Location, location, location. So incredibly beautiful. The welcoming patio which is literally on the Hudson can not be beat. Sat there on a balmy night, watched passing boats and enjoyed a lovely dinner the night before my son started college. What a great memory. Our fish and chips, sole and truffle mac n cheese was also very good. Generous portions. Would recommend.

The food and the setting give it 4 stars. Our server was great, but the service in general could use a little improvement. The place was half empty when we arrived for lunch at 2:30. I asked for a table in the shade and was met with total attitude. Finally we were lead to a table on the terrace under a big umbrella over looking the water. Nice spot. The menu offers lots of choice. My father and daughter had fish & chips. My husband has a reubin sandwich. I had a steak salad. Everyone was very happy with their choices. There is a long list of beers on tap. We ordered 2. Not so happy with those choices. After asking several time, they did finally bring water for the people and for the dog. After lunch walk north along the river and take the free elevator up to the pedestrian bridge across the Hudson for some excellent views.

My boyfriend and I approached the hostess station. We stood there and watched the hostess and several waiters walk by without even making eye contact. We took a menu to check it out and listened to this unprofessional conversation between the hostess and a waiter who were standing RIGHT in front of us. Waiter: Those people left Hostess: Who? Waiter: The people who were sitting there (pointing to an empty table with no water or menus) Hostess: Whatever.... Us: BYE! This place should really either hire new staff or train their staff and pay them more. And get a hostess who is friendly and approachable.

Today was my 2nd visit to this restaurant, in about a month. Both times, I had French onion soup. It was good. I found their version to be the same as those I had in France: crusty bread, gratinée cheese. My 1st dinner here was a pan seared fish with sautéed vegetables. It was tasty & fresh. The weather was very nice. So outside seating was a good idea with a good view of the Hudson River. This evening, my dinner was grilled pork chop , seasonal vegetables & gooseberry coulis. The meat was cooked to a barely pink, so it was moist & tender. The gooseberry coulis was surprisingly good: citrusy, fragrant yet light. My dessert was a slice of cheesecake with thinly sliced strawberries & fresh whipped cream. It had the right amount of sweetness. It went well with black coffee. I find its service staff friendly, efficient & professional. Yes, the price is at the high side. But I will be back next time I am in town.

This was my second visit to the ice house. First time was wonderful, the second not so much. We were seated, told us our waiter would be right over. After 1/2 hour we asked another server. Who was kind enough to take our order, she had no idea where our server went. The table next to us that was seated after us has already had their food served. We ordered the rib special, which was suppose to include ribs, corn, mashed potatoes and cornbread. The meal showed up with the cornbread replaced with coffee cake. It would have been nice if they told us that at the time of order. Who puts coffee cake with barbecue? The potatoes were ice cold had to send them back only for them to nuke the potatoes and coffee cake. So disappointed. I hope others have a better experience.

SUPER excited to try this place after hearing about it for months. My parents have been a few times so we gave them a gift card for Christmas. This last weekend, we were able to finally stop in for dinner. We arrived at 5pm (had to come early with a new baby in tow) and were seated outside under an umbrella. Our waitress came over right away and we ordered our drinks. We placed our order and enjoyed the warm (sweltering) weather. Our meals arrived quickly, everything from duck, to steak, to scallops and a taco salad. Our meals were all good. They weren't out of this world and they weren't terrible. The food was a step above average but we weren't blown out of the water. Cons. waitstaff was constantly clearing a plate here and a plate there instead of allowing everyone to finish their meals before removing it all at once. That's not relaxing. While one guy was clearing the table he dropped the bowl of butter. He was holding a glass of water and ended up spilling that all over the place while trying to clean the butter. Luckily, everything fell on the ground and not ON anyone, but he was trying to do too much all at once. I don't put fault on him, I just don't think he was trained properly overall. We ordered our dessert and here's where the negatives started. We had felt rushed from the moment we sat down but when it came time for dessert, we waited....and we waited....and we waited...and waited some more. We ordered one gelato and one crepe. It must have taken well over 15 minutes for these to arrive. At this point we were getting hot, bothered, antsy and frustrated. We lost our mood and wanted to leave but then we couldn't find our waitress. Our dessert FINALLY arrived and then it was impossible to find our waitress to get the check (they have separate food runners). That put a damper on the evening and helped knock a star off this place. Overall, setting is beautiful. Mostly beautiful. It's towards the heart, downtown of Poughkeepsie nears the Projects. There are people constantly walking by with their pets, on bikes, on skateboards, boats going in and out...I didn't necessarily sit too easy. If it were real late at night I honestly would not feel comfortable or safe walking to my car in this section. I think the restaurant should be a little more private and not allow just anyone to be walking around, through the seating area. I did not go inside so I can't talk about that. I would definitely come back and try this place again for the outside seating and the view if nothing else but in my opinion, there are much better places for the same money and better quality.

Very cute place on the water.. Service is good.. Food tasted great but a little on the heavy side.. Definitely somewhere to go when the weather is nice.. Beautiful views of the hudson river.. Pet friendly if you eat outside so make sure you bring your furry friends with you

Casual eatery on the eastern bank of the Hudson River directly between the Mid Hudson Bridge and the Walkway over the Hudson. Great views, decent food and okay service. I had the fish and chips and an IPA which were perfect on a hot summer day. Could certainly see this as a great place to grab some drinks after a day on the river or exploring the walkway. Worth a visit.

This place only gets a star for it's location and view. What a missed opportunity. The staff was terrible. I think we might have come at an awkward shift change but we were not acknowledged after seating for a good 15-20 mins. Well we did get water, from a blonde who did not smile or speak. Luckily a waiter at a table in another section noticed us enough to help us finally. He sent over our waiter who told us he was leaving and being relieved by another girl who never showed. Again the other waiter helped us after being called over. Food was ehh. If it wasn't for the one attentive waiter who wasn't assigned our table I would have called management to complain. Such a shame staff brings down a place that could otherwise have such great potential. I work in hospitality nearby and won't be recommending this to our guests at all! Go to nearby Nic L inn instead.

Sadly, I have to update this review to say that whatever the formula was for the toffee blondie seems to have changed. Now, it really isn't very good at all. It's dry and so sweet that it actually makes your teeth ache after only one bite. Nothing even close to the original. It was sad, because I took my out of town friends here, specifically because I raved about the deserts and the view, and we were certainly disappointed. Luckily, the view can't really change! We also tried the peach fritters which were oversized doughy globs with little orange chunks in them. I think the chunks were masquerading as peaches, however, the taste was certainly not there. Very sad decline for a restaurant that only ever had sub-par food to begin with.

had dinner, ate on the patio. Great service. Fast. Food great. Lobster roll was awesome, clams and shrimp cocktail were fresh and wonderful. Location is great if you want to be on the river. Pricey, however. Will recommend, very enjoyable. Just bring plenty of cash!

Very cool spot! Apparently they just re-opened and I happened to stop in. Everything was very crisp and we'll done. The menu was the right size with what seemed to be a rotating fresh take on some seasonal items. Decent beers on tap and the food was very solid, well plated and enjoyable. Couple details I love: warm bread AND warm butter; often not done. The portions were very nice but not so much that you had no choice but to do a to-go container; my peeve is over sized portions that creates lots of waste. Staff was knowledgeable on the menu and I appreciate a good recommendation on the eats and the hostess and waiter both were great for steering me in the right direction on a great seat and what to eat. Overall a really nice choice that should be tried. Good for a date and dinner with friends, probably not a family spot or good for kids, not the they couldn't accommodate that but it would impact the vibe; it's definitely a grown up crowd.

Ughh...Too loud. The people and the music were so loud it was nearly impossible to hear the conversations at my own table. Food wasn't memorable at all and no full bar.

I'm still wary of dining here in the summer when inexperienced staff are hired to meet demand but I did eat here yesterday and was pleased that the service and food were back to what I was used to. Our server was very attentive and pleasant. We all ordered from the limited time taste of Hudson menu. The arancini, NY strip steak, and toffee blondie cake were the winners of all the courses.

Great view! Good food! Horrible drinks! No liquor license (although they do serve wine) they've elected to serve mock drinks, e.g., Margaritas and Daiquiris made from a Saki base, both served in a Ball Jar (talk about cute!). The sour tastes were enough to kill what looked like fine food, as did the built in pretension of it all.

What a cute little spot. Went there for trivia last night, had a blast -- they have trivia every Wednesday from 7:30 - 9:30 PM. They do not have liquor, but have sake, a zillion wines & beers. I had Sauvignon Blanc and it was delicious. Also tried the scallops for an appetizer, which were very good. Friends had the strip steak, french onion soup and salad -- all were pleased. Looking forward to going back for dinner -- I really like the atmosphere of the dining room with the lights.

Had lunch here with hubby middle of week - crab cakes and shrimp & corn chowder soup for starters, fish & chips and the steak for entrees. Food was satisfactory ("blondie cake" dessert was too sweet) and service was very good! It's on the waterfront so awesome view! Dinner choices must be better and will try the Mac n Cheese for next time! Also have an interesting list of draught beers and they let me sample a fruit/veggie beer :-)

I had lunch there on Sunday (6/21) and it was terrible. The location is great and has terrific views but the service was abysmal. Once seated we didn't see our waiter for at least 20 minutes. When he did finally show he was less than enthusiastic, like he'd rather be anywhere else. A different waiter delivered our food and we literally never saw our waiter again. After we finished and sat there amongst dirty plates and empty glasses we finally saw the manager and called him over. He apologized and reduced our bill but by then we were really just completely unhappy. Even the desserts we ordered to go were wrong. We left them and walked out. A altogether terrible experience.

COME FOR THE VIEW, NOT THE FOOD. The outdoor seating provides a great view of the Hudson River and the Mid-Hudson and Walkway bridges. The service was ok. The food left much to be desired. The seafood bisque was very skimpy on the chunks of seafood. At $8 for a small bowl, I expected more. The fish and chips were average at best, with the fish itself not being very fresh. Blue Collar Brewery does a much better fish and chips platter, at a lower price. I requested extra crispy fries, and they were lukewarm and soggy. Overall, I was disappointed. Pack a lunch and eat it at the neighboring public park. You'll get the same view with better quality food.

Have been to the Ice House a few times during the 2014 season, and between the food and service it was always above good. So since this was such a beautiful Saturday we decided to visit the Ice House again. Yes the view of the Hudson River and the bridges is always nice, I wish I could say the same for the experience. The waiter was OK and with time could be good. The meal well, ordered a steak "black & blue" and told the waiter if the chef (cook) cannot do Black & blue let me know and I would order something else. So the steak came out and was medium well, yes sent it back and out came a second one,pan seared one side over done the other side just browned. Not black blue. 2 dinner's sent back. While another dinner being served menu states. Catfish W/sweet potato fries. Out comes the catfish dinner with regular fries. Waiter apologize and you thing the manager would come to the table. No manager till I asked to see the manager. Manager came over to the table and said yes I knew there was a problem. He said yes but could alone make excuses. Most likely will go back, but at that time will order appetizers only

The restaurant is located on the Hudson waterfront with nice views and a breeze. There's nothing special about the food here and most of the drinks are a bit pricey. I had the fig and chicken sandwich and I was disappointed to see that the "fig" was actually large chunks of fig preserve that lack flavor and acted more as a burden on the sandwich. The truffle fries looked interesting so I had to try it, but it was also a disappointment. The fries were overdone and I could barely taste the truffle oil. I prefer the regular fries which were tastier and cooked just enough without the extra charge. The fried fish was full of batter but was a bit better than the chicken sandwich. On the upside, our server was very entertaining and attentive.

My girlfriend and I did not have a great experience last week. This was the third time we went here and the second time we sat outdoors. While the view of the Hudson is great, the boat launch nearby has caused unwanted noise and fumes both times due to boats being launched. The food was good. The raw oysters were great, the bread is good, and the seafood Mac n cheese was delicious. However, the service is terrible. We waited way too long for drinks, bread, and food. There were times during our dinner where we were both out of drinks and waiting for a while to see if our waitress would ever reappear. The thing about the service that bothered me the most was that the place was not very busy. Based on this past experience, we probably will not be back.

Visiting the area and thought we'd try it. Awesome view and outdoor seating on the Hudson River. Seafood bisque was delicious. I was expecting the same with the fish and chips but it was way too puffy and batter was overwhelming he fish. If you're looking for just some nice hangout, order a beer and some appetizers.

I have been here several times before tonight and was never disappointed , that is until tonight . Service was actually non existent . The hostess brought us a glass of water . We never saw a waitress . Were never asked if we were being helped . Nada , nothing , zilch , zippo . Other waiters and waitresses walked past us and never asked . Grossly disappointed tonight .

It's Labor Day 2014 and my partner and I decide to give Ice House a try for a nice lunch in the Hudson River Valley. FAIL! We waited ten minutes outside in line with other would be patrons to speak with the host before leaving. After five minutes of not being acknowledged, we wandered around the inside of the restaurant - tons of seats (just like outside). After ten minutes of watching the disheveled host wander about moving tables, and watching waitresses return to his station to grab menus he forgot to seat patrons with - we started discussing the situation with the other stranded diners outside. We all guessed that they were under staffed for the day as all the waiters and waitresses looked mightily hurried. It happens - but communicate with your customers! My problem: don't leave customers wondering what's going on. For a restaurant at this price point in the Hudson Valley - they need to work on having better management and organization. As an aside - we've been twice before over the course of the year and the food was about an 7.5 to 8 (pretty good). They need to pull it together if they want to make it - the food and wait staff they have seem wonderful but poor management has made all of our experiences mediocre.

I went there with my husband last week. We had a horrible experience. I was very surprised. We had been there one time before and had a great time. The waitress was horrible and very slow. The burger my husband got was not even cooked he had to send it back. Beautiful view but that is it.

I've dined here a few times in the past, and while it was good at the time, it's gone downhill in recent times; My group's dinner experience this past weekend was very poor. We were seated promptly after arriving, but things started to go downhill from there. Our drinks took a full 35 minutes to arrive after ordering, of which one persons was missing; It took an additional 10 min before the missing drink turned up. For a place that doesn't have a liquor license and only serves beer and wine, I can't see why it would take so long to bring out something that requires little to no prep. We did not receive any place settings until we had to ask for them, and had to ask a second time as not enough bread plates were brought out the first time. The appetizers were ok, seafood bisque was decent but the salad left a bit to be desired. It took almost 1.5 hours for our entrees to be served, with one entree served 15 min after all the others. Waiting out of courtesy resulted in all our food being cold. What killed it for us was the service, or lack thereof. Our server was a scarce commodity, making things like a simple water or bread refill hard to come by. When she did come by, she was unprofessional and at times snippy. For the money, we expected better than this. We will not be returning again.

Great location, knowledgeable waiter and excellent food. However, after taking our order it was over 1 hour until the meal arrived. And.... that was only after speaking with the manager. Surprised when the manager attempted to reverse sitution and make the kitchen issue/ customer volume mine and not theirs. Would like to recommend but really do not consider their kitchen issue a one night stand. To bad.

From start to finish... the meal was a great experience. I took my partner there for his birthday and couldn't have picked a better restaurant. The service was perfect. The food, top notch. The space was small and a bit crowded but not noisy and actually felt comfy. Coming from a foodie town like Philadelphia, our expectations were high, and this place met all of them. Our waitress, Brianna, was fun, warm, and knowledgable about the menu. My partner couldn't stop talking about how this was the best birthday dinner. Thanks all at the Ice House!!

Not bad...gave this place a second try after a bad experience awhile back due to service. This time though I was only in for drinks and a app. Went on a Saturday night, place was absolutely dead at 845, which I thought was weird. Bartender was friendly and attentive. Would go back to give dinner a try, hope business is doing okay. Place is really nice and has so much potential.

My absolute new favorite restaurant in the Hudson Valley! This is seriously on par with my other favorite - Henry's at the Farm over in Milton. FOOD - has some serious chutzpah and love. They have the farm to table style down pat; and seriously the best butternut squash Ive ever had. ATMOSPHERE - is heavenly; people often make the mistake of going to SHADOWS for the view; but this has equally or even better of a view. I went during the winter so sat inside but I can't wait until it warms up and we can go outside on the patio! The inside is lovely, would absolutely love to come and just read a book during the day and stay until dinner. BEER BEER BEER - the best beer selection I've seen in Po-town; phenomenal selection of craft brews. TIPS - This is right past the train station; it's a tad difficult to find but just spend that extra minute to seek the shores for this little gem and you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Management (I sure hope you read this): Please stop using a paper and pen based system for reservations and seating arrangements. It's 2014. This is inefficient. I saw you turn away a table of 12 to wait for a group that never came. That's silly. You also lied to me about the table by the water that we asked for. It wasn't reserved by the people you sat there three minutes after you sat after us. They also didn't want those seats because it had no shade. The food was great and the service was excellent. Management was a different story.

We've been before and love that our dog is welcome on the patio for brunch. The views can't be beat and it's lovely sitting outside on a nice day. Have never been a big fan of the food but it appears that it's gotten worse. We went this morning and our server was very nice and personable. The food took quite awhile, not the end of the world. However, the food left much to be desired. My waffle was cold and rubbery and topped with 3 slices of strawberries (it was supposed to be served with fruit), my husbands steak and eggs were fine, nothing special, but his potatoes looked like they came out of a bag of ore ida. Overall, we don't mind spending more for a nice meal, but this was definitely not worth it. With the culinary institute down the road, they should take advantage and hire a qualified kitchen staff.

Place is great, the food was exquisite, very filling. I do have to say that farm to table staple is great, the staff is warm and very courteous. Only one thing that was annoying was that when my GPS ran the address it took me about 20 minutes out of my way maybe it's a problem with my phone. I rate this restaurant a four.

I visited the Ice House a couple of times now but was always inside. On Sun 6/9/13 me and my friends (4 of us with one baby) wanted to sit outside on the patio. We were told to wait 45min at the bar. At this time there were 2 tables prepared for larger groups and maybe 5 tables already occupied. I counted at least 6 tables not occupied and not even setup. I asked why we could not have any of those and were told the expect a group of 6 and 8. I replied I can see that and in her book were only these 2 reservations. But she would not give us any table. I have no idea why we couldn't sit outside, there was no further explanations. Perhaps because they are not kid friendly and didn't want a baby outside. We went to Shadows on the Hudson instead and had no problems there. I really like this place and the food they have there but with one ignorant waitress you can really harm your business. I might give them one more chance but if I experience the same again I will choose a different place in the future.

I've been here a few times and the last time I went the service was pretty slow. Normally I wouldn't get too upset about that, but it was late and there weren't many people there since it was during the week. The food is alright and the outdoor seating has a great view of the Hudson and the Mid Hudson bridge.

Done lunch and dinner there. Great casual lunch atmosphere on patio feet from the water. Per friendly with great service to boot. They greet your pet with water before you! lol. Delicious sandwiches and plating. Reasonably priced. As for dinner, creative specials limit your ability to have a "go to" on their menu. Service is slower but in a good way. Wait staff times their visits to you well allowing plenty of time to read menu and specials and have great conversation. At the same time Johnny on the spot with refills. No liquor for being in a park is a downside but creative sake cocktails bails them out a bit there. Scallops are perfect when their on their seasonally changing menu. Go And see.

We dined here on Christmas Eve and in all honesty I would give it three and a half stars but you can't do half stars on yelp, but four stars is too much. The Ice House has a very comfortable atmosphere with exposed brick and simple amazing views. One reason three stars is the best I can give is the booths along the wall while being high up is nice, the slightest movement from the person in the booth behind you and you feel as if your actually floating on the river rocking with the wake of passing boats. I did find the menu to be interesting and almost intriguing. For starters I had the pig & apples which is pork belly and an apple slaw. It was very tasty though perhaps it should be served with a serrated knife or the kitchen could cut the pork belly into smaller pieces, it was rather difficult to cut the pork with the butter knife I had. I also would have like more apple in the slaw but that is a personal preference. My son had little necks on the half shell and he said they were good with the exception of a fairly large amount of bits broken shells in the clams. My wife had the fried calamari and it was excellent, very tender and seasoned very well, that was an appetizer I certainly would order again! Before I talk about the main course I feel I need to make a general rant! It seems more and more restaurants are putting wines on their wine menus with twist tops and while I understand this is suppose to be a better way to preserve the wine, I don't care for it. If I am forking out 35 dollars of more for a 10 dollar bottle of wine, I want a cork in it! I want a show! I want the server to have to work a little and not just twist off the cap! Perhaps a designation on the wine lists might be helpful so I know ahead of time what I am buying! As I said this is happening more and more and not just at the Ice House. As for my main course I had the duck breast which was cooked to order and was just a little tough though it might have just been sliced a tad to thick. The Brussel Spouts were in a word amazing! Our server said they deep fry them for a few seconds added a whole new dimension to them. My wife had the pork chop which she said was very good and said she would order it again. My son choice was the short ribs and when it comes to short ribs I differ to his judgement! He said they were good, not great, but good. He named three other places where he felt he had tastier short ribs. We also had a side of sweet potatoes which were spicy but very good contrast with the marshmallows on top! We shared a couple desserts we had the bread pudding which was fairly dry and nothing to really write home about. And we also had a toffee crunch type dessert which was very good! As for service anyone that had read any of my reviews knows I put a premium on service. Bad service can ruin a great meal, but great food has to be really outstanding to make up for bad service. I found the service at The Ice House to be very good if not excellent, I only wish my wine had a cork in it. I think from now on I am just going to refuse twist tops and ask for the list again. Just a personal preference. We will certainly dine here again in the future and if you haven't you should try it too!

Enjoyed a nice Sunday brunch here with a group of six. Food was well prepared and nicely presented. The 'brunch' items on the menu include a complementary glass of champange or Mimosa, which is a nice touch. The menu included eggs benedict and a lobster eggs benedict as well(my choice). Note that Sunday midday menu is the brunch menu only, not the regular lunch menu. Only minor issues: Service was a little on the slow side, but not terrible, and the design of the place makes it a bit loud.

Had lunch at this great new addition to P'ok, right on the Hudson River with great views of the Walkway and the Mid-Hudson Bridge. It's only a stone's throw from the train station. Love the exposed brick inside and the great river views from almost every table. Nice selection of beer and wine, which was reasonably priced and my wine was a generous pour. All of the specials in addition to the regular menu sounded so good - we had a hard time deciding. We chose French Onion Soup, Curried Vegetable Soup, Cuban Panini and Salmon Teriyaki Wrap. All of the food was delicious. The fries were seasoned perfectly - we didn't even need ketchup. Red potato salad was fresh, but a bit too much mayo for my taste, but that's a personal preference, and my husband loved them. One of the owners, Matt, came around and talked to the tables, which is always a nice touch! Waitstaff was friendly and efficient. I'm really looking forward to dining outside on the patio in the warmer months and attending the summer events they have planned.

We enjoyed an excellent meal. The food was fresh, very ample portions and had lots of flavor. The quality was excellent. The staff was outstanding, very professional, courteous and went out of their way to insure our dining experience was great. The servers Brianna, BrieAnna were truly exceptional. The manager Justin also stopped by our table to make sure we were satisfied. I highly recommend this place and intend to go back for their Octoberfest in October. Great ambiance and beautiful view of the Hudson River.

Beautiful location and friendly waitstaff. Unfortunately we were there on a busy evening and it took nearly 2 hours! for our food to arrive. The manager (who never appeared in person to talk to us) offered us free deserts - which was hard to accept because it would have required us to stay even later... Of the four meals we ordered, only the steak was exceptional - the others were merely average. The location is awesome on a nice night - but I'd go to a second best view to get first best food and service. Would not repeat.

Won't be back. Service was abysmal, food was adequate but on the pricey side for what you receive. Nice riverside setting. But it felt like it was opening day for this place and they just couldn't pull it together. Waiter was friendly enough but seemed overwhelmed. Too bad because it's a nice location and a decent concept. Last time here was a while ago and that experience was fine. But judging by tonight's experience and other recent reviews (which I wish i'd read first) something is amiss. Save yourself the trouble until (or if) they get their problems solved.

The real attraction of this place is the river view and the outdoor seating is fantastic on nice day. The food was good and served fast. We just had some simple lunch items, which were all good (not great). The staff and service were all very good.

Another place that is using its prime location on the water and the walkway to serve mediocre food, mediocre service to make money. It is the only place in Poughkeepsie other that Shadows where you can eat on the water. I think they have turned the place into a "walkway cash cow" since the elevator opened. I have read reviews in Hudson Valley Magazine and was hoping to enjoy a unique dining experience. What I found was "Applebees on the Hudson". Walking in you have at least 3 people simply standing in the seating area. I thought the cluster was temporary but this cluster of employees doing literally nothing lasted until the end of our dining experience. Really only takes one person to seat people, ummm I think? Our waitress was cordial but not really friendly or concerned. Blonde with ponytail, you could tell she did not want to be there. The prices are very high and the menu is somewhat limited. Like I said, taking clear advantage of the monopoly they have on the waterfront. We ordered, fish and chips platter 15 dollars, signature burger 15 dollars, served on a hamburger bun that collapsed and fell apart because it was cheap and a bit stale, burger so dry and tasteless, you needed to drink another beer. The roasted chicken dinner had to be sent back because the chicken was raw. POSITIVES: great views of the Hudson and the bridge and walkway, nice beer selection and the interior is nice inside an old icehouse from turn of the century, I would probably prefer to come back in the fall and sit inside for lunch. My advice, avoid the ice house unless you want to take a quick pit stop for beverages. It is not what is was supposed to be, go up the street on Main, there are much better choices for better quality food and a MUCH more reasonable price. Then just walk in the park, take the elevator up the walkway and enjoy the river that way without getting ripped off.

Reason for the 4 stars: Best outdoor seating with stunning views of the Hudson, specially in the fall! Appetizers were pretty decent. I must come back and try the dinner entrees.

Great view of the majestic Hudson River and the bridges. Friendly service, fairly good food, average prices. A great place to eat on a sunny day.

Came here for the 1st time this week for lunch. We brought friends from out of town and we're not disappointed. Our service was prompt and our waitress was very funny and friendly. She was also knowledgeable about the origins of the building and had some interesting stories. The French onion soup is really good and with lots of cheese on top. The ceasar salad was huge and very good as well. Others at my table ordered sandwiches which they all enjoyed and the tomatoes bisque was on special and very flavorful. Overall, a good experience and we will be back to check out the views and the patio in the warmer months.

Great location and views! We only went for dessert and drinks on a busy Saturday evening and were seated quickly in the outdoor seating. View of bridge at night is fantastic! Wait staff was very nice, only problem was the hostess (who we told we were only there for dessert) didn't communicate this to the waitress. Waitress seated us and gave us dinner menus only. We had a wait a long time for her to come back and ask for the dessert menu. I ordered the Peach Fritters, menu stated they were dusted. I pictured them lightly dusted with powdered sugar, but they arrived rolled in granulated sugar...definitely not "dusted". There was some entertainment which was somewhat enjoyable although a bit too loud. I can't comments on the dinner food, but what we saw coming out "looked" good. I'm amazed overall on how nice the Pok. waterfront has become!

Went for the first time with five other people for lunch. The food was excellent. The calamari cooked to perfection. Seafood bisque was creamy and delicous. Ruben and hot corned beef was as good as a city deli. Dessert was a treat. Warm apple frittes in cinnamon and sugar with a side of ice cream. Service was excellent. Everyone would return. Looking out at the frozen Hudson River was pretty awesome.

We've been to the Ice House twice now. Twice, because, well, it just has a stellar location, and based on our first experience - which was fair to middling at best - we wanted to give it the benefit of the doubt, and try again. Trip #2 and I am done with the Ice House. At best, the food is passable. At worst...not so much. To their credit, the wait staff keyed right in on my dissatisfaction with my mussels, and erased them from the bill. But the kitchen should be ashamed of themselves for serving them in the first place. They were, well, the opposite of fresh - and had the scent to prove it. I also had some fried oysters, half of which were fine (if unremarkable) - the other half, over battered and undercooked, leaving me to consume some raw batter. Yum! Not. So disappointed. An absolute marquee Po-town summer location, but the food simply doesn't deliver. Have drinks here and head elsewhere for dinner.

I went to this place when it first opened and it was mediocre but we decided to give it another try and I am glad we did. The menu has been changed and they have now extended their alcohol selection. The Moroccan sliders were terrific as were the truffle fries. We sat out on the patio and our dog was welcome. Overall, It is a good step toward making use of the Poughkeepsie waterfront.

Great view,! Good food! Most of the service staff was good! But our primary waitress was a FAIL. Kept on disappearing on us. Waited 20 minutes before she bothered to take our order. Need an attitude adjustment.

The food was excellent. I want their canoe chandelier! Amber, our waitress is really very nice but could be a bit faster. Again, the food is excellent. Service..eh. This restaurant is a find, particularly when you don't really know the area.

What do you get when you put tables full of people, bumped up against a 5 ft by 8 ft window with a close view of the hudson river, which means no shade trees? You guessed it, roasted customers. And others were complaining also. Hey Owners, there are 3 Home Depot's and one Lowe's on Route 9. Pick up some blinds, and call me. I will install them because " I WORK FOR FOOD "

It was a nice fall night for river front dining. The line was short and quick as there were plenty of tables. It took a while for the waiter to come to our table. He was courteous. Bread came without any bread plates. The wife used her napkin. I waited to get the waiters attention and asked for bread plates. They came quickly enough. Shortly there after, we ordered our meals. I ordered the surf and turf special. The wife ordered clams on the half shell for her meal. The food arrived an hour and twenty minutes after we were seated. Ridiculous. The food was good but not worth that long of wait. We won't go back.

Good food, miserable experience. Decided to check out the Ice House on a sunny afternoon for dinner. Opted for the outside dining. BIG mistake! The outdoor area is a common space where some of the finer residents from the adjacent public housing project choose to mingle. Lovely! To add to the ambiance there is the smell of boat exhaust from the nearby boat launch and all the associated noise of outboard engines. Never again.

Will start with what makes the Ice House enjoyable, the view and outdoor seating. The food is okay, if it were not for the view I don't think it would survive because there are much better restaurant choices. A person in our party ordered the pork tenderloin which looked unappetizing, was overcooked, and expensive for the portion provided. The tenderloin was sent back and a burger was ordered to replace it. Beware of substituting for the truffle fries for the French fries it is a $4 up charge, even though it is clearly indicated on the menu.

Went with my sister for lunch today and we were quite disappointed. We had a very friendly waitress but she seemed to forget many things. For instance, my sister ordered a Reuben sandwich but was not asked if she wanted it toasted or not (she did not) and she received it toasted, then she had ordered as a side dish, potato salad but she got pasta salad instead, when she got the potato salad the potatoes were cut into large pieces & my sister had to recut them so she could fit them into her mouth. then her coffee was returned because it was luke warm. ( the waitress admitted the coffee was not kept on warm). Then I had to ask 3x for ketchup. All in all a very disappointing lunch!

Went there two times and it was great food and a great atmosphere! The bartender was great- she was talkative and attentive. The appetizers are to die for! If you want to sit outside, you're going to have to wait. However, you can grab a drink inside at the bar. Great place!

We came for a birthday celebration and checked out the reviews first. With apprehension we went anyway. We called ahead to see if it would be an issue bringing a large party for outdoor seating. They said they don't take reservations for the patio but would reserve a spot for us indoors. We arrived and found there was plenty of room and they had already set up a large table for us with umbrellas outside. As we dined and the sun proved too hot for us the waiter was kind enough to find another umbrella and add it on the end of our table. We started with a sampling of beers (no liquor yet) and a bevy of appetizers. Nice on tap selection. Appetizers were calamari, edamame, artichoke dip, and a few other plates. All very good. The menu I have to say was a bit oddly mixed and the tastes of all the food didn't exactly go together. We had a real taste of the menu as their were so many of us. Steak, the Poughkeepsian,Burgers, all good. We all liked our food, although I think the menu could be tweaked a bit. All in all, we had a great waiter, good food, good drink and lots of space with a great view of the river. I read in other reviews about the picnics going on in the space around the restaurant that implied you would dine in public housing but I didn't experience that. There is a large patio for the restaurant, and the park is clearly separated. I didn't find any interference from anyone. Nice place. I look forward to going back.

The food was decent but the service was horrible. Our waitress didn't come for 30 minutes--literally! Didn't apologize for the wait--very dry personality. Ordered the wine flight and was not told what wine was which. The shrimp cocktail was small (4) for $14. Mac and cheese a little on the watery side. It's a shame really. They have a nice location. It took 2 hours from start to finish. Recommendation to the owner--get a better more friendly, professional wait staff for the prices you charge. I won't be back.

Nice location but the food wasn't good. There were alot of servers bringing food and retrieving finished plates but it does take a while to get you food. I had a shrimp and arugala salad and the shrimp was the only thing that had flavor. It had a chipotle sauce. And there were manderin oranges - no flavor for $14.00 My husband had a fried oyster sandwich and asked for a salad but got fries. The water/ soda has a clorinated flavor to it. I asked for a non alcohol daiqiri and they said they had no liquor license but they serve beer and wine. My husband ordered a blondie something for desert. Oh my it was sooooooooooooo sweet and nasty you would have been better off with a desert from shop rite. Definitely not culinary cooking. A waste of $84.00 Next time I'll pick up something and sit in the park right at the same location.

Let me tell you the reason the food is under cooked and it takes so long to get starts right at the top! Very bad tasting muscles and the oysters not even cooked all the way and to top it off they have potential waitresses come in to train and this one girl was telling us the owner was so cheap he didn't pay her for working the whole day because it was "training" now I think if you work you get paid even if you don't get the job and ill never go back for that reason not even because of the food!

After a fabulouse Hudson Valley day complete with a visit to Hyde Park and FDR's home and museum, Millbrook vineyards and a walk on the Walkway-over-the-Hudson then we dined outside at the Ice House. It is literally in the shadow of the Walkway. Perfect place to dine on a warm early fall evening. Attentive wait staff, Jenny, readily took our orders and delivered our drinks as we sat right along the Hudson watching the boats and the sunset. The fried calamari was exceptional, the brusselsprouts with beef and cranberries was interesting and the main course of lobster, shrimp mac and cheese was decadent and plentiful. The server readily made adjustments as requested and a lovely evening was enjoyed.

Great location, ambiance and service... But not impressed by the food.. Halibut special had zero flavor and the filet was ordered medium and it came out well done. At $26 and $28 each plate we expected much more.. We opted for the $4 salads to start which were good but honestly should just be included with the meal..

First the good. Food was good; nice presentation and well prepared. Venue is splendid location and tastefully done. Now the bad.... First, where's the manager or owner?? Such a new young place, it should be managed if it is to make it in this difficult competitive economy. We were sat right away, no less than 15 minutes went by till I approached a waitress to see when we would be attended. I noted tables that were sat later than us attended first??? Really! Also I notice no runners, busboys or support staff. Though I understand fancier restaurants doing this, they have experienced wait staff that can handle load. This place does not! All very nice but all that night had NO experience. As they bought food out they walked around tables asking if this is what they ordered. At one instance when they came to our table with plates in hand we still had menus in front of us as we were never attended. The waitress was very very nice, definitely tried to make up for no one seeing 4 people unattended. But unfortunately it's a bad first impression. Even after reading earlier review complaining of same we still wanted to give it a try. In the end the Ice House is a quick lunch place or early dinner. Not fancy, limited wine list, plastic water glasses that you have to request and was told that there is a children's menu, just not on menu??? On a last note, it's not a good idea for the hostess to clean tables while customers are eating & she's spraying pledge aerosol next to you.... And please get a manager that's in restaurant area & not hanging out in bar area to make sure of quality assurance. Good luck!

Four of us went for lunch this saturday. The lobster Mac and cheese is amazing! We shared it as an appetizer. Very cheesy, yum. The wings were just ok. 8 smallish wings for $10. Wait staff was great, very helpful, gave a taste of the soup of the day and subbed reg potato salad for their seasonal German one. The sandwiches were big and delist. Recommend: the poughkeepsian and the tuna melt. Will go back for dinner

Pros: Food portion sizes were average Attentive waitstaff Cons: Way too loud Crowded Booths barely fit 4 people uncomfortably View of Hudson River was less than scenic Price wasn't worth the food A member of my party threw up from food poisoning that she presumably got from the seafood she had Skip this place and go to one of the many other restaurants on the Hudson that won't make you get sick later on at night...

I love the steamed clams as an appetizer and so far I've had the pasta dish twice because it was so good. The restaurant is beautiful and the staff is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend this place and will be going back soon.

I am reviewing Ice House again because I made a 2nd trip there for lunch with my Grandma late last week. I was concerned because the place was MOBBED with what I assume were holiday luncheons. However, everything was once again great! We shared a cup of vegetarian chili which was delicious and nice and hot on a chilly day (you like what I did there, right? chili and chilly?) Grandma ordered a fillet tip salad and I ordered a steak sandwhich and both were great. I was impressed by how well they were still managing with such a big crowd! Grandma liked it so much that she bought a gift card to give as a Christmas gift. By the way, the owner/manager was there again. Go Icehouse! I am really hoping they keep things going. I think it would be great if they put tables out on the patio where I could have wine and apps with a group in the nice weather.

First visit to the newly opened Ice House. Friends and I met there après golf. We were there for drinks & appetizers. The atmosphere was urbane, the setting, unsurpassable, directly on the river. In October the trees were spectacularly colorful. The staff was friendly & accommodating. I will definitely return for dinner. The downside is that only beer & wine is currently available. And, Stella is not on tap.

if you know what good food is DO NOT EAT HERE! i don't know who their buyer is but they have no idea what they are doing, everything we ordered was substandard and bland. the waitstaff was attentive but who cares if they are great about hastening your disappointment. i think they seriously need to consider new management at the least.

Have eaten here several times and have left a happy and full camper...food has always been excellent, service the same with the exception of one busy summer evening. The patio was crowded, we ate inside...our waitress had tables in both places and let's just say that she spent most of her time outside. This still didn't prevent us from returning. However, what happened on our latest visit just might. Hubby & I both ordered a pasta dish...first I found a hair in mine. If that's not bad enough, he found a hair in his. We were discreet about it as we told the waitress. The manager came over and new dishes were made immediately...however, nothing was offered as a result, which to me, is not the best way to run an establishment. Even though the manager asked if we needed anything...he still charged the $2.50 for the iced tea. Hair aside, this left a bad taste in my mouth and I think the Ice House has seen the last of us. We'll just go to the park to see the beautiful views.

My husband and I went here for dinner this past winter and were very much looking forward to trying this new place, especially given its location. The owners did a decent job of using the unique space and now that the weather is warmer, sitting outside on the patio along the water would be wonderful. However, despite the nice location, the menu is a major disappointment and the food itself is simply not good. Finding nothing inspiring on the menu to try, I ordered a comfort food staple- macaroni and cheese. It was bland, pasty and the seafood included in it was sparse, which actually turns out to be a good thing since it was chewy and flavorless. The service was decent, although our waitress was a little green. She could have used some training- at one point bringing me the wrong drink order. Nonetheless she was nice- just not a great waitress. I won't be going back for dinner or any meal for that matter. Perhaps I'd go back for a drink on the patio until this place gives way to a better head chef- or owner.

Nice location. Friendly waiter, but not too attentive. Seafood Bisque was not good. It was made from that imitation crab meat. Wife's duck came cold and undercooked. My meal seemed to be made with nacho cheese sauce. Will not go back.

I met friends for lunch her during the week. It was a beautiful day. The restaurant was busy both inside and out. We will be will be back with no hesitation.

I really enjoy each visit to the Ice House. Friendly staff, good food and a nice beer selection. No liquor license, but the beer and wine choices satisfy my thirst. Nice views of the Hudson, and both the Mid Hudson and Walkway bridges. Enjoy lunch here often.

I'd say the only thing this place has going for itself is the location/ambiance. The food is okay but the service leaves a lot to be desired!

The Ice House was an interesting place- the location is fantastic and the service was really great but I would say the food was just ok. The restaurant is located right on the Hudson- so close we could hear the broken ice chunks hitting each other as they floated by- which is fantastic. The patio in the summer must be really great. The service was was also very good- our waiter was very friendly and made great suggestions. But then the food was just ok- it wasn't bad- it just didn't meet my expectations which were formed by the prices and the setting. I would say it was Diner quality food- again not bad just not worth the price? Something like that. I would go again in the summer just to sit on the patio, have a glass of wine and some appetizers.

Food is mediocre. Good try to go local with some of the stuff. Atmosphere, eh. Seats are uncomfortable. It's very loud. Generically decorated. Waitress, good. Attentive. Wine/water glasses - SO DIRTY. Like, just ripped out of the dishwasher and left to dry. No effort there. Obviously, amazing views. Nothing else like it in Poughkeepsie. Screw Shadows. However, the little long blond haired hostess is a know-nothing. Walked in on a Saturday night and she literally just stood there an stared at my friend and me for a good 10 seconds before she blurted out, "Two?". Well duh, there's just 2 people standing here. We then confirmed, and she took another 10 seconds to look at the "reservation" list. Come on, this place isn't worthy of reservations. Its so middle of the road. Anyway, she looked panicked. She then had the "worst customer service line of the year" line - "Uhm, it's 6:30 now. We have another table scheduled for 7:30. Will it take you an hour to eat?" ARE YOU FLIPPIN' SERIOUS. I just wanted to throttle her. But I didn't want to get arrested. So I suggested to her she gives us the open table and that another table will most likely open up soon. I think she had caught onto my facetious manner and promptly walked us 2 feet by a table right next to the door - seriously, lose the table and not tick off people who might come back otherwise. My friend and I were done in just under an hour. We were temped to order coffee and dessert and sit and chat for as long our hearts desired, but neigh, we were full. On a serious note, kick the hostess. It's just appallingly terrible customer service to give someone a time restriction on a table. I've been a waitress/hostess/shift manager and your main goal should be making those people come back again. So turned off. Also, have an actual dress code for your servers. They looked a mess.

The food never cometh. Waited almost 2 hours for our food. We kept being told it would be right out. Eventually they told us they were short staffed in the kitchen. The place was half empty. We left before the food ever came. I suggest you avoid at all costs!

The Ice House location is beautiful, they did a fabulous job renovating and decorating. Have to say they need to continue with their plan..the food not so great. The service was friendly but clueless and sporadic. If the food is good service is not such an important element, but when both food and service are eh that makes for a bad combo. I think we will wait a few months and try again in hopes that the kitchen will find a comfortable path for themselves. Ive read the other reviews on here maybe we just ordered the wrong things!

I've eaten at Ice House several times. It has a nice atmosphere with a great location. Some lunches did not go smoothly and we waited a long time to be served and the food was just ok. Today's lunch was the best one yet and the salmon sandwich was very good and a great value. The waitress was sweet and very attentive. Things are definitely looking up. It's going to be terrific in nice weather since they have a great deck right on the water! Next visit will be dinner!

Good atmosphere, quaint, classy place. Good views. Music technical difficulties. Service al little lagging but friendly none the less. I had the rosemary calamari it's was alright. Not cooked enough, but the chipotle aioli was off the charts. My two other friends got the chili and a burger which looked alright but they said it was excellent. It might just be the next "summer thing" for poughkeepsie. Loved it will be back.

Love the Icehouse. The place is beautiful, the food has always been very, very good. Being located in the park, they have a different feel then the upscale, fancy places. One of the best things for me is that on the outside patio you can bring your dog! They are wonderful about bringing them water and treats. ( only have brought him during lunch). Being so close to the walkway(once the elevator is finished) we can walk then go for lunch every weekend!
