I've never had food here, but the drink selection is pretty expanse and they have a nice patio for the summer. I've been here two times recently and both times, the staff was well informed on the drinks-in helping make selections in one visit, and the other being very transparent about the varying prices for different drinks. Well done.

Cock & Bull is a small chain in the Cincinnati area. I visited the Hyde Park location with a friend because I needed a bite. Makes sense, right? Cock & Bull is a British pub with some American influences (e.g., fries instead of chips, multiple television sets, etc.). In other words, it's trying to be something it's not. This place is fairly expensive. The fare here is stereotypical British fare - fish and chips (or fries), as well as a nice, cold beer to get you too drunk to realize you are spending way too much. Easily, the best thing about this place is the outdoor patio. It is absolutely massive, taking up as much space as the indoor portion of the restaurant does. Hyde Park in general is a great place to people watch, but this place is the best place to creepily stare at passerbyers. Service here is sufficient. However, the service here was eclipsed by the size of the portions and the cost of everything. If you are looking for drinks, you would be better off going to someplace in Oakley. However, if you are looking for British food, this is as good as you are going to get in Porkopolis.

This place is alright. It reminded me of an overpriced sports bar rather than an authentic British pub. Things seem to be hit and miss. The hot pretzel appetizers were great but the beer cheese is less so. Their fish from their fish and chips is actually extremely bland but their chips are really good (actual chips, not fries). Beer selection is ok - they do have British brands on tap but I feel they are expensive. The service was fine.

This place is nowhere near as cool or fun or personable as the Covington version. It seems like a Perkin's restaurant with rude staff... And beers are way too expensive!

Cock and bull is dog friendly on patio. So refreshing!! Food is excellent, staff wonderful and atmosphere lovely. May become a favorite place to dine on the inexpensive side too. What is not to like? :)

We have had better. Bangers and Mash were ok, the only problem is they are talking back to me since lunch. :( My partner had Fish and Chips, he's had better. (Fries came out raw) :( Partner's Mom had BLT sandwich and chips. She said the sandwich was fine......that is her way of saying, "Not good." She did not like the chips, she said they were greasy. We tried dessert: Carrot cake and Chocolate cake were ice cold and dry. The place would do itself justice if they warmed the cake briefly before serving. We will probably never return do to the fact that when we come up from Florida to visit the home place there are to many places to go. We always have to visit all of the old haunts from growing up. Give them a try you might like them. UPDATE next morning: The Bangers banged my stomach all night. :( NEVER again! What a horrible night.

The Cock & Bull will always be a soft spot for my wife and I, as she claims the Covington location was the site of our first date. We were happy to see a new location open in Hyde Park around the same time that we moved into the neighborhood. When a friend of ours was in town recently to see our new place we all agreed to head up to this new location and check it out. They have a great patio out front, but the weather was a little too warm for us and so we opted for a table inside. We visited on a Tuesday evening and found no wait for a table. The inside of the restaurant is actually very large too. The front room appeared to seat a healthy number of people, but there are even more seats in an additional back room, which is where we were seated. To go along with the large space they also have a large offering of beer, nearly 60 taps are dedicated to various craft and macro beers from both the US and overseas. It's a pretty impressive lineup overall. To start off my meal I went with a cup of the Five Onion Soup. The menu says it isn't French onion soup, but it sure looks like it and tastes like it too. It was a great combination of different onions and it was topped with a large amount of melted provolone. My visit was off to a good start. For my meal I chose the chicken teriyaki wrap with a side of macaroni & cheese. Unfortunately the wrap was not as good as the soup that I started with. The chicken was good, but was easily overpowered by the large amount of salad mix. The menu said that the teriyaki chicken and provolone mix would be accompanied by lettuce and red onion, but it appears they took the easier route and just used a generic salad mix instead. I think if this were replaced by some better quality lettuce and fresh onion it could have been much better. The macaroni & cheese was good, not outstanding, but next to the wrap I enjoyed it a lot. My wife went with the "lightweight" fish and chips, which is an 8 oz portion of their famous hand cut fillets of icelandic cod, deep fried to a golden brown, served on a bed of seasoned fries. She was happy with her choice, and even this smaller serving of the dish was a lot of food. Obviously this is a popular dish at the English style pub and I saw many plates of it being delivered to hungry customers throughout the restaurant. Our friend had the veggie wrap with grilled eggplant, zucchini, mushroom, goat cheese, and spinach wrapped in a tortilla and served with balsamic mayo. She seemed happy with her meal as well. So I must have just made a bad decision. I wouldn't say that any of the food was outstanding, but the restaurant is new and they are likely still figuring things out. I'm sure we will be back in the future and I hope for some improvements. It is still worth a visit, as is, for the beer selection and atmosphere alone.

This restaurant is so, so good! I'm a vegetarian, and any place that has a really good veggie burger gets an automatic thumbs up. Even if you're not a vegetarian, the black bean burger here is magnificent. Their fries are also quite good. (They must be battered in something delicious.) Definitely coming here again.

Would love to rate this place higher due to the great beer selection. Tons of beer on tap and great imports. The food is downright terrible, I ordered a wrap and it looked like it was rolled by a four year old. Also this place has constantly reeked of puke since I first walked in the doors eight years ago.

I came here late on a Monday night. The waitress was not friendly and had a hard time hearing us for some reason (it wasn't loud or anything). Anyway, the food was decent. I definitely recommend their deep-fried soft pretzels but their fish and chips weren't all that great. With so many other pubs in the area, I'll probably not be coming back to this one.

I think people love to hate this place - everyone's complaining about the price of food / beer or the way people other people were dressed. You're in the yuppiest part of HP. If a one bedroom apartment in the area costs 1400 bucks, they can get away with 8 dollar appetizers and 5 dollar beers. And you should probably expect a few J.Crew catalog models. On my visit, the place was almost full but we had our choice of patio space or great indoor seats with TV's to watch the game. The beer selection was better than 90% of cincy bars, and the beer cheese pretzels were awesome. My dad got the deep fried meat wrap and it was delicious. Minus two stars for the waitress talking up their (really gross) pizza, and taking longer than 10 minutes to get us a beer. Plus one star for having the Cardinals game on every TV.

Cock & Bull Covington, KY YES.. Cock & Bull Hyde Park should have never opened. Mediocre food, slow service, etc. This cafeteria is annoyingly loud with bad noice. Big disappointment ..

I'm a fan of any place that has a enuendo name... but once I'm inside, it has to live up to it. This place did! Strongbow on tap? I'm in heaven! The fish n' chips were good. Fish: good flavor and not too greasy. Chips: can take 'em or leave 'em. Not awesome just normal. The upstairs has hightops, full bar, and sometimes music. Patio looked like nice (not in the cold winter rain, tho... so we skipped it). Only downside: the trains going by (although cool) are super close (neat!) and therefore super loud (not neat). We just stopped our cover each time one passed (3 in the 1hr we were there). Besides that, a revisit is in order if I'm out that way again. :o) good beer specials. Cheers!

I go here a lot for take out because my son absolutely LOVES the Bavarian pretzels they have. The food really is quite good, and their burgers, while not the best in town (I'm partial to Arthur's) are really good. I suggest ordering one on an English muffin with bleu cheese and caramelized onions. The beer selection is clearly the best thing about this place. There are lots of really great beers you won't find at most places. I have one problems with this place. First, the diners are often a little loud and obnoxious. There's quite a stench of the look-at-me-drinking-this-awesome-beer in the air. If you're a beer (and/or pretzel) fan, and don't mind being a little nauseated by machismo, give this place a try. If you want an amazing burger, great drinks, and a pitch-perfect atmosphere, go to Aurthur's instead.

Dined here last night with my husband. He loved the extensive beer list. I loved that they had Summer Shandy on tap. We started with the Crisps, served with BBQ sauce, yummy. I had the buffalo chicken salad and my husband had the buffalo chicken wrap. I asked how spicy the entree would be and was told it was mild. It was definitely a little more then mild. I chugged a glass of water in an instant. Small problem was that my food was wrong at first. I ordered a salad, was brought out a wrap. I asked for ranch, was brought bleu cheese. Nothing that couldnt be easily fixed. Enjoyed sitting on the patio and will definitely be back.

Last night my boyfriend and I decided to go out to eat so we thought we would try out Cock and Bull. The moment we walked through the front door the first thing we saw was the hostess stand, the hostess was leaning up against the hostess stand carrying on a conversation with a server, she looked at me annoyed and continued her conversation for a moment then asked rudely "How many?". She sat us right next to the front door and the hostess stand on one of the hottest days this summer. About five minutes later two servers approached our table, one of them introduced herself and let us know that she was training the other. We immediately ordered two glasses of water and an appetizer, chips and beer cheese dip. The dip was at our table before our waters, the chips tasted like they were a year old and the beer cheese wasn't far from tasting like Tostitos Nacho Cheese Dip. We showed up starving and we both hate to complain so we ate it anyway. After we finished the dip which took us approximately 10 minutes, we waited. After another 7 or so minutes pass as we are looking around hungry our server stops by and grabs our appetizer plate, says nothing and leaves. During this waiting period I observed the host who clearly hates her job leaning up against the hostess stand with a scowl on her face, never smiling for anyone who would walk through the front door. Finally the buss boy brought us our food, a hamburger and a fish sandwich, both were delicious! Our server and her trainee stopped by 5 minutes after we got our food to ask if everything was okay, we said yes and asked for water refills. We were nearly finished with our meals by the time they stopped by with the water pitcher. As we were finishing our dinner the host and our server were clearing off the table behind us bad mouthing the trainee loudly which was uncomfortable for me to overhear. Finally we are both done eating and the server and host are now at the host stand, our server's back is to us and they are both gabbing away. Of course the host sees we are done but she could care less. A lifetime later the server turns around and asks us how we were doing, immediately we ask for the check and that was the fastest we saw her work all night, she cashed us out in about 2 minutes. As we left the host barely muttered "have a good night" and we left. Moral of the story, THIS PLACE HAS HORRIBLE SERVICE and it will stay that way when they have the worst server training a new one!

We're at Cock & Bull at least once a week, mainly due to their vast selection of beers on tap. Always great to try something new and they also do blends. Foodwise I would recommend Bangers & Mash, Mac & Cheese, and their burgers. All have been consistantly good. The pretzels are awesome as well. The bartenders are always great. My only suggestions would be to dim the lights a little in there and pay more attention to music (too quiet).

The second I walked into this place, I knew it wasn't for me. After reading the reviews, I'm glad I didn't try the food! We came here on a Friday night, and I felt we had just stepped into a country club gathering. I am not exaggerating when I say that 3/4 of the men in this establishment were wearing pastel colored polos. Good lord. The bartenders were clearly overwhelmed, so no points off for service. I will never come back here as I can never imagine myself talking to or wanting to be friends with any of the people that haunt this joint. If I was a more devious and daring I might even try to change the "u" in bull to an "a" and add an "s" to the sign and just because I hate this place that much....

I will second or third or possibly fourth all the others when I say that from the outside and their patio, it looks great! You clearly are expecting a fun pub experience, unfortunately that is not the case. The decor is seriously lacking in the interior and the space was very cut up with different rooms, hallways, and eating areas all separate, so the vibe is very off! You want to be laughing jovially with other bar patrons at a pub, but the seating layout does not give you that opportunity. The fish and chips were also not very good. They had a breadcrumb outer layer as opposed to a beer battered cod that I have come to expect at pubs and the coleslaw and fries were more bland and mediocre. Not one to write negative reviews too often, I will say that I had one of the best beers here, Franziskanere Hefe. I even wrote it down, it was so good! And the bartender was amazing and gave great service, recommendations, and made the mediocre lunch much better!! So extra points for great beer selection and service!

New location in Hyde Park is the place to see and be seen in Cincinnati this summer, except by the waitstaff, who are clearly overwhelmed by the crush of Cincinnati's young professionals appetite for a new go to place with outside seating since the demise of Hyde Park Tavern. Overall, impressive beer selection, food is just fine for bar food, and the staff was apologetic for the missteps. Once (if?) they get food service outside, this place will be unstoppable .

  • Pat K.

Great looking exterior. Gives the impression that it is going to be a great pub experience. That quickly changes once inside. Walls are white. Interior is bland and very segmented creating zero ambience. No music in background and the clarity of other guests asking for their checks resonates- turn back now. Fortunately the 59 beer taps suckered me in. A great beer selection for sure! Bartender was great too! She was worth the 30% tip we left. Read her guest well and responded perfectly. She is a 4-5 star bartender. Nothing else positive to comment on so will leave it up to chance whether it's worth your money or not.

To call the Cock and Bull a pub is dubious at best, and an insult to pub-goers of all persuasions. The interior is reminiscent of a an Americanized sports bar, complete with fragmented seating and a piss-poor excuse for a bar. The selection of beer and spirits is respectable, but insufficient to redeem the Cock and Bull and elevate it above the veritable sea of mediocrity that is Cincinnati nightlife. I found the waitstaff rude and unresponsive. After waiting a good fifteen minutes on the patio for someone to kindly take my money, I ultimately succumbed to my unquenchable thirst and simply ordered a drink from the bar myself (which was promptly removed from my hand upon returning to the sorry excuse afterthought of an outdoor patio; I'm assuming this is due to some asinine interpretation of a liquor law). Furthermore, upon finishing my libation, my glass remained as empty and unfulfilled as I was when I discovered the comedic farce that is the Cock and Bull "Pub".

This place was just okay. For a pub the fish n' chips are deffinitely not my favorite at all. And the portion was not that large for the price that you pay for it. The atmosphere is pretty nice here a lot of seating and a lot of beer selection. They have prime location too!

  • Sarah A.

I was meeting friends and told to come here, I didn't have a chance to consult Yelp and read the review. Boy am I wishing I could have saved all of us from the food. Atmosphere The patios are awesome which is the reason for the two stars. I particularly like the one in the back, it is quiet and away from onlookers. The front patio had a band playing that was entirely too loud. If I had been dining a few doors up on the patio at Indigo I would have been totally annoyed. Food The fish and chips was the worst I have ever had, pretty much inedible and I was starving! Our server said their chips were like steak fries and they resembled nothing of the sort. For starters we had bruschetta which they interpreted to be a few pieces of bread on the side of sliced tomatoes, mozzarella, and whole basil leaves drizzled in balsamic. The Hanky Panky appetizer was OK but I would have liked to see that served with rye or pumpernickel bread pieces as opposed to tortilla chips, it just didn't work for me. Conclusion If you are looking for a great place to sit outside and enjoy a beverage I think Cock & Bull works but I'd go somewhere else for the food.

  • Carlee T.

The best thing about Cock & Bull is their patio right on Hyde Park Square. Makes for great people watching! We love to bring our dog, and the servers love it when we do. The food is decent, but overpriced. The best deal is the happy hour special on their pretzel/cheese dip and nachos until 7pm. I have heard their fish and chips are great, but I haven't had a chance to try them. Good beer selection, but also fairly overpriced.

  • Channing N.

Try the beer cheese and pretzels and their beers - keep in mind before ordering the buffalo chicken quesadilla there are carrots and celery in it- I was not impressed it was like a stew!

It's Hyde Park and it feels like you're in Hyde Park. Mediocre food, slow service, annoying crowd, etc. And who designed the men's room? Nothing like having a door slam into your back while attempting to dry your hands. Avoid... unless, of course, you like Hyde Park. There is a great beer selection but drinking it there is a miserable experience.

***Quite surprised and very happy to hear from someone that works at Cock & Bull who seems to care very much about their establishment. I have also since gone back, though only to have some drinks with friends (it was a bit late for food). I'm still hesitant on whether or not I will ever have the Fish and Chips again, but I may be willing to give the place another shot. We showed up for a dinner with family from out of town a few weekends ago. The outdoor patio was very crowded, and we were hungry so we just took the first available and were seated in 10 mins. That's probably the extent of the good things I have to say. The fish & chips (the cock's cod) was atrocious, not only did it lack a good taste, but it also over-cooked. The breading was bland and it overall had a taste like it came right out of a frozen box. I remember fish sticks we had for lunch in grade school tasted better (and for a whole lot less). I struggled to finish half of my plate because it was so awful. Add to that the poor service from quite possibly one of the dumbest servers, and I'm pretty confident I won't return.

I have no idea what all the hate here for Cock and Bull is. Ok, its a chain and that may be what is dragging down the stars, but compared to the rest of hyde park offerings this place is pretty great. Their menu, as to be expected, is limited to bar foods. However, these bar foods are done exceptionally well. Their fish and chips are fresh and delicious with healthy servings. Their salads are across the board incredible, and their wings are pretty darn delicious. Most importantly, they have a RIDICULOUS selection of beer. Not just tellers level of, lets throw some rare beers and popular beers in other regions that are cheap but since we got them we will make them expensive prices to make a beer list. No, this list is put together by someone that loves beer. It has beer to suit anyones needs from local beers, to great regional breweries, obviously with a heavy midwest leaning. They hit every major beer type with something representing a rare group, popular group, and cheap choice. It doesn't get much better than that. Finally, for all you beer lovers out there. When zombie dust came out, they had it on tap every day for months. Seriously, months. Where else can you find this? I know in Chicago most bars sold out within hours on the DAY hey tapped their kegs. This place is a hidden beer lovers paradise.

I have been here in several times and I've always received very poor service. They don't have enough waitstaff for the amount of patrons. Several times we sat down and had to leave because it's been over 20 minutes and no one had come to our table It seems that female patronsreceive particularly poor service in comparison to the male patrons.

So I was looking forward to a new bar in Hyde Park Square - the location was great and I assume that any restaurant or bar coming in would be motivated to start out with a bang. The place looks alright from the outside and in, but in reality it is a little too small and sectioned off. The inside needs a more expanded open area for guests to mingle. My group was seated in the back room, so it felt like a private restaurant instead of a social club or pub. The menu had a pretty decent selection of food and beer so I ordered a burger and a Dogfish Head 90-Minute IPA. The food wasn't the best - mainly because my burger was burnt. The fries were quite good however, and our server was very nice. My only other complaint is the prices. I know we are in one of the better neighborhoods in Cincinnati at a brand new bar, but $8 for a commonly stocked draft beer? That's a little steep even for yuppies. I think next time I'll stick with Nicholsons.

We went here twice before ever actually trying the food, simply because it's close (closer than the Covington one, which we had also only drank at) and they serve a few beers/ciders that we like. Their selection is pretty good - having lambic on tap is always a plus for me, but the bartenders seemed really weird about serving us a 9 dollar drink, and I couldn't tell if they were explaining this to us because they thought we were just oblivious or poor. Either way, it was just awkward. I usually end up sticking with Strongbow, but the two times I have tried to order a bottle, they have been out of it. That being said, we still end up coming here fairly often because it's the closest place to our home with Strongbow on tap. The service is just normal. Sometimes it takes forever, we've had food come out before drinks, and sometimes getting a second round is just impossible. We tend to sit outside because the inside can be loud, making it hard to hear each other. Plus, the location on the corner gives a nice view of the square. I don't really come here for service, that being said. We decided to try the food finally one night, and I can say we were unimpressed. We ordered the beer cheese first, and were surprised to get some mediocre nacho cheese dip that tasted like the Tostitos jar stuff. I ordered the five onion soup and my husband had the fish and chips. The soup was okay - it's not the worst I have had but definitely not the best. It was just "meh." The fish and chips were our least favorite we've had. The breading was bland, and the fish wasn't of good quality. I decided to try and put some malt vinegar on it to make it a bit better, but it took our waiter 10 minutes to notice us, then awhile after to get us some. We decided to give it another try later, and ended up getting the pretzels with the beer cheese (it's not beer cheese it's nacho cheese). The pretzels were good - they came out hot and were good even without the cheese. This time we split a burger, and we'd never get one again. Meat was mediocre at best, not really seasoned or flavorful, and we didn't finish it. We decided to only get pretzels if we ever came back and not eat there ever again. Well, went back. Got the pretzels out before our drinks, and the cheese had a thick film on it as it must have been sitting out and the food was not hot. Never getting food here again, it just keeps going down. All that being said, we'll probably end up back here because they are close and have beers we like.

I've been here twice for happy hour with friends had a great time. The waitstaff are always nice, and they have an awesome beer selection. The prices would be reasonable for any other city in the country, but Cincy does have a lot of good, and dirt cheap food options, which is probably what's leading to the complaints about the cost. The food is nothing to write home about with the exception of the beer cheese dip and soft pretzel sticks. These are a must for any cheese lover.

  • Mike C.

Three stars just for the big beer selection, although I will probably rate everything else as a two star. I agree with the other reviewers about the prices. I think they're overpriced for the quality of food they have. I would probably go to Teller's for a little higher quality or to Arthur's for a more laid back atmosphere. Service took forever too. Our waitress did check on us often, but it just took forever for her to bring the drinks. They say they have ESPN gameplan, so I may be back to catch a game that I wouldn't be able to see at home. Otherwise, I'll probably pass on coming back again.

I was in Cincinnati for Christmas and stopped in for lunch and a few drinks. They have an amazing beer selection with 50-60 beers on tap. Food was good and the staff was really friendly. I am sure this place is great in the summer with the patio out front. If I lived in Cincy this would definitely be one of my top spots.

Man, these guys before me sure don't know how to apply a learning curve to a restaurant. Staff is going to cycle until you get the crew that you can work with, at least there's a lot of them, give em a chance, and encourage the ones you like. The ones you don't will soon be gone. As far as fish and chips goes, I actually enjoy theirs, its not as greasy as other fish and chips I've had, including rookwood. yes, you can now eat in their patios, and yes, dudes with bowties still hang here, but the atmosphere is relaxed, the people watching is great, and besides, it's summer, pastels are in... you like drab colors, wait til fall. I haven't been to England in 16 years, so I will need some help to judge the authenticity of their chow.

  • Madeleine E.

Very relaxed and welcoming. Good for kids and not too hard to find something slightly healthy on the menu. The pretzel appetizer was fantastic. The chips were perfectly crispy. The french onion soup was pretty bland and the shrimp bisque was way too thick. The Buffalo chicken salad and beet salad were okay. I wouldn't say this was a great restaurant, but everything was fine. Great selection of beers. Other than the decor, I didn't feel the English Pub thing; was more like American food with British names.

I was hoping that this was the case when we went last night and sat outside. The first five beers we tried to order were not in stock. The server came back and said...this menu must be old, i cant tell.

i work around the corner from this location and our store will not order from them anymore. the service is AWFUL, every time we place and order and go to pick it up you are waiting for someone to even acknowledge your there for probably 5 minuets. The food is just average asked for pickles and extra cheese and no pickles and charged me for extra cheese but it wasn't given. would rather drive to the covington location!

Went back not even a week later to give C&B another shot and to watch the bowl game. Service was much better--even when the place pretty full. Again the beers were great. We love Mojo on Nitro. Only problem was the price. I mean, we're rich as shit, and we even thought that $7.50 for 3 pretzel sticks was a little high. And the reuben sandwich was over priced for just a normal reuben. This place is still very popular because of its location.

This is purely a beer review. Cock & Bull has a lot of beer choices, and on Thursdays is pint night! You get a free glass for however many beers you purchase. They also have a frequent beer purchasing program card where they keep track of how many beers you buy and they give you free crap like dinner, clothes, etc. Submerge yourself in alcohol and they'll enshrine you in their wall of foam. It's got to be draft beer and not bottled. Their food doesn't look all that great, but I ate at the Cock & Bull in Covington and remember it tasting ok.

This variation of the Cock & Bull ("CB") from outside appearances looks great with a new patio replacing the prior Vineyard Cafe's. It has the perfect strategic corner location in Hyde Park Square... and that's the good part. Yes, the beer selection is great though in reality you can find almost the same at most of the other UK themed pubs i.e. The Pub at Rookwood or Nicholson's. Even Dutch's beer menu can compete here. The bar itself is rather small and not great for mingling. Upon their grand opening, the CB posted large signs that stated "Patio is for cocktails only - Full menu service available inside". Huge mistake! Every Hyde Park resident laughed - they want to be able to be seen and eat with drinks secondary. Even though the signs have gone away, most nearby residents think the policy is still in effect. Service was rough at best and I am giving extra credit to the staff for dealing with larger crowds during good weather. Don't expect a follow up to your meal and budget time to procure your check. Food: Fish & Chips = worse than frozen food. We all know the Pommies (Brits) are not known for their food, but don't make it worse. Three bites and the rest to the garbage bin. If you like Q102 and are under 25, you'll fail to notice this CB locations shortcomings, otherwise Indigo's next door or Arthur's across the way provide a much better HP dining experience. If you are looking to experience the CB, go to the Covington location instead. Very sad they did not execute a better plan with this location!

The beer selection was great and they have a fun beer sampler where you pick four beers to try. It is a fun place to go but only if you have plenty of time if you plan on sitting down to eat. The service was not wonderful, and I didn't love the reuben. It wasn't very traditional.

alas! the feaux-british pub! haven't eaten here, but enjoyed the atmosphere. i was there to speak to a gorup of 5/3 YP folks and it was a nice environment. the staff was real friendly and the drinks were good. i've eaten at the mainstrasse one and really like it. i also like the bar atmosphere better than this feaux-british thingy. all in all, not too shabby.

  • David K.

After reading the reviews why would you bother? Let's see, I ate out side, server was awesome, pretzel and beer cheese was killer, the Mainstrasse Reuben was to die for, and this beer selection is very impressive. People on yelp vent or nitpick too much(probably because they suck). Or all your reading is the trial and errors of a brand new restaurant/bar getting its feet wet. Please dine elsewhere negative nancy's :)

I really like the Hyde Park Cock & Bull's Thursday Pint Night. They bring in a specialty brew they never carry and you get to keep the brewery's glass. They also have a pretty good selection of beers on tap and the food is good too. Great for groups and happy hour after work. They also have a lot of TVs that show whatever sporting event is popular at the time.

I ate here for the first time. I was excited for a new place in a great location on the square. First, if you are going to call yourself an English pub, you better be able to present a good fish and chips. It was probably the worst example of this classic I have ever tasted. In fact, I am certain the entire meal was baked in an oven. The rest of the menu looked so-so. The interior is unremarkable. If you want good British pub food, go to The Pub in Rookwood.

Soft pretzels and beer cheese. Nothing else was standouts, but those pretzels are RIDICULOUS.

  • Jeni S.

The food is just OK- overpriced for what you pay for it. The location is good, but parking can be difficult at times. Beware Thursday "Half Priced Appetizer" night. This only includes three appetizers on the menu, which the server did not tell us. The beer selection is good. Overall, the place is overpriced and overrated for what it is. I am a big fan of the Covington location, though. Food and service are much better there.

Cock & Bull has a great outside patio that is wonderful for relaxing on a beautiful Sunday afternoon (which my friends and I took full advantage of). Besides this, I can't say I was impressed. I ordered the fish sandwich which was regarded as a house specialty on the menu. A problem I have run into at many restaurants in Cincinnati is the poor quality of the fish, and Cock & Bull was no different. Whereas the cod should have been light and flaky, it was actually rubbery and tough (I assume the fish n chips have a similar issue, reading other reviews). The fries were good, and my friends both had the nachos which they seemed to enjoy. I may give it another chance to try a non-fish entree.

So much promise, yet falls short every time. Food is expensive, very loud even when it's not crowded. Staff is very nice but needs some good quality training. Bartenders need to learn to pour a proper Guinness.

Never been here for breakfast before, but definitely coming again! Such good eggs Benedict and awesome Bloody Mary bar.

What can I say about the Cock & Bull? I can tell you they have a lot of beers on tap, and some stuff that you're not going to find (or beat) unless you go down the street to Dutch's (yep, this outranks Teller's selection in my book: Chimay on tap). I can tell you that I've had better service from the drink servers than the food servers, I can tell you the food is mediocre and I can tell you that this place will thrive in spite of itself. Every time I've been there (probably a half dozen times now) it's been crowded (like wall to wall) and that is a big place. It's a fun atmosphere and I can only recommend it if you're a beer snob like myself, don't for for the food, but if you want a beer with your buddies, you could do worse.

We came here on the second night after the grand opening and waited nearly an hour for outdoor seating, but when our table opened we were told they had just run out of food. Since we hadn't had dinner and were starving, we left. Now it appears they aren't serving dinner on the patio at all. I'd be more forgiving if this was a freshman effort, but it's the third version of this restaurant to open, you'd think they had a few things figured out. I've been really excited for C&B to open here, but my first impression is big disappointment.

Stopped in for lunch and ordered a small Fish and Chips and a pint of beer. Didn't realize until I got home and double checked the bill that they charged me for a 20 oz. and a medium fish and chips. So, my $12 lunch turned into $20. I'm pretty sure it was intentional. I contacted them to get it resolved and heard nothing. Great beer selection, mediocre food. They say their fish and chips is "award winning". Which award, Mrs. Paul's Fishsticks? The fish is chopped up, processed fish cakes, not a whole piece of tender fish. It is the consistency of frozen fish cakes and a step above Filet of Fish. Lame. And the "chips" are some sort of wimpy, not-quite-beer battered limp fry. They are edible, but not a pub "chip" at all. Lame, lame, lame. If you want to go for the beer, check your bill carefully and drink up. I would not recommend the food. There are plenty of other better pubs in town, if you don't want to get overcharged for mediocre food, I suggest you try one of the others. I won't be going back. Update 5/19 - I did indeed get contacted by the restaurant. For some reason, I didn't get the first email and thought they were ignoring me. But they sent a very nice follow up email. My fault for not responding to the second one promptly. Nice of them to contact me, still trying to get it resolved. I think the emails are going into spam because of the restaurant name. Anyway, pleased that they are at least trying to make it right.

I have to agree with most of the reviews so far. I waited a couple weeks to eat here even though i live in the neighborhood. I wanted to make sure that they had time to get the kinks out of a new opening. Unfortunately it did not help the fish and chips. My friend and I each ordered them and neither of us finished them (and we had the "lightweight version", read smaller). They were horrendously bad. Literally, they tasted and looked like the fish sticks you got in school only bigger. The chips tasted like they had freezer burn. One of most interesting conversations I had was with waitress when ordering. I asked for the "fish and chips" and she asked me if I wanted "fries or chips with that." I said I wanted chips as in the name unless she meant potato chips...which she did! One would think that fish and chips meant cut fries but I guess not here! Go to the Pub in Rookwood if you want good fish and chips! If you want this version go to Long John Silver's and save some money!

Considering the competition surrounding the neighborhood, I've decided to up my rating by one star after revisiting the patio for lunch. Selection of beer is fair. The fish and chips are not beer battered and I prefer a nice batter. It was a hot Wednesday afternoon, but the staff was pretty prompt and attentive. I do love the pretzels, but that's it for now.

  • Stephanie P.

OK, so after reading the reviews about this new location, I was pretty hesitant. But really, it's not that bad. I've been to Hyde Park location twice now and although they are still working out a few kinks, I was pretty happy with both of my visits. I sat inside both times (I've heard crazy things about them not serving food on the patio?), one time at the bar and another at a booth. Definitely had more fun at the bar. Great beer selection and half priced appetizers during happy hour. Only a few appetizers are half priced (con) but the pretzels are like the greatest things ever. Seriously, addictive. Not a fan of the quesadillas, but hey, you win some and you lose some. I tried the burger on my second visit, and it definitely wasn't anything special. My boyfriend got the fish sandwich and it was pretty good. Once again, the good and the bad. I'll definitely frequent the location for happy hour-- great crowd, good deals and awesome selection.

First a disclaimer - I've got high standards for Irish or British style pubs. The Cock & Bull looked good on first pass. A busy outdoor patio out front with people enjoying a summer evening. Once inside, it lost its appeal, as the decor appeared contrived and felt more like a chain restaurant (think TGI Fridays) than a British pub. A friendly bartender (from Brooklyn, no less !) and a good beer selection compensated somewhat for the atmosphere. But lets be honest - most good pubs will have good barstaff and a decent drinks selection. We had dinner on the back patio. The service was poor. The waiter was not familiar with the menue and the service was very slow. The food itself was bland, basic, not really British pub style (just having fish and chips doesn't cut it !!!) and pretty expensive for what you get. Overall, this is a place feels more like a chain sports bar and not at all like a British pub. It's fine to stop in and have a beer. Just like so many other bars. Don't get your hopes up. I give it 12 months.

The chicken salad was phenomenal. Actual big pieces of grilled chicken. We splurged and got the bar fries which were fried to perfection. Overall service was great. The food came out quick and was fresh and hot.

Oh Cock and Bull. I have such mixed feelings about you. Living in Hyde Park this is the best 'sports bar' in the square and therefore a convenient place to frequently meet up. Pros: Awesome beer list. Tons of local beers and specials, such as Tuesday flight night and Thursday pint night (you get to take the pint glass home for the beer of the night). Also, frequent tap takeovers are fun and expand your horizons. Huge patio with big umbrellas, perfect for summer days and nights. Fun, sometimes rowdy atmosphere especially during games. Soccer games especially are their forte. Plenty of TVs in the main bar. BLOODY MARY BAR! Food: I typically enjoy the food. The beer cheese and pretzels is to die for and other apps are fine. The happy hour specials from 4-7 M-F are also great. The salads are huge and tasty as well. I've seen bad food come out of the kitchen, so I think it really depends on the night and who is behind the range. Cons: The service is typically pretty slow. Last night our waitress never showed up, we flagged down another waiter (who was very nice and took our drink order and checked up on us) but it took another manager to get the waitress to show up, without any apology or explanation. Total WTF. However the food came out on time. If you want a quiet secluded spot I probably would try Tellers or Arthur's nearby.

Let me start by saying the Cock & Bull in Hyde Park has AAAAMAZING customer service. Our food was taking a long time to come and a couple that came in after us received their food before us, so we received our entire meal for only 1/2 price. Instead of a $40 meal we only paid $20 .. WIN!! Now onto the food. We started lunch off with the Banger Dip. It was really good! It's basically rotel dip. Next I had the baked Cod with steamed veggies and red skinned mashed potatoes. The fish was overlooked so it wasn't that good but the veggies and potatoes were good. My husband had the Tuscan Chicken Sandwich with French Fries. He said the sandwich was good and it came on a pretzel bun that was good. I tasted the fries and they were good as well.

  • Jason W.

I'll start with the positives: 1. The beer list And the not so good: 2. Apparently they serve "food" here. Please see attached photos per evidence. I'm still uncertain we were given any. Heavily oiled spinach "dip" with heavily oiled "chips". My daughter could not eat her mac and cheese that looked straight from Fukushima. Notice the neon orange coloring. Overcooked Fish looking substance drowned in a Twinkie like sleeping bag covering. Strangely tasted of a gigantic oversized state fair mozzarella stick coating. Holy lord for the love of God. And beautifully chilled French fries straight from the kitchen. The kitchen of Ore-Ida. Devoid of all taste as any flash fried at the factory tater is! The waitress asked if a box was needed. We noted something as disgusting as our meal should be gift packaged with a bow I suppose. No response. She's probably heard it before. Avoid at all costs for food. Although HP isn't really killing it these days with options. God speed yelpers.

Slow service, mostly empty bar, the bartender was more interested in talking to her friends than tending bar, pub crisps tasted like dust. Lots of great beers, mediocre food, again super slow service bordering on being ignored.

Aww man we were so expecting to have a good experience here but we didn't : ( We waited an hour for a table then we got sat outside. That was the best part. Great location. However, some of the crowd was just wild there and this was during the day. There was a table of guys that were drinking beer and spitting it on each other and coughing beer everywhere. Then behind us was a group of drunk women that were so loud we couldn't hear each other talk. (I know that this isn't the restaurant's fault but I'm just informing.) Then we only ordered salads and we waited for over an hour for them. And the salads were not good. My boyfriend didn't even finish his and he was starving. Our server was sweet, but that's about it. The host at the front seemed so unhappy to be at work or maybe he was high? Honestly, he just seemed in a completely different place and did not care how he looked to others. We were so disappointed! We would have been fine waiting a total of 2.2 hours for food as long as it was good food. We won't be back unfortunately.

3* is probably generous for this place, although we seem to come here more frequently than I'd like. We swung by the other weekend for some Lenten fish & chips. Truthfully, for a place specializing in such a dish, I was expecting more. I was hoping for some nice, beer-battered fish, but this had more of the from-the-freezer-case fish stick type breading. On top of that, the waitress forgot the sides for our entire table and the tartar sauce (only the most important part!) Beer selection is good, though I'm not a huge beer drinker, but they have some alright mixed drinks as well. Not the cheapest drink menu, but at least there's a selection. The patio is nice- when you can get a seat- and dog friendly, so we'll likely be back once it starts to warm up.

I drive by and this place is seems to often be packed. It seems to be popular more because of its location than because of the food. It's a great location right on the edge of Hyde Park Square. The food sounded great, but me and everyone else at the table thought the food was rather bland and thus disappointing. It would be wonderful if the quality of the food could be brought up to par with the quality of the location. Additionally, the place was not busy during our visit, but it was 20-30 minutes before the waitress took our order. It was about that same amount of time before she brought our check after we finished eating and then again before she brought back our payments and receipts.

  • Alexander D.

The food is good and the ambiance is very pub like. I have not sat outside but the inside is nice with a back room that is kind of hidden. I got a regular draft beer and burger but nothing exceptional stood out to me however I will have to try the patio.

Plenty of beer, and a special each week night! Don't miss out on the pretzels with beer cheese. The Fish and Chips are pretty good, but have a breadcrumb coating/batter. Reason for the 2 stars is that the fish isn't all that flavorful. I guess I just prefer other pubs' fish and chips. Also, the last time I came in was a weeknight evening. My companion and I sat at the bar, and it was pretty hard to get the bartender's attention/time. Great ambiance, and again, selection of beers is awesome! I'll probably be back for the pub feel. They also have a bunch of TVs all over the place, so it's a great place to catch the game.

Great spot for trivia night, Tuesdays. Fish and chips was surprisingly amazing. The bread on the fish was flavorful, and the fish tasted fresh. They have a lot of beers on tap too. Cool spot overall.

I've been to the Cock & Bull for lunch and several times for drinks. They have a really good beer menu. The service was decent but a little slow. I've had the Buffalo Chicken Wrap which was just alright. The food overall is about 2.5-3/5. I'd recommend Cock & Bull for drinks or a place to watch a sporting event, but if you are in the mood for food I think there are better places.

  • Katie K.

Yes, great beer selection but disgusting food and very poor service. We have been here a few times, never too impressed but never this disgusted and angry about actually paying for such a horrible experience. The buffalo chicken sandwich was dry and under seasoned, we needed to ask for extra sauce. The chicken patty itself was very small. The veggie wrap was a few leaves of spinach and canned mushrooms? The spinach and artichoke dip tasted like melted cream cheese/sour cream with frozen spinach. That was our entire order, barely edible. How can you screw up bar food and then charge people $60??? The waitress was slow and forgetful. We requested two side sauces when ordering the food and they were not brought out until we requested them a second time. We also had to request for the check twice. We had no silverware or napkins, we ended up looking around for napkins. The hostess had no idea when happy ended. We were not frequently checked on by the server and were made to wait frequently. Avoid this place at all costs. There are too many other great restaurants around town... Don't waste your time or money at this place.

This review is for the Hyde Park store. Awful service, although the server was nice, she was terrible. There were five in our party, she took drink orders for one side of the booth and left??? We then waited, received our drinks and that's when she took the rest of the booths order! She then brought the wrong drinks out to them once they waited quite a bit, and I was already finished with my beer. And, no the place wasn't busy! The menu did look good, but we didn't eat for fear of the service, and the beer selection is terrific. Next time I'll head to a different location because the food did look good.

    (2)
  • Kaitlyn H.

The beer selection is wonderful! We have been here several times and have yet to have poor service! The food gets you by, but is not the greatest! The Bloody Mary is terrific! A great place for a drink in Cincinnati!

  • Ryan H.

Horrendous service during Sunday brunch. Waited ten minutes before a waitress even appeared to take our drink order. When she took our food order she didn't write it down and ended up forgetting an item. When the food did come out it wasn't bad but a few items were cold. Waitress never reappeared to ask how our food was until we were ready for the check. Once we asked for the check it took another ten minutes... Really like the location and the atmosphere of the restaurant but service could be better.

  • Jason D.

Not exactly a true English pub feel, but a nice looking place. Food was good, portion was about right, and a very nice selection of beers to go with. Maybe we lucked out (I see other people had bad experiences), but the Cock and Bull was a nice surprise for me. I'll be back.

    (4)
  • Kerry P.

All of the items on the menu sound really delicious, but the food itself is a complete let-down. Bland, dry, and uninspiring. Bummer.

One of the better sports bars in Cincinnati when it comes to watching football. Good array of TVs; 8-9 in main room, don't know about the back rooms. Beer selection is great. Atmosphere: great sports bar vibe. Surprised it wasn't more packed particularly since the tOSU game was on before the game I came to watch (Cal/NW). Found a seat quickly and had a beer in hand quickly. Beer/Food: Great draft beer selection with a menu that is ordered by alcohol content. Menu also gives beer descriptions that I actually appreciated. Food (I'm vegetarian) was squarely mediocre. The black bean burger itself was good but the bun was way over-toasted to being nearly a brick. The fries are dynamite and I would buy a basket of those in an instant. Service: Service was attentive for the first 3 rounds, then non-existent. Sure it was slow but it would have been nice to have more consistent service. Come here for the TVs and beer, but probably little else.

Stopped by with friends for a couple brews. Great beer selection. Uncomfortable place. Too crowded. Too loud. Too high priced. It feels like the establishment and the employees just take themselves much too seriously. I know they had a rousing success across the river but I hate being served by someone that exudes cockiness and gives me the feeling that they know they're much, MUCH hipper than I am. If you want my money, act like you want my money not like you don't need my money. Might be back if a group of friends buys into the hype and demands that we go there but it won't be my decision.

Cock and bull is a bar by night, restaurant by day. There menu of some English fare and bar food gets the job done. The god is good but not amazing. The beer menu is where it's at. They have a lot of beer on tap. Cock and bull is my go to for a casual beer on a patio in the summer in Hyde park.

    (3)
  • Scott B.

Nice beer selection with lots of IPAs. I had the fish sandwich with chips. The chips were good but the fish sandwich was a lacking in my opinion. The fish didn't have much flavored as compared to other pub-style bars that I have been too.

The location of this Irish pub can't be beat, especially if you are in the mood to people watch. Typical Irish pub food. Service was mediocre. Might go again but won't seek it out.

  • Sarah B.

Giving this place 3 stars... Let's just say I don't go here for the food. It's mediocre at best. But the beer offerings can't be beat, whether you want to try something new or an old favorite, chances are they'll have whatever you're looking for. And the bartenders always have great suggestions.

I frequent this Cock & Bull quite a bit & I LOVE their fish & chips. Most of my experiences have been great, however the service we received at our most recent trip was pretty bad. Their five onion soup is what I always start with - pretty amazing! We also tried the trio of dips (spinach/artichoke, beer cheese & the spicy sausage cheese dip) which was pretty good but our server kept disappearing for what seemed like at least 20 minute increments. for example, when he got our drinks, he didn't introduce himself or ask if we wanted an appetizer so that took longer than ideal to get ordered. He also smelled badly of cigarettes when he returned, which is not appetizing. When I ordered a 2nd glass of wine, he brought me the wrong kind - someone irritating since the wine per glass is pricey. The food, as always, was delicious, but the service was not good. :/ my other experiences have been great though so I will be back & just hope I get a server who takes better care of us. I recommend the fish & chips!

The location is perfect. The outside and inside building suits the area. This place really needs help with the service and management. It seems understaffed. This place is fine if you are just going to sip a couple of studs very slowly and watch a game.

  • Michael F.

If I were rating the beer selection it would be a 5-star review. But this is a review of the food, which is pretty terrible. I've been here so many times for the awesome pint nights, so I've given them lots of chances by trying different menu items, with mostly disappointing to downright appalling results. Only the fish and the pretzels have been decent. Tonight I ordered chicken tenders, which I figured no one could screw up too bad. Boy was I wrong. They were tough, lightly-breaded with absolutely no seasoning, not even salt, detectable in the "covering" (I can't call it breading or batter). I wish the cooks from Obryon's could come down the street and give a tutorial to the cooks at Cock and Bull. But blame should also be placed on the cheap ingredients for wildly extravagant prices. You can't order a sandwich or burger under $10 and it's likely to come out on stale bread and not be cooked properly. Be careful.

This place can get crazy packed! Couldn't find parking anywhere! The food is always good and the beer is always good. Love the classic fish and chips!

This place had really nice patio.. I love it and the overall location.. However the menu items and bar options are a joke as are the prices.. $11 for a subpar salad and the happy hour prices for a pint of beer is $5.50!! These prices are absolutely absurd! I could get better beer and food for better prices almost anywhere else. Really unfortunate since the location and patio is nice.

  • Chris H.

Good bar and nice outside seating. Food is not good and if you ever see the basement, you will never eat there again. There are definitely too many critters in that place to keep the food clean. Stick with beers and you'll be fine.

Their fish & chips is really good & their draft beer selection is large! Super bummed they eliminated their brunch. :-(

    (3)
  • Devika A.

I agree with a fellow yelper this is like a glorified TGIF except with an awesome selection of beer. I like this setting for groups, especially in the summer, when you can eat outside and try beers. Their specials every night are also great for post-work happy hour. I've only eaten the nachos, the fried onions, and pretzels from the few times I've been there. They are pretty good after a few beers. Also, their seasonal flights are great since you can try so many things. I would recommend this if you have a beer craving and if you want to munch on appetizers while catching up with friends!

I was there on Thursday. We had IPA craft beers and quesadilla. and The waiter was very friendly and quick. Loved the outdoor location by the fountain. Music was really harsh. We sat down before she started and it was way too loud and just very difficult to listen to. I hope they can find better talent to perform or just skip the music as the food, beer and location were plenty to enjoy..

Wasn't planning on coming here, but due too being 3:00 in the afternoon. The Dancing Wasabi did not open till 5:00. My girlfriend Toey was really hungry, so we decided to eat here. So we get there waiting for a host to seat us. Waited and waited and waited for 10-15 minutes. So I went to the bar to ask if anyone is going to seat us. They said to seat our self, so we did. Our waitress did wait on us right away. Ok onto the meal. I asked the waitress what is your signature meal. She said fish and chips. We ordered it, it was ok, just average. Toey ordered the spinach salad, that was not too bad. Overall I will probably not make a effort to come back here, because we had to wait to seat ourself...very discouraging :-(

We used to love going to their brunch. But over the last six months, the service has become inconsistent and terrible. The food is average. The last two times, the Bloody Mary bar was barely set up, even 45 minutes into service. Lately, there are always items not available on the menu. Disappointing every time.

A typical Hyde Park night starts at Teller's and ends at Cock and Bull. I love coming here no matter how crowded it is. Part of its charm I guess. And yes with it being a hot spot you can and will wait for drinks and food sometimes. So get over yourself and be patient. The live music adds to the great atmosphere and you can't help but get caught up in the happy mood. We had a server who knew her types of shots and it was a memorable night so say the least! Definitely check this place out for a good time!

2 stars because they have 60 beers on tap. A few weeks ago, right when the weather was getting nicer, a group of friends and I wanted to sit outside and watch the sunset. At the time, that was 7:45pm. So we agreed to meet at C&B for dinner and drinks at 7pm to enjoy the patio. Being first to arrive, I was glad to see a few(4-5) open tables outside. I put my name in with the hostess and she said it would be 45 minutes to be seated outside. So I ordered a beer and sat at the bar (knowing we were going to miss the sunset). A friend showed up, he got a beer at the bar too, and a couple other friends arrived. They were not as complacent to just sit there as we were literally staring at numerous open tables, and more people were getting up to leave. One of the girls went to complain to the hostess and ask when we were going to be seated at one of the obviously empty tables. Same time, 45 minutes, ruining the sunset. So on principal alone, we went across the square to Tellers. We had 5 people to eat and drink, and a 6th straggler, and we all spent our money at Tellers instead. Oh yeah, I counted 10-11 empty tables as we left C&B. NONE amongst us could figure out why they would drive away business like that, but they most blatently did. I know 5 people that pretty much felt like their intelligence was insulted that night, and pretty sure none of which will be returning any time soon. On the upside, Tellers has a really nice rooftop deck in the back, better food, and great service! (updated to add: the timing is right with Brian's post, but I can assure you that I don't know him, and hadn't even seen his posting at the time I wrote this one. Guess I wasn't the only one!?)

Glorified TGIFridays type atmosphere. Good for a beer, but we tried a few of their $5 martinis. Not good. Mine was advertised as chocolate but was really a "chocolate cake" martini- so it had a lot of cream in it. Probably won't ever eat here, but might be good to watch a game... if that was my jam.

Excellent beer and bourbon selection. Fun ambiance and vibe. Would be five stars but the server was scowling most of the night and took way too much time to notice empty glasses and to finally fill drink orders.

Five star beer selection and as a drinking location. Thursday is pint night and you can keep the glass of the selected brewery for free. The outside patio is great during the summer. Tons of tvs for sporting events. If you're looking for a drink in Hyde Park but don't want to go to a full scale, booze only bar, this is the place for you. The service isn't bad but it isn't great. The food is not very good. Most things are very greasy, including the pretzels that everyone is raving about. The regular food menu stops being served around 9, at which point they cater to drunks and only make pizza and other extra greasy items. The food leaves some room for improvement.

Great place for food and drinks. Rare to find a good happy hour deal unless it's early. Overall, pretty good quality of food. I love going here with friends. It's easy to get to and a good atmosphere. My only real set back from fully loving it- Some of the wait staff are not pleasant and act as if they do not want to be there.

My friend and I had the fish and chips. The portions were generous but nothing really stood out about them otherwise. The service left something to be desired. We got our own menus and utensils.

Only reason to go to this location is for their beers on tap. You can try a sampler of 4 5oz beers for $8. The food and service is terrible, I had a buffalo chicken wrap and couldn't taste any buffalo sauce, fries were okay. I was going to send back, but our server disappeared after delivering our food and I was hungry. The Covington, KY location is so much better.

Walked in at about 11:30 on a Saturday night and the place was dead. Odd, but I know why. The live music was decent. An acoustic guitar with a college kid strumming along with a weak voice. The kitchen had already closed. Wide selection of beer all on tap. If you're looking for your typical bottle of beer then you'll have to keep it moving. Was excited to try some local bar food being that I just moved here about a month ago from NY.

Another good Cincinnati restaurant. I stopped by for lunch on New Years Day. I was pleasantly surprised to see that they were open and serving food on the holiday. There was a bit of a wait so enjoyed a Snakebite at the bar while waiting for our table. Once seated, we got two orders of the pretzels with cheese. They were so good that even though I got a full pretzel, I was wanting more. For my main course, I went for the fish and chips. As a healthy eater, I NEVER order stuff like this. Boy am I glad I did. I went for the featherweight portion, which was just perfect. I doused my fries with vinegar and was in business. Very flavorful fish and chips. I imagine that this place is pretty good for night life, as well. Decorated like a traditional English Pub, there are a plethora of beers on tap and unique drinks (like beer mimosas). I liked it...I liked it a lot.

Excellent fish and chips. They use thick cuts of fish and fry in soy oil. Our server was very helpful, appreciated her informing my husband that the beer he was ordering was $12 (price was not listed on the menu, we appreciated the heads up). Don't get the steamed veggies - they were bland and mushy - get the fries instead, they make them well. We were disappointed when our party of 10 showed up and we were told they thought we had cancelled our reservation, which didn't make any sense. It was a crowded night but they were able to accommodate us in a reasonable amount of time. We've been back since and had no trouble being seated outside and enjoying the patio. Will be back for the fish and chips!

I'd come here any day for the beer selection. They have a ton of taps and it is one of the few places in Cincinnati that gets Three Floyds distribution. The food leaves something to be desired although I have yet to try the fish and chips which they are supposedly known for.

As everyone else says, the vast selection of beers on tap is top notch. I can't say the same for their food however. The first time I tried the food, I ordered the wings. The wings were good enough, nothing special. The second time I tried the food, it was not as positive of experience. I went here for lunch with a friend; he ordered one of their burgers and I ordered their "famous" fish sandwich. Neither of us were pleased with our food. The burger was grisly and had some vinegar on it that was not good. The fish was breaded, not battered, and was pretty greasy and bland. For $10.95, I expect their sandwich to be better than McDonald's, which it wasn't. I'll probably only ever grab beer here in the future.

I would love to give this place 2 stars because the food sucks but it's got a great location and an extensive beer list so 3 stars it is. Go for beers and the hot pretzel app and eat somewhere else!

Neighborhood regulars. No complaints on the food but good luck getting good service. Unless you sit at the bar-don't bother. The hostesses at the stand are exceptionally rude and useless. We arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday night and were told half hour wait. An hour later we were still waiting at the bar to be seated. When we enquired, the hostess claimed we gave her the wrong cell phone number. I had my phone sitting on the bar the entire time. I'm not dumb enough to give out the wrong cell phone number. Needless to say they sat us in the crappiest corner of the restaurant in the back room and continued to be rude upon seating us. When you visit this place weekly, it's hard to justify continuing to go back after such an absurd experience. Unnecessary rudeness. No thanks. Better bars in town.

I came here because I was in the area with a friend from the UK. I wasn't impressed, but it wasn't horrible. They did have my favorite beer (Kentucky Bourbon Barrel) for a reasonable price. The service was there, but a smile would have been a lot to ask for. My friend from the UK was highly disappointed with the lack on English beers in an 'English Pub'

I love being able to sit outside here at hyde park square area.. GREAT beer selection and some amazing sweet potato fries ! veggie wrap is a go to for me. Just this location, tends to always be very slow with service, I will be sat and not see the staff for a long time.. next time I ll probably just stick with a beer and eat some place else ( which I had to do last time bc they did not bother to tell me that the kitchen was down as a I sat there with some friends looking at a menu finishing a beer). oh and watch out on St. Patrick's day. (this happened to a number of my friends) the bar tender ( whom in most of my visit s there was always rude) would take out a tip from my change, that or he can't do math and shorted us.

On a sunny Sunday afternoon (4/14), we tried to stop in Cock and Bull for a drink on the patio. About one third of the tables outside were open, and inside, more than half of the tables were open. It was about 2:30 in the afternoon. We approached the hostess stand and were told that it would be a 45 minute to an hour wait. I stared at her for a moment in disbelief, looked around the room at all of the empty tables and looked back at her. Then some other woman came up and said "we aren't seating anyone. There's a big party in the back." She was very rude about it. I thought about explaining that all we wanted was a drink, and we'd be happy to order at the bar and not need table service, but then I thought that I'd be happier spending my money somewhere that isn't rude to customers. With half a dozen options within a block, I don't understand how a half full restaurant can be rude to potential customers.

Visited here a few times over the past 2 months and my last trip was last night. I can not say that I do not like the place but I can't say that I do either. The food is ok but it took a very long time to come out. The patio was half-empty and inside there was only one other couple. I had the buffalo burger cooked medium which was good and the portion was generous. She had the Cesar wrap with chips. What I will applaud is the variety of drafts on tap ranging from domestic light beers to dark stouts. At the same time I did not see to many ciders are English beers.

The few times I have been here in the past the food was okay and the service was okay...the worst part was the odd sound issue where it is so loud in the place even when there are only a few people there. The one time it was very crowded and the poor waiter had to crouch down and practically get in our faces to hear us. Whoever was in charge of designing the acoustics there gets a big fat "F". My husband wanted to go because he had never been, and I didn't mention the sound issue and we went. Fairly empty and after he said "what?" several times I mentioned the sound problem. Aside from this, the most recent time we visited the food was pretty blah (ok enough for the price, I guess) and the service was beyond awful, especially considering how many people I saw working and the fact that it wasn't all that busy. We will definitely never go back to this place, as it has nothing to offer especially in light of the many good options in the city.

Very clean, upscale, and fast service even when it's March Madness & they're jammed pack full of people. I didn't get any food, so I don't know how that is. I just had some beers. They have a fantastic vast selection of dark beers (my favorite). The prices are a little high, but it's a nice place to go on a weekend out with friends.

I came here with 2 friends for trivia night. We had a really good time, though we lost miserably at trivia! Most of the food on the menu was stuff I couldn't really eat, but they were extremely helpful in allowing me to order a plate of food that was not on the menu, which I based off items I knew they had after looking over the menu. If you like beer though, they had a lot on tap in the bar, and I heard they are one place you can go to for just about any kind of beer. I probably wouldn't go back myself, its just not my kind of place that I want to hangout in.

Best place for fish & chips in Cincy/Northern KY! Good beer selection. Great spot to people watch and enjoy Mainstrasse. I've honestly never even tried anything else there, but the f&c alone keep bringing me back. During the warm months their outdoor seating is awesome and year-round it is a late night bar destination. I pretty much consider it the anchor of Mainstrasse in both location and activity.

I have now experienced this Cock & Bull twice - once for a yelp event and once to hang out with some friends on a weekend evening. There's one thing I've learned from these two experiences - if I'm looking for dinner I may consider returning, but if I searching for a bar to hang out with some friends I will steer clear of Cock & Bull. Now I don't want to give the wrong impression - Cock & Bull is not a bad bar, it's just not my cup of tea. Even when attending just for drinks, you are seated at a table. We had difficulty finding a table large enough for the 6 of us friends who wanted to hang out, so we squeezed 6 chairs around a 4-person table. My other complaint was the volume - I felt like I had to shout to talk to the person sitting beside me. But if you're a beer lover - they have an impressive selection! I know the food here is good since I've experienced it at the yelp event. If I'm craving some fish 'n' chips I'll head to Cock & Bull, but otherwise I'll opt for a quieter bar nearby.

The outside sitting on a summer's day is absolutely grand. The atmosphere at Hyde Park Square is so comforting. Grant it, my friends and I were down there when some kind of bike festival or ride thing was going on. We had no idea what was going on, but it was so lively. Made it a hassle to find parking, but we were able to get a spot. The beer selection is probably the best thing about Cock and Bull. We had pizza, but its nothing to write home about. Thanks to Cock and Bull, and a friend, we were able to discover Triple Digit Aftermath!! GREAT beer. What's even more amazing is that its brewed a few miles away at Listermann's!! :) Go for the beer, don't expect spectacular food...

Went here with a large group for a drink following dinner. The place was packet to the gills which made it very hard for our group to socialize. The bar is surrounded with chairs, so you have to order over people. They need to have a place without chairs where people can walk up and order without disrupting other patrons. The area behind the bar is so large that it is almost bigger than the places for drinkers to stand. I overheard a woman say that "Cock and Bull is my favorite bar." I wondered if it was the only bar she had ever been to because just about any other bar would have been better. Our group had one drink and left and I don't intend on ever going back.
