DO NOT EAT HERE. I have been to the Grand China Buffet several times over the years. I always went there knowing that the food isn't the best quality, but it was usually good enough, and the service was decent. However, I will never go to the Grand China Buffet ever again. The last time I was there, my waitress was either a manager or the owner. She actually came to our table while I was talking to my wife, interrupted us, gave us the bill and proclaimed loudly, "You pay now!" It was incredibly rude. She then watched and waited for me to write in a tip. I really wanted to give her a big fat zero under the tip section. She didn't even refill our waters or anything. We were not, loitering or being rude or preventing others from being seated. We still had food on our plates. After getting shaken down for a tip, we got up and left immediately and vowed never to return. That was horrible service--extremely horrible service. It's pretty much the exact opposite of what you should do as a server. To be honest, the place has been going downhill for some time now. When it first opened, and for several years after, it was a nice place with friendly staff. There is a place called China King on court street in downtown Athens. It's much nicer, friendlier, and the food is fresher because they have enough traffic all day long to eat the stuff in the steam trays before it gets too old. Many Asian students eat there, so that's a good sign. They even have a "secret menu" for Asian folks but you can get it if you ask. It has more authentic dishes that may be scary to some rural Appalachian westerners (not being demeaning, just being honest). It's the best buffet in town. The best traditional restaurant in Athens is China Fortune. It's great for carry out. They too have the "hidden menu" if you want to get daring. Either of these options is better than the Grand China Buffet.

Worst Chinese buffet I've ever been to. Overpriced, food was GROSS, service was terrible. Never going back. Paid over $12 for a buffet full of food that had CLEARLY been sitting there all day long.

Typical Chinese buffet place as far as food goes. There are 4 buffet tables with one for noodles and rice, 2 for meats, and one for cold dishes and deserts. The odd part is you pay after your meal which is odd to me but whatever. Lunch is $7.40 including drink. Nothing stands out and all the standard items are there.

It's a Chinese buffet. It's not supposed to be gourmet. You go, you eat too much food, regret your decisions. But hey- you go back because they have the best Chinese donuts in town. And it's cheap.

don't ever go. and we never go back again. ever. I expected Chinese buffet. you pay what you get. Understood. but I didn't expected sour spring roll, sweet & sour chicken with sour flavored chicken, dripping oil crab lagoon, soggy fortune cookies(!!!). to be fair, few items were decent. no smell or funky tastes. but most deep fried items ( include pre-made frozen items) were had smell and sour. horrible. my husband tried to explain at cashier who was Chinese and she seems not understand English well. she just yelled him ' no no english! you pay you pay you pay now!!!! ' well of course he paid..... we couldn't anything about it. this lady shouldn't force to pay customer. this place has serious problem(s) about management of food quality and workers. individual packaging soggy fortune cookies????? I want to know how long these items were sit in the box with moisture. unreal. plastic packaging should keep away from water.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
