Food is good and portions are generous, no doubt on that. The place however is run down: it's old, there are no lights in the kitchen and workers don't use appropriate working cloths. I wish Mr Chen to revamp the appearance of his shop and it's definitely a 5 stars.

We're working our way through the menu..which BTW, has the BEST format for ordering on line I think I've ever used. My husband does the pick up, so I don't know what the place looks like, but the food's good. It's worth ordering a small size of what you want to try, because they cram a lot of food in that small box! They have Yat Gaw Mein soup, which usually I've only seen in NYC. My husband is sold on their sweet and sour, and my favorite so far is the Vegetable Pad Thai, (that's a bit more expensive, but really good) The noodles with peanut/sesame sauce is a bit gloppy though. Sauteed string beans really good, and great to order as an extra because it keeps well in fridge. Beef with Chinese veggies, so so. The dim sum were really good, and seriously, the app size is enough for a meal. My husband said that by the 2nd time he went to pick up, they knew him, and the order is always ready when he gets there. And, they take AMEX which is a plus for me. We tried this place because some fool of a super managed to set fire to the building that housed our former go-to Chinese place, and we were pleasantly surprised. I've already recommended this place to my neighbors, and on FaceBook.

Nice little take out place in the strip mall. I disagree though with fellow Yelpers on portions being generous, but the upside is the food is quite delicious In 2008 this place won an award for top 100 takeout places in the area. There is a picture of the owner with the famous TV chef personality "Martin Yan" as he receives his trophy that year. The trophy is displayed in the restaurant as well. Great food and moderately priced, you can't go wrong.

We've eaten a lot of fast food Chinese food and mr chen's is pretty bad. We ordered a variety of dishes (chicken with broccoli, steamed veggies with garlic sauce, Sichuan chicken, and fired rice). They used too much bamboo shoots in their cooking and the sauces were not very good. We will not be ordering from here again.

Had take out from there to tonight. Excellent ! In short, the food was as fresh and delicious as the very best I have ever had--including my 7 trips to China. We had veggies and shrimp, beef veggies, and chicken and veggies. And friend rice. I'll be back!

For all you business travelers- this is the only Chinese takeout place nearby that accepts AMEX!!! Just a heads up. Mongolian beef was good, house fried rice was good, egg drop soup was good. I ordered chicken chow mein and there were no noodles in it. It was this weird chicken and onion white jelly concoction. If I ever come back here, I'm sticking to the basics.

All the things I love about take-out chinese. Super cheap lunch specials? Check Online ordering? Check Children put to work behind the counter? Check I'm not sure why I like the last one so much, maybe because I love and appreciate family run businesses. Most lunch specials are under $6. I really like the Sesame Chicken and the hot & sour soup here. mrchensrestaurant.com

Oh Mr. Chen's... you and I have a love hate relationship. You're tasty and inexpensive, but you aren't all that close and tend to take a VERY long time to prepare your cuisine. You have helped make some of those long days at school go by a little faster. Your student specials are awesome and you give a nice amount of food with each dish. Apparently you have some plaques there for being in the top 100 chinese food places on LI (or something along those lines) BUT your sesame chicken and your general tsao chicken taste almost identical, which is disappointing and makes me question the validity of said plaques. Guess we shall never know for sure Chens but rest assured, I shall be back. (Thus ends what will probably be my oddest review yet). In all seriousness this place is pretty good and worth checking out.

Been taking out food from here for yrs. but today the food was so very bad. I would give it a zero if I could. I order gen tso chicken . It was horrible. Very very greasy, fried food should never be greasy like this. According to their own menu it chunks of chicken . I don't think there was an ounce of chicken in the dish. I got a lot of fried strips of something, but it sure wasn't chicken. The sauce was also horrible. Not the thick tasty sauce that is expected. Poor flavor, very thick. What a waste of money . I through it in the trash. I also ordered beef with satay sauce . The sauce was thin and had little flavor. This place has really gone down hill. I will never order from there ever again.

OH MR CHEN'S! I weep for you. So yummy. So nommy. I ate you every night as a broke college student at Hofstra University. Only twice in 4 years did you fail me and serve me over/under/something was wrong with it cooked Chinese. And that's okay, because you sure as hell made up for it the other 5282331 bazillion times. Boneless Spare Ribs = mmmmmm, Wonton Soup = mmmmm, Friend Wontons = mmmmm, House Fried Rice = yeaaaaahhhh, Pork with Mixed Vegetables = ohhhh laaaaawd, Chicken With Broccoli = MY ADDICTION!!!!! I tried to give you up for lent, which was hilarious because that didn't even come close to happening, you were so great you made me into a bad Catholic. Everytime someone is visiting me from NY i beg them to order some of your food and to freeze and bring it to me :'( THE ONLY CON WITH YOU??? = Your delivery man has long finger nails, which is kinda creepy.

This is takeout Chinese. We tried sesame chicken and an egg roll, which were pretty good and the price was right. Big improvement over Great Wall on Stewart Ave and easier on the wallet than Orchid!
