Well, after many attempts to redeem our perception of this place we, (there are 3 of us) have come to an agreement that this is a beer place only. The convenience of Boswell's is what always attracts us to this place but its been a disappointment each time. We are just getting tired of leaving here unsatisfied. The food, although on paper sounds appetizing, has often been a let down. The chicken tenders are good but are way overpriced for only 4 tiny ones. The nachos are big, but the cheese is only shredded and barely melted (some nacho cheese may do the trick!). We recently tried their gyro special and there was a lack of sauce on it. This made it pretty dry, but the side of curly fries made up for it. The cheese fries are pretty decent, as well as their wings, but the rest of their menu items are a gamble. Boswell's is a bar and should therefore have a good drink record. However, I've tried there long island ice-tea and their attempt at a margarita -both are not so good- we will officially stick to beer only if we find ourselves back here again.

My friend wanted to go to The Boswell because she was excited it had reopened. The place is nice and welcoming. The staff were pleasant and helpful and one of the owners came around to ask if things were okay. The beer selection is good with a nice mix of local/regional beers on tap. The food was a bit of a letdown. I ordered the special, fish and chips. The fish was....odd. It was two pieces of fish, good sized, but coated in a very heavy batter. Think "corndog". The fries were a standard restaurant supply fry. my friend got the Hot Brown, a sandwich served open faced with turkey, tomato, cheese, and bacon, covered in a curry-tinged gravy. It was not bad and certainly more flavorful than my fish and chips. Overall, the Boswell seems like a place still trying to work out the kinks. There were several families in there so it seems like the neighborhood wants a place like this to succeed. I think they need to focus more on the food to get there.

If you haven't tried it in a while....you need to come back!!! We had a Cuban and a burger and both were 1st class!!! The patio is probably the best in Cincy...always cool and relaxing. This place deserves your business and will only get better as they get it. Easy parking on the street and prices fit in well on the west side. Two entrees 4 drinks $25. Get there now!!!

Boswell's used to be an ultra-divey bar. Since it's reopening, it has gotten a nice facelift, and still has the nice back patio area. It's s tiny little place, but cozy enough. You will probably find live music here. While I didn't personally eat the food, I watched some friends eat it, and they were not impressed. The fries seemed akin to the kind you find at a school cafeteria, and the pulled pork was dry without any sauce. The moral of the story is, maybe don't come for the food, but for music and drinks!

Hey, i really liked this place! I never heard of it before i went there, so I'm not sure what happened in the past. But i had a fantastic hamburger which was really inexpensive ($6) and upgraded for $1 to sweet potato fries (major yum!). The service was great, and it was comfortable inside (not freakishly loud like in many popular establishments). I don't find myself in Northside frequently, but if I'm there again at dinner time, this will definitely be a place to go!

Boswell Alley may not be the place to go for the most creative, adventurous food in Cincinnati. Actually, to be honest, their menu isn't really all that exciting. However, it more than makes up for the lack of excitement by delivering consistently well made food and an all around fantastic experience. Boswell Alley is that neighborhood bar/restaurant that everyone wishes they had within walking distance. As a former Northsider, I was delighted when they finally reopened back in 2012. The menu consists of mainly sandwiches and all of them are well made and come out of the kitchen quickly, piping hot. The service is familiar- don't be surprised if they remember you after only a visit or two. The drink selection is decent- they have a full bar (and a relatively strong pour!) with several wines and a decent beer selection. There are even several local beers on tap. Did I mention that the prices on everything (even alcohol) is very reasonable?!?! Perhaps what is greatest about Boswell Alley is their patio! It is a fabulous outdoor space where you can bring a group of friends, sit comfortably and enjoy the evening. They frequently have live music and there is always a daily lunch special. All in all, Boswell Alley is a winner and the Northside neighborhood should be very happy to have it back!

As a bar, Boswell gets 5 stars for its nice atmosphere. It has a nice outdoor area surrounding a nice garden. I am rating this bar for 3 stars mainly for the foods they serve. If you are coming just for drinks, this is a great place for you. But if you come here for drinks and meals, I would not recommend it. They serve mainly traditional American foods--burgers, sandwiches, salad, and bar foods like wings and potato skins, etc. The foods are cheap, but they really need to be upgraded (if this bar wants to attract more foodie type of customers who want to have a good drink and also GOOD food). Some items on their menu are really just edible (just cheese and butter and salt...). I got a Salmon salad and was disappointed by it. The veggies in my salad are mainly baby spinach, but I found many withering spinach on my plate. That really turned my appetite off a bit. The salmon topped on my salad was grilled. Unfortunately, the salmon was plain and was even slightly overcooked (so the meat got dry). I was glad that I did not get the grilled salmon dinner since it would be a rip-off for me (salmon salad is around $10 while salmon dinner is $14). I also ordered sweet potato fries as a side. Well... The fries tasted ok, but they were sort of soggy and greasy. The service of Boswell was good. Our server was cordial and attentive. Again, it is a nice bar, but they need to seriously consider upgrading their foods!!! I would not come back unless they have better foods.

May be a good place for a drink but I wouldn't go for the food. There is no parking lot - only street parking. Since they have an outside dining area, there are a lot of flies around which grossed me out. Got the best tuna melt according to Cincinnati Magazine and it was nothing to write home about.

Stopped in for a drink with the family and found Boswell Alley to be charming. Definitely a neighborhood hangout but with a lot of character and incredible staff. Can't wait to go again.

My husband and I wanted to get something to eat in the Northside Historic district. We just had drinks at the Urban Artifacts Brewing. We were going to dine in at Django Western Taco, but they were closed on Sundays. Looked up places to eat around the area and found this hidden gem. Just located a couple of feet down from Urban Artifacts! BONUS! You cannot miss it! Their restaurant & bar resides in a building that dates back to 1886. It's named after a small brick alley just beyond the restaurant courtyard, that once was used as a freight corridor through Cincinnati. Walked in and LOVED the hardwood flowing and mood of the place (welcoming and laid back). The decor is very simple and has a decent size bar. My husband and I wanted to have our dinner at their patio (which is pretty roomy). At the time they had a live band playing (not too loud). Boswell's has a very diverse menu (soups, sandwiches and salads). VERY reasonable in pricing. They did not have a great drink section (beer/wine), but it was decent. Our waitress was very attentive and helpful. My husband started off with an IPA, I got a glass of the Hob Nob Pinot Noir for $5.00. Appetizer- Potato Skins (2) $3.75. Dinner- I ordered the Boursin Burger $6.50 (medium well) you get a side of chips, but I wanted Steak Fries ($1.95). My husband got the Cobb Salad w/ ranch dressing, protein- Jerk Chicken. The food came out within reasonable timing and everything was perfect! I know it's your typical bar food, but it was delicious! We received great service and enjoyed the band. Overall an awesome experience! I would definitely return. Restaurant and bathroom clean.

Great place, servers are very sweet, good well-priced food, but good LORD are they slow! It almost always takes 20 minutes for first contact with the server. I think it's a pretty simple organizational issue, but it's been this way for the entire six months we've been coming here...coming less and less, I should add, because of the slowness. Best patio anywhere, though.

Great for breakfast. We had Sunday brunch and it was about 60% filled with customers. The service was very welcoming and the menu was enormous. The Alley Breakfast was excellent. It was filling and delicious. I'm looking forward to returning to Boswell Alley.

Came here before heading down the opening for Urban Artifact. We were seated quickly at 6pm on a Friday and the place filled up fast. They had a great beer selection and the menu is what you would expect from the location. We had the baked nachos and Reuben potato skins. The appetizers were fine, but the super sub we had for our entree was the highlight of the meal. The service was a little spotty throughout the night. Some things came very fast, but getting our last round of beers and paying bills took a very long time. A band started up around 8. They were great and loud. If you are looking for somewhere to have a great conversation you may need to head outside, but if you want to listen to music and have a good beer this is a great place. Street parking only could be an issue. I would love to come back and have a good beer on the patio when the weather is a little warmer.

Boswell's is one of my go-to drinking establishments. Their beer selection is limited to the mass-produced basics and a few local favorites, but it's a great place to escape the crowds that float into Northside Tavern on the weekend. The food is on par with standard bar food, but not quite up to snuff with the unique Northside offerings at places like The Littlefield. Despite its shortcomings, our server is always super nice and remembers us. There's also an outdoor patio, and occasional hit-or-miss live music. The food is always hot, the beer is cold, and the service is on point. It may not be the most eclectic place in town, but its lack of pretension makes it a great place to go when you just need a drink and some conversation.

Boring draft selection. Most of the bartenders are nice. Typical bar food. The last time I was in two drunk regulars were obnoxious and the bartender found it hilarious. I found it rude enough that I won't return.

Love this place. The outdoor patio is great in the summer. It's a great place to watch the Reds. Good tap selection. What's not to like? The menu is limited. It's basically bar food.

I went to Boswell Alley on my way traveling back east from Colorado. My Aunt googled and told me to play the open mic so I stopped in to meet a friend and play some music. Didn't know what to expect but I found a really warm and vibrant atmosphere, friendly, open and quick waitstaff, and some really down to earth people! Ended up jamming with all the musicians there and had some great conversation. I recommend this place to anyone local or passing through like I did. It's rare I stumble across a place that brings people together over music, local celebration, and good food. I'm also vegan and was pleasantly surprised that there were options for me. Thanks Boswell's!

We had a really nice lunch today. The parking -- not so good, but we managed. We ate on the patio. We had everything from the Ruben to the Cheeseburger. Everyone was really happy with their lunch. It wasn't the cheapest lunch, but it was definitely good. A couple of things kept it from being a five. Service was fast at first, slow for ordering, quick for receiving, slow for check. It was weird, but it worked. Another thing I discovered led me to believe that I'll need to check the cleanliness of the dishes next time. (No. I discovered it at the end and didn't report it. My bad) The patio was lovely. It wasn't too warm today and it was quiet. I'm sure we will be back

This is one of my favorite spots. The Spinach and Artichoke dip is my favorite. It's super creamy and cheesy. The Boursin burger is to die for and the prices are great! They also offer outdoor seating on an amazing, comfy patio. This is a great place to get together with friends, but also family friendly .

I really, really want to like this place. Northside needs a restaurant like this--badly. We walked over to Boswell's Sunday early evening with our toddler. They were very nice and accommodating, and our server was very attentive. We ordered a pulled pork quesadilla for the little one and it came out very, very fast, which was great except that it wasn't really that warm on the inside. It definitely wasn't pulled pork (it wasn't even the right cut of meat for that) and it was super dry with no seasoning. It seemed like Friday night's pork tenderloin leftovers. I'm glad I didn't get the pulled pork sandwich. Their menu seems too big for a place like this. The burgers aren't that interesting. My husband ordered one and the bun was overwhelming the burger. More burger and less bun, please. I got the reuben, which was decent, except it seemed really overpriced compared to everything else on the menu. I hate to say this, but all the sandwiches come with...chips. Not home made chips or really good store bought--these are like generic potato chips that come in some giant bag that the cook just scoops out of as orders get plated. This isn't okay, except maybe at a PTA Back-to-School BBQ. Sure, you can get a plate of fries for an additional $2 or something like that, but come on! Just serve the fries and adjust your price. No one wants greasy, crumbly potato chips. I'll give this place some time to adjust, tone down their menu, focus on improving their main dishes, find an easy alternative to chips, and then I'll head back before the end of the year.

Went to Boswell's the other night for open mic night (Wednesdays) and had a blast! The service was friendly and quick, and the place is oozing with old-timey ambience. Love the exposed brick and hardwood floors. The sound system was perfect for solo or duo acoustic acts, and the back patio had loads of room to hang out or play a game of six-foot jenga. I will definitely go back!

Had the best cream of mushroom soup ever. Never tried this place before but I'll be back for more. We were sampling food in Northside and this was one of the best.

Boswell's is a great place to get a good burger right here in northside. I sometimes go twice a week, with friends or even by myself. The staff is more than willing to get to know there customers and make them feel at home. They have daily lunch and dinner specials and good beers in bottles and on tap. Did I mention the sweet outdoor patio. Don't hate. Go give Boswells a chance.

This is my new place to be with friends, sing karaoke and have a good time. They are bike friendly! They have an array of food on their menu! Outdoor patio for those summer nights! This is a must try!

The beer selection is o.k. The patio is very nice and would be a great place to sit and drink a few but the service was very slow so it was hard to appreciate the surroundings. Want to like this place but the service kind of makes it difficult.

Loved this place! I had a specialty burger and my husband got the special (spaghetti and meatballs). The food was great as well as the service and the prices. We are stoked to go back and chow again soon.
