If Im travelling down 75 and alabama que is open, im making a detour. Period!! I was travelling between detroit and asheville for a hot minute (now its atlanta) and i thought "okay, i know cincy has bbq" and sure enough there were several potentials on yelp. But since I have roots in eufaula, and I know how they get down down there, this was definitely my choice. I was not disappointed!! I'll just say what Ive eaten there--beef ribs, turkey tips, potato salad, greens, baked beans, blueberry ice tea. I get the carolina sauce. The meat is cooked perfectly; and I dont say that lightly. It really was. And fhe sides are just fine. Too bad I have to fly on this next trip. Definitely a good look for cincinatti!!

I'll break up my review into a few parts. 1. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich, and a beef ribs sandwich. (Both with the 'original' sauce which on it's own was fantastic.) The pulled pork was phenomenal and I certainly intend to get it again. Far more meat than the sandwich could hold, and the taste alone made it a deal. The beef rib sandwich (which did not come as an actual sandwich but were literally bone-in ribs with a bun on the side) were good but were a bit too burnt. If you're trying to decide between the two I'd obviously recommend the pulled pork. 2. Cornbread, would not recommend. Very dry, didn't have a taste out of the ordinary. 3. Sweet tea, the best sweet tea I've ever had. Some places, the sweet tea is just a generic tea bag + 1 lb of sugar. At Alabama Que you get a fresh made sweet tea with actual fruit in the tea, and the difference can easily be tasted. Also not overpoweringly sweet which maybe not everyone will like but it was a plus for me. 4. Service was friendly, but a bit slow. To be expected for a relatively popular joint with only one register. 5. Price, relatively farily priced, however the cost can get pretty high if you decide to get any of the large sized dinners. Overall 4/5, not the greatest thing in the world but I do intend to return.

Just finished the TUESDAY $5 special turkey tips (hot BBQ sauce) and Mac and cheese. Real good great deal, fast friendly. Will definitely go back really 4-1/2 stars

When you're in Cincy and craving BBQ, this is the place to go. It's a comfortable place with friendly service, and you'll usually find the owner there. Pulled pork, smoked chicken and turkey tips - you can't go wrong with any of them. We've had both the original and gold sauces and loved them both. We haven't had a side that we didn't like - cole slaw, baked beans, potato salad and macaroni and cheese. For the quality and quantity of food that you get, you simply can't go wrong.

Out of towner in Cincinnati for work; stopped here, and could not have been happier. Had the turkey tips with medium sauce and it was the best barbecue I've had in quite some time! Price was very reasonable and portion was adequate. Definitely recommend.

I cant rate this place highly enough! Delicious, spicy, amazing. I crave alabama que at least once a week. Blows all other bbq out of the water. Huge portions and really fair prices. They donate to homeless shelters too!

My first visit was great when he first opened on Harrison Ave. Things just aren't the same . From the food to the customer service . The last 2 times I visited Alabama Q . I ordered the same thing. I get home and get nothing I ordered . Then lately I've been buying the Tea by the gallon. Well the last gallon I got was colored water. I called back. The guy says ,"I'm not authorized to handle this matter but if you hurry up and come back I'll swap it out and if I didn't hurry the manager wouldn't do nothing about it .

Great service. Cute cashier. Food is great and affordable. Counter service only. Turkey tips...get 'em with the hot sauce. Even better the second day. Highly recommend.

As an update, I've had the same order several more times: brisket, greens & green beans. Each time I've found the beef to be drier than the next & without flavor. Still love the veggies, but am switching to the pork, which has a sweet deliciousness to it, & leaving the brisket behind. Tried to give my cat some of the dry brisket and he refused it. That's kind of rough!

Just had these turkey tips and yes - they are amazing, I also the beef brisket and , no - it was not amazing. Dry and flaky. However, I could probably eat the turkey tips all day long, they were moist and crispy and smoky and I had them with the hot bbq sauce and boom it was a home run. At this point I understood why this place is here. I also had the greens and thought they were good, the cole slaw was not my type - too creamy..overall, those dang turkey tips got me...

The food was great!!! The owner got offended when I asked him if the pound cake was homemade. He is tired of people telling him how to cook. He went on to tell me that he does not open on Sunday's because of the church people. I was truly shocked that a simple question made him go there. He must have been having a very bad day. Oviously he can cook, but his customer service skills are not up to par. #greatcustomerservicemeanseverything

Great barbecue in an appropriately divey location -- there's a little bit of space to eat, but this place is pretty clearly set up for carry-out orders. Only been here once, but I'll be back to try more stuff because what I had was delicious. I enjoyed every last bite of my $10 two-meat combo dinner (turkey tips and beef ribs) with collard greens, barbecue beans and a glass of strawberry tea on the side. As nearly everybody else has noted, the turkey tips rule: They're tasty, bite-size chunks of smoked bird, moist and flavorful enough to eat without sauce. Never had anything like that before, but I'm already craving a repeat. The beef ribs were OK: super tender but not all that highly seasoned (and a little *too* tender for my tastes -- I like 'em a little chewier than that, but it's a personal preference on that one). Tried two barbecue sauces, hot and gold, both of which were tangy and delicious. I was slightly surprised they charged me 50 cents for the second little tub of sauce. The collards, which have cabbage and turkey mixed in, were tender and satisfying. Beans were interestingly spiced and the dinner came with a small whole-wheat dinner roll that served to sop up all the delicious juices left on my plate. Bonus: Check in with Yelp for a discount.

Located right off the main drag in Fairmount today our lunch took us to Alabama Que. Known for their Turkey Tips, Alabama Que offers a pretty straight forward menu with daily specials. I had the Turkey Tips. Generous portions of smoked turkey tips, with the right amount of BBQ sauce on top, I chose the hot BBQ. The turkey is flavorful and very tender, almost able to cut it with the provided plastic fork. My two side items were the green beans and the potato salad. Both were fine, but after seeing the pictures on his website, I almost wish I had gone with the collard greens as they look fantastic! The proprietor, a gentleman named Dwan, was more than accommodating to our crew. He offered up his own review of all his menu items, a reccomnedation of his turkey chili (I had a cup, it was great!) and even his own viewpoints on Cincinnati Chili. My Lunch cohort had the wings. Much larger than the wings you find at your typical BW3's and the like, these wings were cooked crispy, lightly breaded, and according to him "Tasty." He also had the bbq nachos that he described as "Pretty Awesome". Overall, I have to give Alabama-Que a solid 4/5 stars. I'll definitely be back.

It was ok at best. I've had better. The yams tasted like artificial vanilla flavor was dumped on them. I only managed to eat a few bites. The macaroni was mediocre, nothing to wow over. The pulled chicken was drenching in sauce, although it was the best thing I had ordered. I wouldn't recommend this place. There are better BBQ options in the city.

After my last two over top reviews, I need something to bring me back down to earth. Enter Alabama Que. This place is not bad, but not great. They are located near UC. Nobody will ever confuse their BBQ with Eli's, but their menu is so different that they almost shouldn't be compared. Alabama Que specializes almost exclusively in Turkey Tips. I don't know exactly what they are, but we ordered a large portion of them based on the recommendation from the manager. I also got a brisket sandwich because its so tough to find good smoked brisket around here. The turkey tips were just okay, to be honest. Maybe we got a batch that had been sitting around for too long... I'm not sure. The brisket sandwich was average as well. I wish it had been better. I was honestly hoping it would be delicious as I'd love for Eli's to have some real competition in the area, but Alabama Que didn't stand up to the test. FWIW, their bbq sauce and sides were good. Oh yeah, for the non-pork eaters, Alabama Que makes their collard greens with turkey instead of bacon and it was pretty dang good.

Pretty good green beans a smidge salty but I like and will give them another try. And you can deliver through zooted but they take a little while to get to you.

Yes sir! This is BBQ. I recommend the beef ribs and turkey tips. Portion sizes are a great value for the money. This place uses some serious seasonings for all their cuts of meat. All sauce options are delicious. I recommend the medium spice sauce which packs some serious heat. The baked beans have a serious amount of brown sugar and butter. This is easily one of the top BBQ places in Cincinnati.

After discovering this restaurant, I wish I had discovered it sooner! I love the choices of meats, sides, and drinks. Service is fast and affordable while the food is even better.

It's not the best BBQ in the world but it's nice to have a solid takeaway option. Also, if you are a spice lover, you can get some decently spicy BBQ sauce which my husband loved. I had the pulled pork. Basically, the flavor revolves around the sauce as the meat itself isn't exceptional and was slightly dry. The BBQ has a decent flavor and they have 3 or 4 sauces to try. The sides were all solid though none stood out and the mac and cheese was a little...odd. It was a solid block that had to be pried apart. You get a LOT of food for not much money and service is fast. You can eat in though there isn't any atmosphere to speak of. So, if you want to have a serious BBQ meal, make the drive to Eli's BBQ. If you need something quick and convenient to bring home, this is a good option to have on Short Vine.

The first thing that comes to mind when I think of barbeque is pork. But what if you're like me and you don't eat pig?? Enter Alabama Que. Plenty to choose from besides the piggy version of bbq, and this makes me very happy. Beef Brisket, Turkey Tips, and the Smoked Pulled Chicken are all very savory and sure to please. I like their yams too. BBQ lovers should check this place out!

The definition of BBQ is "low and slow"! I watch too many food TV shows! The stuff that passes of as food is no where near BBQ. I challenge any frequent customer to take a photo of something bought at this restaurant that shows an actual smoke ring (as all true BBQ has)! The "fresh" juices are from concentrate and might have fresh fruit pieces added. The (awful) baked beans are Bush's Vegetarian beans. The only sides I had were the beans and the mac & cheese, which was just ok. The big guy (owner?) was not very pleasant with me, maybe he was having a bad day? While I was waiting for my food, someone came in and asked someone to move a car from the driveway which to me was odd because I see that big white truck parked in that driveway all the time. I just assumed it was free parking for his place but it's actually a parking area for the medical supply store adjacent to the driveway. Obviously from my tone, I did not have a good experience with Alabama Q! And I cannot give it a good recommendation. Tony

I was very disappointed with my meal. I got the food delivered through Zooted Delivery. The food seemed fresh and was warm, however it was not good. I ordered the beef ribs dinner and pulled pork dinner. ribs- 4/10 greasy, salty, but tender Pulled pork - 3/10 really bland, a little tough and very watery for some reason Mac&cheese - 3/10 really super bland. Tasted like starch Yams - 2/10 Way too sweet, couldn't even taste the yams, just the syrup they were swimming in Green Beans 4/10 very salty, but decent flavor Corn bread 1/10 Corn bread was awful. It was nearly inedible because it was so hard and dry I bought 4 and at two bites of 1. Baked beans 2/10 Extremely sweet. Was like eating maple syrup with a spoon Potato salad- 9/10 Very good. Great flavor, literally the only thing I liked. I will not eat here again. I spent 25$ on food because I was starving and ended the meal still very hungry.

Turkey tips are amazing!! The medium sauce hits the spot... The 2 meat combo is more than enough for me :D

  • Chris A.

This place is decent. I think they pre make a lot of the food. Obviously you have to with ribs, but the sides all seem pre made. The mac and cheese is always good, but I've gotten it a few times and it was luke warm. Same thing with the collard greens. The BBQ sauces are really tasty though. I wish I could review the meats but I've never tried them. Worth trying out.

Alabama Que serves great BBQ, side dishes and wonderful fruit flavored iced tea! My favorites are the brisket and pulled pork. Really good food, very friendly staff and reasonable prices. Highly recommended!! Best for carryout, the very small dining room has zero ambiance. But for take home food this is about as good as it gets!

  • Matthew R.

I'm going to give Alabama Que a blazing 5 stars for being among the best soul/southern food in Cincinnati. I've tried most of their meat and sauces, along with most of their sides, and never had a bad experience. My personal favorites are the Brisket and their famous Turkey Tips. Absolutely delicious. Do the hot sauce if you can handle it. Also, be warned - the greens are delicious but very spicy! Quick service, great food, inexpensive prices, especially for lunch ($5 lunch deals). Great for carry out or delivery, but you can also eat there. It's a little divey, but that's what I'd want from a place that brews up good southern cooking.

Out of the 4 months I worked down here and stayed on the same street, I just first tried this place today. Excellent! Owner came out to our table and asked how everything was, explained his methods and just shot it for a while. Turkey tips, awesome, its a 30hr preparation process and it works. Beans, Mac-N-Cheese, potato salad, all excellent. Definitely worm your way in this place if you ever make your way down here!

Very small place, only 4, 4 person tables. Cashier didn't point out lunch specials and acted like we bothered her to take our order. I got the turkey tips in medium sauce with coleslaw and the wife got pulled chicken with potato salad. The food came out quickly in Styrofoam boxes with the bun separated to make your own sandwich. There was enough meat to make two sandwich's (both cost under $5 and the side was $1.50). The tips and chicken were cooked well but the sauce was too vinegary. The slaw was very good but the potato salad was bland. The iced tea was very good.

  • Roth M.

The real fruit flavored iced tea was the gem here. I've been looking forward to visiting Alabama Q for quite a while now. I got the 3 meat combo of Turkey Tips, Pulled Pork, and Brisket. Turkey tips were good, pork and brisket were bland and dry. Though bathed in sauce, they were still dry. I like the style of the place, and the wait time was not long, but the meats didn't have smokiness and flavor I expect from a smokehouse. I've wanted to love this place from afar, but the fruited teas are probably their best bets. I'd go back for the tea.

Alabama Que is the best BBQ in Cincinnati, hands down. Other people give Eli's their vote, some like the Ribs King. Me? I'm from down south, I know that BBQ sauce isn't supposed to be a dessert. I know it isn't supposed to overpower the meat. That said, Alabama Que finds the perfect blend of sweet and spicy in their array of sauces. Their meats are cooked to be as tender as any other in the metro while offering up turkey tips for those who eat little to no pork. My girlfriend got turkey tips which were something I'd never heard of before. If you're into the bird, these guys won't disappoint. It's flaky and tender and has a hint of sweet smoke. My brisket was impeccable, reminding me of the stuff home fresh out of dad's smoker. The service is friendly and they take an enormous amount of pride in this little hole in the wall. I love it.

Service: a little slow, but the owner came out and apologized and also was very friendly and proud of his restaurant. Interior: small, cold, 3-4 tables, not very cozy. Food: I ordered the turkey tips that seemed to be their claim to fame with a side of mac&cheese, corn bread, and yams. The turkey tips were chewy, dry, and a little too salty.. I hoped they would be tender and they did not taste fresh. Their bbq sauce also was not memorable. The mac and cheese was ok, corn bread was extremely dry, and the yams were too sweet. The only thing I enjoyed was the peach tea, which was very good and had freshly cut peaches in it. Summary: the owner's and a friend's hype was not matched by my experience and I don't think I'd return, unfortunately.

I recommend Turkey Tips and Strawberry Ice tea. Where else can you get them in Cincinnati? The younger gentleman that took my order seemed jaded or annoyed at every single customer that came in. I'll be back for those T tips again!

This place is excellent. We had lunch on a weekday and it was fair ful.The BBQ aroma hits you as you walk through the door. You order at the window and wait to be called. There isn't much seating and little air conditioning. The food took a little longer than expected but was worth the wait. The Fruit Punch is refreshing and worth the price. The Turkey Tip with Mac & Cheese and Yams was great. I enjoyed their BBQ sauce too.

Upon entering Alabama Que you would think that the food would be borderline on the downside due to the quaint space, type of customers, and semi slow service. I assumed wrong! The service was good and the cashier seemed to be readily available to assist with your needs. Reading the reviews on Yelp helped me to decide on my meal choice: two meat combo (Turkey Tips and Pulled Pork), Greens and Mac/Cheese. First the meat. It was soft and tender and not too juicy, with amazing sauce that compliments the spices. The Mac and Cheese taste like what you would eat at home while the Greens were seasoned to perfection! I would say though that the food could have been warmer and more spice on the greens would not have hurt the taste. We were also encouraged to try the tea. The tea was average. It was not sweet enough and not indicative of your normal southern sweet tea (Lemonade and sweet tea). I would suggest they offer more fountain drinks. Overall, I recommend this place!

Folks, growing up on homestyle cooking in a Black family, rare do I come across food prepared in that same delicious manner. Alabama Que more than achieved that goal. Dear God, I was in fat-man food paradise. They did not just "hit" it...they Hulk-style SMASHED it! I live in Kentucky but, I will be going back again and again, and again! Thumbs up, kudos and a Oh Hell Yeah for the Que! (realized I should have posted a picture but...belly would NOT give it a chance.)

Looking for some BBQ with some soul in the 'Nati? Hit up Alabama Que for some finger licking, stomach sticking slam! I grabbed the pulled pork and chicken sandwiches with green beans, Mac and cheese, baked beans and potato salad. Okay, so I'll need to hit the gym too, but damn it was worth it! Is there molasses and nutmeg in the baked beans? Something really interesting and delicious is going on there! The Pulled chicken and pork sandwiches have a more sauce than smoke. They were very moist and juicy. The green beans and potato salad were fairly good, and the Mac and cheese was average. This place is very down to earth, charming and really affordable! Put this soul food BBQ joint in your "que!"

Holy WOW! We were at University Hospital area and in need of lunch. Nothing really sounded all that appealing then we say Alabama Que! what a awesome find! It's a little hole in the wall place I think like 3 tables. Everyone that came in but us, took their orders to go. We had the turkey tips, pulled pork, brisket, mac and cheese and collard greens. Everything was off the chart good but the turkey tips made a chart of their own! WOW is all I can say! The original and medium sauces are perfect. This definitely reminded me of the Que from my days in Montgomery.

I had the baked beans and the greens and the turkey tips and chicken and I gotta tell you that baked beans were some of the best baked beans I've ever had a very hometown taste to them never had them like that before and they were awesome enjoy

Mr. Ward has a great thing going on at Alabama Q's. If you don't know about BBQ Turkey Tips, you better get down there and find out first hand. I am not a pork eatter, so this is my kinda spot. Beef Brisket was really good with the Gold Rush BBQ sauce, but my favorite is without a doubt, the Turkey Tips with the Hot BBQ sauce. All the sides are delicious, so it's hard to pick a favorite. One of Cincy's best kept Secrets. Dwan is genuine when he is there asking you if the food was good, and he also will not hesitate to tell you about being health conscience with how he prepares the food. Alabama Q's is the Sure-Shot. Trust and Believe, you won't be disappointed.

This place is awesome. The only thing I don't like about it is on week days they only deliver until 8pm. They serve generous portions. My fiancee and I both had the chicken with mac and cheese and green beans. The rolls are awesome, the chicken was tender and sooo good,. They deliver quickly and the staff was really nice, the driver and who I talked to on the phone. mac n cheese wasn't bad, and the green beans were pretty good. I will definitely eat there again, even though it was a little on the expensive side. But it was good southern cooking :)
