I love this place, and its definitely a hole in the wall. Only Chinese restaurant all of my Chinese coworkers will eat. They take me their, and order off the menu. The rock shrimp is very good. I also love the beef and celery.

I love to find little hole in the wall places with great food, local spirit, and reasonable rates. This fits the bill on all accounts. One of the owners (it appears to be a husband/wife team) knew most of the customers by name and easily joked with the customers as they came and went. I had the spicy shredded beef and the cheese wontons, both were flavorful dishes I would happily order again. I kept hearing other customers talk about the egg rolls. I will have to make another trip to try these out.

Can't say anything about the food yet but the rudeness of the service has been stunning.

This is the best chinese I have ever had. Everything made to order and fresh. Small family owned and friendly. I would recommend to anyone.

This little hole in the wall has the best Chinese food ever, and I used to live in Atlanta, where there are tons of really good Chinese restaurants. The twice cooked pork and Szechuan tofu are amazing! The only thing is that the food takes a little while so don't go if you're in a hurry, but it's definitely worth your time.

Hidden secrete in Cincinnati. Parking is around back but the entrance is not well marked. The owners van is almost always by the door!

This place was super good! It was very unique flavors, but still familiar. And the woman knew who I was when I walked in to get my carry-out order even though I'd never been there before and hadn't even said anything yet. We got both the Chop Chop and the Governor's Chicken. The Chop Chop was good, but not what I was looking for that night. The Governor's Chicken will keep me coming back FOR SURE! It was like Gerneral Tso and Orange Chicken had a delicious love-child with fresh ginger and it became a governor. SO. GOOD.

The Chinese food here is just amazing. I love the szechuan pork, but there are a lot of amazing things on the menu. If they say spicy, they mean it, so beware! Joyce is in the front of the house, and she has a mind like a trap. She remembers everyone's name and what they order, so if you come here often she won't even take your order anymore, she'll just know. Some things to watch out for: the dining room is not that great, so this is not the kind of place you go to for a nice meal. It's more for take out or a quick lunch. Also, there's only ONE COOK in the back (Joyce's husband), with one wok. So you may have to wait a little while for your food. But trust me, it's worth it! Also, this place is super cheap. Definitely worth a try!

Chung Ching isn't anything fancy but the food and service is always top notch! The restaurant is located on Hamilton Ave. it can be tough to find because it blends in. It's between Cedar Ave. & LaRosa's. They have street parking & parking behind. My husband I usually get sweet and sour chicken, shrimp fried rice & egg rolls. All are delicious! The sweet and sour chicken is crispy and fresh and not overly greasy. The shrimp fried rice is SO good! It's my favorite! The rice is cooked perfectly & there's actually a decent amount of shrimp included. The egg rolls are so full, crispy and fresh. Their portion sizes are generous. The couple has owned this restaurant for over 30 years and you can tell they put love into all their dishes. This is a great local spot. If you're looking for some great Chinese food, check out Chung Ching!

I got some takeout dinner here late Sunday night. While the place is really divey and the wait was long, the good was really good! I'll start by saying I learned the hard way to call in advance for a takeout order. I waited just over 50 minutes for my order, but at least I knew they were making it fresh. In fact, the woman in the front of the house often informed people that things like egg rolls and wontons had run out -- generally a mark of making things fresh right? I ordered cheese wontons and she gave me $2 cash back because they only had 5 left out of the 6 that should be in an order. They were delicious all the same! I also ordered the Hong Kong chicken. It was basically fried chicken pieces in a brown sauce with lots of veggies (cabbage, carrots, mushrooms, bamboo shots etc.). It came with regular steamed white rice, which was waaaay over cooked unfortunately. The chicken was very tasty. With the sauce and veggies, it was very light. You can't say this for most other Chinese restaurants. I just wanted to keep eating! Also worth noting for takeout: they put the fried chicken pieces on top of the sauce in the takeout box. This meant that the chicken stayed crispy in transit. I love this attention to detail! Overall: I'll definitely be going back and trying something new next time. I'll just call first.

The best Chinese food in Cincy. Large diverse menu, great shareable portions, small prices and small home like feel. Anything is great on the menu with the exception of the fried rice, stick with white rice.

This place is great, the veggies are fresh, sauces are excellent, inexpensive, this is my new favorite restaurant near northside (I just discovered it but she's been running it for decades I guess). The recent 1star, 1 sentence review about poor service couldn't be more wrong, the owner is very nice, and I would recommend you check it for yourself.

This is the only Chinese restaurant that I go to in Cincinnati. Joyce and her husband have been cooking here for the past 25-30 years. And it shows. The place probably has the same decorations that they opened the restaurant with. But that doesn't matter to me as they invest all of their efforts into the food and service. Every person that i bring with me to this place, Joyce memorizes their name and spice level. Amazing. I wish my memory was just as close. I typically come to the restaurant 2-3 times a month. I usually order between the shredded tofu, beef with celery, governors' chicken, szechuan green beans, jia zhang tofu (fried tofu with vegetables), ma lai chicken, bbq pork with snap peas, beef/tofu soup, and crispy shrimp. But everything on the menu is great. Don't go in expecting something opulent but the place is very comfortable and Joyce will make you feel right at home.

When we lived in Northside, we started going to this restaurant and fell in love. Someone from work also frequented there, and she gave us all kinds of recommended dishes that weren't on the menu, and we became even more hooked! We've not lived in Cincinnati for about 4 years, but when we return we visit Joyce at Chung Ching! We almost always get Chop Chop which is DEE-li-cious!! We usually get it with chicken, but it's just as great as a vegetarian option. And, of course, we get egg rolls and won ton soup--both are some of the best--if not THE best--I've had. Joyce gave us the name of the vegetable used in Chop Chop, but to date we haven't been able to locate it. We even took it with us into China Town in Philadelphia, but no luck :( Service can be a bit slow; it's just Joyce and her husband, but everything is FRESH! Just enjoy some hot team and appetizers!!

We got carryout here. The food was really good, perhaps the best Chinese food I've had in Cincinnati. The wait was a little long, but I think there is only a staff of like 2 here. I would definitely go back, maybe we will eat there next time.

3.5 stars, really, with the potential to get better with future visits and more familiarity with the menu, I think. I went here for the first time yesterday. My boyfriend and his coworkers go often, especially the ones from China, who tend to order off-menu items. Since my boyfriend and I are no experts, we simply asked the owner what her recommendations were. We ended up with shredded beef and sichuan pork, but non-spicy versions for my sake. The owner pointed out that since it's all "home-cooked" by her husband, it's easy to accommodate people's needs like that. The beef was good quality, but I preferred the sweetness of the sauce with the pork. I look forward to going back and trying different things in the future. (Noodles!) Small detail, but I appreciated that the teapot didn't spill the way that teapots in most Chinese restaurants do. I also really appreciated how the owner knew several customers by name and inquired after their family/wellbeing. It's things like that that make you want to go back to a place. There's street parking, or a lot behind the building (off of Cedar), and the restaurant holds about 9 tables that can accommodate 40-50 people. The decor is authentic, meaning nice Asian art but with a bit of a "hole in the wall" vibe. It's not dirty or anything, though. And I like the wood-screened ceilings.

I was tipped off by my husband's friend that all his co-workers from China go to Chung Ching. It's a little hole in the wall in North College Hill that you might miss if you aren't looking for it. There's parking in the back and meter parking in front. The food was delicious. We really liked the crispy duck and the schezuan string beans. The beef with scallops and black mushrooms with bamboo shoots were good too- tasted a lot more like dishes that I would have at a potluck with all my mom's friends. Mmm. I want some more, now. All at a very reasonable price: for four dishes, rice, tea, beers and eggrolls for $50. The four of us cleaned out all the food. My only misgivings were that it seemed like a lot of the dishes were somewhat generic Americanized Chinese (though I'm sure they taste great, if our meal was any indicator). Someone tell me I'm not crazy: don't a lot of Chinese restaurants have the secret Chinese menu that has stuff that most American's don't order? I swear I've been able to pull the Mandarin card and get that menu. Anyway, I asked the server (who I think was the owner's wife?) if there was a Chinese menu and if there were any special dishes (I meant Chinese vegetables, but probably said it wrong), and she got really offended. And told me that there was Chinese on the menu. I think she forgave me afterward, but I felt pretty awkward. Hopefully she forgets about that conversation next time. Anyway, the food was worth it- I just wish it weren't so out of the way for me! It's pretty much what you want to find in a Chinese restaurant outside of the bigger cities: small, nothing fancy, cheap, and tasty!

Authentic Chinese. Don't expect much from the dining room. Expect a lot from the food. The owner lady was awesome. Gave us a history lesson on General Tsos chicken and let us know why you should never eat it. They do a great job and I would highly recommend.

It was good. The restaurant can easily be overlooked when driving by. There isn't a large sign, just the name of the restaurant in the window. The place is small and casual. The women who worked there was incredibly friendly. She knew every person's name who walked in the door. While I was waiting for the food, I notice that she was very attentive with all of her tables. She was also fast. Great service is unusual at small places like this, so that is impressive. I ordered the tofu and vegetables to go, extra spicy. The dish was good- but I was not blown away. I enjoyed it, I will go back and try other dishes too. It was not extraordinary like I expected from other reviews and word of mouth, but it was good.

Puzzled by the good reviews. Tried this restaurant several times and the food was merely average and always lacking in flavor. The dining room is a little grimy, salt and pepper shakers must have been last wiped down in 2008. Feel bad writing a bad review, because the mom and pop who run it are friendly and courteous.

Very disappointed. Mu shu pork came with no plum sauce. Szechuan was spicy but otherwise flavorless. Can't recommend at all.

I'm hoping to upgrade this to more stars after trying more dishes, but after one visit I'd say it is indeed "A-OK." I found out about Chung Ching randomly - while looking at a review posted in the window of Kat Ya Mein Noodle House in Hyde Park - and was excited to find out there was a Chinese food option just up the street from my place in Northside. We got a chance to order it this week, and it was solid. The storefront is totally nondescript, and with no awning or anything, if you're just zooming by on Hamilton (as I usually am) you'd never notice it. The inside is simple and small, with a handful of booths and one big round table. We ordered cashew chicken and garlic chicken, and both were better than average for Cincinnati Chinese food. The chicken actually tasted like chicken - what is that stuff you get at some places that is sort of squeaky and has no texture to make you confident it is actually meat? - and they used a nice mix of veggies in the garlic chicken. The flavors were a bit bland, but I really can't blame them for that because we didn't ask for any kick. Next time I will. The egg rolls were notably good - very big and tasty. I don't like King Wok or China Kitchen, so this is definitely tops on my list for being both close and acceptably good. It is amazing how low the bar is for Chinese here. If anybody has any thoughts on other Chinese places that are good (and don't say China Gourmet - I'm talking about for inexpensive), please share!

When I moved to Cincinnati my quest for good Chinese food took me to Chung Ching due to recommendations. We tried it once and were less than impressed. But with yelp recommendations we decided to give it another try. I would say it is par for Cincinnati Chinese food but not great in the slightest. Though not greasy as I usually find in these parts our meal was bland and the egg roll dry. We requested to have what they thought the best meal was but were met with minimal enthusiasm and regretful bellies. Definitely not the best I have had so the search for good Chinese continues.

I have to give full disclosure that I visited this restaurant with my friend, who is Chinese, and who knows the owner by name and orders in Chinese. However, that being said, this is the best chinese food I have ever had. My friend ordered us the string beans (think giant green beans) and they had just the right amount of spice. The owner also added in a little bit of chicken, and it made the dish even better. We also had a beef and celery dish that I could have eaten all night. The beef was spicy, but not too salty, like a lot of chinese food dishes are. The celery was crisp and just the right size. I don't want to sound stereotypical, but you could tell you were eating actual beef, and actual chicken. We were the only ones in the restaurant on a Friday night after work (around 6pm), but as we were served and began eating, more customers arrived. There was also a steady stream of take out customers. The service (from the owner's wife), was quick and attentive, and the waitress made sure we always had hot tea and water. The price was good too: $25 for two entrees, tea, rice w/ refills, water, and a starter of spring rolls, and we had too much food and had to take home leftovers. I am interested to see if the food is just as good when I go without my friend who knows the owner. I have no doubts it will be as the restaurant seems to be doing very well. My only disappointment is that I live on the complete other side of Cincinnati from the restaurant.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
