orange soda!

  • Kytten M.

I love Indian food and this is the best I have found around Cincinnati that is consistently good. The Kashmiri Nan is to die for and goes well with the Chicken Korma which is a great taste at a level 6-7, lol, extra spice! Portions are big so plan to take some home with you! While the space inside is a bit small, I usually can sit at my table by the window and the people watching is prime. Close to campus so it's easy to walk to or there is a metered parking lot right around the corner that is usually not packed if you don't like fighting for street parking on this busy road. Try it, you won't be disappointed!

One of my personal favorite places to get cheap Indian food. The chicken tikka masala is great! And the portions are huge. An $8 meal will usually be enough for 2 meals for me. They also have a few tables inside that you can eat at, although I would suggest getting takeout instead because it's pretty small.

I love this place! It's a minimum $15 for delivery, and me and my boyfriend always get two chicken tikka masala's and two garlic naans. The food is delicious, very generous portions, and it comes quickly.

Very simple, unpretentious Indian fare. They serve your food in a styrofoam container or plate, there are no waiters, you just pick up your food from the counter. The food is AWESOME! Seriously amazingly good food. If you're looking for cheap, unpretentious, authentic and great Indian food, this is the place! Indian food on a college budget! ;-)

Indian Delivery....that's a thing now? Cool! Where have I been? It's cheap and the portions are huge, I get two meals out of a rice/meat meal....the naan is fresh and hot...What's not to love? They deliver to Clifton area. Chicken saag is out of this world. I've actually ordered from here probably four or five times and have only gotten that dish because it is so good!

    (4)
  • Nicholas W.

I have never been much of a fan of Indian carryout, it is so much better if you eat it right away, the naan is so much better that way as well. I used to think Krishna had better food but I'm starting to change my mind. In my mind this is the place to go, they actually have seating and the people who work there and much friendlier than than those at Krishna. It's awesome, go.

I know many people prefer that other Indian restaurant across the street; but these guys are great! The food is top notch; I usually rotate between Chicken Vindaloo, Saag Paneer, and your standard chicken tikka masala. I am a huge fan of spice; and if you ask they will make your dish just how they make it in the Punjab (HOT!). I've been given free Naan and other things while waiting if I just drop in for take-out. The workers are friendly and quick to prepare your food. Even now that I've moved out of Clifton; I still make it a point to stop by.

I love that they deliver. Great! If you're not getting it delivered, the location is kind of a pain (just in terms of parking, crowded area, busy street, etc) and dining in isn't exactly something you do for the ambiance (a couple tables and TVs with muted cable shows). I've never not enjoyed a meal from there, though I feel they sometimes are a little rougher with the spices, little less subtle than some other places. Still, I'm a big fan. I'd go Krishna before this place if you asked me to choose, but I'm glad this side of Clifton got another option.

This is my favorite Indian place. I try to go as much as possible. The naan is amazing. I usually get the lamb korma with a spice level of 3 or 4. I have tried other things as well and its all good. I wish the place was bigger but I have never had issues with finding a seat. I can not blame them for that since they are designed to be a take out type of place so I was not really expecting a dining room. The last time I went they instituted a combo. One entree, naan, and a drink for ten dollars. Awesome, I know, I know it is.

With so many Indian restaurants in this area it can be tough to decided. But you will not be upset with the food at Deep! I have ate at all the different restaurants in the Clifton area and Deep is my go to Indian food. They win on the fact that everytime you order you can be sure the food is going to hit the same quality and the most important the same spicy level. I am always upset when I order spicy food and the level varies allot. Either getting to spicy or the worst when you want spicy and the food is way to calm.

Great food. Also they have the most reasonable prices for Indian food in the Clifton area. The people that work there are very kind and actually go through your bag to make sure you have your correct order. This place is great for around 9 dollars you cab get a great chicken curry that will most definitely fill u up.

i have lived in clifton for 8 years now. I've gone to all the indian food places multiple multiple times, and would consider myself a connoisseur of (americanized) indian food in Cincinnati. I used to go to Krishna a lot, BUT seriously Deep India beats it by a mile. Deep's people are really nice. Most importantly they cook consistently the same perfect indian style rice and their dishes are consistant. Yes, Ambar is amazing, but over priced and often inconsistant with there dishes. DEEP is less expensive but quality shit. i recommend my two favorite dishes: Chicken Korma or Fish tikka. perfectly cooked every time, no joke. go to Deep over Krishna or Ambar or Apna any day. Owner is always there and sometimes even gives free side salads. It's good!! i wrote this same review on urbanspoon and Lilly D is spot the fuck on. also add, there is no buffet, and thats GREAT because they make your food fresh every time, i hate indian buffet's they suck, food just sitting out. Deep is the new spot!! i hope they're prices stay the same and they stay consistant as i mentioned before.

Deep India delivers...food.The garlic naan was fine, nothing special... a lot of garlic. The lamb biryani was flavorful (ordered mild)... chala masala (ordered med) comes with rice & had nice spice but not really flavorful. Riata was tasty but very very runny. Mango lassi OK. I ordered salty lassi but got guava & mango juice instead... hope someone expecting juice didn't get my salty lassi. The best thing I can say is they deliver to my hotel.
