Great date night place! Delicious, fresh food. Awesome servers. It's a little pricey but only a bit more than the chain restaurants you'll find on State St. It's well worth it to try Zoe's, especially on half price wine night (Tuesdays). Try the special; you won't be disappointed.

Unsurprisingly, there are not a whole lot of fine dining options in Athens, which makes it extra cool that Zoe is really good. Living in Cleveland, we have access to a lot of great restaurants, and I think we'd be regulars at Zoe no matter where it was. The prices are extremely reasonable, and the menu is very diverse -- lots of vegan, vegetarian and fish options to go alongside fine-dining mains like steak, lamb and duck. This is a comfortable place churning out really nice food for bargain prices. Definitely worth a shot if you're looking for something nicer in Athens.

Zoe's was recommended by the Athens Visitor's Guide we found at our local hotel. We stopped at 5 pm and asked to make a 7 pm reservation. Got our name in and hit the OU town to do a happy hour before dinner. At dinner, we had a dual filet medium with risotto and a lobster dinner with glasses of sauv blanc. It was amazing! The desserts consisted of crepes which were to die for and an order of their signature "lavendar ice cream." It didn't sound appetizing but my sweetheart wanted to try it and he did. It was all his. It was something they made on site but it was not something I was into so it was all for him. :) I took a pass.... The magazine shared it was a very expensive restaurant for it's location but it was worth the money. By the time the bill came it looked more to be what we typically pay for one in Columbus. Total bargain by our standards. Game on! Yah, we'll be back! Check it out and enjoy. The service was fabulous and the meal was worth it. It was fun watching all the parents with their kids and local profs dining....

So...damn...good! Smiling waitstaff, great drinks and oh yea, the food was incredible. Order the pan seared steak.

After visitng Zoe's for the second time, I figured I would write a review. The first time I visited, I had the Chicken Pappardelle which was pretty good. This time however I ordered the Sauerbraten, a traditional German dish of braised beef tenderloin tips marinaded in a vinegar mix. Served with pumpkin spaëtzle and asparagus, the dish was amazing the the beef unbelievably tender. For dessert, my girlfriend and I split Raspberry Crème Brûlée which we both thoroughly enjoyed. They had a nice selection of wines to choose from but the beer list was lacking. They had a just a handful of beers that included some lackluster macro brews like Budweiser and Bud Light. The server was very friendly and attentive to us the entire evening. Zoe's is one of the best dining experiences in Athens and hope visit again soon.

Went to dinner with 6 friends. Took 45 minutes to get our food when they weren't busy at all. Our salad had a long hair in it. The salad was nicely replaced by our waitress but when I said something to the store manager he acknowledged the problem but never apologized. Many of us were also served cold dinners. Will never return or recommend to others.

Zoe's is easily the best food in town. The service is excellent and the owner is careful to check in with every table to make sure the dining experience is up to par. The menu is clean and inventive, the ingredients are local and fresh and the drinks are outstanding. Frequently I've had visits when the waitress drops off complementary taster plates of whatever the chef is developing. I can't say enough about the many enjoyable experiences I've had there. Zoe's is a little more expensive than other places in town, but the quality is unsurpassed in Athens. And honestly, it is no more expensive than dinner at a much lesser restaurant in Columbus.

On a recent visit to Athens, I asked my OU Bobcat son to pick a place that he would only go to if his parents were paying. Luckily for us, he asked around and some friends recommended Zoe. Tucked away in a nondescript store front, it would be easy to miss, but it's worth the trip. My picky sons both ordered the crab cake appetizer and were enthusiastic fans. My chop salad was ok, a little vinegary, with not quite enough blue cheese. Son's friend ordered the carrot ginger bisque, and was quite happy with his choice. Entrees were enjoyed by all. Sea bass, planked salmon, seared ahi, vegetarian crepe, and my spinach risotto were all well received. The risotto was excellent - creamy and richly flavored. The OU student was thrilled with the ahi. Son's friend loved his crepes and said he'd eat more vegetables if dining service tasted like this. Dessert was a pleasure. Raspberry creme brulee, strawberry crepes, and baked Alaska were all quite enjoyable. Service was attentive and friendly, making for a pleasant overall experience. Zoe is worth another trip the next time we're in Athens.

We went to Zoe for my birthday last month and I came away quite impressed. The service was alright, but the food was amazing. I had the East/West Filet Duet and my fiance had the Roast Amish Chicken Breast with Gnocchi. The bacon wrapped filets were excellent and there were plenty of sides to round out the package. I was able to steal some of the Amish chicken breast from my fiance, and it seems her meal was just as good. It seemed very clear that this is one of those restaurants where you can pick anything on the menu and likely come away pleased. The pricing was very fair for the food quality. Highly recommended.

Our favorite restaurant in the area. Food is consistently great and fairly priced. The waitstaff rocks! They are friendly and helpful. Their bar is great it compensates for their limited (but fairly priced) wine list. Wednesday mixology with a special drink menu (they used to have great small plates specials then and I am lobbying for them to return). The gnocchi appetizer is something we order every visit. The Spicy Shrimp and Peanut Stew is very good and something I have not seen anywhere else (though not overly spicy). My wife orders the risotto on the vegetarian menu and adds shrimp. Their mashed potatoes served with the steaks are great. Seafood and steaks are consistently cooked to the correct or requested temperature. I usually order one of their specials because they are creative at combining flavors and textures that I trust it will be great. Go to Zoe it is a great place!

I took my daughter here for dinner last night, and we were both very pleased with our meal and service. We started out with great martini's - it was a dirty gin martini with blue cheese stuffed olives. Wow - very very good! The only reason why I'm not giving this a 5 is because my daughter got really excited to see mussels were on the menu, but when she ordered them as an appetizer, she was told they were out of mussels. We were there at fairly early (maybe 6). But we didn't let that ruin a good time, we ordered caesar salads instead. The salads were very fresh, and we were excited to see Zoe is one of the few places that puts white anchovies on their caesar salads! For dinner, my daughter had the salmon and I had a special (striped bass served on a bed of spaghetti squash). Both of our fish dishes were perfect. The salmon had a very delicate lemon butter sauce that didn't overwhelm the fish. My bass had a light white sauce that was very tasty. We decided that we would do dessert - she had a sundae and I had an apple crisp with a dip of vanilla ice cream. Other reviews might have mentioned this, but Tuesday is 1/2 price wine night.

My 20 year old son loved the flavor of the butter. He got the steak duet and ate every last piece! He said it was pretty good. I got the flat iron and loved the sauce. The crab cakes were good but maybe in the middle needed to be warmer.

Spent $100 for a perfectly mediocre meal. This place was trying to be pretentious but failing and done with cheap materials, We had crab cakes, london broil, shrimp carbonara, baked Alaska, scrimshaw beer, Moscow mule, Malbec, sweet dessert Malbec, and Kenyan AA coffee. Crab cakes needed a crunchy bark and not warm, coffee tasted old, tiny portions on all servings, London broil ordered medium well and served medium, giant lump of unmashed potatoes in the tiny pile of potatoes, tiny portions (very few veggies), should be serving port rather than a mediocre Malbec for dessert, Moscow mule was mild and served in a glass cup, and don't get me started on the baked Alaska. I'm including a picture. The ice cream was melted. We complained, left most of it and no resolution was offered. I had heard great things about the place but was very disappointed. We are townies who could be regulars but don't plan to eat there anymore.

Had the worst meal I've ever had in my life here. I came with my mother and I ordered a pasta dish and it was repulsive. Completely inedible and my mothers chicken was undercooked. We sent our dishes back and just asked for crab cakes. They were mushy, not cooked properly, and you could tell they were old. I would never go here again.

I eat at Zoe quite a lot so I thought I'd better get a review in. First, let's remember that we are in Athens Ohio. This is not, NYC, SF or New Orleans. It's not even Columbus or Cleveland. That isn't meant to make excuses, but if I'm reviewing a 100/person dinner I'm going to have different standards. Zoe is great! It's the only "fine dining" (ok maybe salaam) in uptown Athens. The people that work there are really friendly and helpful (gotta give a shout out to Lauren who is the best) and they do and alright job. Tuesday night is wine night so all glasses and bottles are 1/2 off. This rules. Also, take out bottles are always 1/2 off. That double rules. The presentation of the food is always pleasant and timely. The breads are good and so is the cabernet butter. The iced tea has something extra good about it too, as well as the coffee. I have not loved everything I have ordered but I stick with the things I like and I'm never disappointed in them. I have never gone wrong with the paprikash, wild mushroom papardelle, scallops, amish chicken or the hangar steak. Also, I love the new peanut curry dish they have on the menu. The salad starters are huge. More than necessary for sure, but the dressing is good and I always finish up. The crab cakes are also good. I hope they bring back the potato soup and chowder as those were both excellent too. Things I wish: I wish they had another steak dish. I don't like the sauces on the fillets so i never get them. I like the hangar steak-but you need to order it as rare as you can stand for it to be really good. I wish they varied the specials more. I don't like fish or lamb very well, and it seems like one of those is always the special. For my non-adventurous friends, it would be nice if there were something really basic, like spaghetti, something cheap that those who are afraid to try things could enjoy without feeling like they spent a lot of money. I would not take any of my "complainer" friends to eat here because they would... complain. I would send them to Stephen's where they could get really bad service and unpleasant food and have something to really complain about... Overall, I love going to eat there. Makes me feel like there is more to appalachian Ohio for someone who isn't in college anymore than cammo coats and cheap beer.

Outstanding Restraunt for a college town. The service was very good. The specials where fresh and flavorful. My daughter ate the paella the rice was dead on. I had the pork schnitzel. I asked for it pounded thinner then normal. Without question it was done as I asked. You where able to cut it with a knife. I cannot wait to eat there again when I visit.

Zoe's had very good food. We enjoyed an appetizer and both entrees. The chef seems almost out-of-place, compared with the prompt but undistinguished service, and the sub-par wine list. That said, Zoe could well be the best dining choice in Athens, and the prices were very reasonable. My wife and I had dinner there on a Thursday night in mid-August, which was quiet. Once the school year starts, parking could be a challenge.
