I recently went to the Evergreens Tavern & Drive-Thru on my way back from Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "The Greens" as it is nicknamed these days was the one time hangout of Ashland, OH native and racing superstar, the late Tim Richmond. The Greens has a sign honoring the old patron and native son of town. The inside has wood panel walls, several tables for eating at, a large u shaped bar. (There is also an outside bar for smoking). There is also a drive up car port in back to buy food and beverages to go. The menu is standard tavern/bar fare. I had the "Horsey Burger" which was a cheese burger with a large amount of a horseradish spread. (Also got banana peppers fried on it too) It was messy but really tasty. Burgers come with potato chips. I ordered two sides the Cucumber Salad, and Cole Slaw. Both were very large portions and a great bargain. The Cole Slaw is very good, as was the Cucumber Salad. The Cucumbers are cut thick in theirs unlike normal Cucumber Salads in other places. The entire meal with a soda was just at $10. Not a bad large portion for the price. Also the bar has several beers on tap, and in bottles and cans. They offer French bread pizza there including a "Ruben Pizza" which is a Ruben made in a French bread pizza form. They also sell scratch off Lotto tickets, and have a video Keno game where they pick the numbers on a closed circuit TV played at the bar. If you win there is a scanner on the wall to claim the prize. The décor is wood panels with what you would expect to find in a "Biker Bar", lots of beer brands signs, some bike and NASCAR stuff. On the wall out side the ladies room is a mini shrine to Tim Richmond with a plaque, poster, and newspaper article on the NASCAR legend, and 1980 Indy 500 Rookie of the Year. Inside the men's room are many posters of babes in bikinis. Just what I would expect from a place Tim Richmond hung out at. Outside you can get Coke or Pepsi products from the vending machines for 50 cents a can. Yes, still a place with cans from a machine for under a buck! The map spot is slightly off, the Evergreen is just a little more south on Route 60. It is next to the Brethren Care Village a few yards north of 42. I would recommend this place for fans of burgers, and tavern fare. The only complaint I have is the bar had the audio up for Fox News on the TVs while I was there. I don't care for any cable news network at a bar, it is a buzz kill of good times. Otherwise a great place, with friendly as can be service.
