Trust me, I get the whole "first day of school" excitement and having to wait, so that was to be expected on August 23rd when the young folks were getting acclimated into school. My son had been their for a week already, so I only had to bring a few things. After the hour, plus drive to get to Athens, I was hungry. My son suggested a place we had not yet been. We walked to the Court Street Diner and was greeted with a line....no problem. I'm thinking it has to be good if there's a wait, but apparently there were waits at every cafe, diner and fast food place due to the circumstances. He and I waited for about 10 minutes to get a table-not bad! The hostess immediately gets a server's attention and apologizes to her for getting ready to "double sit" her. I know what that means, so I'm expecting a grumpy server. It would seem 10 minutes would go by before we were acknowledge by a server, but wait, not our server. Eventually, a "happy go lucky" comes over and says sorry for our wait. Seriously, I was ready to leave. We already knew what we wanted-we had enough time to think and re-think of what we would order. My son ordered some pancake looking sandwich with a sausage patty, hashbrowns and a egg in the center. I ordered the cod fillet sandwich with broccoli. OMG, it probably took a good 45 minutes for that to come. By the time we received our food, it was warm, at best, the fish over cooked and we were out of water. Let's just say, if I had to go back, I'd probably throw a temper tantrum. I would consider giving another go, but NOT when they're swamped because they clearly cannot handle volume....or was it the server. HMMMM!

Waitresses handle money and food without washing their hands or putting on gloves in between. Took almost 10 minutes to have waitresses take my order during my short lunch break. Cooks were standing around so I knew it couldn't be that busy as there were only 2 of us at the counter and the booths were filling up AFTER I had sat down. Service was disappointing and I considered just leaving since I was limited on time. Decided to go for a milkshake, which I've heard good things about, and take it to go. Just okay and for 3.99 not worth it in my opinion. Meh.

Eaten here both weekends we've stayed in Athens. Amazing omelettes. Huge portions. Great coffee. Cheap prices. It's tradition to grab breakfast here. Good service.

Really enjoyed this diner! So adorable and nice staff! Our waitress was amazing... Got us refills to go, checked on us frequently, nice as can be, and very down to earth (didn't seem fake). I ordered a classic club and it came with fries and got a sweet tea.. All was well!!! Fries were hot and fresh!! My friend got grilled cheese and tomato soup (I quote her "this is the best grilled cheese I've ever had!") the diner was very clean and interesting! Would be a great place to take a grandparent for lunch as its set around the 50s id say.. Records and pictures from that time are on the walls! Old time milkshake machine (I believe hand-dipped shakes) our bills were that bad mine was around $10 and my friends was around $7!

Waitstaff is usually kind of stand-offish and the food isn't anything special. There are only a couple vegetarian options and everything is over priced. You're paying for the experience of eating in a dining car. The one good thing about this place is the chocolate malts, which are the best in town (though there isn't much competition).

Court Street Diner is a quaint little restaurant with a good look and some pretty good food. The cheeseburger I had was one of the best ones I've had in a long time. I'm looking forward to going back to try out the rest of the menu.

Great diner atmosphere settled literally right in the middle of Athens on court street. Waited for 20 minutes to be seated which is beyond ridiculous considering there were empty tables everywhere (there was only 1 person working so I blame that one on management)! Everything on the menu is good, if you can't decide go with the daily special (they have one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner). A milkshake always polishes off your food in an indescribable way.

I've only ever had breakfast here, so that is all I can speak for...but the french toast is delicious and the pancakes are huge! There is usually a wait and its noisy and crowded, but it is worth the inconvenience. The service is usually excellent. Make sure you get one of Deb's famous cinnamon rolls.

This is one of my favorite places for lunch in Athens along Court Street. I'm a regular; I'm the big guy at the bar with the shaved head. I've enjoyed dining in some of the best restaurants in the country, so it's hard to justify five stars, but if only. This is a great place for good quality, consistently well-prepared diner food at reasonable prices and close to the OU campus. I have never had a bad experience here, everything is of high quality and well prepared. The hand-dipped milkshakes and loaded baked potato soup are truly special. Understanding that it is a very popular campus hangout, the place gets busy and fills up fast during the obvious times of day. Handicapping for those times, service and cleanliness in the front of the house is invariably excellent. The wait staff is always great, attentive, and welcoming. It is clear everyone (usually) has a great time; the it takes a lot of hard work to run the place, but treat them with respect and appreciation and they'll take care of you. Overall, one of the best places on Court Street, if not all of Athens. A highly-recommended place.

Second time here...great burgers, fun atmosphere. I've only been here for lunch but think I have to try breakfast soon. If you're a 50s fan you'll love this spot! The turkey burger was very good and hands down the best tater tots ever.

Know this place does lunch and dinner but don't know why it doesn't come up on a search for breakfasts. Had bfast there on a sleepy Sunday AM (they serve it all day long) and contrary to other reviewers the food was great, the service great and we didn't have to wait very long. It will definitely be a stopover on future trips to Columbus. Getting only a 4 because...well, it's a diner!

We went here while in Athens. We were going to order dinner but nothing really struck me on the menu. So dessert it was!! Chocolate pie and a chocolate chip milkshake. It was delicious but be warned the piece of cake will feed two to three people. It was huge!! needless to say I couldn't finish it. The seating was in booth in a diner setting. It wasn't busy and the waiter was a little slow for not be very busy. She was very nice though.

Very inexpensive food and good to have for breakfast or for lunch, since they have breakfast all day long.

We just decided to try this dinner on a whim and the eclectic theme is about all to come for. I had the Chili burger with Mac n cheese as my side. The Chili is rather bland along with the burger itself, and the mac n cheese has no flavor besides the seasoned bread crumbs on the top. Our server acted like she didn't want to be here either. Don't think we will ever come back!

Everything you'd expect from a "diner" with pretty good food and service. Why we probably really go there....location location location. An ideal place to get a bite to eat and people watch on Court St.

Nice diner food. You'd think it would be hard to mess up diner food but, trust me, I've had some terrible diner food. Court Street Diner is pretty consistently good, in my experience. Try getting the special. Omelette specials and breakfast burrito special are the best.

Okay, I get it, everyone is too hungover in Athens to work on Sunday mornings. How else do you explain the fact that in the three mornings I had breakfast in this town, two recommended places were closed, the hotel had a self-serve continental consisting of rubber eggs and watery coffee, and two places had crowds of twenty-forty guests with only ONE WAITPERSON? Such was the case with the Court Street Diner. Food was adequate; exactly what one would expect from a diner. Only complaint here was that the cinnamon rolls which were so *highly* touted on the menu were out, which made my friend Steve very grumpy. And yet again, for the second morning in a row (at a different place) we had a server who seemed really angry that folks showed up for breakfast (and then proceeded to ask for cinnamon rolls!) I hear (from the menu) that those rolls are good though, so if you get a chance check it out. Maybe just wait til noon.

Good diner food and good portions. I like the authentic look to the place with the silver outside. The breakfast is good, but the huevos was missing the jalapenos. Still the portion was very large.

Typical 50's style diner with the accompanying art on the walls. Menu seemed modern and attempts to be a step above however, fresher and maybe even healthier... Busy when we were there, waited just a bit for a table, but service was prompt and courteous. Very good flavors and very generous portions. Very good at what they do, just not "over the top".
